On the blessed nights of Laylatul Qadr, believers are given a unique opportunity to draw closer to Allah through sincere supplication. In this lecture, delivered during the nights of mourning for the martyrdom of Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib, we reflect on the true meaning and power of duʿā—not merely as a request, but as a conversation and intimate connection with Allah. The lecture explores a powerful supplication transmitted from the Prophet ﷺ through Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib, in which the believer repeatedly calls upon Allah: “Subḥānaka yā Allāh, lā ilāha illā anta, al-ghawth al-ghawth, khalliṣnā min al-nār.” This profound duʿā reminds us that the essence of supplication is glorifying Allah, recognizing His perfection, and sincerely seeking His protection. Through Qur’anic examples—such as the supplication of Prophet Yunus in the darkness of the whale—and narrations from the Ahlulbayt, the talk highlights the importance of making duʿā with certainty, humility, and presence of heart. We are reminded that Allah always responds to the call of His servants, and that even the opportunity to make duʿā is itself a sign of His mercy. The lecture concludes with a moving reflection on the final moments of Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib, recalling the sorrow of his family and companions as they witnessed his final departure. A powerful reminder to use these blessed nights for repentance, heartfelt supplication, and renewing our connection with Allah. May Allah allow us to benefit from these nights and raise us among the lovers of the Ahlulbayt.
