[2:41]three nights we've been discussing about amirul mumineen salawatullahi wa sallam Holly

[2:50]we're on the first night we said that it is important for

[2:58]us to follow Imam Ali of no idea pylyp salawatullahi wa sallam

[3:02]who are they because he achieved the pinnacle of the purpose of

[3:16]our creation and that is achieving the pleasure of Allah Subhanahu WA

[3:22]Ta'ala Imam Ali ABI a polyp salawatullahi wa sallam Holly by following

[3:28]his example we can also ensure a lot achieve the pleasure of

[3:36]Allah Subhanahu WA Ta'ala last night we discussed about one aspect of

[3:45]his salam ala ala and that is how he implemented successful strategies

[3:53]in eradicating poverty and homelessness a problem that is prominent in today's

[4:01]world where we have approximately 1 billion people worldwide who live under

[4:10]the poverty line and we discussed very briefly some of the strategies

[4:14]that if we can implement some of those strategies in this day

[4:19]and age it may L help us eliminate and eradicate poverty in

[4:26]1997 the United Nations celebrated the fiftieth anniversary for the Universal Declaration

[4:44]of Human Rights it was marked by then United Nations secretary-general mr.

[4:54]Kofi Annan the head of the United Nations at the time and

[4:58]this event was celebrated at the University of Tehran in Iran the

[5:11]UN secretary at the time mr.

[5:18]Kofi Annan in his speech he said that world leaders need to

[5:24]follow the example of Imam Ali and he quoted Imam Ali ibn

[5:33]ABI Taleb alayhis-salam from a letter that he wrote to his governor

[5:38]in Egypt when Imam was the Khalifa and he sent Malik Ashtar

[5:44]to be his governor of Egypt he wrote him a beautiful letter

[5:48]which is found in a book called natural ilaha naturally balagia is

[5:53]a book that was compiled in the fourth Islamic century by one

[6:00]of the scholars to consist of the sermons of Imam Ali ibn

[6:05]ABI Taleb alehissalaam the letters that Imam Ali of Navy pilot wrote

[6:09]and the short words of wisdom that's a book that I recommend

[6:13]to each and every one of you brothers and sisters to read

[6:17]and a good place to start in that book is the short

[6:25]place the short words of wisdom read them see how beautiful imam

[6:29]salam ala gives us some hints that will help us in life

[6:33]and very brief statements in that letter imam ali abdullah saleh alayhis-salam

[6:43]amongst the beautiful things he wrote to his governor in egypt malik

[6:49]al Ashta was this wonderful statement where he tells Malik varlam and

[6:58]an assasin fan my caffeine I wanna leave on laka fell Hulk

[7:08]and be aware that people in this world are classified in one

[7:13]of two categories they are either your brothers and sisters in faith

[7:22]or they're your counterpart in humanity so treat each and every one

[7:31]of your subjects with mercy and kindness three years ago I was

[7:37]invited to speak at the city where I live in in Canada

[7:43]at the City Council or the City Hall you know where they

[7:46]have the mayor but there are many people of dignitaries in Canada

[7:54]we have provinces you guys have States and the head of the

[7:57]province we call them premiers you guys called them for example governors

[8:00]the head of the state so we had people who are members

[8:06]of the Parliament people who are like at the deputy premier we

[8:08]had the mayor and and so on so forth in addition to

[8:13]about hundreds of other people of different faiths and the idea was

[8:21]to discuss about Islam in my talk one of the things I

[8:25]mentioned was this statement made by Kofi Annan quoting Imam Ali of

[8:37]nibel I love alehissalaam that people in this world are either your

[8:42]brothers and faith or your counterpart in humanity after my speech I

[8:52]had two people approached me one of them said I am a

[8:58]Jewish poet I was so inspired by that statement of Imam Ali

[9:09]that you quoted that I'm gonna use it as an inspiration for

[9:15]some of my poetry the next person introduced himself as an assistant

[9:25]professor in the local university there he said I'm an assistant professor

[9:37]at the local university I was so intrigued by this statement you

[9:42]mentioned about Imam Ali alehissalaam that I'm going to teach it to

[9:46]my children and to my students at the University when I heard

[9:56]this I remembered the hadith from Imam Sadiq alehissalaam our sixth Imam

[10:08]who says tell people about us for if people we're to know

[10:16]who we are they would follow us and I thought to myself

[10:27]subhanAllah one sentence of natural balada one sentence of imam ali alayhis-salam

[10:37]had so much inspiration to people imagine what would happen if we

[10:44]introduced all of the words of imam ali IBN ABI talib to

[10:47]people what difference would that make and what change would that accomplish

[10:54]there are people who sometimes attend prestigious Institute's and they would wear

[11:03]sweaters carrying the name of these Institute's you know people for example

[11:07]who attend Harvard have you seen them for example you know wearing

[11:13]the sweater Harvard people who attend Oxford Cambridge Princeton Yale etc so

[11:21]those institutions people feel proud that they belong to such institutions and

[11:29]they want to show it off brothers and sisters we need to

[11:32]be proud that we belong to the institution of muhammad wa ali

[11:37]muhammad rasool allah we belong to the institution of Ahlul Bayt alayhi

[11:50]wa sallam we belong to the institution where people after 1400 years

[11:56]non-muslims quote them are inspired by them leaders tell the world that

[12:09]they for need to follow their example isn't that something that we

[12:14]should be proud of that these are our leaders such our leaders

[12:19]who are being quoted by non-muslims but there's such great inspiration there

[12:28]is a group of Christianity there is a sect that is called

[12:35]the Mennonite it's a small sect of Christianity you know you have

[12:42]for example Catholics Protestants there is a sect of Protestants that is

[12:48]called the Mennonites these people among their fundamental part of their faith

[12:56]is that they do not engage in war and hence they were

[12:59]actually the only group that was exempted from participating in war in

[13:05]the United States in the 20th century so they were given an

[13:10]exemption because it's part of their integral faith that they don't engage

[13:19]in combat they have a big base in Pennsylvania one of their

[13:27]leaders a man by the name of David shank David back about

[13:32]20 years ago came across the life of Imam Ali o venerable

[13:42]I love alayhis-salam through his research he has a doctorate degree as

[13:46]well so the man is a researcher so one day while he

[13:48]was conducting his research somehow he came across the life of Imam

[13:55]Ali ibn ABI Taleb alehissalaam he started reading it he was intrigued

[14:00]by the peaceful nature of Imam Ali o venerable pile of alehissalaam

[14:06]that Imam Ali never initiated war even when people gathered an army

[14:14]to fight against him war was always the last option he would

[14:20]go and talk to the opponents speak to his enemies and tries

[14:26]to find a peaceful solution only when they reject all the solutions

[14:32]that he proposes and they actually engage in combat does he then

[14:37]defend just like us all allah sallallahu alayhi wa alayhi wasalam few

[14:45]nights ago i mentioned that the prophet sallallahu alayhi wa never instigated

[14:52]war all his battles were either in defense or because he wrote

[14:57]a treaty with a group of people and they turned against the

[15:00]treaty they violated the terms of the treaty so again he had

[15:05]to defend himself and to defend the Muslims similarly was Imam Ali

[15:11]of Nepali body his salam even at the Battle of Sofia now

[15:15]we have nabi Sufyan brings an army and they cease water which

[15:24]interestingly is also the river of fraud but not in karbala it's

[16:22]it an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth

[16:28]well that's what his army suggested Imam Ali's army told him just

[16:34]like they blocked us from the water yeah Amir al-mumineen let us

[16:40]now and turn block them from getting to the water let's stop

[16:44]there access and if they have no access to the water guess

[16:47]what the battle would not be too long because soon they will

[16:54]run out of water and they can't continue the fight Imam Ali

[16:59]ibn ABI Talib alehissalaam however looked at his soldiers and said this

[17:06]is not how we engage in combat we don't fight like that

[17:11]everyone gets access to the water and he let them have free

[17:15]access to the water where do you find such great personality such

[17:24]great compassion such great kindness with his enemies and in that same

[17:29]battle some of his dearest companions got killed including one of the

[17:34]greatest prophets companion a man by the name of Ahmad a vinyasa

[17:38]Amari ben yossef was fighting next to Imam Ali o gonna be

[17:43]a pile of alayhis-salam at the age of 93 at the Battle

[17:46]of Sofia and he gets killed in that battle by the army

[17:51]of Maria and his loss was a painful loss to Imam Ali

[17:58]Ali Saleh but yet even then that's not how he deals with

[18:02]his enemies David shank upon reading about the life of Imam Ali

[18:06]Salaam allaha la from this Mennonite group found that there is a

[18:13]lot of similarities between the integral belief of Shia Muslims resembled in

[18:20]their leadership such as imam ali IBN ABI talib alehissalaam and between

[18:25]their faith of Mennonites where they don't fight so he wrote letters

[18:35]to Shia leaders and initiated what he called the Mennonite Shia dialogue

[18:41]that we have a lot of things in common one fundamental thing

[18:46]in our faith as Mennonites that's common with you as Shia is

[18:52]that you guys are people of peace so they initiated this kind

[18:55]of conversation and it's been going on for the past 20 years

[18:58]approximately this kind of conversation brothers and sisters I let me ask

[19:06]you don't you feel proud that your leadership is being read upon

[19:12]twenty fourteen hundred years after their life and people are using them

[19:20]as examples for peace for love for justice for mercy isn't that

[19:24]something that not to be proud about yes indeed we so proud

[19:30]that we have such great leaders like imam ali IBN ABI talib

[19:34]salawatullahi wa sallam Ali we have such great leaders like the prophet

[19:38]muhammad sallallahoalyhiwasallam Salalah Mohamed Salah imam ali or maybe a pileup salawatullahi

[19:48]wa salamu alayh represented the pinnacle of justice the pinnacle of kindness

[19:58]mercy compassion devotion and submission to allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala he teaches us

[20:10]if you want to be successful then obey Allah Subhanahu WA Ta'ala

[20:18]and you will be successful do what's right because it is right

[20:26]follow the truth even if that leads to unpleasant consequences to you

[20:34]don't just do what people like for the sake of doing what

[20:39]the people like but rather do what is right one day he

[20:51]comes on the streets of Kufa he sees a man selling an

[21:01]armor he looks at the armor and it is just like his

[21:09]own armor that he had just lost at the Battle of Sofia

[21:16]he asked this man said this armor belongs to me I lost

[21:23]it it seems you have my armor the man says no this

[21:25]is my armor and I'm selling it if you wish you can

[21:30]purchase it from me I can sell it to you Imam Ali

[21:34]Ali assalaam says well how about if we go to the judge

[21:37]and see what the judge says so they go and they see

[21:44]the judge by the name of Sharia who was appointed by imam

[21:46]ali IBN ABI talib alehissalaam in Kufa when survey sees imam ali

[21:55]salam ala ali coming with this man schway greets imam ali arya

[22:02]salon and says assalamu alayka a bell hassan Oh father mobile Hassan

[22:06]peace be upon you imam ali ali salon looks at him and

[22:12]says yes right when you see two people coming so that you

[22:15]can have a judgement between both of them do not call one

[22:20]of them by his title call him by his name so say

[22:24]assalamu alayka our ally why so that the other person does not

[22:32]feel that you're going to have connections you know this guy is

[22:35]like okay well he knows him you know definitely lost the case

[22:37]because of connections so greet me by my first name he said

[22:46]okay all right Imam Ali Ali Salaam then stands right next to

[22:51]his opponent right next to him he does not get up he

[22:57]does not sit down right next to him sure hey I said

[23:00]what is the matter Imam Ali Ali Salaam says this armor this

[23:05]man is selling belongs to me that's my armor I lost it

[23:14]and this man is selling it on the street shall I then

[23:17]asked the man he said what do you say he said no

[23:25]this armor is mine it's in my hand under my control I'm

[23:33]selling it in Islam the law says if you have you control

[23:40]over something and someone else comes to challenge your control comes to

[23:52]dispute your control and then the two of you go to the

[23:57]judge Islam says that the person who has control over the matter

[24:08]does not need to bring any proof that this belongs to him

[24:13]it's the person who's contesting has to bring the proof for example

[24:17]just as an example here if you live in a house you're

[24:24]living in the house and you say this house is my house

[24:26]if someone else knocks on your door one day and says to

[24:34]you this house belongs to me get out and you go before

[24:40]a judge the judge will not ask you for a proof because

[24:43]you're living in the house the house is under your control but

[24:48]the person who is contesting the judge will say bring me the

[24:51]proof that this house belongs to you so that we can give

[24:57]it back if that is the case because you had control over

[24:59]the house so I then turns to Imam Ali Ali Salaam and

[25:06]says yeah I'm Eve al-mumineen yeah Ali Abner be inaudible the armor

[25:10]was under the control of this man it was in his hand

[25:14]he's controlling it you are contesting his ownership yeah Ali do you

[25:22]have a proof that this armor belongs to you imam ali IBN

[25:28]ABI talib al salam says no i don't he says well then

[25:33]I'm sorry Ali I can't give you the armor back armor belongs

[25:38]to him and that's the judgement a man a league of navya

[25:44]polyps Allah Allah Allah says well done Yosh right that is the

[25:48]judgment Imam Ali was testing his own judge they exit from the

[26:00]courthouse this man looks at Imam Ali Ali has salam and confusion

[26:04]he says aren't you I leave no ABI talib said yes I

[26:15]am aren't you the Khalifa of the Muslims you're the head of

[26:19]the state he said yes I am doesn't this judge work for

[26:29]you you hired him said yes I did he said but he

[26:32]just just against you he just ruled against you but you're gonna

[26:39]fire him like some presidents fire other people who interfere in their

[26:42]investigation will you be doing the same thing he says no this

[26:53]is the right judgment I went to see how he judges and

[26:58]this is what the slant says you had the armor under your

[27:01]control I am the one contesting it I don't have a proof

[27:06]it belongs to you that's the right judgement it's yours this man

[27:11]looked at Imam Ali you've never be a pile of alehissalaam and

[27:17]said yeah Amir al-mumineen I am NOT a Muslim I'm a Christian

[27:20]man he said I know I know you're a Christian man he

[27:26]said and you just dealt with me in such a manner under

[27:30]your state under your authority under your leadership under that judge whom

[27:36]you appointed he said yes because that's what our religion teaches us

[27:45]he says yeah Ali I have never ever seen a leader like

[27:48]you and it makes me proud to say a shadow a la

[27:56]ilaha illallah muhammadan rasulallah Annika was see us ooh la la la

[28:04]la Muhammad William if this is Islam then I am proud to

[28:12]follow such a religion in which the leader is so just it's

[28:15]so fair whatever you just did no one would do it unless

[28:22]he is a prophet of God Imam Ali said I am NOT

[28:25]a prophet of God he says then you have to be a

[28:28]devout successor a divine successor of prophet of God he says yes

[28:35]that I am and he says yeah Ali here is your armor

[28:40]back you're right it does belong to you take it he says

[28:46]no you can keep it I give it to you anyone Ali

[28:49]Salim Ali walks away brothers and sisters we have seen leaders in

[28:58]the world today today in some democracies and some developed countries and

[29:06]is that the way they deal with their subjects aren't we proud

[29:11]that we belong to such an institution we belong to such leadership

[29:17]Imam Ali ABI applaud of Salomon why he is so great at

[29:30]all aspects from his birth which was in the holy Kaba inside

[29:35]the holy Kaba where his mother took him and she was pregnant

[29:42]about to deliver him and she went by the Kaaba and she

[29:48]said my lord I ask you by the greatness of my forefathers

[30:05]my delivery through the greatness of the child whom I have in

[31:07]his grandfather all his ancestors up to prophet Ismail alehissalaam and ibraheem

[31:13]we're all monotheistic were all devout worshippers it was a house of

[31:19]integrity a house of honor he's brought into this world in the

[31:23]holy Kaba raised by allah so allah sallallahu alayhi wa aalihi wasallam

[31:31]at the time when the Prophet SAW Allah Allahu Allah has sealed

[31:35]the message from the angel Jibril imam ali ali salam says I

[31:38]was with rasulallah i heared what the angel was telling him I

[31:45]asked the Prophet llaves illallah I am hearing he says yes ya

[31:48]Ali you hear what I hear and you see what I see

[31:53]except that you are not a prophet of God and he stood

[31:59]next to us oh la la la la li o Allah from

[32:04]that day as a child the first to believe in him the

[32:06]first to follow him the first to defend him until the Prophet

[32:12]migrated from Mecca to Medina where again imam ali al salam stood

[32:17]next to a saloon lololololol in all the battles with the exception

[32:21]of the Battle of Tabuk where the prophet sallallaahu LaValle put him

[32:25]as the leader of Medina when the Prophet had to leave Medina

[32:30]and Imam Ali Saleh Ali sallam said Yaga so la la and

[34:14]please me don't try to fool me for I have deserted myself

[34:17]away from your pleasures away from you I am taking myself to

[34:27]allah submitting to Allah I will not let you fool me you

[34:32]life is too short your dangers are too great and you're full

[34:38]of difficulties and problems and then he cries and says ah which

[34:47]is the cry of pain mental let Assad Baba doctor I wanna

[34:51]shop at Asafa from how little I have done and what a

[34:58]long journey I have ahead of me to meet my lord and

[36:05]in allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala remember allah created us one of the reasons

[36:14]for the creation is to achieve his pleasure not that he needs

[36:19]it it's for our own benefit when you pray it's for your

[36:27]own good when you fast it's for your own good when you

[36:31]read aura it's for your own good Allah doesn't need any of

[36:37]it but it's for your own benefits when you wear hijab it's

[36:42]for your own good the more you'll increase your faith and believe

[36:47]in Allah the more you'll increase your submission to allah subhana wa

[36:53]ta'ala it's a proportionality it's a proportionality Imam Ali Baba pas de

[37:08]varela goes with his slave he had a slave by the name

[37:13]of open bah ha ha they go to buy a shirt he

[37:19]buys two shirts one four five silver coins and one for three

[37:43]you're the halifa you're the head of the state you meet all

[37:47]the dignitaries you need all the good people you know the so

[37:53]you give me the cheaper one he says no come but I'm

[37:58]an older man you're a younger man you would like to wear

[38:01]you know the nice brands like we call them today so I'm

[38:07]gonna give you the brand name I will take the regular good

[38:11]old model and he tells Samba this world does not really matter

[38:20]much to me because I seek the pleasure of Allah and he

[38:25]does he does to do to Allah he prostrates and he says

[39:04]how people think of me I am the slave of Allah whatever

[39:07]Allah wants of me I do so it is an honor to

[39:12]be a slave of Allah and I am proud it's a great

[39:18]pride to have you as my Lord you are the way I

[39:24]like so make me the way you like you Allah can we

[39:29]say that about Allah are we the way that Allah likes the

[39:33]way we dress the way we act the way we talk the

[39:39]way we behave are we the best F or not this is

[39:43]the night when you need to ask Allah subhana WA Ta'ala to

[39:45]us become among the best that's the a of a co-ed belief

[39:51]increase your belief in Allah be aware that we have a day

[39:59]of judgment awaiting us we have the day of judgment where we

[40:02]will be questioned about each and everything that we do in this

[40:06]world when allah subhana wa ta'ala asks you my dear why did

[40:13]you not pray what are you going to say to allah why

[40:16]did you not wear your hijab what are you going to say

[40:19]to allah why did you not take care of your parents what

[40:26]are you going to say to allah why were you not well-behaved

[40:29]why were you not carrying the best of manners what are we

[49:26]down this old mother this old lady after all she's gone through

[49:36]raises her head and says son slow down I am worried about

[49:40]you that you might trip fall and hurt yourself musa alayhis salaam

[49:49]the prophet turns to allah he says my lord what is this

[49:57]mercy from this mother towards her child after all he's done to

[50:02]her she is still worried about him a lot replies and says

[50:09]ya Musa I swear by my greatness and my highness I am

[50:13]more merciful with my servants than this mother is with her son

[50:21]you wanted to see an example of my mercy I showed you

[50:23]a mother see how much a mother loves her children brothers and

[50:29]sisters but when Allah wants to demonstrate an example of his own

[50:33]mercy he uses a mother take care of your mothers take care

[50:37]of your fathers take care of your parents make sure you kiss

[50:43]their hands you kiss their foreheads you listen to them even if

[50:48]they were people who may sometimes disrespect you even if Islam says
