[6:06][Music] the days of God when we look at the tragedy itself
[6:24]we see that there are segments that we can derive from this
[6:29]tragedy yes yesterday night in the lecture I mentioned that the tragedy
[6:35]of carala could be labeled as the human tragedy it talks about
[6:41]almost everything that we humans can experience in terms of pain in
[6:46]terms of suffering in terms of Triumph in terms of goodness in
[6:49]terms of evil if you look at it it really summarizes the
[6:54]life of the human being whether it's on a personal level your
[6:58]struggle with your own self trying to improve yourself trying to overcome
[7:03]your problems trying to defeat those difficulties and challenges that come to
[7:08]you in life it is in a sense an empowering tragedy you
[7:15]feel that the Imam was with only a few people against a
[7:18]large number of enemies and sometimes in life you experience that on
[7:24]a personal level you might feel like you've been abandoned by most
[7:28]people you might feel alone you might feel that the past that
[7:32]you take might be a path that takes you away from the
[7:35]masses but it's a path that's worst taking a lot of the
[7:40]times in our lives when we want to take a certain decision
[7:42]in our lives we're usually affected by those who are around us
[7:48]we want to fit into the masses we want to become like
[7:50]the majority of the people but that doesn't necessarily mean it's the
[7:57]right thing to do so in this tragedy it awakens up awakens
[8:01]us to this reality that sometimes the right thing to do doesn't
[8:06]lie in what the majority of the people do and it's worth
[8:12]taking that path even though you're abandoned even though you might struggle
[8:16]even though you might find hardships but at the end of the
[8:19]day that attitude which the companions of the IM had on the
[8:25]day of carala to Die With Honor is better than to live
[8:27]in shame and to live in you know look at the political
[8:33]situation that we're experiencing now you have monarchs right you have Kings
[8:38]you have leaders in the Middle East who choose to go with
[8:41]the superpowers against the oppressed individuals right now if you think about
[8:46]this these people God had given them you know a lot of
[8:51]wealth in this world now of course they've taken wealth from the
[8:54]people that's how they've amassed that wealth there's a story that is
[9:02]narrated related to muaah you know he was giving a sermon one
[9:04]time and he tells the people he quotes this verse of Allah
[9:07]subhah wa ta'ala that the treasures of Allah subhana wa ta'ala reach
[9:13]everybody so one of the people that were sitting amongst the audience
[9:19]members he stood up and he said you know this is not
[9:22]true what you're saying you're trying to tell us that you know
[9:27]because w at that time he wasn't giving everybody their uh their
[9:30]rights he would give some people more and some people less those
[9:33]who he favored he would give more and those who he did
[9:38]not favor he would give less so he was saying the sermon
[9:40]to explain to people that this division of wealth is not from
[9:46]me Allah in the Quran says that he divides this wealth from
[9:49]his treasures according to his own divisions so why are you blaming
[9:53]me so this individual that stood up said that we don't have
[9:58]any problem with Allah subhana T's divisions but we have a problem
[10:01]with your division you are in a situation or in a place
[10:07]where you have been given the authority to control this money and
[10:10]give it to people but you've abused that type of position that
[10:16]you have so it is not God who is not dividing it
[10:18]correctly rather it is you who's doing that to you're oppressing the
[10:21]people and the same thing applies to these individuals they're in a
[10:26]position where they have wealth they have power and you think about
[10:30]it what kind of Legacy are they leaving behind they're going to
[10:35]pass from this world as individuals who chose that wrong path that
[10:39]stood against those who are oppressed that supported the oppressors and this
[10:47]is unfortunately a situation that we really don't envy them for they
[10:51]decide to take that instead of taking the other path so the
[10:56]same thing applies to what muawiya was doing these individuals who are
[10:59]corrupt in their souls end up corrupting the Earth as well they
[11:04]create Injustice to other people they harm other people and if we
[11:08]look atal you know muaah was the father of yazid it began
[11:15]before yazid it was a trend that was building up to that
[11:21]point and the people that took the side of muaah and took
[11:26]the side of yazid first against IM aliam and against IM Hass
[11:31]then IM Hussein this was a gradual development that led to that
[11:37]small decisions in your life will slowly and gradually push you towards
[11:43]becoming that individual and similarly if you make small good decisions in
[11:48]your life it would also have a great effect and impact on
[11:53]the future of who you are so you might think to yourself
[11:55]that it's not a big deal if I do this little small
[12:00]small thing it's a small mistake it's not going to affect me
[12:03]that much if I do a little lie over here if I
[12:07]deceive someone over here if I don't see the truth in a
[12:11]certain area if I don't you know pay what I have to
[12:14]pay to that individual if I don't return the right amount of
[12:17]money to them I'll deceive them somehow it's just a small thing
[12:19]but of course I'm a good person this is not who I
[12:24]am it doesn't describe my character right a little mistake here and
[12:27]there is not an issue the problem is if you allow this
[12:32]one mistake to happen then you're going to allow another one to
[12:37]happen and another one to happen and the the scholars they call
[12:41]this means like a gradual not progression but a gradual degradation gradually
[12:51]and very in a very subtle manner you begin dragged into the
[12:55]bottom you don't realize it you do a small mistake over here
[13:01]you overlook it another mistake you overlook it and if you compare
[13:05]yourself five years after you start seeing that you're a whole different
[13:08]person and I think you can see this you know now now
[13:12]with the with the technology that we have everything's recorded right so
[13:16]we have videos of ourselves from five years ago we have you
[13:19]know images and photos and memories that we have I mean the
[13:23]computer and the phone even helps us with this right it pops
[13:25]up with the memory here look at your memories 5 years ago
[13:29]and you look at your yourself and you say wow I was
[13:32]a different person back then you don't realize how you've become who
[13:38]you've become because you gradually change and sometimes you look at those
[13:42]memories and you think to yourself man I was much better than
[13:44]than how I am right now and you think to yourself how
[13:48]did I get here I was the same person for the five
[13:52]years no you weren't the small things that you do in life
[13:55]affect who you are you have to be very very conscious of
[14:00]what you do you have to be very careful of what you
[14:02]do small mistakes create big changes Without You realizing this gradual change
[14:10]that happens and if you don't have some mechanism that allows you
[14:14]to check yourself every single day or every single week you're going
[14:18]to become a whole different individual without even realizing it because that
[14:23]small change that you do that small mistake that you do it
[14:26]becomes part of your character and another mistake another sin another wrongdoing
[14:33]that becomes part of your character you're creating yourself by making a
[14:38]mistake intentionally I'm talking about and saying it's not very important it's
[14:43]not true to think that way because that small mistake is part
[14:46]of those building blocks that youve put inside of yourself you create
[14:50]that character with every type of behavior every action that you do
[14:54]in your life so it's very important for us to remember that
[14:58]and K reminds us of that a lot of the individuals that
[15:00]were in the Army ofad on the evil side on the wrong
[15:09]side they were Muslims they were praying they were fasting even on
[15:14]the morning of ashur in their Camp they were praying F by
[15:18]themselves and the imam's camp were also praying F amongst themselves so
[15:24]you have two camps here both of them are praying Jama so
[15:27]these people are not claiming to be non-muslims they claim to follow
[15:32]the prophet they claim to be Muslims they claim to be good
[15:35]people they're doing aan they have an IM that they put in
[15:37]front of them they're praying so how did they reach this point
[15:42]is it something that changed them overnight no this is the work
[15:48]of years these individuals who thought that Islam is something you belong
[15:52]to just by testifying that there is no God but God and
[15:55]that Muhammad sallallah alai is his messenger then you're on the good
[16:01]side but even Allah in the Quran tells a Muslim that if
[16:03]you don't behave well then I'm going to replace you with people
[16:07]who are better than you you don't gain any type of preference
[16:12]just because you make that testimony yes it does have its benefits
[16:15]but it's not enough to make you a good individual if you
[16:21]don't apply what you have to apply what your religion teaches you
[16:24]then you would end up in the camp of and you would
[16:31]abandon IM Hussein am ald praise be praise belongs to God the
[17:47]first without a first before him and last without a last behind
[17:53]him beholders his eyes fall short of seeing him describe s imaginations
[18:01]are not able to depict him he originated the creatures through his
[18:07]power with an origination he devised them in accordance with his will
[18:14]with a devising then he made them walk on the path of
[18:17]his desire he sent them out on the way of his love
[18:23]they cannot keep back from that to which he has sent them
[18:25]forward nor can they go forward to that from from which he
[18:30]has kept them back I bear witness that there is no God
[18:38]but God with no partners and I bear witness that Muhammad is
[18:46]his messenger and prophet and servant oh Allah send your blessings upon
[18:56]Muhammad the Seal of prophets and the master of Messengers Muhammad Ali
[19:28]Al Muhammad Ali another segment of carala that we have to look
[19:47]at is the post carala segment and that is what say Zab
[19:53]peace be upon her lady Zab and IM peace be upon him
[19:58]had done after them now after the tragedy of kalala had ended
[20:02]on the outside the battle had finished the um the nation of
[20:09]Muslims at that point were shocked they were shook it's like a
[20:12]wakeup call for them they realized that they've committed such a grave
[20:16]mistake they murdered the grandson of the Prophet who the prophet had
[20:21]described to be the master of the Youth of paradise alongside his
[20:26]brother Imam Hassan peace be upon him this is not a small
[20:30]Act this is not a small mistake when you kill such an
[20:34]individual it is as if you killed the prophet himself because the
[20:38]prophet had described in many instances that Hussein is from me and
[20:46]I am from Hussein so killing the IM is killing the prophet
[20:50]himself that prophetic remaining that passed down through IM Hussein was killed
[20:56]by this nation and it was a clear indic a that this
[21:00]nation had been overcome by a disease a spiritual disease that made
[21:05]them Reach a very arrogant State they misunderstood what the message of
[21:11]Allah was and that is to purify yourself and purify your soul
[21:16]the prophet didn't come to create a cult for the people to
[21:19]belong to he didn't come to create a certain Club where if
[21:24]you join this club you have certain privileges and if you don't
[21:28]join it then you're missing out he came to create an internal
[21:31]change inside of us for all of humanity to become a Muslim
[21:37]is to become a god conscious individual is to become a good
[21:42]individual is to spread good in this world and as the situation
[21:47]is with most of human beings including us even until this day
[21:51]humans behave in a certain way and in a specific way that
[21:54]resembles the behavior of others we don't change if we don't truly
[21:59]want that change inside ourselves and we don't work towards it we're
[22:03]not going to become better people if we don't make the right
[22:07]decisions in life we're not going to have a good life we're
[22:12]going to have a bad life we have to consciously make right
[22:14]decisions we can't just say we're Muslims and that makes our lives
[22:22]perfect no it requires that belief system and it requires applying that
[22:26]belief system in our lives in order to improve ourselves IM played
[22:31]that role after the tragedy ofal he began to teach people and
[22:38]tell them to awaken them to this reality that you individuals who
[22:44]claim to be Muslims You've Lost That core identity of Islam that
[22:48]Core teaching of Islam which is your relationship with Allah subhah wa
[22:52]ta'ala the introductory Praise of God that I mentioned at the beginning
[22:56]of the sermon is taken from the Dua of IM praising Allah
[23:02]subhah wa tala it is important for us to have that correct
[23:06]relationship with God in order for us to become good Muslims if
[23:13]my relationship with God is severed if God doesn't have a role
[23:16]in my life if I go on throughout my day without thinking
[23:20]of God without being conscious of his presence in my life then
[23:24]there's something missing in my life how many times do we as
[23:30]Muslims ever since we wake up in the morning and we go
[23:32]out about through our day do we think about God in a
[23:37]conscious way when we're eating do we feel the presence of God
[23:40]when we're speaking do we feel the presence of God when I
[23:45]say something am I thinking that what comes out of my mouth
[23:48]is it something that God would be pleased with or not do
[23:53]I think that way when I'm talking most of us throughout the
[23:56]day we might not have this thought except maybe in Salat for
[24:01]even a little bit Even in our prayers we might not be
[24:03]thinking about God and this is an indication that perhaps we need
[24:09]to do some work on ourselves we have to become more god-
[24:12]conscious individuals and the way this happens is it has to be
[24:17]done through exercise and practice you know if you love Allah subhana
[24:21]wa tala if you love God and you want him to play
[24:24]a role in your life and you want to get closer to
[24:25]him then you have to do things that would strengthen that bond
[24:30]in relationship with them when you're with your friends when you're with
[24:34]your family members when you're at work the decisions that you make
[24:36]that you're already making right you're already living you're already walking you're
[24:39]already sleeping you're already eating you're already talking all you have to
[24:42]do is you have to become God conscious when you do that
[24:47]it's not like you're adding anything to your daily work you're just
[24:51]becoming more aware of your own behavior so you have to start
[24:57]out with small things you decide to you make a decision that
[25:00]when I speak I want to become more God God conscious how
[25:06]do I do that well before I utter anything to someone I
[25:09]will think about what I'm saying and I will see or imagine
[25:14]you know first we can use imagination I'll imagine that God is
[25:17]standing in front of me and he's watching over me if he
[25:22]hears me say this word is it something that would please him
[25:24]or displease him if I want to insult an individual because I'm
[25:27]angry at them I wake up in the morning or I'm going
[25:32]about my day and I'm walking around the house and someone has
[25:36]taken you know my my coffee cup they they've misplaced it or
[25:42]that's a small thing unless you're a coffee addict that's a very
[25:46]big problem if you remove the coffee cup then you know you
[25:50]might as well just murder someone it will be equal um so
[25:53]someone moves that cup and you feel like you know this is
[25:58]the most sacred thing to me how dare they touch this I
[26:00]have that thing in that place every single day and I've announced
[26:05]to the whole family that this is untouch no one touches this
[26:07]you touch it you're gone right so when you make the announcement
[26:11]God says okay this is not right so I'm going to test
[26:15]you with this I need to change you this is not the
[26:16]right attitude to have in life so he'll send your child or
[26:21]your spouse or somebody to remove that cup and you go there
[26:24]and you don't find it and you build this anger inside of
[26:29]you who's who's the the transgressor who's this criminal that I I
[26:32]want to go and kill right not literally so you build that
[26:39]anger inside of you and you think to yourself okay I need
[26:41]to go avenge this and you start justifying right you start thinking
[26:45]to yourself okay I told them they're not listening I'm the authoritative
[26:50]figure over here they cause me harm they cause me pain they
[26:53]cause me discomfort I have all the right to come out and
[26:58]release my anger at these individuals but in reality that's not true
[27:02]you don't have any right to do that yes you may be
[27:05]bothered but the crime that they have committed doesn't justify this type
[27:12]of anger or behavior I'm just using this as an example but
[27:14]throughout our lives we have many examples that are similar to this
[27:16]right so what you do at that point is you have to
[27:22]calm yourself down first if you find that you're angry don't react
[27:26]immediately to that thing that just happened allow yourself to cool down
[27:32]and yes you will cool down if you move away from the
[27:34]situation you sit down in your room you don't go ahead and
[27:38]try to find that individual after 5 to 10 minutes you will
[27:43]cool down because anger is like that fire or that water that's
[27:49]boiling as long as you're in that situation it's still on the
[27:51]fire but if you remove it from the stove and you put
[27:54]it on the side it's going to be boil for a little
[27:55]bit but eventually it's going to cool down so the first thing
[28:00]that you have to do is you have to remove yourself from
[28:04]that situation remove yourself from the stove top and allow yourself to
[28:09]cool down a little bit and then once you cool down you
[28:12]have to think about how you're going to address the situation you're
[28:16]going to talk to that individual and you're going to tell them
[28:19]you know first of all why did he do this was there
[28:22]a reason for it maybe there's a reason that they do this
[28:24]thing right A lot of the times you know we get angry
[28:29]at situation without knowing the reason behind it so the first thing
[28:32]that we have to do if we want to be God conscious
[28:35]individuals and I'm talking about this in order for us to use
[28:38]to train ourselves because we're thinking how would God want me to
[28:43]deal with this situation of course he would want me first of
[28:45]all to give the benefit of the doubt right he doesn't want
[28:48]me to be this very critical negative individual the first thing that
[28:52]I have to do is I have to give excuses for those
[28:54]individuals maybe they were using that spot in order to cook for
[28:59]the house or in order to you know fix something there must
[29:01]have been a reason for them to move this cup right so
[29:05]you give an excuse you give the benefit of the doubt once
[29:07]you do that it will begin to change your attitude from a
[29:12]very negative one from anger to a more compassionate empathetic understanding attitude
[29:19]once you do that you have to go to that individual and
[29:22]you know confront them but in a good way either by asking
[29:28]them you know um did you my my cup that I place
[29:29]over there and if they say you know yes I did tell
[29:34]them oh you know if you want to fight yourself then you
[29:37]can tell them that oh I'm sure you had a reason to
[29:39]remove it you justify the action for them this is very difficult
[29:43]when you're in that situation to create the justification for the other
[29:47]individual that's this is a very very difficult thing to do because
[29:51]what you want to do is you want to blame them right
[29:52]you want to insult them you want to put them down but
[29:55]you have to counter that and you counter it by doing the
[29:58]opposite action you say okay I'm sure you had a reason to
[30:02]do this um but you know if possible next time would would
[30:05]it be possible for you to inform me before you do that
[30:09]or if you know you do it next time you know make
[30:13]sure to put it back where it was you know create that
[30:15]change in your behavior be more godc conscious in the way you
[30:21]address your challenges and difficulties with other people and if you do
[30:26]that your whole life will change and if you look at your
[30:29]memories back you know you get that picture or that video you
[30:33]know from 5 years ago it would be much nicer 5 years
[30:35]later to say wow I was I was really a furious and
[30:40]angry individual alhamdulillah I'm a much much better person now I have
[30:43]a much better life I have more calmness inside of me I'm
[30:48]more tranquil wouldn't that be a much better situation to be in
[30:51]than to see yourself right now and look back at how you
[30:56]were and say you know I'm much worse than how I was
[30:58]or maybe I haven't changed at all so in order to create
[31:03]that change we have to be God conscious and IM through his
[31:06]prayers and supplications that he has in teaches us to do this
[31:12]change I ask Allah subhana wa tala to open up our hearts
[31:15]and our souls in order to realize what is best for us
[31:21]and to remind us help us become reminded every single day to
[31:25]become better individuals so that we don't move on in life and
[31:29]look back and have regret that we have not progressed in our
[31:33]spiritual life all
