[0:20][Music] alhamdulillah alhamdulillah for [Music] muham husin Hussein [Music] for the purification
[2:51]of the souls and the enlightenment of the hearts and for the
[2:53]hastening of the reappearance of the awaited Savior Enlighten your souls and
[3:01]and the atmosphere with a recitation ofat upon Muhammad Muhammad respected brothers
[3:12]and sisters in Islam it was the day in which truth freedom
[3:27]justice and human rights were demonstrated a day that brings hope and
[3:35]inspires the oppressed and trembles the Heart of the oppressors a day
[3:42]that the religion of Islam was saved ashur the 10th of muharam
[3:52]year 61 after Hijra is a date that is commemorated by over
[3:56]400 million human beings on an annual basis these individuals are not
[4:04]necessarily Muslims people from within the Islamic umah and outside stand to
[4:12]pay their respects and to demonstrate their understanding and their love towards
[4:19]the sacrifice and the devotion and the University of values and principles
[4:25]demonstrated by the grandson of the holy prophet Imam Hussein if you
[4:34]and I were to examine history if we were to look at
[4:40]tragedies Wars battles events that have happened in the past we come
[4:44]to the idea that there have been many on a larger scale
[4:50]for instance you look at what happened between 1939 and 1945 over
[4:56]50 million human beings were killed in war war world War II
[5:04]likewise on the 13th century when it came to the Mongol conquests
[5:07]we are told that 30 million human beings lost their lives also
[5:12]you look at the 14th century The Tam Lang Conquest they cost
[5:20]the life of 17 million human beings yet when it came to
[5:26]October 680 ad a group of over 100 men stood in a
[5:32]hot dry day in the sand Junes of carala modern day Iraq
[5:39]they were surrounded by thousands of individuals they stood there and they
[5:45]were attacked they had their families with them they were mercilessly killed
[5:51]butchered torn into pie their heads placed on Spears their family taken
[5:59]as cap as one of the worst forms of Victor's Justice yet
[6:06]it did not end there from that time until today millions of
[6:12]individuals come forward to pay their respects and demonstrate their loyalties and
[6:19]to honor and remember what happened on the 10th of muharam the
[6:26]day of ashur in fact there have been many individuals in history
[6:29]who have tried and attempted to stop people commemorating the day of
[6:33]Hussein the day of ashur the tragedy of carala from to people
[6:46]like Ali they would say that no one can come to pay
[6:49]their respects or to do the visitation of the shrine of Hussein
[6:56]but people used to flock in their thousands willing and ready to
[7:02]sacrifice their lives so that they commemorate what happened over 1,370 years
[7:08]ago their arms were amputated their hands were severed their feet were
[7:14]cut but they would say very famously Hussein that whatever they do
[7:25]to us we will come to you crawling oh my master Hussein
[7:29]therefore when we examine history we find that the event of karbala
[7:34]truly stands out amongst one of the greatest that in has inspired
[7:43]so many including those today that Millions go towards carala on an
[7:48]annual basis unfazed by the fear of being killed due to the
[7:51]bombs due to the threat of terrorism I myself saw this in
[7:57]2004 in the city of kbal on the day of ashur nine
[7:59]B went off I went to the scene I saw the mulated
[8:04]bodies of people body parts across the streets right next to the
[8:08]shrine of Hussein but what has happened since that time until today
[8:11]more and more people have CED more and more people are determined
[8:17]more and more people are encouraged to stand in the honor of
[8:22]this great individual no one in the world is forcing them no
[8:31]one is telling them that you have to take part that they
[8:36]are Resolute yet they are determined muham Muhammad can we take the
[8:47]echo off please therefore what we find is that Hussein and his
[8:52]Revolution remains vividly in the hearts and in the minds of people
[8:55]people who are non-muslims gathered and began to appre appreciate and study
[9:02]the movement and the revolution of IM Hussein Charles Dickens the famous
[9:09]British historian says that if Hussein left and desired this world I
[9:14]do not understand why he took his wives why he took his
[9:20]sisters and his children with him therefore it stands to reason according
[9:24]this individual that Hussein sacrificed his life for the sake safeguarding of
[9:31]the religion of Islam Mahatma Gandhi the famous Indian Freedom rights leader
[9:42]he comes forward he says to the people that I have studied
[9:46]carala and the movement of Hussein and today I wish to understand
[9:51]and establish the following that I learned from Hussein how to be
[9:55]oppressed yet at the same time Victorious hence we look at these
[10:00]individuals who have truly been mesmerized and inspired by Hussein Ali and
[10:06]at the same time one reflects upon the following reality that the
[10:11]revolution of Hussein and what he stood for is not something that
[10:17]is confided to what confided to a group of individuals only it
[10:20]is not for people who claim the love of Hussein Hussein is
[10:25]for all Hussein is for all humankind because the universal principles and
[10:30]the value vales that he stood to establish can be ones that
[10:34]each and every individual can relate to hence when we come to
[10:40]the remembrance and the honoring of Imam Hussein we are encouraged to
[10:46]see individuals outside the school of B who have come forward to
[10:51]talk about carala to analyze this story a few days ago a
[10:54]well-known respected Muslim scholar a US Muslim scholar by the name of
[11:03]Dr Yi he came forward on Sunday and he delivered a lecture
[11:08]online about carala an practice and an action that should be congratulated
[11:12]in other words what did he come he came forward in order
[11:18]to analyze and historically discuss the movement of Imam Hussein something that
[11:23]we do not see commonly practiced often people say that what happened
[11:28]on the 10th of muharam is something that is confined it to
[11:31]the Shia only or it is a cause for sectarian conflict and
[11:37]division however when we look at that particular day and what happened
[11:41]indeed this is a matter that all Muslims should be aware of
[11:47]all Muslims should be able to commemorate and recall what happened to
[11:51]the grandson of the holy prophet Hussein Ali the prophet himself wept
[11:55]over when we come to Dr Yas kavi indeed this action should
[11:58]be congrat ulated in addition to the fact that several month months
[12:04]ago in the convention known as isna here in the United States
[12:07]he came forward he gave a lecture in which he said to
[12:12]the people that despite the differences between the Muslim schools of thought
[12:17]sun and Sh and others we should not in any shape or
[12:20]form support any violence any aggression against the other despite our differences
[12:27]he called upon Scholars not not to incite their communities against other
[12:33]not to fuel hatred at the same time he admitted his mistake
[12:39]in the past he regretted what he had done in the past
[12:41]which in itself is a brave act which deserves to be congratulated
[12:48]yet when it came to his examination of karbala we respectfully disagree
[12:53]with many of the points that he presented in other words he
[12:57]came forward to discuss this issue but his anal is and his
[13:00]examination was full of historical inaccuracies and inconsistencies it was selective analysis
[13:08]and therefore when it comes to this particular discussion we need to
[13:12]come forward mention what was mentioned by this particular scholar and present
[13:20]a rational at the same time academic presentation in order for us
[13:27]to be able to be presented with the image of carala and
[13:30]the movement of IM Hussein that is truly one that is in
[13:35]correspondence with the history with what happened at that time when we
[13:42]come to analyze this we understand that any such discussion should be
[13:47]Cal unemotional should be rational and academic in other words the purpose
[13:53]of this is not to in any way discredit an individual or
[13:56]attack that particular person but at the same time there were issues
[14:01]that were mentioned in this lecture that deserves to be replied to
[14:05]misinformation in our opinion that needs to be mentioned for instance when
[14:13]it comes to Dr y's discussion what did he say the first
[14:16]thing that we can mention about his lecture and what was mentioned
[14:19]is the following that he relied heavily upon the works of IB
[14:24]tya IB Tamia of course is known to many people he does
[14:31]not have favorable opinions of the school of bit nor the bit
[14:36]themselves in other words IB and the like of likes of haani
[14:44]that were relied upon by Dr they came several hundred years and
[14:49]they wrote what they understood from kbal many hundreds of years yet
[14:54]what Dr khadi refused or did not do was to refer back
[15:00]to his historical texts that were written closer than these that he
[15:06]chose to reference for instance he does not quote from or the
[15:11]of Abu or other texts that were closer to the event ofala
[15:17]than the ones he chose number one number two there were several
[15:22]historical inaccuracies and problems like what like he would say like Z
[15:27]Ali was killed by the abbasids whereas clearly his history today all
[15:32]Muslims and historians come forward and say that Z Ali was killed
[15:39]by whom by Bena when we come to look at the finer
[15:40]points of what was mentioned in that particular lecture that may be
[15:44]heard by thousands of individuals and requires a calm academic analysis we
[15:52]are in need of looking briefly at the history before and prior
[15:56]to carala what do we know about what happened of course we
[15:59]know that according to the school of according to the sh for
[16:05]instance the prophet of [Music] Islam continuously throughout his life would emphasize
[16:19]the importance of alali to be his successor that is in the
[16:23]opinions of the followers of the B other schools of thought say
[16:28]no that he passed away way without leaving a successor and it
[16:32]was then decided amongst the sh of some companions in a place
[16:38]known as sakif whilst Ali was busy in terms of the rituals
[16:41]of the and the of the holy prophet some of the companions
[16:49]ma managed to gather in a place known as and they agreed
[16:54]amongst them to what to somehow elect or announce the first Abu
[16:59]Bakr as the kff for the Muslims the Shia say no the
[17:04]Shia has say and talk about for instance the incident of whereby
[17:08]over 300 Scholars outside the Shia 300 Sunni Scholars come forward and
[17:13]say that the prophet of Islam announced in a place known as
[17:21]whomsoever I have the over then this Ali has the will over
[17:27]what happened later of course is that the first Abu Bak appoints
[17:32]the second khif there is no more this is agreed upon amongst
[17:36]the Muslims that he selects whom he selects the second Khalifa something
[17:41]with the Shia indeed pose a question they say how is it
[17:47]that the first Khalifa saw it important to select an individual before
[17:50]he dies whereas would not leave a successor what happened thereafter is
[17:56]According to Islamic history different books of History they they say that
[18:01]the second khif one of the f one of the things that
[18:03]he did was to appoint muan as the governor of Syria as
[18:12]the governor of sham who was muawiya of course muawiya was the
[18:16]son of Abu sufyan both muawiya and Abu sufyan seemingly embraced the
[18:22]religion of Islam on the day of the conquest of Mecca yet
[18:25]their actions later on showed that they were not Muslims wholeheartedly we
[18:32]will talk about this in a few moments what we told in
[18:36]Islamic history thereafter is that mua built this Kingdom that mua stood
[18:41]to fight Al when Ali was the K mu later on what
[18:47]did he do after the martydom of Al his son Imam Hassan
[18:54]became the kff and after 6 months mua would want to wage
[18:58]Another War just like he had waged the war of sa against
[19:02]whom against Ali he would want to wage another war against Hassan
[19:06]there was a peace treaty that was signed and mua assumed the
[19:11]caliphate this is a very brief analysis of at least what is
[19:16]agreed upon by Muslim Scholars from both sides when it comes to
[19:21]early Islamic history later on maaah before he dies he places his
[19:29]son yazid as the kff and takes the oath of Allegiance from
[19:33]Muslims how by force yazid comes into power and on the year
[19:38]61 after Hijra IM Hussein is mared that is the brief history
[19:44]that we need to look at let's look at the detail of
[19:50]some of the things that Dr Yi said please pay attention to
[19:52]this so that you are aware of the version that should be
[19:58]respected from both schools of thought because tonight examination mostly will be
[20:03]from the books of our brothers in Islam the I have chosen
[20:08]not to take from the books of Shia deliberately in order to
[20:11]present the version of Islamic history that is what that is from
[20:17]the our brothers books and sources and historical works so that no
[20:22]one would say that you are biased in your analysis or examination
[20:25]when we look at the works of our brothers in terms of
[20:31]what Dr Ki said what did he say he said a number
[20:34]of things and tonight's examination will only look at a few points
[20:38]the first thing that he would mention is he would underplay the
[20:41]role of muaah by saying that he was a just individual a
[20:48]man who wanted the best for the Muslim Community and wanted to
[20:52]do what to keep it United would not mention more than that
[20:55]then he would talk about yazid and despite saying that yazid had
[21:01]blood on his hands he had some responsibility for the killing of
[21:05]IM Hussein he would say what that the main responsibility falls on
[21:09]the shoulders of whom the Shia in kufa he says those are
[21:15]the ones that are primarily responsible for the killing of IM Hussein
[21:19]he then goes on to say this respected Muslim scholar here in
[21:25]the United States he goes on to say what he says that's
[21:28]why several years later the Shia in kufa would beat their chests
[21:34]and today Shia are beating their chests because they feel remorseful due
[21:38]to the responsibility of killing IM Hussein he goes on to claim
[21:49]that Imam Hussein was seeking power he did not listen to many
[21:55]companions and therefore when he came forward he would go towards seeking
[22:00]this power and therefore he claims that the Shia believe that he
[22:05]knew he will be killed and in some way or another wanted
[22:09]to commit suicide or to kill himself whereas he claims the other
[22:13]side believe no he didn't he believed that he will attain Victory
[22:20]he will get what he wanted to get the final conclusion that
[22:23]Dr respected scholar says he saysa and please pay attention to this
[22:29]he says carala was a historical event it has nothing to do
[22:35]with theology it has nothing to do with a these are some
[22:38]of the points and the summary of the lecture of this particular
[22:43]scholar let's look at them one by one very briefly and answer
[22:46]them using what using texts and sources that are agreed upon by
[22:50]our brothers when you look at Ben umay what does Islamic texts
[22:57]and historical Works say about Bena Allah wa taala in the Holy
[23:02]Quran what does he say in the Holy Quran inah is verse
[23:05]number 60 he says Quran the almighty subhana tala in this Ayah
[23:18]says what addressing the prophet he says that we have given you
[23:22]oh made you go through a dream what was this dream saw
[23:26]in his dream there are monkeys sitting on the pulp it he
[23:31]woke up he spoke to the people about his dream the Quran
[23:34]says this dream demonstrates what the existence of a tree which is
[23:42]cursed question what is tree this tree that is cursed in the
[23:49]Quran here four books of T of our brothers they say the
[23:51]following the books of in these four Scholars come forward and say
[24:09]the cursed tree in the Quran are whom that it is this
[24:18]particular family that sought to fight the holy prophet and his sought
[24:22]to distort the teachings of the religion of Islam and spread corruption
[24:26]what about muawiya himself what does Islamic test say about mua look
[24:33]at for instance one of the six books of with our brothers
[24:38]he says one day Abbas the companion of he was in and
[24:43]what did he say he says why are people not mentioning the
[24:48]why is it that they're not saying it he was told that
[24:54]they are afraid of muaah Abbas States then he starts to recite
[24:59]what the he said even if doesn't agree then he says oh
[25:14]Allah sends you upon them they are changing the path of the
[25:20]Prophet due to the hatred of says muawiya was the first Islamic
[25:24]ruler who used to take what RBA usually then we go to
[25:33]the book of mmed that Dr refers to where in his examination
[25:36]in his sermon remember this is not necessarily A polemic discussion this
[25:42]is simply a rational academic way of looking at things mmed says
[25:49]what he says mua used to wear gold and silk which is
[25:52]forbidden for Muslim men he says he was the first ruler to
[25:58]drink alcohol openly this is found ined Volume 5 [Music] 437 another
[26:07]great Sunni scholar what does he say he says muawiya was the
[26:10]first that established the kingdom number one number two he's the first
[26:18]to perform the of sitting down remember these were all Innovations these
[26:24]were all B instituted and began by whom by mua sufyan says
[26:28]he is the first who recited the before because normally Muslims today
[26:35]they perform Sal then there is he says he was the first
[26:43]to initiate thean before he also says in the others were in
[26:48]what does he say he says when he was asked about one
[26:52]individual marrying two sisters he said that's fine that's okay whereas the
[27:00]Quran clearly prohibits an individual marrying two sisters who are alive what
[27:05]else do we find in Islamic texts he says prayed which day
[27:16]Wednesday he got his days wrong I think he prayed Sal on
[27:26]Wednesday likewise states that mu was the first individual who allowed people
[27:32]to call him what he allowed an individual to come and say
[27:37]to him this is whom a non scholar who says muaah did
[27:46]this now this was one way in which muaah was fabricating the
[27:50]religion of Islam what else was muaah doing mu began the cursing
[27:55]of Ali from the pulpits Al masi he says what he says
[28:03]that when it came to this cursing this was done across several
[28:07]pulpits Z says 70 of the pulpits in the Muslim land at
[28:13]that time would curse Ali people like in kuf who were placed
[28:21]by mu as the governor would instruct people to do what would
[28:25]instruct people to curse you might ask the question what is the
[28:29]punishment of an individual who does this that this continued for approximately
[28:34]70 years until the OM abolished it we have the important Hadith
[28:42]from Alim in his says whomsoever curses Ali has cursed me and
[28:58]whomsoever curses me then they are cursing Allah we find in sah
[29:05]Muslim what do we find this narration this narration states that said
[29:15]to that Ali only the Believers love you and only the Hypocrites
[29:23]hate you tell me if an individual Begins the cursing of Ali
[29:26]across the pulpits is he a lover or a hater of Amir
[29:32]reason and logic points to One Direction and One Direction only I
[29:40]would like to leave the discussion of mua with two Hadith from
[29:49]muhamad IM in in his M IM Ahmed these are all valuable
[29:57]Hadith that demonstrate how you and I and all Muslims should look
[30:01]at the personality of mua IB sufyan IM Ahmed in his mnet
[30:07]says what he said one day saw and when he saw them
[30:14]he said the following oh Allah lead them towards whom towards hell
[30:24]says what he says that the prophet said that is what in
[30:37]the lowest forms of Hell according to the holy prophet in a
[30:40]non Source highlighting what highlighting the extent of the danger of not
[30:47]looking at the reality of mua sufyan what else did muawiya do
[30:53]not only did he fabricate Hadith not only did he change things
[30:56]in the religion of Islam not only did he begin the in
[31:00]the cursing of Ali he was responsible for the killing of many
[31:03]of the companions of such ASI such as at least 45,000 Muslims
[31:11]in the Battle of what in the Battle of sa this is
[31:17]in brief some of the narrations that speak about muaah what about
[31:21]yazid because when it comes to ya Dr Ki says that despite
[31:26]having a role to play in the murder of IM Hussein in
[31:28]the killing of IM Hussein he does not mention a number of
[31:34]things about yazid muaah we are told that masi he says what
[31:37]he says that M yazid was a man who was drunker he
[31:41]was an individual who loved playing with monkeys he had a monkey
[31:48]by the name of Abu he loved this monkey he would take
[31:50]his this monkey with him everywhere and one day the monkey fell
[31:53]and was Trampled Under the horses and he died yazid what would
[31:59]he do yazid muaah he would perform the rituals of what of
[32:03]washing the body of the monkey of placing a caffin on the
[32:08]monkey and he said to the Muslims you must come and what
[32:10]display your condolences towards me because of a particular animal likewise what
[32:17]are we told we are told that when it comes to and
[32:22]and what did they say please pay attention to this they said
[32:30]that several years specifically in year 63 after Hijra the people of
[32:36]Medina what did they decide they said enough is enough that we
[32:40]will no longer succumb to the rulership of whom of yazid IB
[32:46]mu they ried around a man by the name ofd who is
[32:51]was a man who consumated his marriage at night before the Battle
[32:57]of in the morning he was one of the companions of rasool
[33:00]Allah he rallied to the call of the prophet he fought with
[33:06]the sahab he was mared in without performing the says he is
[33:11]the Mal are washing his body his son that was consumated the
[33:16]night before his name is Abdullah he was a righteous individual he
[33:19]was a m he was respected in Medina the people of Medina
[33:24]this is 3 years approximately after the tragedy of carala they said
[33:28]enough is enough they sent this man Abdullah towards Damascus where he
[33:33]went to see yazid he saw the practice of yazid when he
[33:37]came back he said by God I saw in there things that
[33:39]if I had remained God would send his punishment upon me I
[33:44]saw yazid being drunker I saw yazid playing with animals I saw
[33:49]yazid committing incest and therefore I was afraid that if I remain
[33:54]there the punishment of God will fall upon me hence what did
[33:59]they decide they decide to Stage an uprising when yazid heard of
[34:02]this remember this is where in and in many books of our
[34:08]brothers they decided yazid said that I will destroy this Uprising he
[34:14]sent an army of the size of 12,000 headed by the name
[34:16]Man by the name of Muslim what did they do they came
[34:21]they surrounded the city of Medina in a battle or a known
[34:24]as over three days dear brothers and sisters under the direction and
[34:31]the instruction of yazid muaah these individuals what did they do they
[34:34]plunged and plundered the city of Medina they killed several hundred s
[34:41]of they raped over 1,000 women they came to the mosque of
[34:47]the Prophet whereby the mosque of the Prophet was flooded with the
[34:50]blood of people next to the they tied their horses and dogs
[34:56]on the member of the next to the member of the prophet
[34:58]and the horses and the dogs would urinate next to the pulpit
[35:04]ofo for three days they stole and they plundered and they violated
[35:08]the sanctity of the city of the Prophet Dr Ki with all
[35:11]respect would not mention this in his lecture he would not talk
[35:17]about what yazid mua did to the city of then what did
[35:19]he do then yazid then directed The Army to go towards the
[35:24]Kaa to the city of Mecca what did they do in Mecca
[35:29]they threw catapults of fire onto the Kaa they destroyed the Kaa
[35:33]so yazid mua ruled the Muslim for three years in these three
[35:36]years he killed the grandson of the holy prophet violated the sanctity
[35:40]of the city of Medina and destroyed the Kaa can you imagine
[35:47]that today we stand to somehow in a shape or form not
[35:49]Place their blame on yazid or to say that we are not
[35:54]allowed to send the L of Allah upon this particular individual why
[35:57]is it that we are permitted to send the of Allah on
[36:01]this particular individual I take you to aith that is found where
[36:04]in and in many other texts especially in Muslim as well which
[36:10]says that the prophet of Islam says that the city of Medina
[36:16]is sacred whomsoever causes anyone to be killed in Medina in such
[36:30]a way then Allah sends his the prophet sends his and the
[36:34]Mal and the people in other words what the prophet is clearly
[36:37]stating in a Hadith found in imi's compilation that the L of
[36:43]Allah falls upon an individual who violates the sanctity of the city
[36:46]of Medina and we all know and agree in Islamic history that
[36:49]yazid muaah indeed committed this therefore when it comes to yazid there
[36:54]is no question about his vile characteristics about the personality that he
[37:01]had about the crimes that he had indeed committed yet when it
[37:07]comes to another point which is important that was mentioned by Dr
[37:12]Ki and that is that yazid was not necessarily responsible for the
[37:17]killing of Hussein he did not want IM Hussein to be killed
[37:22]how do we answer this I answer this with Five Points very
[37:25]briefly five evidence that I present from which refutes this misconception which
[37:32]unfortunately in his book has indeed also mentioned number one the famous
[37:40]historian he says ya was presented with the head of IM Hussein
[37:45]and he took a stick and he poked the head of IM
[37:49]Hussein and what did he say famously that yazid was reciting lines
[38:11]of poetry which says that Ben Hashim have taken Kingdom there is
[38:15]no Revelation there is no religion meaning what that if yazid was
[38:20]not responsible for the killing of Hussein why is it that historians
[38:23]outside the school of a bit say that he was poking the
[38:26]head of IM Hussein that he was happy and reciting these lines
[38:31]of poetry that's number one number two in the of we are
[38:36]told that when the governor of yazid and Medina received a letter
[38:41]from Yaz Yaz said to him take from Hussein and if he
[38:45]doesn't give you the B then do what kill him kill him
[38:48]yazid clearly states to his governor in Medina kill Hussein do you
[38:52]want more evidence than this what else do we find and say
[38:59]that yazid in many instances would say that I wish to kill
[39:04]Hussein Ali number four in his says the son of ya mua
[39:13]who is mua he was mua ya mu he became the kff
[39:15]after yazid died he became a kff only for a few months
[39:20]and then would say that my father committed atrocities he somehow in
[39:24]mysterious ways was killed this muawiya the son of yazid what happened
[39:28]was that we are told in narrations and historical works that mua
[39:33]the son of yazid would come forward and admit that his father
[39:38]yazid killed Imam Hussein that his father yazid was responsible for the
[39:43]killing of Imam Al Hussein and go forward and say that ya
[39:53]would give presence and reward for Z for killing IM Hussein therefore
[39:58]these five points and many others highlight what and demonstrate clearly that
[40:03]yazid mua as the ruler at that time as an individual who
[40:07]instructed zad to whom to surround IM Hussein and to shed his
[40:12]blood is the number one culprit and the responsibility primarily falls on
[40:18]the shoulder of this wretched individual yazid muaah that is clearly evident
[40:24]in history what else did this respected scholar say he comes for
[40:29]and says what about the Shia of kufa he says the Shia
[40:31]of kufa betrayed IM Hussein and therefore they beat their chests therefore
[40:37]they come forward and they cry and They Mourn and until today
[40:42]there is this mam beating of the chest to feel remorseful over
[40:45]what happened nearly 1,400 years ago the answer to this is the
[40:49]following first of all when we analyze the people of kufa and
[40:55]the makeup of the people of kufa clearly historically the following can
[41:01]be realized that the people of kufa were sh of Ali some
[41:04]of them politically not ideologically please pay attention to this meaning what
[41:08]that many times they would favor over the rest of the companions
[41:14]but they were not necessarily Shia in belief that's number one number
[41:21]two many historical records say that zad imprisoned several thousand prominent sh
[41:28]of and the dungeons were full like others were executed and killed
[41:38]like at the same time some of the real Shia of IM
[41:44]Ali and the left kufa and joined IM Hussein inala like whom
[41:51]like mus like like abdah others also did the same therefore this
[42:00]particular idea is not complete it is selective that the people of
[42:06]kufa truly yes they betrayed Imam Hussein but those who fought Imam
[42:11]Hussein were clearly not from the people of kufa because IM Hussein
[42:16]says to them IM uses the word the Quran uses the word
[42:23]sh the word sh doesn't necessarily mean the sh of sh means
[42:29]what sh means the follower and Imam carefully mentioned on the 10th
[42:33]of muharam that the people who are surrounding him and killing him
[42:37]were the followers of whom of Ben they were not his sh
[42:41]at the same time if somebody asked the question why do you
[42:44]beat your chest then today do you feel remorseful we say no
[42:49]beating the chests is part of the process of grieving of mourning
[42:54]of demonstrating our loyalty our love and respect towards what IM Al
[42:58]Hussein stood for it's a process of Reform its practice is allowed
[43:02]in the religion of Islam somebody might ask the question where is
[43:05]it found in the Quran I say to them look at chapter
[43:10]59 51 verse number 29 the story of prophet ibraim that we
[43:14]mentioned a few nights ago that when the wife of ibraim SAR
[43:20]was informed of the what of the news that she will bring
[43:26]a child she slapped her cheeks in other words what she was
[43:30]surprised by this action the Quran does not admonish her for this
[43:33]particular practice likewise you go to mmed what does he narrate he
[43:40]says that after passed away what occurred his wives would gather and
[43:45]they would slap their cheeks including the wife of the Prophet AA
[43:49]she would slap what her cheeks when it comes to the Shia
[43:55]today when they beat their chests it's not because they feel remorseful
[43:59]or guilty or in any way responsible for the killing of IM
[44:03]Hussein the responsibility Falls primarily on Ben and yaid mua and all
[44:07]his associates they do so as a demonstration of loyalty and the
[44:11]manifestation of the a of the Quran which states that he do
[44:20]not seek anything from you except to show love and respect towards
[44:24]my family members finally what does this particular scholar say he says
[44:29]IM Hussein somehow wanted to attain power that he would not listen
[44:36]to the advice of the companions this unfortunately demonstrates a very narrow
[44:41]very shallow superficial understanding of the movement of IM Al Hussein please
[44:46]bear with me for a few moments in order for us to
[44:51]somehow cement the idea of whydah Hussein the grandson of the Prophet
[44:55]would rise there are two two historical facts that are presented to
[44:59]dispel this idea number one IM Hussein did not wait for the
[45:05]letters of the kfin to announce the purpose of his mission when
[45:08]he was summoned to the house of Al the governor of Medina
[45:14]Ya's Governor when he was told pay Allegiance what did he say
[45:17]he would say that someone like me could never give to someone
[45:34]like him before any letters were received which means what which means
[45:41]IM Hussein had no motive other than to stand against oppression and
[45:45]Injustice it was not power that he was seeking he saw yazid
[45:48]muaw as a cancerous Legion which would what spread hypocrisy amongst the
[45:54]Muslim umah therefore he knew that it was his responsibility as an
[45:58]IM to rise and to stand against Injustice that's number one number
[46:04]two on his way tobala in an area known as here and
[46:06]others of the historians the scholars from other schools of thought they
[46:10]say the following they say im Hussein received news of the M
[46:16]of Muslim when he received news of the M Muslim what did
[46:19]IM do did he turn back if he only relied on the
[46:23]support of the people of kufa he would have turned back he
[46:25]would have said fine people of are not helping me I want
[46:30]to attain power I want to be the K I'm not able
[46:34]to do so let me go back he didn't he continued which
[46:36]demonstrated the Purity and the sincerity of his movement he wanted to
[46:41]establish justice and to stand to reform the umah of his grandfather
[46:45]the holy prophet peace and blessings be upon him and his holy
[46:50]progeny when you look at the words of IM Hussein what he
[46:52]said the mission and the objective of his movement becomes clear here
[46:58]what did he say in a number of places he would say
[47:00]things like for instance that this individual has given me an option
[47:16]either humiliation or the sword by God I will never humiliate myself
[47:20]never will I do so Allah and his messenger and the Believers
[47:25]would never accept this in another place he would say in I
[47:32]do not see death except prosperity and success and when it comes
[47:39]to life with the oppressors as a life which is misery he
[47:42]would mention in places I will never suum to you and submit
[47:52]to you like a slave like an individual who's disgraced or humiliated
[47:57]or run away from you meaning what meaning that IM Hussein was
[48:03]absolutely clear in his objective and his mission yes people would discourage
[48:07]him people would tell him don't go but he had to awaken
[48:09]the conscience of the umah he had to come forward and indeed
[48:16]fight this hypocrisy this Injustice that was spread around that time yes
[48:21]he was very well aware that his supporters were very few but
[48:25]the path of M to them sometimes awakens mankind it sometimes help
[48:34]people think and truly what happened aftera is testimony to this IM
[48:41]Hussein we believe is one of the as stipulated in the Quran
[48:50]that all Muslims believe that Hussein Ali is one of those that
[48:56]are included in this Ayah which which means what which means he
[49:00]is pure sinless era free he would not go for this world
[49:04]he would go in the direction of Allah subhanahu wa tala's command
[49:08]he submitted himself to the will of Allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala yes he
[49:11]knew that he would be mared many narrations would tell us that
[49:17]the prophet of Islam would say that my son Hussein would be
[49:20]slaughtered in the plains of carbal he understood this but he recognized
[49:24]is part of God's plan God's decree in no order for Injustice
[49:27]to be fought in order for the religion of Islam to be
[49:32]protected and cherished it is not that he sought some kind of
[49:34]killing oneself or suicide he went for the path of marom in
[49:40]order to keep the message and the light of Islam alive and
[49:43]to make sure that the Islam reaches you and I today and
[49:48]hence we find that Ben umaya continuously wanted to fight this particular
[49:53]Mission afterwards they would not want people to recall and to honor
[49:57]the tragedy and the sacrifice of IM Hussein it is inic really
[50:04]that IB T himself later on after authoring just to go back
[50:09]to the discussion he himself comes forward and states that what happened
[50:14]on the 10th of muharam is one of the worst catastrophes in
[50:17]the history of mankind and the killers of Hussein are the worst
[50:21]creations of Allah this is found in the book then he says
[50:30]may the of Allah fall upon Whom The Killers of Hussein this
[50:36]is in the words of i t in other words what in
[50:38]other words as Muslims we need to appreciate and understand and study
[50:44]the movement of IM Hussein in more detail for us not to
[50:48]misrepresent this image for us not to misrepresent the movement and what
[50:52]he sought to establish indeed on this particular night the night of
[50:55]ashur the mission of Imam Hussein was one that inspired the companions
[51:02]that were around him that he would gather them around that he
[51:06]would speak to them he would say to them by God I
[51:10]do not know what I do not know of more loyal and
[51:13]faithful companions than you and these people out there they're looking for
[51:19]me they're looking to shed my blood therefore you are free to
[51:25]go this was the compassion of Hussein this was the man that
[51:29]continues till today to Mesmerize individuals around the world despite the fact
[51:34]that we do not necessarily have a family relationship some of us
[51:38]or have seen him yet when we hear the word Hussein it
[51:45]Springs forth in our hearts hope and at the same time a
[51:48]sense of Rejuvenation therefore Hussein would say to them go take a
[51:54]member of my family and save yourself the first in individual who
[51:58]stood was his loyal faithful brother he would say to him what
[52:05]do we say to our grandfather the holy prophet on the day
[52:12]of judgment if we ever abandon you then Imam looks at the
[52:15]sons of ail he says go sons of Muslim and and ail
[52:20]gener he says why don't you go and save yourself they said
[52:24]by God we will never leave you until our swords fight for
[52:31]your sake thereafter the companions one after the other stand up people
[52:36]like an individual who truly demonstrated this loyalty and love towards the
[52:42]path of Freedom the path of Salvation and that is Hussein when
[52:48]we look at this path that Imam Hussein stood to establish this
[52:51]path which is to safeguard Islam it is not a historical matter
[52:54]like some Scholars say it is a theological concept why because B
[53:01]wanted to destroy Islam mua himself states that I dislike hearing the
[53:06]word Muhammad being recited inan I will make sure that it is
[53:16]buried under my feet this name Muhammad today the sacrifice of Hussein
[53:19]ensures that the name Muhammad is heard around the world it is
[53:27]a theological concept it's a matter of life and death it's a
[53:33]matter of salvation of the religion of Islam therefore what are we
[53:37]told we told would stand up and say if I'm killed and
[53:43]then burnt and brought back to life and if this happens 1,000
[53:46]times I will fight for youd these were the true Warriors these
[53:53]were the sincere companions who would not run away when Imam Hussein
[54:01]saw the saw their sincerity saw their devotion he would congratulate them
[54:05]he would say to them all of you will be killed tomorrow
[54:08]later on they would spend the night like the humming of the
[54:15]bees in prostration in Dua in Quran in Salah in one moment
[54:18]in one instance IM Hussein would leave in a night like this
[54:24]take your mind and your soul to carala millions are gathered now
[54:26]next to the shrine of take your mind there in that particular
[54:31]place what night was this this is the final night this is
[54:37]the night of wi the night of grief everyone was there with
[54:39]with their beloved it was the final night that they will be
[54:44]able to see them IM Hussein Ventures outside the tent behind him
[54:49]follows IM Hussein notices it's he says to him is this why
[54:56]have you come out says I saw you leave by yourself I'm
[55:00]afraid that the enemies may hurt you now IM Hussein says to
[55:05]him oh na can you see the darkness of the night why
[55:10]don't you run and save yourself why don't you go and save
[55:14]God your life Falls onto the feet of he saysin how can
[55:22]I desert you how can I leave you I will ensure that
[55:27]my body is cut into pieces and the sword plunges into the
[55:31]body of the enemies whilst fighting for you Imam Hussein returns he
[55:35]enters the tent say Z asks him abdah have you tested the
[55:41]will of your companions have you ensured that tomorrow they won't desert
[55:46]you IM Hussein said that's by God I've seen them and I've
[55:50]tested them they are like Warriors they will never run away here's
[55:54]this conversation goes toib he says ohib she's doubting our devotion calls
[56:06]the companions the family of the Prophet they come he says to
[56:12]them no no you scre Remain the companion stand outside the tent
[56:22]of peace and blessings be upon you oh the daughter of Ali
[56:27]we have come to demonstrate our loyalty we have come to say
[56:30]to you that by God we will sacrifice everything that we have
[56:36]for abdah indeed they did so on the 10th of muharam one
[56:40]by one they went to the battlefield and they did not come
[56:47]back Imam Hussein would stand on the tenth he looks and there
[56:50]are the bodies of his companions Muslim Joan abis others at that
[57:01]moment he knows that all of his family have also gone Ali
[57:08]it was time to bid his Farewell that there was one more
[57:14]thing that he had to do the narrations tell us that say
[57:19]Z came out of the tent underneath here was a six-month-old child
[57:25]Ali she comes to this child is dying of thirst his mother
[57:36]cannot produce milk can you ask those individuals maybe they will feed
[57:42]him some water maybe there is compassion in their hearts the narration
[57:49]tell us that Imam Hussein took his six-month-old child presented him before
[57:55]the army of Omar lifted him he said look at this child
[57:59]of mine if their adults have committed any crimes what is the
[58:06]fault of the children you can see that he's thirsty you can
[58:09]see that he's suffering take him and give him and quench his
[58:17]thirst the army of Omar were what disagreeing with each other there
[58:22]was a commotion brothers and sisters when it comes to children normally
[58:30]in the medical world today they use for vaccinations they use needles
[58:34]which are small they do not use needles which are big that
[58:38]are used for adults because the bodies of children are sensitive it's
[58:43]young looks at and oh har stop the dispute of people Hara
[58:54]says I took an arrow which is normally used to slaughter adults
[59:02]I looked at the six-month-old child I looked at his neck I
[59:08]could see the whiteness of his neck I directed The Arrow the
[59:15]arrow pierced from one side and he came out the other standing
[59:22]there with his young baby looks at this sight he sees the
[59:31]arrow penetrating he looks up to the heavens I can withstand what
[59:44]i is in front of me because Allah is watching allahar we
[59:48]are told that IM Hussein did not take the arrow out why
[59:53]why would Imam not take the arrow out because if he would
[59:56]do so the head would be decapitated the head of the six-month-old
[60:01]would fall IM Hussein picks up the blood of the six-month old
[60:06]baby throws it to the heavens IM says not a single drop
[60:15]Falls he covers the baby under his cloak walks back to the
[60:19]tent Su comes out my father have they fed my brother the
[60:29]young baby imin says to her oh my daughter take your brother's
[60:41]Lord narrations tell us that IM Hussein is leaving now it is
[60:47]time to Bid Farewell he comes and he bids farewell to all
[60:51]his family members one by one asks them to remain patient when
[60:57]he rides on his horse he is about to go to the
[61:02]battlefield he hears a cry from [Music] behind oh the son of
[61:12]zah come back Allah abbar when the name zah is mentioned IM
[61:15]Hussein cannot help but turn back this is his beloved mother F
[61:22]he turns back it's she says to him Dismount from your horse
[61:30]come down AB abdah comes down from the horse he says to
[61:33]her my sister Z you have suffed the arteries connecting my heart
[61:40]tell me why have you asked me to come back she says
[61:48]to let me see your neck let me see your chest IM
[61:53]Hussein shows her she comes and kiss is the neck of she
[62:00]hugs the chest of Hussein and looks towards Medina and says the
[62:14]trust that you have entrusted I have now fulfilled Imam says to
[62:19]her what is this trust tell me say in the final moments
[62:26]of the of mother mother she embraced me she kissed me she
[62:31]said to me bu Z my daughter Z in the final moments
[62:37]when your brother Hussein on the 10th of muharam goes to the
[62:42]battlefield hug him and kiss him but where my mother kiss him
[62:49]on his neck because it will be suffered and embrace him on
[62:54]his chest because the chest will be crushed under the hoves of
[62:59]the horses this is the night of Ash the night of Dua
[63:18]the night of Supplication the night of beseeching Allah subhanahu wa taala
[63:25]to forgive our sins to fulfill our requests and our desires and
[63:30]wants let's raise our hands to the sky and pray sincerely Allah
[63:43]Allah Allah Allah Allah Allah [Music] Allah let us raise our hands
[64:33]and pray using the a for [Music] let's rise for du for
[66:20][Music] m
