[0:52]one of the most important reasons for the fast exponential growth of
[1:01]islam is that the religion of islam is a universal religion islam
[1:12]grew very quickly immediately after rasulullah the religion of islam began to
[1:24]spread like wildfire it grew very quickly and until today the religion
[1:30]of islam is the fastest growing religion one of the most important
[1:36]reasons for that is because islam is a universal religion islam does
[1:42]not regard itself as a religion for one group of people or
[1:47]for one language or for one race and one community islam regards
[1:55]itself as a universal religion for everyone not for the arabs not
[2:00]for the non-arabs for the white or the black or one one
[2:08]particular community islam is for everyone and it adapts and assimilates with
[2:15]all cultures see there are some religions that are exclusively for one
[2:20]group of people for example hinduism the name hinduism has india hind
[2:27]in it meaning that this is a religion for this particular group
[2:30]of people now other people could join that religion but it's there's
[2:34]a special thing about it that is for that group of people
[2:38]or for example judaism judaism you can't convert and according to the
[2:45]orthodox jews you can't convert to judaism you have to be born
[2:49]as a jewish person and it's passed on through lineage it's passed
[2:54]on through family through the bloodline however christianity and islam you see
[2:58]they're the fastest growing religions and the they're the world's most popular
[3:03]and populist religions why because they allow conversion because they don't regard
[3:11]themselves as religions for one segment and one group of people the
[3:14]religion of islam does not regard itself for the arabs or quraish
[3:20]or people from the middle east no anyone could be a anyone
[3:24]could be a muslim anyone can join the religion of islam it
[3:27]doesn't matter what language you speak it doesn't matter what culture you
[3:31]have it doesn't matter where you came from you can be a
[3:34]muslim because the message of the quran and the message of islam
[3:39]is a universal message allah says in the quran this is a
[3:48]reminder for the alameen for the universe in another verse allah says
[4:06]is a message for everyone it's not only the message for one
[4:10]group of people and one segment of people this is why the
[4:15]muslims they were encouraged from day one to migrate to assimilate to
[4:23]travel islam doesn't tell you you have to stay in this particular
[4:26]location and you can't move and you have to stay speaking this
[4:28]language and this color and this dress code no islam allowed migration
[4:33]this is why the muslims migrated even before the hijra of rasulallah
[4:39]before the prophet migrated from mecca to madina there were migrations where
[4:44]the first group of migrants they migrated to africa to abyssinia they
[4:50]migrated there and they were accepted there and there was a muslim
[4:54]community in africa before it grew anywhere else then migrated to madina
[5:05]because the religion of islam encourages migration the religion of islam encourages
[5:11]going where you're comfortable where you have the freedom to practice your
[5:17]faith if you can't practice your faith here go somewhere else allah
[5:21]subhanahu ta'ala describes in the quran that some of those kuffar some
[5:26]of those people who they wanted to believe in islam but they
[5:32]were forced to continue idol worship because they they refused to migrate
[5:37]allah says in the quran those who when the angel of death
[5:47]comes to take their soul they have oppressed themselves why because they
[5:51]refused to migrate because they were forced to follow the laws of
[5:59]the mushrikeen the angels tell them where were you they say we
[6:11]were weak in the land we didn't have anything yes we were
[6:15]forced to not pray we were forced to break our fast we
[6:19]were forced to do this and do that and then allah says
[6:23]or they tell them the angels tell them the reply from the
[6:33]angels comes to them was it the earth of god so vast
[6:35]for you to travel this means that islam encourages migration islam encourages
[6:42]assimilation islam encourages going and meeting different cultures and meeting different groups
[6:51]of people and muslims traveled muslims have been traveling one of the
[6:57]main reasons that the religion of islam is growing is that muslims
[7:01]have been traveling muslims have been spreading it through their journeys through
[7:06]their travel right now the most populous muslim country is which country
[7:10]indonesia indonesia has the most muslims in one country how did islam
[7:19]go to indonesia islam arrived to indonesia because of merchants islam went
[7:24]to indonesia because of migrants people traveling merchants doing trade doing transaction
[7:31]and that is how indonesia became the most populous muslim country so
[7:36]the religion of islam encourages traveling meeting new people show people the
[7:42]beauty of islam show people the akhlaq of islam assimilate with people
[7:50]and muslims have been traveling until muslim and the religion of islam
[7:56]and muslims came to this country the united states of america where
[8:02]islam is a minority religion but muslims have been here muslims either
[8:05]came here because of religious persecution for example my family in iraq
[8:13]my fa my grandfather had to escape from karbala in the year
[8:17]1970.
[8:18]he had to escape from karbala because he was going to be
[8:20]executed so many families and many religious families and scholarly families they
[8:27]were persecuted they were persecuted under the baath regime this is one
[8:32]of the reasons why my grandfather left iraq others they migrated for
[8:39]the purpose of freedom for the purpose of opportunities economic opportunities others
[8:44]for the pursuit of knowledge for the pursuit of more opportunities people
[8:51]traveled for many reasons and islam came to the united states and
[8:56]in fact there have been muslims here for the past hundred years
[9:01]more than a hundred years there have been muslims here and many
[9:04]of them became successful individuals many of them became reached positions of
[9:10]power and attained and reached the american dream while holding on to
[9:14]their faith and holding on to their religion now we have many
[9:20]success stories we have many stories of success where people they came
[9:26]here they migrated yesterday we were at someone's house and he told
[9:30]us that his uncle was on the titanic his uncle was on
[9:35]the titanic there are people from this community that were on the
[9:39]titanic or there were people that came around that time so the
[9:44]religion of islam either there are some who are born muslim like
[9:49]many of those who are converts or many of those from the
[9:53]black community for example they came to the religion of islam not
[9:56]or the religion of islam came here not through migrants but through
[10:01]those who were here they have been here for hundreds of years
[10:04]and there are also those who migrated to this country and brought
[10:09]the religion of islam with them now despite all of these success
[10:16]stories that we hear all the time and we're very proud of
[10:19]the muslim community in america has seen a lot of challenges as
[10:27]well and continues to face many challenges one of the obvious challenges
[10:32]is the islamophobia the fear of islam and the accusations against the
[10:35]religion of islam this is an outside challenge a challenge posed from
[10:38]the outside but then we also have internal challenges we also have
[10:43]internal struggles that we face we see that the religion of islam
[10:49]is being diluted slowly we see that islam has become islam by
[10:55]name and the essence of islam is gone the true meaning of
[11:02]islam the true soul and spirit of islam is not there with
[11:08]many people and we see that muslims in the west in the
[11:10]united states they face a constant struggle because you're a minority when
[11:17]you're a minority it's difficult for you to pray when you see
[11:21]no one else praying it's difficult for you to fast when you
[11:25]see everyone else fasting or everyone else breaking their fast and you
[11:28]have to fast it's difficult for you to practice your religion that's
[11:31]what it is when you're a minority the challenge becomes much more
[11:36]difficult for you it becomes difficult to practice your faith and especially
[11:42]if you're a shia if you're a follower of the alabait then
[11:45]you're a minority within a minority and that makes it even more
[11:51]difficult that makes it even the challenge more difficult for you so
[11:55]being a muslim a practicing muslim is very difficult especially for those
[12:03]who are living for example out of dearborn out of this area
[12:07]here alhamdulillah you have access to halal access to masjids access to
[12:11]a big community that you can fall back on there are many
[12:16]muslims who live in small towns and small cities that don't even
[12:20]have one masjid that don't even have halal food to eat there's
[12:25]no access to halal food in many places i remember when i
[12:29]was growing up we were growing up in san diego we didn't
[12:32]have access to a lot of halal food we didn't have access
[12:35]to mosques as there is in this community so this is why
[12:39]we shouldn't take our mosques and places of worship and access to
[12:42]halal for granted we should appreciate them my dear brothers and sisters
[12:48]if we look at the muslims living in the west the muslims
[12:53]living in america we see that the muslim community can be divided
[12:59]into three categories three groups of people there are those who have
[13:04]totally given up on the religion totally given up on their faith
[13:10]totally given up on their values and completely left they you know
[13:15]turned around and did not look back at all this is one
[13:20]group of people there's a second group of people who are muslim
[13:25]but they're what you call those who are muslim by name there
[13:31]are those who you call the muslim that just come out in
[13:33]the occasions in the month of ramadan celebrate the month of ramadan
[13:38]but that's it we're just talking about ramadan it's ramadan but there's
[13:41]nothing else nothing happens and that's the one that you see the
[13:48]faith and the belief slowly being diluted and not practicing their faith
[13:52]the way they're supposed to be practicing and then there's the third
[13:56]group those are the the ones the menin who hold on to
[14:01]their faith hold on to their values and at the same time
[14:04]they're successful individuals at the same time they attain high degrees at
[14:09]the same time they attain positions of power and authority and keep
[14:13]their faith and keep their values and hold on to that my
[14:18]dear brothers and sisters we have to try to be like the
[14:24]third category islam says be successful islam says get rich be successful
[14:29]attain high positions of power be educated do whatever you want as
[14:35]long as it's in the halal but don't forget your faith don't
[14:39]forget your values don't forget what you stand for it's very unfortunate
[14:44]that we see some people as soon as they get rich or
[14:47]they get popular or they attain high positions of power they slowly
[14:53]start disassociating themselves with their religion and with their values and their
[14:59]beliefs my dear brothers and sisters your religion is your identity your
[15:02]religion and your faith is the most important investment that you can
[15:08]invest in life because it's your faith that will take you to
[15:12]allah subhanahu ta'ala it's your faith that will help you and support
[15:16]you on the day of judgment it's not your money it's not
[15:20]your power none of this stuff will help you the moment we
[15:21]die the moment we leave this life we are separated from everything
[15:28]they said we've seen we've attended funerals do they come and throw
[15:30]the money in the grave with the person do they come and
[15:33]take their title and their position of power no that's it you're
[15:39]totally separated from everything so we have to try to be like
[15:42]that third category be successful be a high achiever be a very
[15:49]successful individual in fact the muslims have to be the most successful
[15:52]you have to be the most educated in your class you have
[15:56]to be the most high achieving you have to have the highest
[15:58]positions of power you have to but also hold on to your
[16:04]identity hold on to your faith hold on to your values this
[16:12]religion it was brought to us over hundreds of years until it
[16:15]came and it reached me i should not be the reason so
[16:20]that this line of continuation stops that's for those who have inherited
[16:25]the religion from their family and there are others who are converted
[16:27]to the religion of islam have joined the religion of islam this
[16:31]is a great honor that you're holding on have it continue have
[16:35]it continue in your generations and in your future children allah says
[16:52]if you are a believer and your progeny and your children follow
[16:57]you in the iman in the faith your children will be with
[17:01]you later on your children will be with you in the akra
[17:04]in the afterlife so we have to try to be from those
[17:08]believers those individuals proud of i mentioned this hadith in one of
[17:17]the earlier nights he says i wish i had met my brothers
[17:26]they tell him who are your brothers he tells them my brothers
[17:32]are those who believe in me even though they have not seen
[17:37]me those who fast and pray and go to hajj and give
[17:40]their homes and zakat and do everything they haven't seen rasulallah those
[17:46]people are you my dear brothers and sisters the ones who have
[17:51]faith and held on to your faith even though you haven't seen
[17:56]rasulallah you haven't seen the imams those who are living during the
[18:00]time of the during the time of the greater occultation imam zain
[18:08]al-abidin he tells his companion he tells him his companion he tells
[18:38]he tells him the people who believe in the imam and they
[18:44]are waiting they are anticipating the arrival of the imam and they
[18:49]are they are firm in their faith they are better than any
[18:56]people they are better than the people of any time those who
[18:59]hold on to their faith why because god gave them what when
[19:05]they don't see in the time of but they act as if
[19:10]they see the imam right in front of them isn't this a
[19:12]high level of faith isn't this a high level of iman my
[19:16]dear brothers and sisters we should have that we should reach that
[19:20]level of iman now a very important question many people ask is
[19:26]how do i do that how do i preserve my faith in
[19:30]a country where the majority of the people don't practice my faith
[19:34]where there's constant misconceptions against my religion and against my beliefs and
[19:41]against my faith how do i practice that this is a major
[19:44]issue especially some parents some parents they call me they tell me
[19:49]i can't sleep at night why because i'm afraid i'm going to
[19:52]lose my children because i'm afraid that i am not passing the
[19:57]baton to my children and they are not holding on to their
[20:00]faith and their beliefs and this is keeping me up at night
[20:06]this is a major struggle for some people and some people they
[20:09]know how to deal with it correctly and other people they're a
[20:13]total mess they don't know how to deal with this challenge they
[20:15]don't know how to deal with this struggle that they just i
[20:22]received a call a while ago where a person was telling me
[20:25]you know what i was afraid for my daughter so i went
[20:29]to i took her to the country back home and i took
[20:33]away her passport and i let her live over there as soon
[20:37]as she became 18 she goes to the embassy she takes the
[20:42]passport and then she comes to the airport she takes off for
[20:44]her job and that's it i don't see her anymore i told
[20:48]him the problem was that you were forcing religion the problem was
[20:53]that you did not talk to her the problem was that she
[20:57]was not convinced when she was practicing her religion that's a major
[21:02]problem you need to let people understand the value of their faith
[21:05]and this is the first point my dear brothers and sisters how
[21:07]can we pass on the baton how can we hold on to
[21:12]our faith hold on to our values the first answer is that
[21:17]you need to know the value of what you're holding you need
[21:20]to understand and comprehend that the religion and the faith that you
[21:25]have is something that's very valuable especially if you're a follower of
[21:29]the way especially if you're a follower of the albeit what you
[21:35]have is something that many people do not have what you have
[21:37]is something that many were killed just because they have that if
[21:43]you're a follower of the albeit if you're a muslim if you're
[21:48]a believer know the value of what you have when you know
[21:50]the value of something you preserve it but when you don't know
[21:54]the value of something you're not going to care for it imagine
[21:56]someone holding on to a diamond they have a diamond in their
[22:01]hand but they don't know that this is a diamond they think
[22:03]it's a rock a simple rock what are they going to do
[22:06]with it they're going to kick it around they're going to not
[22:09]take care of it they're going to disregard it but when you
[22:13]know that what you have is a diamond you're going to preserve
[22:17]it you're going to take care of it you're going to cherish
[22:21]it my dear brothers and sisters your faith is a diamond it's
[22:25]greater than all of the diamonds in the world hold on to
[22:29]it take care of it preserve it when we know the value
[22:34]of our faith when we know the value of our religion then
[22:37]we're not going to allow anything or anyone to come in the
[22:44]way of our religion today some people they say yeah but look
[22:48]at the muslims the muslims they're so backwards they're dictators what's going
[22:53]on in the middle east it's a mess i don't want to
[22:57]have anything to do with that anymore i want freedom i want
[22:59]opportunities i want democracy my dear brothers and sisters first of all
[23:04]what's going on in the middle east has nothing to do with
[23:07]the religion of islam what's going on in some countries is very
[23:12]far from the religion of islam in fact it was the muslims
[23:16]who brought this modern technology it was the muslims who performed the
[23:21]first surgeries it was the muslims who built the first hospitals it
[23:26]was the muslims who thought of the first flying machine it was
[23:30]the muslims who invented so many things the first university in the
[23:36]world was started by the muslims times change politics changed because of
[23:39]political issues don't look back at your religion yes there's chaos going
[23:43]on in some parts of the middle east and everywhere in the
[23:48]world there's chaos going on but that doesn't mean that this is
[23:53]islam that's at fault islam contributed when you know the contributions of
[23:59]islam and the muslim community then you will better appreciate it algebra
[24:04]was created by the muslims chemistry one of the students of imam
[24:08]jaffar so when you know that you will value your faith more
[24:19]this is one very important point know the value of what you
[24:24]have when you know the value of your faith you appreciate it
[24:27]you take care of it you preserve it and you want to
[24:29]pass it on to future generations second my dear brothers and sisters
[24:36]we muslims need to be able to distinguish and know the difference
[24:41]between culture and religion many muslims they don't know where to draw
[24:49]the line between culture and religion they think for example hummus is
[24:53]a part of islam they think that cultural things are islamic things
[24:59]when we need to draw the line and we need to know
[25:02]the difference islam is a universal religion islam surpasses a lot of
[25:11]these cultural barriers but when we don't know the difference we start
[25:15]associating culture with religion and then i see for example someone who
[25:19]comes from a different country they have a different culture but their
[25:22]religion and then we start you know accusing one another and saying
[25:27]you're not a real practicing muslim and you're not a real practicing
[25:30]muslim and it creates a headache and it creates division we need
[25:36]to know the difference between culture and religion and we need to
[25:40]prioritize religion over culture now culture is a good thing islam is
[25:48]not against culture however i should not compromise and sacrifice my faith
[25:54]for the sake of my culture some people even in the mosques
[25:58]even in places of worship they come and they say but this
[26:00]is something we have been doing for hundreds of years this is
[26:04]something that we have to do if it's not islam keep it
[26:09]out if it's especially if it's causing a problem for you especially
[26:12]if it's causing division within the community today we see the muslim
[26:18]community in the west there are many divisions within the mosques for
[26:25]example place the communities why over cultural issues why are they speaking
[26:29]this language why are they dressed this way why are people you
[26:32]know from this community coming to this masjid or not that causes
[26:38]problems or the mindset the mindset that men should always come first
[26:42]the mindset that men should be the rulers and leaders of the
[26:47]community and decision makers and the positions on the board are all
[26:51]men this is not islamic this has nothing to do with the
[26:54]religion of islam but because we brought our cultural baggage with us
[26:58]that has hindered the progress and growth of the muslim community so
[27:04]we have to be very careful we have to know the difference
[27:09]between culture and religion and at times we don't need to practice
[27:12]our culture our culture does not have any you know it's not
[27:16]going to help us that's it your culture is something that's been
[27:19]going on but your religion is what you value your religion is
[27:23]what you will help you and support you this is not to
[27:26]say that you should let go of your mother language and your
[27:29]dress code and all of these things but your religion should be
[27:36]prioritized my dear brothers and sisters the third point that i wanted
[27:41]to discuss i said first know the value of your faith second
[27:45]know the difference between culture and religion third every single one of
[27:52]us needs to be educated in the religion of islam every single
[27:56]person needs to know what they believe in if someone asks you
[28:01]what do you believe in what are the tenants what are the
[28:03]principles of your faith can you tell them can you talk to
[28:09]them if someone comes and tells you your prophet this and your
[28:12]quran that and this and that are you able to defend your
[28:18]religion unfortunately many muslims can't many muslims they themselves fall victim to
[28:23]what they hear on cnn and fox news they fall victim to
[28:26]it they believe the misconceptions and the accusations against the religion of
[28:30]islam why because we're uneducated because we don't pursue knowledge because we
[28:37]go to the top universities we get the best grades in school
[28:40]but we don't care about learning about the religion of islam we
[28:46]don't care about learning about the akam about our our creed our
[28:49]belief system our values we don't care about that we say that's
[28:53]just something on the side no my dear brothers and sisters your
[28:56]faith is something that you should know because you have a responsibility
[29:03]allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is going to ask you on the day
[29:06]of judgment you had to pray okay prayer requires do you know
[29:09]how to do the do you make mistakes and errors in the
[29:11]world you have to go and check do you know the rulings
[29:16]that apply to you here everyone they go and they do research
[29:21]with regards to the taxes with regards to driving instructions and all
[29:26]these things because when the cop pulls you over you can't tell
[29:29]the cop oh sorry i didn't know he's going to tell you
[29:31]you live here you're a citizen of this country then you need
[29:36]to know the laws not knowing is not an excuse on the
[29:40]day of judgment when someone says i don't know the angels will
[29:47]tell this person why didn't you go and learn we gave you
[29:50]the resources we gave you the the means to go and learn
[29:57]the angels will say why don't you go and learn so we
[30:01]have to learn we have to empower ourselves there are some people
[30:05]that don't know the simplest of things we pray every day there
[30:09]are some people still don't know how to pray one day one
[30:12]of the companions of imam sadak alaihissalam by the name of hamad
[30:18]bin isa imam sadiq tells him come and pray in front of
[30:21]me imam sadaq had an idea that this person was not praying
[30:28]correctly so he goes and he stands he prays in front of
[30:33]the imam and then the imam alaihissalam he says he says how
[30:46]ugly is it for a person who reaches the age of 60
[30:52]and 70 and this person can't pray one prayer correctly so the
[30:57]man hamad bin isa he says i felt the shame and the
[31:03]guilt i tell the imam i read the book of hares haris
[31:06]has a book on salah one of the companions of the imam
[31:10]imam alayhi salaam tells him no you're still you still have mistakes
[31:16]and then hamad bin isa he says the imam he stood in
[31:19]front of me and he began to pray in front of me
[31:22]the correct way and today the way that we pray if you
[31:26]follow someone an imam leading the jama'a prayer that was how the
[31:30]imam alayhi salam prayed and this is how our this is how
[31:32]we pray the way imam sadiq was describing to that person and
[31:37]that is the salah as well but the point is some people
[31:44]they reach an older age and they still don't know the simplest
[31:47]of things salah is wajib upon everyone you have to know salah
[31:49]in order to know the salah you have to know the wudu
[31:53]if your wudu has an error in it that means your salah
[31:57]needs to be repeated a lot of people once they become older
[32:00]once they're in their 40s and 50s they realize they were doing
[32:05]their without wrong go and learn how to do the go and
[32:09]learn the simplest of things some people simple issues we're not asking
[32:13]you to go and learn and of course it's not me who's
[32:17]asking this is your when you pray you're doing it for your
[32:19]own good when you anything that you do you're doing it for
[32:25]yourself some people the simplest of things i remember one of my
[32:29]family members who's a speaker he said one day i was speaking
[32:33]to the community and i said as i'm speaking i said you
[32:37]know alcohol is haram you know something like that he said as
[32:41]soon as i finished my lecture someone she came to me and
[32:45]she tells me say it what did you say she's from those
[32:48]who have you know lived here her whole life and was born
[32:53]here and she's an older lady she said what did you say
[32:56]told her i said alcohol is forbidden she says alcohol is forbidden
[33:02]my mom and i we always have a cup of wine after
[33:06]dinner now this to us it seems some for some people it's
[33:13]funny for some people it's sad for some people it's shocking but
[33:17]this is the reality of some people maybe right now you think
[33:21]it's funny but a hundred years from now your grandchildren can you
[33:24]guarantee that they're going to know these simple things this is why
[33:29]we need to be careful this is why we need to be
[33:32]educated this is why we need to give importance to studying and
[33:37]learning about our faith you don't have to go and become a
[33:41]hausa student learn the simple things the book of laws are online
[33:43]you could read it and know the laws that pertain to you
[33:48]one of the most successful minority communities in the united states is
[33:54]the jewish community and we have a lot to learn from the
[33:56]jewish community the jewish community were persecuted the jewish community faced a
[34:02]lot of bigotry and hate but they stood they valued what they
[34:09]believed in and they stood for it and they defended it and
[34:12]today in almost every single university in the united states there are
[34:18]programs dedicated for teaching judaism not to convert other people but just
[34:24]to raise awareness just to let people know about your faith your
[34:28]history your beliefs we don't find that with muslims we don't find
[34:32]there are programs in the universities or educational programs teaching people about
[34:37]their identity and about about their beliefs we have to educate ourselves
[34:45]we have to empower ourselves with knowledge this was the third point
[34:51]the fourth point my dear brothers and sisters in order for islam
[34:55]and the muslim community to survive in the west in the united
[35:03]states our lives and our mosques and our programs need to focus
[35:07]on the youth need to focus on the younger generation at the
[35:12]children and at the youth you need to focus on them because
[35:17]the parents the adults many of them they know about their religion
[35:21]they know about their faith no one's going to come and you
[35:24]know sweep them away and take them away from their faith but
[35:27]the youth face challenges every day is a challenge for them and
[35:33]we need to focus on the youth we need to invest in
[35:41]the youth imam he says on those who are young because they
[35:50]are the quickest to any good if you want to do anything
[35:54]good if you want to bring change to a community focus on
[35:56]the youth they're the ones who have the energy they're the ones
[35:59]who have the capability they're the ones who are able to bring
[36:02]change and another hadith imam al-qaeda imam he says he says the
[36:26]one rasool allah says the one who learns at a young age
[36:29]this is like engraving in the stone you come and you look
[36:35]at some stones some rocks that have engraving in them from a
[36:38]million years ago you could find it but then he says if
[36:44]you learn at an older age it's like writing in the water
[36:47]when you write something can you write something in the water it
[36:50]won't last that's it it's going to go away right away so
[36:53]focus on the youth try to learn when you're young and religion
[36:58]my dear brothers and sisters religion is not meant for the old
[37:02]people a lot of people they have the idea that yeah let
[37:04]me be religious when i'm 50 when i'm 60 when i'm 70
[37:08]80.
[37:08]that's when i become religious that's when i go to hajj that's
[37:10]when i change my life that's when i do all these things
[37:13]my dear brothers and sisters there's no guarantees is there a guarantee
[37:17]go to the cemetery if you believe that there's a guarantee go
[37:21]and look at the ages of those who are in the cemetery
[37:24]shaytaan the angel of death doesn't doesn't discriminate some people are young
[37:31]some people are old some people are just married some people are
[37:36]single some people are this and that focus prioritize what's important and
[37:44]if you begin with the youth then that change will come much
[37:51]faster and much quicker the fifth and final point my dear brothers
[37:56]and sisters is that we need to focus on spirituality and this
[38:03]country in this society the mindset is focused on materialistic satisfaction a
[38:10]lot of people think that they could buy their happiness they could
[38:13]buy their pleasure i'm depressed i'm sad i'm not feeling good i'll
[38:17]go and buy a new car i'll go to the mall and
[38:21]buy myself another five or six outfits and that's it but these
[38:25]things don't bring happiness these things they bring small short happiness and
[38:30]then it goes away immediately what brings real happiness and what will
[38:36]give you the faith and the energy and the motivation to continue
[38:40]your faith and your belief is the connection with allah when you're
[38:44]connected with god that is the best feel good thing that it's
[38:50]the best thing that could make you feel good and when you
[38:54]have that feeling then you'll surpass any challenges islamophobia becomes nothing because
[38:59]you have god if you have that faith and that spirituality all
[39:04]of the challenges that you face in life are going to be
[39:09]nothing we mentioned there are several types of sabr there's a there's
[39:18]patience to worship i have to be patient for the sake of
[39:22]worship for the sake of fasting i have to be patient and
[39:28]in masaya in the face of sinning and disobeying allah subhana ta'ala
[39:31]i need to be patient and then there's a sabra patience in
[39:36]times of catastrophes and calamities i need to be patient what gives
[39:41]me the fuel to help me become patient to helps me that
[39:47]helps me continue having my faith and my belief that is spirituality
[39:52]my dear brothers and sisters something that's lacking from many people something
[39:56]that's just this society and the materialistic mindset does not give it
[40:01]does not offer this mindset that is you know pushed by hollywood
[40:07]and by the media and by all of these entertainment industries it
[40:09]pushes you to go and buy money to go and buy things
[40:14]with your money and and use money that's that's all that focus
[40:17]is on but there's something missing and that's spirituality if you have
[40:23]that spirituality then you'll be able to survive any challenge that you
[40:28]face and spirituality is attained in the masjid spirituality is attained by
[40:33]taking a pause in your life sometimes our lives are running so
[40:39]fast you know we're on super speed pause think of what's important
[40:45]sit with yourself and recite dua sit and recite quran in the
[40:49]middle of the night these nights the nights of the month of
[40:52]ramadan when you wake up for sahur or before you sleep before
[40:56]you go to sleep do although and pray 2 raka's turkas it's
[41:00]not much read one page of the quran you can't read one
[41:05]page read half a page of the quran just do something feed
[41:09]yourself give yourself that spirituality that dose of spirituality that your soul
[41:15]and every person's soul is yearning for and longing for when you
[41:18]give yourself that spirituality then you will find that you will be
[41:25]able to endure all the challenges you will be able to face
[41:28]all of the struggles nothing will be difficult for you even if
[41:32]you're a minority within a minority it's not going to be difficult
[41:37]for you my dear brothers and sisters we ask allah subhanahu wa
[41:43]ta'ala to bless us all and make us from those who hold
[41:46]on to the faith and hold on to the rope of allah
[41:49]subhanahu ta'ala despite all the challenges and no one said faith is
[41:53]going to be easy no one said believing in allah and being
[41:57]a believer is going to be easy do people think they're going
[42:25]to be left they just say i believe and that's it they're
[42:27]not going to be tested no we're going to be tested ask
[42:31]allah to make that test be easy for you ask allah to
[42:36]help you endure that test allah [Music] [Music] [Laughter] muhammad
