Brother Towfiq Sakhi’s talk explores the profound legacy of Ali Akbar, emphasizing his role as the ultimate reflection of the Holy Prophet’s character. He highlights the often-overlooked significance of the month of Shaaban as a time for spiritual growth and preparation for Ramadan. Through narrations and historical examples, the talk illustrates how Ali Akbar's unmatched resemblance to the Prophet extended beyond physical traits to his patience, forbearance, and unwavering commitment to justice. The importance of good manners, maintaining family ties, and responding to adversity with kindness are central themes, reinforcing that true faith is not just about rituals but about embodying the moral excellence of the Prophet and Ali Akbar.

[0:00]Salam alaykum brothers sisters and respected Scholars I begin by congratulating all
[0:06]of you on the W of Ali one of the champions of
[0:15]carala one of those who on those planes on that day of
[0:17]ashur was standing and fighting against injustices now we all know about
[0:26]the story ofala but what exactly do we know about the story
[0:30]of Ali inshallah tonight we want to look into it a little
[0:34]bit and understand how we ourselves can be like Ali of course
[0:40]we are in this special month the month of shaaban and this
[0:44]is a month that many of us tend to forget because it
[0:47]falls in between two very important months the month of rajab and
[0:50]the month of Ramadan so we have many special celebrations like the
[0:57]of that happened on on in rajab and then we have of
[1:00]course the Blessed month of Ramadan but there's a very famous saying
[1:06]of the holy prophet it's a very famous ra where he says
[1:09]shaaban is my month hence Paradise is incumbent decided for those who
[1:14]observe fasting for one day of this month so this is shows
[1:19]how important the shaaban is and we have a very famous salaat
[1:22]which is called salaat sh which is of IM imin this is
[1:29]also known as and in this he he recites it every noon
[1:35]in Shan at noon time which is at 12:00 at midday and
[1:41]he says a very small excerpt of this he says IM he
[1:53]says this is the month of the prophets and the master of
[1:59]your Messengers it is shaaban which you have encompassed with your mercy
[2:04]and your pleasure so this is a very special month and a
[2:07]month that we need to use as a preparation for ourselves as
[2:12]we enter into the month of Ramadan which is truly going to
[2:15]be a month that is very spiritual for us as well and
[2:20]because we said that this is the S the the month of
[2:25]the holy prophet we need to understand exactly how we can get
[2:27]closer to the prophet in this month because we understand that the
[2:32]holy prophet himself Allah subhana waala says in the Quran that the
[2:41]holy prophet is for you a great example an example that of
[2:48]a characteristic that you should follow so we know that the holy
[2:52]prophet himself in another verse is said oh Prophet you are truly
[2:58]of a great characteristic and we all want to be like him
[3:04]and that is why we need to look towards because there was
[3:09]no other person who resembled the holy prophet like Al there is
[3:14]no one who imitated or manifested the characteristics of the Holy prophets
[3:20]like Ali and we know on the day of IM husam he
[3:26]says in a very very famous narration which is in alusin he
[3:33]says oh Allah bear witness on these people on this for a
[3:56]youth has come forward who is the most similar to The Holy
[4:00]prophets in three characteristics in Creation in character and speech in which
[4:11]is his creation which is his manners in the in his characteristics
[4:15]and in the way that he speaks he is the most similar
[4:22]to The Holy prophets and it is said that on the day
[4:24]of Ash when it was noon time when it was at midday
[4:29]husam asked who to recite thean husam wanted to hear the voice
[4:39]of the holy prophet reciting in that final day and it said
[4:43]that when Ali when he was walking down the street in Medina
[4:46]that people would go over their roofs because their roofs were flat
[4:51]they would basically look over their roofs to get a glimpse of
[4:54]Ali because it is said that he resembled the holy prophet in
[5:00]a manner that they would remember him when they looked at Ali
[5:08]Akbar so when we know that there is someone who follows the
[5:14]holy prophet or resembles him in such a manner now of course
[5:19]we ourselves cannot in creation follow or resemble the holy prophet because
[5:24]Allah subhana wa ta'ala has a Allah subhana wa taala chooses your
[5:28]parents Allah subhah wa tala chooses where you were born and Allah
[5:31]chooses all of these other Char characteristics at the beginning of your
[5:35]life but it's important for us to note that we can make
[5:43]sure that our our which is much more important is compared to
[5:46]the holy prophet s alai we want to make sure that we
[5:51]follow him in that manner if we cannot be the 100% that
[5:56]is Al we can at least try to have enough of our
[5:58]characteristics to resemble him it is said that if you cannot drink
[6:04]the whole the ocean drink enough to satisfy your thirst it should
[6:07]be in that manner that we should follow the holy prophet and
[6:11]now we have a very important narration which exists in by Maji
[6:17]and insh tonight I want to discuss these four points that Al
[6:23]Maji brings from the narration of the Holy prophets the holy prophet
[6:26]one day he is asking the people when he's on the mimar
[6:29]he says the holy prophet says to to the people he says
[6:39]oh people shall I inform you who among you resembles me the
[6:46]most in character not in right we said not in creation because
[6:48]that is one thing that's the of Allah but in mannerisms in
[6:52]the manners who is it that resembles me the most and the
[6:58]is trying to teach them through a question like like Allah subhana
[7:02]wa ta'ala asks in the Quran he asked the question for people
[7:07]to reflect upon it the people they say ohas tell us who
[7:14]is it that out of us who resembles you the most in
[7:18]character the holy prophet he says the first one which is very
[7:22]important he says he says those who are the best of you
[7:30]in good manners so it is not the prayers or the Hajj
[7:34]that make us resemble the holy prophet of course these are our
[7:39]duties this these are the things that we need to follow to
[7:42]be Muslim we need to follow to be good followers of Allah
[7:46]subhana wa tala but if we want to resemble the prophets he
[7:49]says first of all we need to have good manners those who
[7:55]are the best in your characters and this is why we said
[8:01]the holy Prophet himself the holy prophet himself was an amazing character
[8:07]he himself was a beautiful character within himself and it's that character
[8:14]that attracted people to him in the Advent of Islam before Islam
[8:17]was announced to the people of the quray the people they loved
[8:23]the holy prophet because he was what he was it was this
[8:27]great characteristics and these morals that brought people to the prophet and
[8:30]this is how they fell in love with him to a point
[8:34]where the holy prophet himself he would say if I were to
[8:35]tell you that there is an army behind this mountain would you
[8:40]believe me the people said B of course we would believe you
[8:45]and then he went to tell them about Islam and he went
[8:47]to tell them about Allah subhana wa ta'ala and even after that
[8:52]when people were attacking him the holy prophet would respond only in
[8:56]the best manner so this is that characteristic of the holy prophet
[8:59]that attracted people to Islam because when people they hear about Islam
[9:04]first of all it's not about F Salah it's not about it's
[9:11]not about Haj that attracts people to Islam what is it the
[9:14]characteristics of those who are adherence of that religion that is how
[9:18]people get attracted to a religion when they physically see how it
[9:25]manifests in the characteristics of those Believers so that is the first
[9:29]out of the four he says he says those who are the
[9:39]great greatest of you in manners second of all he says the
[9:45]holy prophet he says those who are the greatest in patience those
[9:52]who are the greatest in clemency and forbearance now this is a
[9:56]word that we use not too much in our daily life so
[9:57]I'll explain forbearance and clemency is when someone responds to you in
[10:05]a manner that is not the best manner in a very rude
[10:07]manner in a disrespectful manner how is it that we as Muslims
[10:14]as we as Shia of the respond to those people because we
[10:17]had many times within the holy prophet's lives where his enemies would
[10:21]taunt him where they would try to laugh at him where they
[10:26]would mock him and we can see in the Holy prophet's characteristics
[10:29]that he would never respond to them and their taunts he would
[10:36]never respond in an in a bad Manner and he says and
[10:43]forbearance or this patience is a completion of your once you've reach
[10:48]reached that level of completion where your is at is at its
[10:56]peak you find that and and themselves they had times within their
[11:00]lives where people would mock them where people would laugh at them
[11:04]there was a campaign during muawiya's time to slander IM aliam to
[11:08]the point where they would not even believe that he was Muslim
[11:14]it is said that when MJ had stricken him on in the
[11:16]sh on the 19th of Ramadan in mas kuf and people heard
[11:22]about this in Damascus in sham what was the first thing they
[11:26]said praise was in s it was to a point where their
[11:36]enemies they would be fed misinformation to a point where they were
[11:40]to hate them but whenever they did so like we see in
[11:45]the story of IM bakam which I've discussed in his a few
[11:48]months ago when the man comes to him and he says you
[11:52]are Bak he says you're he he tries to use his name
[11:54]as an insult he says you are a cow Al am he
[12:01]responds in a very well manner he says that is not my
[12:05]name I am Al I am not that which is a cow
[12:09]and then he starts to slander him more and he starts to
[12:11]taunt him andam says if it's true and if if this what
[12:18]you're saying to me is true may Allah forgive you for saying
[12:20]this about me and if it's a lie may Allah forgive you
[12:26]as well for lying and slandering my name for making this toin
[12:30]towards me so this is the characteristic that made that person so
[12:36]ashamed of himself he was so embarrassed to the point where he
[12:39]went back and it is said that later on he became a
[12:44]Muslim based on IM Al bakar's actions and the Quran we have
[12:47]a very famous verse good and evil cannot be equal respond to
[13:04]evil with what is best then the one you are in a
[13:10]feud with you will become like close friends when they respond when
[13:12]they speak to you in an evil manner you should respond to
[13:16]them in a manner which is good and it is only then
[13:21]when their hatred or or their anger is removed that they can
[13:24]truly be a friend of yours salaat so we had two important
[13:41]points of the holy [Music] prophet who is it who is it
[13:49]that to me is the best who is it to me that
[13:51]resembles me in character he who is the best of you in
[13:58]manners he who is forbear who is Clement he controls his anger
[14:05]he is patient when he is tested and the third one he
[14:12]who maintains their family ties those who are close to them they
[14:19]don't cut off their ties they make sure to do to make
[14:22]sure to keep that relationship within their family in Islam itself it
[14:27]makes such a important point to the fact that it is considered
[14:34]to break a tie with your family one of the greatest sins
[14:37]someone came to the holy prophet and he said oh Prophet what
[14:43]is the worst action what is the biggest sin the holy prophet
[14:46]says it is shik then he says what is the second greatest
[14:52]sin he says breaking ties with your family and then he says
[14:55]what is the third s greatest sin and he says the third
[15:01]greatest is enjoining evil and forbidding good so he says that this
[15:07]breaking of family familial bonds is considered the second greatest sin even
[15:13]greater than enjoining evil and forbidden good so it's important for us
[15:18]to note how important that is within our own life a man
[15:21]complained to IM about his relatives theam he says swallow your anger
[15:28]and behave nicely with your relatives the man said my relatives they
[15:33]give me all sort of troubles there is hardly any cruelty they
[15:35]have not committed upon me the Imam says do you also want
[15:41]to cut off that relationship with them if you also become with
[15:44]them like them Allah subhana wa tala will never have mercy on
[15:47]you so he shows the importance of maintaining those bonds between our
[15:51]family and even when we have those Bonds in within our family
[15:57]how do we act within our own family family do we make
[16:00]sure to keep that level of love andab that exists within a
[16:08]family there's a very famous story of s and it is and
[16:13]it talks about the pressure of the Grave he says those who
[16:15]are unjust towards their family will receive They will receive the pressure
[16:22]when they are within the grave and look at the story of
[16:26]s to understand it sad was one of the close compan ions
[16:30]of the Holy prophets and he was one of the leaders of
[16:33]the sahabah and unfortunately s he was wounded severely by an arrow
[16:39]in the Battle of aab and he succumbed to those wounds he
[16:42]had passed away and it was during those times that during his
[16:45]uh burial the holy prophet would carry the different points of his
[16:51]coffin of his body so what he would move from one corner
[16:53]to another as a great show of respect towards him and it
[16:58]is said that the prophet had said that there were Angels who
[17:00]had joined within this burial Subhan Allah how beautiful is that burial
[17:04]we ourselves wish we could have something like that but listen to
[17:11]this important point when saad's mother she sees all this she's very
[17:15]happy and she congratulates her son he says oh wow you you
[17:18]have such an amazing burial the holy prophet is saying that there's
[17:23]even angels within your burial the holy prophet says to her he
[17:26]says that it is way too soon for you to speak because
[17:29]sad will likely suffer the pressure of his grave why when the
[17:35]mother asks he says because he was ill-mannered towards his family so
[17:40]it is given such an importantance level within Islam for us to
[17:45]keep our familial bonds and for us to keep that Moab and
[17:50]those manners within our own family so now we understand those three
[17:54]important points that make us to resemble the holy prophets for us
[17:57]to have good manners for us to have Helm for us to
[18:04]be able to control our anger and to and to keep our
[18:06]family bonds but what is our fourth point he says the holy
[18:15]prophet says the fourth people fourth group of people who are resembling
[18:19]me in character and the holy prophet says those who are just
[18:26]to themselves those who are fair to themselves that that they make
[18:32]sure to keep themselves accountable those who for example might be just
[18:37]might be injust to their own selves when they see other people
[18:41]they don't apply those same kind of principles upon themselves and we
[18:46]see we have a narration of one of our imams who says
[18:54]he is not from us who does not take account for his
[19:01]actions if we make sure that we keep ourselves accountable we can
[19:04]make sure that we can be that the one that the holy
[19:12]prophet has said is just to himself and it is to a
[19:18]point where in the Quran Allah subhana wa tala says Allah subhah
[19:28]waala does not cause any kind of wrongness towards people in the
[19:33]past Allah has not wronged them but what they have wronged themselves
[19:40]they have done Injustice towards their own Souls towards their own selves
[19:45]those are the ones who are considered those who are not just
[19:49]so with these four characteristics let's make sure that we keep our
[19:54]shaaban a very spiritual one a shaaban that can bring us closer
[19:58]to Allah wa tala to prepare us when we enter the month
[20:01]of Ramadan very soon because it's only 3 weeks inshallah so let's
[20:07]all use this time and remember the I said at the beginning
[20:09]the holy prophet himself has said that he who fasts one day
[20:14]he he receives the mercy of Allah subhah wa ta'ala so that
[20:18]is how important this month is inshallah we follow the Holy Holy
[20:22]prophet's characteristics in these four aspects within our good mannerisms within our
[20:28]within create keeping that family bond and being merciful towards our own
[20:32]family and making sure that we are just to our own selves
[20:37]inshallah Ya Allah we ask you to enable us to follow the
[20:42]bright path ofas Allah and Ya Allah we ask you to make
[20:46]our actions and our characteristics that of our holy prophet and Ya
[20:49]Allah we ask you to make our lives the lives of Muhammad
[20:51]and Ali Muhammad
