[0:14]foreign in our last lecture we shed light on the verse in
[0:52]which allah subhanahu wa speaks about pharaoh and his people and mentions
[0:58]that although they saw clear signs performed by musa alaihissalam and were
[1:07]certain that those were miracles from allah they still disbelieved in those
[1:18]signs and musa alaihissalam which brought us to quraish and what they
[1:26]did to rasulallah we said ultimately unfortunately quraysh did the same quraysh
[1:34]saw marvelous miracles performed by the holy prophet sallallahu alaihi then we
[1:55]mentioned several narrations and or stances regarding abu talib for we were
[2:03]commemorating the demise anniversary of that great giant abu talib we mentioned
[2:11]a few of the many proofs confirming his faith and we also
[2:17]mentioned some of his stances in defense share the same religion they
[2:37]all believe in what in the religion of god which is islam
[2:41]they all called their people to islam meaning to submit to the
[2:47]commands of allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala and we've understood that the difference which
[2:54]lies between certain sets of laws like the set of law of
[2:59]musa the set of laws of musa and the set of laws
[3:03]of muhammad doesn't mean or imply that the prophets were calling to
[3:11]different religions or were calling their people to different paths we said
[3:19]that the difference which existed between the sets of laws of god
[3:24]subhanahu wata'ala when allah changed his own laws from time to time
[3:33]this was because of what this was because of mankind in better
[3:42]terms allah modified his own laws because the needs of people would
[3:49]differ from time to time in fact in fact when we look
[3:56]at the set of laws of muhammad we find that there are
[4:04]two types of laws a temporary law which would be later on
[4:10]replaced by a permanent law and a permanent law which would replace
[4:14]the temporary law the temporary law is called what it's called whereas
[4:25]the permanent law is called hokumun nasik a law that is permanent
[4:35]and that replaces the temporary law here you might ask can you
[4:44]give us an example about and man we say yes alhamdulillah we
[4:55]have plenty of examples plenty of examples i would like to refer
[4:59]you to a tradition a lengthy tradition by imam assad mentioned had
[5:18]multiple sessions with his shias and in those sessions imam ali would
[5:25]speak about the different types of verses in the quran and would
[5:33]give examples pertaining to those types of verses so he mentioned for
[5:37]example and gave examples on verses he mentioned and gave examples on
[5:47]mutasa bihat verses so on so forth when speaking about anna one
[5:58]of which was the following one of which pertained to what to
[6:05]the month of ramadan since we're fasting the month of ramadan i
[6:08]found this specific example to be quite suitable to mention in these
[6:16]lectures the imam alayhi salaam says that when allah prescribed fasting upon
[6:25]the muslims when he obligated the muslims to fast he informed them
[6:33]that it is unlawful for a man forgiving for my words to
[6:38]have intercourse with his wife during the month of ramadan not only
[6:44]during the day but even during the night so at start the
[6:50]muslims were not allowed the muslim men weren't allowed to have intercourse
[6:54]with their wives during the days and nights of the month of
[7:00]ramadan the imam says the imam says that this was the fast
[7:06]prescribed upon banu israel allah had prescribed such a fast on the
[7:15]children of israel and it was mentioned that specific type of fast
[7:21]or fast thing was mentioned in the taurat on top of that
[7:26]imam ali says that it was forbidden for a muslim to eat
[7:34]at night after he sleeps even if he wakes up before the
[7:43]real dawn before fajib so he says if a muslim slept at
[7:46]the start of the night whether he ate or not would not
[7:50]make a difference if he woke up during the night before the
[7:55]real dawn he wouldn't be allowed to eat these two laws were
[8:05]what were temporary laws the imam says there was an old man
[8:12]called mataham ibn he was from the companions was helping the muslims
[8:20]dig the trench what trench if you remember yesterday we mentioned the
[8:25]battle of the trench also called the battle of el ahzab the
[8:31]clans long story short abu sufyan gathered different groups of people and
[8:39]formed a huge a humongous army so he may come forth with
[8:47]the army to medina invade madina and put an end to islam
[8:51]and muslims so the prophet consulted his companions not because rasulullah was
[9:08]in need of consulting them for he is the prophet of god
[9:12]and the seal of messengers he knows what to do rather because
[9:17]this was part of his good morals and rasulullah would consult the
[9:25]companions in order to show the muslims which companions possess strong intellects
[9:32]and present solid and strong opinions which companions possess strong intellect and
[9:42]present correct opinions then again he also wanted to show them which
[9:48]companions possess weak intellects and present the wrong opinions so when he
[9:57]consulted his companions who was from persia told the prophet you told
[10:06]him back in persia we have a tactic a defensive tactic that
[10:14]we use when an enemy tries to attack us and that is
[10:17]to dig a trench to dig a trench around our location so
[10:23]the prophet sallallahu alaihi liked the idea and commanded the muslims to
[10:29]to do what tadiga trench hence the muslims began digging a massive
[10:37]trench that was that resembled a semi-circle they dug it around half
[10:46]of the medina half of the city of medina so it resembled
[10:52]a semi-circle tradition say they spent six days in digging the trench
[11:00]came to help the muslims in what in digging the trench then
[11:06]on that day he went back to his house and prayed salat
[11:11]and which means it was time for iftar it was time to
[11:15]break his fast by the way they were digging the trench during
[11:18]the month of ramadan they were fasting so matam went back home
[11:22]prayed salat al-mahrib and it was time to do what it was
[11:27]time to break his fast so he waited for his wife to
[11:31]bring the food but his wife was taking a while the imam
[11:39]says hence matam fell asleep when he fell asleep and woke up
[11:43]he told his wife you eat the food you eat the food
[11:49]as for me i cannot eat anymore i've already slept so what
[11:57]did he do he remained without food on that night the next
[12:02]day was fasting and he went to help the muslims in digging
[12:07]the trench as he was working what happened he fainted which makes
[12:16]sense right ultimately the man has not eaten for two days right
[12:21]he has not eaten any food he did not eat any food
[12:27]during the past day secondly he is digging a trench which requires
[12:34]a lot of effort thirdly he's working under what under the burning
[12:41]sun of arabia you know in arabia it's it's very hot so
[12:46]you could imagine how hot it was during those days hence what
[12:52]happened to matam he fainted when he fainted rasulullah came to him
[13:00]and asked him about his issue told rasulallah the story the imam
[13:06]says imam ali he says meanwhile there were a few young men
[13:15]amongst the muslims who were disobeying allah subhanahu wa tahara they were
[13:20]having intercourse with their wives in secret obviously and they were disobeying
[13:26]allah because it was unlawful for them to do so during the
[13:30]whole month of ramadan so the prophet salallahu and asked him to
[13:38]do what asked him to change the the law to change the
[13:42]law to make it easier so allah azza brought down a verse
[13:47]in the quran found today in surat al-baqarah saying up until he
[14:01]says that from now on you are allowed to have intercourse with
[14:15]your wives during the nights of the month month of ramadan not
[14:20]during the day because that is one of the invalidators of fasting
[14:23]secondly he told them that they're allowed to eat and drink up
[14:27]until one up until the real dawn but when mentioning the real
[14:34]dawn allah said what does that mean here allah is mentioning the
[14:48]sign of the real dawn you see if you're standing and if
[14:56]you're observing the horizon if you're observing the horizon before the real
[15:02]dawn at night and there are no obstacles between you and the
[15:08]horizon for example there isn't a mountain there aren't trees etc if
[15:14]you can see the horizon clearly you can see the point where
[15:18]it seems that the sky is touching the earth and you look
[15:21]carefully when it's time when it's the time of el fijra sadiq
[15:29]the real dawn you will see a beautiful phenomenon what will you
[15:33]see you'll see a horizontal beam of light emerging on the horizon
[15:40]this is what allah is mentioning when he says some people unfortunately
[15:54]misunderstood this verse thinking that allah is speaking about threats he's not
[15:57]talking about threats he's talking about a natural phenomenon which takes place
[16:04]at the real dawn so based on this story and based on
[16:11]a tradition of imam ali and imam we understand that there were
[16:17]two laws pertaining to the month of ramadan there was a temporary
[16:22]law and that was the forbiddens of having intercourse with a person's
[16:29]spouse during the day and during the days and nights of the
[16:33]month of ramadan and number two the forbiddens of eating after waking
[16:37]up at night before the real dawn these two were changed by
[16:43]the permanent law so yes yes there were certain laws in the
[16:52]islamic sharia in the islamic set of laws that were what thou
[16:57]were changed why one will ask why would allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala change
[17:03]certain laws in the same shariah in the same set of laws
[17:07]we say for the same reason we mentioned yesterday the same exact
[17:14]reason the presence of a temporary law in a set of law
[17:21]in a divine set of laws means that the people were in
[17:28]need of that temporary law but when the need changed allah did
[17:33]what he changed the law so he replaced the temporary one and
[17:39]mansur with the permanent one and nasser here one might ask so
[17:51]does that does that mean does that mean the laws of islam
[17:58]might change from time to time does that mean as we progress
[18:03]in time the laws of rasulallah will be replaced with other laws
[18:11]we say no it doesn't mean that why because when allah completed
[18:20]his religion when allah completed the religion of islam and bestowed and
[18:28]perfected the blessing that he bestowed upon us telling us today i
[18:37]have completed your religion for you and i've perfected my bounty the
[18:49]bounty i've bestowed upon you and i'm pleased that you take islam
[18:56]as a religion when was this set to the muslims this is
[19:00]a verse in sunnah referring to what to what day to the
[19:09]day of the day rasulallah made the greatest announcement the biggest announcement
[19:15]pertaining to imam ali's guardianship and imamit and the guardianship and imamite
[19:30]when he made his holy announcement in hadir and appointed imam ali
[19:38]as his successor and the imam in caliph after him allah brought
[19:42]down these verses that are found in surat the completion of the
[19:50]religion the completion of their religion implies what it implies that the
[20:00]religion will stay as it is that it implies that the laws
[20:05]that the laws that existed at the day of hadir or during
[20:16]the day of will continue to exist until the day of judgment
[20:22]for allah subhanahu wa ta'ala has decreed that muhammad is the last
[20:27]prophet and messenger if muhammad is the last prophet and messenger and
[20:35]muhammad's religion has been perfected completed on the day of hadir this
[20:44]means the laws that existed during that day will continue to exist
[20:48]and people will be demanded to apply those laws from that time
[20:53]till the day of judgment this is crystal clear as in when
[21:02]we look at quranic verses and the narrations we find this reality
[21:11]to be crystal clear for example when you come to the book
[21:14]al-kafi for there is a beautiful tradition with a sahih chain of
[21:28]narrators so please keep that point in mind this tradition is correct
[21:32]the content is correct and the chain of narrators is also what
[21:39]does it say it says about the lawful and the unlawful meaning
[21:50]about islamic law so the imam told him will remain to be
[22:06]lawful until the day of judgment will remain to be unlawful until
[22:25]the day of judgment won't create a new set of laws to
[22:37]bring it down so it may replace muhammad's set of laws look
[22:40]at the precision in imam salvik's word he says allah won't even
[22:47]create a new set of laws to replace the set of laws
[22:53]of muhammad so if he won't even create a new set of
[22:54]laws to replace muhammad's set of laws that means there won't be
[23:01]a new set of laws coming down after muhammad's hence he said
[23:10]which means no new set of laws will be brought down by
[23:19]god after the set of laws of muhammad s people from his
[23:25]time the time of rasulullah up until the day of judgment or
[23:31]demanded to do what to implement rasulullah's laws to follow muhammad's laws
[23:43]here another question might come to mind and that is is it
[23:56]possible for one set of laws to be so rich it can
[24:02]cover the needs or say fulfill the needs of mankind from the
[24:08]prophet's time till the day of judgment i mean you know people
[24:13]uh as we progress in time people might go through different needs
[24:21]new needs might arise so could it be that one set of
[24:29]laws will be enough to cover all of their needs from the
[24:32]time of muhammad till the day of judgment we say yes why
[24:37]do you find that hard to believe allah subhanahu wa is the
[24:46]creator and he is the lawmaker the lawmaker is the creator and
[24:49]vice versa has infinite knowledge and infinite power he has so much
[25:01]power he is able to create he has he has unbelievable power
[25:08]to the point he's able to create a whole universe filled with
[25:16]wonders and secrets although that universe didn't exist please focus on the
[25:22]word didn't exist what does that mean it means at a certain
[25:29]phase the universe was absolutely nothing it wasn't something turned into something
[25:33]else no no it was not thing and allah brought it into
[25:38]existence the god who's able to do that is also able to
[25:45]bring down a set of laws so detailed and so rich filled
[25:53]with primary laws and secondary laws to the point it can fulfill
[25:57]the needs of humanity in fact it can fulfill the needs of
[26:02]humans engines from the time of rasulallah till the day of judgment
[26:07]for ultimately the lawmaker is the creator and vice versa here i
[26:20]recall an interesting story a frightening scary yet interesting story pertaining to
[26:30]omar ibn the story has been narrated by sunni scholars like ahmad
[26:38]ibn hanban you can also find it in the book so you
[26:44]can find it in muslim and also what does it say long
[26:50]story short it says that one day um came to rasulullah as
[26:59]he was holding a book what was inside the book omar had
[27:08]basically copied a part of the taurat which taurat the taurat which
[27:16]existed during the time of rasulallah not the essential taurat that was
[27:20]brought down upon musa so omar had copied a part of the
[27:30]taurat in arabic and he brought that book to and began reading
[27:37]that part of the torah in front of the prophet sallallahu alaihi
[27:43]the tradition says rasulallah's face began changing he was angry it began
[27:52]changing to the point in some traditions al-ansar the ansar realized rasulallah
[27:59]was angry and so some of them called others telling them to
[28:04]do what to bring their weapons so they bought their weapons and
[28:10]they surrounded the prophet sallallahu alaihi which tells you a lot about
[28:14]his anger at that point he was quite angry to the point
[28:17]that ansar thought that they should be ready for what for an
[28:20]attack and they should be ready to defend rasulallah sallallahu alaihi alaihi
[28:27]wasallam here a particular individual from the ansar spoke to and he
[28:39]told him he told him what are you doing oh omar can't
[28:43]you see rasulallah's face getting angry he's getting bothered by what you're
[28:50]doing so here the prophet made a comment what did he say
[28:55]he said do you want to confuse yourselves by reading such books
[29:10]then he i've brought you a religion that is pure from all
[29:29]falsehood free from falsehood a pure religion that contains only truth what's
[29:36]he saying let's take a few minutes to understand rasulullah's comments here
[29:45]we need to realize a few points firstly there is no doubt
[29:56]that the taurat that descended upon musa was a book of guidance
[30:01]was a book of god brought down upon musa which means it
[30:05]only contained truth there was absolutely no falsehood in it and there's
[30:13]no doubt that the injeel that was brought down upon isa alaihissalam
[30:18]was a divine book a book of god and it only contained
[30:24]truth there was absolutely no falsehood in the injeel so we have
[30:30]no problem whatsoever rasulullah has no problem alright have no problem the
[30:35]muslims have no problem whatsoever with what with the essential taurat and
[30:39]the essential injil this is the first point the second point is
[30:49]unfortunately after away after musa passed away there were certain people who
[30:55]altered the torah which is quite unfortunate and the same took place
[31:03]with the injil of isa alaihissalam was also altered after isa's ascension
[31:10]after he ascended to the sky peace be upon him this is
[31:16]something clear it's not something that you know something that for example
[31:24]cannot be proven no no no if we look carefully at the
[31:29]old and new testaments today and we look at the torah or
[31:34]the gospels we're going to find with all due respect to jews
[31:41]and christians we're going to find certain passages that cannot be accepted
[31:49]certain passages that that cannot be accepted by the intellect hence a
[31:54]person will come to the conclusion to the obvious conclusion that these
[31:59]passages didn't exist in the essential taurat or the essential injeel i'll
[32:05]give you an example you might be asking yourselves what are these
[32:10]passages i'll give you two examples of passages in the taurat for
[32:16]example in the story of lulu in the story of loot according
[32:25]to the modern tavrat luth drank wine and became intoxicated and slept
[32:35]with his own daughters god forbid god forbid i repeat according to
[32:43]the modern taurat luth drank wine became intoxicated and he slept with
[32:53]his own daughters is this a prophet of god is a noble
[32:58]and pure prophet he would never do such a thing allah would
[33:05]never allow luth to fall into intoxication and then to commit that
[33:12]hideous sin to commit incest let alone committing fornication or adultery this
[33:20]passage is definitely not found it's not part of the essential taurat
[33:25]someone added this passage the second example is that of david according
[33:33]to the modern taurat david alaihissalam who was a king and a
[33:37]prophet killed one of his generals he killed one of his generals
[33:45]meaning he killed an innocent soul and then committed fornication with that
[33:49]person's wife he committed zina with that person's wife is that a
[33:58]prophet that would never do such a thing that would not do
[34:05]injustice to an ant let alone doing injustice to a human let
[34:10]alone killing an innocent human being hence our imams completely refuted this
[34:18]bogus story they completely refuted this bogus story in fact imam ali
[34:26]would say if anyone comes forth and narrates the story of dawood
[34:31]pertaining to his general called uria and saying how he killed him
[34:37]and then fornicated with his wife if anyone near its story he
[34:42]will receive two punishments from me two punishments from ali ibn abi
[34:50]talib they completely refuted that story because it's bogus while this is
[34:55]found in the current torah unfortunately so we repeat unfortunately after musa
[35:02]and isa alayhim there were certain people who played with the words
[35:10]of god subhanallah as a result what happened as a result there
[35:15]were passages of truth in those books but there are also passages
[35:20]of falsehood as in there were some passages that were left as
[35:26]they were then again there were certain passages that were altered or
[35:30]added to the passages of the taurat and the injeel hence when
[35:38]someone like or an average muslim comes forth and starts reading these
[35:45]books what will happen he will confuse himself become confused he won't
[35:52]know how to differentiate between what's right and what's wrong between the
[35:58]passages of truth and the other passages this is why rasulallah tells
[36:04]you do you want to confuse yourself by reading these scripts or
[36:11]these books oh son of katab i swear by allah i've brought
[36:21]you a pure religion that contains nothing but truth it's as if
[36:26]he's telling him why are you going there instead of coming to
[36:32]this religion which preserves the true religion of isa and musa the
[36:38]religion of muhammad which can which contains nothing but truth rasulullah knew
[36:48]what he was saying rasulullah knew that if he didn't make a
[36:55]comment against what omar was doing and if he did not express
[37:01]his anger against what omar was doing the next day the next
[37:08]day you'd find the muslims you know reading the uh the altered
[37:15]taurad and the altered injil and that will do what that will
[37:22]only lead them to confusion that will only lead them to confusion
[37:25]bear in mind isn't telling us that as muslims were not allowed
[37:34]to read books written by other individuals written by non-muslims even if
[37:44]those books contain beliefs or thoughts that contradict our faith rasulullah isn't
[37:52]saying this on the contrary a muslim is allowed to read a
[37:58]book written by a non-muslim or even written by a so-called muslim
[38:03]if that book contains beliefs or thoughts that contradict our faith provided
[38:09]that one condition is fulfilled what condition is that provided that the
[38:17]human being will be certain he is safe from misguidance the person
[38:23]who is reading that book should be certain that if he reads
[38:28]the book he won't deviate as in he should be certain that
[38:37]he has a strong belief in islam and he has enough knowledge
[38:45]to resist deviation he has enough knowledge to refrain from deviation when
[38:50]he reads those non-islamic beliefs or non-islamic thoughts and in case a
[38:57]fallacy is produced in that person's mind he'll refer to the knowledge
[39:02]he has or to his scholars so he can remove that fallacy
[39:07]however if a person doesn't actually know if a person isn't certain
[39:14]that he won't deviate if he reads those books then yes at
[39:20]that point it is unlawful for him to read such books it
[39:24]will be unlawful for him because there is a danger of what
[39:28]a danger of deviation which is a serious matter if a person
[39:34]deviates and dies as he's deviated he will lose what he will
[39:42]lose his his hereafter he will dwell in eternal damnation god forbid
[39:48]so again i repeat in this tradition rasulullah isn't saying that muslims
[39:57]aren't allowed to read books written by non-muslims or books that contain
[40:06]non-islamic beliefs or thoughts that's not what he's saying look at our
[40:13]imams look at imam you'll see that our imams knew they knew
[40:25]what other people had written in their books they had full knowledge
[40:29]of all the books in existence they had full knowledge of the
[40:37]essential taurat and injeel and they also had full knowledge of what
[40:44]of the altered taurat and indian hence when imam rival debated certain
[40:52]scholars in the uh gathering of when he debated the christians and
[40:59]the jews and people of different faiths what did he do did
[41:04]he use the quran to disprove the christian for example or the
[41:09]jew or that person or this person no he used the book
[41:17]or books that this specific person accepted so when he spoke with
[41:23]the christians he would use what the bible he would use verses
[41:29]from the bible which was present during his time in order to
[41:34]disprove the christian same goes for the jew he would use verses
[41:39]from the taurat so on so forth the tradition continues the tradition
[41:49]of rasulullah continues until he tells omar the following please focus on
[41:58]this vital word he says he said if musa was alive amongst
[42:11]amongst you he would be obligated to follow me subhanallah he's mentioning
[42:19]musa who is the main prophet in judaism and telling omar listen
[42:25]if allah right now resurrected musa musa would have to follow my
[42:34]laws which makes sense why because muhammad is the master of the
[42:38]prophets and his set of laws isn't only an eternal set of
