[0:47]in our last lesson we shed light on verse 194 of surat
[0:52]al-imran for those of you who weren't here um during the past
[0:59]few lessons we were dissecting verses 190 to 190 for of surat
[1:06]ali because we stopped at the migration of rasulallah and specifically the
[1:11]migration of imam ali and the muslim from mecca to medina and
[1:18]we said several times that when imam ali and the fawatim migrated
[1:23]from mecca to medina wherever they would stop uh during their migration
[1:29]they would mention allah in all states whether they were standing up
[1:34]sitting down or lying on their sides so allah praised so basically
[1:54]we were shedding light and dissecting these verses last week we shed
[1:58]light on verse 194 and we mentioned multiple points one of which
[2:02]was the promise of allah we said made different promises and conveyed
[2:13]these promises to us through the messengers especially through the last messenger
[2:21]amongst those promises was that if a person pays sadaqah he pays
[2:29]charity allah will give him back the amount that he paid in
[2:33]fact he will multiply it for him at least by 10 times
[2:38]at least by 10 times another promise was that if a person
[2:45]fears god and doesn't cross his limits allah will provide him with
[2:51]a way out which implies that when we go through tough situations
[2:55]and we feel that all avenues are blocked and even then we
[3:00]decide to be pious due to our piety allah creates a new
[3:05]avenue for us an avenue that we might have in mind or
[3:10]we might not even have in mind a third promise is answering
[3:14]the supplication and we shed a good amount of light on that
[3:19]specific promise we said that uh sometimes we might imagine that allah
[3:24]subhanahu wa'ta'ala as for saying this breaks his promise why because we
[3:33]supplicate and then we don't see an apparent answer however we mentioned
[3:39]that allah when he says call upon me and i shall answer
[3:45]you he is not telling you that your request will be fulfilled
[3:50]instantaneously you say i i will answer which means as soon as
[3:53]you perform the dua this application as long as you uphold the
[3:56]conditions of supplication and the conditions of the suppliant your supplication will
[4:05]be answered instantaneously but when will the request be fulfilled that's a
[4:11]different topic so the request might be fulfilled on the day of
[4:19]your supplication or it might be fulfilled tomorrow or it might be
[4:21]fulfilled in 20 years it depends it all goes back to allah's
[4:26]wisdom and to what's best is it best to fulfill that request
[4:32]now or not so in short allah azzawajal doesn't break his promise
[4:41]especially when we come to uh when we come to supplications uh
[4:46]why would he break his promise of hanoi it's not like he's
[4:52]stingy or he's ignorant or he's weak if he was stingy you'd
[4:57]say okay he's sinned he doesn't want to give you but he's
[4:59]he's the all-generous he likes giving if he was ignorant you might
[5:04]say you know what maybe he doesn't know how to fulfill my
[5:06]request or maybe he doesn't even know that i called upon him
[5:10]but he's aware of all things and if he was weak you
[5:14]might say maybe i'm asking too much but there is no such
[5:17]thing as asking too much from allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala surely allah is
[5:24]able to do anything says in a supplication which we didn't mention
[5:28]last week but we'll mention it today he says to one of
[5:33]the narrators ask anything from allah and don't tell yourself this is
[5:37]something i won't be given he says ask and uh rely on
[5:45]allah ask whatever you want from allah azzawajal and rely on him
[5:49]ultimately you don't know maybe allah azzawajal will fulfill your request for
[5:55]he is able to do anything all of these points or most
[6:02]of these points were mentioned last week today inshallah we want to
[6:05]shed light on verse 195 and hopefully if we finish this verse
[6:09]today we'll continue with uh the events that happened after rasulullah migrated
[6:20]to medina however i want you to keep in mind this is
[6:25]a point that some muslims might not know rasulallah didn't enter medina
[6:31]by himself nor did he enter medina with abu bakr rather he
[6:39]waited on the borders of medina for amir al-mu'min and the forward
[6:45]he wouldn't enter medina without his beloved cousin and spiritual brother ali
[6:51]ibn abi talib and without his beloved fatima and the rest of
[6:56]the falatin so he was waiting for them on the boundaries of
[7:00]medina what does verse 195 say allah says accepted their prayer that
[7:34]i will not waste the work of a worker among you whether
[7:39]male or female as you shall see this verse has a lot
[7:45]of interesting points first one is allah says their lord answered their
[7:51]call what did we mention last week if you remember we mentioned
[7:56]a tradition by rasulallah the prophet said i'm paraphrasing his words of
[8:08]course that when a person calls upon allah five times saying rabb
[8:11]our lord allah answers him and the proof behind that is what
[8:17]in verses 192 195 repeat five times in different parts of the
[8:32]verses and then allah says so their lord answered their call which
[8:38]means that if you call upon allah five times using the word
[8:43]allah will answer your call this was uh what the prophet mentioned
[8:50]in the narration now allah went on explaining to us his answer
[9:00]how did he answer their prayer so he said he's addressing them
[9:10]telling them that he will not waste i will not waste the
[9:17]work of a worker among you which implies that every deed these
[9:25]people did has been accepted by god he said the word amen
[9:32]work or action um can be used to refer to any minor
[9:40]or major deed so the verse implies that all of their deeds
[9:44]are accepted the minor and major ones that's one all of their
[9:51]deeds are accepted secondly he says he says that he will not
[10:00]waste or lose the actions performed by any of them whether he's
[10:08]a male or she's a female so here we see what here
[10:11]we see equality we see equality one might ask does islam believe
[10:19]in equality or equity when it comes to males and females today
[10:26]we have a movement called feminism that supports the concept of equality
[10:33]it's based on the concept of equality telling you that males are
[10:37]equal to females thus both of them should have the same rights
[10:40]so the question is does islam believe in the same or not
[10:45]we say islam doesn't believe in equality in all cases rather it
[10:52]believes in it in some cases islam believes in what in equity
[10:58]equity what's equity it is to grant each gender the right that
[11:06]it deserves to grant each gender the right it deserves males and
[11:10]females are humans so we're talking about humans of course both of
[11:14]them are human beings both of them are from adam and eve
[11:18]which means they have similarities which means that they must share some
[11:23]rights such as the right to live correct but they're also two
[11:33]genders which means they have differences which means one gender should have
[11:38]some rights that the other gender does not have and that goes
[11:42]what that goes both ways hence when we look at the islamic
[11:48]set of laws we find that allah sometimes grants certain rights to
[11:55]males only and sometimes he grants certain rights to females only sometimes
[12:01]he imposes an obligation on males only such as the obligation of
[12:08]battling in the path of i'm speaking in general of course in
[12:11]general that obligation is imposed on males whereas sometimes he imposes an
[12:18]obligation on females specifically such as the obligation of the external hijab
[12:27]so islam believes in what inequity when we come to jurisprudential matters
[12:36]and when we come to the rights granted to males and females
[12:42]rights pertaining to this world now you might say but you said
[12:50]islam believes in some sort of equality yes it believes in equality
[12:53]in spiritual matters in spirit um or spirituality males and females both
[13:01]have the uh opportunity to get closer to allah and depending on
[13:10]the intentions and the actions and of course the beliefs of that
[13:18]person whether it's a male or female he'll reach a higher level
[13:22]than other males or females so you might have a man who's
[13:28]so pure he's better than thousands in fact millions of men and
[13:34]women like ibrahimovic but then again you might have a female who's
[13:43]so pure she's better in the eyes of allah than millions and
[13:47]millions of men and women such as maryam or the lady of
[13:54]light fatima so in spirituality when we look at spiritual matters doesn't
[14:04]look at your gender this is what the verse is alluding to
[14:08]over here when allah says i will not lose or waste the
[14:21]work of a worker amongst you whether it's a male or a
[14:30]female so allah doesn't care about your gender when looking at spiritual
[14:36]matters rather he cares about your intentions your beliefs your practices your
[14:41]morals etc that will determine whether allah will accept your deed or
[14:49]not so on a spiritual level they're on the same level males
[14:53]and females are on the same level whereas from a juror's prudential
[14:59]level they're not which makes complete sense because we repeat we're two
[15:05]genders we're not the same gender so we have similarities and we
[15:11]have differences hence it's absurd to say that males and females should
[15:18]have the same juris prudential rights it's absurd and it's absurd to
[15:25]say that the laws that are imposed on males should be imposed
[15:29]on females without any difference that does not make sense it doesn't
[15:37]make sense to say such a word right going back to the
[15:48]verse allah says here we have multiple interpretations actually before i tell
[16:16]you does anyone have a have an idea of what allah might
[16:18]be saying when he says one of you are part of the
[16:26]other the one of you being from the other no idea well
[16:57]we have two interpretations of these two pertaining to this word the
[17:01]first one is since muslims in general are part of the same
[17:12]faith it's as if they're one body it's as if they're one
[17:19]human so allah wants the islamic nation to be united under one
[17:27]banner the banner of muhammad and he considers us to be one
[17:35]so even though we might have thousands or millions or even billions
[17:41]of people who fall under the banner of islam because we're all
[17:47]muslim then we're all what we're all one so when he says
[17:53]some of you are part of the other he is according to
[17:59]the first interpretation pointing to this issue telling us that yes you're
[18:05]one nation which means you are actually one all of you are
[18:10]one as if you're one human and all of you are connected
[18:15]to each other the second interpretation of vaduko membab is that females
[18:23]and males are intertwined they are greatly connected you can't separate males
[18:30]from females and vice versa so allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala according to one
[18:39]interpretation according to interpretation allah is explaining why he doesn't differ differ
[18:48]between a male and a female when accepting their deeds because they're
[18:54]what badoku because some of you are part of the other so
[19:00]the second interpretation says what it says that males and females are
[19:08]intertwined how so if you're a male you came from a female
[19:14]correct you have a mom so you came from a female whereas
[19:19]if you're a female you came from a male you have a
[19:24]dad right come on when i say you came you you have
[19:25]a dad or you came from a male i'm not implying that
[19:29]you didn't come from a female obviously everyone has mom and dad
[19:33]except for adam even you don't have parents and asa only has
[19:36]a mother but the majority of mankind they have parents so regardless
[19:43]of your gender you come from two individuals who are from different
[19:53]genders so females are connected to males and males are connected to
[19:58]females the same applies if we look at our progenies if you're
[20:02]a male allah might bless you with a daughter and if you're
[20:06]a female allah might bless you with a son so that's what
[20:11]we mean when we say that they're intertwined you can't disconnect them
[20:18]from each other so the first meaning of is that all of
[20:28]you are part of the same faith so it's as if you're
[20:33]one the second meaning is all of you are humans and you're
[20:37]connected to one another both genders are connected to each other um
[20:42]and the connection is so strong that it's unbreakable males come from
[20:49]females and females come from yes then allah they therefore who fled
[21:10]and were turned out of their homes and persecuted in my way
[21:17]maybe the better word for udu is hurt because udu means to
[21:24]be hurt nonetheless in the translation shakir said persecuted and persecuted in
[21:29]my way and who fought and were slain i will most certainly
[21:35]cover their evil deeds here allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala makes a general statement
[21:41]which pertains to imam ali and the fallout to anyone who performs
[21:48]the actions allah mentions he says that those who migrate and those
[21:54]who are kicked out of their homes and who get hurt uh
[22:01]as they're walking on the path of allah so they get hurt
[22:04]because they're walking on the path of allah and those who fight
[22:10]in the path of god and get killed their reward shall be
[22:15]what their reward shall be the following him and i will most
[22:28]certainly cover their evil deeds and i will and i will most
[22:31]certainly make them enter gardens beneath which rivers flow now as i
[22:39]told you the statement here is general this specific statement it pertains
[22:45]to uh anyone who performs those deeds not only to imam ali
[22:53]and sayyidah fatima arahima i shall cover their evil deeds i'm saying
[23:03]there's no problem because one might say but imam ali and say
[23:09]the fatima don't have evil deeds correct they don't have evil deeds
[23:13]if they don't have evil deeds then that specific fear does not
[23:19]apply to them rather it applies to who it applies to the
[23:24]individuals who do have evil deeds yet they still did whatever allah
[23:33]mentioned in this verse such as migrating fighting the path of allah
[23:38]getting slain for the sake of allah is that clear inshallah do
[23:56]we have a question before i continue i'm guessing not no questions
[24:27]here we have two points to me two more points tonight before
[24:33]we continue those who migrated and were kicked out of their homes
[24:46]the reason he says they were kicked out of their homes is
[24:50]because and the muslims who migrated from mecca to medina they were
[24:59]migrating by force as in they were migrating because of what the
[25:08]mushrikeen the prolethius of mecca did as you know the the polytheists
[25:14]were intending on killing rasulallah they wanted to finish him and so
[25:22]allah commanded him to migrate to leave mecca and go to medina
[25:26]so the mushrikeen the polytheists played a role in leading the muslims
[25:33]out of mecca to medina thus you can say that they kicked
[25:40]them out of their homes in that sense now a question comes
[25:46]to mind here when a person migrates right he leaves his house
[25:56]before he migrates correct you leave your house and then you leave
[26:01]the city and you go to another city so leaving the house
[26:05]happens before the migration happens why does the quran mention migration before
[26:16]being kicked out of the house allah says those who um migrated
[26:26]and were turned out of their homes shouldn't he say those who
[26:32]were turned out of their homes and migrated because being turned out
[26:35]of your house kicked out of your house happens before you migrate
[26:39]so how would you answer that question is the question clear any
[27:16]idea sorry i can't find the chat my fault um but i
[27:21]feel like would it be part of uh because of my money
[27:25]but what about him like when he stayed inside the house when
[27:29]everybody left everybody migrated back but uh at the house um when
[27:37]he was on the prophet's bed did it apply to him that's
[27:43]just a uh a question okay so you're saying possibly allah mentioned
[27:49]the migration first because uh some people migrated before imam and he
[27:55]was still in the house of rasulallah yes okay do you have
[28:07]another guess let me give you uh an answer pertaining to arabic
[28:42]grammar okay pertaining to arabic grammar this will help you inshallah understand
[28:46]quran and if you remember last week in the quran class we
[28:53]mentioned the word wa and we said that wow sometimes means and
[29:00]and sometimes it doesn't such as when you use it is a
[29:10]wow indicating the state of an individual or a thing so to
[29:17]translate using the word and would be incorrect that being said that
[29:20]being said let's go back to the world allah said what those
[29:30]who migrated and were kicked out of their houses use the word
[29:41]wow the word wow doesn't indicate that what comes after it happens
[29:45]or happened after what came before it or what comes before let
[29:54]me give you an example you say muhammad and came in arabic
[30:00]you'll say the word doesn't indicate that ali came after muhammad nor
[30:12]does it indicate that he came before him so when we use
[30:17]the word it doesn't necessarily mean that what's mentioned after it happens
[30:23]after what's mentioned before you say possibly they came at the same
[30:33]time possibly entered before muhammad possibly muhammad entered before ali the word
[30:37]wa doesn't specify what happened whereas the word that indicates that what
[30:48]comes after the word um happens after what come comes before for
[30:56]example you say ali here it means that hari came directly which
[31:16]doesn't imply because you use the word this doesn't imply that they
[31:22]were kicked out of their homes after they migrated it doesn't on
[31:28]the contrary we said being kicked out of the house happens before
[31:34]you migrate you you're pulled out of your house or pushed out
[31:39]of it and then you migrate so the word wow will will
[31:47]uh get rid of the uh the question will actually solve the
[31:54]problem and answer the question so remember when we use wah the
[32:02]the word doesn't imply that what comes after it happens or happened
[32:10]before what comes before it or it doesn't imply that what comes
[32:18]after it happens after what comes before the second point we want
[32:32]to mention is allah says i shall cover their evil deeds uh
[32:55]in order to enter heaven you must be pure and the verse
[33:00]alludes to this issue because allah says will cover the evil deeds
[33:04]before he mentions what entering heaven so it's as if allah is
[33:11]telling you you cannot enter heaven as you're contaminated with sin so
[33:18]if you have been contaminated with sin and you receive my forgiveness
[33:22]on a day of judgment i'll purify you before you enter the
[33:27]realm of heaven because heaven is a is a realm of purity
[33:32]the realm of purity finally he says a reward from allah this
[33:44]word in itself allows you to open the door of imagination because
[33:50]when the reward is from allah it means the reward has to
[33:54]uh the reward has to um fit um the characteristics of allah
[34:04]what i mean to say is the following when you have a
[34:10]reward the reward should correspond with the traits of the rewarder so
[34:17]if for example you have a king who's known for his generosity
[34:25]and known for his richness who is presenting a reward the reward
[34:28]must be something great something that you know mesmerizes people so what
[34:35]would you say about the reward coming from allah the king of
[34:40]all kings and the all-generous definitely that reward will be something that
[34:46]we can we cannot imagine at the moment as much as we
[34:50]think about what lies in heaven we fail to actually imagine what
[34:56]is in it and this is exactly what rasulullah said in his
[34:59]beautiful hadith s and it contains what no human has ever imagined
[35:20]so as much as you imagine the rewards of heaven you will
[35:29]fail to actually understand yet better reward that's how the translator translated
[35:48]the last segment of the verse here we have a beautiful hadith
[35:55]to be honest it's one of the most beautiful hadith that i've
[36:00]read i wanted to share it with you it's found in tafsir
[36:08]let me just copy and paste the heading for you there's a
[36:26]narration that goes back to us was one of imam ali's close
[36:32]really close companions and he is the one who entered upon imam
[36:38]ali on day 20 of the month of ramadan after he was
[36:45]struck and he had a very uh important dialogue with he was
[36:51]so attached to imam ali that when imam and hassan salam allah
[36:56]came out of imami's house and told the people present to leave
[37:03]to go back to their homes uh couldn't leave [Music] and finally
[37:15]he was granted permission to enter the house of the islam and
[37:19]to see him so he sees the imam in a very heartbreaking
[37:23]state and he has a nice dialogue with the imam nonetheless what
[37:29]does this what does azpak say us says commented on two verses
[37:40]or to be more precise two segments of two different verses in
[37:47]the quran one segment says which is the one we read a
[37:55]reward from allah the other one says what lies with allah is
[38:01]better for those who are meaning those who are righteous fine so
[38:06]these are two segments of two different verses what does the hadith
[38:09]say imam ali said that the prophet said sallallahu alaihi you are
[38:23]the reward and your supporters are the righteous slaves of god subhanahu
[38:31]so whoever supports you yahari is a righteous slave of god that's
[38:35]beautiful but the first portion of the hadith is more beautiful without
[38:41]him you are the reward you are the reward of the believers
[38:45]imagine uh what this hadith is implying heaven is not uh an
[38:54]abode of you know castles uh yummy food drinks and the lights
[39:03]all that is present in heaven but there are rewards that are
[39:07]even more beautiful than those rewards and on top of the list
[39:23]having your own uh gatherings your own meetings so the hadith confirms
[39:33]that the imam himself is a reward from allah given to the
[39:42]believers in hazard may allah make us from them next week we
[39:50]will shed light on another hadith a lengthy hadith that i wanted
[39:54]to share today with you but we don't have any more time
[39:57]a hadith which reveals a lot of imam ali's well let me
[40:02]say a portion of imam ali's virtue and then we'll continue with
[40:07]our lessons on the biography of rasulallah foreign
