[0:14]mustafa in our last lesson we shed light on verse 33 of
[1:00]surat al-baqarah we mentioned that we started with this series of lectures
[1:05]concerning adam alaihi salaam last year and we set the main focus
[1:10]right now our main goal is to shed light on the verses
[1:17]that speak about adam's disobedience what was that disobedience and how does
[1:22]it not contradict his infallibility nor the infallibility of other prophets we
[1:28]said in order to understand this point it's essential to look at
[1:32]what happened to adam alaihissalam before he approached the tree in the
[1:39]garden of his and what happened after by looking at what happened
[1:46]before and what happened after that incident and what happened when he
[1:50]actually approached the tree will have a good understanding of what did
[1:56]adam do and why he did it so we started off with
[2:02]what with verses in surat al-baqarah which mention how allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala
[2:08]planned on placing a caliph on earth the caliph obviously was and
[2:17]selected selected people from his progeny who were destined to be prophets
[2:23]or successors of prophets so when allah speaks about the caliph and
[2:30]placing a caliph on earth he's referring to who to adam and
[2:37]all the uh proofs of god subhanahu wata'ala from adam's time till
[2:45]the day of judgment we mentioned that allah wa'ta'ala revealed adam's superiority
[2:55]to the angels by revealing his knowledge we mentioned that allah taught
[3:04]adam the names of specific creations we mentioned what were those names
[3:10]we mentioned two traditions uh true traditions that the imams was regarding
[3:19]this issue according to one tradition he was taught the names of
[3:26]uh the proofs of god from the first proof being adam to
[3:33]the last proof a second tradition said that allah taught him the
[3:39]names of creations not only the proofs of god but the creations
[3:42]of god in this universe such as mountains volcanoes fires stones deserts
[3:48]etc and we mentioned that based on this interpretation wasn't merely taught
[3:58]the names or the nouns or the words pertaining to those creations
[4:03]rather he was taught secrets secrets and benefits that are derived or
[4:14]that stem from those creations bottom line is allah revealed adam's superiority
[4:21]to the angels through what through his knowledge so we shed light
[4:27]on verse 33 which said he said o adam informed them of
[4:35]their names then when he had informed them of their names he
[4:46]said did i not say to you that i surely know what
[4:50]is rabe in the heavens and the earth the unseen pertaining to
[4:53]the heavens meaning the skies and the earth we mentioned the relationship
[5:02]between between the word and between the names that adam alaihi salam
[5:08]was taught why would allah mention the fact that he knows uh
[5:13]all of the unseen whether it's an unseen pertaining to the heavens
[5:20]or an unseen pertaining to the earth everything for allah is witness
[5:27]by allah azzawajal so there is no unseen for god why would
[5:34]he mention we said because allah the angels to mention the names
[5:44]to inform him of the names of the creations that were displayed
[5:51]to them and the angels were not able to do so they
[5:56]didn't know what did they say you are exalted we do not
[6:04]know anything other than what you taught us whereas inform them of
[6:14]their names what did he do he actually informed them he informed
[6:17]the angels of what they did not know so he informed them
[6:24]of what was part of to the angels hence allah tells them
[6:42]he knows all of the unseen subhanallah the last point we mentioned
[6:52]the last point we mentioned last week is that there's another um
[6:58]meaning we can derive from and that meaning is what that meaning
[7:10]is that meaning is allah knows everything his knowledge is unlimited as
[7:23]a result the angels in fact all creations must trust in allah's
[7:33]decisions sometimes allah might decide on doing something that we might not
[7:38]understand in fact we might kind of question what allah did we
[7:46]might ask ourselves why would allah do this right when he reminds
[7:52]us that he is that he knows all of the unseen indirectly
[7:57]he's reminding us that everything he does has a wisdom behind it
[8:02]whether we know the wisdom or not if we look at the
[8:08]dialogue that allah had with the angels before bringing adam down to
[8:16]earth when he told them will understand that uh will understand that
[8:25]allah [Music] he is indirectly telling the angels and telling us that
[8:39]there is wisdom behind the existence of every human being even if
[8:44]that human being turns out to be evil allah created adam and
[8:52]his progeny and he knew that some of them will be kophar
[8:55]will be disbelievers he knew some of them will be for they
[9:00]will be disobedient and they won't care about god's laws subhana even
[9:05]then he created them with the intention of what with the intention
[9:12]of uh guiding them of bringing out the true potential that lies
[9:16]within the human beings the potential we shall mention today in sha
[9:22]allah wanted everyone to be good but unfortunately some humans in fact
[9:29]many humans choose to turn evil hence one might ask why would
[9:36]he create them subhana wa when he says he's reminding the angels
[9:45]and reminding us that there is a wisdom there is a wisdom
[9:48]we might not know the wisdom at the moment we might not
[9:51]know it at the moment but there is a wisdom we should
[9:56]have trust in the almighty for surely he is wise he is
[10:00]the all wise and one who is all wise always has a
[10:06]wise reason behind his action in better terms whenever the all-wise does
[10:11]a particular deed there is definitely a good reason a wise reason
[10:17]behind that action or that all of this was mentioned last week
[10:23]now inshaallah will continue with uh verse 33 and inshallah enter verse
[10:28]34 of surah [Music] did i not say to you that i
[10:48]surely know what is rave in the heavens and the earth and
[10:51]that i know what you manifest and what you hide so for
[10:57]allah as we said last week there is no difference between uh
[11:02]there is there is no unseen the actions that we reveal through
[11:12]our tongues or our uh body parts are witnessed by god just
[11:17]as the actions that we hide from people such as actions we
[11:23]commit through our souls not through our bodies uh those actions are
[11:29]also witnessed by god so allah witnesses the actions that we the
[11:34]words that we utter and the actions that we physically practice just
[11:42]as he witnesses the actions that we hide such as the actions
[11:47]performed by our soul you might ask what kind of actions are
[11:52]performed by the soul think of uh metaphysical actions like hating and
[12:01]loving hate and love that's an action performed by what by the
[12:05]by the heart meaning the the soul of the human yes when
[12:10]you love someone your love will be expressed through your words for
[12:16]example you tell him i love you right or through your actions
[12:20]you'll bring him flowers you'll make sure to behave in a way
[12:23]that satisfies that person or makes them happy but ultimately love the
[12:29]love that you have for that person lies where in your heart
[12:31]that's an action done by the soul the same applies to hating
[12:39]the same applies to feeling envy feeling envy towards someone or holding
[12:46]a grudge against someone or believing in a particular idea believing in
[12:54]allah believing in all of that all of these actions are actions
[13:00]of the soul yes they may be translated through your actions through
[13:05]your physical actions and your words but ultimately they're essentially their actions
[13:11]of the soul so when he says he's reminding the angels he's
[13:22]reminding the angels that ultimately everything is uh everything is witnessed by
[13:34]him everything is witnessed by god however a question comes to mind
[13:42]here is allah subhanahu wa when he says i know what you
[13:47]manifest all my angels and what you used to conceal is he
[13:55]referring to a specific deed that the angels revealed and a specific
[14:01]deed that the angels concealed or not that's a question the mufasirin
[14:08]the commentators on the holy quran said that yes he is referring
[14:16]subhanahu wa to a specific deed that was manifested by the angels
[14:25]and a specific deed which was concealed by the angels what are
[14:29]those deeds let us look at what the mufasserian say for example
[14:36]here you have uh he says that when allah says i know
[14:49]what you reveal he's saying what you said when you said will
[14:54]you place in it a creation who will cause corruption in it
[14:59]so when he says he is referring to what the angels said
[15:03]when they asked allah subhanahu wa tahana are you going to place
[15:12]on earth someone who will cause corruption and shed blood this was
[15:17]uttered by the angels so was a deed that they manifested what
[15:21]was the deed that they concealed or that a specific somebody amongst
[15:30]the angels concealed says when he says uh sorry when he says
[15:40]and i know what you used to conceal he is referring to
[15:46]iblis shaitaan may allah curse him he's referring to what iblis had
[15:50]concealed what did he conceal he concealed his intention on disobeying allah
[16:00]shaitaan before being ordered by allah to prostrate for adam had already
[16:11]made his intention as we shall see when we read the traditions
[16:17]so the traditions of alabama confirmed this point shaitaan had already set
[16:22]his intention he had told himself if allah commands me to prostrate
[16:31]for adam i will not do so the intention was set before
[16:36]the test was actually presented before the command of god subhanallah was
[16:45]presented to the angels here you might say you might say but
[16:56]the ibis is not in an angel was a jinn he was
[17:07]a jinn but he was amongst the angels so being amongst them
[17:14]being amongst them when allah commanded the angels to prostrate for adam
[17:20]that command was also directed to him so he was amongst the
[17:28]angels he was considered to be one of them when he was
[17:32]not really an angel rather he was in let me give you
[17:40]a slight example a small example before we continue take the example
[17:48]of a group of believers who are friends these friends hang out
[17:53]with each other day and night and they have a friend with
[18:01]them who's a disbeliever so you have a group of believers who
[18:05]have a friend who's a disbeliever and all of them hang out
[18:09]with each other ultimately they consider that disbeliever to be one of
[18:15]them right he's a friend of theirs and they are friends of
[18:19]his so they consider themselves to be one group but in reality
[18:22]they're not one group these are believers who will enter heaven on
[18:27]the day of judgment and that individual is a disbeliever who will
[18:31]enter hell fire if he persists at what at disbelieving until he
[18:36]dies so although they consider him to be part of them part
[18:42]of their group in reality he's not that was the case for
[18:50]iblis he was amongst the angels but was not a true angel
[18:54]he was a jinn the author of al-amsan tafsir al-amfan he says
[19:13]that some commentators said that the thing the angels were concealing was
[19:18]the pride of iblis so this is a a um an interpretation
[19:28]that's similar it's similar to what shaykh tabarashi said it's not the
[19:33]same but somewhat similar they say it was the pride of iblis
[19:38]again because he was amongst the angels and he was concealing his
[19:44]pride allah told the angels he addressed them and informed them that
[19:48]there was something they were what they were hiding obviously he's not
[19:52]he doesn't mean to say subhana wa ta'ala based on its interpretation
[19:57]that all of them were hiding something no he's addressing all of
[20:01]them but allah in reality is pointing to one of them a
[20:10]second or a third interpretation this is also found in tafsir is
[20:15]that uh he says possibly it is the belief the angels held
[20:20]which was that they were more worthy of being gods called gods
[20:27]caliphs on earth the angels thought that they were more worthy of
[20:35]being caliphs allah's representatives on earth until of course adam's superiority was
[20:39]manifested to them so possibly allah is referring to that belief as
[20:46]well when he says do we have a question before i move
[21:02]on no questions before we delve into verse 34 of surah al-baqarah
[21:24]let us read a few traditions that tell us exactly what happened
[21:31]before uh the angels were commanded to prostrate for adam and what
[21:38]happened when they were commanded to prostrate for adam let me copy
[21:44]the tradition for you and paste it in the uh chat section
[21:51]and then we'll read it together this tradition is [Music] of imam
[22:54]al-sadr says imam sadiq was asked a question he was asked about
[23:02]allah's message and allah's commands obviously when allah presents commands in the
[23:12]quran or through rasulullah these commands are directed towards the believers correct
[23:19]towards the muslims the question is are those commands also directed towards
[23:25]disbelievers people who are not muslim for example are those commands also
[23:35]directed towards towards hypocrites people who reveal that they're muslim when in
[23:40]reality they're not that was the question that was posed to imam
[23:47]assad the person asking the question asked the imam about allah's commands
[24:04]he said that are his commands directed at those who are misguided
[24:11]or not imam sadiq answered directs his commands to those who are
[24:24]misguided in fact he directs his commands towards the disbelievers as well
[24:31]so when allah says for example in the holy quran when he
[24:36]says uphold prayer it's a command directed at everyone at muslims and
[24:44]non-muslims even non-muslims are responsible of praying yes in order to pray
[24:52]they need to do what they need to become muslim once they
[24:57]become muslim then they'll they'll start praying correct and the view the
[25:07]beautiful thing is when they actually become muslim um they won't be
[25:14]required of performing for all the years they have not prayed so
[25:18]they won't have to make up all the salawat that they missed
[25:22]however the known shia belief the known belief amongst our scholars is
[25:30]that the commands of god subhanahu wata'ala in the holy quran or
[25:37]the traditions of these commands pertain to everyone they're directed at everyone
[25:41]this tradition might be used to support this belief imam salvik is
[25:47]saying yes allah's commands are directed at those who are misguided in
[25:53]fact they're directed at the kuffar as well at the disbelievers then
[25:57]imam assad alaihissalam mentioned ibis's issue to clarify how allah might command
[26:08]a non-believer commanded the angels to prostrate for adam now when he
[26:38]commanded them to prostrate for adam that command was directed at who
[26:40]at the angels and at iblis then he said with the angels
[27:06]in the sky and he would worship allah subhanahu wa he was
[27:12]part of the group of the angels now in a bit will
[27:17]understand what the imam means to say when he says he's part
[27:20]of the group of the angels he says the angels assumed they
[27:27]used to assume that iblis is one of them however he wasn't
[27:32]really the angels to prostrate for adam this command the command of
[27:55]allah brought out the envy which lied in iblis's heart which lied
[28:02]in iblis's soul based on this tradition we can understand that shaitaan
[28:08]was not only afflicted with kiber he wasn't only afflicted with pride
[28:15]this is something known right we all know that he was afflicted
[28:18]with arrogance and pride imam sadiq says he was afflicted with hassan
[28:24]with envy he envied adam iblees iblisa's envy was revealed the angels
[28:50]at that point knew that iblis was not one of them so
[28:56]they realized that he wasn't an angel he was amongst the angels
[29:02]but he wasn't one of them here the imam was asked a
[29:09]question before i mention the second question which was answered the imam
[29:14]al-salam we need to understand why imam sadiq is mentioning this imam
[29:17]salvik is mentioning the issue of iblis in order to clarify how
[29:23]allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala might present a command in the holy quran which
[29:28]is directed at believers hypocrites and disbelievers it has you think about
[29:34]the command pertaining to prostrating for adam it was directed at believers
[29:42]such as the angels and it was directed towards a disbeliever which
[29:48]was iblis so just as that happened before it can happen now
[29:55]that's what the imam is trying to say now he was asked
[30:01]a question he was asked um how was allah's command directed at
[30:19]iblees when allah solely commanded the angels to prostrate frat realize when
[30:25]you read the quran does allah say for example he doesn't right
[30:32]by the way his his name is according to traditions iblis is
[30:38]a title his name is nonetheless he doesn't say that allah addresses
[30:45]the angels so here it seems that the the person asking the
[30:50]imam alayhi salaam hadn't yet digested this issue that allah commanded iblees
[30:57]to prostrate when he directed his command at the angels so the
[31:03]imam went on explaining further he said [Music] he told him that
[31:22]iblis was not an actual angel he wasn't an angel but he
[31:29]was treated like an angel he was treated like an angel by
[31:39]allah so it's as if allah tells iblees i understand and i
[31:48]know that you are amongst my angels since you are amongst them
[31:51]since you are amongst these great creations and you worship me like
[31:56]them then the commands i direct to my angels are also directed
[32:03]to you so he wasn't a real angel rather he was living
[32:08]amongst them and allah considered that the rulings or the laws that
[32:19]apply to the angels apply to iblis as well at least some
[32:23]laws at least some laws he said allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala created certain
[32:48]creations before adam and iblees was amongst them in fact he was
[32:54]their chief he was the ruler amongst them where were they residing
[32:58]the imam says falado they were on earth i believe most of
[33:05]you if not all know by now that our traditions confirm the
[33:09]existence of creations before adam adam was not the first creation to
[33:17]come down to earth there were creations living on earth before adam
[33:22]this is wide and clear in the traditions of it and it
[33:28]goes hand in hand with what with what modern science says when
[33:32]it tells you that there were certain creations yes uh before adam
[33:39]before human beings and that the earth existed before human beings i'm
[33:52]not saying that we confirm the theory of evolution no that's not
[33:56]what i'm saying but i'm saying that these traditions go hand in
[34:04]hand with the scientific facts indicating that the earth existed for a
[34:10]long time before human beings existed and the scientific facts indicating that
[34:14]there are creations or beings who existed before humans nonetheless so iblis
[34:23]was what he was the hakim he was the ruler over these
[34:26]creations on earth what did they do the imam says those creations
[34:33]uh they became arrogant and they caused corruption and they shed blood
[34:40]subhanallah just as human beings do later on angels what did they
[35:07]do they killed the the the creations who were causing mischief who
[35:11]were causing corruption and who were shedding blood so basically they purified
[35:15]the earth for god subhanallah but iblis had not become corrupt yet
[35:20]so what did the angels do they captured him and they took
[35:28]him to the sky so um he says when the angels took
[35:46]iblis to the sky he would worship allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala with the
[35:51]angels and he maintained that state until allah created adam so we
[35:59]understand from this tradition that number one iblis was not a real
[36:04]angel yes angels considered him to be part of them and they
[36:09]thought that he was allah clarified for them that he wasn't a
[36:14]real angel when he was tested and they were tested with adam
[36:21]and when iblees envy towards adam was manifested in reality he was
[36:27]a jinn who was good he was worshiping allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala but
[36:31]at a certain point he turned evil may allah curse him any
[36:39]questions actually we have one here by brother ahmed why doesn't allah
[36:46]make the devil suffer and die his death is pacified he will
[36:56]die but allah subhanahu wa allah granted him a long life and
[37:02]he shaitan when he was cursed by allah he asked allah azzawajal
[37:11]to grant him respite to delay his punishment until the day of
[37:16]resurrection allah answered his call but he told him that you won't
[37:23]be delayed till the day of resurrection rather you'll be delayed to
[37:28]a specific time he said so allah mentioning the the meaning of
[37:43]the the verses if if this is not the exact wording so
[37:51]he granted him respite until the day of the specified time which
[37:59]means he dies before the day of resurrection even then allah granted
[38:06]him a long life why in a bit inshallah we're going to
[38:09]see in a bit we're going to read a tradition which will
[38:13]explain why allah granted him a long life why doesn't he make
[38:21]him suffer who said he doesn't suffer he's living right now but
[38:26]it doesn't mean that his life is you know the best types
[38:30]of life and that he doesn't suffer on the contrary shaitaan does
[38:35]feel pain even when he's living right now and he does suffer
[38:40]especially when he sees the likes of you worshiping allah subhanahu wa
[38:44]when he sees us praying he gets really disturbed this is based
[38:50]on a hadith not based on my own opinions a hadith tell
[38:57]us that when we pray he gets very disturbed and when we
[39:00]do sujood when we prostrate for allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala he feels a
[39:05]lot of pain a lot of pain similarly when we fast when
[39:10]we pay sadaqah when we pay charity and when we do other
[39:14]forms of good deeds all of these good deeds actually hurt him
[39:17]if you want i'll bring you a tradition uh maybe next week
[39:23]or the weeks after mentioning this issue we have a beautiful tradition
[39:29]that mentions what fasting does to him what paying charity does to
[39:33]him what for example certain forms of good deeds do to him
[39:37]etc so even though he's living it doesn't mean he's not suffering
[39:42]yes he he is definitely enjoying his time or let's say part
[39:48]of his time but there is also um there is also suffering
[39:54]he does experience an amount of of suffer an amount of suffering
[40:10]other questions but the second tradition we want to read today is
[40:34]also in bihar anwar and alain as you see again cites the
[40:39]book let me just copy and paste the tradition for you me
[41:06]it is mentioned that i think the first part of the tradition
[41:14]was not copied hold on one second let me copy it again
[41:22]uh actually i have a question yes it's regarding allah so i
[41:27]asked my mom every time uh this question and she doesn't really
[41:33]know okay i asked her um why does allah make us live
[41:36]if he already knows what's going to happen in the future why
[41:40]does allah make us live when he knows what's what's going to
[41:44]happen in the future yes that's a deep question it's a very
[41:52]deep question um let me try to answer it quickly um yeah
[41:58]firstly firstly even if he knows what's going to happen no one
[42:04]said that he was testing us subhanahu wata'ala to find out whether
[42:09]we'll be good people or bad people he already knows but is
[42:18]a merciful lord and he is the all-generous he loves giving so
[42:26]he decreed he decided to give all humans the chance to become
[42:34]impeccable creations every human being has a lot of potential in him
[42:42]or her each human being has the potential to become god's greatest
[42:46]creation how do we know this from surah allah says surely those
[43:01]who believe and perform good deeds are the best of god's creations
[43:06]realize they didn't say they're the best of people they're the best
[43:11]of god's creations so the human beings who believe in allah who
[43:16]believe in the day of judgment who believe in the truth and
[43:20]implement the excuse me they implement that belief they actually obey allah
[43:25]refrain from disobedience those people reach a point in which they exceed
[43:31]the angels and all other creations and all other creations so allah
[43:40]gives every human being the potential sorry the chance the chance to
[43:50]actually reach that position this is one main reason why he tests
[43:56]us in this world because the only way to reach that position
[44:00]is by being tested in this world you cannot reach that position
[44:06]you cannot reach a position in which you're higher than the angels
[44:10]unless you're tested here unless you're tested through your desire and your
[44:18]anger through different temptations etc for when he puts us through the
[44:25]test it's not to know whether we'll be good or bad because
[44:27]he already knows the outcome of this task rather it's to give
[44:31]us the chance to reach that point here one will say but
[44:39]if he already knows what's gonna happen doesn't that mean that we're
[44:46]all forced into being good or bad people we say no it
[44:49]doesn't mean that because he knows and i hope you're paying close
[44:55]attention he knows what's going to happen based on our free will
[44:59]based on the choices we will take so allah decrees that he
[45:05]will give every joe harry moussa issa jafar larry to go to
[45:12]give every human being free will now that human will have the
[45:19]option of using his free will correctly or using it incorrectly as
[45:28]in he'll have the option of following the right path and being
[45:32]a good human being or following the wrong path and being an
[45:37]evil a human being here allah subhanahu wa ta'ala have one ah
[45:42]nothing i was just saying yes here allah cannot be blamed for
[45:47]the human being's actions he can't be blamed because ultimately allah shows
[45:53]him the way he shows him the way and gives him countless
[45:58]chances to be good he brings down profits divine books he places
[46:09]different reminders here and there to keep us awake and to wake
[46:16]us up before it is too late such as for example graves
[46:20]the graves of believers or disbelievers are a reminder that o people
[46:26]you're going to die and once you die you will meet your
[46:29]lord are you ready such as for example the different incidents of
[46:35]death that takes place you know every once in a while you
[46:42]hear and nalallah you hear that x y and z passed away
[46:46]x y and z passed away these are reminders by allah it's
[46:51]like a phone call that melakil mouth is sending us telling us
[46:56]remember your time is coming as well it's only a matter of
[47:02]time it's only a matter of time before all of you leave
[47:04]so allah grants people different chances and he gives them uh multiple
[47:15]sources of guidance prophets imams divine books scholars etc all of that
[47:23]for what all of that for the sake of guiding the human
[47:27]being even then allah tells the human being tells him what he
[47:31]doesn't listen even if you act incorrectly even if you disobey me
[47:43]for 20 30 40 50 years i'm ready to accept you as
[47:48]long as you turn to me before it's too late look at
[47:54]the mercy of god he tells you subhana even if you've committed
[47:58]all the sins in the book i'm ready to accept you but
[48:06]you must repent you must repent before it is too late what
[48:11]kind of mercy is that it is the mercy of the all-merciful
[48:20]subhana yes we can't misuse his mercy we can't take advantage of
[48:24]it by saying if that's the case then all sin day and
[48:28]night and inshallah before death all repent you can't do that why
[48:33]because number one we don't know when we're going to die right
[48:36]death is unknown we don't know when it's going to happen the
[48:40]time of death is unknown possibly we might die in a minute
[48:44]or an hour or in 20 years we don't know so it's
[48:49]kind of foolish to say you know what all uh have fun
[48:53]right now unlawful fun until you know the time of death comes
[48:58]then i'll repent we can't fool allah grants us the chance to
[49:08]come back to him at any point as long as we come
[49:11]back to him before it's too late as long as we come
[49:15]back to him before our time is up however however sins have
[49:22]an effect on the human being's soul sometimes a person might sin
[49:28]so much or might commit one grave sin that's so grave he'll
[49:35]completely contaminate his soul his soul will be drenched in spiritual pollution
[49:42]as a result will happen when that happens when that happens the
[49:50]person will never return to god subhanallah they'll never return to the
[49:55]path of goodness so if we keep these points in mind we'll
[49:59]understand that yes allah's mercy is impeccable it's wider than all things
[50:10]as the quran says but we can't misuse or take advantage of
[50:16]his mercy so to summarize the answer and as i told your
[50:19]question is quite deep it requires at least one lecture if not
[50:22]a series of lectures if we remember the following points then we'll
[50:28]understand why allah created us and why he's testing us even though
[50:33]he knows the result we said number one he created us so
[50:41]that we reach a very high position a position higher than the
[50:45]positions of the angels and he wants to give every human being
[50:52]whether it's a he or a she whether he's white or black
[50:57]or yellow or red he wants to give every human being that
[51:01]chance secondly he grants us free will he doesn't oblige us to
[51:10]sin on the contrary he aids us in obeying him but he
[51:15]doesn't aid us in sinning thirdly he granted us countless chances to
[51:23]return to him before it's too late fourthly he granted us multiple
[51:29]sources of of uh guidance to ensure that the human being does
[51:33]not have an excuse on a day of judgment when allah tells
[51:36]them why did you deviate why didn't you follow my path after
[51:40]understanding all these points we can understand that ultimately those who end
[51:47]up in hell fire they end up in hell fire because of
[51:54]their own sins and their own wrong decisions it's because of them
[51:58]and this is actually confirmed in the quran the quran speaks about
[52:03]the dwellers of hellfire allah tells you that they admit it was
[52:10]their fault for example in surat what do the dwellers of hellfire
[52:15]say they say they say if we actually would hear the message
[52:40]of god by hearing the message they they mean if we actually
[52:45]gave our ears to the prophets or to the imams and accepted
[52:50]what they said or had we been people who made use of
[52:56]their intellects we wouldn't be from the dwellers of hellfire so they
[53:05]realized it was their fault had they actually heard what the prophets
[53:11]or the imams said or had they used their intellects they wouldn't
[53:17]be in hell fight they don't say uh it's your fault ya
[53:22]allah because they understand it's their fault but this is one short
[53:26]answer regarding your question uh again there are multiple answers to um
[53:34]to that specific question but i think for for today that should
[53:39]be enough inshallah what do you think we have another question here
[53:49]from brother ali what sin is so bad that it prevents repentance
[53:55]that's also an interesting question and a deep one too uh we
[54:00]don't have much time left in fact our time is up but
[54:05]i'll i'll conclude with this one question inshallah next week will read
[54:09]the the second hadith that i pasted on the chat section and
[54:17]will uh we'll start with verse 34 of surah baqarah insha allah
[54:24]whenever a person sins whenever a person sins he shouldn't lose hope
[54:29]in god there is no sin there is no sin that is
[54:36]greater than allah or that is that cannot be forgiven by allah
[54:50]azzawajal so whenever we sin whenever we disobey allah whether we're committing
[54:54]what we call a minor sin or a major sin we shouldn't
[55:01]lose hope there's a a long story which i'll summarize which says
[55:06]there was a man who was eating during the month of sha
[55:08]ramadan he was eating during the month of ramadan meaning during day
[55:18]time so someone saw him and he had a discussion with him
[55:22]why are you eating during the month of ramadan um long story
[55:25]short he told him the likes of me are destined for hellfire
[55:31]whatever i may do i cannot save myself so there's no point
[55:37]in fasting anymore why it seemed this person was hopeless long story
[55:41]short he told them on one specific night this man was living
[55:47]during harun abbasi's time and during imam al-qaeda's time he said one
[55:54]night harun abbasi summoned me and he sent me to um a
[56:03]prison or a dungeon so i went to the president and or
[56:07]the dungeon and on that night i was commanded to kill 60
[56:13]people who were sad sixty halloween sixty men who were from the
[56:19]progeny of ali and fatima so i killed each one of them
[56:26]i killed sixty sadder in one night hence this man says the
[56:30]man who's eating during the during the month of ramadan he says
[56:32]the lives of me won't be forgiven i am destined for a
[56:38]hellfire this story was taken to who to imam his story what
[56:48]did he say i'm paraphrasing the tradition but this is the meaning
[56:51]of the tradition he said that the yes the hopelessness that this
[56:59]man is feeling is worse or more grief than killing the 60
[57:09]sata in one night imagine how grave is it to kill a
[57:14]human being let alone killing someone who is a saeed who's who's
[57:18]from the progeny of ali even then the the imam says this
[57:25]yes this hopelessness the sense of hopelessness that the person is feeling
[57:29]that the person is feeling uh is worse than killing those sixty
[57:35]sada in one right or more grave than killing those sixty sixties
[57:42]that tells you a lot regarding losing hope in god indeed it's
[57:46]one of the major sins one of the deadly and major sins
[57:51]in the book it's a deadly sin that the shaitaan tries to
[57:55]lure us into because when he makes you believe that you can
[58:04]never be forgiven that allah will never forgive you whatever you may
[58:08]do he'll be indirectly convincing you into sinning as much as you
[58:19]want why because when you believe that whatever you may do you
[58:22]won't be forgiven you won't be uh saved from hell fire as
[58:30]shaitan himself will place the following thought in your head since you're
[58:35]destined for hellfire then you might as well have as much unlawful
[58:41]fun as possible before you die number one we should remember that
[58:48]although our sins are great allah ta'ala allah's essence and allah's mercy
[58:56]is greater and if our sins are abundant in number his mercy
[59:06]subhanallah is also greater and it is wider than our sins it
[59:11]can encompass all of our sins that's one this is the first
[59:15]part of the answer second part of the answer is yes there
[59:19]are certain sins that if a person commits them he will lose
[59:26]his chance of repenting what do we mean by this what do
[59:32]the traditions they tell you that there are certain sins if committed
[59:38]the person won't be able to repent from those sins such as
[59:43]killing a prophet or killing the successor of a prophet we have
[59:48]a tradition about this that if a person kills a prophet or
[59:52]his successor he will not be uh able to repent we can
[59:59]understand from the tradition that the imam is saying when a person
[60:04]gets to the point where he kills a prophet but your screen
[60:12]glitch like it stopped okay can you still hear me yes okay
[60:17]so when a person kills a prophet or a successor of a
[60:28]prophet he has already reached a point in which he's so sunk
[60:33]into sins that he'll never come back ultimately killing prophets is not
[60:40]a game killing successors like amir it's not a game so when
[60:48]i actually reach a point where i kill the prophet or i
[60:55]killed the imam or i killed a successor that means i'm already
[61:01]drenched in sin to the point i'll never come back to god
[61:03]subhana thus if you see certain traditions indicating that you know yazid
[61:12]may allah curse him kind of felt guilty for what he did
[61:18]no that yazid was only pretending as he did not feel any
[61:25]guilt for what he had done he did not feel guilty for
[61:30]killing the imam ali the same applies to you know for example
[61:37]when he cries in front of sayida zainab on the day of
[61:43]ashura minutes or seconds before imam and hussain is killed on islam
[61:46]minutes or seconds what does he do he cries in front of
[61:51]sayyidah zainab what a soft heart who tells the the the soldiers
[61:59]of yazid to go and finish the imam alaihis himself so what
[62:06]are those tears they're tears of hypocrisy not real tears so bottom
[62:12]line is yes there are certain sins like killing a prophet or
[62:16]a successor of a prophet and other sins mentioned in the traditions
[62:23]of that will deprive a person from repentance but as i told
[62:30]you this is what we can understand from the traditions that if
[62:34]a person actually commits those sins it means he reached a point
[62:38]where he is uh so drenched into sin he'll never return to
[62:43]allah in general in general keep the following verse in mind say
[62:57]allah tells the prophet ya rasulallah address my slaves and tell them
[63:02]allah is telling you o my slaves who have crossed their limits
[63:10]and done injustice to themselves allah is the all-forgiving and the all-merciful
[63:32]the commentators on this verse especially they mentioned that here allah is
[63:42]referring to repentance he is telling you if you repent then i'm
[63:46]ready to forgive everything i'm ready to wipe out all of your
[63:52]sins but you have to come back to me before it's to
[63:59]me there is a lecture if you'd like that i can send
[64:05]you uh on youtube regarding this verse and um its meaning uh
[64:10]in it the the lecture dissects the verse thoroughly if you'd like
[64:18]to uh hear it in sha allah so if we see ourselves
[64:24]committing sin falling into sins never should we lose hope in allah
[64:28]but again let's not fool ourselves or take advantage of allah's mercy
[64:35]because ultimately you can't fool allah as imam ali says you can't
[64:40]fool allah and some somehow you know trick him and enter heaven
[64:46]on a day of judgment that does not happen uh whatsoever i
[64:52]have a question yes how do you stop the habit of like
[64:56]um listening to music or uh cussing or something listening to music
[65:05]or uh swearing yes yani um just give me one second uh
[65:12]say it will cut here sent the question before yours uh can
[65:14]you please tell us which surah and verse are we are going
[65:17]to recite next week for the recitation say it now we're going
[65:21]to recite verse 200 we're going to start with with verse 231
[65:28]of okay i'm not sure where we're going to stop because it
[65:31]depends on how many students we have but we'll definitely be reading
[65:36]at least two pages from that surah two or three pages inshallah
[65:42]starting with with verse 231 okay concerning listening to music understanding the
[66:03]the danger of listening to music what dangers does it hold what
[66:08]are you doing to yourself when when you're actually listening to music
[66:11]helps in in refraining from it also if you'd like there is
[66:16]a lecture about the danger of listening to songs or music i
[66:19]can send you the lecture so you can hear it out insha
[66:21]allah you can hear it and hopefully it will help you stop
[66:25]that habit uh not you but it will help the person stop
[66:28]that habit uh secondly what helps in this po in this regard
[66:32]is listening to something lawful all of us like to listen to
[66:38]something that soothes our ears now there are unlawful sounds like music
[66:42]and songs and then again there are lawful sounds like quran recitation
[66:51]or certain latmiyat right certain not me yet i'm not saying all
[66:55]of me yet but certainly yes they are definitely lawful or certain
[67:00]mawalid again not all mawali but certain or for example listening to
[67:07]dwaras etc um listening to ahaza majalis all of those um [Music]
[67:21]are lawful and you'll be hearing a melody when you're listening to
[67:31]quran recitation or to aza or to allah or to it a
[67:34]melody that is so that will insha allah help you refrain from
[67:38]the unlawful melodies and the unlawful sounds concerning swearing to be honest
[67:50]understanding also that every word you say is recorded by the angels
[67:55]and is present to allah understanding the dangers of having a having
[68:06]a you know filthy tongue that also helps in uh refraining from
[68:13]that deep on top of that instead of you know swearing or
[68:18]insulting people or saying vulgar words change the words into words that
[68:24]will actually give you hassanat for example when you let's say your
[68:30]cell phone falls down instead of saying a vulgar word say methane
[68:37]right you'll get a hasanah you mention allah when you see something
[68:43]nice something that amazes you instead of saying something and instead of
[68:46]saying a bad word say subhanallah masha'allah right so basically take the
[68:59]habit of changing uh your words again not you but the person
[69:03]let him take the habit of changing his words uh changing the
[69:08]bad words into actually good words into good words with time you
[69:17]will master that habit you will master that action insha allah all
[69:30]right we'll conclude our lesson for today as we said last uh
[69:34]next week inshallah we'll read the second tradition that we posted and
[69:39]we'll continue with with verse or actually we'll delve into verse 34
[69:43]of surah al-baqarah alhamdulillah okay no problem
