[0:42]welcome to our first lesson um for this year regarding the biography
[0:49]of rasulallah for some of you you were with us last year
[0:56]and others weren't so i'll give you a brief description of the
[1:02]class before we start with today's lesson this class started about two
[1:09]years ago and we shed light on multiple parts of rasulullah's life
[1:15]we started with mentioning the uh forefathers of rasulullah uh we mentioned
[1:25]and the incident of the elephant because that incident took place as
[1:32]you know when rasulullah was born on the same year of his
[1:36]birth and we also mentioned abdullah his uncle's wife finally we got
[1:52]to the prophet himself we mentioned his blessed birth what events took
[1:58]place when he was born and then we shed light on his
[2:04]childhood what happened when he was a child and what happened what
[2:08]are some vital events that took place up until he reached 40
[2:12]years of age then finally we mentioned uh important events that took
[2:18]place when he began propagating the message we mentioned that after jabra
[2:26]islam descended upon him and gave him the green light to start
[2:29]propagating the message of islam for three years rasulallah was calling people
[2:36]to islam in secrecy so there was a secret da'wah he was
[2:43]calling people to allah's path to islam secretly three years later meaning
[2:48]when he was 43 years old he was commanded by allah to
[2:54]publicly declare himself a prophet of god and so he did so
[3:01]and he faced many challenges we shed light on some of the
[3:03]challenges that he faced and we got to the migration of rasulallah
[3:10]we mentioned last year how he migrated from mecca to medina and
[3:17]how imam ali alaihissalam played a vital role in rasulullah's migration as
[3:24]he slapped on the prophet's mattress so that the polytheists who were
[3:29]intending on killing rasulallah believe that the person on rasulullah's mattress is
[3:38]none other than rasulullah himself meanwhile as imam ali was on the
[3:42]mattress of rasulullah rasulullah was migrating towards medina at first he went
[3:50]to a mountain called the mountain of taur and he went to
[3:54]that cave and remained there for three days then he continued his
[4:00]journey towards medina as usual played a vital role in uh in
[4:09]in this issue just as he plays vital roles in all of
[4:12]rasulullah's had multiple tasks to perform some of which were to return
[4:29]the trusts that people had entrusted rasulullah with as some of you
[4:33]may know rasulallah was known during the days of jahiliyyah to be
[4:42]assad meaning the truthful and the trustworthy so even after he began
[4:57]propagating the message of islam the polytheists would leave their belongings important
[5:04]belongings with rasulallah they would entrust him with those precious items of
[5:10]theirs hence when he departed to medina he told imam ali alaihissalam
[5:19]to return all of these trusts to their rightful owners and the
[5:22]imam did so this was one of the important tasks when rasulullah
[5:28]migrated again this was mentioned last year in one of our last
[5:35]lessons a second task which was which was more important than the
[5:40]first task carried by imam ali salam was to bring al-fawatim to
[5:45]rasulallah imam himself had a migration he was supposed to follow his
[5:53]prophet and cousin muhammad sallallahu alaihi but the prophet told him to
[5:59]bring the falatim with him to bring fatimatazara with him who were
[6:03]the falwatham the more three or four fatimas the first one was
[6:10]the lady of light fatima second one was fatima binit assad imam
[6:19]ali's mother the third was fatima bintas zubair not zubair the man
[6:24]who fights imam ali in in in jamal or in better terms
[6:29]the man who brings an army so they may fight imam alayhi
[6:31]salaam in basra in jaman no we're talking about zubair the son
[6:36]of abdul muttali meaning the uncle of rasulallah and uh so fatima
[6:42]binta zubair was the third fatimah and some historians say that he
[6:48]was also with fatima bintamza he was responsible of bringing fatima bened
[6:54]hamza to rasulullah so the imam ali salam migrated with the forward
[7:00]and a few muslims a number of weak muslims joined imam ali
[7:10]alayhi in that migration some of them were ayman the son of
[7:14]um iman who is martyred later on in the battle of hunain
[7:18]and his mother um was one of the sincere muslim ladies now
[7:27]what's interesting is when they migrate whenever they stall whenever they settle
[7:34]at a particular location they begin mentioning allah non-stop they mention allah
[7:44]in all of their states whether they're standing sitting down or lying
[7:48]down on their sides and they think about allah's creations hence we
[7:57]have multiple verses in surat al-imran that praise imam ali salaam and
[8:07]the we're go we're going to shed light on these verses but
[8:12]before we do keep the following point in mind which is these
[8:17]verses descended in praise of imam ali and so these verses as
[8:26]we shall see have general meanings as in they relate to any
[8:34]human being who has the traits that allah mentions but primarily initially
[8:38]when these verses came down they came down in praise of who
[8:43]of imam ali and the salaam allahi this was mentioned last year
[8:51]this was our last lesson um last year we mentioned this this
[8:55]issue the issue of the migration and today inshallah we're going to
[9:01]shed light on uh one or two verses amongst these verses in
[9:08]surat al-imran and we're going to see what we can understand from
[9:12]these beautiful verses inshallah one might say of course that what does
[9:18]this have to do with rasulallah's biography this is a class regarding
[9:24]the prophet's biography so why are we dissecting verses from the holy
[9:29]quran the answer is in reality you cannot separate the holy quran
[9:39]ultimately he was the walking talking living quran and he is the
[9:45]prophet on whom the quran descended hence when we um read any
[9:52]particular verse in the quran we can make a connection with rasulallah
[9:55]in rasulallah's life every verse in the quran is connected to his
[10:02]life in one way or another hence there is no contradiction in
[10:08]uh shedding light on quranic verses when we're studying the biography of
[10:16]rasulallah the verses we are speaking about are some of the last
[10:26]verses in surat al-imran and specifically they are verses 190 to 195
[10:36]190 to 195.
[10:39]if you want to open the quran or to open a particular
[10:43]app which has the quran in it you can um open surat
[10:49]ali imran and go to verse 190 so we can read the
[10:53]verse together insha allah just opening my 90 190 just opening the
[11:12]file here leave he says surely in the creation of the heavens
[12:07]and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day
[12:13]there are signs for men who understand there are signs for men
[12:18]who understand bear in mind when allah says heavens when the translation
[12:23]actually says heavens here it means skies we're not talking about the
[12:27]heaven which will be the abode of the believers um after they
[12:31]get judged on the day of judgement rather we're talking about the
[12:35]skies now we must understand one point when we read the holy
[12:44]quran when we read the holy quran every verse in the quran
[12:48]has at least one stop or multiple stops in it as in
[12:53]a person should stop at a particular part or several particular parts
[13:01]in the quranic verse so he may ponder upon what allah is
[13:07]saying if you want to maximize your benefit from the holy quran
[13:10]this is uh this must be applied so here we're going to
[13:17]stop in this verse in at least three parts the first part
[13:20]in which we're going to stop is the word says he says
[13:31]the word means what has two meanings and both of these meanings
[13:39]are can be used in this verse as in the verse might
[13:45]be referring to both meanings the first meaning of hulk is creating
[13:51]is the act of creating so when he says it's as if
[14:03]he's saying surely in the in in creating the skies and the
[14:10]earth there lies signs for those who understand what does that imply
[14:18]it implies that since allah created everything in the skies and created
[14:27]everything in the earth this action itself the act of of of
[14:34]creating meaning bringing something from non-existence into existence this act itself holds
[14:42]signs for those who understand what's one sign that that it holds
[14:51]one sign is that there is a creator for if you have
[14:56]something which did not exist then it got moved from non-existence into
[15:03]existence that means someone some being out there who did not need
[15:09]to be created brought into existence so the first meaning of is
[15:16]the act of creating the second meaning of meaning creation so in
[15:28]this case if we refer to the second meaning the verse would
[15:31]be saying surely within the creations that lie in the skies and
[15:40]the creations that lie in the earth there are signs for those
[15:47]who understand there are signs for those who understand any questions on
[15:54]the word hulk before we move on no questions okay then allah
[16:17]says here we have to stop as well where we have to
[16:20]stop on the word what is the meaning of also has two
[16:27]meanings the first meaning of is difference so when he says he's
[16:39]referring to the differences that lie within daytime and night time ultimately
[16:49]days and nights have similarities but they also have differences so allah
[16:54]based on the first meaning is shedding light on the differences that
[17:03]that exists between day and night and he's telling you that if
[17:10]you look at these differences you will see marvelous signs for example
[17:15]let us think for a minute in order to see one clear
[17:23]difference one clear yet marvelous difference between daytime and nighttime when it's
[17:30]day when it's person feels energized correct and he carries out his
[17:36]daily activities such as working studying and other activities whereas at night
[17:44]a person returns home usually and rusts and sleeps at least part
[17:51]of the night obviously you might say there are people who sleep
[17:55]during the day and wake up during the night which is correct
[17:59]but ultimately we weren't created to do that as in allah wanted
[18:06]us to carry out our daily affairs during the day and to
[18:11]use the night so we may re-energize ourselves so we may rest
[18:16]and sleep at least during part of the night yes the believer
[18:21]the believer uses part of the night to sleep and part of
[18:26]the night to do what to get closer to allah we have
[18:32]quranic verses and traditions emphasizing on this matter on what on using
[18:40]the night to worship allah and to strengthen our relationship with him
[18:47]using the night is essential why because at night people are asleep
[18:55]and all the distractions that might uh pull you away from worship
[19:03]fade away correct in fact at night you're able to concentrate more
[19:10]on your worship or on your quranic recitation or on your supplication
[19:14]etc so making use of that of of of the night to
[19:21]get closer to allah he says and you can find the tradition
[19:32]in the book what is he saying he's saying that in order
[19:59]to reach allah one must undergo a journey one must go through
[20:06]a journey now when you go through a journey when you travel
[20:10]from point a to point b usually you travel on some sort
[20:16]of means of transportation such as a car or a train or
[20:22]an airplane etc during the days of salaam people would travel on
[20:33]donkeys mules camels horses etc imam is saying if you want to
[20:36]reach allah subhanahu wa then you must go through a journey you
[20:41]must travel and your means of transportation during that travel will be
[20:46]the night meaning you must make use of part of the night
[20:52]even if even if it's 15 minutes or 20 minutes or an
[20:58]hour part of the night to strengthen your relationship with allah bear
[21:05]in mind that reaching allah means getting closer to him spiritually because
[21:11]you can't reach allah physically since he's not physical you cannot reach
[21:16]allah physically because he's not bound to any time or space he's
[21:20]the creator of time and space um thus he cannot be reached
[21:24]physically he he himself is not physical the speaking about what he's
[21:32]speaking about uh getting closer to allah spiritually if you want to
[21:39]reach higher levels of perfection if you want to cleanse your soul
[21:46]from vices if you want allah to be more pleased with you
[21:48]then definitely you must use part of the night of allah at
[21:55]that time yes um what do you mean by that do you
[22:00]mean like you have to pray to him or thank him or
[22:01]what do you mean by that yes when we say that you
[22:07]must use parts of the night to get closer to allah we
[22:10]mean use part of the night to worship allah azzawajal by either
[22:15]praying by for example doing salat and or reciting quran or reciting
[22:20]supplications or doing some sort of worship that leads you closer to
[22:27]him subhanallah such as reflecting thinking about allah's verses or about allah's
[22:34]creations or about heaven and hell that uh is the best type
[22:38]of worship to actually think and reflect upon the issues we mentioned
[22:48]is that clear habibi yes you have other questions so we said
[23:03]going back to the verse the first meaning of what is difference
[23:12]now if we understand this point if we understand that people carry
[23:18]out their daily activities during the day and usually they rest and
[23:25]sleep at night we're going to realize the following point which is
[23:32]allah understands our needs and he understands that we need daytime just
[23:39]as we need night time when he provides us with both day
[23:45]and night allah is showing us that he does not forget his
[23:53]creations that he covers he makes sure to cover their needs to
[24:02]fulfill their needs so by creating the day and the night allah
[24:08]subhanahu wa'ta'ala is kind of reminding me of you that he never
[24:13]forgot us which will remind us not to forget him it's as
[24:18]if he's telling you through the creation of the day and the
[24:21]night i have not forgotten you and the proof behind that is
[24:28]i've i made sure to create both times knowing that you o
[24:32]humans are in need of both days and nights so make sure
[24:37]not to forget me also it's as if he's telling you if
[24:44]i the merciful allah the kind allah do not forget you and
[24:46]make sure to create daytime and nighttime for your sake do you
[24:51]think i will forget you on the day of judgment if you
[24:55]obey me in this world obviously he won't subhan so there are
[25:03]lies there there is a sign that lies uh within the difference
[25:08]that exists between daytime and night time the difference between day and
[25:17]night the second meaning of ichthyolaf is alteration meaning days con the
[25:25]day comes after the night and the night comes after the day
[25:32]right every day is uh divided into two parts so after tonight's
[25:36]night we're going to have a day after tomorrow's day we're going
[25:41]to have a night etc that itself that phenomenon itself is also
[25:47]a sign of god subhanahu wa sa in the creation of the
[26:05]heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the
[26:10]day there are signs for men who understand what is the meaning
[26:17]of al-bab does anyone know what is the meaning of al-baba [Music]
[26:36]right and and the uh singular word for al-bab is and the
[26:44]al-bab means uh the intellects so allah is saying that there are
[26:53]signs that lie within the creations there are signs that lie within
[27:01]the skies and the earth or the creating of the skies and
[27:05]the earth and in the alternation of the day and night for
[27:09]those who have intellects meaning for those who make use of their
[27:15]intellects and actually ponder upon these issues if we understand the verse
[27:27]correctly we'll understand that allah wants us to think about these creations
[27:33]of his when we read this verse allah wants us to ponder
[27:37]upon uh some segments of this universe hence we have a tradition
[27:49]by rasulullah which confirms this this issue you can find the tradition
[27:58]in bayan he says the following he says so he says there
[28:19]is a known tradition a tradition that the scholars know that says
[28:24]when these verses the verses that were dissecting found in surat ali
[28:29]when these verses descended rasulullah said woe unto he who recites these
[28:37]verses but does not think about its meanings which means we should
[28:43]take a pause when we read these verses and actually ponder upon
[28:48]allah's words in fact whenever you read the quran you should do
[28:53]some pondering you should do some thinking about what you're reading but
[28:55]especially when you're reading these verses what's beautiful about this verse is
[29:08]that allah subhanahu wa is telling you you may look at any
[29:13]segment in this universe any segment and you'll find marvelous signs signs
[29:20]pointing to what signs indicating what signs pointing to allah's existence and
[29:29]to allah's attributes such as his knowledge wisdom power mercy kindness generosity
[29:37]etc he tells you look at any segment whether you look at
[29:45]for example the bee or the ant or the spider or the
[29:53]bat or the lion or you look at celestial bodies such as
[29:57]asteroids planets um stars black holes etc whatever you may look at
[30:08]you will find marvelous signs leading you back to who to allah
[30:13]hence lessons on tawhid on allah's existence and unity touched upon different
[30:28]segments in this universe he spoke about the animal kingdom he spoke
[30:34]about the skies and the earth he spoke about the human body
[30:38]and so on believe it or not emphasized a lot on these
[30:58]verses for example we have traditions telling us that when a person
[31:03]wakes up to pray salat allah he should recite these verses the
[31:10]verses of surah al-imran verse 192 190 to 195 or at least
[31:18]some of these verses in fact we have a tradition by ibm
[31:24]confirming that he used to recite these verses three times every night
[31:33]three times nightly let me share my screen with you so we
[31:37]may read the tradition together insha allah uh can you see my
[32:12]screen yes yes just give me one second button not sure why
[32:48]their writing is not showing properly let me change the font maybe
[32:56]it will make a difference actually let me i'll just paste it
[33:09]on notepad okay so the tradition is a book that was to
[34:35]um explain the fikahi the jurisprudential traditions of which seem to contradict
[34:43]we have plenty of jurisdictional traditions speaking about for example prayer marriage
[34:50]divorce etc and some seem to contradict each other so may allah
[34:56]greatly reward him for this effort he wrote in order to show
[35:05]that there was there wasn't a contradiction in order to basically explain
[35:10]how one can accept uh two traditions that seem to be contradicting
[35:17]on a particular jurisprudential issue nonetheless in it he mentions the tradition
[35:21]going back to imam assad says you shall see that he's talking
[35:42]about his worship at night how would the prophet worship allah at
[35:49]night so the tradition says uh water would be brought to him
[36:15]obviously in some sort of cup or container and the the copper
[36:22]container would be covered and the prophet would place his toothbrush the
[36:28]old day toothbrush called miswak he would place it under his mattress
[36:35]then he would sleep up until a particular time when he would
[36:49]wake up he would sit down and he would look at different
[36:53]parts of the sky how would he know how do we know
[36:57]that he would look at different parts of the sky because the
[37:00]hadith says which means he was looking here and there and over
[37:07]there etc then he would recite the verses found in surat al-imran
[37:18]the verses that were studying are your screen is green um nothing
[37:26]it was just green for a couple seconds okay can you see
[37:34]it now yes yes okay he would recite the verses so the
[37:47]imam islam recited the it means that either the imam or the
[37:55]narrator did not continue to recite all of the verses but he
[38:01]was he mentioned the first part so that we know which verses
[38:07]he is speaking about then it says brush his teeth using the
[38:31]all-day toothbrush that miss and he would perform mudu then he would
[38:34]go to his masjid and pray for rikaz now what is meant
[38:41]by message it here the word masjid might be referring to the
[38:44]prophet's mosque in medina and it might be referring to a specific
[38:50]spot in which rasulullah would pray a spot in his own house
[38:56]i believe you know that rasulallah's house was inside his mosque and
[39:05]there was a door um from which rasulullah would would go from
[39:11]his house to the to the prophetic mosque but his house itself
[39:18]was inside the mosque the same applied to imam ali salaam the
[39:21]house of aryan fatima was inside the mosque of rasulallah and they
[39:25]had a door through which they were able to go to the
[39:30]mosque of rasulallah as for the uh companions of rasulullah some of
[39:37]them lived around the mosque but none of them lived inside the
[39:41]mosque yes traditions say that the companions had doors that their houses
[39:51]were connected to the mosque of rasulullah and there were doors uh
[39:56]that would lead them into the mosque of rasulallah however allah commanded
[40:04]rasulallah to shut all of those doors to shut all the doors
[40:07]leading to the mosque of the prophet except for two doors the
[40:13]door of rasulullah in the door of imam ali inshallah very soon
[40:20]we'll be analyzing this important incident called said so when the hadith
[40:27]says he would go and pray for erikaz in his messages possibly
[40:32]it's referring to the prophetic mosque and possibly no it's referring to
[40:42]um to a specific spot in his own house where he would
[40:45]pray obviously he would free forward us and the imam says when
[40:50]he would go into the quran he would bow down for god
[40:55]he would remain in ruku just as long as he would remain
[41:00]when he would be standing up reciting quran so the length of
[41:05]his was equal to the length of his when he's standing up
[41:12]and reciting quran in salah then he says he says that when
[41:19]he would prostrate he would the length of his prostration would be
[41:24]equal to the length of his you would bow down and would
[41:39]prolong his to the point people would say when will he lift
[41:43]his head yes and he would prostrate and would prolong his prostration
[41:50]to the point people would say when will he lift his head
[41:56]realize here the prophet uh the imam is talking about rasulallah's individual
[41:59]worship he's not talking about how he would pray yamaha with people
[42:04]when he would lead people in prayer rasulullah salallahu salaam would shorten
[42:10]his prayer but when he would pray alone he would prolong his
[42:15]prayer he would go to his mattress and would sleep up until
[42:26]a particular time then he would wake up again a second time
[42:35]and he would sit down and recite the verses of subhanallah so
[42:41]he would recite these verses two times at night let's continue the
[42:48]tradition he says he would recite the verses as he's looking at
[42:53]the sky at different parts of the sky then he would brush
[43:05]his teeth again he would perform again and he would go to
[43:11]the masjid and pray four new records he would pray them in
[43:22]the exact same manner he prayed the first four elects what are
[43:26]these eight recalls rasulullah would pray nightly can anyone tell me for
[43:49]us it is highly recommended to practice but for him it was
[43:54]mandatory to pray excuse me then the imam says then he would
[44:09]go back to his mattress and he would sleep up until a
[44:14]certain time then he would wake up he would sit down again
[44:22]and he would recite the verses of ali so he recites them
[44:26]three times nightly and he would look at different parts of the
[44:34]sky then he would to m he says then he would brush
[44:40]his teeth perform udu again and he would go to his masjid
[44:45]uttar means he would pray salat al-water possibly the imam here is
[44:56]referring to salat shafa when he says he would pray to the
[45:02]cause or he is referring to nonetheless he would pray today then
[45:08]he would go out so he may pray meaning so he may
[45:13]pray the morning prayer salatin this word here supports that rasulallah would
[45:26]pray these these at night in his house because the said what
[45:34]to me would leave so he may pray which means he was
[45:38]still in his house also what supports this idea that rasulullah would
[45:49]pray these in his house is a hadith by imam assad which
[45:53]teaches us how we should pray recommended prayers the tradition says it's
[46:02]also in s when a person prays recommended prayers should he pray
[46:21]those prayers in one spot or should he pray them in multiple
