[0:05]i begin in the name of the almighty god the compassionate the
[0:12]merciful the one who has created everything in utmost perfection and may
[0:16]the peace and blessings of the almighty god be upon his pure
[0:22]and beloved messenger the peak of his creation the symbol of humanity
[0:26]the holy prophet muhammad and his immaculate progeny of the bait peace
[0:38]be upon them especially the leader of our time the awaited savior
[0:42]al-imam al-m may allah hasten his reappearance and make us all amongst
[0:50]the sincere and dedicated servants allah subhanahu ta'ala states in the holy
[0:57]quran in surah and we have brought down the book meaning the
[1:08]holy quran in truth this quran comes to confirm other previous scriptures
[1:22]such as the torah and the injil the torah and the bible
[1:29]allah subhanahu ta'ala not to contradict them but to confirm them but
[1:37]the quran is superior it's the final word of god and it's
[1:42]the actual word of allah subhanahu wa ta'ala illuminate your hearts and
[1:48]minds with a loud salawat allah with over 2 billion followers today
[1:58]christianity is the largest religion on the face of the planet and
[2:04]undoubtedly the most widely circulated book is the bible according to some
[2:11]statistics over 5 billion copies have been printed and distributed so far
[2:16]every single year about 100 million copies of the bible are given
[2:23]freely to people sponsored by multiple christian organizations and the bible has
[2:32]been translated to a staggering 700 languages so undoubtedly the bible has
[2:42]had the greatest impact on western civilization the single book the single
[2:47]most book that has had the greatest impact on western civilization is
[2:52]the bible now there are many christians who ask us you muslims
[3:00]don't you recognize prophet jesus you recognize him as a prophet you
[3:04]believe in him then why don't you follow our bible because our
[3:08]bible is basically the teachings of jesus and if you really follow
[3:14]jesus you have to follow the bible why is it that we
[3:16]muslims are critical of the bible we don't believe that it's fully
[3:20]authentic why isn't this a book from god so in our discussion
[3:27]tonight we will examine the authenticity of the bible this is a
[3:31]very important discussion for us to know my dear brothers and sisters
[3:34]we will be evaluating and critiquing the bible and in critiquing the
[3:40]bible in no way are we disrespecting the beliefs of our fellow
[3:44]christian friends we respect them i myself i do a lot of
[3:47]interfaith work with them but at the same time i need to
[3:51]know why i'm a muslim and i follow the quran and i
[3:53]believe that only the quran is the true word of god that's
[3:59]authentic a hundred percent it's the only fully reliable book that you
[4:03]can seek guidance from i as a muslim i need to explain
[4:07]that and i need to be proud of that so we have
[4:10]to know what is the concern with the bible and why is
[4:17]it that we muslims do not follow the bible as the word
[4:22]of god as the authentic source of religious guidance even though it
[4:25]has a lot of good teachings but we don't consider it to
[4:27]be a fully authentic book what is the problem that we have
[4:31]with the bible as some people ask us my dear brothers and
[4:36]sisters whenever we follow something we must have elm anyakin we must
[4:40]have certainty my religion is my most important dimension in life i
[4:46]cannot follow religion blindly everything everything you believe in you must have
[4:51]evidence even we as muslims as followers of adebay everything we believe
[4:54]in we must have evidence when we follow something there is nothing
[4:59]called blind faith just accept this for instance the trinity i myself
[5:06]i've asked many christians about this pastors seminarians i've asked them about
[5:11]the trinity i told them i really want to understand the trinity
[5:13]how does it work jesus would pray no one denies that he
[5:17]commanded his people to also pray when he would pray what was
[5:24]he praying to if you say he's god or he's divine or
[5:27]he's part of god then how is he praying to himself or
[5:33]to something else i want to understand when jesus would pray was
[5:36]he praying to himself does that make sense to pray to yourself
[5:41]or was he praying to another entity if he's praying to another
[5:45]entity that means he is not part of that entity so how
[5:47]does it work i've asked many christians about this and honestly i
[5:51]tell you every time they say look we know it's complicated and
[5:56]you know they just beat around the bush and they tell you
[5:58]just you just have to accept it that's how it is it's
[6:04]complicated i want to follow something that's clear this is the foundation
[6:07]of my faith i'm not going to have blind faith when it
[6:10]comes to the foundation of my faith yes once i establish the
[6:15]foundation whatever the prophet tells me i accept it i don't challenge
[6:17]it but the core of religion must be something that you rationalize
[6:21]you have yakin about you have certainty we muslims follow the quran
[6:28]because we have certainty this book is from god we have a
[6:31]connected chain to the prophet salallahu and every muslim should know this
[6:35]if someone tells you how do you know this quran is from
[6:39]god aside from the miracles that we find in the quran which
[6:41]we have discussed in our previous programs i know this word this
[6:47]book comes from the prophet sallallahu alaihi because thousands of companions they
[6:52]heard this directly from the prophet they memorized the entire quran and
[6:59]they passed it to the later generations i have a connected chain
[7:01]all the way to the prophet where hundreds and thousands in each
[7:05]generation they memorized the quran they wrote the quran and we can
[7:11]trace it back to the prophet sallallahu alaihi even modern science has
[7:17]confirmed to us that the quran goes back to the era of
[7:20]the prophet i invite you all to read the study published by
[7:25]the university of birmingham in the uk in their museum they have
[7:31]parts of the quran they have the earliest recorded quran that we
[7:39]know of on pages written in the very ancient arabic text without
[7:44]the dots without the harakat i i saw parts of that and
[7:50]you could read it if you're familiar with the quran you could
[7:53]easily read it they did carbon dating on these pages to see
[7:58]what era does this come from so using carbon dating to figure
[8:04]out when these pages were actually compiled they were able and these
[8:10]are non-muslim scientists by the way they were able to trace back
[8:12]the quran to the very era of the prophet sallallahu alaihi they
[8:18]said through carbon dating we can prove that this goes back to
[8:20]the era of muhammad sallallahu alaihi so i have evidence if you
[8:25]ask me as a muslim who said your prophet said these words
[8:27]maybe people made them up maybe people twisted them i i'll tell
[8:32]you i even have scientific evidence and when you read those manuscripts
[8:37]contained in that museum it's the exact same quran that we read
[8:40]today not a letter has changed subhanallah allah has indeed protected the
[8:45]holy quran from changes but now let's discuss the bible what is
[8:49]the authenticity of the bible today when you ask christians they tell
[8:53]you no the bible is the word of god in the sense
[8:59]that god inspired the authors of the bible to write it god
[9:03]inspired them so we accept it as holy scripture yes jesus did
[9:07]not write it they say others wrote it after him but they
[9:11]were inspired by god by the way we muslims believe allah did
[9:15]sent a book on isa alaihissalam it's called the injil the evangel
[9:19]the evangel means good news it brought good news to humanity believe
[9:25]in god you'll be saved prophet islam brought good news to his
[9:29]community so that's the meaning of injeel and that's the meaning of
[9:36]gospel when you hear christians say gospels it means bringing good news
[9:38]about jesus and salvation now christians don't recognize that an actual book
[9:45]was given to jesus by god they say no the holy scripture
[9:49]is basically the bible that was compiled after jesus but we muslims
[9:54]believe allah sent the injil on jesus just like he sent to
[9:57]the torah on moses peace be upon them all but unfortunately that
[10:03]actual copy did not survive history and we believe that's when our
[10:09]imam al-imam sharif reappears he will bring back the original bible that
[10:17]allah sent on prophet isa but christians say no there is no
[10:21]such book the bible is basically those authors of the bible who
[10:25]wrote it but god inspired them so now this is their claim
[10:31]god inspired them let's analyze this academically let's analyze this intellectually and
[10:37]we'll look at two stages of the bible the first stage is
[10:41]the earliest record of christianity in the bible and then we'll look
[10:45]at the second stage the first stage begins with paul the earliest
[10:50]record that's written about christianity and the christian faith is the epistles
[10:55]of paul saint paul they call him he wrote many chapters of
[11:03]the bible and he wrote it during which era he wrote it
[11:08]starting from the year 50 a.d until 60 60 something so during
[11:12]that decade from the year 50 to the 60s he wrote the
[11:16]bible many parts of the bible are written by paul here you
[11:22]have a challenge the challenge is prophet isa alaihissalam according to what
[11:27]christians believe you know he was they they say he was crucified
[11:31]of course we don't accept that they say he was crucified year
[11:36]30 to 36 during those years the crucifixion happened so when paul
[11:41]is writing the bible how many years after prophet jesus is he
[11:45]writing the bible at least 15 to 20 years at least 15
[11:51]to 20 years he's writing it he's writing the bible after jesus
[11:57]so our academic question is what is the source of paul why
[12:01]do i trust paul is telling me all the truth because paul
[12:06]never lived with jesus he was not one of the disciples of
[12:13]jesus in fact he never actually met jesus he claims after jesus
[12:16]was crucified he claims on his road to damascus he met jesus
[12:21]once he said i have i had a vision of jesus and
[12:23]that's when he converted to christianity so paul was actually never one
[12:29]of the students of prophet isa alayhi in fact you know why
[12:32]he came to palestine he came to kill jesus when he heard
[12:35]about jesus he was never one of his followers and his name
[12:40]was saul from tarsus he changed his name into paul and then
[12:44]he started to spread christianity so paul is not one of the
[12:52]disciples of jesus allah why do i trust him blindly what gives
[12:56]me that what paul is saying is true normally there are two
[13:00]ways to know if a person is truthful a hundred percent in
[13:02]everything they narrate number one a prophet tells you that they're truthful
[13:09]for instance had jesus said hey people when paul comes everything he
[13:14]tells you accept it okay i would accept that if jesus said
[13:16]that i would accept that but jesus never said that if a
[13:21]prophet says it we accept it our prophet said that about imam
[13:27]ali anything you hear from imam ali is truth the prophet said
[13:32]that i accept it but jesus never said whatever paul says you
[13:34]have to accept it so that's not a way that i can
[13:39]confirm it the second way is to produce a miracle to show
[13:44]emerge is a miracle prophets tell you we're inspired by god right
[13:48]we get our knowledge from god christians say paul was inspired by
[13:53]god to write the bible show me evidence where is his miracle
[13:57]jesus showed his evidence he revived the dead he cured the leper
[14:00]he walked on water what's the miracle of saint paul show it
[14:06]to me why do i have to blindly accept what paul says
[14:09]academically there is a dilemma there is a challenge here you have
[14:15]a person writing many chapters of the bible he never lived with
[14:20]jesus he never actually saw jesus he's not one of his students
[14:22]what are his sources who's inheriting from how do i trust everything
[14:26]he's telling me is accurate you tell me he's inspired by god
[14:31]prove it to me where's the miracle show me that paul was
[14:34]connected to god there's no such evidence in fact in fact you
[14:39]know the true disciples of jesus like peter and others they had
[14:42]a problem with paul they would get into arguments they were not
[14:46]on good terms with each other so the very inner circle of
[14:52]prophet isa alaihissalam those disciples they had a problem with paul why
[14:57]am i taking my dean from a man who came after jesus
[15:02]he was never one of his students and the students of jesus
[15:06]had a problem with him why would i take my religion from
[15:08]that how do you defend that academically how is that justified so
[15:15]this is our main critique about the epistles of paul there is
[15:20]no evidence that he is inspired by god it's just a claim
[15:24]anyone can claim that anyone can come and tell you today if
[15:27]someone comes and tells you hey people i'm inspired by god here's
[15:30]a book read it what would you tell this person what's your
[15:34]proof do you have a miracle that shows me you're from god
[15:37]show me what is your miracle what is the miracle of paul
[15:41]there's absolutely nothing to prove that he indeed was inspired by god
[15:47]so how is it that you accept god is speaking through paul
[15:51]who told you that jesus never said it and paul never had
[15:56]a miracle to prove that what's your evidence in fact many times
[16:00]paul gives his own opinion is that also the word of god
[16:05]i'll share with you an example you'll find in the bible in
[16:09]1 timothy chapter 2 mark these words these are the very words
[16:15]of the bible in 1 timothy chapter 2 verses 11 to 14
[16:21]you know what paul says he says a woman should learn in
[16:26]quietness and full submission i do not permit a woman to teach
[16:34]or to assume authority over a man who's saying this not jesus
[16:38]paul paul is saying i it's my opinion i do not permit
[16:44]a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man she
[16:46]must be quiet this is the new testament timothy paul what's your
[16:50]philosophy why does a woman have to be quiet why does she
[16:56]have to be so submissive he gives you his philosophy he says
[17:02]for adam was formed first then eve that's the first philosophy the
[17:07]second reason and adam was not the one deceived it was the
[17:10]woman who was deceived and became a sinner so he says in
[17:14]my opinion you woman you need to be quiet because god created
[17:16]adam first and then he created eve and it wasn't adam who
[17:22]was deceived she's the culprit she's the problem she's the one who
[17:25]was deceived and caused this original sin this is what paul says
[17:29]is he also speaking on behalf of god when he says that
[17:33]i asked my christian friends 2 billion christians do you really believe
[17:37]this is the word of god good luck if you have if
[17:42]you believe this is the word of god then i don't know
[17:43]what to say about that what kind of logic is this is
[17:48]this really giving respect to women and they attack the religion of
[17:54]islam subhanallah they tell you islam brings down the status of a
[17:57]woman look at words like that in the bible and then compare
[18:01]that to the quran subhanallah when quran speaks about adam and eve
[18:05]and the whole issue of approaching the tree the quran holds them
[18:09]both responsible the quran doesn't say oh you woman you're the problem
[18:14]the quran talks to both of them the quran holds them both
[18:19]accountable the quran rebukes them both for not taking the advice of
[18:24]allah subhanahu wa ta'ala but the bible puts the blame on whom
[18:26]on eve not on you know adam eve is the problem she
[18:32]is the one who caused this sin so i cannot academically accept
[18:38]that this man is inspired by god in fact paul you know
[18:41]he changed so many aspects of of the true faith of prophet
[18:44]jesus paul was a gentile he wanted the romans to accept christianity
[18:52]to accept prophet jesus so you know what he did he romanized
[18:57]christianity because the romans they hated the jews anything that looked too
[19:02]jewish they would not accept it so what paul did he's like
[19:04]let me change this anything that these romans don't like i'm going
[19:06]to take it out that's why he was able to spread christianity
[19:11]in rome and in the middle east at the time he made
[19:15]it so easy he deleted so many laws from from the original
[19:20]path of prophet isa alaihissalam for instance the romans had a problem
[19:24]with circumcision no this is a jewish thing we'll never do that
[19:26]he said okay let me take this out of christianity paul is
[19:30]the one who changed the religion of jesus when it came to
[19:35]people following him that's why our hadith are very critical of paul
[19:38]our hadith put the blame on bolas paul for changing the history
[19:46]of christians that's what we find in our hadith so that's the
[19:51]first part of the bible written by paul and honestly there is
[19:55]no evidence that what he says is the word of god it's
[19:57]true he comes 15 20 years after jesus writing this what's his
[20:00]source we don't know let's go to the next stage the next
[20:05]stage is what we call the canonical texts they also call them
[20:12]the synoptic gospels these gospels the four they serve as pretty much
[20:18]the foundation for christian thought and belief and they talk about the
[20:22]life of jesus they are supposed to be eyewitness accounts of what
[20:25]jesus said of where he went what did he do they are
[20:30]written by mark matthew luke and john what is the concern that
[20:37]we have here you find that these canonical texts they even came
[20:43]after paul the first of them was mark in the 70s that's
[20:47]when his gospel was written then after him come who matthew and
[20:54]luke in the 80s and then finally john in the 90s or
[20:57]the earth the early 2nd century so you find that a lot
[21:02]of the bible today was written how many years after jesus we're
[21:05]looking at 40 to 60 years after prophet isa alaihissalam what is
[21:10]the source what is the source you have a gap of 50
[21:13]years half a century that's a long time how do i know
[21:18]what's contained in the bible is actually what jesus said what is
[21:22]the evidence for that and you know my dear brothers and sisters
[21:26]today biblical scholars they admit that they don't really know who wrote
[21:31]these four gospels they're attributed to the disciples of jesus but they
[21:37]didn't write the bible mark matthew luke and john they were not
[21:44]the disciples of jesus who wrote those chapters these chapters or gospels
[21:47]were named after them but even biblical scholars they admit we don't
[21:51]know who wrote them because when for instance john was written some
[21:56]50 years after jesus john the disciple was not even alive so
[22:01]who wrote that and therefore therefore you have an academic dilemma over
[22:20]here when it comes to verifying the authenticity of the bible you
[22:26]have these four authors we don't know who they are and in
[22:30]fact you find many times that they're not just telling you what
[22:36]jesus said or done like in john john gives you a very
[22:39]well developed theology you know this whole idea that jesus is god
[22:42]or the son of god it comes from john in the other
[22:47]canonical text there really isn't a reference to that in the other
[22:52]canonical biblical texts more than 80 times jesus is referred to as
[22:59]the son of man ben adam in their language he is the
[23:03]son of man in the canonical texts but now suddenly comes john
[23:09]some 50 years after jesus alaih-salaam and he's claiming that no jesus
[23:13]is god or the son of god the literal son of god
[23:17]and makes jesus divine this is not found really in earlier texts
[23:23]the way john tells you that it happened and so this makes
[23:27]us my dear brothers and sisters doubt doubt the authenticity of what
[23:32]you find in the bible when you don't know who the authors
[23:34]are you don't know what the link is to jesus how can
[23:39]you accept it as the authentic source for your religion you have
[23:43]to have your kin you have to have certainty yes we admit
[23:48]that the bible today you can trace it back to these authors
[23:52]because when you have this discussion with christians they tell you look
[23:56]no book in history has been studied like the bible no book
[23:59]has been researched we can prove every page of the bible goes
[24:06]back to that era i agree with you no problem i agree
[24:08]that research shows you can trace the current bible to john who
[24:14]wrote the bible in the 90s i agree no problem but what
[24:20]is the source of john to jesus 50 years later that's the
[24:23]missing link that christians don't talk about they say oh god inspired
[24:28]it well that's just a claim i need evidence that god inspired
[24:30]it show me the miracle show me that jesus said that these
[24:35]people are going to write the bible and accept them so when
[24:38]i don't know who the author is that raises an academic concern
[24:42]over here and so we muslims we need to know that my
[24:47]dear brothers and sisters and so appreciate the quran you can actually
[24:52]trace the quran back to the holy prophet now this doesn't mean
[24:56]that we entirely reject the bible those who wrote the bible they
[24:59]fabricated some things but not everything a lot of it is the
[25:04]teachings of prophet is we do recognize that there are beautiful moral
[25:09]ethical teachings in the new testament we don't dispute that but it's
[25:14]the new testament a fully authentic book that will take me to
[25:20]god no it's not there is no evidence that this is actually
[25:23]reflecting all of what jesus said but the quran is the actual
[25:30]word of god and my last word for our christian friends they
[25:33]should be grateful to the quran because if it weren't for the
[25:41]quran many aspects of the lies of prophet isa there would not
[25:43]be any proof for it that solid 100 the virgin birth right
[25:48]how do we prove the virgin birth we don't have anything historical
[25:55]that proves the virgin birth 100 as we said the bible came
[25:59]after jesus and we don't even know who the authors are we
[26:00]don't know what their what the authenticity is but the quran confirms
[26:03]it and we know the quran is from god because we've examined
[26:07]before why the quran is truly from allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and
[26:11]we can trace the quran to the prophet and he attributes it
[26:17]to allah so i know jesus through the quran i know the
[26:19]virgin birth happened through the quran i know he would raise the
[26:23]dead from the quran he used to cure the blind and the
[26:26]leper from the quran the quran documented this for history without the
[26:32]quran believe me someone could doubt who says this is all true
[26:35]because the bible says it okay but the bible came after jesus
[26:40]what's that gap we don't know what that gap is we don't
[26:43]know the authenticity of it so in fact christians should be grateful
[26:49]to the holy quran for giving us the legacy of prophet isa
[26:53]alaihissalam with so much clarity with so much truth that is something
[26:58]to appreciate and i invite everyone out there to study the quran
[27:02]many many christians don't know what's in the quran i myself when
[27:06]i go to churches and i speak to them about what the
[27:12]quran says about prophet isa alaihissalam they're shocked they're shocked one day
[27:16]i spoke to a group of christians about the legacy of jesus
[27:21]in the quran after i left after the program finished i was
[27:26]leaving they told me we've learned about jesus in this session more
[27:30]than we've learned about him in our entire history of the church
[27:32]is new information that we had never access to there were dimensions
[27:36]that were not clear to us the quran clarifies them so christians
[27:42]should actually celebrate the quran for keeping the legacy of prophet isa
[27:48]alaihissalam to open our hearts and minds to his light to his
[27:55]wisdom to his rahma to his makhara to his knowledge on these
[27:58]blessed nights raise your hands in dua this is the moment of
[28:03]dua at the time of maghrib in the month of ramadan it's
[28:06]a very blessed time to ask allah subhanahu ta allah for your
[28:09]hajjat and for your needs we ask allah to hasten the reappearance
[28:15]of our master al-imam forgive us our sins we ask allah subhanahu
[28:22]ta'ala to cure those who are ill many people are ill they've
