[0:07][Music] so [Music] what is the or the spirit according to islamic
[0:48]theology specifically the one that is mentioned alongside the angelic dissension of
[0:58]the night of destiny when allah subhanahu wa allah states in the
[1:06]holy quran bismillah are the angels and the upon it the night
[1:29]of destiny scholars are in disagreement and quranic exegetes are not in
[1:40]consensus between different schools of thought and even within the same schools
[1:47]multiple opinions have been proposed by various researchers and scholars regarding the
[1:53]identity of this creation the that descends alongside the angels upon one
[2:01]of the most if not the most holy night in the islamic
[2:08]calendar some have proposed that the is a creation alongside the angels
[2:18]but is not an angel similar to shaytan the devil a creation
[2:27]before being banished and exiled from the heavens alongside the angels worshiping
[2:37]allah but was not an angel came from a different essence and
[2:41]a different nature and the evidence for this opinion can be found
[2:48]in the same verse the angels descend if the was another angel
[3:00]then that would be redundant having already stated the entirety of the
[3:06]angelic world would descend in addition this angel will also come down
[3:12]as well therefore the rule is a creation alongside the angels but
[3:21]is not an angel a second opinion suggests that the is what
[3:29]we call in english the soul and those who espouse this opinion
[3:37]cite another verse of the holy quran to support their argument it
[3:43]is a soul that descends alongside the angels on leilatul because allah
[3:51]in another verse of the holy quran says when the holy prophet
[3:57]of islam sallallahu alaihi wasallam was received by the jewish community who
[4:02]wanted to verify the authenticity of his prophethood came to the holy
[4:10]prophet with a series of questions they had prepared when a prophet
[4:20]claimant emerges there are multiple questions to ask to verify the legitimacy
[4:26]of that prophethood one of them was regarding the reality of the
[4:32]soul and the one correct answer is that there is not much
[4:41]information made available regarding the soul they were expecting that answer when
[4:44]they questioned the holy prophet of islam the quran gave the reply
[4:56]yes they ask you about the soul state the soul is from
[5:02]the affairs of my lord the nourisher allah and you have not
[5:12]gotten information regarding it except very little which was the correct answer
[5:22]they were waiting for therefore the is the same soul that inhabits
[5:32]this body when a soul inhabits a body that creation is known
[5:39]as a nafs when the soul separates from the body upon death
[5:44]the soul independently is known as therefore on the night of destiny
[5:54]the angels come down with a soul a third opinion suggested that
[6:02]it's not a soul nor is it some other creation in fact
[6:08]it's not even something that is a being nor is conscious rather
[6:16]it's abstract the rule here means a covenant a decree an expectation
[6:23]an order a demand from allah subhanahu wa what's the evidence another
[6:31]verse of the holy quran referring to the holy prophet of islam
[6:38]the quran stated and we likewise have revealed to you an inspiration
[6:47]from our order our command rohan min amrina so the revelation the
[6:52]wahi here was referred to as a ruler therefore the angels when
[7:03]they descend during the night of destiny what do they descend doing
[7:07]anyways they descend with an order they have a command a covenant
[7:12]from allah what's that order to come forth with the destiny of
[7:19]all of humanity that's why it's known as because the destiny of
[7:25]humanity of man and womankind of every living creation and the traditions
[7:30]even state that from the animal kingdom and the plaque kingdom everything's
[7:37]destiny will be presented and written and determined on that night how
[7:44]long a person will live how many kids a person will have
[7:48]who a person will marry how much sustenance will a person receive
[7:54]for the next year until the next night of destiny this is
[8:00]a demand a command that the angels are expected to fulfill therefore
[8:11]is in reference to the expectation that allah subhanahu wa ta'ala wants
[8:19]to be fulfilled another opinion was no it is a creation that
[8:28]is far greater than any creation that has been made the exception
[8:33]of the holy prophet and his family it's greater than gabriel it's
[8:39]greater than michael and it's the rule that is being referenced in
[8:43]this verse in fact it's so significant that gabriel and michael descend
[8:51]to the earth and they came down before multiple times this creation
[8:57]only comes once every year on the night of destiny to highlight
[9:03]the significance of see this grand creation known far greater than all
[9:11]the angels combined it even descends on this night so how epic
[9:14]is the night of destiny and those who have supported this opinion
[9:19]cite ahadith that can be found in al-qafi a sharif by a
[9:27]sheikh the tradition is narrated by abu-basir from is asked regarding the
[9:48]identity of the during laila leila and he says it's not gabriel
[9:54]rather it's a creation far greater it's not gabriel nor is it
[10:00]michael it's something much greater different than these and it comes only
[10:05]on the night of destiny while these are authentic ahadith scholars have
[10:18]looked into these traditions and have analyzed them a authentic tradition is
[10:27]not exempt from further examination that is why such as one of
[10:37]our most esteemed scholars the compiler of majmar al-bayan feet of syria
[10:47]quran have questioned the reliability of this tradition even though it's found
[10:54]twice in el cafe and it's narrated by very reliable individuals and
[10:59]ali bin ibrahim to abu basil the companion of the imam these
[11:05]ulama have every right to question traditions that are even authentic why
[11:12]because they are considered classical scholars scholars in the theology of the
[11:21]school of bait there are two types of scholars and they are
[11:32]separated by who's in the middle the scholars who are what demean
[11:38]are those who've lived closer during the times of the ahlulbayt and
[11:43]if they question the validity of a tradition even if it's correct
[11:48]we will consider their opinion to be worthy why because perhaps they
[11:55]had access to sources manuscripts that we don't have access to today
[11:59]because there have been many works written by grant or like a
[12:06]sadhu or tulsi that have been burnt and destroyed that we don't
[12:10]have today so that's why we differentiate the type of scholars and
[12:14]categorize them between latter scholars and earlier scholars and at the middle
[12:25]is therefore and others have every right to question those traditions that
[12:33]are even considered authentic and they in their works of quranic exegesis
[12:39]whether it's a tibian feet of syrian quran of they refer to
[12:49]the rule as gabriel himself according to them and even contemporary is
[13:03]this for multiple reasons to address the redundancy dilemma having already mentioned
[13:14]the entirety of the angelic world why would it be necessary to
[13:22]state that another angel will also be descending on this day is
[13:25]that not redundant these ulama respond well we've seen this before furthermore
[13:33]gabriel is not like any other angel don't forget gabriel is special
[13:41]first and foremost he was the angel dispatched personally to the greatest
[13:47]of allah's creation it would only make logical sense that the greatest
[13:53]of allah's creation rasulullah muhammad sallallahu alaihi receives the greatest of all
[14:00]angels don't forget rasulullah when he would address gabriel he gave him
[14:07]titles that are so personal the likes of which we've only heard
[14:12]being used towards imam ali abner my brother my love gabriel i
[14:22]can only think of emir who's received such beautiful personal titles highlighting
[14:31]gabriel's closeness to the holy prophet muhammad and the verse is trying
[14:40]to highlight the significance of when you say that all the angels
[14:46]are coming down that is a very big deal but is gabriel
[14:49]also coming down this is the prophet's personal angel how would it
[14:56]make someone feel knowing that a person today saw the holy prophet
[15:01]muhammad with their own eyes we would venerate such a person you
[15:08]were lucky you must have been honored to see the holy prophet
[15:12]imagine if a companion of sahabi lived until today and they saw
[15:16]the holy prophet well guess what gabriel on the night of destiny
[15:21]saw the holy prophet and will be coming down upon humanity so
[15:25]that's a big deal so gabriel is not like any other angel
[15:28]the angel that was personally dispatched to your prophet was also going
[15:33]to come down how grand is this night then even gabriel will
[15:55]come down we've seen that the angel gabriel can be mentioned after
[16:04]having mentioned the entirety of angels before when allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
[16:09]talks about whoever is in enmity with him his angels so his
[16:30]angels the entirety and all of his messengers gabriel and michael when
[16:36]you've already mentioned the angels wouldn't it be redundant to say that
[16:40]gabriel is also a condition no it's not because gabriel is not
[16:48]like any other angel so is michael as well so to mention
[16:56]is not in any way redundant whatsoever rather it's to highlight the
[17:03]significance of this ruler who can this be these the classical scholars
[17:11]have also proposed other evidence they stayed amongst the most notable titles
[17:20]of gabriel is what ar find any other angel that was called
[17:25]a rule besides allah it being the holy quran was descended to
[17:41]you by the trustworthy spirit gabriel so that you can be a
[17:48]warner where it was descended where did it come down it came
[17:51]to the heart of the holy prophet who has that honor whoever
[18:02]does must be someone of close proximity to the holy prophet of
[18:07]islam it happened to be and everyone agrees that this was gabriela
[18:12]nasa the sanctified purified soul as gabriel again traditions all speak of
[18:29]this furthermore allah refers to jibril as his soul in the event
[18:44]when lady maryam was seeking seclusion from society dealing with that burden
[18:53]and anxiety allah sent and dispatched his soul rohana but it's not
[18:59]a soul as we discover it's jibrael who came to her because
[19:03]what happened afterwards fatah meth he came in a very well proportioned
[19:10]appealing person because she was dealing without that struggle of society and
[19:18]the anxiety that she had allah sent her someone who she could
[19:23]feel at ease with in their company but who was this do
[19:31]the scholars not all agree this was gabriel what was the term
[19:35]that was being used rohana spirit furthermore this combination of malaika is
[19:52]found in other verses it's important to remember that the angels do
[20:02]not precede allah in speech this is significant that they do not
[20:13]precede allah in speech and they upon his orders always fulfill so
[20:20]they do not precede allah speech this is the angel and in
[20:24]this verse the angel speaked they do not precede allah in speech
[20:31]this is important because in another verse allah refers to the group
[20:36]of angels in the same similar manner that the angels and the
[20:54]rule will be risen in rows la yata that they do not
[21:15]speak except whomever the all-merciful has granted permission to yo will be
[21:28]risen in rose they will not precede allah in speech they will
[21:33]not speak until allah gave them permission in the last verse allah
[21:38]made clear that the angels do not precede him in speech and
[21:40]these are all the angels the also doesn't perceive allah and speech
[21:43]has the quality of the angels of allah mentioned constantly alongside the
[21:49]angels of allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and there's only one angel that
[21:55]carries that title and is significant enough to be excluded as the
[22:01]greatest of the archangels of allah subhanahu ta'ala and that is none
[22:05]other than however it will not alter a person's theology or akida
[22:14]if they decide to adopt a different opinion at the end of
[22:19]the day these are opinions that have been presented by the and
[22:21]a person's faith in their lord will not be altered if they
[22:26]actually believe this is gabriel or they believe it's a greater creation
[22:31]at the end of the day it's up for everyone to study
[22:38]the holy book to come up with their own results with the
[22:43]help of these scholars of bait with the help of the adherbate
[22:47]themselves and appreciating the valuable lessons allah has given us if this
[22:57]is gabriel or if it's not doesn't matter because at the end
[23:02]of the day if all the angels are coming down then gabriel
[23:05]surely is coming down as well and on that day of destiny
[23:11]it gives us solace knowing that an angel that saw rasulullah will
[23:18]also descend whoever this must be of high caliber such that the
[23:26]night of destiny has this creation and every other angel of god
[23:30]descend upon it if this is how high and significant the angels
[23:38]and the rooh is then what about the night of destiny that
[23:41]has them descending upon it once every year wasallam alaykum jamie rahmatullahi
