[15:10]by noor islamic education which is a daily guide and matchless companion

[16:11]in particular we ask the parents to kindly be vigilant to ensure

[16:13]that their children are not playing around the building materials if you

[21:30]today's topic is the empowerment of the youth and i'd like to

[21:39]start today's topic by asking the youth that are sitting in the

[21:41]back to join me here at the front inshallah i won't ask

[21:48]for too much but if we can ask the youth to come

[21:55]here to the front so thank you thank you may allah bless

[22:04]you all it's a real honor and pride to see such wonderful

[22:12]youth in our majalis because they are surely our future for their

[22:17]blessings can we recite a second in honor i start today's lecture

[22:36]with a verse in chapter 52 verse number 17 in which allah

[22:42]subhanahu wa says that those that allah classifies as those righteous people

[22:56]are in jannat in a garden that's known jannah as paradise and

[23:01]in grace and blessings there are many important lessons that can be

[23:05]derived from the quran and specifically from these verses from verse 17

[23:13]onwards allah subhanahu wa ta'ala speaks about the position of those who

[23:17]those people that allah subhanahu wa calls addresses sometimes the people as

[23:30]muslim sometimes as and sometimes as the highest level a human being

[23:40]can achieve is that of being a muttaqi foreign [Music] in this

[24:03]specific verse and in other verses he says what's the difference what

[24:09]is that person that has iman which is part of that being

[24:14]a movement he has belief he believes in allah he believes in

[24:18]his prophets he believes in the imams believes in the day of

[24:22]judgment that's what having iman faith then with the iman comes amen

[24:29]good action he's good to his parents he prays on time he

[24:33]has good behavior he gives charity he has good actions this is

[24:39]what a moment is there's a higher level which is what he

[24:43]has takkawa takwa is one taqwa is always thinking about allah subhanahu

[24:48]wa ta'ala whenever you do any action whenever you're about to do

[24:54]any action you think about allah will allah allow me to do

[24:58]this or not is this something pleasing to allah or not is

[25:01]this something that allah if he sees me doing it is he

[25:05]going to reward me or not so is the highest of levels

[25:11]and allah and then the verse continues from chapter 52 verse 17

[25:22]and onward 17 18 19 up to 21 speaks about this position

[25:29]of what's he going to receive from reward i said if you're

[25:31]good you pray on time you're good to your parents you listen

[25:33]to them you come to the mosque you do martial and so

[25:37]on and so forth and many other actions what's the reward that

[25:41]you're going to get allah mentions the rewards in the following verses

[25:46]he says they will have lofty positions they'll sit on thrones in

[25:52]jannah in paradise high thrones and this is one of the most

[26:06]beautiful safat characteristics someone can have that he will be able to

[26:09]be on thrones on the day of judgement we read a beautiful

[26:14]line in dua which is recited on friday morning which says would

[26:51]not be able to be classified we would not know who a

[26:57]mormon is hence why one of the titles of imam ali abdullah

[27:03]is the prince of what of those that have iman and he

[27:09]is the leader of those that have taqwa therefore inshallah what we

[27:14]try and do is ask ourselves is this level of easy to

[27:19]reach or not why did i pick these verses because allah subhanahu

[27:24]wa ta'ala in the following verses there's an interesting verse in which

[27:32]allah says whatever those that have this level of taqwa those that

[27:40]i mentioned have all these devils their descendants will follow them their

[27:47]offspring will also follow them in iman and allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala says

[27:53]we will place their descendants with them in paradise interfere the explanation

[28:01]of this verse there's a beautiful hadith in which ibn abbas comes

[28:05]to the holy prophet and asks him what does this mean those

[28:09]that follow their descendants allah will place them in paradise rasulullah responds

[28:14]by saying on the day of judgment there will be people that

[28:17]will come and allah will say to them that you are going

[28:21]into paradise you are going into jannah when they are about to

[28:24]go into jannah they look around and they say oh allah where

[28:28]is my wife or maybe the other way around the woman is

[28:31]about to go into general she says oh allah where is my

[28:37]husband where is my children and some instances will say they are

[28:40]also in jannah but they are in a level below you because

[28:45]yesterday we mentioned gender has different levels it's not just one place

[28:48]there's different levels of gender the better you do the higher their

[28:51]level is as i mentioned rasulullah says so this person will ask

[29:13]oh allah about my family where are they look at the mercy

[29:16]of allah he says your family they did okay but sometimes they

[29:20]weren't that good so they're in a level below us he says

[29:25]but i miss them allah out of his mercy says your descendants

[29:29]your family your brother your sister maybe your father your mother they

[29:35]can come with you to gender not you go to them in

[29:37]the lower level no because of your good actions they can come

[29:43]with you on your level to jannah therefore the concept of the

[29:50]next generation is discussed in the quran and the importance of upbringing

[29:56]is discussed in the quran and the importance of empowering the youth

[30:00]is discussed in the quran and it's part of our religion because

[30:06]it's vital today with all the obstacles with all the challenges that

[30:13]the youth face we support them and empower them there's challenges from

[30:21]tv there's even challenges that they face in school yes because you

[30:26]would have thought that school when they go to school you don't

[30:28]have to worry now there are they are even facing challenges and

[30:33]obstacles in schools with what they're teaching them there's challenges on their

[30:38]mobile phones on the tvs in the streets you know for example

[30:43]when our elder generation when they lived back home they come out

[30:46]the environment the streets they are brought up in the streets and

[30:51]the father does not worry because in the streets he's hanging out

[30:55]with muhammad and ali now he's not hanging out with muhammad ali

[31:00]he's hanging out now with a different type of people therefore they

[31:06]are facing many obstacles many challenges and they have a difficulty with

[31:11]their identity sometimes you have someone who has an identity and university

[31:16]but a different identity in the mosque yes because in university you

[31:22]feel maybe too embarrassed to show that you are a shia of

[31:26]the hillbilly maybe but in the mosque you are ashamed so we

[31:31]have this identity crisis and we don't have enough leaders in the

[31:35]community sometimes also there's a struggle of power in certain communities where

[31:42]the elders and shall get to that feel that the youth are

[31:47]never ready we're never going to hand over that battle we're always

[31:49]going to have to make we're always going to make the decision

[31:52]alhamdulillah today when i come to al-mahdi center this was i see

[31:59]not only is the center full of youth but i see the

[32:04]committee is very youthful not only is that important but i also

[32:11]see the elders guiding those that are in this center i see

[32:17]the elders through their wisdom through their experience because sometimes we fall

[32:21]into a trap with this topic sometimes you'll see that you know

[32:24]that youth need to be given power they need to make decisions

[32:31]let's sideline the master problem when you sideline the elders the elders

[32:35]also sacrificed in their youthful days the altar as if it wasn't

[32:41]for them we wouldn't have these centers the elders made sure that

[32:43]they instilled the love of hussain in our house there's a beautiful

[32:49]line of poetry that says may allah not punish my mother why

[33:04]because she quenched me and she fed me with the love of

[33:09]aliyah so i gained from my father and from my mother the

[33:18]love of the father of abel hassan therefore the elder and of

[33:22]course when i say my father my mother all the elders here

[33:27]are like my fathers and like my mother when i see someone

[33:29]out there in my community i should not see him as someone

[33:33]that's strange to me i should see him as my father figure

[33:35]and therefore when these two come together you have a community like

[33:40]al-mahdi center you have a community that makes sure they attend whether

[33:47]it's night one or maharam or whether it's night six because sometimes

[33:51]we feel it's only the nights that are leading up to ashura

[33:54]that's our important one only the night of hazrat ambassador yes of

[33:59]course there's a special soft spot in our hearts no doubt and

[34:05]that's night we wait the whole year for it but it does

[34:09]not mean that we only attend that night and therefore when i

[34:14]sit here and i see the crowd i see brothers from afghanistan

[34:17]from pakistan from iran from arab from the hojo community and other

[34:24]center and other communities different ages it gives me pride that i

[34:30]am a shia of their help it gives me pride that i

[34:34]am the shiihau salam how do we empower the youth there are

[34:46]many steps insha'allah and these are just some examples of how we

[34:51]empower the youth and there are more but because obviously your time

[34:56]otherwise we could do a whole 10 nights on how we can

[34:59]empower the youth number one firstly the importance of the family setup

[35:05]that's the most important thing gives much importance to the family structure

[35:14]you know like issues that we have with the as muslims as

[35:21]the lgbtq has risen in our communities in the communities that we

[35:26]live in we find this as a threat to us why because

[35:30]they are teaching our children something that islam does not believe firstly

[35:35]let me say that we respect human beings no matter what at

[35:40]the end of the day mankind is of two types people are

[35:47]of two types either your brother in faith or you're equal in

[35:50]humanity so this person that's following this path he's my equal in

[35:57]humanity allah made him as a human and made me as a

[35:59]human yet just because he is following this act it doesn't mean

[36:06]i have to accept it just because society accepts it it doesn't

[36:11]mean i have to accept it because in my quran allah makes

[36:14]it clear i've created you from male and female there's no other

[36:23]third type male or female i cannot wake up tomorrow and say

[36:28]i feel like a female so i'm a female no allah makes

[36:33]it clear you're either male or female and then he said these

[36:36]relationships between them male and female not all relationships are just because

[36:43]it's male and female it doesn't mean it's hella no if male

[36:46]and female want to come into a relationship they must come through

[36:51]their marriage contract just because they're opposite genders it doesn't mean they

[36:55]can do whatever they want we don't believe allah doesn't we don't

[36:58]even address male and male female and people there's no such thing

[37:03]this is unnatural we feel as islam says yes if you want

[37:08]to society wants to accept this there's a lot of things that

[37:11]society accepts it doesn't mean i have to accept it you know

[37:16]let's not hide and not discuss such topics in our communities of

[37:21]course i feel that these topics require maybe workshops on how to

[37:25]we deal with these issues that we feel are issues for muslims

[37:29]no doubt just like the issue of alcohol the alcohol issue was

[37:35]an issue maybe that the other generation before us faced with the

[37:39]regards to alcohol and alhamdulillah we said this is something that yes

[37:43]society accepts what we don't accept same with this issue society can

[37:46]accept something but i as a muslim will not accept it you

[37:51]want to teach it there's engenders behind it we have a country

[37:57]here that's supposed to have free speech just like you want to

[37:59]preach something to my children i can also come forward and say

[38:05]my religion doesn't allow this i'm not going to disrespect anyone you

[38:10]want to follow this but don't instill it in the of our

[38:15]children yes this innocent mind and your coming and corrupting it with

[38:19]these ideas so the structure of the family is very important and

[38:24]the structure of the family starts with actually selecting your wife because

[38:27]sometimes we when it comes to spouses we follow culture more than

[38:37]religion or and again culture is important there are certain cultural acts

[38:41]that we do that islam does not deny does not say this

[38:44]is wrong yet sometimes we put culture ahead of religion and this

[38:48]is a problem you know if you look at the marriage of

[38:50]rasulullah send them [Music] is different to what maybe we see today

[39:04]today for example if a woman was to go to propose to

[39:08]a man she'll probably get shut down our communities in london and

[41:46]other communities around the world where they did not set themselves any

[41:50]targets on why they want to get married because the family structure

[41:58]is a structure that should be built on what on and you

[42:04]must be sure that you're ready for responsibility because a lot of

[42:09]the times people do not know about the responsibility of marriage so

[42:15]the first point is what is that of the family structure number

[42:23]two we have before i go into that sometimes we have many

[42:28]people that what's happening in their communities but when you tell them

[42:35]come and help come and volunteer they don't want to then why

[42:38]are you criticizing armchair critics they call them i think well they're

[42:42]always like this is wrong why are we starting this time why

[42:46]is the lecture this long why is the dua this why is

[42:50]martin this and then you tell them okay fair points why don't

[42:55]you come forward no because why the main reason for this is

[43:00]because they're not used to making decisions in their life they haven't

[43:05]been brought up to make decisions they're good at criticizing others but

[43:09]they're not good at what at making decisions and some people even

[43:17]don't like listening to advice even when you want to advise them

[43:19]the more you advise them the further away they go from you

[43:23]all i want the good for you i don't want to advise

[43:28]you anything about i i'm trying to improve you but they don't

[43:31]listen to advice because why again the main reason why certain people

[43:35]do not listen to advice is because they don't want to take

[43:39]responsibility you're going to make them feel responsible they don't want responsibility

[43:45]and allah mentions [Music] 20 verse 15 that every nephs every person

[43:58]every soul is recompensed according to what they strive towards not what

[44:03]others strive towards it's how much you sacrifice how much you do

[44:06]how much you give back to your community there are certain steps

[44:12]in which we can encourage and empower our youth as i said

[44:17]that the framework starts at home with the family structure then in

[44:22]the community number one discussion and dialogue to take place between all

[44:28]members of the community talk amongst yourself discuss things make sure that

[44:37]everyone is heard number two participation in decision making yesterday alhamdulillah we

[44:46]have a committee and i'll give this example this jamaat as an

[44:50]of what i've seen before shahar muharram i'm sure you all know

[44:55]there was a survey that was sent out do you want to

[45:00]mention this before or after how beautiful is this that instead of

[45:06]five six seven eight people making the decision they made sure that

[45:12]everyone participates in this decision yes even though i think the choice

[45:18]the majority said before makram i think some people have changed their

[45:21]minds now but alhamdulillah the point is that we make sure everyone

[45:25]shares this decision participation and decision these steps as i said number

[45:32]one dialogue and discussion this is what between the elders and the

[45:36]youth i'm talking about number two the participation in decision making and

[45:40]then how beautiful is it that someone else speaks to someone younger

[45:47]and asks him what do you think about this metals should we

[45:50]do this or should we do this rather than one or two

[45:54]three four five six again i'm speaking out of experience and it

[45:58]hurts me because i grew up in certain centers that i had

[46:04]no say in what happens one family controls everything i had no

[46:11]say but alhamdulillah i realized if you want a progressive community if

[46:18]you want a community that's going to have leaders because we want

[46:23]leaders in our community we don't want followers i want leaders why

[46:27]not because of me i want leaders because when the imam comes

[46:31]back he has leaders that will support him and age leaders in

[46:36]our community number three giving the youth a chance to step forward

[46:40]and come forward how beautiful is it that we see the younger

[46:46]ones for example recite a poem recita murphy yeah recite martin i've

[46:49]seen in communities in london that have maybe uh do the medalist

[46:54]aftermath before the main lecture they asked one of the youth to

[46:57]give a five minute talk in english this is something that's wonderful

[47:02]that you're because you can't after 10 15 20 years say we

[47:05]don't have enough speakers english speakers we're struggling why didn't you give

[47:09]the youth at the age of ten eleven twelve thirteen fourteen fifteen

[47:14]sixty an opportunity [Music] when he delivered the message of islam those

[47:26]around him were who let's name some of those around him together

[47:34]i'll name and you can tell me if they were how old

[47:49]was he he was in his twenties very close one of those

[48:02]first one these names that are mentioning they were the first ten

[48:07]to believe in islam and they spread the message it was their

[48:09]sacrifice how old was it was i want the eldest to come

[48:39]and believe in my message those that surrounded themselves with rasulullah those

[48:43]that sacrificed for rasulullah the likes of amar the likes of khabab

[49:00]and he said who's going to believe in my message so i

[49:03]can become make him my successor my wazir who got up how

[49:07]old is ali 13 years old imagine now a 13 year old

[49:12]stands up and i said sit down sit down sit yes yes

[49:16]how many times have you seen it rasulullah said to him yes

[49:24]ali you you know obviously because of these status and rasulullah knows

[49:27]i'm just giving you examples of ali's age how old was ali

[49:30]when he stayed in the prophet's bed 21 22.

[49:38]allah took pride in that moment that ali slept in the prophet's

[49:43]place while the prophet migrated sacrificed himself for rasulullah he's 21 how

[49:51]does aliyah better 22 at the on the day of buddha the

[49:58]muslims killed 70 of the enemies himself by himself killed 35 that's

[50:06]how many that's all yes ali by himself killed 35.

[50:09]has a beautiful tafsir of this he says on the day of

[50:16]bedrock killed 35 out of the enemies the other 35 were killed

[50:18]by the muslims and the angels because the angels were sent down

[50:25]on the day of better [Music] tomorrow i'm going to give this

[50:51]flag to someone that is loved by god and his messenger and

[50:52]he loves god and the messenger when he goes into the battlefield

[50:58]he only returns with victory he never runs away with the battlefield

[51:02]the companions that's night all slept praying please i hope it's me

[51:07]tomorrow because ali was sick he had some illness in his eyes

[51:11]and the next morning rasulullah woke up and said where is ali

[51:15]28 years old he went forward and he picked up the door

[51:19]of haber this rasulullah said you're too young for this step aside

[51:26]let one of the holders go empowering the youth i'm not giving

[51:32]you examples from random people from the people that you love the

[51:34]most the prophet ibham ali 28 years old look how he empowered

[51:43]me and later on by the way some came forward to say

[51:49]that ali is too young he can't be caliph that's one of

[51:51]the excuses they used ali is too young he was too young

[51:59]when you ran away when you ran away ali was too young

[52:05]when you got the flag you got the opportunity certain companions got

[52:10]the opportunity and you ali wasn't too young then when he bought

[52:14]victory on the day of and on [Music] how many times have

[52:24]we had this in our communities that he's too young even sometimes

[52:28]when certain i'm surprised sometimes when i see a 23 24 year

[52:34]old and of course everyone's different so i don't want to generalize

[52:36]and say you know why why are you not married are too

[52:42]young who sets the age for for marriage each person is different

[52:44]there's no such thing as i'm too young this too young we've

[52:49]created this and all these dialogue and communication participation in decision making

[52:58]giving them an opportunity at a young age they all start at

[53:04]home because you can't be somebody that says let's give the youth

[53:07]an opportunity but at home you haven't given your daughter an opportunity

[53:12]let's get them to read madame but at home when your son

[53:16]comes to speak to you you're on your mobile phone you don't

[53:22]even communicate with your son or your daughter it starts at home

[53:27]continues at the mosque we're easy to say the mosque isn't doing

[53:32]anything for us what are you doing huh starts at home continues

[53:38]at the mosque whether it's do it some other relationship mother-son relationship

[53:45]because i always say a queen that brings up brings up her

[53:53]son as someone that knows how to treat a woman he will

[53:56]end up marrying a queen also the role of the mother yes

[54:03]no doubt there are many challenges many challenges that i do not

[54:06]personally have solutions there are many obstacles facing us it's difficult today

[54:13]in the modernization of this wall this global village that we live

[54:19]in these mobiles that we have the apps that they're yes there

[54:23]are many many obstacles but if we start at home and continue

[54:27]into our centers and we turn the center not into a just

[54:33]with all due respect i am proud to say that i was

[54:40]brought up in a husseini but now today the hosseinia needs to

[54:43]turn into a community center also needs to also turn into a

[54:55]what into a community center because as i mentioned there are many

[54:58]challenges that we are faced with whether it's our school the identity

[55:02]challenge respect of elders may be sometimes being lost drugs and alcohol

[55:11]some people face issues with the issues of mental health many obstacles

[55:16]but we have trust in allah we start at home we continue

[55:22]at the mosque and the mosque has three main purposes it has

[55:26]many purposes but we can categorize them into three main categories number

[55:31]one the social number two spirituality number three educational it has many

[55:37]roles but you can put them in these three categories a community

[55:42]center i want to concentrate only on the social aspect before alhamdulillah

[55:48]educational madrasas from back home darus salaam to nairobi to mumbasa to

[55:55]madras alhamdulillah we have we've had them always and they've always had

[56:05]spirituality rouhani yes the social aspect i want to concentrate on through

[56:11]the quran because those that study social behavior say a value of

[56:18]a person depends on his environment and there's a huge impact on

[56:25]a person's values characteristics his actions because of the environment that he

[56:33]lives in and islam says that a human being is born with

[56:35]two futhras two things that are part of him they are called

[56:42]means to two things you're naturally the innate part of you to

[56:52]socialize and to do good they're part of you and allah we

[57:13]made you male female tribes different families so you watch so you

[57:18]get to know one another so you socialize it's part of our

[57:22]future to socialize the second fatra is the love of god chapter

[57:32]100 human beings they love hope they have hope love intense these

[57:49]two innate features that we have of we can evolve them we

[57:56]can mature them we can develop them where in the same year

[58:03]i'm only concentrating on the social aspect of the husseinia it's the

[58:16]social aspect that i'm talking about how do we achieve this these

[58:22]two again the quran cooperate with one another again when i'm talking

[58:29]about this cooperation i'm talking about all ages not allah only the

[58:33]elders are only the youth by themselves all ages as i mentioned

[59:12]having i wouldn't say fear of god i don't like using the

[59:14]words faith but it's more having god consciousness you think about god

[59:20]as i mentioned a few nights earlier every action i do i

[59:25]see god before it god during it and god after it that's

[59:44]how many times have we mentioned sword and it's only three verses

[59:49]the words of allah have so many meanings only three verses and

[59:58]then until allah what's ours not you be patient and be on

[60:06]the truth no no no you have to watch you have to

[60:13]cooperate advise each other on what on have on truth and on

[60:17]patience always remind each other advise each other allah didn't say be
