This episode of Building Our Aqeedah explores the concept of fitrah, our innate nature that naturally guides every human being toward belief in Allah (SWT). Through Quranic examples, reflections on human experience, and insights from 50 Principles for Youth, the lecture explains why the search for God is embedded within us, how moments of hardship awaken our inner recognition of the Divine, and why faith cannot be erased—only suppressed. By understanding ourselves, we begin to understand our Lord, and this session highlights how the inward journey becomes one of the clearest paths to knowing Allah. May this reminder strengthen your spirituality and deepen your connection to Him.

[0:10]Alhamdulillah.
[0:21]for the right.
[0:51]Alhamdulillah.
[0:59]Alhamdulillah.
[1:10]Hallelujah.
[1:52]Dear brothers, sisters and respected scholars.
[1:58]We continue our discussions which we've had in in our last few
[2:09]gatherings in regards to reading through the book of in his 50
[2:16]principles for youth.
[2:19]In this book looks through important aspects through which we have to
[2:28]understand in terms of when it comes to our beliefs.
[2:33]We've discussed this in our last two sessions that first to truly
[2:39]defend our beliefs or truly accept it we have to break it
[2:45]down and start from zero.
[2:45]And in our first two sessions, in our first session, we discussed
[2:49]why we need to search for God.
[2:53]And we said among them, we said that the reasons are that
[2:57]insan wants to protect himself from any kind of difficulties.
[3:00]If there are any is if there's anyone who's asking and saying
[3:05]that this is the truth, it's obligatory on a person to search
[3:09]for that path.
[3:11]And among those others we said that it is within our own
[3:13]nature to search.
[3:16]And last gathering we discussed on the importance of knowing God.
[3:23]When someone knows God, what kind of differences do they see in
[3:26]their lives?
[3:28]Are they the same person or not?
[3:29]And the core of our discussions was in finding peace a sense
[3:33]of responsibility and a need to search through through science to because
[3:40]when we understand there's a god we understand that I need to
[3:43]search for his signs and in his signs are within the world
[3:49]and within ourselves.
[3:49]Allah subhana wa ta'ala says in the Quran with that said it's
[3:55]an important way that we can introduce our topic today.
[3:58]Our topic today is the discussion of clear ways that we can
[4:06]find God.
[4:08]So we said Allah's signs are within the world and within ourselves.
[4:12]And in this ayah of the Quran, it helps us understand that
[4:16]there are two ways you can know God.
[4:19]Ayati says that there is an outward way and an inward way.
[4:26]Let's dissect it and understand first what we mean by the inward
[4:29]way.
[4:30]What does it mean to know God through yourself?
[4:34]Ask yourself if I know myself, how can I know God?
[4:39]We we know there's a very famous saying from he who knows
[4:48]himself knows his lord.
[4:51]So when we understand ourselves only then can we understand Allah subhana
[4:55]wa tala.
[5:04]>> So what does it mean to search inward?
[5:08]The meaning of that is ara.
[5:12]Simple enough.
[5:12]One simple word that we need to understand tonight.
[5:16]Fifthra, our divine nature to search for God.
[5:21]A divine nature that can never be extinguished.
[5:23]It always exists for everyone from the beginning of time to today.
[5:30]Scholars say that every single human being, no matter what race, no
[5:33]matter what class in society, no matter where they're born, no matter
[5:36]what time they were born in to from the beginning of Adam
[5:42]to today, every single human being has had a need for a
[5:45]search towards a higher power.
[5:49]We can see that this is natural.
[5:52]Many people they will say that no, that's not something that exists.
[5:54]We'll look towards what this means in When a human is in
[6:02]search for truth, they know they have to find the ultimate source
[6:05]of truth.
[6:07]And philosophers throughout time have been using this word of truth.
[6:11]What is this h?
[6:14]Well, we know that no matter what that search for truth can
[6:17]never be removed.
[6:19]It's possible that sometimes as a result of living within a certain
[6:27]society where something is pushed to go against that fyra, it becomes
[6:31]smaller but never extinguished.
[6:34]Every single moment you search, you find that there's always existed a
[6:42]state in which humans have tried to find God.
[6:44]There are many times where we find ourselves falling into the material
[6:48]world and >> you know people's fra becomes weaker but we understand
[6:57]that no matter what in moments of difficulties when does it arise
[7:01]when they have no one else to call to when people fall
[7:07]into a hole whether it's an earthquake whether it's a thunderstorm whether
[7:13]they're fear fearful for their lives and they realize there's nothing that
[7:17]I can personally do.
[7:18]They find themselves calling to a higher power to save them because
[7:25]at the end of the day it's been pre-programmed, right?
[7:27]For example, when you have a computer you buy from the store,
[7:32]they program it ahead of time.
[7:33]So when you turn on, you can add files and whatever, but
[7:35]there's always going to be that beginning program that exists with the
[7:39]computer.
[7:39]So just like that Allah has given that peace for us so
[7:46]that no matter what we can always have that fra within us
[7:49]and history shows that there were powerful rulers who have tried to
[7:53]control that fra try to remove that voice in their ear within
[8:00]their hearts asking them towards Allah and what's the most famous story
[8:04]of all the story of >> the story of shows that Someone
[8:10]like who tries to find his way from that who tries to
[8:17]deceive himself.
[8:17]>> He says there's no need for God because I am God
[8:21]myself.
[8:22]This is saying this.
[8:25]He says I've taken that position and I myself am now God.
[8:29]We understand of course that that's blatantly false and that's incorrect.
[8:34]But he falls himself into so much power in which he deceives
[8:41]himself that there's no need for a higher power that every single
[8:44]power that he has it's within his own hands but we can
[8:50]see how Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala shows that he's not there is
[8:54]no power within him there's only a power with Allah subhana wa
[8:57]ta'ala and in that way he saves Moses and drowns and interestingly
[9:04]enough let's look at At this point, in that moment in which
[9:08]the sea is about to engulf him, he's about to completely drown
[9:12]within that water.
[9:14]Who does he call to in that moment?
[9:17]Does he call to himself?
[9:19]No.
[9:19]Himself calls towards Allah.
[9:22]And we have the verse of the Quran.
[9:25]He says what?
[9:38]We carried the children of across the sea and his troops they
[9:44]tried to pursue him in their defiance in their aggression when overtaken
[9:49]by drowning.
[10:00]He says that in that moment where I'm about to drown he
[10:06]says I believe in the lord who the children of isra didn't
[10:10]believe in so in that moment where he realizes that there's nothing
[10:17]else to save him he falls to his fra as we said
[10:19]gets awakened in your moment of difficulty and when realizes that he
[10:25]is going to die In that moment he knows that the only
[10:28]power there is for Allah subhanahu >> there are times yourself where
[10:42]you can ask yourself that [clears throat] when I've been in mo
[10:46]moments of trials and moments of difficulties when I had no one
[10:50]else to ask for help for we see that even within our
[10:53]own lives there exists that fit that becomes the strongest When we
[10:57]have an important task, let's say it's a test, let's say it's
[11:02]one of the most important decisions of your life.
[11:03]Many people they find themselves asking a higher power.
[11:10][clears throat] And now the discussion gets turned over here.
[11:13]We say, what if this isn't pre-coded?
[11:17]This isn't innate nature.
[11:19]What if it's something that society's told you that you've been told
[11:25]that this is your nature and as a result of being told
[11:27]and told and told and told it's been ingrained into your head
[11:31]to believe in God and as a result in the moment of
[11:32]difficulty you ask for that God is worse.
[11:36]Many people have asked that.
[11:40]So let's answer that question.
[11:41]Could it be that this that we discussed about is something that
[11:44]is taught to us over time as a result of learning?
[11:49]We answer that very simply.
[11:54]Customs change.
[11:52]We cannot find a custom that has existed throughout history among all
[11:58]times.
[11:59]For instance, a love of a mother is fit.
[12:03]No mother is taught to love their son or daughter.
[12:07]But we can see that There's never been a time where a
[12:15]mother had to be taught to love their child.
[12:16]Even in moments of difficulties, right?
[12:18]Even in in Arabia where daughters would be uh put into the
[12:24]ground and they would be buried alive.
[12:27]Even in those moments, the mothers would be against it.
[12:31]So we can see that no mother will ever need to be
[12:36]taught that you should love your child.
[12:38]And in that same manner we can see that this has always
[12:43]existed and fra is in the same manner.
[12:46]Go throughout history, go throughout time and look through different moments in
[12:52]which there have been societies that have existed.
[12:56]And you find that in every single time, in every single age,
[13:00]every single corner of the world, there is a group of people
[13:03]who look towards something, right?
[13:08]Who look towards something that they call upon.
[13:09]Whether we see in Amazonian tribes or among those people who are
[13:17]the natives in Canada, they still believed in a power, they might
[13:21]call it nature or so.
[13:21]They might call it something else.
[13:23]And today we see that those people who are materialized or those
[13:28]who don't believe in God, they'll see something else.
[13:30]I think you might have noticed that this uh more recently or
[13:34]so in the past few years.
[13:35]They say I don't believe in God but I believe in a
[13:39]level of spirituality that's in the universe that if I call to
[13:44]something I'll get it.
[13:44]So they've discarded the belief in a god within the frameworks of
[13:51]religion but they still believe in a higher power.
[13:53]The universe they might call it nature they might call it.
[13:58]So we can see that no matter what it's always existed that
[14:02]there has been a sense of a need whether that is towards
[14:08]Allah or to something else it's always existed within humanity every time
[14:13]and every place >> and of course Allah subhana wa ta'ala says
[14:29]Allah says that we are closer to them than their jugular vein.
[14:35]So Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is always close and sometimes we don't
[14:39]feel it but in our moments of need we do realize it.
[14:43]And I do want to end off here tonight with the limited
[14:44]time I have with a story to understand.
[14:48]And this is a story that writes within his book of the
[14:56]principles for youth.
[14:55]There's a minister that exists within a time.
[14:59]This is a true story.
[14:59]There's a minister who exists that during that time when there were
[15:04]gatherings and so and there were religious scholars, he would make fun
[15:11]of them.
[15:12]He would say what is it you guys believe these fairy tales
[15:14]or so that I have got to this position as a minister
[15:19]as a result of my own power.
[15:20]No one forced me.
[15:23]No one.
[15:24]I didn't ask for anyone to give it to me and I
[15:26]got here and I have all of these all of this wealth
[15:31]that I've accumulated and all this power I've accumulated and as a
[15:36]result I don't need a god.
[15:38]These scholars that are within this gathering they realize that this person
[15:42]is not going to listen to it and they know that if
[15:47]they say anything there's no effect.
[15:49]As we know there's a principle within that if you don't believe
[15:55]that it's going to make a change you don't need to do
[15:57]that in that moment.
[15:59]So they follow this principle and the scholars they remain silent as
[16:02]a result of his arrogance.
[16:03]They say this person is arrogant.
[16:04]There's no need for us to try to bicker with him or
[16:09]try to argue with him.
[16:10]So they allow him.
[16:13]The minister leaves this gathering and we find a bit of time
[16:16]later the minister fights with someone or he curses someone and the
[16:20]ruler of that country of that kingdom puts him in jail.
[16:27]So because of course the ruler can decide whatever he wants.
[16:29]He says I don't like this minister.
[16:33]He said something rude.
[16:33]I'm going to throw them in prison.
[16:36]So this minister is then in prison and he falls in there
[16:41]and he sits there for a while and one of the scholars
[16:43]within that gathering they say you know what let me visit him
[16:48]and ask him about this now not to gloat in a way
[16:50]or say oh look at where you are now but let me
[16:53]talk to him maybe in this moment that he's lost his power
[16:58]hisra has become stronger so he goes and he asks to visit
[17:01]him and he goes there and he goes to the prison to
[17:05]the cell in which that minister is sitting there.
[17:08]And this is a long while after this long while he sees
[17:13]that this minister, he's just walking back and forth in his cell
[17:16]and he starts to talk to him.
[17:18]And when he talks to him, the minister says something really profound
[17:23]and we'll we'll finish off with this and understand the position of
[17:29]Allah and our own power in this.
[17:31]He says that we are like flags.
[17:36]A flag, for example, of a lion will start to, you know,
[17:41]look like it's going to attack.
[17:43]It's moving, right?
[17:45]The flag is moving and it seems very strong.
[17:48]The lion that's on a flag, it starts to move, right?
[17:51]And it looks, wow, it looks very beautiful up there.
[17:56]But then in a moment where the wind stops that flag it
[17:59]starts to fall down.
[18:03]He says that I thought that I was that lion that was
[18:06]very strong but I didn't realize that the true power was within
[18:12]the wind itself.
[18:11]And what is that wind?
[18:15]Allah subhana wa ta'ala.
[18:16]So we can understand that our power is with us but there
[18:22]is no power and there is no force except for Allah subhanahu
[18:25]wa ta'ala.
[18:26]So let's finish off here in understanding that this [clears throat] fitra
[18:31]that exists is within ingrained within us that no matter which time
[18:35]or which place it doesn't ever leave us and this is one
[18:38]way we can find God we can find Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
[18:42]as a result of searching within ourselves and only within ourselves do
[18:47]we find God so join me inshallah in the following gatherings that
[18:50]we have in the next few weeks in which [clears throat] we
[18:54]learn the outward way how can I learn Allah Allah subhana wa
[18:57]ta'ala through looking at the universe around me.
