[1:14]if we ask some people what is religion to you what does
[1:22]it mean to be a muslim some they will answer if i
[1:30]pray i fast i go to hajj once in my lifetime i
[1:36]give my charity and i fulfill my day to day obligations that
[1:43]makes me a good muslim this is an answer however this is
[1:53]not the full answer what makes a person a true muslim is
[2:01]when we take all of the teachings of the religion of islam
[2:07]and the religion of islam doesn't just become a checklist of things
[2:13]that we have to do but it becomes a lifestyle it becomes
[2:18]a life of principles it becomes taking a stance in life making
[2:27]decisions based upon the satisfaction of allah subhanahu wa ta'ala constantly placing
[2:34]allah before our desires before anything other than allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
[2:43]and being a muslim means that we submit to the government of
[2:51]allah subhanahu wa ta'ala there's no escape from the government of allah
[3:00]there's no escape from the system that allah brought forth for us
[3:08]and it doesn't just mean that we accept it but it means
[3:14]that we have to embrace it and it means that we have
[3:18]to embrace all of the creation of allah embrace all of the
[3:25]beings of allah we have a beautiful hadith it says he who
[3:36]does not show appreciation and thanks to the created this person has
[3:42]not shown thanks and appreciation to the creator being a muslim means
[3:51]accepting the system of allah subhanahu wa ta'ala accepting what allah subhanahu
[3:59]wa ta'ala has destined for us and not looking down upon others
[4:07]because the moment we start questioning why does this happen to me
[4:14]or we begin to look down upon others that is the moment
[4:19]we have left iman and that is the moment we have taken
[4:24]a step away from faith and that is arrogance when a person
[4:32]is arrogant this person could acknowledge that he is created by god
[4:37]this person acknowledges that he or she is living in a system
[4:41]and allah is the lord maybe this person might be praying their
[4:46]whole lives they might be fasting they might be going to hajj
[4:50]they might be fulfilling their religious duties but they still have that
[4:55]arrogance that taqabbar in their hearts and you know that arrogance was
[5:00]the first sin ever committed the first crime the first sin ever
[5:06]committed against allah was the sin of arrogance who was it it
[5:12]was iblis iblis iblis was amongst the angels iblis is satan he
[5:20]was amongst the angels and he was a worshiper where the hadith
[5:25]says that he was worshiping in a way that the angels thought
[5:28]that he was one of them they didn't know the difference they
[5:32]couldn't tell the difference he used to worship so much until one
[5:41]day allah tells him do sujood to adam bow to adam that
[5:48]is the moment that his arrogance overcame him and he erased all
[5:54]of his good deeds all of the good that he has done
[5:59]in one hadith he says that one of the sajdah one prostration
[6:04]of iblees lasted for six thousand years six thousand years he had
[6:10]his head down bowing to allah subhanahu wa ta'ala but the moment
[6:15]allah subhanahu wa ta'ala asked them the moment allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
[6:20]asked them to bow to adam his arrogance overcame him he says
[6:26]you created me from fire and you created him from soil and
[6:35]fire is better than soil he made that judgment and he refused
[6:44]to bow to adam and he was kicked out of the mercy
[6:48]of allah because of that moment of arrogance now is a person
[7:00]who is a muslim a person who believes in allah does that
[7:03]mean that arrogance is right away taken away from their life that
[7:07]means this person is not arrogant no unfortunately see that arrogance and
[7:15]arrogance leads to racism and prejudice and intolerance of others it lasts
[7:21]until today and here in the united states where we are 2017
[7:29]we see that we are still and this country is still coping
[7:34]and dealing with this test that it's going through and not only
[7:37]this country you see all over the world many groups of people
[7:43]they are being tested through this the test of arrogance the test
[7:47]of racism and prejudice and pride where one group of people views
[7:53]themselves that they are better than all of the others why because
[7:59]of the color of their skin or because of their heritage because
[8:03]of their culture because of the country that they were born in
[8:07]because of the faith that they practice you see one group views
[8:11]themselves better than the others and then you see the hatred the
[8:17]discrimination the bigotry the xenophobia as a result of this and this
[8:22]is something that we are witnessing you don't need to you know
[8:26]all you do is turn on the tv and you hear about
[8:30]it it's very clear you hear about it and what's sad is
[8:35]that it's coming from the highest points of power in this country
[8:42]the highest positions of power are there's racism and prejudice and intolerance
[8:51]towards others coming from the highest points of power so where do
[8:55]you expect with the lowest people to do when the leader is
[8:59]portraying and and having this kind of hatred and racism towards others
[9:05]what do you expect from others what do you expect from the
[9:08]people who are being led who see that leader as a role
[9:12]model now is arrogance and racism something that's just going on right
[9:18]now no you see that perhaps all of the wars that have
[9:24]taken place on earth throughout history there is a they are a
[9:29]result of one group of people viewing themselves better than others what
[9:35]did what was the reason of world war two why did hitler
[9:41]he start persecuting a large group of people in his society because
[9:48]he viewed that he is the aryan race he is better than
[9:52]everyone else and then you keep going back to history why were
[9:56]millions of people millions of native americans killed on this land that
[10:03]we live on you know there were millions of people here before
[10:07]the white man came and took over there were millions of people
[10:11]that were living here they had lives here there was a genocide
[10:15]on the land that we're living on where millions of people they
[10:20]were killed and right now they are nowhere to be remembered you
[10:23]don't even see them in society they are the ones who happened
[10:27]to be here they were the original people who are from this
[10:30]land why were millions of people brought on ships they were tied
[10:36]and placed in ships and they were brought here to work as
[10:40]slaves isn't this doesn't this go back to arrogance doesn't this go
[10:45]back to racism and then you go to imperialism and colonialization and
[10:51]the empire building of europe where they colonized half of the world
[10:58]many big peace places of the world you see that that all
[11:06]goes back to the feeling of racism it all goes back when
[11:10]one group of people views themselves better than another group of people
[11:19]now what does the religion of islam say we go back to
[11:24]the quran we see that allah subhanahu wa ta'ala speaks to people
[11:30]in many forms sometimes allah says o muslims sometimes allah says believers
[11:37]sometimes allah says o woman o men and then you find that
[11:43]allah subhanahu wa ta'ala when speaking of the general rights of the
[11:47]human being allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says o people everyone is accepted
[11:55]everyone is every the quran it does not leave people out everyone
[12:02]is included but you find countries for example this country and their
[12:07]constitution this is for this group of people that that one this
[12:11]is for this group of people the people that practice this religion
[12:14]and that religion but allah subhanahu wa ta'ala being that he is
[12:18]the creator in the quran he speaks to everyone oh you people
[12:27]who believe have piety in your lord who created you from one
[12:32]nafs we all go back to one today the white the black
[12:37]the orange the the yellow all the colors we all go back
[12:44]to one you all go back to adam and adam is from
[13:02]soil why should i view myself better than another group of people
[13:06]why should someone else view another group view themselves that they are
[13:11]better than me when we all go back to one and from
[13:16]that soul allah subhanahu wa ta'ala created pairs and allah from those
[13:28]created men and women allah and the arham the ones who you
[13:46]share a womb with meaning the people who you go back to
[13:49]the same family tree with and we all today i might say
[13:55]have this family tree you have a family tree someone else has
[13:58]a family tree but ultimately we all go back to one tree
[14:01]we all go back to one father we all go back to
[14:04]one mother we shouldn't have a feeling of pride where i'm from
[14:10]this family what do you mean i'm from this family we all
[14:13]go back to one family we all have go back to one
[14:16]father and one mother now we see that during times when societies
[14:26]focus on differences and this is not something that we just see
[14:30]right now this is something that has been going on throughout history
[14:33]during the time of the prophet there were groups of people that
[14:37]were just focusing on differences this group is from quraysh this is
[14:42]from another tribe this is or even within quraysh one was from
[14:46]bani hashem another is from bani umayyah another from another group you
[14:51]see that certain the human nature what we like to do is
[14:55]we like to look at differences we don't look at things that
[14:59]we have in common is this the way allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
[15:03]looks at people no allah subhanahu wa ta'ala when he looks at
[15:08]people allah looks at the common denominator what we share in common
[15:14]and allah does not look at the differences being a point of
[15:18]a point of separation but rather the differences should be something that
[15:23]bring us together you have a talent this person has a talent
[15:28]you have something that person has something you come and you you
[15:32]come together to make yourself better to help yourself become a stronger
[15:37]person one of the reasons why the united states became such a
[15:41]successful nation is because it after all these suffering and after so
[15:47]much persecution and injustice it was willing to let go of the
[15:51]differences but until today we see that the roots of arrogance and
[15:57]pride and racism are still there but we find that the majority
[16:01]of the people they are willing to put that behind them and
[16:04]focus on what we have in common and this is what allah
[16:08]tells us to look at for what so that you get to
[16:22]know one another so that you interact with one another not so
[16:26]that you sit in a box and you sit in a group
[16:29]of people and you build a wall and you say we're going
[16:32]to have this group of people here and that group of people
[16:34]there and we're not going to interact what is this is this
[16:39]the way allah subhanahu wa ta'ala created for us to be no
[16:43]allah subhanahu wa ta'ala created this world and this universe with resources
[16:49]for what just so one group of people they come and they
[16:53]take all of the resources and they say there it's theirs no
[16:58]these resources everything the oil the air the water everything it's to
[17:06]be shared this is allah subhanahu wa ta'ala created it for everyone
[17:10]allah did not choose one group of people that they are favored
[17:14]and they are blessed they are chosen and they are entitled to
[17:18]everything while millions of people don't have food to eat they don't
[17:22]have medicine to eat and this is what's going on today this
[17:25]is the injustice that we see today we hear some people coming
[17:29]and saying we don't need religion anymore we don't need god anymore
[17:33]take god out of the equation we have modernized and when you
[17:38]are modern when you live in a modern society religion is a
[17:41]part of the past well guess what if we are modern why
[17:46]are there millions of people dying out of hunger why are there
[17:50]millions of people that don't even have the nutrition and the food
[17:56]to give their children is this modernity is this what modernity has
[18:03]brought for us this is not modernity if half of the people
[18:06]or 90 over 90% of the population is suffering and just 10%
[18:12]or 1% they have all of the wealth this is not modernity
[18:17]no this is oppression and this is what the religion of islam
[18:21]stood against because allah teaches us the logic of viewing differences as
[18:29]a positive thing rather than viewing it as a negative thing in
[18:32]fact it's one of the signs of allah allah says allah says
[18:52]one of these signs of allah you know allah many times he
[18:55]says from the signs of allah he created the sun and the
[18:58]universe and the solar system these are signs of allah these are
[19:02]miracles of allah but you know what else is a miracle of
[19:05]allah it's you and i we are miracles of allah and our
[19:10]differences that is one of the miracles of allah imagine if we
[19:14]all look the same if we all have the same nose the
[19:16]same eyes the same hair we all were exactly the same wouldn't
[19:21]that be such a boring life if we all were like robots
[19:26]we're all exactly the same this is the beauty of allah the
[19:32]beauty of the creation of allah where everything is different you don't
[19:36]find two people two people you don't find them identical exactly a
[19:42]100% identical to one another isn't this a miracle of allah isn't
[19:47]this a sign of the creation of allah subhanahu wa ta'ala so
[19:52]this is the sign of allah our differences they are one of
[19:57]the signs of allah the skies and the earth these are the
[20:04]signs of allah also the tongue the language we don't all speak
[20:12]one language this is a good thing this is a sign of
[20:18]allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and your colors this all of this is
[20:28]signs if you ponder if you think then you will know that
[20:33]this is the sign of allah subhanahu wa ta'ala now we know
[20:38]that this is the system of allah and we muslims we have
[20:42]accepted that system but let's ask ourselves is there racism and bigotry
[20:48]and intolerance within the muslim community yes just because we have assumed
[20:57]the religion of islam and we said the shahada and we come
[20:59]to the masjid and pray does that mean that we have removed
[21:03]the bigotry and hatred and racism from our hearts no and this
[21:09]is what it means to be a real muslim being a real
[21:13]muslim is the day i purify my heart where i have no
[21:17]hatred in my heart if i'm a mu'min i should not have
[21:27]hatred for the mu'mineen and not only the mu'mineen for people for
[21:33]the race the creation of allah i was mentioning earlier between the
[21:38]salah where imam zain al abideen he was willing to teach his
[21:42]enemies how to seek forgiveness now the imams of the al bayt
[21:49]they were willing to teach their enemies the ones who persecuted them
[21:52]and killed them how to get closer to allah how to be
[21:56]saved in the afterlife why is it that i look at someone
[22:00]just because of the color of their skin because of their language
[22:03]because of the dialect that they have because of the country that
[22:06]they were born in i look at this person as if i'm
[22:09]better than this person what have i done that makes me better
[22:12]than this person even if i pray all of my days and
[22:17]my nights and i fast and i go to hajj but if
[22:21]i still have that feeling in my heart that i am better
[22:24]than that person then know that my prayer has not done anything
[22:27]to me it has not made me a better person if i
[22:31]have that feeling that i am better than this person or i
[22:34]look down upon a person because of the color of their skin
[22:37]or their language or the country of their origin let me pray
[22:40]my whole life it's not going to help me this prayer it's
[22:44]not going to take you anywhere so we have to take all
[22:51]of this negative feelings out of our hearts but unfortunately we find
[22:57]it that even within the religious communities and sometimes you find it
[23:02]within the most religious communities you find this masjid belongs to this
[23:08]group of people this masjid is for this group of people where
[23:13]do we have that in the quran did rasulullah come and say
[23:16]this mosque is for this group and this mosque is for that
[23:18]group no mosques belong to who they belong to allah i can't
[23:32]say this is the mosque for this group this is the mosque
[23:35]for the other group now i know we do have that for
[23:39]example you go to communities sometimes because of language barrier there's nothing
[23:44]wrong with that but if it if it if that is traced
[23:48]and it goes back to arrogance where no this group is not
[23:52]allowed here and that group is not allowed here then know that
[23:56]their prayers are not going to be accepted in that mosque because
[24:00]what's the point of prayer what's the point of fasting what's the
[24:04]point of worship is worship our goal no worship is not our
[24:09]goal worship is the means worship is a tool it's the vehicle
[24:14]that brings us to taqwa it's the vehicle that brings us closer
[24:17]to allah worship is not the goal worship is the vehicle that
[24:23]takes us to allah subhanahu wa ta'ala so let me pray as
[24:27]long as much as i want but if my prayer is not
[24:30]making me become a better person then what's going to be the
[24:34]difference with my prayer and the prayer of the ones who killed
[24:36]imam al hussain the day of ashura they were praying as well
[24:40]the enemies of the ahlul bayt but they also went and they
[24:44]killed the family of the prophet this is why we have hadith
[24:51]narrations from rasulullah he says he says he who has a mustard
[25:08]seed of arrogance and prejudice and racism allah subhanahu wa ta'ala will
[25:16]resurrect this person with who with the arabs of the jahiliyah the
[25:20]pagans before islam because that's what the pagans were the pagans they
[25:26]said we are arabs we are better than this group of people
[25:29]we are from this clan we are from this tribe we are
[25:33]better than the other tribe and they would go and have raids
[25:36]and kill others and carry out violent crimes just because this person
[25:41]happened to be from a different regional location or a different tribe
[25:48]in another hadith rasulullah says if you have prejudice and racism then
[26:03]during that moment you are separated from iman you're a mumin but
[26:08]if you are carrying out a feeling of racism and you practice
[26:15]it and you say something because we can't control our feelings this
[26:20]is something that allah is not going to hold you accountable for
[26:23]but the moment we start displaying it the moment we start acting
[26:29]upon it it becomes very dangerous one day one of the wives
[26:34]of the prophet a lady she passed all she did was the
[26:40]lady was short all she did with her hand was like this
[26:45]she's short rasulullah told her you lost all your tawab so it's
[26:51]very dangerous it's very dangerous this is why it's better to take
[26:56]those feelings those negative feelings out of our hearts because if we
[26:59]have that negative feeling it's going to be with a small glance
[27:03]maybe you see someone you smile smile making fun of that person
[27:08]or you look at a person in a different way one day
[27:11]also one of the companion in the in the masjid of the
[27:15]prophet a poor man he came and he wanted to sit there
[27:18]was a rich man he came and he gathered his clothes when
[27:22]the other person came next to him you know sometimes we do
[27:25]this without realizing if i'm sitting somewhere and i see someone who
[27:30]looks poor someone who doesn't look like they have it all what
[27:34]do we do when that person comes and sits next to us
[27:37]we want to be private we don't want that person touching us
[27:41]as if the poverty of that person is going to transfer to
[27:44]me as if the race of that person the color of that
[27:47]person is going to transfer over to me one of the companions
[27:50]did this the prophet right away while he was giving a lecture
[27:55]in the masjid he told him what you are doing is wrong
[27:59]that companion that person who did that he said i'm willing to
[28:05]give half of my money to this person ibn abi maktum he
[28:09]says i'm willing to give half of my money to this person
[28:14]that poor person he said you rasulullah i don't want his money
[28:18]i don't want his money if money is going to make me
[28:22]become like that then i don't want his money so we have
[28:28]to cleanse our hearts and this is what the religion of islam
[28:32]came with this is the prime message of islam a message of
[28:37]purification a message where we purify our actions and purify our hearts
[28:42]more importantly now is there a problem some people ask if i'm
[28:50]not allowed to have an ounce a mustard seed of asabi'ah does
[28:55]that mean that i say i'm from this country i'm from this
[28:58]group of people does that mean that i should not have national
[29:01]pride this question was asked to imam zain al abideen the imam
[29:17]they told him what is prejudice and racism he says he says
[29:35]the prejudice and racism that allah will punish someone for is when
[29:40]you view your people the people from your country from your village
[29:44]from your nationality but they're not good they're not fit for the
[29:48]job you favor them over people from a different nationality but they
[29:54]are fit for the job this is wrong for example i come
[30:00]and i vote for someone who is just from my country from
[30:05]my nation from my city i vote for this person that's the
[30:09]only reason i voted for this person not because he is better
[30:13]maybe there's someone that's better than this person but i come and
[30:15]i favor that person this is and this is haram however then
[30:20]the imam he continues he says so it's not and prejudice to
[30:33]say i like my nation my nationality my group of people but
[30:36]it's haram to help them in oppression where i favor someone just
[30:41]because he happens to be from my from my city from my
[30:44]community i favor this person even though this person is not fit
[30:48]for the job i favor him or her over someone else this
[30:52]is haram and this is something that the religion of islam stands
[30:57]against and we see that rasulullah he managed to he managed to
[31:06]stop this go and look at the companions of the prophet he
[31:11]had abu dharr al ghafari he had salman al pharisee he had
[31:16]bilal al habashi he had people from all over he had the
[31:22]coptic mari al qatiyah he had from rome he had people suhaybar
[31:29]rumi he had people from all over they were gathered in the
[31:34]mosque of rasulullah and he managed to remove that nationalism and this
[31:39]is one of the reasons why the religion of islam is the
[31:43]one of the most if not the most successful and fastest growing
[31:47]religion despite all of the negative negative you know advertisement negative agendas
[31:55]against the religion of islam and government spending millions of dollars you
[31:59]know there's a islamophobia industry spending millions of dollars each year against
[32:05]the religion of islam despite all of that you see each day
[32:10]the religion of islam continues to grow why because the religion of
[32:14]islam it's not contained by national or racial boundaries it's not contained
[32:21]by borders just a few days ago was reading in china in
[32:27]china there are over 20,000,000 muslims more than many of the arab
[32:33]countries and by the way is islam a religion for the arabs
[32:39]no in fact the arabs they are the minority muslims they are
[32:44]a minority amongst the muslims arabs the majority of the muslims are
[32:49]not even arabs the most populated muslim country today is indonesia with
[32:55]over 200,000,000 muslims muslims speak all languages they come from all races
[33:03]all backgrounds it's not confined to one group of people and this
[33:06]is a misconception today that islam is for arabs no it's not
[33:09]for arabs islam is for everyone islam is for humanity and you
[33:15]find that many of the non arabs they accepted islam better than
[33:19]some of the arabs so there are no racial boundaries in the
[33:26]religion of islam and this is what rasulullah did and stood for
[33:31]but until just like today we see that it is a point
[33:35]of challenge that racism and bigotry and prejudice they create challenges for
[33:41]our communities whether muslim or non muslim you find that even during
[33:45]the time of rasulullah the community of rasulullah dealt with these challenges
[33:53]rasulullah he comes and he brings bilal bilal who was from abyssinia
[34:00]he makes bilal be the spokesperson of islam how who's the spokesperson
[34:05]of islam the person who any newcomer they come they hear the
[34:10]voice of bilal performing the adhan the day rasulullah conquered mecca bilal
[34:17]he went and he stood on the kaaba and he began to
[34:21]perform the adhan some of the arabs some of those arabs who
[34:26]were full of arrogance full of prejudice they began to speak to
[34:33]one another one of them he says to the other he says
[34:37]thank god my father died and did not live to see the
[34:41]day this crow he stands on the kaaba referring to bilal but
[34:46]rasulullah did not tolerate that rasulullah kept bilal performing the adhan until
[34:52]rasulullah passed away the bilal was the official and the only muadhan
[34:56]of rasulullah a man who had black skin and he was a
[35:02]slave a freed slave and his arabic was not even eloquent when
[35:08]he used to say instead of saying he used to say they
[35:14]came and they told rasulullah he tells them allah knows exactly what's
[35:21]in the heart of bilal you don't need to come and tell
[35:23]me and complain about the accent of bilal my dear brothers and
[35:29]sisters this is the islam that we have to portray to the
[35:32]world today but arrogance it's resulted by prejudice and racism is a
[35:40]result of arrogance and pride when one group of people view themselves
[35:45]better than another and also ignorance it's fueled by ignorance arrogance and
[35:52]ignorance ignorance it fuels islamophobia and the anti muslim sentiments today we
[36:03]need to show the world and we need to show the world
[36:07]through our actions through our that i have a non muslim muslims
[36:13]and non muslims we should remove all of the prejudice and intolerance
[36:19]towards others from our hearts but you see that it continues to
[36:23]be a challenge in our communities today and during the time of
[36:27]rasulullah after the death of rasulullah the caliphs that came after the
[36:35]prophet you see that they went back to that institutionalized racism and
[36:41]prejudice the caliphs that came after the prophet they started giving the
[36:46]arabs a higher salary than the ajams than the non arabs until
[36:52]amir al mu'mineen came the power came to amir al mu'mineen the
[36:57]official khalafa came to amir al mu'mineen it is narrated that one
[37:01]day a lady they were standing in line to receive their weekly
[37:06]or monthly salary from bayt al mal from the muslim treasury so
[37:11]emir al mumineen gave a lady then she came back she tells
[37:15]him oh amir al mu'minin you gave you made a mistake there
[37:18]was an error he tells her what was the error she tells
[37:23]him you gave me the same amount that you gave this non
[37:26]arab lady this ajami lady there was a mistake because the she
[37:31]she tells him this is a mistake because the ones before amir
[37:34]al mumineen the caliphs before amir al mumineen they would differentiate they
[37:39]would differentiate between the arab and the non arab and historians say
[37:45]that one of the reasons the second caliph was killed was because
[37:50]of racism because a non arab man was upset that he was
[37:55]mistreating them he came and he killed him amir al mu'mineen he
[38:01]came and he tells this lady tells her i read the quran
[38:05]i didn't see anywhere in the quran where it says that an
[38:08]arab is better than a non arab i saw that you are
[38:13]all the same you all go back to the soil and there's
[38:18]no difference between an arab or a non arab and we see
[38:25]that the ahlul bayt when it came to their lives there was
[38:31]no discrimination whatsoever so if they didn't discriminate why am i discriminating
[38:37]you know sometimes even when it comes to our giving when it
[38:40]comes to our charity we say no no no i'm only going
[38:43]to give my own people i'm only going to give people from
[38:46]my nationality go back to the al bayt don't we claim to
[38:50]follow the al bayt they gave to a poor person did they
[39:01]ask him what's your nationality do you have a green card or
[39:04]not do you have a citizenship or not what's your color an
[39:09]orphan and a war prisoner who probably most likely is from a
[39:15]different nationality different a different group of people but they they gave
[39:20]why is it today that when i want to give i come
[39:22]and i say no no no let me only give my own
[39:24]people is this what islam taught us is this what the ahlul
[39:28]bayt taught us but we see the ahlul bayt the ones who
[39:34]removed the intolerance and racism and bigotry from societies you see that
[39:40]they were subjected to that bigotry and that intolerance and that hatred
[39:49]abdullah ibn abbas the cousin of the prophet and the cousin of
[39:54]amir al mu'mineen this man he is a renowned scholar and he
[39:58]is accepted by the sunnis and the shias abdullah ibn abbas he
[40:03]came and he asked the second khalifa omar he tells him why
[40:11]did you not choose ali what was wrong with ali did he
[40:16]lack faith was he late to join the religion of islam was
[40:21]he did he lack the jihad and the sacrifice no ali he's
[40:27]on top for joining the religion of islam he was number one
[40:31]in the battles he was number one in knowledge he is the
[40:35]number one all of the companions they go back to the knowledge
[40:38]of amir al mu'mineen we have many narrations where they would go
[40:41]back in the ibadah he was number one so why did you
[40:47]not accept ali ibn abi talib why did you leave him in
[40:49]his home for thirty years he came and he told him why
[40:55]did you not choose ali he replies with an answer that depicts
[41:01]the reality that is prevalent in muslim communities and unfortunately until today
[41:09]until today you see that hatred is alive he tells him he
[41:23]says did not want bani hashem the clan of hashem to have
[41:29]prophethood and imamah and khilafa both be from the same tribe bani
[41:34]hashem and then they're going to become arrogant and they're going to
[41:38]have pride over all of the other quraysh what does this show
[41:42]this shows that allah chooses one thing and quraysh they say we
[41:46]want one thing else and because of their arrogance and because of
[41:50]their prejudice they turned against amir al mumineen and they left amir
[41:55]al mu'mineen and they did not accept amir al mu'mineen even though
[42:00]he was more fit and he was qualified he was the only
[42:03]one who was qualified to lead the ummah after rasulullah no one
[42:07]was qualified you go and you read the books the sunni books
[42:12]the books of the muslims you see that the khalafa that assumed
[42:16]the position they would sit on the mambar and they would say
[42:20]i am the least worthy of sitting here i don't have the
[42:24]knowledge they would ask the congregation we have many narrations they would
[42:29]come and they would ask the muslims explain to me this verse
[42:32]when did this verse come down the only one who did not
[42:37]ask his congregation and he had the knowledge because he was given
[42:40]that knowledge from rasulullah was amir al mu'mineen and he stands on
[42:45]the member and he says he says ask me before you lose
[42:55]me he was the only one who said that but they left
[43:00]him in his home and being that we are still in the
[43:06]days of fatima we remember fatima who the family of the prophet
[43:14]and until today you see the followers of the al bayt we
[43:19]are subjected to harassment and abuse and prejudice why because of the
[43:27]bigotry it goes back to bigotry and hatred today you go and
[43:31]you stand in some of the biggest muslim mosques in the world
[43:35]you hear the imam and the friday prayer where he's supposed to
[43:39]unite all of the muslims he comes and he says the shia
[43:43]are non arabs what is he trying to say he's trying to
[43:48]say that the shia are not muslim they are persian they are
[43:52]majus they are zoroastrians and they are non arabs first of all
[43:56]the majority of the muslims are non arabs being arab does not
[44:00]define whether you're muslim or non muslim and then you go and
[44:05]you look at the scholars of the sunni school of thought today
[44:12]the major heads of the sunni school of thought were they arab
[44:16]or non arab non arab bukhari he's from bukhara uzbekistan muslim is
[44:25]from nayshabur abu hanifa zuti he's not arab abu dawud from sistan
[44:31]at tirmidhi is persian nisa'i from turkmenistan ibn majah from kazween they're
[44:38]not arabs so why come and accuse the shia of being non
[44:44]arabs no there's no there's no there's no preference it doesn't matter
[44:51]if you're arab or non arab in the eyes of allah but
[44:59]however you see that sometimes when the hearts are blinded that is
[45:05]much worse than when the eyes are blinded it's the hearts that
[45:18]are blinded sometimes that cannot see the reality and this is what
[45:23]happened with the ummah immediately after the death of rasulullah where they
[45:33]turned against the family of rasulullah and one of the first victims
[45:42]of that terror that is alive until today was the very own
[45:48]daughter of fatima the daughter of the prophet who rasulullah for six
[45:56]months in narration and another narration for nine months he used to
[46:01]go in front of the muslims and he used to stand at
[46:04]the door of fatima and he used to say and then he
[46:16]would tell the muslims all muslims i'm leaving behind my family take
[46:26]care of my family in fact it wasn't just the prophet it
[46:30]was the quran that ordered the prophet i don't expect anything except
[46:40]showed love to my family days before his death he sands i'm
[46:52]leaving behind the book of allah and my family respect them honor
[46:57]them take care of them but you see that days after the
[47:03]death of the prophet fatima the daughter of the prophet was subjected
[47:09]to the harassment and the pain and the agony until she died
[47:16]she died and the imam he says she was a martyr how
[47:24]is it that a very young daughter according to the shia hadith
[47:29]fatima was 18 years old the day she passed away the other
[47:33]hadith says she was 28 years old now what's the difference 18
[47:37]or 28 still very young amir al mumineen he had to carry
[47:44]her and place her in the grave his very own beloved wife
[47:51]imam al hassan imam al hussein zaynab uncle thoom became orphans at
[47:56]such a young age why why did the ummah turn against the
[48:03]family of rasulullah in such a way narration say that amir al
[48:09]mu'mineen he and a handful of the muslims they gathered and they
[48:16]prayed and they led the janazah prayer in the middle of the
[48:20]night everyone when they want when they die they want people to
[48:24]attend their funeral they want people to pray the janaza prayer but
[48:29]fatima she says bury me at night so that these oppressors do
[48:34]not see where i'm do not participate and do not see where
[48:38]i'm buried and until today you go to medina you ask where's
[48:43]the grave of this person that person they'll tell you but then
[48:46]you ask them where's the grave of fatima the daughter of the
[48:49]prophet there's no answer there's no answer that answers with the imam
[48:56]of our time amir al mu'mineen he stood over that grave he
[49:01]buried fatima and then the narration says that after he buried fatima
[49:11]his emotions overcame him that man who is described as the man
[49:17]of patience he is described as a man of patience but you
[49:22]see that that moment amir al mumminin could not control himself he
[49:27]has lost his beloved wife at that young age he began to
[49:33]recite
