[0:28]um in our last lesson we completed the tradition of imam and
[1:03]hassan in which he mentions a dialogue that took place between rasulallah
[1:09]and a group of jews and how he was asked about our
[1:14]fast meaning fast in the month of ramadan and the effects of
[1:21]fasting the month of ramadan we spoke about the seven effects of
[1:26]fasting that holy month in detail then we touched upon uh several
[1:33]points regarding the verse we mentioned that in surat al-baqarah allah subhanahu
[1:44]wa when speaking about adam's story he mentions that he commanded adam
[1:51]and eve and shaytan according to certain interpretations to come down but
[1:59]what's interesting is the command was mentioned twice and he said in
[2:09]another verse why would he mention the command to descend from the
[2:16]garden twice we mentioned multiple reasons or let's say multiple possibilities multiple
[2:25]possibilities finally uh the last point or one of the last points
[2:30]we mentioned was the difference between adam's descent and iblis's descent see
[2:36]both of them were told to come down right both of them
[2:39]were told to come down from the garden to earth but one
[2:44]cannot compare adam alaihissalam and vice versa as for iblis to come
[2:52]down to earth to come down from that gordon ultimately his descent
[2:58]is a descent based on what based on based on allah's hatred
[3:06]towards him allah hates him allah detests him due to his own
[3:14]deed due to his own crime or crimes so he came down
[3:17]from the garden he was told to come down from the gordon
[3:22]because allah subhanahu wa tests him whereas he was told to come
[3:26]down from the garden not because allah detested him on the contrary
[3:31]allah loved adam salam and allah azzawajal had chosen adam to be
[3:38]his caliph on earth meaning his representative on earth and the proof
[3:44]of god azer ate from the tree allah did what he selected
[3:54]him so it was a second selection or a second form of
[4:01]selection bestowed upon adam salaam finally when he came down to earth
[4:04]he was the proof of god subhanallah over who over eve and
[4:12]over his children who were going to come into this world sooner
[4:17]or later so adam was not detested by god allah didn't detest
[4:23]him nor hate him so why did he come down we said
[4:25]last week if you remember and also in previous classes he had
[4:30]to come down due to the changes that occurred in his body
[4:34]due to the changes that occurred in his body it was a
[4:39]must for him to come down uh in short after eating from
[4:42]the tree adam alaihissalam certain changes happened to him and to eve
[4:50]peace be upon them both and they had needs and the these
[4:56]needs could not be fulfilled unless they come they came down to
[5:03]this world all of this was mentioned last week today inshallah we
[5:07]want to shed more light on the verse and we also want
[5:21]to read an interesting tradition found regarding an angel who was adam's
[5:31]friend alaihim assalam and if we have enough time we're going to
[5:35]also shed light on the verse after which i believe is verse
[5:42]39 if i'm not mistaken yes verse 39 of surat we'll see
[5:50]how much verses or segments of verses we can cover tonight first
[5:57]of all let's go back to the holy verse and re-read the
[6:04]arabic and english translation of the verse so we may continue explaining
[6:11]it there will come to you a guidance from me then whoever
[6:38]follows my guidance no fear shall come upon them nor shall they
[6:44]grieve if we want a more specific or a more precise translation
[6:51]um we would say instead of saying there will come to you
[6:57]a guidance the translation should be if there comes to you a
[7:03]guidance from me because imma the word imma means if it's the
[7:10]word in and the word in means if the word ma is
[7:14]what we call they they consider it to be an additional word
[7:20]what's its purpose it is to strengthen the meaning of in so
[7:24]it's to strengthen that condition now when allah says if there comes
[7:32]to you a guidance from me this doesn't imply that guidance will
[7:36]not come from god on the contrary guidance will come from allah
[7:42]azzawajal but allah is saying that once guidance reaches you once guidance
[7:47]reaches you o people then know that only those who follow my
[7:56]guidance will be saved what does that mean this means it's possible
[8:03]to have to have guidance from allah on earth yet you don't
[8:09]have much people following it there could be a religion of truth
[8:15]in fact there is at all times there is a religion of
[8:20]truth which is the religion of god subhanahu wata'ala uh there is
[8:25]a religion of truth the religion of god subhanallah but how many
[8:32]followers does that religion have is another question sometimes you might have
[8:37]plenty of people following that religion and sometimes you might have only
[8:42]a handful of people following that religion and quran kareem makes this
[8:49]point wide and clear when we look at the stories of the
[8:54]prophets and inshallah ramadan this will be one of our goals uh
[9:01]throughout the ramadani lectures we want to look at the stories mentioned
[9:07]in surat when we look at the stories of the prophet usually
[9:13]you'll find that the minority followed the prophets of god and the
[9:18]majority didn't when you look out for example new story or who's
[9:30]story or salah story or a note story etc you realize that
[9:33]usually the people who believe and obey allah and his messenger or
[9:39]messengers are little in number whereas you have an abundant amount of
[9:51]people who disbelieve in god and or disobey the prophets take the
[9:56]example of was a worldwide prophet he was sent to mankind to
[10:02]every human being during his time and he lived for two thousand
[10:09]and five hundred years according to the traditions of him you might
[10:16]say but kareem said he lived for 950 years sahih al-quran said
[10:24]it said that he spent 950 years amongst his people so for
[10:30]950 years no hare salam was doing what was doing dawah was
[10:34]calling people to the path of god but this doesn't mean that
[10:40]he only lived for 950 years on the contrary as i told
[10:44]you i'd say he lived for two thousand and five hundred years
[10:47]nonetheless he keeps on calling his people to allah's past allah's path
[10:54]for 950 years as a result how many people embark the ark
[11:02]of new haven traditions say 80 people out of mankind back then
[11:11]and there were a lot of people back then out of mankind
[11:17]you had 80 people embarking the ark of salvation the ark of
[11:24]nu salaam allah the rest drowned why because they deserved it because
[11:27]they were disbelievers they were disbelievers in god subhanahu wa so going
[11:36]back to this holy verse verse 38 of surah al-baqarah when allah
[11:41]says let me read the english translation of shackle for you there
[11:44]will come to you a guidance from me then whoever follows my
[11:50]guidance no fear shall come upon them nor shall they grieve what
[11:52]do you understand you understand that there could be guidance on earth
[11:56]but the presence of guidance the presence of divine guidance doesn't necessarily
[12:04]mean that everyone will follow that guidance nor does it mean that
[12:10]an abundant amount of people will follow that guidance so here one
[12:14]might ask what is the bare minimum i mean if you can
[12:20]have you know thousands of disbelievers millions of disbelievers how many believers
[12:26]do we actually need during every era we need we need at
[12:31]least one in better terms what i'm trying to say is the
[12:37]following you will never have an era devoid of any believer there
[12:40]will always be at least one believer in the religion of truth
[12:44]and that believer will be the proof of allah a prophet or
[12:49]the successor of the prophet during that time so even if everyone
[12:55]disbelieved right now god forbid which is not going to happen insha
[12:58]allah azzawajal will always have a handful of believers with imam and
[13:03]mahdi salam with imam and mahdi but i want to suppose for
[13:09]argument's sake suppose everyone including myself and yourself disbelieved we would still
[13:16]have at least one believer on earth and that would be swahili
[13:20]in fact since we know that there's also a second holy figure
[13:28]wandering around the globe a second holy figure who lives amongst us
[13:35]but he's also in and that holy figure is will know that
[13:42]if everyone disbelieved we would at least have two remaining believers sahibu
[13:47]zaman long story short what we want to say is there won't
[13:56]be an error there won't be an error and there can't be
[14:05]an era in which no believer exists on the face of the
[14:14]earth type this is one point that we can derive from this
[14:25]holy verse what's the second point we can derive a second point
[14:28]is the following is told by god here allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala summarizes
[14:46]what he summarizes all the messages that he sent to his prophets
[14:55]if we look at the message of muhammad or isa or musa
[15:01]or any other prophet salallahu we can summarize their messages in one
[15:07]word what is that word obeying allah or listening to allah or
[15:16]following allah's guidance and that's exactly what allah is mentioning here he's
[15:22]saying when guidance comes to you from me then no he who
[15:30]follows my guidance will be what will be saved he who follows
[15:33]my guidance won't be afflicted with fear and won't be afflicted with
[15:41]sadness that is the main point behind the uh the messages brought
[15:45]down upon the prophet the main point the core of every message
[15:50]is what listening to god obeying god thus you find allah says
[15:58]what in the quran in another verse he says and islam which
[16:09]implies that the religion allah wants us to believe in and the
[16:16]religion allah wanted the previous people to believe in and the religion
[16:23]allah wants the future generations to believe in is islam islam means
[16:29]what amir al-mu'min answers alaihissalam in his sermon known as islam is
[16:40]submission that is the core of islam so the message that was
[16:47]brought down upon musa alaihissalam was islam the message that was brought
[16:51]down upon isa it was islam the message brought down upon ibrahim
[16:55]was islam as well so on so forth here usually a question
[17:00]comes to mind the question is wasn't islam founded by muhammad bin
[17:08]abdullah he is known to be the founder of islam so how
[17:14]could you say that islam exists before muhammad we need to understand
[17:20]this question and to understand how we can answer the question as
[17:23]well to understand the answer to that question you see all religions
[17:30]are the same all messages of god are the same the message
[17:34]brought on upon adam muhammad in core they're the same as we
[17:44]said the main message was what listen to god obey allah if
[17:49]you compare all of these messages together you'll realize if you compare
[17:56]all of these messages to each other you'll realize that they don't
[18:02]contradict in beliefs nor do they contradict immorals you'll never have a
[18:08]prophet telling you to believe in a particular belief that contradicts another
[18:16]belief taught by a different prophet for example and we're going to
[18:22]touch upon this in surat inshallah for example every prophet every prophet
[18:29]called his people to believe in one god no prophet told his
[18:34]people to believe in two gods or multiple gods then again every
[18:41]prophet told his people to believe in the latter day in the
[18:46]last day the day of judgment none of them told them there
[18:50]isn't a day of judgment none of them told his people that
[18:54]once you die your history you're done for you won't exist anymore
[18:57]because that's not the case so in beliefs they were in agreement
[19:07]same goes for morals same goes for their morals no prophet would
[19:15]teach people particular morals only to be contradicted by another prophet for
[19:20]example no prophet would teach his people to lie on the contrary
[19:30]all of them taught their people to be truthful so you had
[19:34]prophets teaching people to be truthful did you have any prophet telling
[19:39]others to lie no obviously not same goes for trustworthiness all prophets
[19:45]taught their people to be trustworthy none of them taught his people
[19:55]to um backstab others or to be treacherous so on so forth
[19:59]so the prophets are in agreement in what in beliefs and morals
[20:04]what about laws what about their laws in general they were in
[20:12]agreement why because there was as i told you one message one
[20:17]message that all prophets delivered and that message was obey god so
[20:23]when musa for example presented his set of laws and when isa
[20:27]alaihissalam presented his set of laws and when muhammad presented his set
[20:34]of laws these prophets were telling their people what follow the laws
[20:44]of god the question is were there certain laws in in musa's
[20:51]shariah or isa shariah that contradict certain laws in muhammad's set of
[20:59]laws were there certain laws in musa shariah or isis shariah or
[21:05]any other prophet's sharia that contradicted the laws of muhammad shariah and
[21:10]vice versa yes yes there were there were certain laws that were
[21:15]different why why would the prophets differ in laws because the law
[21:24]maker is the creator allah and the law maker allah knows that
[21:29]people went through different phases hence at certain times they were in
[21:37]need of laws that they weren't in need of later on and
[21:43]sometimes because they went through certain phases previously they weren't in need
[21:50]of certain laws but later on they were in need of those
[21:53]laws so allah did what allah changed the law what we're trying
[22:02]to say is the laws of god revolve around our needs our
[22:06]benefits and our harm as well allah wants to lead us to
[22:14]benefit and wants to protect us from harm he doesn't want us
[22:17]to be afflicted with disadvantages or harm he wants to lead us
[22:23]to benefit to mercy to blessings etc so he prescribes the laws
[22:28]that we are in need of thus yes if you look at
[22:34]the narrations of the quran you will find that there are certain
[22:40]laws that existed in musa shariah but did not exist in muhammad
[22:53]shariah or vice versa or vice versa an example of that in
[22:59]case you're asking an example of that is you see we fast
[23:06]right we muslims fast when we fast we avoid 10 mufat 10
[23:12]invalidators of fasting and the main two are what eating and drinking
[23:21]correct previously during uh the days of maryam and zakaria in better
[23:28]terms in the set of laws of musa there was something called
[23:37]sukut which is basically fasting by remaining silent by not talking that
[23:45]psalm that form of fasting isn't found in our shariha in our
[23:49]set of laws it's forbidden so today if you want to fast
[23:53]you'll have to fast the way we do by refraining from the
[24:00]10 um invalidators of fasting from fashion from the real dawn till
[24:08]maher can i say that i want to fast to get closer
[24:11]to allah azzawajal by simply not speaking from fajr till maher no
[24:15]you can't that's unlawful in the set of laws of muhammad sallallahu
[24:19]alaihi it's unlawful it was lawful during muslims the reason i say
[24:28]this is because maryam and zakaria were followers of the laws of
[24:33]musa they were followers of the laws of musa before they came
[24:37]in fact isa himself i'm not sure if you know this but
[24:41]he said didn't change much of musa's laws he changed some laws
[24:48]but in general he confirmed whatever musa had taught and he commanded
[24:54]banu israel to follow the laws of musa except the few laws
[25:01]that isa salaam changed with allah's permission so was lawful back then
[25:10]but it's unlawful now it's unlawful according to the set of laws
[25:16]of muhammad that's an example yes when we fast when we fast
[25:28]it is good to remain silent it's good but it's not a
[25:36]must such that when you speak you don't invalidate your fast corrupt
[25:39]you can speak even if you're not mentioning allah yes even if
[25:45]i'm talking about you know sports or comedy or cartoons or making
[25:51]a joke here and there that's fine it won't break your fast
[25:57]however take this as a general piece of advice a piece of
[25:59]advice not a law as a general piece of advice when we're
[26:02]fasting it's it's good to you know avoid uh vain talk to
[26:13]avoid words that aren't beneficial right and it's it's good to ensure
[26:18]that our words always revolve around allah when i say revolve around
[26:28]allah this means the word itself is connected to god for example
[26:34]you're glorifying god you're saying subhanallah alhamdulillah or it also means you're
[26:39]saying whatever you're saying for the sake of god subhanallah for example
[26:43]you're teaching people quran or you're you know speaking something that's necessary
[26:48]speaking something that's necessary and you're intending that i'm saying this for
[26:53]the sake of allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala i believe you remember we said
[26:59]previously that it's good to intend that all of our actions are
[27:03]done for the sake of god even eating and sleeping even even
[27:08]walking in the park when you go out to walk just for
[27:12]the sake of you know kind of relaxing intent that you're doing
[27:17]that to get closer to allah you'll get two benefits you'll get
[27:21]the worldly benefit relaxation and you'll also get rewards in the hereafter
[27:28]god building so after understanding that the prophets agree in beliefs and
[27:39]agreeing worlds and that they only sometimes present different laws to their
[27:47]people because uh people go through phases through different phases and they
[27:52]go through different needs so sometimes they're in need of one law
[27:58]yet centuries after they become in need of a new law jade
[28:02]after understanding this point we'll understand that in reality in core the
[28:09]messages of the prophets were one message all of them were commanding
[28:19]their people to believe in god and to submit to god hence
[28:24]allah considered that the prophets were muslim they were people who submitted
[28:31]to allah and that their messages were islam so the next time
[28:40]someone asks you what is the first religion on earth the answer
[28:46]should be islam the religion of adam was islam yes the islam
[28:54]that was presented by muhammad bin abdullah that religion appeared 500 years
[29:03]or 600 years after isa alaihissalam the islam of muhammad appeared what
[29:13]500 or 600 years after isa but then again confirmed whatever the
[29:28]first prophets whatever the previous prophets and he did not contradict them
[29:34]nor did they contradict him yes he enhanced their messages correct he
[29:42]enhanced their messages the beliefs taught by for example saleh or musa
[29:49]or isa were enhanced by muhammad he taught much more the morals
[29:58]that the prophets those morals themselves were also enhanced by rasulallah but
[30:09]enhancing the beliefs or the morals doesn't equate contradicting other prophets beliefs
[30:19]or morals any questions till now right this verse summarizes all of
[31:04]the messages of god subhanallah a third point that we derive from
[31:09]this holy verse is after reading this verse we understand that the
[31:15]test begins and eve have been told to come down to earth
[31:20]and allah says what he says when there will come to you
[31:25]a guidance from me whoever follows my guidance no fear shall come
[31:30]upon them nor shall they grieve previously when he told him not
[31:35]to approach the tree what did allah mention he mentioned the consequences
[31:39]of approaching the tree and those were what feeling hunger feeling thirst
[31:46]feeling the heat of the sun right and similar consequences here no
[31:53]here allah is mentioning something much more important much more serious he's
[32:01]saying if you follow my guidance you won't be afflicted with fear
[32:07]nor will you grieve so he's speaking about a person's fate if
[32:15]someone wants to protect himself from eternal fear and from eternal grief
[32:22]then he must follow allah's laws which implies that the test has
[32:33]begun what does that imply someone might tell me inshallah the test
[32:37]began so what hold on if the test began that means adam
[32:42]alaihi salam was not mukella when he was in his garden he
[32:46]was almost now the test has begun realize adam alaihissalam wasn't there
[32:55]was no command directed at him such that if he doesn't uphold
[33:02]that command he will be punished by allah so in other terms
[33:07]there was no mawlawy directed at adam this verse is one proof
[33:14]one additional proof that when allah azzawajal tells adam not to approach
[33:21]the tree the command over there was not maunawui if you have
[33:29]forgotten the meaning of mawlana we command review the past lessons we
[33:34]explain the mawlana we command and the commands in detail bye a
[33:47]fourth point we want to mention actually before i i mentioned that
[33:53]fourth point if we understand that was not mukella when he was
[34:00]in his garden and that the command was not maulawi the command
[34:04]that was directed at him was not maulawi will understand that he
[34:08]did not sin when he approached the tree the fourth point we
[34:14]want to mention regarding this verse is when allah says no fear
[34:25]shall come upon them nor shall they grieve what is allah subhanahu
[34:31]wa'ta'ala speaking about exactly if i follow allah's message if i follow
[34:34]allah's commands i will be protected from grief and from what from
[34:44]fear how could this be believers in this world they grieve and
[34:51]they also go through states of fear right believers go through difficult
[34:57]tries trials in this world and they do grieve they do also
[35:02]fear sometimes a particular enemy or for example an animal or something
[35:08]that they believe might harm them so here the verse is alluding
[35:14]to what exactly the least we can say is the verse is
[35:21]alluding to the hereafter it's saying if you follow the laws of
[35:28]god the commands of god then you'll be protected from fear where
[35:34]in the hereafter you won't have anything to worry about all of
[35:40]these difficult obstacles that you hear of regarding sakaraten mouth all of
[35:53]these obstacles you won't have to worry about them anymore you'll be
[35:58]fully protected by who by allah similarly you won't have to grieve
[36:06]anymore you won't have to grieve grieve over what you won't have
[36:11]to grieve over your sins because allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala will have forgiven
[36:16]you remember we're not talking here over here we have to grieve
[36:19]over our sins we're talking over there in the hereafter once we
[36:24]get there if we have if we actually follow allah's commands right
[36:28]now once we get there we won't have to grieve anymore over
[36:32]our sins and we won't have to grieve over the rewards that
[36:40]uh that um we might lose in better terms in better terms
[36:48]when you're on earth sometimes you know you might get certain doubts
[36:57]you might get certain thoughts telling you what if you know what
[37:07]if these rewards that speak about won't actually be there in the
[37:14]hereafter what if you don't meet the reward that you're expecting of
[37:18]course these doubts come from the shaitaan they come from the devil
[37:23]and they're false as soon as you remember your beliefs and the
[37:30]concrete proofs that support our beliefs and you remember that allah never
[37:36]breaks his promise since he promised to reward us then he will
[37:39]fulfill his promise these doubts will go away but long story short
[37:43]sometimes a person might go through certain doubts he might go uh
[37:49]such questions might come to his mind once he reaches the hereafter
[37:55]he will not only believe that he will find his reward he'll
[38:04]see the reward right in front of him he'll see the reward
[38:06]right in front of him and he'll be completely certain that every
[38:15]good deed he has done that every good deed he has done
[38:21]in this world shall be seen in the hereafter in its true
[38:27]form and he'll be certain that he will receive his reward in
[38:33]full so he won't be worried the human being the believer won't
[38:39]be worried about not receiving the full reward he deserves for his
[38:51]so when the verse says as i told you the least we
[39:00]can understand from this holy verse is that what is that the
[39:05]believer the pious believer won't be afflicted with fear or grief in
[39:12]the hereafter as for this world as we said it's clear that
[39:16]the believer does grieve and the believer does go through states of
[39:20]fear especially spiritual fear spiritual fear you can consider it to be
[39:32]holy fear fear that you will be punished by god subhanallah salaam
[39:37]has a beautiful tradition a beautiful tradition in which he says that
[39:41]the believer lives between two fears i'm paraphrasing his word he fears
[39:49]his past sins because he doesn't know whether he's been forgiven or
[39:57]not and he also fears his future sins as in he fears
[40:00]what will happen in the future what if you know i become
[40:05]weak in the future and i slip and i commit a new
[40:12]sin so he lives between two fears fears regarding the past sins
[40:14]and fear regarding the future sins then the imam says he says
[40:25]only fear will actually bring the believer into a good or healthy
[40:31]spiritual state if you want to have a good health a good
[40:38]spiritual state a healthy spiritual state you need fear fear is good
[40:43]for you as long as of course it doesn't lead you to
[40:47]despair or hopelessness despair and hopelessness are completely refuted here one might
[41:01]ask one might ask does this mean religion doesn't have any effect
[41:12]any worldly effect we say on the contrary religion has worldly effects
[41:24]and afterlife effects religion is a need and it has a beautiful
[41:31]effect in this world that you cannot acquire unless you believe in
[41:39]a religion what is that effect that effect is tranquility inner peace
[41:46]you cannot acquire inner peace and tranquility if you don't believe in
[41:53]allah if you don't believe in the presence of god one of
[42:01]the main effects of religion and believing in a god subhana is
[42:08]leading you to a state of tranquility you'll realize that the believer
[42:17]sometimes is afflicted with an abundant amount of difficulties with difficult tribes
[42:31]and hardships but the believer remains powerful he remains strong why what
[42:37]keeps him so strong at the end of the day he's not
[42:42]made out of iron sir he's not made out of steel he's
[42:45]a human being made out of flesh and blood what keeps him
[42:50]strong is his belief in god quran says through the remembrance of
[43:02]allah the hearts meaning the souls reach a state of tranquility a
[43:05]state of inner peace that's what keeps him going and keeps him
[43:13]strong thus you find that sometimes you'll have a disbeliever who has
[43:19]everything he wants in this world everything material every material thing he
[43:25]has money he has fame he has popularity he has you know
[43:31]whatever you can think of but at the end he commits suicide
[43:39]why why would you commit suicide you have everything you want in
[43:44]this world then again you look at a believer especially those living
[43:47]in the middle east who you know is living in poverty is
[43:53]afflicted with sickness possibly he has you know a million problems in
[43:58]his life but he doesn't commit suicide he remains strong when you
[44:04]ask him how are you he says alhamdulillah all praise belongs to
[44:10]allah the disbeliever living in the west not all of them but
[44:13]some of them who have everything they want every material thing you
[44:20]can material thing you can think of might commit suicide the believer
[44:26]doesn't why because the believer has something that this believer doesn't the
[44:34]believer has allah the presence of allah when the believer reminds himself
[44:40]of god's power of god's mercy god's kindness god's generosity god's salvation
[44:48]etc he reaches a state of peace that state of peace is
[44:52]absent in the disbeliever's life he can't find it he seeks it
[44:58]he seeks it through for example women through you know um money
[45:07]cars popularity fame etc he doesn't find it by the way when
[45:12]i say he seeks it through women what i mean is unlawful
[45:16]relationships we're not talking about lawful relationships nonetheless he seeks this world
[45:21]and he doesn't find inner peace because it's not there you want
[45:28]inner peace if you want true tranquility you have to seek allah
[45:34]so yes religion does have a great effect a great worldly effect
[45:42]and it does help with fear and grief it does when i'm
[45:46]when i'm fearful um over my future i'm unsure what's gonna happen
[45:55]you know a lot of us go through these states asking ourselves
[45:59]you know how will i be able to provide for my family
[46:01]in the future or if someone is single he'll think you know
[46:05]how will i get married how in the world will i open
[46:10]a house and get married and have children and sustain you know
[46:13]several people i can barely sustain myself right now how can i
[46:18]sustain you know five or six extra people these thoughts come to
[46:23]our minds sometimes we fear what will happen you know will i
[46:26]be able to actually complete this degree or not will i be
[46:30]able to enter that university or not and the list goes on
[46:34]you have plenty of of questions that come to mind then again
[46:37]we grieve in this world right whenever we lose an opportunity a
[46:41]worldly opportunity or we lose a particular blessing we grieve if you
[46:49]lose money you grieve if you lose a child you grieve if
[46:53]you lose a family member you grieve anytime you lose something you
[46:57]think is good or important you start grieving what helps the believer
[47:02]continue his way and remain strong what helps the believer not to
[47:09]be overwhelmed with anxiety and depression allah when he remembers allah truly
[47:18]he remembers that there's no need for excessive grief over worldly matters
[47:26]grieving is fine ultimately we're human beings right we can get sad
[47:32]we can feel sadness but grieving excessively is wrong same goes for
[47:37]worrying why should i worry excessively about my future the god who
[47:42]sustained me yesterday won't forget me tomorrow allah sustained me when i
[47:51]was completely helpless will he forget me in the future of course
[47:58]he won't if we just remember how allah azzawajal sustained us when
[48:04]we were uh in our mother's wombs when you or i uh
[48:13]when when one of us was a fetus who made sure that
[48:19]this fetus was getting his sustenance was it the dad no it
[48:25]wasn't the dot was it the mom no it wasn't it wasn't
[48:28]in their hands it was allah azzawajad he was the one taking
[48:34]care of us bringing us our sustenance and shaping our bodies and
[48:39]making sure that we're developing correctly shaping our hands our tiny hands
[48:46]our tiny feet our eyes our nose our ears etc so the
[48:53]one who didn't forget you when you were completely helpless a helpless
[48:55]fetus won't forget you in the future all of these points were
[49:08]derived from or can be derived from verse 38 of surat in
[49:13]surat al-baqarah yes the last point the last point regarding fear and
[49:28]grief in this world and how religion helps us overcome such forms
[49:34]of fear and grief that point was derived from other verses in
[49:41]the holy quran right our time is almost up let me just
[49:51]share with you the the tradition i promise to read today and
[49:58]will be done in sha allah subhanahu wa ta'ala this tradition is
[50:10]found in the book tafsir it's another tradition that confirms that adam
[50:22]salamulale was ultimately going to come out of his garden even if
[50:27]he didn't eat from the tree he was going to come out
[50:31]why because it confirms that he was destined to come down to
[50:40]earth what does it say is he says adam had a friend
[50:49]a close friend who was from the angels when adam came down
[51:01]from the sky to the earth remember we said that the garden
[51:05]of adam was somewhere in this universe in the sky possibly on
[51:10]a different planet in some other galaxy nonetheless when adam came down
[51:14]from the sky to the earth what happened that malek that angel
[51:21]felt lonely because he missed his friend adam the angel complained to
[51:28]allah was allah do you give me permission or can you give
[51:37]me permission to come down to adam so allah gave him permission
[51:45]here the angel came down to adam he found adam sitting where
[51:57]sitting in a land with no vegetation no trees no grass no
[52:02]vegetation when adam saw that angel he placed his hand on his
[52:14]head and he screamed you see he recognized his friend so he
[52:18]screamed because he was grieving he was grieving over what had happened
[52:25]where what had happened in the garden so imam sadiq says that
[52:37]when when adam screamed he uh his his scream was heard by
[52:43]all of god's creations now knowing that albeit have independent knowledge they
[52:49]don't need anyone to tell them about any piece of knowledge when
[52:55]he says they don't need anyone as in other than allah they
[53:02]only need allah to know whatever they know when the imam says
[53:07]they say they narrate that when adam screamed all of god's creations
[53:12]heard him most likely he's talking about his forefathers [Music] i see
[53:35]that you've disobeyed your lord he tells him that you know your
[53:41]your state right now whatever you're going through has only one explanation
[53:45]and that is that you've disobeyed your lord and you've placed a
[53:51]burden on yourself you have put yourself through more than what you
[53:56]can handle here the angel wanted to comfort adam what did he
[54:02]tell him do you know what allah told us about you and
[54:11]we responded to god adam said he told adam allah told us
[54:24]i will place a caliph i am going to place a caliph
[54:29]on earth are you going to place on earth a caliph who
[54:41]will shed blood and uh cause corruption on earth then he told
[54:49]him this was our response to god if you remember when we
[54:52]studied this verse we said when they said this to allah they
[54:56]weren't objecting rather they wanted to understand what was the wisdom behind
[55:00]putting someone on earth who will commit these forms of injustice and
[55:06]choosing that someone to be god's caliph we we presented the answer
[55:11]if you remember and we said that ultimately not everyone was like
[55:15]that sahih there were people there were people who did shed blood
[55:21]and who did cause corruption but then again there was there were
[55:26]there was a group of people who were infallible and those people
[55:31]never committed a slight or minor sin let alone committing a major
[55:36]sin those were the cause of god so here the angel tells
[55:43]adam yesterday created you so you may be on earth meaning allah
[55:53]wanted you to be on earth if allah wants you to be
[56:04]on earth is it proper for you to be in the sky
[56:06]what's he telling him here in other words he is indirectly telling
[56:12]him adam you were supposed to come down so relax you know
[56:16]don't put too much on yourself you were supposed to come down
[56:27]this was your destination i swear by allah this word comforted adam
[56:35]that angel consoled him and was able to comfort him that word
[56:40]comforted him for three three what the narration doesn't say possibly three
[56:48]days possibly three weeks possibly three months or three years so the
[56:53]least we can understand from the narration is that this word comforted
[56:57]adam for at least three days three days because the angel reminded
[57:02]him that ultimately he was supposed to be on earth
