[0:00][Music] yamaha we said that the very last portion of contains what
[1:05]could be described as the crown jewel of this incredible text a
[1:15]text whose chain is a golden one because it starts with imam
[1:23]al-baqarah and ends with god himself and so technically speaking it's a
[1:38]sacred narration passed down from god revealed to his archangel to the
[1:45]holy messenger of god to the commander of the faithful to imam
[1:50]hussain to imam is sadjad and finally [Music] this infinitely precious document
[2:02]has a crown jewel that adorns it even greater than its priceless
[2:14]nature the crown jewel is the prostration at the end of the
[2:22]xeon in that prostration we make a statement of praise in which
[2:26]we thank allah subhanahu wa and we make two prayers the focus
[2:33]of this series is on those two prayers in simple terms we
[2:43]fall down in prostration and say allah i praise you the way
[2:58]those servants who are thankful to you would praise you in other
[3:04]words i could never express praise and thanks to allah as he
[3:11]deserves to be thanked i could never show true gratitude to allah
[3:17]i am incapable of doing that in fact i'm incapable of thanking
[3:21]allah for even a single one of his bounties let alone for
[3:28]this priceless bounty which is what the fact that i am afflicted
[3:35]by the tragedy of hussain i am personally invested in the tragedy
[3:44]of hussein this isn't about some person getting killed in some distant
[3:51]land in the past tense i've said this before and i'm sure
[3:56]you can all relate to this brothers and sisters when muharram begins
[4:03]it feels not as though you're commemorating a historic event rather it
[4:11]feels as though you're counting down to something the whole notion of
[4:20]linear time past present future is completely upended when it comes to
[4:30]ashura it feels as though this event is about to transpire it's
[4:32]going to happen and so you count down to the day of
[4:39]ashura and it's a journey it's a path it's a process you're
[4:45]moving towards it you're not moving away from it due to the
[4:49]passage of time but rather is coming hussein is calling hussain is
[4:56]crying does it feel like you're recounting or recalling some his some
[5:05]story that happened in the past that's why we feel invested we
[5:15]feel immersed in the story and the saga of imam hussain and
[5:19]for that we are thankful to allah because in case you didn't
[5:26]notice the vast majority of the people on this earth don't even
[5:30]know about imam hussain partly our fault but that's the reality and
[5:37]then again you have people who know imam and hussain but whose
[5:41]perception of the imam is so flawed i was watching a video
[5:49]the other day of an individual who i i don't even know
[5:53]if we can call him a salafi or a wahabi because we've
[5:58]seen selfies and we've seen wahhabis and yes many of them are
[6:01]antagonistic towards the shia many of them have these deep seated resentments
[6:06]that are unfathomable for us we can't really explain them but then
[6:12]you have someone who's on a whole other level of hate and
[6:16]vitriol to the point that he's recorded a series of videos i
[6:24]watched two of them one of them was titled this was hussein
[6:29]a martyr so this isn't even about the tragedy of imam was
[6:36]saying the status of imam hussain the proximity of the imam to
[6:42]the holy messenger of god was saying all the all these things
[6:49]are completely disregarded instead he's asking a question which he presents as
[6:55]some kind of a fall intellectual argument in which he basically posits
[7:02]that imam hussain wasn't can't even be considered a martyr he was
[7:06]murdered yes he was killed by a bunch of persians he says
[7:11]it was the persians who came from kufa to kill him on
[7:14]hussain himself he deserved to be killed he says he's pretty influential
[7:24]by the way i'm not just talking about some random fringe personality
[7:32]here he's from iraq his name is of the worst caliber ex
[7:40]bathi present day reformed wahabi person living in saudi arabia he says
[7:47]hussain deserve to be killed as per the quran and i'm sitting
[7:53]there wondering hang on a second i'm really intrigued at this point
[7:57]because if he's going to cite the holy quran surely it's not
[8:01]the quran that we're used to it's not this quran must be
[8:07]something else and so he kept saying according to the law of
[8:10]god hussain had to be killed so instead of then citing an
[8:18]actual verse which doesn't exist he then cites what he says the
[8:26]holy prophet said exalted is rasulullah innocent is the messenger of god
[8:30]from these lies from these accusations he says the holy prophet says
[8:37]that if one person was a khalifa another person then came along
[8:42]and said i am so in other words he challenged the authority
[8:47]of the first khalifa the second person must be killed then he
[8:52]makes his case he says yazid was a legitimate khalifa because all
[8:57]of the companions of the prophet had a consensus that yazid should
[9:04]be the legitimate heir to his father muawiyah hussain then comes along
[9:13]challenges he must be killed then he says i'm not saying that
[9:15]he's going to go to hell this is how low we've stooped
[9:23]this is where we are in the 21st century this is what
[9:26]we're dealing with now evidently we are he said i'm not going
[9:32]to say and this person is speculating on whether or not hussain
[9:49]is he said no we don't say that we don't go that
[9:56]far not in front of the camera anyway but rather we say
[10:00]may allah forgive him so this reminds you the reason i've said
[10:04]this and i know it's heartbreaking i know it hurts for us
[10:08]to hear someone who exposes his illegitimate birth without a dna test
[10:15]like this we don't need a dna test it's as clear as
[10:20]daylight alhamdulillah it hurts us to hear these things but the reason
[10:24]i said it is so that you would appreciate the fact that
[10:28]as imam hussain himself said in dua thank you for bringing me
[10:43]into a world where i have parents i have family i have
[10:47]relatives i have a community i have a group of people who
[10:52]espouse the love of allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and who are submissive
[10:58]to god and who love thee which is why we say at
[11:00]the beginning of the when you're about to step into the sacred
[11:06]sanctuary of hussain in the holy city of karbala may allah grant
[11:10]us all that honor once again you from now until the day
[11:30]of judgment and we don't even sleep or eat or do anything
[11:32]else but worship god in gratitude for this gift we would not
[11:39]do it justice deeply moved and afflicted and injured by the tragedy
[11:54]of hussein but thank [Music] this requires a separate discussion we'll leave
[12:09]that for is to remain still that's what means it's to remain
[12:32]steadfast it's not to shake not to move a believer is like
[12:45]a mountain so firm and so still and so strong the greatest
[12:49]example you can present about something that is steadfast and strong and
[12:55]solid is what a mountain subhanallah this reminds me of a hadith
[13:01]which describes the companions of the 12th imam when he reappears may
[13:05]allah hasten his reappearance [Music] says [Music] the imam isn't being figurative
[13:41]this isn't hyperbole the imam is being as literal as possible within
[13:47]the confines of the arabic language he says that if the companions
[13:50]of the imam got to a mountain and they decided within themselves
[13:53]that this mountain represents an obstacle in our way this represents an
[13:59]obstacle in the way of the imam achieving his divine mandate so
[14:03]we must remove the mountain they would single-handedly remove the mountain and
[14:09]not shake which reminds me also of one of the companions of
[14:18]a man by the name of have you heard that name before
[14:25]not one of those common names unfortunately even though traditions tell us
[14:28]that on the day of judgement a call will be made and
[14:31]this hadith is in the kishi and kashi is considered one of
[14:36]the earliest records of biography of the companions of the imams and
[14:40]the narrators of hadith an incredible text the sheikh tusi summarized it
[14:44]long story short which talks about the narrators of hadith in terms
[14:51]of authenticating them are they reliable are they not reliable and so
[14:53]on and so forth mentions this hadith that on the day of
[14:55]judgment yeti [Music] where are not the companions where are the disciples
[15:07]of ali is a person who's so close to the individual like
[15:13]the disciples of jesus right right like it's like having someone who
[15:17]is not just a companion in the sense that they spend time
[15:20]with you but they are the keepers of your secrets they are
[15:24]the ones you trust when it comes to the biggest and toughest
[15:28]missions you handed to them so the hadith says where are the
[15:32]disciples of ali and those who will rise there's about five or
[15:39]six of them one of them is um who was this man
[15:43]i remember the first time reading with hadith thinking i should know
[15:47]more about this man wasn't considered one of the disciples of the
[15:52]imam as great as he was by the way this doesn't take
[15:55]away from his status but the disciples is a title given to
[16:01]the top of the top the cream of the crop other companions
[16:14]who are incredibly great they're not also one of the disciples listen
[16:23]to what he says to amir al-mumineen he comes to the imam
[16:27]i believe in the battle of safin he says to him if
[16:37]you tell me that i should empty out a sea just try
[16:44]and visualize this right if you tell me about it that i
[16:49]should go and empty a sea an ocean and i had to
[16:54]scoop it out scoop out the water one cup at a time
[16:58]while i would do it for you if you asked me to
[17:04]tear down a mountain and i had to do it by hand
[17:06]by god i would do it for you that is my belief
[17:11]in you this this is this is what this is what they
[17:16]have debate want from us brothers and sisters i know it's a
[17:22]it's a an incredibly almost unfathomably difficult feat yes but as the
[17:29]chinese say every journey of a thousand miles begins with what one
[17:35]instead at least that's why we're here that's why muharram is there
[17:39]and that's why that's why we've been blessed with ashura in the
[17:43]remembrance of imam hussain because i swear to the almighty allah my
[17:48]dear brothers and sisters that you could walk in other seasons but
[17:56]you could run during muharram you can jump in other occasions throughout
[18:02]the year but you can make giant leaps during these blessed nights
[18:07]of muharram in the name of imam hussain by seeking inspiration from
[18:13]him don't take hussain is a lantern of guidance and an ark
[18:35]of salvation if anything can save me this petty pathetic sinful insubordinate
[18:40]soul of mine it is hussain because he is the lantern of
[18:47]guidance and the ark of salvation anyway you ask allah subhanahu ta'ala
[18:53]for you say oh allah grant me steadfastness and perseverance [Music] in
[19:02]the way of allah abdullah and we said last night i mentioned
[19:10]the hadith of imam narrated by muhammad in his blessed collection of
[19:21]hadith in which the imam says that a believer has two constant
[19:27]fears you all know that we have multiple traditions that say a
[19:33]believer can only function and move and progress towards their salvation if
[19:37]they have both hope and fear we all know that and you
[19:42]need them in equal measure you need hope but not more than
[19:47]you need fear because if you had too much hope you'd become
[19:51]complacent and you just leave it to allah allah is merciful allah
[19:54]will forgive all allah won't ask me allah don't judge me because
[19:57]you have too much hope you're like oh god is too merciful
[20:00]so you need an equal and proportionate amount of fear to tell
[20:06]you no hang on a second allah is merciful but allah also
[20:12]created hell for a reason allah is merciful but he's also wise
[20:17]allah is merciful but he's also the moon he's an avenger how
[20:24]could someone like me end up in the same place as rasulullah
[20:29]and the albeit that would be against the wisdom of god so
[20:35]i have to be cleansed i have to be purified from my
[20:40]sins so the fear has to be there the hope has to
[20:41]be there that's not what i want to talk about this hadith
[20:46]of imam assad in the book the imam breaks down the fear
[20:53]element the scale on which you have fear he breaks that down
[20:56]into two portions he says a believer has first of all fear
[21:04]of his previous sins i don't know i mean i go to
[21:12]the mosque in the holy month of ramadan it's the night of
[21:17]destiny i pray i plead i beg i grovel i cry my
[21:24]heart breaks in the hope of what of having my sins forgiven
[21:28]but do i have a blank check do i have some kind
[21:32]of a guarantee that my sins have in fact been forgiven since
[21:37]i don't where does that leave me in a constant state of
[21:43]maybe he hasn't forgiven me maybe he will hold me to accountant
[21:47]maybe i will have to answer to that maybe i will have
[21:53]to be punished for those sins i think i mentioned this hadith
[21:59]if i'm not mistaken where the imam says that once a martyr
[22:03]dies the greatest honor is for someone to die in the way
[22:15]of allah to be killed for god's sake put that aside now
[22:21]we have another hadith which says that the moment a single drop
[22:25]of a martyr falls to the ground allah forgives all of their
[22:31]sins their entire record is expunged but with a caveat except for
[22:38]this the sins and injustices they committed against other believers allah says
[22:42]you have to deal with them directly i have forgiven all of
[22:48]the sins between you and me but if you've ever hurt anyone
[22:53]if you've ever slandered someone if you've ever tarnished someone's reputation if
[22:56]you've ever committed reba against someone if you've ever made two believers
[22:59]become antagonistic toward one another those are sins you have to answer
[23:05]for or you deal with them even a martyr so the believer
[23:13]will always if you and i i won't even speak about you
[23:16]if i for a second think that i am sinless that i
[23:21]don't have anything to worry about i don't have any problems then
[23:25]i'm the worst sinner or at the very least i am the
[23:31]most juvenile imbecile it's like someone who's crazy and is laughing the
[23:37]whole time in the middle of let's say a hurricane you tell
[23:40]them listen there's a hurricane out there there's an earthquake there's a
[23:44]pandemic no no he's laughing because he doesn't know what's going on
[23:50]he's foolish that's me that's me right now thinking that bygones are
[23:56]bygones whatever i've done i did say a stuff for a lot
[24:01]of viewers that's good enough as how far as know that do
[24:05]i have any guarantees so that's one fear the second portion of
[24:11]the fear element the imam says what's going to happen in the
[24:19]future are you going to be one of the mourners of imam
[24:24]which was saying until the day you die or is it possible
[24:30]at least conceivable that i could lose my way that i could
[24:34]go astray even after being a believer is that conceivable do you
[24:40]think is that possible well i did mention a couple of examples
[24:44]yesterday took his sword after he was killed in battle in the
[24:56]battle of german because he was one of the masterminds one of
[25:00]the people who plotted and schemed against in fact he opened the
[25:07]floodgates of mutiny against the commander of the faithful but did you
[25:11]know he was the cousin of amir as i said he was
[25:16]at the house of fatherhood when the ambush happened he was the
[25:20]only one to take up arms and try to defend the mistress
[25:23]of the women of the worlds and yet fast forward 25 years
[25:29]he's standing there facing off with whom the prophet declared over and
[25:35]over and over again whoever fights you fights me when they brought
[25:43]his sword to the imam the imam took the sword he looked
[25:50]at it and in a gesture of extreme disappointment and sorrow the
[25:57]imam said it was with this sword that zubair protected the very
[26:10]life of rasulullah imagine you get to defend rasulullah from death only
[26:16]to end up in the fires of hell i'll give you a
[26:23]more perhaps shocking example a manager of the highest caliber could a
[26:32]manager go astray if the prophet's cousin could he was such a
[26:43]highly regarded manager that his resale he was the equivalent of today's
[26:46]what we call probably bigger than the title that we have today
[26:53]in other words he was the source of emulation of every xi'an
[26:59]we don't have such a bugger today the shia is split they
[27:04]follow different math different different sources of emulation may allah bless them
[27:12]all and we shouldn't ever be dragged into this mudslinging disgusting bickering
[27:19]amongst ourselves on the basis of which marjah we follow our mirage
[27:23]are doing their they're fulfilling their duties doing their thing what we
[27:28]have to do is to get off of salah for crying out
[27:32]loud what we have to do is to maintain the minute differences
[27:38]between the maraja is negligible let's not make too much of a
[27:43]deal out of it unless the person becomes a complete deviant like
[27:50]this case he was followed by almost every xi'an the time was
[27:58]during the lesser occultation during the uh ambassadorship of al hussein who
[28:08]was the third emissary of the twelfth imam the first emissary spa
[28:17]i think he was the representative of the imam the special envoy
[28:21]to the amount for about five years the second one was the
[28:25]emissary for about 45 years so after that extended period hossein came
[28:34]along when hussein of the was selected as the emissary of the
[28:41]12th imam by a royal decree a handwritten note that the imam
[28:43]sent to the second emissary there were people within the community who
[28:51]felt jealous why partly because al-hussein of nauru wasn't very recognized at
[29:00]least on a popular level on a community level he wasn't like
[29:03]this popular person that everyone expected to succeed and become the emissary
[29:09]of the imam when he became the kid when he became the
[29:14]savior a man by the name of muhammad who was a murderer
[29:19]who was a fakir who was a jurist whose book of resale
[29:24]was in every home belonging to the shia he felt jealous and
[29:30]so what did he do he created this new cult if you
[29:36]like in which he practiced walu what did he say he started
[29:43]saying that allah subhanahu wa ta'ala has emerged in the form of
[29:47]the imams of the advaith what we call in other words god
[29:53]is reincarnated in the imams of the other debate the imams had
[30:04]a zero tolerance policy when it comes to certain things one of
[30:08]them was if someone attributed divine attributes to the imams of the
[30:18]other bait as independent deities not as intercessors between us not as
[30:25]people who are endowed with knowledge of the unseen and so forth
[30:32]no no to actually claim that they are demigods as we say
[30:34]to say that the imams of the other day were gods or
[30:39]that god was reincarnated in them the imams of the other bait
[30:45]would never tolerate such a thing they were after all the guardians
[30:51]of tawheed so for the imam of our time to have someone
[30:56]who claims to be his follower and claims to be a manager
[31:04]and claims to be allah and make such a claim the imam
[31:09]wouldn't tolerate it so the imam wrote what we call a toriya
[31:11]meaning a handwritten note once again addressing the emissary as well as
[31:17]the general shia public saying that this man has deviated this man
[31:22]has made claims that are considered against allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala and therefore
[31:29]he has become a kaffir kaffir imam's not mincing words here imagine
[31:40]which is why brothers and sisters i said this last night i'll
[31:45]say it again we need to confess to the stark reality and
[31:49]to acknowledge the fact that we have nothing nothing from ourselves whatever
[31:56]we have is from allah subhanahu wa if it's knowledge it's from
[32:00]allah if it's money it's from allah if it's fame if it's
[32:02]from allah if it's any kind of recognition in the community it's
[32:06]from allah if it's any kind of authority it's from allah if
[32:09]it's any skills that we might have it's from allah subhana wa
[32:13]once you recognize this once you recognize all of this and you
[32:19]re you you separate yourself from all of these additives all of
[32:25]these things that are acquired meaning that they are given by allah
[32:32]subhanahu wa that's when you can feel relatively safe from shaytaan and
[32:37]even then you're not safe even then you're not safe because there's
[32:43]a beautiful hadith actually multiple um incidents where certain wives of the
[32:50]prophet sallallahu alaihi would tell different versions of the same thing essentially
[32:56]i'll narrate the one by almost says i woke up at night
[33:01]and i noticed the prophet was missing from his bed meaning that
[33:08]for a second i thought to myself the prophet has other wives
[33:11]as he left me and gone to one of the other wives
[33:13]what's going on so i got up from my bed i went
[33:18]to the uh the courtyard in the house because the way the
[33:21]prophet's house was designed was that there was a courtyard and there
[33:25]were rooms each one attached to the courtyard so each of the
[33:28]wives basically had a room it wasn't like separate housing for each
[33:31]of the wives so she says i went into the courtyard it
[33:35]was dark you didn't have you know torches you didn't have any
[33:40]any lighting and so i i couldn't really see very well and
[33:43]it was at that point that i noticed the holy prophet sallallahu
[33:46]alaihi was in a state of prostration he was praying and so
[33:52]i didn't disturb him i didn't bother him i just stood there
[33:56]and listened to what he was saying he was making a dua
[33:59]a supplication it's a beautiful supplication in which the prophet starts off
[34:06]by saying don't leave me to myself for a blink of an
[34:16]eye so the prophet finishes this dua and then once he gets
[34:23]up almost goes up to him and she's crying god was allah
[34:28]you you say this you're afraid that god would leave you to
[34:31]yourself you're afraid that you'll be abandoned by allah subhanahu wa if
[34:36]you say that then what's going to happen to the rest of
[34:40]us how could i ever feel safe that i will deviate that
[34:42]i won't lose my way the prophet said actually there's another hadith
[34:47]in which she says i heard the prophet say this seventy times
[34:51]he said yeah how could i feel safe from deviation when my
[34:58]own brother yunus he was neglected by god he was let to
[35:04]himself left to himself for a fraction of a second for a
[35:08]blink of an eye and look at where he ended up i
[35:16]mean [Music] had he not turned to allah once again had he
[35:27]not begged allah for forgiveness had he not exalted allah while he
[35:32]was in the belly of the whale allah would have extended his
[35:37]life and the life of the whale until the day of judgment
[35:39]and he would have had to be incarcerated and the belly of
[35:45]the whale as a form of punishment punishment for what punishment for
[35:51]neglecting allah for a blink of an eye the prophet said if
[35:59]this happened to my own brother yunus why wouldn't it happen to
[36:03]me so even the prophet yeah even the prophet feels that he
[36:07]needs to constantly pray to allah not to be left to his
[36:14]own whims left to his own and by the way what this
[36:17]actually means is i think it's important to elaborate just a little
[36:22]bit in case you're wondering to be left to our own whims
[36:26]means this at least this is one manifestation of it have you
[36:31]noticed how if you commit a sin you're young you're still kind
[36:37]of trying to explore the world and whatnot you know this is
[36:42]wrong you know that let's say stealing this packet of gums from
[36:46]the convenience store is haram you know it's wrong not because someone
[36:51]told you but because you know you have this primordial nature you
[36:55]have the fit which tells you this is wrong this this can't
[36:59]be right this is other people's property but you go ahead and
[37:03]do it anyway or you know that lying to your parents is
[37:06]haram but you go ahead and do it anyway at some point
[37:09]remember how guilty you feel obviously you feel guilty sometimes the guilt
[37:16]is so overwhelming that you can't even go to bed that night
[37:20]and this is one of the blessings of allah that guilt is
[37:24]your own conscience telling you you shouldn't have done this that's your
[37:28]own spiritual immune system telling you you should not have done this
[37:32]this is wrong this isn't you you're better than this the second
[37:38]time around that sense of guilt is diminished also slightly i remember
[37:47]reading in the autobiography of a sniper who was in the u.s
[37:52]army in iraq it was a lot of news about him a
[37:56]few years ago i forgot what his name was but he was
[37:59]considered one of the most deadly snipers in u.s military history he
[38:06]killed something like 500 people in iraq and so he wrote a
[38:11]book and i think they even made a movie about it they
[38:12]adapted the book into a into a movie obviously making him out
[38:17]to be this incredible hero um who at some point decided against
[38:22]shooting a a child masha allah look at the mercy and the
[38:32]compassion of this uh human killing machine so anyway one of the
[38:36]things he says in the book is they ask him like was
[38:39]it hard is it hard killing human beings and he's like at
[38:42]first it is but it gets easier the second time the third
[38:47]time the fourth time by the 10th 12th time you don't even
[38:50]think about it it's just spontaneous it's automatic you go by muscle
[38:53]memory you just try and do the best job you can of
[38:57]course you know it's not that he doesn't feel any guilt anymore
[39:00]but that voice of his consciousness that tells him this is wrong
[39:04]is now so faint and so weak that it might as well
[39:09]not even be there god letting us leaving us to our own
[39:15]whims is this guilt becoming smaller and weaker and weaker and weaker
[39:20]until it's gone so if you ever feel that you've consistently committed
[39:29]the same sin and you don't really like it doesn't even bother
[39:35]you anymore be careful be afraid that perhaps allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
[39:39]is saying you know what i've tried i gave you the conscience
[39:45]i gave you the quran i gave you the scholars i gave
[39:46]you the books i gave you all of these reminders but it
[39:50]looks like you don't really care so you know what do whatever
[39:54]you want doesn't that happen in classrooms doesn't that happen in families
[39:58]where a child is so insubordinate so willingly and deliberately trying not
[40:08]to listen to people who are wiser and smarter than them their
[40:12]parents to the point where it gets to a point where the
[40:17]insubordination is so obvious that the parents were like you know what
[40:22]i there's nothing i can do about him anymore or her they
[40:26]can do whatever they want i've seen this that is allah leading
[40:32]us to our whims look at says to the holy prophet it's
[40:48]a divine call to the holy messenger of god to deliver a
[40:54]message what is it push the believers to go and fight to
[41:05]practice jihad struggle hard against the disbelievers and the pagans polytheists struggle
[41:21]fight in the first verse allah says if you have 20 who
[41:27]are patient they will become victorious against 200.
[41:32]so there's this constant push go fight don't be afraid you're not
[41:39]afraid of death they are that's what gives you the edge look
[41:45]at what the companions of imam hussain did some reports say that
[41:52]he was over 90 years old he's depicted in the movie as
[41:57]this young muscular man which kind of makes sense given what he's
[42:00]done but some say he was an elderly man people used to
[42:05]wear if you're trying to protect yourself and save your own life
[42:08]instead of one layer of armor you put on two three four
[42:13]whatever you can so that the shower of arrows that is coming
[42:18]towards you like bullets if one layer doesn't stop it then maybe
[42:24]the two will stop it maybe three will stop it if you're
[42:27]trying to protect your life this is what you do he goes
[42:30]out there he notices that the enemy is charging against his master
[42:36]in order to distract them from the imam he says you know
[42:41]what attack me come get me so he takes off his armor
[42:44]throws it to the ground he takes off his helmet throws it
[42:46]to the ground he still can't get their attention he then takes
[42:50]off his shirt and says i have nothing come kill me leave
[42:54]my master hose alone i saw one report that said that when
[42:58]abyss headed towards the right flank of umar bin sad's army you
[43:07]know what means it's like someone having a taking a walk in
[43:14]the park one report literally says that when he charged against the
[43:19]enemy it was like a lion chasing after a flock of sheep
[43:21]they would all flee from him run away from him may my
[43:35]parents be ransomed for you what is it that made these people
[43:39]so powerful and so strong against an army of thirty thousand at
[43:41]the very least the most conservative estimates are thirty thousand the hadith
[43:48]what is it that made them so powerful that they ended up
[43:53]killing so many and i won't put a number to it because
[43:55]we don't know we honestly don't know it's speculation what we do
[44:00]know is this they say that after the battle of karbala every
[44:04]home in kufa was mourning someone who was killed by imam al-hussein's
[44:10]camp khufa was a city every home was mourning someone every home
[44:15]had a medullus for their dead corpses who were killed by the
[44:20]imam and his companions how first of all the quran says that
[44:26]if you have 20 who are patient they can kill 200 right
[44:30]in the case of the companions of imam al-hussein you may have
[44:36]had about a hundred but they included the likes of ahabasib they
[44:45]included the likes of al-qasim al-qasim 13 years old reports i was
[44:53]looking at it today reports say that qasim at his young age
[44:55]killed 80 of them eighty al-azra was someone who was akin to
[45:08]am ripped you all know the story of ahmadinewood a man by
[45:12]the name of al-azhar originally from was considered to be a warrior
[45:17]that could face off with a thousand men when he came to
[45:23]karbala he just sat there and watched umar bin sat came to
[45:27]him he said look when i go back to ibn ziyad i
[45:30]will tell him you did nothing why are you sitting down why
[45:33]aren't you fighting he said because i'm not going to fight a
[45:36]bunch of children and a few soldiers who don't even have horses
[45:44]this is beneath me he said so um said but you have
[45:54]to fight it's the order of he said you know what i'm
[45:58]going to send one of my eight sons to go fight he
[46:02]said do you know who your son will be fighting with it
[46:06]is al-qasim the orphan of imam al-hasan he said the thirteen-year-old i'll
[46:13]send my youngest boy to go and finish him off he sent
[46:19]his boy he was immediately killed by a cousin this time it
[46:22]became personal he sent the second boy he was killed the third
[46:27]the fourth the fifth all eight of them were sent straight at
[46:30]the bottom of hell awesome and again these aren't exaggerations but qasim
[46:36]was a boy he was 13 years old but he was trained
[46:41]by his uncle abbas okay that's the difference plus qasim is there
[46:45]to die for his uncle he's not there to win a handful
[46:50]of dates he's not there to be praised by his friends one
[46:54]of the brothers of imam al-hussein alaihissalam one of the younger brothers
[46:57]of abel abbas i believe his name was when he came to
[47:05]imam al-hussein and asked him for permission to go and fight the
[47:08]imam wanted to test him so he said to him don't you
[47:15]see the shower of arrows coming towards us how do you survive
[47:21]this he said my brother hussain the one who's here determined to
[47:35]give you the blood of his heart couldn't care less about how
[47:38]many there are and what weapons they're using and how many arrows
[47:43]they're shooting i'm here to die for you that's the difference allah
[47:50]was the last person to go he said may the sins of
[47:55]all of the arab tribes fall onto my shoulder if i don't
[48:01]make this boy's uncle grieve for him and even he was killed
[48:05]by al-qasam that's the difference right when you have allah subhanahu wa
[48:10]ta'ala on your side when you recognize that you have nothing of
[48:14]your own and everything you have is from him foreign whoever wants
[48:52]honor without a tribe whoever wants wealth without money whoever wants glory
[49:01]then they should extract themselves from the humiliation of sinning and disobedience
[49:10]to allah and enter the sanctuary of obedience to him now why
[49:16]did i say all of this allah telling the believers to go
[49:21]fight to struggle to practice jihad but when it comes to shaytaan
[49:25]allah doesn't say ya rasulallah go and struggle in the way of
[49:33]shaytan no no he doesn't say that you know what he says
[49:35]is shaytaan o messenger seek refuge in allah from the shaitaan because
[49:44]the shaytan is not easy to overcome you can't do it on
[49:55]your own seek help from allah i seek refuge in you protect
[50:00]me from the shaytan protect me from falling into his traps save
[50:05]me o allah i can't do it if you ever feel trapped
[50:11]by a desire by lust by a bad sinful habit that you
[50:14]can't overcome seek refuge in who and allah subhanahu wa ta'ala nfc
[50:25]even prophet yusuf says i don't have any guarantee that i can't
[50:31]fall into sin i know my soul is one that has evil
[50:34]inclinations the only way i can save myself is to is to
[50:39]reach out to allah wa ya allah you helped me prophet ayub
[50:43]alaihi said o allah i ask you to protect me from my
[50:48]sins and my transgressions because i know that without your help i
[50:52]will commit a sin he's not challenging god he's just making a
[50:56]statement of fact without your help i will fall into sin i
[50:59]will slip up when it comes to shaytan when it comes to
[51:06]fearing deviation in our lives you have to reach out to allah
[51:11]you have to beg him for help you have to ask him
[51:14]to intervene in your life that's why you reach out to abba
[51:16]abdullah that's why you say with a bitly i do apologize especially
[51:31]from our esteemed guest this and eminence him a long life of
[51:38]service to abba abdullah having served in this capacity for decades may
[51:44]allah prolong his life let's take you to the three-year-old orphan of
[51:53]abba abdullah i thought long and hard about which aspect of the
[52:02]tragedy of imam al-hussein to convey to you tonight but i felt
[52:06]like definitely deserves a mention early on in the ten nights of
[52:16]muharram those of you who have been to sham know that she
[52:20]has a small shrine with an even smaller crypt of arie that
[52:26]believers flocked to from across the globe and i had the honor
[52:32]and the privilege of spending several years there visiting her shrine one
[52:36]thing you'll notice in sha allah when you all get to go
[52:39]there one day is that the streets leading down to the shrine
[52:45]are they have there's a lot of stores and many of those
[52:52]stores sell children's toys part of the reason is that the pilgrims
[52:57]come and they think what do i take to the shrine of
[53:03]lady raqqa and so they end up buying dolls if you ask
[53:09]them why are you buying a doll why are you doing this
[53:14]buying toys and then leaving them at the shrine of ladies they'll
[53:21]say where we come from wherever that may be if we saw
[53:25]an orphan the best way to calm down the orphan if she's
[53:31]crying and she's asking for her father who's dead who's deceased is
[53:35]by giving her a doll to play with may my life be
[53:42]ransomed for the orphan who instead of being given a doll or
[53:45]a toy to play with she was given her father's sever had
[53:51]to be ever healed you know ladies on the way to karbala
[53:59]while she was with abba abdullah hussain historians say that her mother
[54:05]was already deceased did you know that she didn't have a mother
[54:10]all she had was abba abdullah and boy was she daddy's girl
[54:14]allahu akbar as most girls are right and so she'd constantly spend
[54:20]as much time with her father as she could and so on
[54:24]the day of she was too young to understand what happened there
[54:31]are many indications to this by the way that she didn't quite
[54:37]grasp what happened to her father she did notice that ali akbar
[54:41]went and never came back that abbas went and never came back
[54:47]that al qasim went and never came back and that ultimately her
[54:50]father went and never came back she did hear her father say
[54:56]she heard her father's voice but he never came back all she
[55:00]saw was the horse without her father so she didn't quite know
[55:06]what happened to abba abdullah hussain she would cry a lot and
[55:10]so some have speculated we don't have these details but some have
[55:14]said that perhaps the way imam al-hussein calmed her down the way
[55:18]lady zainab rather calmed her down just a little bit was the
[55:23]way rasulullah calmed down his daughter fatima what did the prophet do
[55:28]when he noticed his daughter crying profusely while he lay in his
[55:33]death bed she says my father whispered in my ear he said
[55:43]a few words after which fatima zara went from crying to smiling
[55:48]when they asked her why were you crying just a moment ago
[55:55]and now you're smiling from ear to ear she said because my
[56:00]father told me you will be the first person to join me
[56:03]after my death in other words they won't spare you for too
[56:10]long you will be joining me very soon on a found solace
[56:14]in her father telling her that you will join me perhaps that
[56:19]is how lady zainab gave solace to that is how abba abdullah
[56:26]comforted his daughter and so all along as they were moving from
[56:32]karbala and the caravan was heading towards kufa rukaya must have felt
[56:38]excited my father told me that we will meet once again in
[56:41]the we will meet once again in the ruins of sham what
[56:46]is the ruins where is sham a three-year-old doesn't know these things
[56:51]but she's excited i will meet my father very soon and so
[56:56]when they got to the khariba that night she started crying it's
[57:02]been too long [Music] which is when ladies and gentlemen your father
[57:10]is on a trip he is traveling meaning the suffer of but
[57:15]that night she couldn't have it she wouldn't have any of these
[57:19]excuses anymore i want my father i want my father now let's
[57:23]not kid ourselves brothers and sisters we know that if you bring
[57:29]the severed head of a father to his three-year-old daughter we know
[57:33]that's going to kill her he wasn't trying to comfort rukaya bellahin
[57:38]was trying to kill her because he was humiliated by zainab in
[57:44]his court and so he wanted zainab to bear the pain of
[57:49]yet another martyr this time when they walked in i could only
[57:56]imagine lady zainab getting up and saying please don't show the head
[57:59]to the girl i promise she will go back to sleep i
[58:02]promise to make her quiet again they say that one of the
[58:10]times zainab was lashed was at this moment they lashed her on
[58:14]zainab as soon as rokaya removed that veil removed the cover she
[58:20]might have thought to herself when i meet my father i'm gonna
[58:23]tell him what they did to us i'm gonna show him my
[58:28]feet i will show him my bruised body i will show him
[58:32]what they did to my face but as soon as she saw
[58:36]her father's severed head she forgot all about her feet and hands
[58:39]and face she said oh father who did this to you who
[58:50]cut your lips who made your beard full of your own [Applause]
[59:02]blood [Music] oh [Music]
