[0:09]foreign [Music] [Music] in our last lesson we mentioned several traditions speaking
[0:57]about what happens at the time of sleep and how when a
[1:03]person is sleeping part of his soul departs from the body we've
[1:09]said multiple times until now that there is a resemblance between death
[1:16]and sleep for when a person dies or sleeps his soul comes
[1:19]out of the body however there are a few differences one of
[1:25]which is during the time of death the whole soul comes out
[1:27]whereas during the time of sleep part of the soul comes out
[1:31]and part of it remains what remains inside the body the part
[1:37]that comes out is called by the quran and it's called a
[1:46]nafs whereas the part that remains the part of the soul which
[1:50]remains in the body when the person is sleeping is called although
[1:55]although sometimes you might use the word nafs and you intend on
[2:02]speaking about the soul so you say nafs as you are referring
[2:07]to the soul or sometimes you might say as you are referring
[2:11]to the soul to the whole soul but when we're looking at
[2:13]this event the event or the state of sleep and we hear
[2:19]the quran telling us that that nafs exits the body when the
[2:23]person is asleep we have to keep in mind that part of
[2:28]the soul remains inside the body that part is called what it's
[2:33]called now ibn abbas mentions um what is this nafs the part
[2:42]that comes out and what is the the part that stays within
[2:48]the body as you can find in masjima is the part of
[2:56]the soul through which one understands what's happening and differentiates between different
[3:03]issues but the rule is the part of the soul that he
[3:08]uses to breathe and he uses to to breathe and basically uh
[3:17]to move so it's the part of the soul that keeps you
[3:22]alive that keeps you alive if you recall the traditions of the
[3:30]ones that we read last week and you recall what the quran
[3:38]said about death and sleep and you look at the state of
[3:41]the human being when he's sleeping you realize that ibn abbas definition
[3:46]is quite accurate it is quite accurate because when you're asleep excuse
[3:51]me you're not aware of what's happening to you or to your
[3:58]surroundings you sleep for example and you say something as you're sleeping
[4:01]when you wake up those who were awake and heard you tell
[4:04]you that for example you were talking when you were sleeping here
[4:08]you might be surprised in many cases the person is surprised you
[4:14]might say really i was talking when i was sleeping yes why
[4:17]doesn't he remember because when he's sleeping he's not aware of what's
[4:21]happening to him and to his surroundings the nafs is on its
[4:28]own journey but then again he's still alive he still breathes and
[4:32]sometimes moves as he is sleeping correct so this is the definition
[4:40]of the nafs and the definition of the rooh according to what
[4:43]ibn abbas mentions as you can find in majma el bayan then
[4:50]we said that we're going to start with the first stage from
[4:57]the stages of the hereafter called sakrat in or you can also
[5:03]call it sakaratel mode but before doing so we asked a question
[5:06]after realizing that death resembles sleep and sleep resembles death death is
[5:15]a major form of sleep and sleep is a minor form of
[5:20]death we realize that death in itself in itself is not so
[5:24]scary it's a major form of sleep so why are people scared
[5:28]of that why do people hate death we said there are multiple
[5:36]reasons some people hate death because they believe death is a form
[5:42]of inexistence when in reality it's not right it's a form of
[5:46]existence but they believe it's a form of inexistence and no one
[5:52]likes to vanish such that he no longer exists in this world
[5:57]or in any world number two we said some people know that
[6:00]death is a form of existence when you die you're going to
[6:05]another world you're not going into a form of inexistence but they
[6:10]hate it because they're not ready for it as in they have
[6:15]not prepared themselves for death they don't believe in the truth and
[6:18]or they don't perform the deeds that lead them to heaven rather
[6:26]they perform the deeds that lead them to hell fire and they
[6:29]know if they die then they're in big trouble hence they don't
[6:36]want to die number three we said some people hate death or
[6:41]don't like it because they're attached to the material blessings that they
[6:48]possess such as their wealth their fame their popularity etc they know
[6:53]that once they die they have to detach from all of these
[6:55]blessings and so they don't want to die number four we also
[7:02]mentioned that some people do not like death or might not might
[7:10]not like it because when you die you separate you separate from
[7:14]the people you love you separate from the people you love and
[7:18]separating from your loved ones is not easy it's difficult thus they
[7:27]feel some sort of you know dislikeness towards death here i want
[7:38]to share with you a tradition that we did not mention last
[7:42]week so from now we're starting with the new lesson a tradition
[7:46]uh pertaining to imam alhassan in which he mentions one of the
[7:53]reasons that we mentioned last week why people hate death it's an
[7:58]interesting tradition that you can find in the book let me send
[8:10]you the tradition it says that imam jaffar muhammad salam said what
[8:38]does margin mean imagine has several meanings one of which is shameless
[8:45]a person who's shameless a person who doesn't feel shy when doing
[8:50]certain things that should make him shy another meaning is a joker
[8:57]meaning someone who jokes often oftenly someone who uh you know regularly
[9:04]jokes it seems that when the imam says what can imagine he's
[9:09]talking about he's referring to the second meaning not the first so
[9:13]he's saying this friend of imam al-hasan alaihissalat would joke regularly he
[9:32]says that this friend of the imam was absent for several days
[9:37]then on a particular day he came to the imam so imam
[9:43]al-hasan alaihissalam told him how are you yep [Music] he presented an
[10:00]interesting answer he told the imam salam i am in a state
[10:08]i am currently in a state that i do not love allah
[10:14]does not love and the devil does not love so i'm in
[10:20]a state that i don't love number one allah does not love
[10:24]the state i'm in and also the devil does not love this
[10:26]state i'm in hassan quite an ironic thing to say the imam
[10:37]told him how could this be how could you be in a
[10:39]state that you don't love allah does not love and the devil
[10:44]himself does not love when allah and the devil are on what
[10:48]different sides right they're enemies wants me to obey him and he
[11:16]doesn't want me to disobey him allah he tells him loves that
[11:22]i obey him and he does not love that i disobey him
[11:25]but i am not like that as in i don't obey allah
[11:28]24 7.
[11:30]sometimes i disobey my lord hence i'm in a state that allah
[11:35]does not love then he said was shaytaan you hiber he loves
[11:48]that i disobey allah and he does not love that i obey
[11:54]allah but i don't do that as in i do not disobey
[11:55]allah 24 7.
[11:57]yes sometimes i might disobey him but other times i'll obey allah
[12:02]or repent so the shaitaan doesn't like this about me he doesn't
[12:06]like that i you know listen sometimes to allah's commands azzawajal and
[12:12]i repent then he said he said as for me i love
[12:25]to remain in this world as in i don't want to die
[12:30]but that will not happen sooner or later i will have to
[12:37]die here the narration says [Music] when this man when the friend
[12:58]of imam al-hasan said i mentioned that he loves to remain in
[13:04]this world he doesn't want to die yet he knows that ultimately
[13:06]one day he will die a person who was part of the
[13:14]audience rose and asked imam al-hasan alayhi o grandson of allah's messenger
[13:18]why do we hate death why don't we love it [Music] is
[13:43]talking about people in general not about every single person he's saying
[13:49]because you have ruined your lives in the hereafter where you can
[13:57]say you've ruined your world in the hereafter and you have built
[14:01]your world in this life and you hate to be transferred from
[14:15]a world that is built to a world that is what ruined
[14:20]imagine if someone is living in a cozy and comfortable house and
[14:28]he's told to live on the streets no he's told to live
[14:30]in the ruins would he accept no he wouldn't no one would
[14:36]do it why would i leave my comfortable and cozy house and
[14:40]go live in ruins the imam is saying this is why you
[14:48]people hate that because you only focus on building your current world
[14:52]and you neglect what the world of the hereafter and you know
[14:58]that once that day comes once the day comes the day in
[15:03]which you have to be transferred to the hereafter you will face
[15:07]frights punishments and the likes so you don't want to leave this
[15:15]world and go to that one this is one main reason why
[15:28]people hate death or dislike it here a question comes to mind
[15:35]okay sometimes we see believers who do good deeds who are pious
[15:44]and they still fear death they do fear death why is that
[15:51]if someone is a believer and he's doing good deeds he's pious
[15:56]he's preparing very well for the hereafter why does he still fear
[16:04]death the answer is the answer is because that believer who is
[16:12]pious who is righteous who is preparing very well for the hereafter
[16:16]doesn't know what to expect in the hereafter when i say he
[16:21]doesn't know what to expect i don't mean that he's ignorant of
[16:26]the affairs or issues of the hereafter on the contrary he might
[16:29]be an expert in that field he might have detailed knowledge regarding
[16:33]the stages of the hereafter but he still fears death and what
[16:40]comes after that why because he's unsure at the moment if he
[16:43]will be from the dwellers of heaven or the dwellers of hell
[16:46]he's unsure yes he has hope and and he knows allah is
[16:53]the all-merciful but at the same time he fears allah's punishment and
[16:55]that's what allah wants from us allah wants us to have hope
[16:59]in his mercy and to fear his punishment he wants our hearts
[17:05]to be filled with what hope and fear fifty percent hope and
[17:12]fifty percent fear that's what will help a human being succeed in
[17:16]the hereafter so since he does not he does not know at
[17:22]the moment what his fate will be he remains fearful it doesn't
[17:27]mean he becomes hopeless no he doesn't he knows allah wa ta'ala
[17:34]allah allah's mercy is beyond imagination it's enough to hear inshallah we'll
[17:39]mention this when we get to the day of judgment that on
[17:42]that day allah will reveal so much mercy to the people to
[17:48]the creations who are present on that day that even iblis even
[17:53]a shaytan regime will have hope in being forgiven by allah but
[18:03]shaitaan obviously won't be forgiven this tells you that the amount of
[18:09]mercy allah shows to people on that day and the amount of
[18:13]forgiveness that he manifests is truly beyond imagination truly beyond description but
[18:22]then again you can't forget allah's punishment you can't forget his wrath
[18:33]he has hope but he also has fear when does that fear
[18:42]and when does it end for the mu'min who is pious the
[18:47]movement who actually follows the instructions of salam it will end in
[18:54]sakaratil when he sees rasulallah and amir al-mu'min in strings that he
[19:02]will be from the dwellers of heaven and they tell him that
[19:06]he has nothing to fear at that point the fear will go
[19:11]away at that point but before that point we have to remain
[19:16]fearful after understanding these points we start with the quran has mentioned
[19:40]19 in which allah says let me send you the verse and
[20:05]the supper of death will come in truth that is what you
[20:09]were trying to escape what is sakura tillman we've said multiple times
[20:14]it is basically the last moment of a person's life and his
[20:21]first moments in the hereafter so the moments in which he's being
[20:24]transferred from this world to the other world the moment in which
[20:29]his soul is being extracted from the body those moments are called
[20:34]what this short verse in surat khaf is a very interesting verse
[20:46]and we have multiple points regarding the verse to analyze number one
[20:52]allah says is the past tense of tajik past tense of taji
[21:04]which means it came allah is telling you that secret mouth came
[21:10]but those who are reading the quran or those who will read
[21:18]it are still alive right now we just read the verse we're
[21:29]alive the sakura has not arrived yet but allah has said what
[21:34]it came it already came why why doesn't you say he doesn't
[21:45]say that he says it came you remember we've mentioned before the
[21:55]quran uses the past tense when speaking about future events that will
[22:03]happen without doubt such as the day of judgment or such as
[22:10]an afghan when the horn will be blown on the day of
[22:16]judgment allah says the horn was blown but it hasn't been blown
[22:24]yet yes allah means to say that this will happen you cannot
[22:26]avoid this event it is a must because it's a must it
[22:32]is as if it already happened the same applies to sakura tillman
[22:38]can you run away from sakurati no you can't it's gonna come
[22:43]it's on its way it's gonna come in a day in a
[22:47]year and a hundred years ultimately it's gonna come you cannot avoid
[22:51]it so allah says what and it came that's the first point
[23:02]second point is allah says which literally means the intoxication of that
[23:10]the intoxication of that why does he call those moments the last
[23:15]moment of a person's life the intoxication of death or say why
[23:27]does he refer to the state of the human being when he
[23:30]is in that in those moments using the word intoxication of that
[23:37]the answer is at that moment the human being witnesses several realities
[23:51]that are quite shocking several realities that are quite shocking and as
[24:00]a result he becomes preoccupied with himself and with these issues hence
[24:10]it is as if he loses his mind but in reality he
[24:17]has not lost his mind it's just that he's shocked and he's
[24:23]preoccupied with what is happening and what he is seeing so the
[24:29]word sakura tulmo or the word sakaratul indicates that those moments the
[24:39]moments of a person's life at the end of his life are
[24:43]difficult moments difficult moments or the least we can say is they
[24:51]can be difficult moments moments of hardship now this doesn't mean that
[24:56]everyone will go through hardship when he or she dies because we
[25:02]will see inshallah that there are deeds you could do from now
[25:05]to make those moments quite easy and simple but if a person
[25:12]doesn't you know prepare himself for the hereafter from now it is
[25:19]very likely that those moments will be very difficult very difficult very
[25:25]hard why what makes those moments difficult well there are several issues
[25:39]that make it difficult that make those moments difficult number one number
[25:45]one the person realizes that he's about to leave this world and
[25:53]he's about to leave his possessions his money and his properties imagine
[26:00]what would happen to the human being if he knew that he
[26:05]acquired all of this money or properties through unlawful means and now
[26:12]he has to face allah it's only a matter of minutes or
[26:17]hours before he's uh before he leaves this world and has to
[26:21]answer the angels of god on top of that imagine what he
[26:28]would feel if he knows that he has not paid his dues
[26:34]such as his homes or zakat he has a fortune but he
[26:40]never paid homs never paid zakat and now he has to face
[26:44]allah subhana wa that's one hardship this is one hardship but this
[26:51]hardship can be avoided if the person does what if the person
[26:55]acquires his wealth from a lawful source using a lawful means and
[27:02]pays his dues he pays the homes to zakat secondly at the
[27:12]time of that usually your family members are around you right and
[27:16]they're crying over you they're in a very difficult emotional state especially
[27:22]when they start seeing you know the numbers on the monitor dropping
[27:28]your heart beat is dropping for example your oxygen level is dropping
[27:35]it's a hard moment it's a very hard moment so when you
[27:38]witness your phone numbers crying over you or becoming impatient because you're
[27:42]on the brink of death that also makes what those moments difficult
[27:51]on top of that certain people maybe many people in their last
[28:04]hours or minutes in this world they're sick and they feel a
[28:10]lot of weakness right we will see that according to the traditions
[28:17]of salaam some people are aren't able to speak anymore they can
[28:23]hear but they can't speak and we've seen this we've seen it
[28:26]when certain people are in sakaratil or let me say were in
[28:32]sponsored they would not they would not respond so they're not talking
[28:38]anymore but they're still what they're still in this world and they
[28:43]still hear what's happening around them so the weakness that the person
[28:49]feels the sickness that he feels at that point if he's sick
[28:53]that's also a hardship number four he begins to witness a new
[29:03]world a world that he did not witness previously meaning the world
[29:08]of what the world of the unseen he starts seeing angels now
[29:16]we're surrounded by angels we know this right each one of us
[29:19]has at least two angels with him that write his deeds one
[29:25]writes the good deeds and when one writes the bad deeds so
[29:29]they're with us but we don't see them right now well on
[29:34]the brink of death you see the angels you see them and
[29:39]you also see me now in what form does malacana arrive that
[29:48]is the question inshallah later on we will have our own class
[29:54]about malakin who is he what are his characteristics etc and in
[29:59]what form does he arrive when he comes to collect the soul
[30:03]of the human being seeing the angels is part of what's seeing
[30:12]the world of the unseen but there's other things or other individuals
[30:15]that you also see you also see the devil according to the
[30:19]traditions of makes an appearance why because he wants to deviate you
[30:26]he wants to mislead you before you leave this world trying to
[30:34]give you the final blow so you can leave the world as
[30:39]a disbeliever so he can ruin your life in the hereafter on
[30:45]top of that you see and also we will mention detailed traditions
[30:52]about and what uh what do they do in sakharatil how does
[30:59]a person see them and when are they pleased with the person
[31:05]who's dying and when are they displeased with the person who is
[31:09]dying so seeing this this new world in itself is shocking right
[31:20]it's shocking especially for people who are clueless when it comes to
[31:26]the hereafter alhamdulillah the likes of you are learning about the hereafter
[31:34]so theoretically speaking you know what to expect theoretically speaking you know
[31:39]what to expect but other humans might be clueless about this and
[31:44]all of a sudden you know they're sick in the hospital for
[31:48]example or at home and they start seeing angels infallibles shaytan regime
[31:57]it's only normal to be shocked at that point and to be
[32:02]in a state of what intoxication a state of intoxication so these
[32:15]moments can be really difficult very difficult but again if a person
[32:20]prepares from now he can perform deeds that will do what that
[32:29]will uh facilitate the issues or affairs of sakaratella he can do
[32:36]he can perform deeds from now that will make those moments very
[32:40]easy very simple one of them just to give you a heads
[32:45]up i know will make some some of you laugh one of
[32:47]them is feeding your fellow brothers or sisters in faith sweets feeding
[32:54]your brothers or sisters in faith what sweets like chocolate that helps
[33:01]you in sakaratil why because we have a tradition by rasulallah which
[33:05]says that the person who feeds his brother in faith sweets will
[33:13]not taste the bitterness of death says with what with truth what
[33:27]is this truth that it has brought forward we have different interpretations
[33:31]one interpretation says the truth here is death it's that itself as
[33:39]in when you enter sakaratil or when sakaratil mount arrive you become
[33:46]certain that it's time to go it's time to leave it becomes
[33:54]clear that your time has arrived another interpretation says here is basically
[34:00]the fate of the human being the truth is his fate meaning
[34:07]what will happen to him in the hereafter in sakhara tillman people
[34:14]or to be more precise many people know from sakaratilmo what will
[34:21]happen to them in the upcoming stages of the hereafter some are
[34:29]told you have nothing to fear us you will dwell in allah's
[34:37]mercy for eternity some are told the exact opposite you will dwell
[34:44]in allah's wrath for eternity so those are two interpretations regarding what
[34:53]regarding then allah says that is what you were trying to escape
[35:04]someone will will say this to the human being just give me
[35:11]one second to open the tafsir here solanum is informing us that
[35:48]you know the human being tries to escape death but ultimately fails
[35:53]he cannot escape it or or someone at the time of that
[36:01]possibly an angel will say this to the human being telling him
[36:05]you tried to escape that but ultimately you failed what did we
[36:11]say last week or the week before some people try to escape
[36:19]death by doing what by neglecting it forgetting it if you speak
[36:26]about death they say change the topic until that does what catches
[36:33]them because you can't run away from it it's going to catch
[36:36]you one day others know they do mention it they remember it
[36:40]and they prepare for it hence when it arrives it arrives as
[36:46]they await it they're waiting for it so the moments of sakaratil
[37:14]are are difficult moments or can be difficult moments hence one has
[37:23]to prepare for these moments let us conclude today with a narration
[37:30]which explains what happens at the time of death the imam gives
[37:39]us a bit of details regarding this issue you can find the
[37:45]tradition which i sent you in the book allah to describe death
[38:04]if you remember we said a lot of our imams were asked
[38:11]what is that or about death and each one gave his own
[38:14]answer when the imam was asked scribe that for us the imam
[38:22]said he told them you have posed the question to the expert
[38:32]meaning i am the expert and i will tell you exactly what
[38:37]happens when a person dies he said that when a person dies
[38:48]he experiences one of three one of three number one he is
[39:01]given glad tidings and he's told that he will dwell in bliss
[39:07]for eternity who was told this obviously the believer who has prepared
[39:19]for the hereafter number two he is given what given terrible news
[39:31]he is told that he will dwell in punishment for eternity such
[39:40]will be the state of the disbeliever [Music] number three the person
[39:56]who's dying will encounter things that will make him sad things that
[40:06]will make him sad and things that will frighten him and he
[40:13]will not know there will be ambiguity there will be vagueness he
[40:17]will not know whether he is from the dwellers of heaven or
[40:22]the dwellers of hell but what he does know is what he
[40:26]knows he's in trouble because he he is um he faces things
[40:34]that make him sad and that frighten him so he's in trouble
[40:40]but he's not sure will the trouble last for eternity or not
[40:44]he's not sure jesus [Music] the one who was given glad tidings
[40:57]and is told that he will dwell in bliss for eternity that
[40:59]is the person who follows our commands amir al-mu'min the person who
[41:08]follows us believes in us loves us and follows our commands as
[41:22]for the person who is given terrible news he is told that
[41:27]you will dwell in punishment for eternity that is our enemy and
[41:33]the person who disobeys our commands again imam ali is talking not
[41:42]me says ask for the third person the person who encounters things
[41:59]that make him sad and frighten him and he remains unsure whether
[42:03]he will be from the dwellers of heaven or hell fire the
[42:07]imam says that person is the believer but which believer the believer
[42:12]who has committed sins meaning he has committed sins he has crossed
[42:17]his limits and has not repented because if he has repented allah
[42:24]will accept his repentance and he will be given glad tidings that's
[42:28]a given so the imam is talking about who about a believer
[42:34]who has been extravagant at sinning meaning he has sinned he has
[42:43]done injustice to himself but has not repented before it was too
[42:51]late he says he does not know what will happen in the
[42:55]future meaning in the upcoming stages of the hereafter he will he
[43:05]will be given news but that news regarding his fate will be
[43:10]what will be vague and it will be scary but it won't
[43:14]be as clear as the news given to the first two types
[43:19]of people than the imam says [Music] he says however later on
[43:31]allah won't put this believer on the same level with our enemies
[43:38]what does that mean it means even put three or four or
[43:45]ten lines under the word even even if he is placed in
[43:51]hell fire allah will take him out eventually he says [Music] allah
[44:00]will not put him on the same level with our enemies and
[44:05]allah will remove him from hell fire through our intercession so we
[44:09]understand here that the intercession of can save you before entering hell
[44:17]fire and it could save you after entering hellfire now we want
[44:22]to be from those who acquire intercession receive intercession before we enter
[44:28]hellfire in fact inshallah we want to be from those who have
[44:32]wings on day of judgement and fly to heaven without going through
[44:34]sirat or hisab or any other fright on that day then the
[44:41]imam says means acquire knowledge acquire knowledge most likely he's talking about
[44:59]religious knowledge the knowledge that you need to be saved in the
[45:04]hereafter oh acquire knowledge have elim have knowledge also another meaning for
[45:13]is have certainty so have religious knowledge and be certain that you
[45:21]are what following the right path and obey us but do not
[45:30]completely depend on our intercession so we're not supposed to depend on
[45:37]a little bit that's not what we're saying if you don't depend
[45:41]on alibaba who are you going to depend on obviously you depend
[45:45]on the intercession but the imam is saying don't completely depend on
[45:50]it as in don't do every sin in the book telling yourself
[45:55]at the end of the day will save me is because that
[46:02]might not be the case that might not be the case you
[46:05]might lose your chance of receiving the intercession of alibaba if you
[46:10]do that so he says do not [Music] says do not belittle
[46:45]allah's punishment because some sinners who dwell in hell fire who are
[46:57]believers won't be saved through our intercession until they dwell in hell
[47:05]fire for 300 000 years that is frightening in fact beyond frightening
[47:19]dwelling in jahannam for 300 000 years one cannot resist an hour
[47:30]in jahannam let alone a day let alone a year dwelling in
[47:36]jahannam for three hundred thousand years that is beyond miserable salah allah
[47:54]and so from this tradition we what what do we understand we
[47:58]understand that the states of people at the time of sakhara tillman
[48:03]differ some will be told that they have nothing to fear anymore
[48:11]some will be told they have everything to fear because it only
[48:21]gets worse after you move to the next uh stage of the
[48:27]hereafter each stage of the year after each following stage of the
[48:35]hereafter is harder than the previous one it's harder than the previous
[48:40]one so if someone is you know destined to dwell in allah's
[48:48]punishment for eternity his punishment only does what only gets worse as
[48:52]he moves from one stage to the next now whereas some people
[49:02]some people will be in between we ask allah azzawajal for the
[49:08]sake of muhammad ali to make us from the first group those
[49:12]who are given glad tidings as soon as they see malakal mode
[49:18]and they see him next week inshaallah will continue with more details
[49:23]about sakura alhamdulillah well
