[0:00]foreign [Music] um [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] i [Music] [Music] [Laughter] for
[2:12]the hastening of the reappearance of the master the savior the avenger
[2:20]recite we said that the ultimate objective the goal the aim in
[2:40]all of these gatherings all of these lamentations all of these rituals
[2:45]is to anchor our boat to the ark of salvation um it
[3:04]is to be with him not just to remember him not just
[3:09]to cry for him all of those things are important but they're
[3:13]a means to an end the end is to be with him
[3:20]it is to truly internalize the feeling of being in the presence
[3:27]of imam hussain being in the presence of his companions to actually
[3:32]feel the pain this burning sensation inside all of us that we
[3:37]wish we could be there on the day of to mean it
[3:41]when we say as imam my apologies they're asking if everyone could
[3:55]get up and take a few steps forward inshaallah to accommodate those
[3:58]that are joining us just try and make space as much as
[4:12]you can [Music] thank you may allah bless you hussain rewarding may
[4:30]we all get to visit his majestic shrine and pay him the
[4:36]respect that he deserves so that's the goal that's the ultimate objective
[4:44]to not be like the khufans to not abandon our imam the
[4:50]way the khufans abandoned theirs as they were so perfectly described their
[5:02]hearts are with you they love you they actually admire you they
[5:08]actually feel like they can call themselves followers of the adult partisans
[5:14]of ali but because it becomes uncomfortable to do that sometimes it's
[5:21]difficult being with the albeit means that you're going to have to
[5:27]face some tests and trials one because the good is being sifted
[5:30]from the bad and two because that's what the imams themselves faced
[5:37]it was their lifestyles that meant they would have to face unspeakable
[5:43]tragedies none of us will ever have to face what they faced
[5:51]no one nothing nowhere could ever be compared to imam hussain or
[5:57]the tragedies of the other baits none of them of course imam
[6:02]hussain's tragedy stood out even in comparison to the tragedies of the
[6:05]bait which is why they focused on it which is why they
[6:11]emphasized the honoring and the remembrance of the tragedy of imam hussain
[6:16]above all of the other tragedies all of the other trials that
[6:20]they themselves faced which is why they emphasize the visitation to israel
[6:26]and so while no one can be compared with that no one
[6:30]can compare their pains and their challenges to those that were faced
[6:36]by the holy prophet and his household but because you've chosen this
[6:41]path you've chosen a road that's going to be uneven and rugged
[6:49]it's going to be tough it's going to be difficult that's how
[6:56]it works somebody came this hadith is actually mentioned in multiple occasions
[7:01]and attributed to multiple imams which suggests that it happened over and
[7:06]over again they would come to the imam and say we love
[7:10]you we love ali we love the alu bates and the imams
[7:15]obviously they're not there to collect fanboys they're not there trying to
[7:24]increase the people who admire them they want people who are committed
[7:28]to the cause they want people who are willing to devote themselves
[7:33]their lives their resources their time to their cause the imams would
[7:41]very clearly and without any form of ambiguity tell them that now
[7:49]that you have chosen this path get ready for poverty get ready
[7:57]for pain get ready for isolation get ready for mockery get ready
[8:01]for all of these things then the imam would say for tragedy
[8:07]pain challenges is quicker and it reaches our followers faster than water
[8:17]coming from the summit of a mountain down to the valley in
[8:23]other words it's going to target you before it targets anybody else
[8:28]imam assad our sixth imam says to one of his companions he
[8:36]said to him satan has one mission in this life he's not
[8:45]bothered with other people he couldn't care less about other people he
[8:49]could care less if they prayed all night long and fasted every
[8:54]single day he could care less if they went to hajj a
[8:57]thousand times it doesn't matter he's a hundred percent focused on you
[9:05]and your friends the followers of the aruba you are the final
[9:15]frontier you are the last bastions of defending the values of god
[9:18]divine morals teachings of the prophets that's why he will focus on
[9:24]you more than anybody else and so to be with the imams
[9:31]is going to be tough it'll be difficult let's not be like
[9:36]a kufus let's actually mean it when we say it when the
[9:49]caravan reached kufa they say that the as the imam zayn al-abidin
[9:55]spoke as lady zainab spoke as people began to realize that this
[10:02]caravan was that of the children of the prophet who had been
[10:09]taken captive who had been killed and massacred they started to weep
[10:16]and sob imam al-abadin looked at the crowds and he says to
[10:21]them are you crying for us are you sobbing for us who
[10:31]other than you was it that killed us crying for imam al-hussein
[10:38]is no litmus test for righteousness um also cried on imam hussain
[10:45]on the day of ashura just because we cry doesn't mean that
[10:49]we're with them the imam said you you kill us and then
[10:53]you cry for us ladies and also got up and she said
[11:01]to them you cry today do you know what you have done
[11:14]do you know what liver of the prophet you have decimated do
[11:20]you understand what sanctity of the messenger you have violated do you
[11:29]grasp what blood of rasulullah you have shed they cried but that's
[11:34]not good enough let's not be like them they abandoned their imam
[11:37]at his hour of need let's not be the ones who abandoned
[11:43]our imam the one who's in occultation the one who is ultimately
[11:49]his mandate his mandate is connected to a lot of things one
[12:00]of which is how we act it is what we do it
[12:02]is whether or not he sees in us the capacity to be
[12:08]at least have some semblance of the companions of imam and hussain
[12:13]to at least connect to imam al-hussein to be with imam hussain
[12:18]is to be with the 12th imam it is to be with
[12:21]our master and our savior connect with him talk to him write
[12:25]to him i was saying this the other night i said when
[12:28]it comes to the 12th imam it's also mechanical isn't it it's
[12:34]like an abstract notion some belief that we have in our minds
[12:38]but that never translates into physical reality you know what it's like
[12:44]i've mentioned this example before it's almost like if somebody tells you
[12:48]do you believe in mars and jupiter and neptune and of course
[12:52]the answer is yeah i believe in mars and jupiter and neptune
[12:55]but what bearing does that belief have in your life nothing does
[13:02]it affect how you lead your life does it affect which career
[13:06]path you choose does it affect who you get married to does
[13:09]it affect any of the lifestyle choices that we make even though
[13:14]we have no doubt jupiter is out there mars is out there
[13:17]all of these planetary this entire planetary system is real nobody denies
[13:22]it but does it affect how you make choices in this life
[13:29]no our belief in the 12th imam has devolved into something similar
[13:34]to that we believe he's out there we believe he's alive that
[13:39]he is in the flesh he walks on this earth but that's
[13:44]about it how do you develop that relationship how do you strengthen
[13:50]it there are many many ways scholars have talked about this books
[13:53]have been written about this and you can just begin by build
[13:58]by creating a personal relationship with him talk to him every night
[14:03]speak to him pray for him recite open there are multiple visitations
[14:08]addressing our twelfth imam read those recite every friday morning the connection
[14:21]between imam zaman and imam hussain is astounding his slogan when he
[14:30]rearrives is to seek justice for his grandfather the first thing he
[14:41]does after he announces his mission in mecca may we live long
[14:45]enough and be righteous enough to be able to witness these phenomenal
[14:51]cosmic events first thing he does after he announces his mandate his
[14:58]top generals and lieutenants arrive from every corner of the planet through
[15:04]miraculous means says they'll start walking at night by morning they're there
[15:12]in mecca surrounding their master their imam then he travels to iraq
[15:18]he travels to jerusalem he leads that prayer jesus prays behind him
[15:23]then he goes to iraq first thing he does is he goes
[15:25]to the shrine of abba abdullah hussain he reaches in then he
[15:31]brings out a slaughtered infant and he says what crime did the
[15:36]children commit the connection between imam is zaman and his cosmic mandate
[15:41]of filling the earth with justice and equity cleansing it up rooting
[15:45]every trace of injustice from this universe to imam al-hussein is absolutely
[15:57]astounding talk to him build that relationship just like you know how
[16:02]you go to a school and it's your first day everybody's been
[16:07]through that you don't really know anybody what do you do you
[16:10]look for someone you can befriend so you just walk up to
[16:15]that person you start talking to them you have a conversation with
[16:18]them then you try to build that relationship little by little day
[16:24]day after day do that with your imam somebody who needs something
[16:36]imagine a child a teenager who do you go to who do
[16:41]you turn to other than your loving father other than your parents
[16:45]that is the imam turn to him a lot of people tell
[16:51]me we have these insurmountable problems you know sometimes it's like you
[16:56]have an exam a test you need to pass sometimes it's things
[16:59]that are really really difficult to deal with a delinquent child or
[17:06]an abusive relationship or things that you can't just solve easily and
[17:10]i tell them write to your imam take a pen and paper
[17:16]write that eva and send it to him they were telling me
[17:20]that on the 15th of shabban many people do this alhamdulillah but
[17:23]that's not enough you don't just talk to your father once a
[17:26]year do you let's not be like the kuffins the kulfins were
[17:36]the product of a culture let me give you an example after
[17:43]the death of the martyrdom of amir and people came to imam
[17:50]al-hasan and they pledged their allegiance to him and they flocked him
[17:55]they all went thousands upon thousands entire tribes they went to imam
[18:02]hassan and they gave their oath of allegiance to the imam and
[18:06]the oath of allegiance was basically to lay your life in front
[18:12]of him it is to say that whatever you tell me i
[18:13]will do that's what bay'a means that's why we must give bay
[18:19]to imam imam and hussain that come what may i will do
[18:25]whatever it takes just to be with you to stay with you
[18:28]so they did that with imam hassan imam al-hasan the first thing
[18:37]he did was send an army to that vile delinquent savage oh
[18:51]it's amazing what you can do when you dangle some money in
[18:57]front of people the hadith says that when gold and silver coins
[19:02]were first minted shaytan came and took them both and placed them
[19:06]on his eyes and he said boy will i be able to
[19:10]deceive the vast majority of humans thanks to you paid bribes to
[19:19]the commanders and the top generals in the army that imam al-hasan
[19:25]had said imagine that one of them was imam hasan's own cousin
[19:35]whose children had been killed by mohammed but again money wealth power
[19:44]all these things they can truly change people so hassan sent another
[19:51]army again bribed them had them switch over to his side he
[19:56]sent a third one he bribed them had them switch over to
[20:02]his side in doing this suddenly imam hasan's army went from having
[20:06]a hundred thousand hundred and twenty thousand soldiers down to about twenty
[20:12]thousand that's it you've decimated the army imam al-hasan went ahead and
[20:18]this time he led the army to fight with muawiyah except given
[20:25]the size of the forces that were with him and the betrayals
[20:31]that happened as well there were more and more imam and hassan
[20:36]had no choice he couldn't fight so what he did was sign
[20:40]that truce a lot of people mistake that truce for a peace
[20:47]treaty but it wasn't a peace treaty it was the best can
[20:52]be it can be best categorized characterized as a temporary halt to
[21:01]the fighting that's all it was it was a truce not a
[21:05]peace treaty in fact you can deduce that by simply reading the
[21:09]terms of the treaty in other words imam al-hasan never acknowledged muawiyah
[21:13]as the legitimate ruler never there were terms in it that later
[21:19]on became very clear they were placed in there just to expose
[21:24]this savage including the fact that he had no right to appoint
[21:28]his son or anybody else after him which is exactly what he
[21:33]went ahead and did anyway the truth the people that had remained
[21:40]with him imagine most of them had already gone and switched sides
[21:44]to muawiyah those that remained with him attacked him they pulled the
[21:49]prayer rug from beneath him they even stabbed him with a dagger
[21:52]in the thigh they wounded imam al-hassan you have humiliated us they
[22:06]told him one of the problems that the khufans had and we
[22:11]talked about this in the previous nights was that they kept oscillating
[22:17]between the camp of truth and the camp of falsehood they weren't
[22:25]stable their beliefs weren't stable enough to decide which side they needed
[22:30]to be on is it the side of imam al-hasan is it
[22:35]the side of one is it the side of ali is it
[22:39]the side of the camel is it this or is it that
[22:43]sometimes this is based on the fact that they are unstable they
[22:49]don't know enough they're ignorant they don't understand that these two were
[22:57]mutually exclusive that it has to be one or the other you
[22:58]can't combine these two sometimes there are nefarious intentions behind this remember
[23:05]i talked to you about the batria or that was a group
[23:11]of people a sect if you like that emerged during the time
[23:15]of imam al-baqarah these people their intention was look we need to
[23:21]create a unified front we need to have as many people as
[23:24]possible to create that unified front then we must respect everyone regardless
[23:31]we must love them all equally we have to love the first
[23:36]the second the third the fourth the fifth and if it goes
[23:40]on to a thousand we all love them all equally not recognizing
[23:43]the mutual exclusivity of this dynamic of this formula the idea is
[23:50]what again the idea is that we need to have as many
[23:55]people as we can get why because doing so will allow us
[24:01]to honor islam restore the honor of islam which is subhan allah
[24:05]the very point that imam puts his hand on there is a
[24:12]hadith in which the imam says if this group the ones that
[24:17]try to reconcile between everyone no matter how contradictory no matter how
[24:22]inconsistent no matter how mutually exclusive they are the imam says that
[24:27]if this group had a an army that stretched from the east
[24:32]to the west and covered the entire face of the planet god
[24:39]will never have the honor of his religion restored by them in
[24:45]other words you're trying to restore the honor of islam the strength
[24:50]of islam that's not how you do it because you're stepping over
[24:55]some of the most fundamental beliefs again it's one thing to live
[25:02]in harmony with everybody which we must do it is one thing
[25:07]to be kind and courteous with people no matter what their backgrounds
[25:13]it is one thing to never harm anyone to never lay a
[25:20]hand on anyone to never steal from anyone to never cheat anyone
[25:23]to never break a promise to anyone no matter who no matter
[25:28]what imam saying abedin himself famously said and you've all heard this
[25:33]before the imam said that if the one who killed my father
[25:39]imam al-hussein entrusted me with the sword that he killed my father
[25:43]with i wouldn't breach that trust if he wanted it back i
[25:48]would give him the sword back that's one thing that is a
[25:53]bedrock of our moral system live let live treat everyone with courtesy
[26:00]and respect within the limits of our faith but it's another thing
[26:08]to say that oh no we should actually love everyone no matter
[26:12]how contradictory we should respect everyone no matter how inconsistent that just
[26:18]that's unsustainable that doesn't work it simply doesn't work that was one
[26:26]of the problems that the kufrins had that's why i said go
[26:31]back to the basics that's why it's important that we recognize what
[26:36]our fundamental beliefs are hold on to them teach them preach them
[26:42]start with the youth start with the children as the commander of
[26:48]the faithful famously says he says it's a letter he has written
[26:55]to his son imam hassan beautiful letter a blueprint of how a
[26:58]father and a mother should treat and give discipline for their children
[27:03]if you haven't read it make sure you refer to it go
[27:06]back and read it i want you to research these things i
[27:09]want you to look them up the amount says he says the
[27:19]heart of a young person of a child is like an empty
[27:25]land whatever you plant into it will grow if you plant food
[27:34]if you plant tomatoes and potatoes and you plant things that are
[27:38]useful it'll grow there if you plant weeds it'll also grow there
[27:43]if you plant poisonous plants they will also grow there so the
[27:48]imam says that's why it's important that i be the first one
[27:51]to plant the right seeds plant the right set of beliefs the
[27:58]right set of values don't let others beat you to it which
[28:02]is why it begins with the family it begins with the parents
[28:05]then it's the madressa and the school and whatnot but we've become
[28:10]too complacent brothers and sisters haven't we think about this for a
[28:14]moment we outsource the education of our children to the local midwest
[28:18]we outsource it to the local school to the local community it's
[28:25]not the community's job to raise my children or your children it
[28:29]is mine it is yours let's prioritize that let's prioritize it over
[28:34]getting a a job where both parents are working and the children
[28:39]are left to their own whims and they're too busy playing video
[28:43]games wallahi brothers and sisters there are things i can't open up
[28:46]too much i can't my hands are tied but suffice to say
[28:52]that they're planting these demonic beliefs and values in video games where
[28:59]you least expect it it's not just in some curriculum at school
[29:04]it's in cartoons you have to beat them to the education of
[29:13]your children provide them with the basics that they need so here
[29:21]we have a problem that the kuffin suffered from and the key
[29:27]is that we ensure that the right beliefs are taught within the
[29:35]confines of the family and then the next step is within the
[29:38]community and then on a regional or even global scale in the
[29:45]media and what not which is why you look at the way
[29:56]the bait the role that they play and the role that they
[30:02]play is so fundamental again people will tell you the quran has
[30:09]to be at the center no one denies the value of the
[30:15]quran no one denies how important it is to recite it to
[30:18]study it to learn it to absorb it no one denies that
[30:23]the issue is when they present the quran to the exclusion of
[30:29]the adults because the quran my name is means isis the quran
[30:35]is means the taliban in afghanistan the poor helped with afghanistan are
[30:51]now living in terror and fear not knowing whether their city their
[30:58]region will be the next one run over by the taliban the
[31:03]quran is an unsustainable unstable system you need the athlete look at
[31:10]this verse in surah just try and think about it and not
[31:18]just listen to it tells us what does that mean it is
[31:34]a blessed book of recitation in a hidden book what's hidden about
[31:44]the quran it's right there you can pick it up and read
[31:49]it allah is telling us no one can access it this hidden
[32:01]book no one can reach it except those that have been purified
[32:04]who are the ones that have been purified in allah [Music] foreign
[32:32][Music] the one who purifies themselves which is why lawyer isn't talking
[32:41]about the physical touching of the quran it says the ones that
[32:48]have been purified which is none other than ali and al ali
[32:51]the family of rasulullah isn't it that's what it means which is
[32:58]why imam sadaq says this hadith is beautiful here's a practical tip
[33:02]you can take home with you in sha allah imam sadiq says
[33:06]in the book he says that whoever recites every thursday night will
[33:14]never see misery in this life and he will be among the
[33:21]companions of amir al-mu'min on the day of judgment then the imam
[33:24]says that is the surah of it because this is a clear
[33:32]reference to the athlete it's a clear reference that for this book
[33:35]to be utilized and for it not to be weaponized you need
[33:39]to go back to those that have been purified those that teach
[33:42]us the meaning of those allegorical verses don't be fooled my dear
[33:49]brothers and sisters by the um [Music] came and said they must
[34:03]both be they must both resign we don't want either of them
[34:11]let's make the quran the armpit arbiter between us that's what these
[34:16]present day tell us as well right the quran it's all the
[34:21]quran nothing else but the quran we came and said the quran
[34:26]should be the arbiter knowing full well that the imam is said
[34:36][Music] that i am walking talking speaking quran i am the manifestation
[34:45]of the holy quran i am the one that applies this quran
[34:52]and tells you what it actually means didn't the holy prophet say
[34:59]didn't the prophet say innit and that they will never separate from
[35:06]one another what are you talking about the quran should be the
[35:14]arbiter ali is there right there in front of you don't fall
[35:18]for these imposters don't fall for these liars as they said they
[35:21]will come to you with the garb of religion they are wolves
[35:26]and sheep's skin they will come to you with verses of the
[35:28]holy quran in fact we have a hadith that says the 12th
[35:36]imam when he reappears listen carefully to this again i don't want
[35:41]you to misinterpret or misconstrue my statements as someone who is saying
[35:46]that the quran should be sidelined i'm just saying that the quran
[35:52]requires the teachings of the bait for it to be useful otherwise
[35:55]it would be dangerous it can be weaponized the hadith says that
[35:59]when the 12th imam comes he will have a harder time dealing
[36:05]with the people of his time than the mushrikeen of quraysh when
[36:08]the holy prophet was sent to them you'd think that with over
[36:13]a thousand years of progress and development and technological advancement and all
[36:19]that garbage you'd think that people would have evolved you'd think that
[36:22]people would be more receptive but the imam explains he says because
[36:27]when the mushrik came they had nothing to counter what the prophet
[36:33]was telling them but when these people are faced by the 12th
[36:36]imam they will cite quranic verses to counter him they will tell
[36:42]them all but the quran says such and such as if the
[36:46]imam doesn't know as if the imam is not the literal embodiment
[36:49]of the holy quran and his teachings so don't fall for these
[36:55]people at the end of the day my dear brothers and sisters
[36:58]it is the companionship with imam al-hussein and the 12th imam that
[37:07]will connect us to the other fundamental parts of our faith it
[37:13]will connect us to tawheed it will connect us to nobu it
[37:15]will connect us it'll connect us to the attributes of allah let
[37:23]me give you a couple of examples this is important listen carefully
[37:28]imagine two buildings one that has a beautiful progressive contemporary bold design
[37:39]it has a breathtaking facade it has incredible doors and windows chandeliers
[37:48]decor the works [Music] but it lacks a solid foundation it's not
[37:57]structurally sound as they say if you ask your architect friend and
[38:03]say should i buy this building he'll say run get as far
[38:10]away from it as you possibly can why because i don't care
[38:13]how beautiful it looks i don't care how much money went into
[38:15]the beautification of the facade of the building it's not structurally sound
[38:20]it's a hazard for you to simply step into it get as
[38:25]far away from it as you can then we come to the
[38:29]other building the other building is not as beautiful not much work
[38:33]has gone into the facade or the decor right it doesn't have
[38:38]it doesn't even have any windows or doors right it looks hideous
[38:43]it looks ugly but it has a solid structure it has a
[38:46]good foundation what does your architect tell you or your engineer they'll
[38:55]say this is a much better option for you it's a fixer-upper
[38:59]as they say get this one then build it fix it make
[39:03]it look nice make it comfortable is there any comparison between these
[39:08]two think about it for a moment if you had a choice
[39:12]would you even hesitate you'd go for the second one not the
[39:15]first one obviously let me give you another example imagine two vehicles
[39:22]one is an old clunker of a car the other is the
[39:29]latest hyper car beautiful advanced sophisticated the first one is like your
[39:35]old dad's car the windows don't roll down the ac doesn't work
[39:42]it makes this weird noise every time you drive it's just a
[39:45]terrible car right but the difference between the first one and the
[39:53]second one is that the old clunker happens to be on the
[39:55]right road which can get you to your final destination whereas the
[40:01]hyper car is on this highway that ends in a road that's
[40:09]not yet complete right first one's on the right road which means
[40:14]that if you get into that one the ride will be uncomfortable
[40:19]it'll take much longer but eventually you'll get there whereas with the
[40:26]hypercar it doesn't matter how fast you go it doesn't matter how
[40:28]nice the ride is it doesn't matter how exhilarating it may be
[40:33]in fact the faster you go the more deadly the crash will
[40:38]be when you start falling off the top of the mountain right
[40:41]the first one is not a good car but it's on the
[40:46]right track the second one is on the wrong track when you
[40:51]hear a hadith listen carefully that says and a lot of people
[40:55]struggle with this a lot of people are like does that even
[40:57]make any sense hear me out when the holy prophet says the
[41:07]love of ali is a good deed it's a virtue that can
[41:11]never be tainted by a sin or a vice and the hatred
[41:17]of ali is a sin it's a vice that can never be
[41:25]fixed with any good deeds this is what we mean [Music] [Applause]
[41:46]what we mean is that if the foundation is solid that is
[41:53]your top priority make sure the building is structurally sound make sure
[41:57]the road actually leads to your intended destination it we're not saying
[42:03]that the branches don't matter right we're not saying that these are
[42:10]the fundamentals connecting to imam and hussain connecting to ahmed connecting the
[42:15]to the 12th imam is all you need if you move into
[42:21]a dilapidated building and you don't bother to put doors and windows
[42:25]and shades and lights and whatnot if you don't care enough to
[42:30]fix this building then it'll be a very uncomfortable house indeed right
[42:36]but what we are saying is start with the solid foundation then
[42:41]build on top of that what we are saying is of course
[42:46]you need all the branches of religion you need salat you need
[42:49]you need you need all of these good things but you have
[42:54]to get the foundation before you do any of those that's what
[43:00]we're talking about don't let anyone fool you into saying that if
[43:04]you as long as you love the other bait then you don't
[43:07]have to do anything else you'll be looked after you'll be taken
[43:09]care of this is the statement of this is what the exaggerators
[43:16]that were cursed by the imams would say we're not saying that
[43:20]imam assad says at his deathbed the imam declared to his children
[43:24]he said our intercession will not be offered to the one who
[43:34]takes his prayer lightly let alone not pray prayer is important brothers
[43:40]and sisters make sure you pray make sure you never miss it
[43:43]make sure you do it in the right way learn the basics
[43:47]learn the rules the regulations and all that what we're saying is
[43:52]start with that solid foundation build on it put the windows put
[43:56]the doors put the chandeliers build the pool do whatever it is
[44:00]you want to do start there and you'll end up with the
[44:03]most exquisite building but without the foundation it's all a waste it's
[44:09]all a waste again it could be the most beautiful place you
[44:14]tell the builder you don't have a solid foundation and he'll tell
[44:19]you oh but look at the curtains they're so nice well that's
[44:23]not good enough in the pyramid of our beliefs in the let's
[44:28]put it this way imagine religion as a pyramid the very base
[44:38]of that pyramid again you need to have a strong basis a
[44:44]strong foundation at the base you have what we call the it's
[44:50]the primordial nature with which allah subhanahu ta'ala created us and brought
[44:56]us into this world that innate familiarity with god that thing that
[45:01]spark that light which allows you to remember god's grace in times
[45:07]of adversity again i can't really go into detail about these things
[45:11]or explain i've done so in my theology course as part of
[45:13]the online housing that we've been running since the start of the
[45:18]pandemic john the martyr academy if you're interested look it up in
[45:21]my theology course as well as the course offered by sayyid hussein
[45:26]on eschatology you'll find all these details so you start out with
[45:31]what with the fit with that primordial nature then on top of
[45:37]that what you have is your beliefs and those beliefs are derived
[45:45]from two sources one your intellect to divine revelation both of these
[45:52]coming together to produce our set of beliefs then on top of
[45:57]that you have and is literally the physical manifestation of your soul
[46:04]sounds oxymoronic but that's what actually is which is why we have
[46:11]traditions about people who on the day of judgment they will look
[46:13]like certain animals and whatnot it's the physical manifestation of your soul
[46:17]that we call morals ethics that comes on top of the beliefs
[46:23]then on top of that you have the deeds you have your
[46:28]actions you have your mind so if somebody has a problem in
[46:31]terms of their deeds let's say they neglect prayer they don't wear
[46:37]hijab they have you know these you think lie cheat and whatnot
[46:40]then you have to look for the flaw in there you have
[46:45]to recognize go back a step and find out if there's something
[46:49]wrong with their their upbringing their ethical and moral values things they've
[46:56]been exposed to in their childhood and if somebody has a flaw
[47:01]or problem in their then you need to go back a step
[47:05]this time to their beliefs find out what they actually believe in
[47:07]find out what motivates them what inspires them what they don't take
[47:15]too seriously and if you have a problem there or god forbid
[47:17]someone not you alhamdulillah but if somebody has a problem in their
[47:21]in their in their beliefs then they need to go back to
[47:25]the first one to the foot to find out whether their essence
[47:29]is a good one or a bad one how do you know
[47:34]if your essence is good or bad a couple of points very
[47:39]quickly number one when you commit a sin the hadith says a
[47:50]believer might commit a sin obviously but when they do they immediately
[47:56]regret doing so they experience remorse so they turn to god and
[48:01]they ask for forgiveness they seek redemption whereas a hypocrite one who
[48:07]has a demonic essence right min sajin as the traditions in the
[48:11]quran tells us if their essence if their primordial nature was bad
[48:17]to begin with they'll be proud of that sin they make no
[48:21]attempt to hide it they make no apologies so far came to
[48:28]imam hussain i described how he did so the first thing he
[48:31]said to the imam yah about is there a way back for
[48:38]me i know what i've done i was the reason that you
[48:43]were trapped here i was the cause of the women and the
[48:46]children being terrified when i came with a thousand men armed to
[48:54]the teeth do i even stand a chance tonight my dear brothers
[49:00]and sisters say this to them for saying say to the imam
[49:03]of your time who gets to read our actions twice a week
[49:10]can i repent would you accept me would you forgive me that's
[49:17]the first point about knowing what your essence is made of and
[49:22]finally your connection to an imam a lot like well i'll mention
[49:30]two hadith very quickly and i'll wrap up the first which highlights
[49:34]the centrality of imam hussain the fact that everything connects back to
[49:40]him is this one on the day of judgment one of our
[49:48]greatest scholars collectors of hadith he narrates this in his book the
[49:55]teacher of sheikh was buried in the holy shrine of imam in
[50:02]baghdad he narrates this hadith where he says imam assad said with
[50:08]his chain of transmission on the day of judgment a call is
[50:15]made before anybody is judged before anybody's held to account before anybody
[50:19]goes through any kind of reckoning a call is made to need
[50:28]where are the visitors of hussain where are the guests of hussein
[50:33]where are the ones who worked hard to be able to go
[50:40]to karbala and visit a group of people stand up the imam
[50:48]says only god knows how many there are then the same caller
[50:53]will address them it'll say to them what motivated you to go
[50:56]to karbala what was it that got you to go there so
[51:00]they will say we went there to offer condolences to rasulullah we
[51:06]went there to offer solace to fatima to emily to imam al-hassan
[51:13]and to mourn the tragedies that befell eva then the same caller
[51:20]will say to them do you see that flag over there and
[51:25]they look and they see the flag a giant flag being held
[51:29]they'll be told that that is the flag of rasulullah the one
[51:35]carrying it is go walk behind that flag and find your place
[51:40]straight into paradise so they follow the flag and go to paradise
[51:44]then they will be raised with the imams themselves with rasulallah with
[51:50]father why because when you connect with husain then you have set
[51:58]the basics you believe in god you believe in rasulullah you believe
[52:05]in everything is now ready for you to build on top of
[52:08]this right go follow this flag may we see that thing may
[52:14]we all meet once again under that majestic flag so the companions
[52:21]of israel were saying they connected to imam and hussain in such
[52:27]a way where it didn't matter to them what happened on the
[52:32]eve of the imam said to them that tomorrow with or without
[52:37]your help i am going to get killed if the imam can
[52:42]be saved then it makes sense to stay but if the imam
[52:46]can't be saved then why would i get killed that's what al-baha
[52:49]mashtapi said but as far as the companions of hussein were concerned
[52:54]it didn't matter to them they were with hussain through thick and
[53:01]thin they were with hussain no matter what or who did what
[53:06]it didn't matter to them which is why we say in theirs
[53:12][Music] [Music] at some point ladies ain't upset too many people are
[53:37]abandoning you too many are leaving us in the darkness of this
[53:40]night have you tested your companions can you rely on them can
[53:47]you depend on them this conversation is overheard perhaps by habitability the
[53:57]one whose shrine is right there like a guardian standing guard protecting
[54:04]the shrine of imam al-hussein in death as he did in life
[54:10]his companions tense he says to them you know what we need
[54:18]to do zainab is afraid let's do something to decrease this fear
[54:25]that is in the heart of the women the daughters of rasulullah
[54:30]and so they come out of their tents like roaring lions they
[54:35]all go and stand before the tent of ladies each one begins
[54:42]to speak and address the mistress the daughter of father addressing abba
[54:50]abdullah was saying may the beasts of the desert eat me alive
[55:04]if i ever abandon you the other one would say i only
[55:10]have one life to offer you i wish i had more lives
[55:14]to offer you ya if they kill me then burn my body
[55:20]and disperse my ashes in the air then i were resurrected and
[55:26]came back into this life i would wish to do nothing but
[55:28]die for you over and over again if they did that to
[55:34]me seventy times i wouldn't abandon you each one of them spoke
[55:40]with words of valor displayed their love their unwavering unconditional loyalty to
[55:48]abba one after the other and so when it was the day
[55:53]of they fulfilled their promises just as they had made them imam
[55:57]al-hussein for example you've all heard the story of saeed of n
[56:04]he is the one who stood guard as imam al-hussein stood to
[56:10]pray in congregation with his remaining companions said there i don't know
[56:18]how long he was able to withstand the torrent of the spears
[56:25]the barrage of the arrows all directed at abba abdullah hussain imam
[56:33]too long as soon as the imam finished his prayer the historians
[56:39]say the hadith says that would block the arrows and the spears
[56:46]with his face and his neck and his chest because that is
[56:51]as close as he could get to those arrows and spears by
[56:56]the time the imam finished his prayer he fell to the ground
[57:01]imam hussain rushed to him he held him in his lap he
[57:08]opened his eyes and saw his master hussain what does he say
[57:11]to the [Music] you will head to paradise even before i do
[57:29]that is one example the other is the slave of abu dharr
[57:36]who later became a slave of imam al-hassan and imam hussain john
[57:42]this great companion who was a ironsmith his job was to fix
[57:46]the swords and so he was always wasn't the cleanest didn't have
[57:50]the cleanest of clothes and so he comes to imam hussain he's
[57:55]an old man at this point he says to the imam give
[58:00]me permission to go and die for you imam said to him
[58:04]why would you wish to do that you can go you're a
[58:07]free man [Music] you have my blessing you have my permission he
[58:37]went into the battlefield he fought and fell to the ground he
[58:43]couldn't see anything his eyes were covered by blood all of a
[58:47]sudden he felt the warm gentle skin [Music] [Music] [Music] what it
[59:32]can be he was the one whose mother told him go fight
[59:36]for the cause of allah she had discovered the beauty of husain
[59:41]he had recognized husain and so she kept telling him to go
[59:47]but his newlywed wife kept saying don't do this don't believe me
[59:51]don't make me a widow but his mother said keep fighting at
[59:58]one point he heard his wife [Music] may my parents be ransomed
[60:13]for you he came back to her [Music] [Music] rasulullah [Music] not
[60:52]having supported him go fight my sweetheart he went and was killed
[61:01]she rushed to him she held him they had just been married
[61:03]it was at that point that um said go and kill the
[61:16][Music] now i want to mention this mostly but because it breaks
[61:25]every heart ibraheem came to her he said to her i wish
[61:32]to take our son he's going to a banquet of allah our
[61:39]son ismail has a mission to fulfill she said what do i
[61:44]do he said put on new clothes for him brush his hair
[61:49]make him look nice and presentable didn't know what ibraheem was talking
[61:52]about but he wanted to take isma'en to slaughter him and offer
[61:58]him as a sacrifice of allah put on new clothes on his
[62:06]mind she combed and brushed his hair she made him look nice
[62:10]he's going to meet allah this might knows with ibrahim ibrahim doesn't
[62:17]slaughter us allah [Music] she said to him my son your father
[62:38]said that you're going to a banquet you're going to be somebody's
[62:42]guest a special person what happened to you ibrahim told her [Music]
[62:58]so much so that she died within three days now zainab is
[63:05]preparing her sons [Music] she knew where they were going raja had
[63:25]no idea [Music] where the reason is never didn't come is because
[63:47]she didn't want about the lost [Music] [Applause] [Music] is [Music] my
