[6:11]Sanada medulla Mohammad many Muslims living in the United States find it
[6:22]very difficult they find many challenges that they face every day can
[6:29]you please cut the echo for many Muslims they find many challenges
[6:40]living in the United States and especially for the younger generation especially
[6:46]for those who live in the United States and grew up here
[6:52]and those who engage with the outside world those who go to
[7:01]the universities those who go to schools and you find that there
[7:05]is a conflict there's a constant conflict that's going on in life
[7:09]you either want to hold on to your religion you want to
[7:14]hold on to your faith that's one that's one aspect and from
[7:19]another aspect you find that society societal perceptions university school academia professors
[7:28]they push you towards another way and you find that there is
[7:33]this conflict because we have to admit it we live in a
[7:40]predominantly non-muslim society and not that it's a bad thing but there
[7:44]are many things that are taught in schools that are outside in
[7:48]society where it not only shows a challenge to you as a
[7:56]religious person when you're practicing your religion for example it's prayer time
[8:01]and you want to pray you find it difficult where are you
[8:03]gonna pray you know that it's your it's not going to be
[8:07]easy to find a place to pray a place to practice your
[8:11]religion or for example for the sisters who practice her job for
[8:15]the sisters who practice the modesty they find it difficult because you
[8:19]know you're living in a society where the majority of the people
[8:21]are not practicing and for the men also there are many challenges
[8:28]so this is one aspect one type of challenge that many Muslims
[8:31]face and especially the younger generation like yourselves where you did you
[8:36]were you did not grow up in a predominantly Muslim society you
[8:40]grew up here and this is what you know so you have
[8:44]and in the home at the house in your home with your
[8:50]family you're taught one thing but then when you go outside when
[8:53]you're exposed to the outside world you're taught something else and sometimes
[8:58]there's this conflict there's this conflict of what you're taught and then
[9:03]this develops into an identity crisis you know some people they don't
[9:07]know what they are at home there one thing outside the home
[9:11]in school there something else so this is why it's very important
[9:18]to have a strong foundation to have a strong foundation so you
[9:22]know what your identity is so that your it's not very easy
[9:26]to come and change you change your personality change your identity change
[9:31]your perspective on life you know you find some people they're in
[9:35]their 20s they're in their 30s they're in their 40s suddenly they
[9:39]switch suddenly they go and they talk to one person and they
[9:41]go and they have a change of heart their life changes everything
[9:46]that they're doing in life suddenly changes you know a few days
[9:49]ago a sister she came up to me with her husband they
[9:54]were getting a divorce and she told me all of the sudden
[9:57]my husband changed you know he went in a in an environment
[10:01]and an atmosphere that is very different from what he was this
[10:15]happens my dear brothers and sisters especially for Muslims we see this
[10:20]challenge very easy out there because we live in a society where
[10:27]Islam is not the predominant religion and in fact there are those
[10:32]who speak constantly attack the religion of Islam you know there are
[10:36]those who show a challenge to the religion of Islam wherever you
[10:40]go you turn on the you know the news you're watching a
[10:44]movie you go outside to the schools so the universities you see
[10:48]there's this constant attack and misconceptions against the religion understand if someone
[10:51]doesn't have a strong foundation they're going to change very easy this
[10:55]is why it's very important to build a foundation and the way
[11:00]to build the foundation is through a mosque through activities through engaging
[11:05]with the Muslim youth second try to create an environment for yourself
[11:10]an environment that will protect you when the environment up when others
[11:15]they try to change you you have a group of people to
[11:17]resort to a group of friends colleagues people that you can turn
[11:25]to that will help you in times of struggle so we see
[11:28]that there are challenges to religion there are those straightforward challenges to
[11:33]religion the attacks against religion and then you find some other types
[11:37]of challenges that are subtle challenges they're not very they're not very
[11:42]clear out there but there are challenges that change our perception on
[11:48]life you know for example today anyone that goes to a university
[11:53]here anyone that goes to school here they will see that simple
[11:59]things you know things that we grew up to accept from day
[12:01]one once you go to a university you see that that notion
[12:07]is challenged for example the idea of gender the idea of gender
[12:10]you know we know we we grew up knowing that there's the
[12:15]male gender and the female gender but then you go but you
[12:18]go to some you know out there some professors they come and
[12:22]they tell you no there's no such a thing as gender you
[12:23]could do whatever you want to do you could be whatever you
[12:28]want to be now you could be whatever you want to be
[12:32]in your own head but you can't come and force other people
[12:35]to accept that you're something else you know Allah subhana Allah created
[12:40]us in two genders a male and a female Allah says in
[12:45]the Quran in nanak not come in the Curan wantha mi says
[12:48]we created you male and female wajal now come show Ruben walk
[12:54]about in a litter out of food this is a fact can
[12:55]you come and change a fact this wall is white can I
[13:00]come and say this wall is black if I say you know
[13:04]as much as I want as much as I can it's not
[13:09]going to change a fact but now we see that we live
[13:11]in a time we live in an environment where there are certain
[13:15]facts and other people they come and they try to change these
[13:18]facts they come and they try to tell you that what you
[13:23]know is wrong and you know we live in the era of
[13:28]fake news and everything is fake you know there's so many things
[13:30]out there are fake so there are people that will come and
[13:32]they'll try to even change things that you you know you know
[13:39]and you accept a hundred percent to be true they come and
[13:41]they try to change that one of those things that society does
[13:47]is that it tries to change the gender norms gender norms gender
[13:53]responsibilities and you see that perhaps it's not very clear it's a
[13:59]very subtle challenge to the basic concept of gender that we know
[14:05]of so a loss of hano Dada expects something else if someone
[14:19]has a strong foundation if someone has wronged faith in Allah subhana
[14:23]WA Ta'ala if someone has a solid footing this person is not
[14:30]going to change very easily but when then you will find that
[14:43]this person will shift very easily and imam ali audience um he
[14:47]has a beautiful saying he says that people are in three categories
[14:50]either you're a knowledgeable person you're a person who has a strong
[14:56]footing in life you know where you are knowledgeable doesn't necessarily mean
[14:59]that you know biology math or even religion you know some people
[15:06]perhaps they're not very educated and their religion but they have a
[15:10]strong footing they have a strong eda they know where they came
[15:12]from they know where they're going in life they know what their
[15:16]goal is what their purpose in life is and this is something
[15:19]that we all have to know so either you're a knowledgeable person
[15:22]or you're a person who's on the path of knowledge you're a
[15:28]person who's seeking knowledge and every single one of us should always
[15:31]strive to seek knowledge this is a duty upon us either I'm
[15:34]a knowledgeable person or I have to be a person who is
[15:38]striving to seek knowledge and none of no one of us could
[15:39]you know firmly say that I'm a knowledgeable person we are all
[15:45]on a path to seek knowledge and there's a third category in
[15:49]mammalian Exilim he places a third category there's the knowledgeable the island
[15:54]the Mota alum and the third is the homage on rah the
[15:58]homage is the you know the particles that you see flying in
[16:03]the air sometimes when you're driving in the freeway and you see
[16:06]you see these particles this year we had a lot of them
[16:10]you see you see these particles you know you blow up you
[16:12]blow and you see that they go that way then they keep
[16:16]coming back they keep going back and forth in my mind and
[16:20]said I'm going to describe some people as those particles that are
[16:23]in the air they have no foundation anything will move them anything
[16:26]will change them don't be like that my dear brothers and sisters
[16:29]be someone who has a strong identity be someone who is firm
[16:36]someone who has not changed who's not impacted very easily of course
[16:39]be impacted by the by Haq by what's right by the Quran
[16:45]by the hadith of the Prophet by logic things that make sense
[16:47]but don't be impacted by things that don't make sense just because
[16:52]we see you know thousands of people millions of people there doing
[16:54]something it doesn't mean that I have to go and do that
[16:58]and we see that one of the challenges today that society as
[17:04]a whole and specifically the younger generation they face is the the
[17:10]societal you know expectations of gender norms what does society expect from
[17:15]the female what does society expect from the melt and we see
[17:18]that some people they succumb to these desires to these expectations even
[17:25]if they're not right even if they're wrong we tend to follow
[17:29]in the footsteps you know society expects from men in general not
[17:34]only here in the United States is that um has to be
[17:41]physically strong like myself right so a man is expected to be
[17:45]strong if a man is not strong if a man is not
[17:48]buff if a man is not muscular then everyone is not going
[17:53]to respect this person as a true man no one is going
[17:55]to respect this person as a manly man you know everyone if
[18:02]you want to have a real man then this person needs to
[18:06]be strong manly you are another thing as society expects from man
[18:26]a Mel to be rich to be wealthy you know a lot
[18:29]of guys they come to me and they say I went and
[18:32]I proposed to get married and they told me no we're not
[18:38]doing giving you our daughter why because you don't have X amount
[18:42]of dollars in your bank account you don't drive this type of
[18:47]car perhaps right now we're thinking about this we're saying how silly
[18:50]could people be you know you judge you judge a person by
[18:52]how much money they have but this is how we are we
[18:56]are taught to think this is how this is our perception of
[19:01]what is successful a successful person we assume that a successful person
[19:06]has to have a lot of money that's what defines success another
[19:10]is that a man has to be powerful a man has to
[19:14]be on top a man is the one who is the decision-maker
[19:18]a man is the one who's the leader this is what society
[19:21]generally expects from a man what does society expect from the female
[19:26]the list is a lot longer the list is a lot longer
[19:32]and that's why a lot of women they find you know greater
[19:38]amount of struggles before leaving the house there is an you know
[19:42]a list of things that you have to do in order to
[19:45]be accepted once you leave the house right is this true or
[19:47]am I just saying this ok London I see some of you
[19:52]are nodding your heads there there are a lot of expectations for
[19:56]female if a lady wants to be successful if she wants to
[20:01]be accepted in a job if she wants to be liked by
[20:05]you know people outside then she has to fit into the norms
[20:08]and the expectations of society even if she is very qualified even
[20:13]if she is you know the smartest in her class the top
[20:16]of her class she's very qualified when it comes to her intellect
[20:19]when it comes to her you know intellectual capabilities but you see
[20:24]that there's this glass ceiling and even here in the United States
[20:28]even in some of the most you know open-minded societies you find
[20:34]that this exists here in the United States women don't have positions
[20:38]of power this is why we have we had just a few
[20:42]months ago the me two movements what was that about one aspect
[20:44]of it had to do with sexual exploitation and the second had
[20:50]to do with positions of power you find many women they're not
[20:54]you know they do the same exact job as the guy a
[20:59]man does in the same work in you know the same work
[21:01]environment but they get paid less than the man this is in
[21:07]the United States many of these so-called sophisticated open-minded democratic countries that
[21:14]we live in isn't this a type of oppression and in addition
[21:17]to that a lady she is expected to be skinny at some
[21:22]times she's expected to be curvy at times she's expected to dress
[21:27]anyway she's expected to you know put on makeup she's expected to
[21:30]do so much there's an industry there's a billion dollar or billions
[21:34]of dollars that are invested in how a woman should look now
[21:40]of course the men also have this but it's not as much
[21:43]the the stress you know the pressure is on the woman much
[21:50]more and you find sometimes it's not the men that are placing
[21:53]the pressure on the woman that's true and you know a lot
[21:57]of it comes from the men other times it's the woman that
[22:00]are placing pressure on women you know there's a woman they come
[22:04]and they say you know I can't go out over here why
[22:06]because there's this woman they're going to look at me you know
[22:10]I have to put on this makeup I have to wear this
[22:12]dress I have to do this and that and the pressure comes
[22:17]from women so you see that these expectations these wrong expectations they
[22:21]made us oppress one another for example the woman they have expectations
[22:25]from women men have expectations from men which end up you know
[22:32]shifting our focus from what we should actually work on what we
[22:35]should actually strive on to better ourselves to enhance ourselves and we
[22:38]focus on the superficial things how I'm looking wearing these type of
[22:44]things that will you know generally go away these type of things
[22:47]that are not that important and you find that even within the
[22:55]Muslim communities you find that there is this type of impact you
[22:59]know even those who were a job or even those men who
[23:03]you know they have the beard it has to be very nice
[23:05]there Imam Ali their Imam Ali necklace has to you know be
[23:10]this shape the tattoo of Yahoo saying or yeah Ali has to
[23:12]be in this way we create these you know expectations and we
[23:19]fall in these traps we create these problems for ourselves these expectations
[23:24]and we fall on them and this is exactly what happened with
[23:28]Hollywood this is exactly what happened with the entertainment industry Hollywood they
[23:34]came and they made movies they made billions and billions and billions
[23:38]of dollars out of these movies movies that teach you how to
[23:41]shoot a gun movies that advocate gun violence then who's the victim
[23:49]of the gun gun violence every day in the United States you
[23:53]have a shooting Hollywood is doing this second Hollywood advocates sexual exploitation
[24:01]it advocates you know the sexual ization of men and women but
[24:06]more you know it focuses more on women and you find that
[24:12]this machine this monster that was created by Hollywood of course it's
[24:16]not only Hollywood everyone has that you know everyone has that desire
[24:20]within them but when that desire is there and you're watching them
[24:23]you know you're watching so many movies that are showing these issues
[24:26]showing these it's going to you know it's going to basically pour
[24:33]fuel on the fire it's going to make it much worse Hollywood
[24:36]created this monster and you see that this monster started eating from
[24:40]within how many men in Hollywood just last year they lost their
[24:45]jobs they lost their positions because of the monster that they created
[24:49]the directors the directors who were directing movies that sexually exploit women
[24:54]you find that it was these very directors that were abusing the
[24:58]woman that were working for them an actress who is you know
[25:01]we see her as so she acts in a movie where she
[25:06]is so respectable she's so powerful but in order to get that
[25:10]position she has to be abused by the director or you find
[25:14]you know the gymnasts they go and their doctors the one who
[25:18]is abusing them so you see this promotion of sexuality this promotion
[25:23]of you know belittling the female and making sure that the female
[25:28]she has to dress in a way she has to speak in
[25:31]a way she has to talk in a way that's the only
[25:34]way that she's going to be the expectations of women the expectations
[25:47]of men the expectations of women what does Islam say now of
[25:53]course before we go into Islam says this doesn't mean that all
[25:58]Muslims are perfect you know you find Muslims sometimes they are the
[26:02]ones who end up a pressing woman and they are the ones
[26:08]who end up a pressing man and they fall they fall victim
[26:10]to these gender norms or they they create their own gender norms
[26:13]you know every culture every society has their own problems now when
[26:17]I say Islam I don't mean what Muslims are doing there are
[26:21]many Muslims that are doing a lot of things that are wrong
[26:23]things that are not Islamic so don't come and tell me you
[26:28]know yes you say it's not this but then look at this
[26:30]country how we begin practicing the religion of Islam the way we're
[26:45]supposed to that's the day that we free ourselves from the burdens
[26:48]and the chains of society and this is what all sort of
[26:52]masala Mahalo you either came with allah subhanaw taala describes rasulallah Yahveh
[26:59]or annum Ezra home well al Ali Lettie can itani him well
[27:02]sort of lhasa imam ali new idea one of the things that
[27:06]he came and he did society is that he removed the burdens
[27:09]and the chains that society had placed upon individuals that lived in
[27:13]that city so the lot came and removed all of that and
[27:15]if we are true followers of islam we have to follow what
[27:20]the religion of islam says not what our culture says because sometimes
[27:24]our culture's our own Arab culture or Middle Eastern culture it has
[27:29]expectations from us that are also wrong also very oppressive you know
[27:33]I find a lot of people they come to me they tell
[27:37]me I want to get married and I have to have a
[27:42]wedding right I say yes wedding this mustahab wedding is recommended in
[27:46]Islam it's much to have to have a walima where you invite
[27:50]your family you invite your friends and you declare that this couple
[27:54]has started their life together but then they say but in that
[27:58]wedding there's going to be a lot of Haram that is going
[28:02]to go on there's going to be a lot of things that
[28:04]you know are unlawful in the religion of Islam the mixing of
[28:10]the genders the dancing the music all of that things that are
[28:14]not acceptable in the religion of Islam I have to you know
[28:18]they come and they tell me I have to do that say
[28:19]why this is because my family expects it from me the culture
[28:24]expects it from me so you see that sometimes our own cultures
[28:31]they our own cultures you know culture expects things from us that
[28:36]are also very wrong and this is why as Muslims we need
[28:38]to learn where to draw the line between culture and where to
[28:42]draw the line between religion and a lot of Muslims don't know
[28:45]that a lot of Muslims today they confuse culture and religion and
[28:49]that's why you have so many problems that are emerging within the
[28:55]Muslim trees so the religion of Islam how does the religion of
[28:58]Islam regard and perceive men and women first of all allah subhana
[29:04]wa ta'ala does not differentiate between men and women in the eyes
[29:09]of Allah men and women are completely equal don't let anyone come
[29:14]and tell you that the religion of Islam regards you know men
[29:19]above women men are better than women in the religion of Islam
[29:22]no that's not true go back to the Quran Allah says in
[29:27]the Quran first a job a home Rob Boehm and Neela Oh
[29:30]Theo I'm Ella a millon min come min the Curan Alonza a
[29:37]mosses in the Quran that Allah will not lose whatever you have
[29:42]done if you have done anything good Allah will treat you all
[29:47]the same the car o antha male or female everyone is going
[29:50]to be treated the same in another verse Allah says in the
[29:56]Quran and not muslimeen one Muslim at one moment in one movement
[30:00]one carnitine one can attach what side the pain was side about
[30:03]many of you understand Arabic right so here the verse is referring
[30:10]to the man from the Muslims and the woman from the Muslims
[30:12]the mean the man the believing men and the believing woman the
[30:16]Connaughton those who do Canute from the man and from the woman
[30:22]Asad the teen was sad the God the truthful men and the
[30:23]truthful woman was Sabrina was sabila the patient men and the patient
[30:30]woman well Carina well car shot when much of the pain I
[30:32]went with us at the cart what saw I mean I was
[30:36]saw a match well happily in a Fallujah home well half a
[30:38]lot with daiquiri namaha kaffir on what the Korat at the mullah
[30:45]ferritin were a german edema allah you see that the rhetoric the
[30:49]language is a language of equality in the quran allah subhanaw taala
[30:53]does not regard men in a different status do so however equal
[31:10]in the eyes of Allah them does that mean that men and
[31:18]women are the same no men and women are not the same
[31:21]they're equal but they're not the same and if a loss of
[31:26]a note Allah were to place laws that treat the men and
[31:28]the woman exactly the same then that would be oppression from allah
[31:35]subhanaw taala towards the men enters them if men and women were
[31:39]treated exactly the same by Allah the laws were treating them exactly
[31:42]the same then that's one that's oppression imagine for example a father
[31:46]he has you know two children one is 15 years old and
[31:54]the other is 5 years old if the father or the mother
[31:59]they treat their children exactly the same then that means the father
[32:03]the mother are going to oppress them they're not going to do
[32:06]justice justice is not treating them exactly the same justice is giving
[32:11]everyone exactly what they deserve exactly what they deserve exactly what they
[32:16]need that is justice that is what justice is imagine you know
[32:25]society treats everyone exactly the same now it might sound very idealistic
[32:29]very right but there are people that need extra treatment they need
[32:33]better treatment they need money they need welfare they need medical care
[32:36]you know here for example society says we're not going to give
[32:40]anyone health care benefits some people they say I don't need health
[32:45]care but I'm did Allah Allah has given me money but what
[32:47]about those who don't have money they need that extra care they
[32:50]need that extra love they need that extra support if society treats
[32:54]them all the same then that means there's oppression so a lot
[33:00]subhana Allah he has created laws for men and for women so
[33:04]that we live in a very equal lifestyle so that no one
[33:09]oppresses one another so that Allah does not oppress us and we
[33:12]do not oppress one another and we live we cohabitate with one
[33:16]another we live with one another in peace and in harmony so
[33:20]what does a loss of a Natalia expect from men we said
[33:25]that society expects a man to be strong a man to be
[33:33]powerful a man to be very wealthy in islam allah subhanaw taala
[33:36]does not judge you by how much wealth you have allah subhanaw
[33:39]taala does not judge you by how much you could lift you
[33:43]know some people they in the gym maybe that's how they judge
[33:48]you when you go to the gym you find that those who
[33:49]could lift a lot they are in one one area and everyone
[33:55]else is afraid to go near them right so a loss of
[33:59]high notes Allah does not treat us that way a loss of
[34:02]hano to Allah in the eyes of Allah Allah looks at what's
[34:06]inside one day it'll sort of muscle of Maharani here Ilah he
[34:10]was walking and he saw a man he was carrying a huge
[34:15]rock and people were standing around him and they were clapping and
[34:19]they were so excited so rasul allah he tells them what is
[34:21]this what's going on they tell him this man is the strongest
[34:27]of the arabs she's able to carry this huge rock this huge
[34:29]boulder he's able to carry it so then rasulallah he smiled and
[34:35]he tells them real strength is not defined by how much you
[34:39]could carry by how much you could lift real strength is defined
[34:44]by how much self-control you have that's real strength you know someone
[34:52]they're able to lift 300 pounds but at 4 a.m.
[34:57]at 4:30 a.m.
[34:55]they can't lift their own blank then what's the value of that
[35:11]strength real strength real power is determined by self-control this is what
[35:19]allah subhanaw taala looks at second having looks you know society judges
[35:24]people by how beautiful they look how organized how rich they are
[35:28]how powerful they are in Islam Allah subhana Allah does not judge
[35:32]you by how much money you have in your bank accounts Allah
[35:38]subhana Allah does not judge you by how well you look and
[35:41]all of that of course it's very good you know it's very
[35:44]recommended to groom yourself it's very recommended to look as best as
[35:49]you can Allah says in the Quran Hulu zeenat's a commander couldn
[35:53]t Masjid take your adornment to the Masjid this is you're going
[35:56]to have a conversation with allah subhana wa ta'ala beautify yourself and
[36:00]this is why Allah sort of law and it said that he
[36:04]would spend one-third of his income on the perfume on the Cologne
[36:07]on smelling good this was all sort of loss of Allah Allah
[36:12]who are they so it's good to care about these things but
[36:15]do these things define you who you are as a person no
[36:18]of course not these things do not define you as an individual
[36:23]allah subhana wa ta'ala does not look at what's apparent Allah Subhan
[36:27]o Tejada looks at what's in your heart maybe society looks at
[36:31]you as an apparent from the appearance that's why a lot of
[36:35]people they can't find a job they can't you know get that
[36:40]position at work because they look in this specific way and they
[36:43]find that the only way that they could be accepted in society
[36:48]is once they go and they change the way they look they
[36:50]change their appearance that's the only way that they could be accepted
[36:52]but in the eyes of Allah Allah will accept you any way
[36:57]you are because at the end of the day you are all
[37:00]the creation of allah subhanaw taala and Allah has the beauty and
[37:04]he is the creation he is the creator of beauty everything that
[37:08]is created is beautiful maybe my eyes do not see something as
[37:11]beautiful but in the eyes of Allah that is a creation of
[37:16]Allah and that is beauty so Allah subhana Allah judge us by
[37:21]our appearances but society does that there was a man during the
[37:24]life of rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wa ala this man by the name
[37:33]of Joe Eber this man he was poor he was not very
[37:36]good-looking he did not have power he did not have anything he
[37:41]was homeless he was living in the mustard of the profits this
[37:43]man one day I sort of lost a llama Holly who either
[37:48]saw him he tells him why aren't you married Salaam Medina movement
[37:56]so this man Joe aber he tells the Prophet it doesn't who's
[38:03]going to marry me I'm not very good-looking I don't have money
[38:09]I don't have a house I don't have anything so I sort
[38:11]of Lhasa Allah hardly knew Ali he tells him why don't you
[38:14]go and propose to such-and-such lady the the daughter of one of
[38:22]the tribe leaders in Medina so this man he said you want
[38:24]me to go and propose to the daughter of this tribe the
[38:29]daughter of this tribe leader Who am I you know I mean
[38:30]I'm right here she's right here Who am I going to you
[38:35]know they're never going to accept accept me sort of sort of
[38:37]law says go and tell them or a sort of law said
[38:40]go and propose and tell them that I sort of lesson so
[38:44]this man joy but he goes and he proposes to this lady
[38:45]and her father he opened the house he thought that this man
[38:53]was coming he needed something then this young man this man he
[38:57]says I we're from here you're here we're not going to we're
[39:10]not compatible with one another even though this man was a book
[39:13]believer even though this man was a Moulton so this young man
[39:18]he got up and he loved he loved because you know he
[39:20]never thought that anything was going to happen anyways he left once
[39:26]he was leaving the daughter who he came to propose to she
[39:29]told her father Oh father this man came as a messenger from
[39:33]rasulallah if you reject him that means you're rejecting rasulallah bajalia what
[39:39]are you willing to do so so this man the father of
[39:44]the of the lady he goes and he runs after joy a
[39:48]bit and he comes back to him and he tells him you
[39:50]know what I'm going to give you my daughter because it was
[39:52]sort of lacet so and this shows what kind of a believer
[39:55]he was he was a believer because he knows that water sown
[39:58]Allah has chosen for him is good for his daughter and for
[40:02]him and for everyone so Allah is not going to tell you
[40:04]to do something that is not good for you and similarly the
[40:09]religion of Islam in general does not order us to do something
[40:11]that is going to harm us every order in the religion of
[40:16]Islam every order in the Quran is something that is good for
[40:18]us in one way or another maybe we don't realize it so
[40:21]this man he goes and he marries his daughter to joy but
[40:29]joy / was homeless so the man he was well off he
[40:32]goes and he builds a house and he tells his daughter you
[40:34]know what why don't you get married in this house they go
[40:38]and they end up getting married of course this shows this shows
[40:45]the the shows that the religion of Islam does not look at
[40:49]you for you know how how much you carry in your bank
[40:54]account how much money you have or your looks Allah subhana WA
[40:56]Ta'ala looks at your a cloud allah subhanaw taala looks at your
[41:02]iman looks at your faith this is what the religion of islam
[41:05]teaches us while society teaches us to judge people by what is
[41:09]apparent another thing you see that society gives respect to people if
[41:14]they have money if someone does not have money society is not
[41:20]going to respect this person even in the most democratic of societies
[41:23]there's no respect to people who don't have money right now you
[41:27]think of for example Donald Trump he didn't have money you think
[41:30]he would have been president no one would vote for him to
[41:36]be President but people they voted for him to be president even
[41:39]though he had so many moral moral wrongs even though they knew
[41:42]that there were so many wrong so many question marks about this
[41:47]person throughout his whole campaign but yet they went and they voted
[41:52]for him why because he sells Trump steaks because he you know
[41:55]he has a Trump Tower because he's rich because he's loaded because
[41:59]of this and he has a plane has his own airplane people
[42:01]we tend to judge people we tend to show respect and value
[42:09]people by how much money they have the Quran and the religion
[42:11]of islam teaches us to not do that don't judge a man
[42:16]or a woman by how much women how much how much money
[42:19]they have don't judge anyone by how much wealth that they have
[42:24]one day amount imam sadiq ali salaam he says that one day
[42:28]a man came into the masjid there were there were a wealthy
[42:33]person a person who was very wealthy and he was dressed very
[42:36]nice he was sitting in front of rasulallah and next to him
[42:42]came there there people sitting in the masjid and also loved by
[42:45]he's standing and he's giving a lecture so people are you know
[42:47]they're sitting so a poor person came and he sat next to
[42:54]the wolfie person he sat next to the person who has a
[42:58]lot of wealth was wearing very nice clothes this wealthy person when
[43:03]he realized that this poor person came and according to some narrations
[43:08]it has been on Maktoum when he came he wanted to sit
[43:11]next to him what did the rich person do what did the
[43:15]wealthy person do he did something that perhaps a lot of us
[43:20]do without and realizing he didn't say anything he didn't you show
[43:25]any signs other than all that he did was that he collected
[43:27]himself he collected his clothes and he placed them under his own
[43:31]thumb all right he did he just when he saw this poor
[43:37]person came and sat next to him he came and he just
[43:43]collected his clothes and that's all that he did but no sort
[43:45]of loss of a lot any wider he noticed this so I
[43:48]sort of light tells him why did you do that why did
[43:54]you collect yourself why did you collect and do that so Allah
[43:59]tells him why did you do that were you afraid that your
[44:08]wealth is going to transfer to his and it's going to make
[44:10]him rich he says no but so the mat tells him were
[44:15]you afraid that his poverty is going to transfer to you and
[44:18]make you poor he said no but sort of that tells him
[44:24]were you afraid that he's going to make your clothes dirty he
[44:27]said no order sort of law then what sort of battles and
[44:31]then why did you do that then the man he replied he
[44:36]says in Le Torino nukid before the college Amin where your Zaillian
[44:40]only could not be here he says I have a Kareem I
[44:44]have a partner who's with me who makes everything that's to be
[44:48]everything that's wrong he makes it look good and everything that's right
[44:54]and moral he makes it look bad who is that partner that
[44:59]every single one of us has a thorn we all have a
[45:03]Kareem we all have that Shaitaan was with us wherever we go
[45:08]so this man right away he realized that what he did was
[45:11]wrong and he says in Le Trianon you could be holy could
[45:15]allege a meal while yours alien could look a biga he says
[45:18]I have this Shaitaan I was fooled by Shaitaan right away he
[45:21]admitted it and then he tells us all Allah it tells were
[45:26]sort of La I will give him half of my money I
[45:31]will give him half of my wealth imagine the impact that also
[45:34]Allah has on people were a rich person he says I will
[45:39]give half of my wealth to this poor person because he realized
[45:42]that what he did was wrong so what sort of lie he
[45:48]tells that person he tells the poor person he tells him he
[45:50]has offered to give you half of his wealth do you want
[45:55]that will you accept that then that man the poor person he
[45:57]says no no sort of I don't want his money I don't
[46:01]want the money because I'm afraid that what happened to him is
[46:04]going to happen to me I'm afraid that I'm going to start
[46:07]judging people by how much money they have I'm afraid that I'm
[46:12]going to start judging people by the clothes that they wear and
[46:14]this is a problem that many of us have my dear brothers
[46:19]and sisters and this is why we look at some of the
[46:21]Companions of Rasul Allah we see that money did not define them
[46:25]and they were not even attached to money he comes and he
[46:27]offers him to give half of his money you know most of
[46:31]us would probably really say yes of course I'll take half of
[46:33]your money but this man who says no I don't want the
[46:38]money because I'm afraid that these social vices are going to transfer
[46:41]to me now of course allah subhanaw taala does not judge you
[46:50]a man or woman by the wealth by the looks by the
[46:52]power by the position in society by allah subhanaw taala has given
[46:59]some duties some responsibilities for men as a son as a father
[47:03]as a husband the man has certain duties and responsibilities and this
[47:08]is not because there's this some sort of misogyny or you know
[47:13]Islam creates this patriarchal society no because in order for a family
[47:17]to function properly there's delegation of tasks everyone has a duty and
[47:23]this is why in Islam the husband has certain duties the husband
[47:27]has certain responsibilities and the wife also and the lady has certain
[47:34]duties and responsibilities now we will switch to what allah subhanaw taala
[47:38]expects from the female we mentioned in the beginning that the female
[47:44]what is expected from her is that she has to be beautiful
[47:46]she has to put on this you know how many pounds of
[47:50]makeup before she leaves she has to do this and that she
[47:52]has to dress in this way in order to be accepted in
[47:55]order for other people to look at her in order for her
[47:58]to get married in order for so many things you know so
[48:01]many things times you know some sisters they contact me and they
[48:05]say no one is coming to propose to me and one year
[48:09]or one month two months three months and then later on you
[48:12]come and you see that she took off her hijab or she
[48:17]started putting on makeup she started doing things that attract wrong attention
[48:22]is this what we really want for ourselves if you want to
[48:25]attract attention you should attract the right attention don't attract attention from
[48:31]the wrong person who wants to just look at you or judge
[48:35]you by how you look or by what you're wearing and this
[48:39]is why in the religion of Islam we have the concept of
[48:41]modesty and chastity the concept of ephah which I don't even know
[48:47]if there's a word for it in English you know the this
[48:49]concept which is very far from what's going on in in society
[48:55]right now and in many places in the movies wherever you go
[48:58]you see that this concept is totally ripped apart and totally gone
[49:06]from society and you see that this exploitation this objectification of women
[49:10]has so many negative you know effects outcomes and you don't have
[49:17]to be a Muslim to notice that just look at what's happening
[49:19]you know in the world today the sexual assault in Hollywood is
[49:22]happening the same industry that is creating this monster it's happening so
[49:27]this is why we when we go to the religion of Islam
[49:32]some people they say Islam oppresses woman why because Islam you know
[49:37]orders women to practice modesty and chastity well first of all Islam
[49:41]does not just order women to practice modesty and chastity this is
[49:47]an order for men and women and so Latin or Allah says
[49:49]in the Quran put a little mean I have a common Apsara
[49:52]him and then sack the second verse and tell the believing woman
[49:55]so there are there's an order for men and there's an order
[50:02]for women and both have a responsibility however for the woman because
[50:08]you know the body is different they're equal but they're not the
[50:12]same there are certain there's a certain dress code there certain things
[50:16]that a female has to do in order to protect herself because
[50:20]she is regarded as a treasure she is regarded as a beauty
[50:23]and she needs to protect herself from strangers from outsiders now there's
[50:27]nothing wrong with showing your beauty to the one who deserves to
[50:31]see that beauty someone who's allowed someone who appreciates that beauty but
[50:34]if it's going to be someone that wants to judge you by
[50:39]how you look and accept you for how much makeup you have
[50:43]and what you're wearing then this is something that is going to
[50:46]have a negative consequence a negative impact and this is why we
[50:52]have two types of hijab Allah says in the Quran yeah you
[50:55]had yeah Benny Adam and zellner alaikum Lieberson you re so had
[51:01]to come more Isha Wendy bass so taqwa Danika for you Allah
[51:05]says there's two types of garments that a loss of a note
[51:12]Allah has made obligatory for men and women Allah says in the
[51:16]Quran ya many a Democrat and zelner alaikum we have brought down
[51:21]upon your children of Adam Lee bass and a cloak clothes you
[51:25]re so add to come more Isha there is the physical clothes
[51:31]the physical clothes and then there's another type of clothes and then
[51:37]Allah says when they buy so taqwa Danika a job a lot
[51:39]of people they say her job is just that job that I
[51:43]have on my head that's what defines you if a sister is
[51:47]wearing a job then she's a maja drama that's not the case
[51:49]allah subhanho wa taala expects two types of hijab from man and
[51:55]woman each one according to their own you know their own rules
[51:58]there is the outer edge AB that is the the veil that
[52:02]is warned a job the cover that is worn with you cover
[52:04]your yourself and this is something that all humans except you know
[52:08]every human being wants to cover themselves at least a little bit
[52:12]now some people a little bit more a little bit less depending
[52:16]on the chastity and modesty otherwise we are all programmed to cover
[52:20]ourselves to protect ourselves to protect our beauties so there's one that
[52:26]is the outer head job that is the head job Warren and
[52:30]there's the second when Lobosco taqwah the garment of piety and this
[52:34]reflects on what you you know what you say how you walk
[52:40]things the way that you act outside men and women all have
[52:43]this duty and have this responsibility now there is also another and
[52:52]I'll end with this another issue where some people they come and
[52:56]they say because the lady is wearing her job then she has
[52:58]no rights in society you know she can't come out and speak
[53:02]she can't engage she can't be active she can't be proactive she
[53:06]can't do anything in society whoever told you that is lying to
[53:09]you whoever said that is lying to you because we have an
[53:16]islam and specifically in the shia school of thought we have three
[53:20]women that are revered that are honored and if it was not
[53:23]for these three women and their activism that they had and how
[53:30]they spoke truth and these they spoke against the injustice of their
[53:34]time Aslam wouldn't be the way it came to us today the
[53:36]first is Khadija the wife of Rasul Allah mohamet whereas Allah boy
[53:44]says about her MA but he says his own Allah says boonie
[53:47]al-islam Islam was built by the wealth of Khadijah and the sword
[53:53]of ali IBN ABI talib that means that Khadijah was proactive with
[53:55]all sort of MA but so the law was calling people to
[54:00]the religion of Islam Khadijah wasn't just sitting at home and not
[54:04]doing anything no Khadija played a very active role in society at
[54:06]that time today you find some woman they come and they say
[54:10]no I don't want to do anything I don't want to be
[54:11]involved I don't want to be engaged why all because it's better
[54:15]for my you know better this is the way women are supposed
[54:18]to be if women were supposed to be that way then why
[54:22]wasn't Khadija sitting at her home not doing anything second Fatima to
[54:27]Zahra alehissalaam the daughter of Rasul Allah the leader of all of
[54:31]the women of the world's Fatima to Zahra s-salam yes there was
[54:36]a time when Rasul Allah was there when Amir al-mumineen he had
[54:38]the power he had the freedom fatima zahra she was quiet she
[54:41]was doing her choose fulfilling her own responsibilities but the day imam
[54:47]ali ali said i'm was kept in his home and they told
[54:49]him you have no power and you have no authority fatima -
[54:52]Zara yes she wore her abaya she were with her full modesty
[54:57]and chastity and she went out and she delivered a sermon in
[55:01]the masjid of rosula blossom of Mahadeva some people are shocked a
[55:05]lady delivers a sermon yes Fatima to Zara s-salam she did so
[55:11]and third sayyeda zeinab alehissalaam say the Zeynep who saved the mission
[55:16]of Imam Hussain if not for say the zeyneb the blood of
[55:19]imam hussain would have you know the blood of a mountain would
[55:23]have fallen on the land of Karbala and no one would have
[55:25]known about it no one would have heard about it it was
[55:29]zeyneb honest and I'm the head that rule so my dear brothers
[55:31]and sisters and specially the sisters we have you know maybe cultures
[55:36]maybe societies tell you to act in a way go and see
[55:40]what Allah some high note on that expects from you go and
[55:44]see what the religion of Islam expects from you what also Allah
[55:47]expects from you how your best role models were Fatima to Zahra
[55:50]say the Khadija say the zeyneb how they were and then you
[55:54]will be able to reach your highest potential because a job should
[55:58]not stop you from reaching your highest potential and you will be
[56:00]respected and honoured in society the same way this woman were Fatima
[56:06]- zelada has said I'm that she have to compromise her her
[56:08]job in order to be respected no she did so whether a
[56:13]job with her modesty and chastity she was able to become sayyeda
[56:17]- Anissa in Hana mean min and away Nino in luxury she
[56:22]was able to become the leader of all of the women of
[56:24]the world so with that we end and we ask Allah subhana
[56:29]WA Ta'ala - to make us all from those who follow what
[56:36]Allah expects from us rather than what societies and others who are
[56:40]wrong expect from us well hamdulillahi rabbil alameen wa sallahu demanding why
[56:46]the hurry anyone has anything to add I know I told you
[57:00]guys I'll talk less but sometimes I get carried away yes sister
[57:06]is her job mandatory in Islam yes her job is mandatory and
[57:17]it's mandatory upon men and upon women however because men there's you
[57:22]know men and women are equal but they're not the same each
[57:28]one has their own type of hijab so a man has to
[57:30]dress accordingly there there's a dress code in Islam and also there's
[57:36]a dress code for a woman because the female she you know
[57:39]men and women are both beautiful they're both the creation of allah
[57:44]subhanaw taala however the beauty of female is more appearance the beauty
[57:48]of the female is more apparent and more out there and the
[57:52]the chances of a female being abused or assaulted as a result
[57:58]of her looks are also much higher than a man being abused
[58:00]or assaulted as a result of his looks so this is why
[58:05]the religion of Islam has made AB mandatory there are several verses
[58:08]in the Quran that talk about this there's a verse in the
[58:14]Quran that talks about how women were at the time of the
[58:17]Prophet they were practicing they were covering their head they were covering
[58:21]their head but the head job that they were wearing it would
[58:26]show their cleavage which it would it would keep you know a
[58:29]part and the top of their chest it would keep it open
[58:33]so Allah says in the and the verse that takes your hem
[58:36]on what you are already wearing and cover your cleavage with it
[58:42]cover your cover your body with it so the religion of some
[58:45]people they come and they say Allah doesn't say cover your head
[58:47]in the Quran therefore her job is not mandatory no Allah does
[58:52]say it because verse talks tomorrow these are all words of a
[58:58]job a job doesn't necessarily mean the head cover you know a
[59:01]lot of people they say a job is the head cover that's
[59:05]worn on the head no a job means a partition means a
[59:08]veil her job means anything that will come in between the skin
[59:15]and the body and other people so sometimes a job it could
[59:18]be a wall if a lady is not wearing her job and
[59:22]there's other there's a stranger she could go behind the wall she
[59:24]could go in her own room she doesn't need to wear the
[59:29]hijab Allah says that use the head job meaning use a partition
[59:31]use a barrier between men and women and there are certain things
[59:36]that a female needs to cover not everything for example scholars say
[59:41]a female's face is allowed to be shown her hands are allowed
[59:44]to be shown other than that the it needs to be covered
[59:49]for the sake of modesty for the sake of chastity yes anything
[59:58]else yeah okay yes sister alaikum Salam yes okay how can we
[60:16]reach our highest potential I believe that a loss of Hannah which
[60:22]Allah has created us all and given us all the gifts endowed
[60:26]us with gifts and endowed us with the tools that make us
[60:31]reach our highest potential Allah did not create me to live a
[60:36]miserable life Allah subhana Allah gave me gifts that he did not
[60:39]give any of his other creation Allah commands Anna fee absentee to
[60:46]Queen Allah says the in sand a human being is created in
[60:49]the best form possible Allah has given you the intellect lots of
[60:54]high note Allah has given you you know the gifts the the
[60:57]eyesight the nose the hearing the smelling the touch all of these
[61:02]senses these are all gifts that allah subhanaw taala has given you
[61:09]to empower you allah gave us these gifts he gave us all
[61:12]of these but allah subhanaw taala also gave us away a plan
[61:17]a system of life that will help us reach our highest potential
[61:20]without that system of plan without that system without that way of
[61:26]life which is the religion of Islam and the religions that Allah
[61:29]subhana Allah sent with prophets and messengers without these we end up
[61:34]oppressing one another we end up stealing from one another we end
[61:39]up abusing one another what does the religion of Islam expect from
[61:43]us you know Allah tells me to pray my prayer does a
[61:46]lot benefit from my prayer there's a lot benefit from your prayer
[61:50]can you can I hear it louder no of course not who
[61:56]benefits from my prayer we benefit from our prayer prayer makes our
[62:01]life organized prayer makes us you know know what our purpose is
[62:06]in life where did we come from where are we going it
[62:08]helps organize my life it helps put me structured that's how I
[62:14]benefit when I give charity there's a lot benefit from my charity
[62:17]o Allah does not need my money Allah says in the Quran
[62:23]and Allah who Aurora's up the luetin Mateen a lot does not
[62:25]need my money but Allah has made it obligatory upon me to
[62:30]give charity why because that is how I will think of other
[62:32]people that is how I will spend my money accordingly that is
[62:37]how I will do justice that is how I won't oppress people
[62:40]in society now how can we reach our highest potential we reach
[62:45]that by following all of the rules of allah subhanaw taala do
[62:50]allah has expected you to do because allah does not expect you
[62:53]to do anything that will end up hurting you say something say
[62:57]for example god wants me to do something that ends up hurting
[63:00]me is there some is there such a thing no everything that
[63:03]Allah has expected from us is for our own good we fasted
[63:07]the whole month of Ramadan some people they say you know why
[63:10]do I have to fast perspective from all aspects of life fasting
[63:23]is good for you so everything that we do when we follow
[63:29]the religion of Islam were actually reaching them slowly reaching our highest
[63:34]potential so do your logic do what allah subhanaw taala is expecting
[63:37]from you progeny of rasulallah salallahu alaihe rasulallah who was the perfect
[63:52]being rasulullah was not just successful in spurring a religion to us
[63:56]soon Allah was successful in every aspect of life when it comes
[63:59]to his family he was number one when it came to business
[64:04]transactions he was number one that's why I said each I fell
[64:06]in love with him because he was so good in you know
[64:10]business transactions when it came to being trustworthy when it came to
[64:13]being truthful he was on top everything that he did he was
[64:18]on top and this is why the Quran says that Canada comfy
[64:20]Rasool Allah s Watson Hasan and Rasulullah you have the best role
[64:25]model so you want to reach your highest potential instead of following
[64:29]and looking up to LeBron James look at what sort of lhasa
[64:32]Allah honey rather instead of looking at Kim Kardashian look at Fatima
[64:36]to Zara and Salaam look at these role models but our society
[64:40]you know the way we're thinking right now I see all many
[64:45]of you smiling because I said these names but that's how we
[64:48]are you know we probably think it's funny but the way we
[64:52]dress many women they would rather dress like Kim Kardashian than dressed
[64:56]like Fatima Cesaro a setup they would rather dress like these actors
[65:01]and actresses then these these you know role models that allah subhanaw
[65:06]taala has placed for us so the moment we start following the
[65:09]plan of Allah and following those who are allah subhanaw taala sent
[65:14]for us that is when we will reach our highest potential did
[65:18]that answer your question okay anyone else from the brothers we didn't
[65:25]hear anything yeah a lot of them you don't like LeBron James
[65:36]okay good I'm done yes sister the stance is you have to
[65:51]do a lots of high note Anna is expecting from you not
[65:53]what other whether they're Muslim or non-muslim as we mentioned earlier a
[65:59]lot of Muslims they do a lot of wrong and a lot
[66:00]of you know a lot of times for example you see some
[66:05]woman they come and they say I know I go and I
[66:09]tell this person you know I can't shake my hand or a
[66:10]man says I can't shake a hand with a lady but then
[66:13]this guy they tell me oh but this lady she's Muslim she
[66:16]shook my hand this person is Muslim he came and he gave
[66:19]me a hug so some Muslims break break the laws break the
[66:24]rules of allah subhanaw taala we have to do a loss of
[66:26]hanazad Xbox rules see there's two expectations from you Allah is expecting
[66:30]something from you and Society or people are expecting from you which
[66:37]is more important is it worth sacrificing and compromising what allah subhanaw
[66:42]taala and compromising the relationship with allah for the sake of people
[66:45]of course not however when it comes to the handshake at times
[66:50]very very very rarely and I said very three times very rarely
[66:54]there are certain exceptions when it comes to laws and not only
[67:01]the handshake when it comes to everything you know this is called
[67:04]the the the in the issue of you have no other option
[67:09]you have no other option it's a life or death situation or
[67:12]for example something severely wrong will happen in your life this is
[67:16]called Essaouira and Harwich and Allah subhanAllah does not want to burden
[67:21]us with something that we cannot tolerate so therefore sometimes there are
[67:26]certain exceptions to certain laws but you have to always ask yourself
[67:32]is this a life or death situation is this something that is
[67:35]you know is it that bad a lot of people you know
[67:39]they just want to go and give hugs they just want to
[67:41]go and shake hands so it's it's not as simple as that
[67:47]okay yes yes sister first I'll tell you what not to say
[68:02]don't say my hands are dirty because they'll just think that you're
[68:11]a dirty person said I think the the firt the most important
[68:14]thing is to tell them before they want to you know let
[68:19]them know before they come and they want to reach out like
[68:22]for example walk when you're ten feet away from them walk away
[68:25]with your hand on your heart or something you know so that
[68:29]they realize that this person is not planning on shaking shaking the
[68:31]hand or you have to do this you have to do you
[68:36]know whatever you want to do do something or you could right
[68:46]away explain to them tell them I'm she can you know but
[68:50]I'm greeting you this is the way I agree or something you
[68:52]know there are many ways now you could yes sister as long
[69:03]as you're polite as long as you're greeting them because what's the
[69:13]whole purpose of a handshake the whole purpose of an trick it's
[69:19]a greeting and yes so as long as you're greeting them as
[69:22]long as you're very polite then you're you could do that you
[69:24]know but get them before they feel embarrassed or sometimes you know
[69:30]some you're going to a job interview or something they want to
[69:33]shake your hands before you go let them know let them know
[69:35]for example I have this religious requirement I don't shake hands but
[69:40]it doesn't I don't mean any I don't mean to offend you
[69:42]or something let them know beforehand yes sister [Music] [Music] the good
[70:13]part keep your hands in your pocket for example or wear gloves
[70:30]if you had to you know where it gloves I've seen some
[70:34]people some scholars you know
