[0:00]audhu billahi min ash-shaytani r-rajim bismillahi rahmani rahim alhamdu lillahi rabbil alameen
[0:07]what's a lot of assalaam o allah sayyidina wallah demon our Habiba
[0:13]can open our shafi on a full sinner I bill car see
[0:20]me Mohammed a la nube de touhina toe arena Massimino saw the
[0:26]king I'm about them if I can have one favor someone could
[0:32]just turn the microphone down just a little bit because I don't
[0:35]want to scare anyone I get a little loud and excited when
[0:41]we're talking about our Prophet Muhammad Saleh wats a las vanuatu Allah
[0:50]says in the glorious quran bismillahir rahmanir raheem la cara con and
[0:57]the confit Rasool Allah he and sweatin sana sana colossal Galilee lavigne
[1:02]certainly in Rasulullah you have the most excellent of examples I was
[1:10]asked to speak about we have made you a moderate nation and
[1:17]before I begin I want to give you the synopsis that I
[1:22]was giving so that it will give a nice understanding of what
[1:24]it is and why it is that I'm going to approach the
[1:27]subject in the way that I'm going to approach it the synopsis
[1:32]that I was given was we have made you a moderate nation
[1:36]so that you will be witnesses over the people and the messenger
[1:44]will be a witness over you our faith is steeped in a
[1:47]long tradition of seeking balance and moderation in all aspects of life
[1:50]this lecture is intended to explore the qualities of balance and moderation
[1:54]as they are found in the person of the blessin jur and
[2:00]how those lessons can be applied in modern times the religion of
[2:05]Islam is a religion of moderation and what is meant by moderation
[2:14]is that we have a balance between excessiveness and negligence this also
[2:19]includes the fact that as Muslims we are prohibited from going to
[2:24]extremes we must prohibit aggressions oppression extravagance or harshness in this instance
[2:34]when we are talking about moderation we're actually going to discuss the
[2:40]treats of rasulullah sallallahu alayhi whining or something our prophet was and
[2:52]is the most balanced and moderate individual that has ever walked the
[2:59]face of this earth now I love the fact of how it
[3:05]is they put this verse in that we have made you a
[3:08]middling or moderate nation the question becomes why was this verse revealed
[3:15]what's the backdrop of this verse I can give you what I
[3:21]feel that I should give you about us being a moderate nation
[3:26]but when we understand why this verse was actually revealed to Rasulullah
[3:30]then we get an understanding the widest we are middle a nation
[3:34]this verse was revealed after allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala had changed the qibla
[3:42]our direction of prayer from Jerusalem to Mecca when this occurred this
[3:48]was a happy time for our prophet but to have the prophet
[3:56]face towards Jerusalem was a test for our profit in this test
[4:00]lasted for over 13 years while the Prophet was in Mecca those
[4:05]who follow the Prophet they said ok profit you told us to
[4:10]turn towards the ruling them to pray there's no problem for us
[4:13]in doing it but when the Prophet made his Hydra to medina
[4:20]to a place where you had a very large Jewish population it
[4:24]became problematic for the Muslims why did he become problematic for the
[4:29]Muslims it became problematic because the Jews began to ridicule our prophet
[4:33]and him turning towards dead Kibler to pray they began to say
[4:41]to our prophet that what you're bringing is something false because you
[4:47]don't have your own direction the believers who are around at this
[4:51]time they also heard the Jews saying these things about our prophet
[4:56]and the faith of our prophet our prophet was steadfast he didn't
[5:02]worry about what the Jews were saying but the Quran says he
[5:08]would frequently look into the sky he would look towards a loss
[5:11]of hano otago why because the commentators of this verse that says
[5:15]know that our prophet always knew that the directions for prayer for
[5:22]the Muslims would be towards Mecca and not Jerusalem but he had
[5:26]to have patience until the loss of Hannah wat Allah allow this
[5:30]change to occur after this 13 years our prophet could have done
[5:41]a multitude of things our prophet could have become upset and began
[5:44]a war with the Jews because he didn't like what they said
[5:47]this would be extreme and it would be wrong our prophet could
[5:55]have stopped praying all together or he could have accepted the religion
[5:58]of the Jews because they said that it was right this would
[6:01]have been negligent our prophet took the middle role in this situation
[6:05]he continued to believe in Allah subhana Allah and go the cost
[6:11]at a loss vanuatu Allah had already set for him and because
[6:14]of this and he showed us how it was that we were
[6:19]supposed to deal with adversity he was on the middle road and
[6:22]if we follow his example we too will be in or on
[6:29]the middle road our prophet show the individuals how to do this
[6:39]they were watching but other people were also watching because our prophet
[6:45]was steadfast a las vanuatu Allah rewarded him by changing the Qibla
[6:49]but when he changed the Qibla something else happened now the part
[6:54]of the verse that I'm going to talk about now was a
[6:57]part of the verse that wasn't given in the synopsis but I
[7:00]also believe that it's important for us to understand how it is
[7:02]our prophet showed us how to be on the middle role the
[7:08]verse says it continues that says and we did not make that
[7:14]which you would have to be the Qibla but that we might
[7:17]distinguish him who follows the messenger from him who turns back on
[7:25]his hills and this was surely hard except for those whom Allah
[7:28]subhana Allah has gotten a right and Allah was not going to
[7:31]make your faith to be fruitless well surely Allah is affectionate merciful
[7:39]to the people in this verse at the end of it it
[7:42]brings the believers into focus the Jews have already been dealt with
[7:48]but a loss of her know what Allah tells us that even
[7:53]when the Qibla was changed that it was going to be a
[7:57]test for those people who said that they were going to be
[7:58]with the Prophet it is a test for those of us who
[8:03]are living today because there are many of the traits that the
[8:04]prophet has there are many of the traditions that the prophet has
[8:09]that we don't agree with and because we don't agree with it
[8:13]we remove ourselves from being the middle and people we go to
[8:19]the extreme and anytime we go against Allah his rasool the Quran
[8:23]and the debate we all become extremists or some form or another
[8:28]the end of the verse lets us know that those who are
[8:36]with the Prophet they witnessed everything that the Prophet went through and
[8:40]it was a test and i'll promptly concrete that test and he
[8:43]let us know the b2 and conquer the test a lot fun
[8:47]or thailand lets us know about our prophet that it's very important
[8:50]in this situation that he was a man and he was a
[8:56]man in every way he was not a god he was not
[9:00]a son of a god that the things that we fear the
[9:04]things that we go through our prophet would also go through him
[9:07]and because he went through them first and we were witnesses to
[9:10]the things that he went through we should know that we can
[9:16]conquer the things that he conquered we find that our off it
[9:19]just to show that he was really a man think about his
[9:23]birth and think about the hardships that he went through before he
[9:28]was born his father died in his development his early childhood development
[9:34]when he was beginning to learn how to have attachments to people
[9:38]when he was beginning to have trust in people the people who
[9:46]he trusted his mother and his grandfather also died he could have
[9:51]been extreme as an orphan and just said I'm not going to
[9:57]do anything with my life how many of us started our lives
[10:00]in such extreme circumstances if the Prophet lived in our times and
[10:08]he was born under these same circumstances we will find our prophet
[10:15]somewhere receiving some type of therapy because how do you lose your
[10:20]mother how do you lose your father and still get along to
[10:22]be great no one would predict that after living those circumstances that
[10:31]our prophet would be destined for greatness but lots of hannah wattala
[10:36]plans and his plan is better than ours our prophet let us
[10:40]know that regardless of what your situations are what your surroundings are
[10:45]that if you have faith in allah subhan allah tala that he
[10:50]will sing you through whatever you need to get through for those
[10:55]of us who think our prophet had it easy there's a beautiful
[11:01]verse in the Quran that we read and we hear it a
[11:03]lot but do we apply it to our prophet the verse says
[11:08]and this is an sort of baccarat and we surely and we
[11:14]will surely touch you with something of fear and hunger and loss
[11:19]of property and lives but glyph glad tidings to the steadfast patient
[11:24]ones who want a calamity befalls them they say surely we belong
[11:30]to Allah until law is our return our profit was not exempt
[11:35]from this and sort of doha a lots of Hunter what Allah
[11:40]says did we not find you an orphan and give you shelter
[11:43]and give you care as an orphan as a eight-year-old child if
[11:51]your parents have died and they left you alone would you feel
[11:56]there's so many different theories you would have the next person that
[12:01]is given authority over me who will take care of me are
[12:06]they also going to die and my destined to be in this
[12:12]world all by myself these are fears our prophet had this fear
[12:15]but a lots of Hannah wat dollar strengthened him through a batala
[12:21]not only that he strengthened him but he protected him when the
[12:28]people of courtiers had come to our prophet to try to overtake
[12:36]him to try to snuff out the message of Islam it was
[12:38]Abu Talib who stood in their way and made sure that nothing
[12:44]would happen to our profit while profit was growing up learning but
[12:48]was right and learning but was wrong it was a batalha who
[12:54]was there to help him out instead of him saying I am
[12:56]going to just dwell on the bad things that happened in my
[13:02]life I'm going to trust in allah subhan allah tala when abu
[13:07]talib died our prophet may I felt a little alone but a
[13:13]loss of her no atala he strengthened his back with the son
[13:19]of Abu Talib Ali it may not be at all over lace
[13:20]a lot or salam so again our profit does not exempt from
[13:31]the things that we deal with he's going through him and he's
[13:36]shown us the way to make it through the last one what
[13:42]Allah in the same verse he talks about people being hungry and
[13:45]people haven't loss of property answer do ha a lots Manawatu allah
[13:50]mentions that he made the Prophet independent he was once dependent and
[13:57]he made them independent now we realized that a law did make
[14:03]rasoolallah independence so that he wouldn't have to rely on anything but
[14:08]the Islamic community was dependent the Islamic community needed a benefactor the
[14:13]benefactor that we all had as Muslims came from BB Khadijah and
[14:21]because her property and the prophets property was all together they lost
[14:27]their property and BB Khadijah it is said that she died because
[14:31]she was malnourished all the Muslims at that particular point in time
[14:36]they experienced hunger again our prophet just like us he lost everything
[14:46]there be Muslims who lose their homes who lose their businesses who
[14:53]will lose their investments and many of the people who lose those
[14:56]things they say I'm going to walk away from Islam but if
[15:00]you walk away from Islam you are not following the example of
[15:04]the Prophet because he lost everything yet he did not walk away
[15:07]which would be extreme he did not stop preaching its long which
[15:14]would have been extreme but he held horn and he was steadfast
[15:17]and a loss of hundred other rewarded him for that last one
[15:25]of what Allah tells us again in this verse that you will
[15:29]be tested with loss of lives our prophet lost so many lives
[15:34]as we lose lives and what we find was our profit is
[15:41]in one year he lost the man who raised him and he
[15:48]also lost the love of his life his wife the prophet called
[15:52]this time in his life the year of sorrow because how do
[15:59]you go through that what would can we even begin to enumerate
[16:03]or put a value on the benefits that we received from both
[16:16]BB Khadijah and from Abu Talib as Muslims we can but our
[16:20]prophet he dealt with this but it increased his faith he was
[16:27]balanced he did not let this thing sway him for one side
[16:29]to the other when people moves their wives when they lose their
[16:36]loved ones some of them also lose their religions there's nothing like
[16:44]fortitude that helps to build patients and our Prophet had more hardships
[16:50]than anyone else so he had great for the tools our prophet
[16:54]understood for in the my own yessiree eucerin so verily with very
[16:59]difficulty there is ease at our profit loss Abu Talib and BB
[17:10]Khadija the verse continues it says and you'll be tried with loss
[17:16]of fruit our prophet mohammed also lost children brothers and sisters many
[17:23]of you may know many of you may not know my family
[17:28]and now we lost our oldest son in January of this year
[17:35]and it's a very very difficult situation it makes you cry that
[17:47]makes you question a whole lot of things our prophet he didn't
[17:52]just lose one child he lost more than one child he went
[17:59]through with my family and I went through on a number of
[18:01]occasions yet our Prophet did not step back and say hola you
[18:11]took away my child I need to walk away from you he
[18:16]was strengthening his resolve and he showed us what it truly meant
[18:19]to have faith in the law and know that the plan of
[18:25]a las olas vanuatu la was going to always move forward our
[18:29]prophet had all of these extreme things happened to him yet he
[18:36]did not go to any of the extremes the way my family
[18:41]and I were able to make it through this is because of
[18:46]loss of Hunter what Allah told the Prophet to tell us give
[18:50]glad tidings to the steadfast patient ones who want to become when
[18:56]a calamity befalls him they say in na de la he or
[19:02]in our alayhi rrg own solo I please so how does those
[19:14]experiences help us to remain a midland community because of what our
[19:21]prophet experienced it allowed him to become empathetic empathy means or is
[19:28]defined as the ability to understand and share the feelings of another
[19:32]and this is essential and this was an essential component of our
[19:38]profits personality if a person does not have this trait of being
[19:48]empathetic this individual will not be able to go out and oppose
[19:53]the oppressed the oppressors nor will they be able to speak out
[19:58]against injustice 'as it makes me happy when I see that the
[20:06]Islamic community has been empathetic towards the brothers and sisters in Nigeria
[20:12]during this hard time for she is x aqui mashallah hamdulillah it
[20:16]makes me feel good when we can protest about the things that
[20:23]are happening in Syria with our good brothers and sisters it warms
[20:28]my heart when we stand up and we speak out against the
[20:31]injustice 'as that are happening to our brothers and sisters and Palestine
[20:35]but all of these individuals that we have a tendency to be
[20:40]empathetic towards are only Muslims our prophet was not only empathic towards
[20:48]Muslims but he was empathetic towards all people at this time I'm
[20:55]just going to digress just a little bit imma keep it on
[20:59]subject but we had there's a problem here in America and you
[21:07]guys will be infected as me and my people were affected soon
[21:12]enough because we live here in America you have to be empathetic
[21:17]towards the vations are people living here in America over the past
[21:23]couple of years there have been quite a few African Americans who
[21:28]have been killed unjustly no weapons no reason for being killed but
[21:34]they died how many of us showed empathy towards them now in
[21:43]this society there was a propaganda campaign ran against the Browns the
[21:49]Browns that i'm referring to would be the blacks and hispanics what
[21:54]they did in this propaganda was back in the 70s whenever there
[21:59]was a crime committed on the news they will show you who
[22:04]committed the crime and where the crime was white black brown during
[22:08]the 80s when they began to report crime they would only report
[22:13]crimes of whites they wouldn't show the faces there tell the crime
[22:19]if it was a heinous crime then they will show the face
[22:21]but every crime that was committed by a Hispanic or black they
[22:24]will show the face eventually they didn't report on white crime so
[22:31]you didn't think that there was any white crime but white crime
[22:34]still existed the people that you look towards for crime would be
[22:37]the Hispanics and the blacks so whenever something happened to them people
[22:42]said they deserve it the propaganda machine is at work with the
[22:48]Muslims because every time they show the Muslims now there's a bombing
[22:57]there's a terroristic attack all types of bad things are happening so
[23:02]that when bad things happen to Muslims people say okay don't matter
[23:05]they deserve it let me give you some examples of what I'm
[23:10]talking about right here in North America in Canada and in these
[23:13]United States muslim women wear the chemo have been attacked who stood
[23:18]up for them did the people have empathy for them no why
[23:27]because the propaganda machine did its job he didn't they villainize the
[23:32]muslims mosque have been fire bombed how many people stood up to
[23:38]say something about the firebombing of these mosque no one if our
[23:45]Prophet was here and he saw the injustice 'as against any people
[23:48]regardless of the race the ethnicities what would our prophet have done
[23:53]he would have stood on the side of the oppressed if you
[23:58]cannot be empathetic towards people how can you expect for people to
[24:03]be empathetic towards you this was the trait of our prophet this
[24:07]is how he became or he remained on the middle path our
[24:15]prophet when he was living he lived in a time that was
[24:17]not as so much different than ours our prophet lived in a
[24:23]pluralistic society where people had different life styles and different religions our
[24:27]prophet did not force aslam on anyone someone needs to write to
[24:34]Isis ago tournament tap him a little bit and say hey look
[24:36]you know our prophet didn't go kill people because they didn't want
[24:43]to become Muslims on the contrary our Prophet was the governor he
[24:50]was the ruler of a nation that had Christians Muslims Jews and
[24:55]others for the Jews and the Christians how did he room on
[25:06]the things they did through that book he wasn't trying to take
[25:10]people away for what it was that they were doing but he
[25:12]did practice I'm going to build my own or not here no
[25:16]moon card and because of this he was just and everything he
[25:22]did our prophet has shown us in order to stay in middle
[25:26]road we must be tolerant of others and of their lifestyles but
[25:34]to help them along by letting them know what is right from
[25:38]wrong and then we've done our job our Prophet tells a lot
[25:43]to know Allah tells us again about our prophet that he is
[25:47]only sent our prophet as a mercy towards all the world's not
[25:51]to just the Arabs not to just the Muslims but to everyone
[25:57]in this whole world one of the essential elements of mercy comes
[26:03]in the form of forgiveness and who forgives like our prophet when
[26:09]we think about all the things that happen to our prophet and
[26:14]all the people who did wrong towards our prophet it's amazing to
[26:19]me that he still had the capacity to forgive people sometimes if
[26:25]someone steps on our foot and it hurts how told we hate
[26:31]them we don't want to forgive them at all but think about
[26:35]the things that happen to our prophet and what he was able
[26:39]to forgive people for our prophet was able to forgive washing who
[26:44]killed his uncle Hamza and embrace him as a brother in islam
[26:54]our prophet was able to forgive those who came into his home
[26:57]and who were ready to kill him on the night of Hydra
[27:03]he forgave them and his with in His mercy he was not
[27:06]vengeful when he went back to conquer Mecca not one blood not
[27:14]one ounce not one drop of blood was shed when he conquered
[27:17]mecca he sold mercy towards these people even towards the people who
[27:22]lied on them and who started Wars with him if our brothers
[27:29]don't call us if our sisters don't text us sometimes it's over
[27:35]when we cut you off our profit showed mercy towards people who
[27:46]argued with them history lessons know that prominent companions or people who
[27:51]peep other people think of as being prominent will argue with the
[27:54]prophet and they had no problem was shown that the Prophet that
[27:57]this pleasure that they had with the profit that our prophecy off
[28:04]with their heads that our prophet push him away no the Prophet
[28:09]kept them right there with him how many of us would have
[28:13]accepted if we're the Prophet people criticizing us second-guessing us telling us
[28:20]that is something that's wrong with our head I'll profit allow people
[28:25]to disagree with them and kept them within the phone what happens
[28:33]in our community are we following the example of the prophet and
[28:37]our communities if I have an argument with you you don't like
[28:41]what it is that I have to say you decide I'm going
[28:47]to leave this community and I'm going to break off and I'm
[28:50]going to start my own community yes we're all familiar with that
[28:54]and when you leave the community not only do you leave the
[29:02]community with ill content but you have malice in your heart towards
[29:08]your brothers syedna talked about Senator ahem saleh tura him also extends
[29:15]to your muslim brother it's not the same but you cannot the
[29:21]Prophet says you have to be in constant contact with your brother
[29:23]you should not let three days go without being in contact with
[29:26]your brother but when you have this balance in your heart and
[29:31]you break this tie then what happens you're committing a sin our
[29:38]prophet the part of the verse that I read to you that
[29:40]wasn't in the synopsis it says those who will turn on their
[29:45]heels the prophet had to deal with hypocrites who lived amongst them
[29:49]our prophet let us know he showed us how it is that
[29:54]we had to deal with these hypocrites believe you mean if we
[29:58]believe that everyone is a hypocrite that is extreme if we believe
[30:01]that there are no hypocrites then there's something wrong with us up
[30:03]here our prophet let us know that we have to be weary
[30:11]of the hypocrites but we don't know everybody's intentions if we find
[30:15]them out to be hypocrites we push ourselves away from them and
[30:21]we pray for them but if we cannot quantify our qualifier why
[30:24]they are hypocrites then we have to treat them as our brothers
[30:27]how many of us would have the patience like our prophet to
[30:38]deal with that our prophet was also humble who can say anything
[30:44]against the humility of our prophet our prophet he was a rest
[30:51]of the law he didn't necessarily have to take the advice of
[30:56]anyone he could have gone out and did things the way he
[31:01]saw fit because it would be a loss of hundred wat Allah
[31:03]who was actually given him his direction but rasulullaah in his humility
[31:10]when someone else had information good information he entertained it and when
[31:18]it was good he actually used it salman al fasi Elmohamady the
[31:23]battle of the ditch everyone's running around what are we supposed to
[31:28]do what are we supposed to do with a lot with what
[31:33]Allah have given the Prophet the solution of course but when Salman
[31:37]said you know well from we dig a ditch in it works
[31:41]our prophet did what alhamdulillah we were going to dig the ditch
[31:44]sure what that although he's Russell law he's open to people with
[31:51]their ideas during the battle of other when he was about to
[31:54]set up can a man who knew the camp area better than
[31:59]ur rasoolallah he gives Rasulullah the advice don't build your camps here
[32:04]build them there our prophet was the arrogant no he said okay
[32:10]if this is better I'm going to build my camps we're here
[32:12]how many of us have this um bonus so we're especially those
[32:19]who are in charge of even of leading groups and leading communities
[32:22]how many of you have the humbleness to accept the advice from
[32:26]other people our prophet was an excellent communicator he spoke to people
[32:35]in the way that when they heard that when he talked to
[32:41]them he didn't speak over their heads he didn't eat it in
[32:44]use language that were confused to people he didn't use language that
[32:52]the people didn't understand when he spoke he spoke in a way
[32:56]that everybody could get what he said and that there wouldn't be
[32:59]any ambiguity so like I said in the beginning what is it
[33:06]that we're really what we talked about we be in the middle
