[0:28]aldam my dear respect brothers and sisters I sincerely welcome you to
[0:40]this new class where we will be looking and examining into a
[0:45]very understudied and even underappreciated subject within Islamic history contrary to what
[0:54]many might imagine the following discussion is very much intertwined with Islamic
[1:01]history because Islam brings a great deal of attention focus emphasis on
[1:07]the previous scripture on the tat the injil the Psalms of David
[1:15]the zabur the ancient lessons that are there you find constantly riddled
[1:21]throughout the Holy Quran that Islam emphasizes the previous scripture with such
[1:27]a great deal of emphasis one can only imagine that Allah subhah
[1:32]wa taala wants you and I to better understand and appreciate the
[1:38]efforts that it took to crystallize to spread the sacrifices from the
[1:50]previous Prophets The like such as Isa Jesus Son of Mariam m
[1:57]b Iman D all in all this is an element that is
[2:02]very much intertwined with Islamic theology therefore I sincerely welcome you all
[2:09]to the biblical text through the Quran and class and insh it
[2:13]will be an eight- part Series in the near future uh we
[2:19]may even expand more to this therefore I believe what better way
[2:23]to begin a class about the Bible let's say then by mentioning
[2:34]the beautiful introduction to inaugurate this class how IM talks about Jesus
[2:42]Son of Mary mentions a Hadith where he introduces for us and
[2:53]inshallah from now until the end of the course keep this as
[3:00]your vision that the they love these previous prophets and the previous
[3:05]prophets also love the so what better way to begin than with
[3:09]the of the reminder of regarding he says and if you desire
[3:21]I will speak about Jesus Son of Mary for he would rest
[3:29]upon hard surfaces meaning he was exempt from the luxuries of this
[3:34]life and he would wear rough clothing he wasn't invested in the
[3:43]luxuries the royalties that this duny had to offer everything was at
[3:47]his disposal but he wore rough clothing and he would have his
[3:57]food be coarse as well hunger was his condiment the moon was
[4:07]his lamp the moon at night was his lamp that would be
[4:10]the only way he would guide himself at night if Allah subh
[4:15]if at night there was no way of guiding through light through
[4:21]a source that would illuminate and radiate his path the moon was
[4:27]ited if you at night the moon was his lamp and he
[4:41]would continue by describing and the horizons of the earth its East
[4:53]and West were his shelter in the winter and his fruit and
[5:05]fragrant herbs by night were what the Earth brought forth for the
[5:11]cattle meaning would often share his meals like the cattle would share
[5:18]their meals he would eat whatever they simple humble atic what we
[5:23]describe in Islamic theology a he was a in that way he
[5:31]had no wife to distract him and he had no son or
[5:37]child to grieve him nor wealth to divert him his only Mount
[5:50]were his feet meaning he barely rode on modes of transportation if
[5:55]he wanted to travel he was just going to walk that's According
[5:58]to some traditions from the term it would constantly travel often and
[6:09]his hands were his only servants often times people think these Grand
[6:14]individuals might have slaves at their disposal AIDS and servants see how
[6:23]we say we are all their servants hisam or his hands that's
[6:26]why he would use his own hands to wash the feet of
[6:29]those who were under privilege I began with thisi of IM introducing
[6:35]as our inaugural opening to this course the biblical text in light
[6:40]of the Quran and and I welcome you all who had just
[6:44]walked in and attended and of course I welcome the several who
[6:48]are online as well additionally and by the way just just some
[6:52]I guess class ground rules feel free to jump in ask interrupt
[6:56]scream no don't do that but just jump in and raise your
[7:00]hands and just comment if you have any questions or if things
[7:04]are not so clear yes sister we have trouble finding the class
[7:07]I think someone's still looking for it as in like physically we
[7:09]we will send we will send one of the to go find
[7:17]the long lost student yeah no thank you for letting us know
[7:21]but in that light if there are any questions maybe even just
[7:27]about the uh jump in jump in I don't mind at all
[7:28]I don't save the question questions for that especially additionally for our
[7:31]beloved brothers and sisters who are online tuning in um please feel
[7:37]free to comment your questions in the chat log and we will
[7:40]definitely address you as well inum now having given a brief summary
[7:50]of the vision of this kind of course the question begs itself
[7:54]why such a class often times people think listen man we need
[8:01]to work on the Quran and developing that relationship we need to
[8:04]focus on our literature on our Islamic tradition don't you feel that
[8:11]that's a valid argument Brother Ali that sometimes people might make that
[8:15]claim listen you're going to take us to the in you're going
[8:17]to rewind 5,000 years to the toat wait a second the Quran
[8:22]we need to formulate and strengthen our relationship with so why such
[8:27]a class for example you have any ideas like what would be
[8:30]the motive for emphasizing researching this element what would you say brother
[8:40]how about you how long do you have an answer just an
[8:47]answer an answer U probably the best answer that I can think
[8:50]of is um the Quran in many places is half of the
[8:57]dialogue okay in order for us to understand the baggage that is
[9:00]addressing to see what they came so upon looking into the Quran
[9:05]we realize the Quran often references and cites these resources these literatures
[9:10]uh these Traditions so I mean it doesn't hurt to if the
[9:13]Quran is doing it why don't we just copy the Quran in
[9:16]that regard that's one thing as well brother what would you share
[9:19]in that regard if you don't mind the steps that built up
[9:24]to Quran my understanding it's that um these previous monotheistic religions were
[9:27]there to get the people ready for yeah so to know backgr
[9:33]and our steps buil up tolam so to look at the Timeline
[9:35]that eventually brought forth Islam essentially you know and of course if
[9:38]you look at the historical timeline clearly there's an order the first
[9:44]of which you one can argue the toat right the Old Testament
[9:46]as one many might call it then the in the gospels the
[9:51]Bible the New Testament as many will call it right um so
[9:53]those are all very good reasons SS would you happen to share
[9:58]anything in that regard like why such a class y with the
[10:00]question in mind of when should our priority be our Traditions our
[10:05]literature in the non School of I will say this that it
[10:12]is discouraged to study other religions in the non School of there
[10:16]is a Hadith by to which he says he came upon someone
[10:19]reading the Bible and so he was aggressive to his uh Behavior
[10:25]wide study of the Bible there's only one way of Allah um
[10:27]we don't necessarily Embrace such a manner we believe that why would
[10:30]you restrict Elm you know knowledge shouldn't be confined just because you
[10:34]Embrace that worldview or not you may not necessarily need to be
[10:39]a Buddhist to go and study Buddhism because you see how significant
[10:42]it is in the lives of other people so let's just look
[10:47]at what's going on that kind of thing um any other thoughts
[10:49]as to why such a yes sister I would say at its
[10:53]heart all the religions as that are monotheistic kind of stem from
[10:57]the same point so understanding the perspectives from um the Bible or
[11:01]the Torah kind of sees how over time the Rel the religions
[11:06]have kind of changed they come together so in one way we
[11:09]we all share something in in common and so for that reason
[11:14]there is a common denominator between the other teachings and the other
[11:18]traditions and for that reason because I have something related to you
[11:21]why not learn more about you appreciate you you know we all
[11:26]stem from that same n for example and the eye of the
[11:27]Quran um Echoes what you're saying in the sense of ibraim don't
[11:33]say he was Jewish don't say he was Christian rather he was
[11:37]Muslim I thought Islam came with it turns out here Muslim means
[11:43]those who submit to Allah on the way he wants to be
[11:45]Worship in that context Adam was the first of these Muslims on
[11:50]life so for that reason Christianity proper Christianity was Islam proper Judaism
[11:55]was Islam and because it's Islam and I'm a Muslim I have
[12:01]a greater right to that Judaism than Jews today I have a
[12:05]greater right than that Christianity than Christians today so why not take
[12:10]what's rightfully ours religiously speaking from an intellectual point of view and
[12:13]study it I have two reasons number one practical pragmatically for fostering
[12:22]a deeper appreciation for your own beliefs you can actually ironically by
[12:26]the way ironically I say this because one would imagine if you
[12:29]want to appreciate your own belief study your own belief I would
[12:31]say not just that study other beliefs you will then come and
[12:39]realize how beautiful of a your belief is I I did my
[12:41]masters in religious studies at Detroit Mercy it's the largest private Roman
[12:46]Catholic University in Michigan so it's Roman Catholic my teachers were all
[12:51]priests most of them um and so I was you know picked
[12:56]on by some of my friends here maybe some of them are
[13:00]in this class as well who were saying say after some time
[13:02]are we going to see you become Christian are you gonna wear
[13:06]a cross later so a few months has passed okay and the
[13:09]same Brothers asked me what's your status you know just teasing me
[13:15]and I said I am more confident in Islam now why this
[13:17]isn't by the way to be uh throwing lower Jabs at other
[13:23]teachings but I said to myself genuinely for strictly looking at things
[13:28]academically speaking removing Dogma this is just the word of God so
[13:30]you have to accept it whatever just looking at it academically objectively
[13:34]if that's the alternative alhamdulillah for Islam looking at some of the
[13:40]teachings the Juris Prudential laws of the Torah the beliefs that you
[13:43]are told to just have faith in but you're not given necessarily
[13:49]logical reasons the Trinity for example Concepts such as original sin um
[13:53]the contradictions the conflictions between scripture to scripture I don't mind having
[13:56]contradictions even within our own literature by at least we don't slap
[14:00]necessarily the title on top of it and you're bound to whatever
[14:05]is in there except the Holy Quran that's the way when it
[14:09]comes to a majority of these texts and I'm like that's not
[14:14]I have more IM a prophet doing something abhorent but because it's
[14:18]in the Torah you have to embrace thear yeah this is this
[14:21]was this was how ibraim was this was how Sarah was this
[14:25]was how Adam was straight up misogynistic what can I say this
[14:29]was for example y was he was a what we would call
[14:33]in modern day context a prankster he would pull pranks on people
[14:36]that's a prophet of God this was how NE was you have
[14:40]to embrace him like I can't Embrace that ibraim deceiving you know
[14:43]in the narrative we'll come to this inshallah in in a few
[14:48]other classes but just to emphasize fostering a deeper appreciation for your
[14:51]own beliefs as one of the reasons why we should study other
[14:53]the these other Traditions you have a story like in Genesis which
[15:00]is one of the books uh of the um Old Testament we
[15:02]call them one of the five books the first one Genesis we'll
[15:07]talk about this by the way thoroughly ibraim you've heard of the
[15:11]story how he has to sacrifice one of his sons in Islam
[15:16]he used to sacrifice who which is the son that he has
[15:19]to sacrifice for the sake of Allah it's is in the old
[15:25]Jewish scripture let's say the let's say the Old Testament it is
[15:29]is Isaac but that doesn't make too much of a big deal
[15:36]for us the big deal is in Islam he asks his son
[15:39]I see in my dream I see I have to slaughter you
[15:47]what do you think what do you see he says oh my
[15:48]father do what you have been ordered he calls him he calls
[15:59]him there's love in Dearing words so this permission give and take
[16:03]consent in the Torah there is no consent he in fact dupes
[16:06]him he says uh son we have to go slaughter a lamb
[16:11]for God a burnt offering so come with me to the hill
[16:13]ibraim brings with him two servants for purposes of what to hold
[16:19]him down as he's going to slaughter him because he knows he's
[16:22]going to resist so his son is going on a hill this
[16:25]is all in the Old Testament basically going to the hill he's
[16:28]thinking he's going to to slaughter a lamb a sheep and he's
[16:33]carrying the firewood he's carrying his own firewood thinking it's going to
[16:36]be for some other purpose as he's on top ibraim goes to
[16:38]slaughter him the servants are holding him back from resisting just before
[16:44]he finishes the job God says stop stop you passed the problem
[16:46]is we don't ask what happened to the son afterwards he's so
[16:49]traumatized he runs away he hates his father basically I'm not staying
[16:55]here what was that you told me something you didn't convince me
[16:59]my my teacher he's a uh practicing Christian one of my professors
[17:04]and basically he said listen uh I believe in all this but
[17:09]and we are supposed to Champion Abraham for this moment but if
[17:12]you were to tell me to slaughter my son I will tell
[17:16]you I'm out I'm not doing this like but God told you
[17:17]he's like uhuh and now so in my case I I can
[17:22]justify this why because the Quran to us his son is a
[17:27]nebbi so he knows he has a responsibility there's consent he sees
[17:30]in his dream he's not duping him or deceiving him it's not
[17:34]traumatic he's running away from home so I never usually like to
[17:37]jump in and said you know I like to do the whole
[17:40]but in Islam you know we have it like this I just
[17:43]do my job and I want to leave right but in this
[17:44]case I saw actually some of the Christians in the class questioning
[17:51]this if the big teacher right is saying this was not moral
[17:54]and I kind of I almost found myself defending Christianity I was
[17:57]like hold on hold on listen if if you're the kind of
[18:01]person who receives emails from the heavens every single day clearly you're
[18:04]just following rules as Abraham is right you know what he said
[18:07]he's like yeah but maybe one of those emails could be spam
[18:11]what do I do in Islam how we Square this circle is
[18:16]this I would agree I would disagree with that as well with
[18:18]with due love and respect to the Christians and the Jews who
[18:23]are obedient to their text I this is not moral you have
[18:24]to lie to him to give him this then he's traumatized and
[18:28]he only returns WI he never sees his dad ever again his
[18:33]son just to come and bury him that's it whereas in Islam
[18:36]there's like a love relationship my my son doesn't say my beloved
[18:41]Son what does he say not my ab my beloved father there's
[18:46]a lot of love going on here because ibraim is what abim
[18:50]according to the ancient Hebrew merciful father he loves his family when
[18:55]ibraim is given the status of IM Global Divine leadership what's the
[19:02]first thing he says what about my family he loves his family
[19:07]so much so one narrative makes you look at your narrative and
[19:12]you're like I have now fostered a deeper appreciation for my narrative
[19:16]it's important you study other scriptures because that's like here's the alternative
[19:19]which one morally is more sound for you ethically because if these
[19:24]are supposed to be God's Divine Representatives who issue injunctions on a
[19:28]daily basis basis through Revelation I need you to be on your
[19:33]act otherwise if you're not on your act then I'm not going
[19:35]to be who why would I be that's why in Islamic theology
[19:40]Every Act that was must recommended was an obligation on the and
[19:44]the prophet and the other prophets because if they don't do it
[19:48]why would I bother doing it so it was an obligation what
[19:51]was must what is must for us is W for them what
[19:57]was Mak or is Mak for us is what Haram for them
[20:01]why because if they're doing it and we're told to avoid it
[20:04]but it's not a sin then I'm not going to avoid it
[20:08]if they are not doing the must and we're told you should
[20:10]do it I could easily Go Ya Allah well they didn't do
[20:14]it why would I do it so for them the standard was
[20:18]higher in this case and in this circumstance one reason why we
[20:22]look at previous literature that is considered by the way Divine it
[20:26]is considered Divine because there is a legitimacy to a degree today
[20:30]with this literature it may not be fully and we'll talk about
[20:34]that actually in a few more minutes the status of the Bible
[20:37]what is the Bible how do we determine the reality and the
[20:43]authenticity and the truth of the Bible as the Quran describes it
[20:49]it has new it has light to it okay is that light
[20:51]diminished or is it still there is it safe to say we're
[20:57]going to retrospectively go back back and look at the Bible and
[21:00]to find the truth is that safe for us to do as
[21:04]in can I open the book and say I know this was
[21:07]not the truth Jesus turning water into wine I don't think Allah
[21:11]would but this line is true can we do that can we
[21:16]find a a proof an a a an a binding truth we
[21:20]can call that a uh from the old scripture these are things
[21:23]we will all inallah discuss so that's my my basic first reason
[21:25]why you study these if people ask you you taking a Bible
[21:30]class as a Muslim like Yeah because it helps me Foster a
[21:32]better appreciation for my own faith like how come just open the
[21:40]first few lines and you'll understand the second reason is to help
[21:45]combat it ignorance that's it akin to what Brother Ali here mentioned
[21:49]um Allah subhana tala ordered us to seek and pursue knowledge I
[21:52]don't want to be ignorant in this life in this life you
[21:56]can be one of two things you can be literate in in
[22:01]in intellectuality you could have a degree of intellect or you could
[22:07]be ignorant I would rather be literate that's all for purposes of
[22:12]lot knowledge of knowing but it helps me combat ignorance it also
[22:17]looks great to non-muslims how non-muslims when you talk to them about
[22:22]their scripture like you meet a Christian who genuinely is proud to
[22:28]be Christian you know I I attend Mass I go to church
[22:31]I'm not just on Christmas Mr Christian I am every Sunday Mr
[22:39]Christian I actually go and I um confess my sins to the
[22:41]father in the church and I give him a tithing for example
[22:45]I'm I'm genuinely a Christian me of course they wouldn't call themselves
[22:52]they call that guy when you tell him oh yeah could you
[22:55]reference me where in Deuteronomy Moses describes himself as having died but
[23:00]you claimed that the Torah was written by Moses how can that
[23:02]be the same case if Moses wrote the Torah but he's talking
[23:05]about his death could you explain that like huh the fact that
[23:12]you're referencing Pages passages and I remember hearing when I spoke with
[23:16]a Christian once we had a back and forth not a debate
[23:18]but a back and forth on preservation of the Quran versus the
[23:21]the Bible when I was actually more impressed about how they were
[23:25]able to cite chapters of the Quran because they actually took the
[23:30]time to learn verses I as a Muslim value that you took
[23:35]your time to appreciate learning verses to come and say look what
[23:38]do they have to offer here are some of my issues does
[23:42]this verse really mean kill all disbelievers chapter 9 verse number five
[23:47]chapter 9 verse number five but then he look he's not using
[23:58]a book He's not using a iPad who's sitting there and he's
[24:00]like chapter 9 verse number five I'm like masallah yeah you you
[24:03]you you're not Fox News Fox News will just come and say
[24:09]the Quran says kill all not into you I heard from Fox
[24:11]News therefore I want to actually verify there's a lot of there's
[24:17]Fox News and there's fake news maybe they're both one of the
[24:20]same but in this case someone takes the effort to learn it
[24:26]really makes it clear that you actually value what you hear and
[24:30]you try to verify it when the Quran orders us whenever you
[24:34]hear some news if the source is questionable verify it always make
[24:41]sure you and when you do so it helps number one combat
[24:43]ignorance you're more intelligent you have a a degree of knowledge now
[24:48]that puts you above others as far as intellectuality additionally it makes
[24:54]you combat any islamophobe or any person that sees you guys as
[25:02]confined to your own space no I am Muslim not because of
[25:05]birth necessarily but because I studied your stuff so it gives you
[25:12]reason to back your claims and your words so for these reasons
[25:17]these are the two reasons I would argue are the primary ones
[25:24]for fostering a deeper appreciation for your own beliefs because if that's
[25:28]the alternative then goodness me man I'm staying here alhamdulillah secondly and
[25:34]by the way you will see how much the Quran comes and
[25:37]critiques for goodness sake critiques and corrects this is what they used
[25:42]to say you see verses like that this is what they would
[25:47]say about this is what they would say about Prophet D remember
[25:50]they would make fun of him so much until today they have
[25:54]this claim about him so the Quran critiques and corre and goes
[25:59]out of its way to say look this was what they said
[26:04]here's the reality of the case so for that reason and for
[26:10]the purpose of to help combat ignorance these Muslims they don't only
[26:13]walk the walk they talk the talk when they say they're Muslims
[26:16]it's because they've looked at our stuff and you're debating them and
[26:19]you're like bro they could reference our material much better than we
[26:22]can they know these Works they know what the gospel of Mark
[26:27]is they know the gospel of Matthew L Luke John they know
[26:29]the difference and by the way we'll talk about all of these
[26:33]things the difference between for example a synoptic gospel and a non
[26:37]synoptic gospel what's what does that even mean the first three are
[26:39]synoptic John is not but they're four altogether why is that the
[26:46]case who on Earth is this Paul guy never met Jesus but
[26:50]he made Christianity who is Paul for goodness sake why do they
[26:56]rever him the concept of the holy spirit being a Divine entity
[26:59]in the Triune of God is that in the gospel or is
[27:04]that some other iteration so when you reference all of these a
[27:07]Christian a non-muslim a Jew when you reference these scripture the Torah
[27:14]you will then make a claim that look I've done my part
[27:18]and I'm not ignorant I didn't inherit my religion I learned it
[27:22]how can I learn a religion if I didn't learn what's out
[27:26]there as well and just stick to one one day did you
[27:30]just wake up and put your hand in a ball oh this
[27:30]is the religion I'll Embrace La I had an advantage by being
[27:35]born into this alhamdulillah Allah blessed us in that regard definitely which
[27:39]doesn't mean that if I wasn't born into this that Allah didn't
[27:42]bless me Allah blessed me with a chance to find it now
[27:46]these are both Blessings by the way and Allah says in the
[27:49]Quran and whoever Embraces Islam after they were not embracing of Islam
[27:54]will get double the reward than the person born onto it because
[27:59]they had a disadvantage for example but in our case it's not
[28:02]like we were just given an option and we just kept it
[28:05]no we have to look at other things for these reasons that
[28:09]we mentioned and lastly as a religious duty to seek knowledge don't
[28:13]you just want knowledge that's it it is our duty as Muslims
[28:17]to emphasize to the following command of Allah Allah says in the
[28:24]Quran let there be a group from every party in the world
[28:33]if you're a m let there be a group from among you
[28:38]emerge and become more enriched and devote themselves to gaining and understanding
[28:46]religion the beautiful thing is what Allah says to devote themselves to
[28:56]gaining understanding in religion de not not what does that mean that
[29:09]means all of this is just religion religion isn't just the commands
[29:15]of the Quran restricted and that's it every aspect of life incorporates
[29:20]Dean in which way that if I go out of my way
[29:25]to make a living if it's done keeping Allah in mind I
[29:29]am manifesting my religion in this it's not just what is mentioned
[29:32]in the scripture as well means just go and gain knowledge everything
[29:38]you do in the process of gaining knowledge increases your religion increases
[29:43]your Iman so when I study non-islamic scripture let's just call it
[29:48]non-islamic I am improving my Islamic relationship in one way but this
[29:54]scripture happens to also be Islamic not as where it stands right
[30:02]now under the organized church or the churches or the various interpretations
[30:05]that there are Judaism and Christianity not as it stands right now
[30:11]but the truth was in this at one point could you all
[30:13]agree was the truth in it in other words if you were
[30:19]born in let us say let's say for example 29 CE we
[30:25]are what year we just entered 2025 man time flies subh right
[30:29]yeah 202 if you were 20 let's say if you were at
[30:35]the year 25 CE which religion would you have to follow if
[30:38]Jesus was preaching him whatever you want you're God's representative we see
[30:45]by the way in the scripture Jesus's mission according to Islam and
[30:49]actually even um most Christian Scholars is his mission was only 2
[30:54]years so he lived to be about 33 according to the gospel
[30:59]he was about 33 in Islam similarly as well there's a bit
[31:01]of a difference of opinion but there's a consensus in general no
[31:05]more than these couple few years in that time period if you
[31:08]around you have to follow him right it's not his fault that
[31:17]maybe authorities hierarchies come and decide to Tamper decide to do some
[31:23]change that's not his issue but if I was alive that time
[31:26]that's the dean means that's your Dean during the time M that's
[31:30]your Dean this Islam is your Dean now when a new Dean
[31:34]comes what happens to the old one can I stay on it
[31:35]no I can't I have to embrace what God tells me now
[31:39]Embrace but what does that mean for back then that means you
[31:44]can still look back and see what are the lessons and wisdoms
[31:47]that remain there the IMs of they named their children after some
[31:52]of the prophets of Allah what's his first name why in our
[31:59]is more Superior than yes that's our because he's an IM but
[32:05]the man he's named after his is no longer applicable so why
[32:14]is another Shar taking lessons from him because these lessons are Universal
[32:19]that's why Allah brings these stories in the Quran that's why you
[32:23]hear Allah brings so m is the most mentioned prophet in the
[32:27]Quran the prophet of Islam how many times by name is he
[32:33]mentioned in the Holy Quran four times Isa a number of times
[32:42]M A lot of times there are so many why if you
[32:43]would think based on what one would imagine would be the order
[32:48]of how things work on what's new what's old what's outdated what's
[32:51]updated the new would get more attention not necessarily because it's old
[32:56]doesn't mean it's still not applicable today but yes there has been
[33:01]a lot of tampering so segueing from this discussion on tampering and
[33:07]things like that what is the status of the Jewish and Christian
[33:11]Bible according to Islam Today what is the status of itah Bak
[33:19]chapter 2 verse 75 tells us do not hope oh Believers that
[33:31]they would believe you that they would believe for you while a
[33:36]party of them used to hear the words of Allah and then
[33:41]distort it after they had understood it while they were knowing me
[33:46]meaning they would distort what they heard from the words of Allah
[33:49]back in the day they heard Revelation but not from Allah directly
[33:56]from Allah's Representatives these are the Christians these were the Jews Allah
[34:01]is telling the holy prophet of Islam that don't Hope Oh Believers
[34:04]that they would believe for you while a party of them used
[34:10]to hear the words of Allah and then distort it after they
[34:12]had understood it while they were knowing meaning they knew this was
[34:14]the truth they still changed it another verse tells us that among
[34:20]those who are Jews are those who distort words from their proper
[34:24]usages and say we hear and disobey yeah they almost embrace the
[34:29]idea that look I heard it yeah I'm not going to follow
[34:32]it I know what you said I'm not interested in following it
[34:36]it's not in my interest the Quran brings us so many examples
[34:39]the Quran would tell them listen uh God has ordered you guys
[34:43]not to fish on Saturdays that's the Sabbath it's a holy day
[34:49]you can't work so what did they do we'll find a loophole
[34:54]on Fridays we'll cast our net Saturday we just can't do anything
[34:57]Sunday we'll bring the net back in the thing is you're trying
[35:02]to trick Allah can Allah be tricked he like and then they
[35:04]would say we didn't fish yeah but you're not you can't fool
[35:10]Allah Allah said don't fish you had it passively happen and Allah
[35:15]condemned that so when Allah says that they would say we hear
[35:18]and disobey that means they're saying I know the truth I'm going
[35:21]to distort it I'm going to distort so the scripture today according
[35:29]to Islam has been distorted means distortions it doesn't necessarily mean that
[35:37]words were taken or words were added necessarily it means distorted in
[35:44]any way if a word was taken out that would not be
[35:49]called it would just mean yeah they wrongfully tampered with the words
[35:55]of Allah but to distort it would be like now we're going
[35:59]to add more to it that God did not say and we're
[36:00]going to take out what we don't like completely just making it
[36:05]your own thing there's also the concealment of the truth so there's
[36:09]Distortion but then there's also there's an element of the truth let's
[36:12]just hide it we're not going to add to it we're just
[36:15]going to hide it Allah says and do not mix the truth
[36:18]and falsehood or conceal the truth while you know it some interpreters
[36:21]suggest this refers to hiding or altering parts of the scripture do
[36:25]not mix the truth and falsehood there's there's and there's they would
[36:32]like you know just put this together it's true but we don't
[36:34]want it to be true that's what happens all people of the
[36:38]scripture there has come to you our messenger making clear to you
[36:42]much of what you used to conceal of the scripture and overlooking
[36:46]much the Quran acknowledges that here comes a meaning he's going to
[36:53]make it clear to you that what much of what you guys
[36:56]concealed would address the Clans like um and Nan for example the
[37:06]Christian of the Nani group of of Yemen the Jewish groups of
[37:12]Medina he's like listen Allah is ordering them this Prophet has come
[37:16]he's going to show you what you used to hide and so
[37:22]that happens other ayat and we'll wrap up with this Ayah um
[37:26]Bak chapter 2 verse number 79 so woe to those who write
[37:34]the scripture with their own hands as the parallel says woe upon
[37:45]those the book of Allah you wrote it yourself you're not supposed
[37:51]to do that what happened this is from Allah you wrote it
[37:58]with your own hand why do you say it's from Allah by
[38:00]the way we're going to come back to this verse when we
[38:03]look at some of the Torah clearly this is not from God
[38:05]some aspects cannot be from Allah tala clearly the gospels as well
[38:10]when you just look at the contradictions the conflictions the gospels are
[38:14]supposed to be a narrative of the life of Jesus basically a
[38:19]not like the Quran lessons Parables stories Juris prudence and some biographical
[38:26]moments the gospels meaning the Christian narrative is just the biography of
[38:32]Jesus from the moment he was dispatched not even from his baby
[38:36]time then other gospels bring the time when he was a baby
[38:41]but I thought both of them were true one gospel will tell
[38:44]I'm not going to get into this much because we'll have a
[38:46]class on the gospels just them first a moment inshallah we will
[38:49]discuss the Torah and then another moment we'll discuss the gospels and
[38:52]then we'll discuss more about the intricacies and the J jst depositions
[38:56]about that one one gospel says that he gave a Sermon on
[39:00]the Mount you guys have heard of that one it's famous then
[39:02]there's another one that says the Gospel of Luke he gave a
[39:07]sermon on the plane was it a mount or was it a
[39:11]plane I've asked this to a really obedient um Evangelical Christian they're
[39:15]the best by the way the evangelicals because they will die by
[39:18]the word everything here is literal okay so there's no theoretical interpretation
[39:22]this is the word the truth the way Jesus they are what
[39:28]we should be with the Quran in the sense this is literally
[39:30]the word of Allah alhamdulillah he's like that is not meant to
[39:36]be taken literally I just want to know was it on the
[39:38]mount or was it on the plane he it's whatever it was
[39:42]yeah but both of them are H right was he on both
[39:47]I don't know what to say yeah so clearly someone did something
[39:49]with their Allah says he condemns this why so they could buy
[39:58]something of value but this of value is not even that expensive
[40:03]this is from Allah in order to exchange it for a small
[40:05]price they would fake their own scripture this would happen to the
[40:09]previous followers of the previous religions such that they could sell it
[40:14]for a small price this is common by the way these are
[40:18]called charlatans the term we use is charlatan they they exist by
[40:21]in Islam unfortunately there are many um scholar claimants out there many
[40:27]this is not to cast doubt on the ever a true you
[40:31]know clearly they they they their money is where their mouth is
[40:35]their money is not where their hand is their money is where
[40:39]their mouth is clearly though that's a scholar then there are charlatans
[40:42]I'll give you an example there are some many some there's a
[40:46]lot fake Imam M claimants these guys they'll come out there they'll
[40:50]say this is what the Quran says there's a there's another hidden
[40:53]Sur you literally wrote that I could clearly see the Arabic grammal
[41:00]mistakes why' you do that it turns out to be in his
[41:04]religion you have to pay a fee of $5,000 a month forget
[41:09]you and your Dean what is this that's not Dean anyways so
[41:11]so that they can buy with it something if you're you're that's
[41:18]little in the value of Allah tala why would you even bother
[41:21]Additionally the Quran says there was a loss of our original scripture
[41:25]that ends the deal with us today clearly the full original scripture
[41:30]is not with us so as much as you try to piece
[41:34]it in together there are so many attempts researchers academic uh thesis
[41:39]phds Masters I've seen a lot of them that try to piece
[41:43]what could have been the original Jesus experience not this guy's opinion
[41:49]that guy's view what is exactly what happened the Quran has blatantly
[41:54]clearly said it's lost don't worry you'll find maybe maybe maybe maybe
[41:57]if you work your socks off 75% but the Quran talks about
[42:03]moments in the life of the previous prophets it even talks about
[42:07]the Quran saying things [Music] like they you can even find the
[42:18]prophet's name in the in in the toat where is that I'm
[42:25]looking into I don't see it so then what does that mean
[42:27]happened so the truth has been lost chapter 5 verse 13 says
[42:36]they distorted words from their proper usages and have forgotten a portion
[42:45]of that of which they were reminded this suggests not only Distortion
[42:51]they see it they distort it but also neglect and the loss
[42:58]of parts of the original Revelation that's terrible you forgot it CU
[43:04]why don't you write it down we did write it down what
[43:06]happened we changed it you had one job the prophet whoever this
[43:12]Prophet was for you it's not just Jesus it's the sub prophets
[43:17]that come Samuel shamuel all these other individuals who lead up after
[43:23]M these NB what was their role to help you remember why
[43:27]did you mess it up well alhamdulillah Allah safeguarded the final message
[43:33]he says I have brought this remebrance down and we are its
[43:39]preservers and its Guardians and we will make sure it will never
[43:41]be tampered the Quran will never change in that regard so that's
[43:47]the reality now what exactly is the Bible you hear Bible often
[43:53]you're going to hear it often in this class too inshallah what
[43:56]is the B the Bible today today as it stands and I
[44:02]would like to make this clear this will be a sort of
[44:08]non-confessional address to this subject meaning I'm not going to incorporate the
[44:12]belief of the Christian I will just look at it objectively we
[44:17]will all look into this academically essentially when teachers teach in modern
[44:24]Academia they have to remove the element of this is my belief
[44:27]if there is a contradiction I have to admit that's that contradicts
[44:33]that but it contradicts it but we're told by some thinker interpret
[44:35]it as metaphor if there is none of that I don't know
[44:40]what to do in this case we're have to look at it
[44:42]objectively so today today that's why words matter by the way when
[44:49]I say the Bible if you ask a Christian what will they
[44:51]tell you the Bible is they'll say the Bible is two remember
[44:57]this the the Old Testament and the New Testament why do they
[45:04]call the Bible including the Old Testament why the Old Testament is
[45:09]what Old Testament so it's the older it's the older Divine teachings
[45:20]what is that the Torah the what's the Torah though why isn't
[45:26]it just the Torah and then the Bible because the Christian believes
[45:31]the Torah is the Bible it's the Old Testament but essentially this
[45:35]discussion old new this is a Christian terminology a Christian language if
[45:41]you say Old Testament to a Jew he'll be very insulted to
[45:46]you a practicing Jew be like what do you mean Old Testament
[45:48]because that means there's a what for a Jew a new testament
[45:52]do they believe in the New Testament New Testament is Islam Islam
[45:58]however however if we keep in mind the idea that it was
[46:05]all Islam to begin with there is no old there is no
[46:08]new there is just Islam Adam was the first on Earth Muslim
[46:14]that's it why because Society was not ripe enough for the Quran
[46:20]yet imagine during the time if Quran is the final greatest message
[46:22]why doesn't it in the time ofan the Quran come to end
[46:27]it right there yeah because opens the Quran and he sees who's
[46:31]AB who's this guy who's this guy or the Roman Empire has
[46:39]been conquered it conquered and it was revealed during the time of
[46:43]for example when ancient Babylon and room wasn't even a thing so
[46:46]it needs to ripen the human timeline and The Human Experience so
[46:52]old New Testament is a Christian language so now you know if
[46:56]you mean a practicing Jew if you have a Jewish friend whatever
[47:01]I would discourage you from having any extremist like Zionist and to
[47:05]separate that as well not all zionists uh sorry not all Jews
[47:08]are zionists keep that in mind um and today there's this weird
[47:15]um amalgamation of Christian zionists as well but we're separating that I
[47:19]only mention this and I'm not interested in getting political but because
[47:24]it does relate to uh our modern day lives and to making
[47:26]it clear that you might hear a lot that if you are
[47:30]against a particular policy then you're anti-semitic that's not the case because
[47:33]there are also Jews who have a different opinion politically speaking does
[47:38]that make them anti- their own religion that they worship God through
[47:41]no so this is the only reason I mentioned that by the
[47:43]way if you sit with a scholar of Judaism or if you
[47:47]now you you know this don't say the language Old Testament New
[47:50]Testament it's like Baba That's The Testament end of story right so
[47:56]these are Christian terminologies what is the the Bible though to a
[48:00]Christian you just now see it's something right to a Jew what
[48:07]is it there's this concept it's called I don't want to confuse
[48:11]or become over complicated but it's called the tan the tan the
[48:18]tan according to the old older scripture let's call it that or
[48:24]the Jewish Bible we can call it the Jewish Bible for terminology
[48:27]olog accuracy purposes the Torah is comprised the tanak is comprised of
[48:34]the Torah It's actually an acronym for Torah for this is a
[48:45]Hebrew word by the way which means the prophets does that remind
[48:48]you of anything in Arabic by the way you will notice because
[48:56]Arabic and Hebrew are what languages that there is a lot of
[49:01]lexical similarities not just like grammal lexical enunciations as well they're very
[49:09]similar Salam shalam whatever so Torah means the writings does that also
[49:18]remind you of something in Arabic makab whatever the writings the Jewish
[49:29]Bible is this the tanak the Torah which means what we'll talk
[49:36]about that I'll put an asist on that we'll come back to
[49:40]that the Torah the prophets the writings these together equate to about
[49:47]24 books the Torah is five books just five Genesis these are
[49:56]very famous by the way and the Torah is the most famous
[50:01]part of the T it's the most famous part not many are
[50:03]familiar with necessarily theim or the the writings but this is the
[50:12]most famous the the first is Genesis then Exodus lus numbers and
[50:21]the Book of Deuteronomy these are all books so technically what I
[50:25]should have said is the Book of Genesis the book of Exodus
[50:28]The Book of Leviticus the book of numbers and the Book of
[50:32]Deuteronomy these books these are five they together comprise the Torah then
[50:39]there's a separate series of books together comprise the lives and stories
[50:45]of many of the prophets like Joshua for example y this is
[50:52]called theim portion of the Bible then there's the Kim version which
[50:59]is what that the writings the Psalms of David um the other
[51:06]Scrolls of that are out there um the messages of all the
[51:08]other prophets and their letters Daniel things like that so all of
[51:12]these Danielle which is a prophet in Islam too by the way
[51:14]and you notice so many prophets are with us in Islam as
[51:18]well there are some prophets in the by the way Jewish Bible
[51:22]who are prophets for us but not prophets for them like l
[51:27]is a he's a prophet in the Jewish Bible he's just a
[51:33]wise man he's not infallible for example so this is what makes
[51:39]the Torah the Jewish Bible the Torah is one section there's a
[51:41]there are three sections in total the to the old we call
[51:48]it the Jewish Bible is 24 books in total it's 24 books
[51:52]what about the Christian Bible no Jew by the way disagree agrees
[51:57]on the Jewish Bible in any denomination for the most part to
[52:05]my knowledge all Jews agree it's 24 Books five Torah the other
[52:09]individ other books collectively 24 when it comes to Christianity it's almost
[52:16]any man's land it's it's a lot of differences if you're Catholic
[52:24]the Old Testament or or the Jewish Bible there are more books
[52:32]than what the Jews themselves claim so a Christian denomination comes and
[52:37]says uh no actually Jews your books in total are not 24
[52:42]if you're Catholic it's actually 46 where did you get the extra
[52:47]books from the Jew might say like we believe these are actual
[52:50]Jewish scripture that you guys should have included let's just say so
[52:55]if you're Catholic it's 46 Jewish scripture plus what 27 of the
[53:04]Christian Bible the first four gospels then the book of Acts then
[53:10]the Book of Revelations and a few other resources here and there
[53:17]27 plus 46 27 Christian literature 46 Jewish literature according to the
[53:27]Catholic in total the Bible to the Catholics is 73 books this
[53:32]is good information to keep in mind when you sit with someone
[53:39]they say you should follow the Bible all 76 books are saying
[53:41]to me like that's the Bible what about the Protestants Protestant the
[53:48]Protestants there's 39 in the Old Testament yeah Protestant has 39 yeah
[53:53]I think you said 24 that uh Catholics take 24 of the
[53:59]Jewish which is the first and they add more equal to 46
[54:02]plus the 27 that they have of the chrisan Bible they take
[54:06]39 and add on to it and then it becomes 46 for
[54:10]the the Catholics the Protestants have 39 of the Jewish Bible so
[54:14]they have the 24 of the Jewish scripture they have that Jews
[54:17]have 24 I'm pretty sure the 39 for the Old Testament is
[54:24]the Jewish Bible with you according to Catholics 46 is for the
[54:29]Catholics the Catholics in total for the whole the Catholics with you
[54:35]but the Catholics in total they conclude what that the whole old
[54:38]scripture is what in total I'm just going based out based off
[54:43]of the Christian thinking of each denomination to Catholicism the Jewish Bible
[54:48]is what in total 46 46 to the Protestant is what 30
[54:50]39 39 that's what we're saying they add 27 of the what
[54:55]of the what new test of the of their new testament the
[54:58]Christian Bible yeah yeah so 27 + 39 for the Protestant 66
[55:05]Catholics 46 plus 27 46 of the Jewish Bible according to the
[55:09]C is 7 73 so now if you're a Protestant what's the
[55:16]difference between the Protestant 66 Bibles versus the Catholic 73 that's like
[55:23]seven right yeah seven the Protestant misses seven books that the Catholic
[55:29]has so when a Christian may ask you follow the Bible which
[55:33]one now it's not just a matter of which one it's not
[55:36]just a matter of which one it's which version because now do
[55:39]you recognize that there are different versions of the Bible the most
[55:44]popular is what brother Alis since you jumped in earlier what's the
[55:47]most popular version of the Bible today today yeah today today I
[55:50]don't know I haven't checked in 20 years but 20 years ago
[55:54]it was 20 years you checked mallah it's the King James version
[55:56]yeah it's still it's the most popular widely used King James version
[56:01]what does a version of the Bible mean means the verbs the
[56:06]verbs the the terminology that's used um the language that's used and
[56:11]the vocabulary that's used all of this is like what we would
[56:14]say in Arabic these are all different versions um put that to
[56:20]the side that's a whole different subject of itself the Orthodox there's
[56:24]not just Catholic there's not just Protestant an orthodox as well the
[56:29]Orthodox Christian like the Coptic the Greek the Russian Orthodox Christian they
[56:34]have over 50 of the original Jewish Bible they claim that there's
[56:39]over 50 not your 24 not your 46 not your 39 is
[56:44]50 plus the 27 of the Christian New Testament they still keep
[56:47]it at 27 that's according depending on which Orthodox Christian denomination you
[56:53]come from between 75 and 81 there was an Ethiopian by the
[56:59]way Christianity it's a very big I was in Ethiopia myself huge
[57:04]Christian devotion and love they believe that the um that the Arc
[57:07]of the Covenant the taboot of Musa is actually in Ethiopia it's
[57:13]in this church whatever um it's eventually the total books they have
[57:16]is is 81 that's a lot brothers and sisters I'd like to
[57:19]take you to um one segment and then this will be the
[57:24]wrap up inshallah and we open the floor for any questions Allah
[57:26]I bring this all why I mention the differences I mentioned the
[57:31]different books the amount of numbers why because Allah does say in
[57:34]the Quran he does say this and in multiple ways and in
[57:37]different times and Allah revealed the taat and the in which did
[57:48]you reveal Ya Allah the 66 the 73 the 24 the 75
[57:53]to 81 the over 8 what what was it that you revealed
[57:55]exactly God was very clear brothers and sisters I'd like your undivided
[58:02]attention here he said what Allah revealed the toat and in did
[58:06]he say he revealed the five books of the whatever did he
[58:11]say he revealed for example let's say the um the other material
[58:14]and the scripture acts Revelation what did he say he said the
[58:18]tat the tah T in Hebrew means teachings means the law means
[58:28]the the rule means the instructions when Allah says the part of
[58:35]theat Allah says I revealed down was I revealed laws rules Revelation
[58:39]instructions look how accurate Allah is look how accurate the Quran is
[58:43]it didn't say and I revealed the entire Jewish Bible it would
[58:49]make sense Jewish Bible has some truth to it right but it
[58:51]also has a lot of the differences it also has versions Allah
[58:55]said look I just revealed the Revelation I revealed theam to the
[59:00]heart of the Prophet that you were meant to follow that's all
[59:04]I revealed cuz the word tah literally means instruction rules teachings so
[59:10]Allah is very accurate here he didn't say I revealed the pentat
[59:15]the five books Genesis Leviticus Exodus what he didn't say that I
[59:18]see see in these five books whatever is law that hasn't been
[59:20]tampered with today that's what I revealed M speaking about rulings and
[59:24]Juris Prudence that's what I revealed if Allah said the Quran would
[59:34]not be accurate because first of all that'll be very bad those
[59:39]are for example what's the Christian is the new one or the
[59:45]Islam one he didn't say that but that's our language today did
[59:49]he say that no I just said I brought down the Torah
[59:55]that's it what does the Torah mean laws then then he says
[59:58]in means what we mentioned all of these other books what exactly
[60:04]is Allah referring to when he says inil first of all injil
[60:06]and we'll wrap wrap up with this inshallah comes from the Greek
[60:10]Brothers and Sisters inil Arabic it actually takes it from the Greek
[60:15]inil means in the Greek good news that's it Glad Tidings one
[60:24]might even use that term just good news so even in the
[60:29]word in Allah was accurate why because he's saying I just brought
[60:34]down news that that's good with the Torah I brought down laws
[60:39]rules if he had ever Allah in the Quran said I brought
[60:44]down books this set of books these certain no I brought down
[60:47]a law I brought down news what does that mean in one
[60:52]word I just brought down Revelation Allah the Quran when it said
[60:55]this and Ed these ter terms if it used any other way
[60:58]to describe the previous scripture the Quran would have been wrong you
[61:01]that's not accurate because different versions because different that not all books
[61:06]are the same he just said look I'll keep it safe I'll
[61:07]keep it easy I'll keep it simple I brought down good news
[61:11]and I brought down words you can say that the laws and
[61:13]the words and the teachings are with the Jews and you can
[61:17]say I brought down good news with Jesus given all of this
[61:20]inshallah in the upcoming course we will go through some of these
[61:26]works we we will look at many of the claims and the
[61:27]arguments that the Torah was written by Moses and why this was
[61:33]not true we will look at each gospel as well the gospel
[61:35]of Mark Matthew Luke and John each of them are claimed to
[61:42]be divinely inspired we will look at our observations regarding maybe some
[61:47]of the conflictions and contradictions potentially and we will see where we
[61:52]draw in regards to what we can agree can be salvageable According
[61:56]to Islamic thought and perspective are there any uh last questions and
[62:01]thoughts in this regard okay let me address some of the kind
[62:05]comments that have been uh reached out by YouTube uh if you
[62:10]guys with your permission inshal but I guess in that regard we
[62:13]could keep keep it on because of the YouTube right so in
[62:18]let me get to that now um mallah a lot one wrot
[62:23]this class is offered in person too I didn't know yes so
[62:26]yeah please feel free to attend so yeah the Bible someone asked
[62:29]reference in the Quran is not the Bible we have today absolutely
[62:34]true it's important to study other religions this is in regards to
[62:37]our one of our first earlier questions some are asking if the
[62:47]lectures are recorded obviously inah yes they are I hope right they
[62:52]are I mean I could see myself umam will we learn about
[62:55]the rebuttal to the things we learn regarding Christianity inshallah we will
[63:01]dedicate a class on our um claims and and opinions refuting some
[63:04]of the um major uh beliefs that are there regarding these teachings
[63:11]yes thank you for kicking this off thank you what can we
[63:16]say this is a good question what can we say to the
[63:21]Jehovah Witnesses do you guys know who those are who say their
[63:23]Bible is only translated and not revised and is not a version
[63:25]like the a JV version King James version someone is asking I
[63:32]look forward to reading your Master's thesis thank you so much but
[63:35]maybe at the end of the class or at the classes Jehovah
[63:37]Witnesses is one of the later groups that have emerged as a
[63:44]a different interpretation offering to the Bible um they claim that the
[63:48]truth has now updated itself and there's a lot to say about
[63:51]them um the um Church of Jesus Christ for latterday Saints as
[63:57]well is also a very Rogue and I use that not as
[63:58]an insult but as an just as numbers Wise It's not a
[64:05]majority followed opinion and many Christians will call them kuf a Christian
[64:09]will be like you're not a real Christian why because they have
[64:13]a dramatically different narrative according to the history of Jesus theology many
[64:18]of them believe the event of Jesus happened in America actually that
[64:22]Jesus's crucifixion everything like that happened in the United States I believe
[64:25]in Utah hence that's where they Hub yeah many have prophets as
[64:31]well still alive today the last prophet was called Prophet Thomas and
[64:34]he had passed away today they have a new Prophet according to
[64:39]the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Latter Day Saints so they
[64:42]believe in later on there were saints that have emerged they call
[64:45]them prophets basically for those reasons many Christians see them as like
[64:48]a heretical group what concerns us is scripture that intertwines with the
[64:53]Quran citation alhamdulillah m
