[0:01]foreign [Music] muhammad [Music] 65 of surat namil tell us a glimpse
[1:16]of a common practice that used to be very common in the
[1:24]time of jahili something that is very pugnacious shameful and at the
[1:33]same time brutal and criminal into which the men once they hear
[1:44]that their wives have brought children daughter babe baby daughter they will
[1:51]get puzzled they don't know what to do either they escape from
[1:58]shame and not face the community and their men friends or they
[2:07]bury the baby while alive you know the burial of the babies
[2:12]the daughters while they are alive quran is called this act this
[2:21]shameful act and denigrate them why would they do such kind of
[2:28]thing what is the reason that this horrendous practice was very you
[2:35]know common in the arabian peninsula in the jaahiliya community of course
[2:41]we know that this is a nomadic community that's filled with ignorance
[2:48]and again ignorance is not lack of knowledge rather it is a
[2:55]state of mind and emotions when i am confronted with reality with
[3:02]facts with knowledge i reject it this is considered to be ignorance
[3:07]now this society in the arabian peninsula number one was nomadic it's
[3:17]a patriarchy society all depends on raids killing attacking invading neighbors invading
[3:30]other lands and confiscating their wealth and their belonging and in bringing
[3:37]them home that was the means of income the means of income
[3:42]of the tribes was just to live out of war fighting and
[3:49]then would confiscate other tribes and of course at the same time
[3:56]they will bring their women their ladies captive to their cities since
[4:01]women are not able to bear arms and to participate in the
[4:08]battle would consider to be you know a liability not only they
[4:14]don't carry weapon and fight rather they can be compromised and taken
[4:21]away as captives and this is a big sign of humiliation and
[4:27]insult to the tribe of that woman therefore in order not to
[4:35]fall in such kind of miserable consequences they will take care of
[4:41]it themselves from the very beginning they will take the baby daughters
[4:45]and bury them alive that was the moment in the arabian peninsula
[4:53]allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala denigrates what a wicked what an evil decision is
[5:03]that in defense for the victims for those women for those children
[5:10]who lost their lives and that was a very common place it
[5:16]didn't belong to certain community or sent to members of the community
[5:22]that was very widespread in the entire arabian peninsula and quran as
[5:28]i said came to scold them to denigrate them for that when
[5:34]you look at islam by the way let me tell you the
[5:39]topic for the night the topic is the impact of education on
[5:43]woman's life so islam came to ridicule this notion of a preference
[5:58]given to men versus women there is no place of preference for
[6:06]certain group over another group when you look at the preferences in
[6:16]quran you see they are based on a few things first of
[6:20]all they are based on what you do what you have accomplished
[6:23]not what has god has given you for example race ethnicity gender
[6:31]birth place these are not a human being can determine for themselves
[6:37]i cannot determine my gender i cannot determine my ethnicity or the
[6:44]place that i was born so based on that islam or any
[6:50]rational creed would not accept would not you know judge be judge
[6:56]people based on those rather the judging was based on the performance
[7:01]on the achievements as a human being what you have achieved for
[7:09]example the ayah says preference over knowledge education allah in this verse
[7:21]negate the fact that the one who does not know the illiterate
[7:27]the one who is uneducated is an equal footing with the person
[7:35]that is educated with that is educated it cannot be so this
[7:40]is one source of a preference but that's depends on the achievement
[7:45]on the performance because that person have gone to college have studied
[7:50]has taken the hardship to educate themselves of course they have a
[7:58]preference over those that are not in another ayah allah says in
[8:09]multiple scales those that are educated knowledgeable are in multiple degrees are
[8:19]better off than those that are not not educated so this is
[8:24]one way of you know differentiating between people according to the quranic
[8:31]laws another one another caliber that quran looks at is taqwa piety
[8:43]the best among you the better off is the one who has
[8:51]piety who has fear from allah is obliged to follow god's order
[8:57]who is obedient to allah this is again another caliber based on
[9:04]that that islam and quran you know judge people and the third
[9:11]one is our deeds your performance what have you accomplished in another
[9:26]ayahuasca someone who has worked a lot has achieved a lot toward
[9:35]let's say his fellow citizens as a philanthropist to the human being
[9:42]assisting them providing for them is definitely considered to be in a
[9:50]higher status than the one who has not achieved any of those
[9:54]so what i'm trying to say is that yes quran judge people
[10:00]and tell who has a preference over who but those are only
[10:07]in regards to the performance to the achievements to what we have
[10:13]done not what we are endowed with from the beginning so a
[10:19]race according to quran doesn't play any role gender does not play
[10:24]any role whether it's a woman or a man male or female
[10:30]in front of allah subhanahu wa ta'ala they are in equal footing
[10:35]look at the ayah it says was always putting men and women
[10:53]together equal footing there is no preference for one side over the
[11:02]other side at the end it says any of those would reach
[11:14]that status of khashay of mata of saber of salah allah subhana
[11:22]wa ta'ala will reward them equally there is no difference that's why
[11:26]you see the tremendous task of the prophet peace be upon him
[11:30]in the arabian peninsula to change the mentality of this you know
[11:37]vicious group those barbaric people or the culture this culture that was
[11:45]based on a brutality on killing on you know oppressing the females
[11:53]women that much the prophet had to struggle in order to change
[12:01]the minds and the hearts of people therefore you see when he
[12:07]would receive for example his daughter fatima he would give her at
[12:12]most respect so much respect and value not because she was an
[12:18]infallible of course she wasn't infallible and his daughter but because she
[12:26]was a female a woman a perfect woman the prophet peace be
[12:29]upon him wanted to demonstrate that to his people to his community
[12:36]so they would see how he would treat you know his daughter
[12:40]while he was the head of the state was the great prophet
[12:44]of the people aisha the wife of the prophet says the prophet
[13:06]would stand up for her give her her has a place grab
[13:11]her hand and kiss her hand this is how the prophet used
[13:16]to retreat his daughter in order for the community to see and
[13:23]learn to learn how to deal with their women how to deal
[13:28]with their daughters look at the look at the star contrast between
[13:32]the two where before they used to bury those data and they
[13:38]would take them as a liability and a source of denigration and
[13:45]humiliation and here the prophet on the other side the prophet would
[13:49]give so much value to his daughter in order to change the
[13:58]attitude the impression of his community when you look at quran the
[14:04]holy quran it is same story it gives so much value and
[14:10]respect to the female characters that are mentioned in the holy quran
[14:15]there are not so many maybe there are a handful of characters
[14:20]of women have been mentioned in the holy quran maybe out of
[14:24]ten or eight only one or two and that's not directly and
[14:30]not explicitly god scolds but the rest deal with them with respect
[14:39]with value i will give you an example muhammad one of them
[14:49]is the queen of sabbah sabbah is yemen today choose to be
[14:57]called saber they had a queen the name is beltis now look
[15:05]how the almighty narrates about her talks about her she was a
[15:11]queen when the bird brought the letter of sulaiman alaihissalam to her
[15:16]and she opened the letter now she's reading the letter look at
[15:22]her kindness her nice demeanor she an honorable letter i have received
[15:37]of course she was an idol worshiper she was not a believer
[15:42]at the time but look at her mind her heart the wisdom
[15:48]that she had when she see this book immediately she realizes that
[15:53]this is is in totally different style than the rest of the
[16:01]letters this is an honorable letter this is number one second how
[16:11]does she deal with that sulaiman wrote to her that you come
[16:17]all as muslim submitting to the will of allah inviting her to
[16:21]come to palestine and to submit to the order of allah now
[16:28]someone in her status to be a king and ruthless king would
[16:34]he care about the opinion of his people he would not he
[16:40]would take it upon himself and he would say you know i
[16:45]will give the answer and i will make the decision but look
[16:50]at this wise lady you see when you compare and contrast between
[16:53]a monarch that is a lady a woman with a monarch that
[16:58]is a man and you see the difference between the two here
[17:03]this lady tells her people again coming back and tell them tell
[17:11]me i'm consulting you i am asking you marcus i build consensus
[17:21]when there is an important decision that pertains to the countries and
[17:26]especially to the country's destiny therefore i need to hear from you
[17:33]a libertarian a democratic monarch that is allowing everybody in the community
[17:40]to speak to tell their opinion this is second third look at
[17:49]her farsightedness her insight into history she knows she's an educated person
[17:58]she speaks out of experience and knowledge when they tell her don't
[18:03]worry we will fight we are mighty people we have enough power
[18:09]to stand up in front of the aggressor but look what she
[18:16]said wisely she said don't deal with the kings because if they
[18:31]attack they are ruthless without mercy they destroy everything you see today
[18:35]you see in ukraine what is happening you see in yemen in
[18:38]the same place that we are you know talking about this monarch
[18:42]that used to govern in yemen how a mindless and ruthless monarch
[18:50]have destroyed an entire country for the sake of what what benefits
[18:54]what they have gained out of the seven years war in yemen
[18:59]nothing this monarch this queen is telling the absolute truth of the
[19:10]lessons of history that do not go to war anytime you have
[19:16]a chance to settle things peacefully do it by piece do not
[19:22]get to fight look at the vision that she had eventually she
[19:27]chose the best way out of you know all choices that she
[19:36]had she chose the best she saved herself she saved her community
[19:41]she saved the lives of people and the well-being of her entire
[19:48]nation when she went to salem and declared to be muslim with
[19:56]sulaima so all those four things are vividly written and emphasized in
[20:01]the holy quran because of a monarch who happened to be a
[20:07]lady quran doesn't say those stories for us just as an entertainment
[20:12]although those stories in the quran are very beautiful and very entertaining
[20:16]but those are written for us to learn these are our lessons
[20:22]those could happen to us in our community in our countries the
[20:28]stories of the past are our lessons for the future we should
[20:34]learn from them now keep this in mind let's look at how
[20:39]allah subhanahu wa ta'ala talks about another monarch but this time is
[20:44]a man and what he has done to his community and to
[20:48]his country muhammad this time is king of egypt look at the
[21:10]arrogance how much this man was filled with arrogance and superiority sense
[21:15]of superiority i have the kingdom of egypt kingdom of egypt now
[21:29]how big is egypt if you compare egypt the size of egypt
[21:32]to yemen probably both are the same seba and yemen and egypt
[21:38]had more or less same area but look at this man out
[21:46]of arrogance and the way that he talks to his people he
[21:49]considered that this is a huge thing that only requires an exceptional
[21:56]person like himself to govern that place this is number one second
[22:02]when you talk to musa to the adversary talks out of a
[22:11]racist point of view very racist a superior he says i am
[22:21]much better than this person who has not known a dissolute a
[22:28]person with a humility a humiliated person this is how he compares
[22:35]himself to musa look at the dialogue look at how he introduces
[22:41]himself to the public that i am much better than him we
[22:45]are not in equal footing while the monarch in in she says
[22:51]the book that i received the letter that i receive is kareem
[22:57]honorable wine from suleiman look at her wisdom and her nice demeanor
[23:02]while this guy calls it that i am much better than him
[23:07]eventually then when the face-off was about to happen he took the
[23:18]decision upon himself didn't allow his people to talk didn't allow his
[23:23]people to give their opinion they were wise people in egypt that
[23:28]had prevented faraon from going to fight and confronting musa they said
[23:33]leave them leave them alone don't harass them nevertheless he didn't listen
[23:44]my your opinion is my opinion i am the one who will
[23:51]make the decision i will take your hand towards success the best
[24:00]of success is you know my road just to trust me put
[24:05]your trust in me and this is what he has done in
[24:11]another iss a tyrant a tyrant at this part denigrating his own
[24:20]people eventually what did it end up with what did faraon in
[24:25]the booth he went to hell he lost his life as well
[24:32]as his community all end up in jahannam in a matter of
[24:37]few hours why because of their arrogance because of their stupidity because
[24:45]of challenging allah subhanahu wa ta'ala while when you compare it to
[24:49]this monarch this lady who have saved herself saved her dignity respect
[24:58]and that is of her community as well and compare it with
[25:01]faraon faraon is a man and this lady is a female as
[25:07]a woman this much quran give emphasis on the status of women
[25:19]another example that allah picks from faraon's household and that is the
[25:29]wife of iran again only a handful of female characters have been
[25:36]mentioned in the holy quran one of them is the wife of
[25:39]says if you want to see the best example of a believer
[25:47]he doesn't choose rasulullah he doesn't choose prophet you know prophet isa
[25:54]he doesn't choose any of those big names of males he goes
[25:57]after wife look at the farsightedness that she had the wife of
[26:18]the king the king of the kings she had everything now you
[26:23]tell an ordinary person what do you want tell you i need
[26:28]a good mansion i need a nice car i need some money
[26:32]some cash that i can go and do some buying and shopping
[26:35]good food leisure go for vacation and that's it isn't it she
[26:41]had the best among all but she didn't choose them she said
[26:48]ned jiniman get me out of this this is a miserable thing
[26:52]she wanted something eternal she's not looking this transient time only for
[26:59]a handful of years and everything will evaporate and she ends up
[27:04]in jahannam no she's looking for something that stays with her for
[27:08]ever this is the wife of another female so when you look
[27:19]at those examples my dear you see that islam not only it
[27:25]did not denigrate the woman's status rather came to preserve it and
[27:32]to honor it and give it its best value what should we
[27:39]do today we are fourteen hundred years away from the time of
[27:42]the prophet time of ultimate is our duty you see brothers and
[27:49]sisters the solution for anyone including the woman is learning an education
[27:56]especially in such competitive you know world today although there have been
[28:03]monumental achievements for women throughout the world still they lag behind look
[28:12]at the statistics look at the illiteracy rates it is two to
[28:19]three in some countries even more four to one is that the
[28:24]number of illiterate women compared to the illiterate men those are the
[28:30]you know many of those countries have such kind of numbers the
[28:38]violence it says one out of three women are subject to domestic
[28:44]violence at the hand of their domestic partner or at the end
[28:47]of their husbands or someone you know in their household always being
[28:54]oppressed there is a study says that says that even now more
[28:59]than 128 countries have enacted laws that prevent women to compete with
[29:08]men for example in the public arena to achieve for themselves to
[29:14]achieve autonomy to stop violence to find decent job to own a
[29:21]property to drive just recently you know just recently a big islamic
[29:27]country had a prevented woman from you know driving a basic need
[29:31]was off limit for women not only that an accomplished lady let's
[29:38]say a doctor a physician if she had to travel she could
[29:45]not travel unless she bring her 15 16 years old son with
[29:50]her that she would you know take care of and support and
[29:54]teach she had to have him with her in order to travel
[30:00]for example that much offense against women especially and we should not
[30:06]be you know shy from saying this brothers and sisters especially in
[30:11]the islamic countries and fortunately under the name of religion and under
[30:17]the name of quran and god we have been oppressing women for
[30:21]the past you know so many centuries under the name of islam
[30:27]of course those are all bogus unrealistic these are all an impression
[30:34]of the dominant you know patriarchal society of course when you have
[30:40]at the position of leadership all men no woman engaged definitely they
[30:47]wouldn't come they wouldn't come up with a better you know solution
[30:50]than what they had in their mind the best place for a
[30:57]woman is her kitchen her home she should not leave her home
[31:01]always for the stay you know at home and be servant to
[31:09]her husband to her family to her father in fact the only
[31:15]way that she seek nearness to allah and get close to allah
[31:19]through her husband serving her husband this is how they made it
[31:24]an impression for the members of the community if you want to
[31:31]be a devout muslim lady therefore do your best at serving and
[31:36]pleasing your husband by yourself you are nothing and this is how
[31:41]they have canceled half of the population you know half of the
[31:46]population are women and fortunately half have been canceled so when you
[31:53]have half of the population is cancelled do you think that this
[31:55]country or this nation can succeed definitely they cannot succeed so what
[32:02]is the best way the best way and this is not only
[32:07]for women also for men but definitely for women should be a
[32:10]biggest priority and that is acquiring knowledge and education again in today's
[32:20]life in today's world with so much competitiveness that you see today
[32:25]even the street sweeper need to have a degree has to have
[32:30]a proper education and proper training to do that you cannot stay
[32:35]at home and be serving the family alone and not doing anything
[32:42]and then you want your rights to be fulfilled it's the time
[32:46]that you also you know seek your own rights and the best
[32:53]way the best gate is through education it's a mandatory thing for
[33:13]every man for every family that they force or convince their male
[33:21]children to go to college and study the same thing should be
[33:24]happening to the females they also have to have this opportunity to
[33:30]go to college to learn because that will be reflected on their
[33:34]lives today statistics tell us that those with high mortality with poverty
[33:44]with sickness and deteriorated health care system belong to those that are
[33:55]illiterate who have is not have not studied have not gained you
[33:59]know proper education especially for the mothers when a mother is illiterate
[34:05]or uneducated not only she is hurting herself she's also hurting her
[34:13]children you see one way that our children compete at a school
[34:17]is it through the homework doing homework at home isn't it when
[34:22]a mother cannot help her child at home with his homework you
[34:29]know he stays behind he cannot compete with the rest of his
[34:35]classmates at a school first of all they don't know about their
[34:38]rights when you are educated you know what is your right and
[34:44]what is your responsibility you know better how to deal with children
[34:48]you know how to deal with them when they are sick you
[34:52]know how to deal with them when they are desperate when they
[34:58]need assistance when they need guidance is the best way is through
[35:03]education is that you go study and then at the same time
[35:10]you teach and train your beloved ones your family members it says
[35:16]that for the pregnancy the related causes of death during pregnancy the
[35:23]highest number is among ladies or girls between 15 and 19 years
[35:28]old each year 70 000 of them die due to pregnancy the
[35:37]pregnancy by itself does not kill what it kills is the lack
[35:43]of education and lack of awareness when the mother when this a
[35:48]pregnant lady doesn't know what to do or her household her husband
[35:53]doesn't know what to do but had she trained had she had
[36:00]enough training and education she would not ended up in such you
[36:06]know tragic incident again studies show that those who have you know
[36:13]proper education or better education they can do better health wise income
[36:21]wise even in their household say determination of the family let's say
[36:28]a family wants to move from michigan to go for example to
[36:34]texas those with education they have they make better choices than those
[36:39]who lack education who lack proper training all of those what i'm
[36:46]trying to say is that education is a must especially for the
[36:52]ladies that are always lagging behind statistics here this is according to
[36:57]the unesco numbers it says that 130 million girls 8 7 [Music]
[37:06]6 to 17 they stay away from school actually they don't even
[37:13]see a classroom that many people around the world that are so
[37:20]unfortunate and deprived from seeing you know proper education this has to
[37:28]be changing today out of this you know called fortune 500 out
[37:34]of this 30 women are at the position of leadership today we
[37:40]have four or five countries that are run by female premiers prime
[37:48]ministers and presidents and they're doing very well if not better you
[37:53]know than their counterpart look at new zealand for example new zealand
[37:58]is one of the best countries when it comes for the welfare
[38:04]for social services programs and for the status of the country and
[38:10]it's run by a female premier due to the education education comes
[38:18]in hand in hand with success for the country for the family
[38:25]and for the individual but there is one point the last point
[38:30]brothers and sisters and that has to come in a dignified matter
[38:35]manner how in a dignified manner allah subhanahu wa emphasize on this
[38:40]point always and that is hijab be careful hijab is not a
[38:49]barrier from ladies from women to get into the social arena and
[38:54]get engaged in their you know daily activity rather it's a way
[39:01]to preserve them to protect them actually hijab is not only mandated
[39:07]for for women it is mandated for men as well the difference
[39:12]is the size of the hijab the woman has to cover her
[39:19]entire body the man has to cover half of his body otherwise
[39:22]hijab is mandated for both and this is to bring tranquility peace
[39:30]and respect to ladies look at how allah subhanahu wa ta'ala describes
[39:38]the matter of hijab says we brought down to you whenever allah
[39:57]subhanahu wa ta'ala describes a mercy a blessing he says that i
[40:03]have brought down to you just like water you know whenever it
[40:06]uses enzel now it's a mercy so here the ayah says we
[40:11]have a broad down out of mercy what libas this dress he
[40:19]will cover you so you are not embarrassed this is one variation
[40:26]you ornament yourself with you become very beautiful and handsome with those
[40:33]clothes the dress of protection and immunity it will immunize you it
[40:44]will protect you this is for your own advantage when a lady
[40:51]goes in her protected hijab with the proper dress with the proper
[41:01]demeanor the society would respect her much much more than someone that
[41:06]has put herself you know excuse my language at the disposal of
[41:09]the community everybody can watch her and every everyone can denigrate her
[41:15]this is a concept that always islam and quran emphasize on the
[41:21]doors for success the doors to climb the steps of success are
[41:32]open to women provided with dignity with respect and that is hijab
[42:01]foreign [Music] you
