[0:06]i begin in the name of the almighty god the compassionate the
[0:13]merciful the one who has created everything in utmost perfection and may
[0:18]the peace and blessings of the almighty god be upon his pure
[0:22]and beloved messenger the peak of his creation the symbol of humanity
[0:28]the holy upon them especially the leader of our time the awaited
[0:45]savior al-imam may allah hasten his reappearance and make us all amongst
[0:54]the sincere and dedicated servants allah subhanahu wa ta'ala [Music] and verses
[1:02]30 to 31 bismillah father in these two blessed verses allah subhanahu
[1:29]wa ta'ala commands believing men and believing women to lower their gaze
[1:38]and to guard their chastity for this brings them to purity and
[1:43]allah is aware of their actions illuminate your hearts and minds with
[1:54]a loud salawat allah the main purpose of fasting in the month
[2:01]of ramadan is to train every body part to fast with you
[2:07]to train your eyes too fast by controlling what you see to
[2:13]train your ears to avoid hearing that which is haram to train
[2:19]your tongue to avoid saying that which is inappropriate or haram to
[2:25]control everybody part from doing that which is immoral or inappropriate that
[2:31]is the philosophy behind fasting fasting is not just to avoid food
[2:38]and water and the other prohibited things during fasting the main purpose
[2:44]of fasting is to achieve piety to train everybody part to worship
[2:50]allah subhanahu and to be in the obedience of allah now one
[2:53]of the greatest challenges that we have as believers is to control
[2:58]our eyes we live in a society in an era in which
[3:03]we are bombarded with all these different types of messages types of
[3:07]images that are indecent inappropriate immoral this is one of the greatest
[3:15]challenges that we go through as believers to control what our eyes
[3:22]see it is not an easy task to control what you see
[3:24]and society today tells you be free watch anything that you like
[3:31]right you think when our kids go to school they tell them
[3:34]you have to be careful what you see on tik tok what
[3:38]you see on social media not really go you have an account
[3:40]on tick tock go and see whatever you want you have an
[3:44]instagram account go and see whatever you want we live in a
[3:49]society that does not really train us to avoid that which is
[3:56]an inappropriate to avoid scenes that are indecent and this is becoming
[4:00]one of the problems of our era more and more people are
[4:08]addicted to viewing inappropriate content look at the statistics 40 million americans
[4:15]adults that's more than 10 percent of the population regularly view inappropriate
[4:22]content they are addicted to inappropriate content and this just as it
[4:28]affects men it also affects women yes it does affect men more
[4:31]men struggle more with this addiction than women but this affects them
[4:38]all in fact some studies have shown that 17 of all women
[4:43]they struggle with addiction when it comes to viewing inappropriate content at
[4:48]work 20 percent of men waste time viewing inappropriate content whereas 13
[4:53]percent of women struggle with this addiction at work and according to
[5:00]some studies 47 percent of american us households they struggle with family
[5:06]members who regularly view an appropriate content and this is taking a
[5:12]toll thirty five percent of all internet downloads is used for corruption
[5:17]for immorality for inappropriate content it's one of the struggles that people
[5:24]are experiencing today and the best time to reflect on this and
[5:30]to come up with a solution and to deal with these struggles
[5:36]is the beautiful month of someone may ask what's the harm some
[5:40]people ask me by the way say it what's the harm i'm
[5:44]not hitting anyone i'm not killing anyone i'm not bothering anyone who
[5:48]cares what i see who am i hurting if i see something
[5:53]that you call inappropriate so what i'm not bothering anyone you've you've
[5:56]heard this attitude right even when it comes to listening to music
[6:00]i see many youth coming up to me and telling me say
[6:03]you what's the harm it's not like i'm killing somebody if i
[6:06]listen to music i'm not bothering somebody i'm not cheating on someone
[6:11]i'm not lying to someone what's the harm we have this attitude
[6:17]but when you examine the harms based on research and statistics you
[6:24]will realize why allah subhanahu ta'ala wants us to protect the eyes
[6:27]from seeing that which is haram this organ that allah subhanahu ta'ala
[6:32]has given you is a very powerful important organ you explore the
[6:37]world through it but it comes with a responsibility so why do
[6:41]i need to control what my eyes see i will share with
[6:45]you the reasons number one my dear brothers and sisters we do
[6:52]not own our eyes we live in a society in which we
[6:54]feel entitled to everything we own everything that we can get our
[6:59]hands on your body is not owned by you your eyes are
[7:02]not owned by you your tongue is not owned by you you're
[7:06]borrowing it it's not yours you can only fully claim ownership over
[7:12]something if you created it if you made it if you had
[7:16]created your body fine i'll give that to you it's your body
[7:21]you can do whatever you want with it but you did not
[7:25]create your bodies no human being created his or her body allah
[7:27]is the one who created our bodies we must use our body
[7:33]every day and every minute and every second according to his path
[7:39]otherwise if you don't use your body in accordance with the law
[7:44]of god that is an act of theft i'm not being dramatic
[7:49]here this is the reality if you take someone's belonging without their
[7:52]permission if i go and take something that belongs to you without
[7:56]your permission what do you call that it's an act of theft
[8:00]that's stealing right if you use anything without the authorization from the
[8:08]owner that is an act of theft using my body in a
[8:11]way that allah has not made lawful for me it's an act
[8:15]of theft don't say what's the harm it's a big violation you're
[8:18]stealing you're committing theft because you're using this body in a way
[8:23]that the owner has not authorized you to realize that your eyes
[8:37]have a right over you you must protect your eyes from seeing
[8:44]that which is haram you don't have the right to use your
[8:48]eyes in that way you're abusing your eyes when you see something
[8:55]haram only use it that imam teaches us in something that gives
[8:59]you in something that's beneficial something that's beneficial that's good pursue it
[9:04]allah has authorized you but anything that's haram allah has not authorized
[9:08]you so this is something very important that we need to remind
[9:11]ourselves every day believe me we don't get it we don't get
[9:16]this point we really feel we can do whatever we want with
[9:19]our bodies that's not the case allah has not authorized you to
[9:26]look at something that's haram or to showcase your body in a
[9:28]haram way today we have a problem on social media even people
[9:32]who are otherwise practicing muslims we get sucked up into this negative
[9:38]culture of trying to display our beauty and display our bodies on
[9:45]social media allah has not authorized us do i have an answer
[9:49]my dear brothers and sisters do i have an answer on the
[9:53]day of judgment i know the attitude today is don't judge me
[9:56]don't talk about that i'm free to do whatever i want who
[10:01]am i harming imagine imagine you're not harming anyone which isn't the
[10:05]case by the way but imagine that's true let's say you were
[10:08]not harming anyone on the day of judgment if you stand before
[10:12]allah and allah says that body did you create it you're going
[10:17]to say no did you own it no you used it without
[10:21]my authorization what are you going to respond to allah on the
[10:24]day of judgment if you have an answer fine if you really
[10:27]think you have an answer between you and your lord fine go
[10:31]do whatever you want but remember there is a day of judgment
[10:33]he will question you and if you don't have a valid justification
[10:40]you will be held accountable for theft for stealing you used your
[10:44]my the body that i created without my authorization this is something
[10:48]that we need to reflect on especially in the month of ramadan
[10:51]so even if you're not harming anyone by seeing anything you must
[10:56]make sure that it's in line with the laws of allah subhanahu
[11:01]ta'ala but now let's discuss the harms what's the harms in seeing
[11:05]inappropriate content this is based on research my dear brothers and sisters
[11:11]number one being exposed to indecent scenes to inappropriate content especially when
[11:18]it develops into an addiction it has been proven by scientific research
[11:23]to lower your self-esteem and to increase rates of depression especially amongst
[11:32]younger adults especially the teenagers the more they are addicted to seeing
[11:37]that which is haram the more they struggle with their mental health
[11:41]the lower their self-esteem will become and the more they will be
[11:45]depressed and they and the more they'll feel lonely it's impacting our
[11:49]mental health so those who say who am i harming you're harming
[11:53]yourself you're harming your mental health you're harming your psychology by exposing
[12:00]yourself to indecency you are harming yourself and this is backed up
[12:04]by science this is backed up by research it does ruin our
[12:10]mental health to be addicted to inappropriate content that's the first harm
[12:15]the second harm it affects our relationships people who are married let's
[12:21]see you're in a halal relationship viewing inappropriate content makes you less
[12:28]satisfied with your relationship mess makes you less interested in your relationship
[12:33]it takes a toll on you that's why 66 percent of all
[12:39]divorce cases here in the united states 66 percent that's two-thirds the
[12:43]majority 66 of all divorce cases in the u.s they involve one
[12:50]of the partners who is addicted to viewing inappropriate content or who
[12:55]regularly views inappropriate content it's ending marriages it's ruining lives so don't
[13:01]say no this is not harming me it's harming you mentally and
[13:06]psychologically it's harming your family as well number three it makes many
[13:13]people lose productivity many people when they fall into these types of
[13:17]addictions or any addiction for that matter you know how much lost
[13:20]productivity that is people are supposed to go to work eight hours
[13:25]and millions of people spend an hour or two viewing inappropriate content
[13:31]how many lost hours do you have hundreds of millions of lost
[13:35]hours hundreds of millions of lost hours every day of time that
[13:40]you could have used productively to better yourself and better your society
[13:45]and better the planet this was just completely wasted that's harming your
[13:50]society that's harming your economy so this actually does present harm there
[13:57]are many harms associated with viewing inappropriate content and then my dear
[14:04]brothers and sisters you have the spiritual harm aside from the mental
[14:09]and the psychological and the financial and the familial harms you also
[14:16]have the spiritual harm in one hadith he tells his companion this
[14:25]is what jesus son of mary said to his companions he told
[14:31]them beware beware of the look don't underestimate it another hadith states
[14:43]that gaze that look is a poisonous arrow from the arrows of
[14:49]iblis don't underestimate it spiritually it can wreck your deen so jesus
[14:56]son of mary alaihis-salam he said to his companions you know what
[15:06]the look does it creates a negative evil desire in your heart
[15:15]and once you have nurtured a tree of desire in your heart
[15:22]you're gone it's enough of a fitna for you to have a
[15:28]tree of desire in your heart now how did that tree end
[15:35]up there through the look through the gaze through your eyes and
[15:41]then isa alaihissalam states in this beautiful hadith success heaven is for
[15:57]those who place their vision and their hearts not in their eyes
[16:00]because the heart also sees you know you have a vision your
[16:05]outlook on life your vision of life make your vision always in
[16:13]your heart always see with your heart think first and then act
[16:16]never put your vision in your eyes because the eyes lead you
[16:23]left and right the eyes expose you to everything that which is
[16:28]beneficial and that which is harmful but it's the true spiritual heart
[16:31]that can protect you from that so this does come with harms
[16:36]and then my dear brothers and sisters we also should not forget
[16:41]the punishment for seeing that which is haram on the day of
[16:46]judgment we have to speak about that too the hadith from rasulallah
[16:58]the one who fills his eyes with haram there are consequences allah
[17:05]will fill his eyes with fire on the day of judgment these
[17:10]are not my words don't say say it you're being harsh with
[17:14]us these are the words of the prophet and i will be
[17:16]dishonest if i hide these hadiths from you these are the words
[17:20]of the messenger of god but then the prophet says yes this
[17:27]is the month of repentance if you repent if you stop the
[17:32]prophet says that doesn't include you allah forgives you but if you
[17:35]die without this repentance you die with an evil habit you'll be
[17:39]held accountable for it don't say i can't stop it you can
[17:43]stop it your willpower is stronger than you think and then in
[17:50]another hadith the messenger of allah states the anger of allah is
[18:04]intensified with a woman who's married and she fills her eyes with
[18:07]other than her husband especially if she's married the responsibility now is
[18:12]greater and then when you look at the statistics it shows you
[18:17]that even married people they struggle with this so we have to
[18:22]think of the consequences of these actions you think this is giving
[18:27]you joy it does not give you joy it ruins your mental
[18:29]health momentarily you feel pleasure but then after that your mental health
[18:38]suffers after that spiritually you feel miserable this does not help you
[18:42]and then we have the beautiful hadith that states how many short
[18:51]looks are there that create such a long feeling of remorse and
[18:59]hasra and longing does not make you feel better so we have
[19:02]to be aware of these consequences my dear brothers and sisters what's
[19:04]the solution what do we do we live in an era where
[19:09]this is inevitable everywhere you go you're bombarded sometimes you have pure
[19:13]intentions you're working online you're just doing your thing this ad pops
[19:18]up right and this ad comes and this message attacks you what
[19:22]do you do in this era when we are exposed to inappropriate
[19:27]scenes you watch a normal movie these days that has inappropriate scenes
[19:31]at your you're surrounded with it you're bombarded with it you watch
[19:36]a sports game you watch the super bowl all they can fit
[19:40]in decency in those few minutes during the ads we're surrounded by
[19:45]this what's the solution what do we do number one my dear
[19:49]brothers and sisters here's a practical step for anyone who struggles with
[19:55]this keep yourself as busy as you can the reason why we
[19:59]resort to many of these negative habits is because we have too
[20:02]much free time on our hands keep yourself busy to the point
[20:09]of exhaustion yes i know it's not good to exhaust you yourself
[20:13]i know believe me stress is not good stress can kill you
[20:16]but habibi your soul is more important than your body if the
[20:21]only way to save your soul is to exhaust your body then
[20:23]so be it we're going to die anyways exhaust yourself from the
[20:28]from the morning till the night be busy doing something productive because
[20:34]when you have two three hours you're just in your room and
[20:38]you want to rest that's when shaytan comes that's when shaytan plays
[20:42]with your mind don't give him that opportunity keep yourself busy as
[20:46]much as you can that's the first tip the second tip my
[20:52]dear brothers and sisters avoid triggers there are certain places that you
[20:57]go to certain sites that you visit that trigger in you haram
[21:04]desires avoid them avoid going to these places avoid spending time with
[21:12]friends who encourage you to do haram i know some people well
[21:16]they're good they have good intentions but when they go to that
[21:21]sarah and they spend time with their friends they leave finding new
[21:24]energy for haram avoid these triggers have mercy on yourself these triggers
[21:29]if you can control them and avoid them you can avoid many
[21:34]situations in which you fall find yourself in haram and one advice
[21:39]i give to everyone don't spend time alone with yourself in your
[21:43]room if you struggle with these types of addiction you want to
[21:47]do your work go in the living room it's okay go to
[21:50]a public place i know you can't concentrate the way you can
[21:55]in a quiet area i understand that i acknowledge that i know
[21:58]that but you can train yourself it's okay you can train yourself
[22:05]to concentrate because many times many times sin is accessible to us
[22:08]when we are in our own privacy that's why that's why in
[22:15]islamic law it's makru to spend time alone with yourself except if
[22:20]you're worshiping allah sleeping alone in your room you know that's my
[22:24]crew i know many of you now are going to tell me
[22:25]sad what are you doing here don't you know that here in
[22:29]the west everybody has his own room we don't share rooms with
[22:32]others i'm telling you islamic law it's my crew it's my crew
[22:37]to sleep alone in the room it's my crew to eat by
[22:38]yourself it's my crew to spend time with yourself alone because when
[22:42]you're alone you're telling shaytan father come mess with me unless it's
[22:47]purposeful you're contemplating you're seeking knowledge right or you're in ibadah if
[22:53]you're praying salat to lay it's okay go in a private room
[22:57]i don't i'm not concerned about you if you're praying sarah to
[23:00]lay if you're doing something productive but for the most part it's
[23:05]makru to spend time by yourself this is a very effective technique
[23:11]my dear brothers and sisters number three those who struggle with addiction
[23:15]to inappropriate content have someone install software on your phone on your
[23:21]internet connection on your internet policy on your laptop laptop you know
[23:28]like parental controls software that blocks access to inappropriate sites and let
[23:33]them only have the password let them only have a password go
[23:38]to a family a friend tell them here install it for me
[23:40]don't give me the password this is very effective studies have shown
[23:43]this is very very effective it reduces the opportunity to commit sins
[23:49]the other practical step my dear brothers and sisters resort to the
[23:55]power of wudhu you know with and doing will do upon wudhu
[24:01]is this is very effective anytime a person feels the urge of
[24:04]temptation of caitanya and whispering to him stand up and go and
[24:10]do this gives you a spiritual power to control your desires that's
[24:15]very effective the other step that's also very important here before you
[24:20]see any movie these days people go and they blindly go and
[24:24]they see a movie right i don't care what rated it is
[24:27]allah just go a movie it's a nice movie this weekend research
[24:30]before you see a movie does it have inappropriate scenes or no
[24:34]why do we blindly go and see movies many times these movies
[24:39]wallahi they create the desire in your heart and they ruin your
[24:42]life research is this movie appropriate for which ages is it appropriate
[24:49]by the way in islam there's nothing called rated r 18 17
[24:56]19 20.
[24:54]haram is haram you're 15 insha allah you're 55.
[24:58]seeing something that's inappropriate is inappropriate so go and research and there
[25:07]are some sites by the way even by non-muslims there are christians
[25:10]who are conservatives they've dedicated websites to tell you which movies are
[25:15]moral and which movies are immoral which movies have good scenes and
[25:17]which movies have bad scenes do some research don't just blindly go
[25:20]and see a movie restrict yourself in what you see this is
[25:26]your test this is how you show that you're truly a man
[25:30]and then dear parents be careful with your children using social media
[25:36]you think tick tock is harmless believe me 90 percent i'm i'm
[25:45]underestimating 99 percent of what goes on tick tock is haram inappropriate
[25:50]singings haram music i know you will tell me say it there
[25:55]are some good things well there are some good clips i don't
[25:57]deny that sure that's one percent if your child has an account
[26:03]and they're spending 30 minutes an hour two hours going through tick
[26:05]tock i guarantee you they're exposed to haram you think allah exists
[26:11]on tik tok right and most of those clips takes you closer
[26:15]to god you know they've they've even designed the chinese company they've
[26:20]designed the feed such that it's very addictive when you see the
[26:25]tick tock feed and they throw these clips at you that are
[26:29]very addictive and sometimes they're provocative and kids seven eight nine ten
[26:33]they're seeing it and their parents are in a different world yeah
[26:37]it's just tick-tock it's for kids it's for kids there's no harm
[26:43]in it control what your kids see even the cartoon that they
[26:48]see research does it have inappropriate content or no the social media
[26:51]that they use i honestly i honestly my assessment based on my
[26:56]experience with so many families and with what's happening to our children
[27:02]i don't think children under 16 should have their own social media
[27:06]account i honestly don't think that's necessary i'm not judging anyone who's
[27:11]out there who has that i'm not judging you i'm just telling
[27:14]you my brotherly advice my brotherly advice this can lead to so
[27:20]many consequences i know social media has a lot of good believe
[27:23]me i know i'm aware of that but the danger is greater
[27:26]and many times our children they don't have the compass to navigate
[27:32]these dangerous waters to know right from wrong but these days masha'allah
[27:36]go to your kids classes in the school you see there are
[27:40]ten they have iphones and they have five social media accounts masha'allah
[27:44]that's why we have a problem in our society that's why we're
[27:48]having broken homes that's why our children are going away from religion
[27:52]they're being preoccupied with all of that we must exercise judgment my
[27:58]dear brothers and sisters in what we see and in what we
[28:01]view but the hadith gives you a beautiful beautiful reward the hadith
[28:07]states if you say no to haram you have the urge to
[28:12]see something that's haram you say no to it you lower your
[28:17]gaze the imam ali salaam states allah creates the sweetness of ibaddha
[28:20]in your heart you'll taste the sweetness of worshipping god and allah
[28:25]subhanahu wa ta'ala will make you taste the the presence of his
[28:31]existence the presence of his glory you'll see god through your heart
[28:34]say no to that haram and see how allah will compensate you
[28:38]allah compensates i conclude with this very moving story that happened in
[28:43]isfahan centuries ago there was a young seminary student his name was
[28:53]mahdi he was poor coming from a you know humble background so
[28:57]he had a small hut which was basically like his room he
[29:01]would study there one day at sunset somebody knocks at his door
[29:07]this is a true story happened in isfahan in iran someone knocks
[29:12]at his door he opens the door he sees a very classy
[29:18]beautiful girl appearing at his door so he asks her what's going
[29:24]on who are you looking for she tells him look i got
[29:28]lost i don't know how to go back to my house please
[29:31]you're a seminary student who am i going to trust other than
[29:36]you please if i can just spend the night here because if
[29:38]i stay out there i don't know what will happen to me
[29:41]just allow me one night to spend here tomorrow i'll go back
[29:46]to my family now he's she's a girl he's a man he's
[29:49]a young student he's single how is that possible he wanted to
[29:54]refuse but she begged him she told him i'll perish out there
[29:58]please he says okay he lets her he lets her in she
[30:04]goes inside his room he takes out a curtain and he divides
[30:06]the room in half he says you stay on that side i
[30:10]stay on this side don't come to my side i won't come
[30:12]to your side she says okay in the middle of the night
