[0:07][Music] alham [Music] [Music] [Music] mamam [Music] [Music] yeah [Music] [Music] ABD
[1:59]y caral [Music] [Music] for [Music] last night we started our series
[3:15]titled the Triple A of Islam a for jur the theology beliefs
[3:25]a for ethics and manners and a foram Juris Prudence the laws
[3:31]and we started our discussion by stating an excerpt from the sermon
[3:37]of Imam Hussein when he was about to leave from Mecca and
[3:42]among the things he said in that sermon is whoever is ready
[3:52]to sacrifice his life for us and has prepared himself to meeting
[4:04]his Lord then let him join us so he set two criteria
[4:12]one who is ready to sacrifice his life for us that's one
[4:16]criteria second is what he has prepared himself to meeting his Lord
[4:26]then let him come and join us it is those two criteria
[4:31]and we mentioned if you remember people's response to this call fell
[4:39]under five categories those who wanted to kill the IM people like
[4:46]ya and those leaders the leaders and the commanders who wanted to
[4:53]kill him then you had the other group who were the followers
[4:56]of the leaders those are the followers you have leaders and you
[5:04]have followers they just follow because the leader said so they follow
[5:07]it and on the day of judgment Allah says on the day
[5:16]of judgment those who were the leaders those who are being followed
[5:19]will disassociate themselves from the followers that's what will happen on the
[5:24]day of judgment and we mentioned some of those who were followers
[5:32]some of them like even sympathized with IM Hussein they kind of
[5:37]felt sympathies towards him but they're Following the Leader said kill him
[5:41]they went ahead and they joined the army and they killed him
[5:46]this is the second group the third group if you remember it
[5:49]was the group that did not want to kill him nor support
[5:55]him and they gave excuses some of them said we're not ready
[5:58]to die yet some of them said we have children we have
[6:03]families we have to take care of so they gave excuses to
[6:05]them these were legitimate excuses you know I have kids I have
[6:08]families I have so and so so they left the IM and
[6:13]they went that's the third category the third group they did not
[6:15]want to support the IM nor did they want to go and
[6:20]kill him that's the third group the fourth group if you remember
[6:24]what was the fourth group do you remember the fourth group who
[6:29]was the fourth group those who supported the IM they came with
[6:33]him some people came with the IM inala even fought next to
[6:39]the IM they fought but he was not ready to get killed
[6:44]when he saw all the companions have died he made an agreement
[6:51]with the Imam in Prior when all your companions die I will
[6:55]leave abdah so when that happened he was not ready to die
[7:03]he fought next to the IM but when it came to the
[7:12]final decision of sacrifice he couldn't do it he withdrew and then
[7:16]came the fifth group those were the people who were ready they
[7:21]were ready to sacrifice themselves for they're ready to give their lives
[7:34]they are prepared they prepared to meeting Allah subhah wa taala that
[7:41]was the fifth group those are Companions of the IM and the
[7:45]who died with him supported him and were ready to be killed
[7:50]it means brothers and sisters these this group this group had two
[7:55]attributes one they had conviction ition in Allah subhanahu waala they had
[8:03]conviction to sacrifice themselves for the pleasure of Allah and for the
[8:09]IM with full conviction and recognition as he [Music] said when they
[8:19]sacrifice for the IM please the IM they're pleasing who Allah subhah
[8:24]that's one thing but did that just come out of vanity that
[8:32]preparation that conviction came out of vanity no he's been working he's
[8:45]been working for years to prepare himself for this moment these companions
[8:50]those 72 give or take plus the 18 of did not just
[8:57]come out of vanity from vacuum all of the sudden and they
[9:00]jumped with the IM there was some training some preparation in advance
[9:08]even even those who switch sides in the day of like there
[9:15]were some prior issues and events that happened that prepared them for
[9:21]this day it didn't just happen out of vanity we want inshallah
[9:24]to be one of those people we read in the Z then
[9:33]what I wish I was with you to win to have this
[9:39]great Victory brothers and sisters we don't want these just to be
[9:41]words that we utter and then we turn our face and then
[9:45]Kal we do whatever we want it means we have to do
[9:50]some preparation there is some preparation that we need to engage with
[9:54]and therefore tonight if Allah gives us we will discuss a self
[10:01]and self discipline our discussion tonight will be in three points the
[10:08]first point is what is the NS when we say the self
[10:12]what is it what is the ne that's one second why is
[10:18]it important to discipline the self and third how can we discipline
[10:21]ourselves these are three discussions inshallah tonight first what is the NS
[10:30]the human being brothers and sisters apparently has three aspects to him
[10:36]this is from the Islamic perspective there is the physical materialistic aspect
[10:41]the body then we have the r the soul and then there
[10:50]is the nefs okay the JM the body is physical anything that's
[10:55]physical materialistic anything that's confined in time and space is a cre
[11:00]creation of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala that goes through stages of development
[11:05]progression for example when the when a human being is born is
[11:09]he born as an adult no he's born as a child a
[11:13]baby slowly he goes through stages of development until he reaches adulthood
[11:18]and then even that continues until he reaches for example old age
[11:22]we're constantly changing progressing and it takes time A tree doesn't become
[11:29]a tree overnight you put a seed and over time it grows
[11:34]slowly to become a tree so when it comes to Creation it
[11:39]takes time it's a process and Allah refers to this he says
[11:43]that he created he created the skies the heavens and the Earth
[11:54]in six stages a here means stages six stages so cre creation
[12:00]takes time it takes stages progression that's soul and navs apparently they
[12:11]are a different kind of creation they do not go through stages
[12:15]they are just created from the beginning it is created as a
[12:21]it does not grow the NS is created as a NS it
[12:26]does not grow that's it it's created Allah says the Quran he
[12:34]says what is am command what is the command so when it's
[12:45]a matter of command of Allah it happens our Command happens instantaneously
[13:07]what it is of the command it's not it's a creation of
[13:12]Allah but it does not go through the process of progression it's
[13:15]created instantaneously that's the same thing with the he made it Allah
[13:29]makes the NS so then what is the difference between and the
[13:32]Quran has several definitions of I don't have time to go through
[13:38]all all of them today but very briefly I will touch upon
[13:40]it R refers to life life but life comes in different forms
[13:48]for example you have the materialistic life the life I'm going to
[13:58]create a human being from clay when I make him and I
[14:10]blow of my soul my soul Allah doesn't have a soul by
[14:13]the way what is my soul here means the soul of life
[14:18]one of the attributes of Allah is the living means ever living
[14:27]Allah gives that life that part you know attribute to the human
[14:30]being and giving him a life that's what it means otherwise Allah
[14:32]does not have a life a soul sorry a soul like you
[14:36]and I do he is ever existing Eternal he's ever living not
[14:42]like you and I we were non-existence and then we came into
[14:45]existence so when I give him the r then you do to
[14:50]him that is referring to Adam so the r the self is
[14:57]of the command of Allah and they were both created instantaneously unlike
[15:02]the body and the other creations of Allah that are materialistic they
[15:06]take time to progress and form refers to life life could be
[15:13]in the physical sense life could be in the spiritual sense spiritual
[15:17]sense Allah says we supported through the spirit or the soul of
[15:29]of guidance that's the guides Isa and the Allah guides their Allah
[15:38]guides them through his soul what is that Soul Allah subhana T
[15:45]sends some guidance to the the Believers Allah guides them what so
[15:52]life generally speaking from the Quran although it has different perspective Ives
[16:00]but the essential meaning is the soul is Life Soul gives life
[16:07]brings life nafs however nafs has Dimensions nafs is what connects the
[16:15]human being Between Heaven and the Earth and therefore it has facets
[16:22]it has Dimensions Allah subhana wa ta'ala refers to three facets in
[16:29]the Quran explicitly of the nafs one facet [Music] is there is
[16:44]an evil commanding self it commands evil you know sometimes maybe you've
[16:49]seen some cartoons in some cartoons when a person wants to do
[16:53]something bad you'll hear two two voices you know you'll see two
[17:00]two figure is coming up one that tells him don't do it
[17:01]this is bad and usually they have kind of a ring on
[17:06]top of that person you know and then the other person says
[17:10]no do it do it do the bad thing you see the
[17:12]those two voices in in essence there is such a thing there
[17:17]is these Whispers there is these Whispers of the self of the
[17:24]Naps The nafs Whispers this is different from Shan don't confuse it
[17:28]with Shan that's your yourself what do I mean by this think
[17:31]about it brothers and sisters when Allah created Adam refused to do
[17:36]suud to Adam correct now we we the humans sometimes when we
[17:42]do something bad we say oh he tempted me the Shan tempted
[17:48]me to do this bad thing right who was there to tempt
[17:52]himself why did refuse to do sujud to Adam he himself himself
[18:02]refused to do sujud to Adam his evil commanding self refused to
[18:08]do sujud to Adam that's what made him fail in the test
[18:10]we also have that kind of Dimension that evil commanding San is
[18:16]weak when you are strong cannot have much power over you all
[18:24]thatan does comes and knocks the door you open the door who
[18:31]opens the door if you don't open the door then he can't
[18:34]do much the analogy some of the give is like a garbage
[18:40]garbage with a tight lid on it as long as the lid
[18:45]is tight you don't see any flies roaming around it because they
[18:49]cannot smell anything the minute you open the lid and they can
[18:52]smell it now now what happens all the Flies start hovering around
[18:58]it that's how it is your as long as you have it
[19:04]tightly controlled Shan cannot come around you the the god conscious people
[19:17]Shan comes and roams around them he goes around them he cannot
[19:23]go into them he goes around but they immediately remember Allah subhana
[19:28]wa ta'ala and hence he has no power you see that that's
[19:33]the evil commanding self it command us to do evil to do
[19:42]bad things to disobey Allah to forget about Allah that's the second
[19:48]one is what is this is what people refer to as your
[19:59]conscious have you ever well you are all inshallah you know alhamdulillah
[20:07]we're all mine here but if somebody has ever done something that
[20:10]he was not supposed to do do you ever remember feeling guilty
[20:13]immediately you feel guilty immediately you feel guilty when someone does something
[20:19]that he should not have done something that he disobeys Allah subhana
[20:23]tala disobeys one's parents that guilt feeling what where does that come
[20:28]from that's a mechanism Allah has put into the human being to
[20:31]put him back on the it's your guilt your conscience tells you
[20:38]why did you do this why this is wrong it's do so
[20:44]it reminds us to say to repent that's a and interestingly Allah
[20:56]says what's relationship between the day of judgment and the conscious what
[21:05]that makes you feel guilty some of the say they both are
[21:09]places of judgment they both are places on the day of judgment
[21:13]we'll be judged day of judgment you'll be judged and your conscience
[21:19]also judges you and hence it makes you feel guilty that's why
[21:22]that's a relationship the connection between the two ay that's your second
[21:32]one it's your conscience it's your guilt feeling that reminds you to
[21:37]go back to the to go back to doing the right thing
[21:41]the third one is what is this this is the one that's
[21:58]always in the Obedience of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala it always obeys
[22:03]Allah it has trained itself and disciplined itself to always listen to
[22:09]Allah not to listen to its desires and therefore the of say
[22:14]there are three driving forces for the human being some say four
[22:22]but some say three the first one is desire your desire why
[22:25]do you eat because you have a desire to eat why do
[22:29]you sleep because you have a desire to sleep why do people
[22:34]have children for example they have a desire to see children and
[22:37]to have many children and to see grandchildren and so on so
[22:42]forth that's a desire that's a Shah second anger anger is the
[22:48]second driving force why do people fight in battles and Wars because
[22:52]they get angry anger is a good thing as long as it's
[22:54]controlled if it's not controlled it can create disaster Master that's anger
[23:01]the third one is your intellect your intellect is the reason why
[23:10]we do certain things in The Obedience of Allah for example these
[23:14]days is early in the morning it's about 3:30 in the morning
[23:19]let's say you set your alarm at 3:30 the alarm goes off
[23:23]you wake up your desire tells you you're crazy I'm tired I
[23:30]want to sleep go back to sleep snooze hit the snooze button
[23:33]that's what your desire tells you your however tells you what get
[23:40]up I want to pray to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala I will
[23:45]get up and I'll pray to Allah now here you're having a
[23:48]battle between those two there's a battle now taking place the good
[23:51]and the bad the good guy the good cop and the bad
[23:55]cop as they say who will prevail will will you get up
[24:00]and pray your Salat or will you succumb and submit to your
[24:04]desire who will prevail that's what tells us whether or not we
[24:09]are ready we're preparing ourself that's the thing the same question happens
[24:15]to us on a daily basis multiple times a person asks you
[24:24]a question you are now thinking should I answer him honestly or
[24:27]should I lie if I lie I will be saved but if
[24:32]I answer honestly I might be consequence what am I going to
[24:34]do yourself your desire says lie save yourself but your says no
[24:42]don't lie say the truth speak the truth it's better to be
[24:47]truthful of course under certain circumstances we're not talking about here where
[24:52]your life is on the guillotine for example and so on so
[24:55]forth that's a separate story we're talking about General C circumstances somebody
[25:00]says a word to you that angers you many people what do
[25:04]they respond they erupt like a man a volcano in their faces
[25:09]you say one word to me I'll say 10 words back to
[25:14]you unfortunately isn't that how many of our divorces happen unfortunately many
[25:19]cases when people come to me for divorce it is this problem
[25:22]he says the wife said this and then the husband said that
[25:27]and then the wife comes back and then the goes back and
[25:28]so on so forth until it escalates to the point where there
[25:34]is no reconciliation again whereas when that word is being said at
[25:39]you if you hold back and say wait let me think here
[25:44]what should I say should I answer back angerly or should I
[25:47]hold back and calm that's what your is now working your intellect
[25:54]tells you hold back wait wait wait don't respond instantaneously wait they
[25:59]in fact in fact in Psychology they call it the 10 seconds
[26:04]rule they call it the 10 seconds rule that's what psychologists refer
[26:07]to as they say when you get angry don't respond instantaneously wait
[26:12]wait for 10 seconds and then answer Subhan Allah this is what
[26:17]psychologists today say that's what said 1400 years ago one day IM
[26:26]Ali was walking withar his servant a man said an insult an
[26:30]insulting word to Kar his servant Kar became angry he wanted to
[26:38]respond back IMI said wait don't answer wait he is trying to
[26:44]provoke you the best respon for him is no response ignore him
[26:50]ignore him and that will infuriate him even more or it will
[26:56]just calm him down and he'll come and apologize he says a
[27:11]bad word to you you just calm down you say for example
[27:18]you just calm down don't respond that will take if he has
[27:25]some wisdom in his brain he will come and apologize he says
[27:28]I'm sorry about what I said earlier he will apologize to you
[27:32]so you can control the whole situation A man comes to Al
[27:38]IM and he calls him his name is he calls him IM
[27:47]looks at him he says I'm not what you're calling me he
[27:55]says I am means the one who's well versed in knowledge he
[28:01]really ripped knowledge apart split knowledge that's how knowledgeable he is he
[28:06]called then he insulted the im's mother he insulted the im's mother
[28:14]now sometimes people will have tolerance for themselves but the mother that's
[28:20]too much IM looks at him and says if she was as
[28:23]you say as you claim may Allah forgive her but if she's
[28:28]not as what you claim then may Allah forgive you this man
[28:38]then came and apologized and kissed the im's hand when he saw
[28:43]his great his great maners and he said God knows whom he
[28:51]chooses to carry his message you see that Spirit brothers and sisters
[28:55]that's when you use your so what are the driving forces the
[29:01]driving forces are the intellect the desire and the anger these are
[29:04]most of the human there is a fourth Force I'll mention it
[29:08]briefly they say it is the imagination Force the force of imagination
[29:11]but that one is more of a hindering Force as opposed to
[29:17]a driving force what does that mean imagination I don't know if
[29:22]it's ever happened to you guys sometimes you walk you decide to
[29:25]take a walk in at night you say let me go for
[29:29]a walk at night then you walk it's a bit dark out
[29:32]there and you look back and it's like I don't know if
[29:34]there's something behind me someone is coming after me you start looking
[29:36]behind you start you know Wonder there's nothing behind you you're just
[29:39]imagining so sometimes you'll be like you know and then you start
[29:46]running someone ask you why are you running says I think there's
[29:48]something be you're imagining there is not there this is not desire
[29:50]this is not anger this is not intellect this is Imagination so
[29:55]sometimes that imagination but it is more of a hindering Force as
[30:00]opposed to a driving force nonetheless it is also there as well
[30:03]so these are some of the forces so now we understand inshallah
[30:07]a basic understanding of what is the nafs the nafs is a
[30:14]creation of Allah subhana wa taala that was created instantaneously without going
[30:19]through processes of progression and development like the body same thing as
[30:24]the r r was also created instantaneously but the Naps is different
[30:31]from the r naps has facets the self has facets there is
[30:34]the facet that drives us to disobey Allah there is the facet
[30:40]that makes us feel guilty and brings us back to the track
[30:42]of obedience and there is the facet where the intellect is always
[30:45]in charge and it guides you to the so far so good
[30:52]inshallah all that is good so this is the navs Allah subhah
[30:58]wa ta'ala also reveals to to the Allah gave it it gave
[31:05]it some kind of power of understanding recognition it knows what is
[31:13]good and what is bad that's why when somebody lies regardless of
[31:16]whether he's a mmin or not a mmin he'll feel bad he
[31:22]knows this is lying when somebody is unfair unjust oppresses somebody else
[31:27]he knows he's oppressor oppressive and it's not it's not a good
[31:32]thing no Tyrant no tyrant in history calls himself a tyrant have
[31:37]you seen all the dictators in the world nobody will say I'm
[31:41]a dictator they all say they all give justification say no I'm
[31:44]a just person when he in the deep inside knows he's a
[31:46]dictator but they don't why because it's not good to call himself
[31:52]a dictator he knows this inherently he knows it's bad to oppress
[31:56]people to lie to people to cheat people to deceive all these
[32:01]are [Applause] standards successful is the one who purifies himself himself and
[32:18]a wicked a loser is the one who makes it Wicked always
[32:22]follows his desire that takes us to the next Point why is
[32:28]it important then to take care of ourself and discipline ourself because
[32:42]successful is he the one who disciplines himself in The Obedience of
[32:51]Allah and a loser is he who does not discipline himself by
[32:56]the way brother and sisters interestingly discipline self-discipline is something that is
[33:04]praised even in Psychology today psychologists today they talk about self-discipline in
[33:11]a very positive way for example one of the psychologists her name
[33:20]is Denise fornier Denise fornier published an article in Psychology today in
[33:31]January of this year she says why Discipline matters and five ways
[33:34]to work on it yeah Discipline matters she says if you're looking
[33:41]to for ways to become more successful improve your relationships or feel
[33:47]more satisfied with your life and so on so forth what do
[33:50]you have to do discipline yourself you want to be successful you
[33:53]have to discipline yourself you want to have more satisfaction with your
[33:59]life you got to discipline yourself so it's important to have self-discipline
[34:05]for Success another psychologist her name is Davis Dr Davis she says
[34:09]she defines or she quotes a professor by the name of Angela
[34:13]Duckworth who says the ability to suppress prepotent responses in the service
[34:21]of a higher goal that's what discipline is you discipline you suppress
[34:26]pre potent responses in the service of a higher goal yeah you
[34:33]want to achieve a higher goal in life you got to have
[34:36]some disciplin and such a choice is not automatic but rather requires
[34:44]conscious effort you have to train yourself to become disciplined he's prep
[34:58]prepared himself yeah you got to prepare yourself the IM is pointing
[35:04]to this what this psychologist and mentioning in 2023 IM Hussein mentioned
[35:10]it 1400 years ago you want to be with us you have
[35:14]to have discipline and to have discipline you have to put in
[35:17]effort you got to be conscious yeah you have to prepare yourself
[35:20]why is that important discipline because it gives you success in D
[35:24]it gives you success like they say the psych olist are saying
[35:29]you want to have success in you have to have some discipline
[35:31]you talk to many students for example you tell them do you
[35:37]like to study most of them would say no most students would
[35:40]say I don't like to study but the successful students what do
[35:49]they do they discipline themselves to study they teach themselves they train
[35:52]themselves to stud because they know that studying is important and that
[35:55]would lead me to success you cannot attain High degrees without much
[36:02]effort you can't just sit back and succeed so you have to
[36:09]put in discipline for us as followers of success is not just
[36:14]in the materialistic context in this worldly context but also in what
[36:20]in the Hereafter Allah says the human will not attain but what
[36:26]he Liv for and he will see the fruit of his effort
[36:32]you want to put effort in you will see your fruit you
[36:37]will put your effort in the you will see the fruit plus
[36:43]brothers and sisters people who do not discipline themselves people who do
[36:48]not discipline themselves it could lead to miserable consequences miserable conse consequences
[37:00]one day zi zi was mu's governor on kuf he comes to
[37:12]the Masjid to pray in MJ kuf one person takes a pebble
[37:15]a pebble and he throws it at him when the pebble hits
[37:23]him what does he do zi the governor of mua on kufa
[37:28]he tells his guards shut down the doors of Masjid Alfa close
[37:32]the doors they Clos the doors he said everyone who's in the
[37:35]Masjid cut off their hands everyone now one person was the person
[37:41]who threw it he punished everybody he punished everybody a similar incident
[37:52]brothers and sisters a similar incident happened to Malik IM Ali's Comm
[37:58]Commander when when he was the commander of IM Ali's Army when
[38:01]he was the commander today you call him the Minister of Defense
[38:06]a minister of defense he's walking on the streets of kufa a
[38:10]person who does not recognize him a person who used to have
[38:16]a date shop he was he ate one of the dates and
[38:18]he took the pit and he wanted to have fun so he
[38:22]threw it at Malik it hit Malik as Malik did not even
[38:27]turned his face to see who hit him he continued walking this
[38:31]person's neighbor his neighbor he told him what did you just do
[38:35]do you know who you just hit he said no I'm just
[38:37]having fun who is he he said this is Malik IM Ali's
[38:42]commander who did you mess with this guy if he takes his
[38:47]sword he'll kill you he said my goodness what have I done
[38:50]so he ran after Malik searching for him he finds him in
[38:55]M kuf praying so he stands there when he finished his Sal
[38:57]he comes to him and says Malik I'm sorry I apologize I
[39:02]did not recognize you it was a mistake please forgive me blah
[39:05]blah blah Malik looks at him and says you know I was
[39:10]not planning to come to masj kuf I had something to do
[39:15]but when someone hit me with the pit of the date I
[39:16]did not even want to see who it was I came to
[39:24]to pray to ask Allah to forgive the person who hit Meb
[39:36]not only did I forgive you I wanted Allah to forgive you
[39:41]this is a student of IM Ali this is not IM Ali
[39:47]a student of IM Ali Malik was not a he was like
[39:51]you and I how did he manage to discipline himself to that
[39:54]level you see that self- discipline when person does not have such
[40:00]discipline he can become like Z killing and killing and killing millions
[40:08]of people those tyrants we see in the world today how do
[40:12]they become tyrants because there's no discipline they just want to do
[40:15]whatever their desire wishes for they want power that person who came
[40:21]to the White House and took millions and billions of dollars I
[40:25]remember I was reading that person in the white house if you
[40:29]remember the one who used to say a lot of false things
[40:33]and he used to go golfing it is said that his golfing
[40:38]I remember in the last year when he was in office few
[40:40]years ago the last year I read in the New York Times
[40:45]it is said his golfing his golfing cost taxpayers $100 million taxpayers
[40:53]paid $100 million for him to go golfing even though he's a
[41:02]billionaire why doesn't he pay for him for his golfing 100 billion
[41:06]how many poor people could have been fed in the US leave
[41:09]alone other countries in the United States they say 33% of people
[41:16]in the US live under the poverty line yeah they don't have
[41:22]food for their dinner one in six children in the United States
[41:26]out hung one and six in the US well and you have
[41:33]a president who spends $100 million on Gulf you see that when
[41:37]there is no limit on the desire that's what some of the
[41:40]consequences you'll have whereas IM what does he say he says I
[41:53]tame myself with God consciousness so it's important to discipline oneself because
[42:03]it will attain success in and in the and it will be
[42:06]good for the society at large when people are disciplined people will
[42:14]have more tolerance more respect more kindness more compassion when they have
[42:17]that kind of discipline that's why it's important to have self-discipline third
[42:22]and we'll touch upon this quickly inshallah how can we introduce self-discipline
[42:32]to ourselves here brothers and sisters I want to give you an
[42:39]analogy an example let's say they take a healthy person a healthy
[42:43]person who's never trained he's not an athletic person they take him
[42:47]and they tell him we want you to run a 10k race
[42:55]10K now now first of all he'll say why why would you
[43:01]I want to run the 10K the first step is you got
[43:05]to convince him why he has to run the 10K so you
[43:07]got to give him the incentives for example you can say if
[43:10]you win the race you can win for example $20,000 like oh
[43:16]$20,000 to run a 10k race that's a good incentive now he
[43:21]accepts the reason why he should run the race before that he
[43:27]would have never run the race without him being convinced as to
[43:31]why it's important to run the race he would not run so
[43:35]the first step is to do what to convince the person you
[43:39]got to convince him a person for example is put in a
[43:45]prison God forbid he's put in a prison and he faces difficult
[43:49]times in the prison but they tell him listen you run a
[43:52]10k race in one hour we'll free you what's he gonna do
[43:58]yeah I'm ready let me go do it so the first step
[44:05]is the conviction you have to convince the individual why it's important
[44:08]to run the race whether it is to earn your freedom whether
[44:12]it is to win $20,000 whether it is for example publicity whatever
[44:15]it is that's the first step Second Step the person psychologically has
[44:25]to tell himself I am able to do this because if he
[44:28]tells himself oh no way if he becomes a quitter what's going
[44:33]to happen he's not going to do it so psychologically he has
[44:36]to tell himself that I am able to run this race that's
[44:40]a second step third brothers and sisters if you take him and
[44:43]you dump him on the race and you tell him run the
[44:46]10K will he be able to do it immediately from day one
[44:51]what does he have to do train train train and there will
[44:55]be times when he will say you know this is hard but
[44:57]the discipline part no no I can do it I can do
[45:02]it he will continue then what does he have to do somebody
[45:05]has to time him and he has to monitor the first day
[45:10]he runs for example it takes him for example 3 hours to
[45:14]run 10K then he says well what do I have to do
[45:16]a little bit more training more training and he continues then he
[45:20]they time him okay now you're down to two hours good you're
[45:23]achieving your goal of 1 hour for example so that is the
[45:27]persistence and the monitoring similarly to change brothers and sisters the scholars
[45:34]of and ethics they say there are requirements the first is the
[45:38]conviction for the need to change you have to tell yourself I
[45:43]want to be among the companions of imin or he comes and
[45:51]knocks on my door don't we always say oh Allah make us
[45:59]among his companions help us to be with him okay he comes
[46:02]tomorrow and he says come with me we don't want to be
[46:06]like those people who say oh I have a mortgage I have
[46:07]family I have things I can't come with you I'm sorry I'm
[46:11]sorry uh we don't want to do be like we want to
[46:14]go it means we have to train ourselves so we have to
[46:19]change second we have to tell ourselves that we are able that's
[46:22]what the say it means you determine to yourself psychologically this is
[46:30]what they call positive thinking positively you think about this to yourself
[46:36]there is a scholar he's a professor of philosophy he says that
[46:41]his name is Dr tomasulo Dr tomasulo at Columbia University how can
[46:50]psychological Capital strengthen your mind in an article he published of February
[46:54]of this year psychological Capital what does that mean he says you
[46:59]think to yourself you tell yourself I can do it I can
[47:04]do this and I will do it there is a from along
[47:07]these lines which says whatever you determine to do you will do
[47:14]it you'll do it there is a blind man a blind man
[47:19]who climbed Mount Everest blind man he climbed Mount Everest he made
[47:23]it all the way to the top how did he do it
[47:25]he had the determination yeah had the deter he said I can
[47:29]do it and he did it so that's the determination to change
[47:35]second You observe yourself you monitor yourself how well am I doing
[47:42]how well am I doing third is you have to be consistent
[47:49]consistent so brothers and sisters good ways to change are holding on
[48:02]to theat whatever is W do it your Salat today if you
[48:06]if we ask ourselves a question all of us today how many
[48:11]of us prayed all our Salat on time and or did we
[48:17]delay it today what about yesterday when we prayed our Salah today
[48:21]do you remember were you concentrating in the Salat or you did
[48:26]not even know what you were praying that's the discipline that we
[48:30]need to add to ourselves so hold on to the what's hold
[48:36]on to it second do the the must the must what is
[48:48]if you can tonight after there's a called try to pray if
[48:57]you can night pray you can pray it after you don't have
[49:00]to wait until or before after try to do these the and
[49:11]the we have a from that says this from from Allah a
[49:36]servant does not come closer to me than what something that I
[49:42]have obligated upon him and I love to see him doing the
[49:47]obligations fasting hij Sal these areat do them Allah says I love
[49:56]that what else what he gets closer even to me through the
[50:04]recommend actions not the waj the recommendations until I love him then
[50:10]when I love him I become the ears with which he hears
[50:16]the eyes with which he sees the tongue with which he speaks
[50:21]and whatever he calls me for I will give him and you
[50:27]want your duas to be accepted Allah to love you you can
[50:33]do it it just requires practice practice and practice to discipline ourselves
[50:37]we need to start with theat refrain from the and try to
[50:43]do as much of the as possible when we forget do say
[50:51]such a way inshallah will be among the companions of Al IM
[50:56]Al Hussein self [Music] discipline on the second day of muharam like
[51:04]tomorrow IM Hussein arrives inala after having met he arrives inala with
[51:18]some of his companions and family members they arrive he tells the
[51:25]people what is the name of this land they give him some
[51:28]different names they tell him it's called na he says does it
[51:33]have another name they say another name they tell him he said
[51:45]oh Allah we seek refuge in you from calamities and difficulties he
[51:51]turns to his family members and his companions and he says this
[52:00]is where the place we will be residing for now and this
[52:04]is where our blood will be shed this is the place we've
[52:07]arrived then he turns to he says set up the tents set
[52:18]up the tents so that the women and the children can go
[52:22]into their tents am gets off and he starts setting up the
[52:29]tents for the women and the children upon setting up all these
[52:36]tents he then comes to the women and the children one after
[52:38]the other especially those from banii Hashim and he starts helping them
[52:43]to get into their tents and he came to Z and he
[52:51]helped her as well to Dismount from her camel and with utmost
[52:58]dignity and respect he took her inside her tent and he remained
[53:03]with them looking after them guarding them until the day of Ash
[53:14]when they started burning the tents the enemies of Allah Z started
[53:25]crying [Music] [Music] mamed [Music] [Applause] you were the one who took
[54:14]care of me from Medina when we arrived in carala you were
[54:20]the one who set up my tent you were the one who
[54:25]dismounted me from my camel you looked after me oh brother Abbas
[54:30]today I have no one to help me our tents Are Up
[54:35]In [Applause] Flames the women and the children all came to [Applause]
[54:46][Music] crying [Music] oh [Music] for [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] for [Music]
[56:39][Applause] [Music] for [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Laughter] [Music] for [Music] raise your
[57:38]hands in the Dua brothers and sisters may Allah subhanahu wa accept
[57:43]our Dua fulfill our [Music] [Music] 10 times together Ya Allah Allah
[58:29]Allah Allah Allah Allah Allah Allah [Music] Allah [Music] [Music] for [Music]
