[0:28]e e [Music] in [Music] [Music] is [Music] in [Music] be [Music]
[3:01][Music] and and m [Music] [Music] Salam alikum everyone good to good
[4:19]to be back as you may know in the last couple of
[4:23]weeks uh with say Sal and a group of some of Mecca's
[4:28]brother and sisters went to omra and Zar alhamdulillah we came back
[4:35]last night sayah will be back inshallah tomorrow um he went to
[4:41]um to for the Z of IM uh all this time we
[4:47]kept you all in our prayers we ask Allah to Grant you
[4:50]the Zara of um the umra especially nowadays that we enter the
[4:56]month of rajab uh as you know is something uh would be
[5:02]nice to have and we ask Allah to grant us uh the
[5:08]OM inallah in the coming days and the coming years um there's
[5:11]not much to announce I no announcements uh as far as I
[5:16]know so maybe there is but inah we'll remind you later uh
[5:19]but for now uh please uh help me welcom after muhamad this
[5:45]was on this side last week right than you respected brothers and
[6:31]sisters and sisters and brothers just in case I know some people
[6:35]are sensitive about the order of this so we'll we'll alternate so
[6:39]nobody gets gets sad may Allah subh accept your your prayers your
[6:46]fasts as we enter the three the three sacred months this being
[6:53]the month of rajab which is the first of the three sacred
[6:55]ones I was asked last week to continue the theme that I
[6:59]was speaking about which was related to family issues last week we
[7:04]spoke about the relationship between the parents and the children um but
[7:08]because of the timing of today and being the beginning of rajab
[7:12]and the announcement that was made on the flyer also coincided with
[7:16]the being the May of rajab I thought I'd stick to this
[7:18]tee theme and inshah on some other occasion I'll be able to
[7:23]uh speak about the uh the family issues on on a deeper
[7:26]level inshallah so as we enter the the sacred months the three
[7:34]sacred months in Islam which are the months of rajab Shan and
[7:40]Ramadan these three months are specific months throughout the year where God
[7:48]had told us to pay extra attention to they differ from the
[7:50]other months of the year there are certain things that occur during
[7:53]these months and certain events that make them distinguished and different from
[7:59]the other months now we have narrations that describe these months by
[8:05]giving them a specific title so in the opinion of the general
[8:10]people the masses Shah Ramadan is the greatest month and then you
[8:17]have shaan next and then you have rajab as the third so
[8:22]they if you take it that way rajab is a uh the
[8:24]first step towards reaching that goal which is Shah Ramadan so you
[8:30]begin by preparing yourself from now now until you reach that level
[8:35]but there are people with different levels of spirituality there's the prophet
[8:40]Sall who has the highest level of or of God the nosis
[8:48]of God knowing god and then you go down after him with
[8:51]people with different degrees and different levels each individual has a different
[8:55]experience according to their level they experience these events these times these
[9:01]uh relationships because of these occasions with God in a different way
[9:07]so the more spiritual you are the different type of relationship that
[9:09]you have it's like if you love someone now there's the type
[9:12]of love that you have is more of a caring love you
[9:16]don't really experience that romantic feeling right you have the thing you
[9:19]know where you you know get to know someone maybe your spouse
[9:24]or your family member or a friend and the type of love
[9:26]that you have for them is a caring love you show them
[9:29]care you give them attention you you know work for them and
[9:33]nothing goes beyond that there's not really much of an emotional attachment
[9:37]to them now some parents might have this type of relationship with
[9:40]their children they feel like I'm a father or a mother and
[9:44]it's mostly on the father's side I don't have to express a
[9:46]lot of emotion towards my child they don't have that type of
[9:51]Love relationship or a spouse a husband and a wife or a
[9:53]wife and a husband you know perhaps the way they got married
[9:58]you know maybe it was arranged marriage maybe it was you know
[10:00]uh families who knew each other they said this is a good
[10:02]person for you and they got to know that person and that
[10:06]relationship stayed on that level and never really evolved emotionally so this
[10:09]is someone who you know you got married to and you want
[10:13]to raise a family with so you get along with one another
[10:15]you talk to each other every now and then but there's nothing
[10:17]really emotionally tying you both of you together and then you have
[10:24]people who have no they have deeper emotions they have emotions and
[10:27]they have feelings towards the other person they're they care about the
[10:31]individual not just on the outer level but really on a deep
[10:33]personal emotional level they love that person now that also differs in
[10:41]degrees you know you're you're chatting with your spouse you're talking on
[10:44]the phone or someone say oh I love you oh I love
[10:45]you too or I love you more you know things like that
[10:49]that might not be expressing the deepest level of love it could
[10:55]be one level of love because love is described as a gradational
[10:58]reality I don't if you heard that heard about this concept or
[11:02]term but if you go to like Islamic philosophy they use this
[11:07]term to describe the reality of God and the world they say
[11:10]it's a gradational reality they compare it to light if you take
[11:12]a light light bulb let's say or a source of light like
[11:15]the Sun or the light bulb or a candle or anything that
[11:17]emits light the closer you get to the source of the light
[11:23]where the light comes out from so the light bulb the bulb
[11:25]itself has the brightest light next to the bulb right the strongest
[11:32]light now the more you move away from the bul the source
[11:34]of light the weaker that light becomes right so you have a
[11:40]light here this is the this is the most lit area the
[11:41]more you move out and you move away from it the weaker
[11:46]the light becomes until it becomes Darkness what they call they call
[11:50]this gradational which means it has grades grades of intensity the closer
[11:53]you are to the source the the intense more intense it is
[11:57]the farther away you go the less intense it is so if
[12:01]we talk about love love is like that it's comparable to light
[12:06]it's gradational there's different grades so not every time you read the
[12:10]word love it's referring to the same amount of Love or the
[12:13]same understanding that you have of love it might mean something else
[12:17]so when in the Quran uh Allah tells us that you know
[12:24]um if you love the God and the prophet then follow the
[12:28]prophet your love has to be accom me with action this is
[12:31]a certain type of love where your love is reflected in your
[12:35]behavior it's not just something you claim it's not something you announce
[12:38]with your tongue you might feel it but it's not so intense
[12:41]that it's reflecting in your own behavior you might have something of
[12:47]you know 1% love towards the individual you have a nice feeling
[12:49]you know I love you you do have that feeling of care
[12:53]you have that feeling of giving attention but it's not so intense
[12:56]as to obey that individual and obedience on the deest level of
[13:00]Love isn't an obedience like we would look at dictators how they
[13:05]command you know people to obey them and listen to them and
[13:07]they do it out of fear no a person doesn't feel subservient
[13:11]in a bad way to the person that they love if you
[13:13]love an individual deeply you would do everything they want not because
[13:19]they're telling you to do it out of authority and command but
[13:22]rather because you love that individual you want to you see yourself
[13:26]dissolved in the individual you're absorbed in them you don't want to
[13:32]do anything that displeases them nothing that bothers them so a person
[13:37]with this type of attachment and love with God has a different
[13:41]type of experience during these nights and days and of course throughout
[13:46]their life but specifically these so we have the the scholars who
[13:51]they describe as Mystics right they're on a very deep level of
[13:56]spirituality they look at theith and they find another group of where
[14:01]the Prophet says that is the month of God this is inverse
[14:10]right so you think that sh Ramadan is is the best month
[14:16]but to these RAB is the greatest month for them because it's
[14:19]the month of God and then it goes it great uh it
[14:24]goes based on one two three soan and then Ramadan like that
[14:29]this is the etal experience that they have so they begin their
[14:34]deepest relationship and connection with God in this month but this is
[14:39]for specific group of people the prophet says that right it's for
[14:45]the general people so for us as general individuals someone like me
[14:48]I want to First work my way up in order to be
[14:53]able to experience the greatness of rajab where the Prophet used to
[14:57]consider it the greatest month in the of Allah subhana tala so
[15:02]for us as regular individuals we have to begin with the outer
[15:05]Journey we begin on the outside we follow this gradual steps we
[15:08]begin with Shah we start to train ourselves to reach that month
[15:14]of Ramadan that will be our goal month of Ramadan includes fasting
[15:20]it includes supplications prayers a certain type of dedication and a certain
[15:27]type of discipline that we don't usually have throughout the year so
[15:33]because it's very difficult for a person to change their habits overnight
[15:37]it's very important for us to use the month before the month
[15:40]of Ramadan to begin to change those bad habits that we have
[15:46]this is always our goal every single year Ramadan comes you're used
[15:51]to eating every single day different types of meals and of course
[15:55]we have the mecca of food here in America right in Dearborn
[15:57]right every Muslim you go to like wherever I go oh she
[16:03]where you from I'm I'm from Dearborn oh the food is amazing
[16:05]there it's like you know we we're known about nothing except food
[16:09]this is like our achievement as dear Warners we achiev the Pinnacle
[16:13]of of of food uh Delight or whatever whatever it is so
[16:16]we're known for food here some people are known for like you
[16:21]know making car Detroit like our neighbors like the cars right of
[16:23]California you know you got the computer chips and all that stuff
[16:28]there here we got the food alhamdulillah you know at least we
[16:32]got something so people come from all over the country to visit
[16:34]here just to eat and they don't come to get knowledge they
[16:37]don't get you know no it's the food so living in this
[16:42]food culture here of course uh the month of Ramadan is like
[16:45]the what the antidote the opposite of like what we what we
[16:51]experience it is a very big challenge for someone who doesn't have
[16:54]control over their their own appetite and it is for any regular
[16:57]person someone who does have that attachment to food it's still it's
[17:02]still difficult you know you're fasting for a large portion of the
[17:04]day you're not eating you're not consuming water or or uh food
[17:07]and it's not something that's natural for you then you're going to
[17:10]face a big challenge Shah Ramadan is going to you know become
[17:16]a month where you're trying to tolerate the suffering of not eating
[17:20]and not drinking so in order to ease yourself into it you
[17:24]have these two months that you can use to prepare yourself especially
[17:27]if you know that you're of those individuals who cannot tolerate drastic
[17:32]changes in your life especially when it comes to your eating habits
[17:38]so it's recommended that during these months you fast as much as
[17:42]you can not only to train yourself there's benefit in fasting in
[17:46]the month themselves but Our intention could be for this every week
[17:50]I'm going to fast one day just to break that habit and
[17:55]not only to prepare yourself for Ramadan but also to train yourself
[17:58]that after the month of Ramadan you don't want to break that
[18:02]habit of fasting you know it's recommended to fast throughout the year
[18:06]there are three months every three days of every month that are
[18:09]very recommended the 13 14 and 15 right the white or or
[18:17]14 15 16 so these days are recommended to fast every single
[18:21]month but if we put in our minds that Ramadan is the
[18:25]only month that I'm going to fast in because God has obligated
[18:27]this month then it pro proves to us that we as human
[18:32]beings we really do need God to force us to do things
[18:34]because if he doesn't Force us to fast Ramadan would we ever
[18:38]fast most of us I'm saying hardly do we ever volunteer to
[18:44]do things like this right fasting extra prayers extra duas we don't
[18:47]really do these in our lives because we're so occupied with other
[18:50]things so we want to change that perspective that mentality that we
[18:56]have I'm going to start fasting in rajab even if it was
[18:58]one day instill that in yourself that I'm going to do a
[19:01]recommended fast because I want to get myself into the habit of
[19:08]doing recommended acts outside of the areas where God has forced me
[19:11]to do them I don't want my relationship with God to be
[19:14]that one where I only do what he forces me to do
[19:18]you know it's like that child in a house they only obey
[19:22]the father or mother because they're forced to the moment they're out
[19:24]of the house or the parents are not looking they go do
[19:26]they do their own thing you don't want that type of relationship
[19:30]with God and God doesn't want that relationship with you either he
[19:34]wants a relationship to be based on mutual love and care but
[19:36]because as human beings we neglect ourselves our attention is on the
[19:41]outside for most of the time and not the inside God is
[19:46]forced to force us to try to create an Awakening inside of
[19:50]ourselves so this is one thing that we can keep in mind
[19:54]this year I'm going to fast at least one day in rajab
[19:58]if you can do more is even better but at least one
[19:59]day to instill in myself that I'm going to do recommended acts
[20:06]outside of the areas where I'm obliged to do this is going
[20:08]to reflect in your daily life as well extra prayers that you
[20:14]do you know how beautiful is it for a person just randomly
[20:18]to get up and do wo purify yourself and stand on the
[20:23]prayer mat and tell Allah I'm standing here because I want to
[20:28]pray two raas for you just to thank you you didn't tell
[20:33]me to do this you haven't forced me to do this but
[20:35]I'm going to do it because you've given me so many beautiful
[20:39]things in my life every single day you gave me so many
[20:42]so much blessings I want to get up and whatever these prayers
[20:46]I'm doing what they have no value in and of themselves it's
[20:51]not like I'm thanking God or I'm giving him enough of thanks
[20:54]for what he's given me but Allah appreciates that to get up
[20:57]and to say Allah I'm going to pray this is from the
[21:00]bottom of my heart you did not ask me to do this
[21:03]you not force me to do this I want to do this
[21:06]because I want to appreciate I want to show you I appreciate
[21:07]what you're giving me even if it was too sincere throughout our
[21:12]life how many times have we done this if God wants to
[21:15]treat us the way we treat him then he should neglect us
[21:19]throughout the whole year we don't give him attention we don't care
[21:23]for him we don't talk to him as much as we should
[21:26]right and then if we come and we perform two from the
[21:30]bottom of our hearts that might be the opening the spiritual opening
[21:34]that we're asking for Allah will appreciate it so much it will
[21:40]give you something and much more in return so we have to
[21:42]begin to try to change this type of relationship that we have
[21:47]with God especially here in the west we have this opportunity because
[21:49]the culture that we're growing in here or that we've grown in
[21:53]is a culture that doesn't really instill this idea of dictatorship or
[21:59]authority in the general type of relationships that we have in the
[22:02]society you know sometimes if you're growing in a family where the
[22:08]father or the mother or the family members the uncles have this
[22:11]hierarchy of authority and they base their relationships with their children on
[22:16]authoritative uh Behavior then the child usually grows up thinking that God
[22:22]is also authoritative like that whenever they picture God they picture God
[22:25]like their father or their mother you know God is command in
[22:29]me to do things if I don't I'm going to get in
[22:30]trouble I'm going to be punished right so there becomes a problem
[22:36]here first of all we have to get out of that state
[22:40]to understand that God does not behave like my parents God doesn't
[22:43]have any personal grudges against me God doesn't have any personal issues
[22:47]against me or with me God doesn't deal with me as a
[22:52]regular human being does you need to get yourself out of that
[22:56]state and mentality and then you move on to contemplating and thinking
[23:00]about the type of relationship that God has with you okay I
[23:04]want to understand how does God look at me how should my
[23:07]relationship with him be and you contemplate you look around you in
[23:14]our duas the imams teach us a lot of things a lot
[23:16]of key ideas that will help us understand this type of relationship
[23:19]they tell us that thank God the one who gives you blessings
[23:26]before you even ask for them this is a type of relationship
[23:29]that God has with you he's so loving and caring for you
[23:35]that before you ask for the thing he gives it to you
[23:40]what type of relationship does that resemble I think in the home
[23:44]most of the time the mother would be like that where the
[23:48]mother feels what the child wants and she kind of understand what
[23:53]her child wants and she makes sure that she can give the
[23:57]child that thing even before they ask for her the moment that
[24:01]the child desires something you want to provide it for that child
[24:05]Allah subh looks at us that way the moment we feel for
[24:11]something that I want something God wants to give it to us
[24:13]even before we ask for it and we see it in our
[24:17]lives many times you know in theith and the commentaries of our
[24:20]when they talk about prayers and supplications they tell us that Dua
[24:24]isn't only what you say with your mouth it's only not only
[24:28]what you ask for verbally there can be the Dua of the
[24:31]heart too that God also looks at and God also answers sometimes
[24:36]you're sitting down and you just desire something Allah listens to that
[24:40]because God says that he knows The Whispers inside of our hearts
[24:43]he knows the language that we speak the speech that we have
[24:48]inside of our souls so he gives us these blessings before we
[24:52]even ask for them he forgives us for so many transgressions that
[24:55]we do so there are so many things that God overlooks and
[25:00]this is how we should understand our relationship with him if there's
[25:05]if he's such a loving God such a caring God such a
[25:10]God that gives us this love and wants it on the deepest
[25:16]level and I have to change my perspective of him I shouldn't
[25:19]look at him as this dictator or a being that only wants
[25:23]to punish me and wants to force me to do things in
[25:24]order to get some self-satisfaction right a lot of dict creers they
[25:31]love this feeling of authority and power why do they order the
[25:34]the people below them or beneath them to do things is because
[25:36]it it has a self-satisfaction for them right well God doesn't have
[25:42]that he doesn't need to feel satisfied personally so when he commands
[25:46]me to do something I have to understand that that command is
[25:49]there because of a benefit for myself I have to change that
[25:52]perspective why does God want me to do this and not do
[25:56]that why does he put so many limitations on me well we
[25:59]all know as human beings that we cannot live without limitations we
[26:02]need them we need something to regulate our lives but the way
[26:07]you go about understanding why God does it is also very important
[26:11]that's why Imam categorizes the people into three right he said that
[26:15]there are some people who view God in a transactional way that
[26:19]I'm going to do this salot because I want to get this
[26:22]benefit and reward and this is the relationship of a businessman of
[26:28]a merchant and there are certain people before Islam this is how
[26:33]they used to deal with God right whenever they wanted whenever God
[26:36]wanted something from them they would tell them okay we'll do it
[26:41]for you but you do this in return or you know a
[26:46]group of people in uh in Mecca when the when the when
[26:52]Islam was revealed through the angel Gabriel Alam in the Quran this
[26:56]incident is mentioned it was a group of uh people who belong
[26:58]to the religion of Judaism in Mecca at that time there was
[27:03]a certain group of people who objected to the prophet and they
[27:08]told them look we believe in God we believe in The Messengers
[27:10]we believe he sends angels we we believe in in God's message
[27:16]and and what Moses and David brought but we have a problem
[27:22]with Gabriel throughout the years Gabriel was the one who kept bringing
[27:26]God's punishments to us we don't like this guy so accept Islam
[27:31]will accept the message if God sends Michael instead the angel of
[27:35]mik tell God go back to God and tell him let him
[27:39]send the Revelation through mik through Michael and he'll accept it but
[27:42]as long as it comes from Gabriel we this guy we just
[27:46]don't want to hear from him we have a toxic relationship with
[27:49]Gabriel so as long as it's from him we're not going to
[27:54]accept it and Allah then revealed in the Quran that whoever is
[27:56]an enemy to Gabriel is an enemy to Allah as well it's
[28:00]not you who decides how God sends his message so there are
[28:05]people like that they look at God they only remember him when
[28:08]they want something they only remember him when they need something you
[28:11]feel like your life is not going the way you want or
[28:15]you have opportunities that you want to reach suddenly you become closer
[28:18]to Allah subhana tala you start praying and I'm not saying it's
[28:22]a bad thing it's still good even if you're doing it for
[28:24]that reason it's still good because you are trying and you are
[28:27]communicating with God and God will accept it but it's not the
[28:32]best that you should aim for as a Believer you should always
[28:34]aim for the best in your life the other type of relationship
[28:40]is based on that fear you obey certain individuals in society in
[28:45]your family household because you're scared and some people are like that
[28:49]with God the Imam describes as individuals as the relationship being that
[28:55]of a slave or a servant you have a slave master and
[29:00]you have a slave or a master and a servant the servant
[29:06]obeys the master because he or she is scared not because they
[29:08]want to if they had the choice they wouldn't do it but
[29:12]because God has said that if you know if you do certain
[29:13]things and you don't do other things you're going to go to
[29:18]hell you're going to be punished based on this they act and
[29:21]they move and they behave and then the Imam gives another category
[29:24]which is based on the emotion of love and the IM says
[29:30]that this is the worship of the free persons you're free from
[29:38]that fear as Allah says in the Quran the Believers reach a
[29:42]point where they have no more fear there's no more fear in
[29:45]their heart they have Tranquility they have peace they have proximity to
[29:52]the Divine and this is the relationship that the Imam says is
[29:55]the best type of relationship to have and everybody can achieve it
[29:58]it it's just a matter of changing your perspective your mentality your
[30:02]type of behavior your understanding of God God doesn't hate you God
[30:07]doesn't want to punish you God doesn't want you to fail in
[30:09]your life in fact he wants the opposite and if he ever
[30:14]does make things obligatory upon you it's because there's that aspect or
[30:17]element of discipline that's necessary for us as human beings to have
[30:21]in order to perfect ourselves and improve ourselves because most of the
[30:26]time we're not disciplined as individuals we need laws and sometimes even
[30:31]with laws we're not disciplined just go out on the streets a
[30:34]few miles down see the driving there we have laws that dictate
[30:39]how people should drive and still people can't follow it and you
[30:42]see the chaos that happens a lot of accidents a lot of
[30:46]people losing their lives because some people just don't want to be
[30:49]disciplined where they have to be disciplined now you don't have to
[30:52]be under laws like in in an excessive manner all the time
[30:57]there has to be some room for us as humans to develop
[30:59]ourselves not always do things because the law dictates for us to
[31:06]do that but there is a bare minimum where we need someone
[31:08]to discipline us because if there isn't that discipline then we're going
[31:12]to be chaotic and we're not going to be individuals we're able
[31:16]to improve ourselves it's like somebody you know who uh is told
[31:20]that okay you can do a test but you can do it
[31:25]an infinite amount of times for your University or your school you're
[31:28]never going to be motivated to study for that test because you
[31:32]think to yourself okay if I fail just do it again if
[31:35]I don't do well this time I'll do next time and if
[31:39]not next time I have an infinite amount of times this is
[31:41]how the human self is it believes that is going to live
[31:47]forever it procrastinates it keeps delaying things day after day after day
[31:51]after day if there wasn't deadlines most of us won't finish the
[31:54]work that we have to do so discipline is an important factor
[31:59]in our lives and God when he deals with us he deals
[32:01]with us as human beings not as angels and people used to
[32:06]object to God when Islam was revealed the Quran tells us about
[32:09]individuals who told God why don't you send us an angel instead
[32:13]of a human being why don't you send us another creature some
[32:17]Divine you know uh creature that you know is flying in the
[32:20]sky or has some magical powers why did he send us a
[32:25]human Prophet because the message is for you human beings God used
[32:30]every means of communication for us as humans to understand as humans
[32:35]if he sent us an angel or a Superman or someone then
[32:39]we're going to always say okay look that's Superman he can do
[32:44]it right I'm not Superman I can't do it but God spoke
[32:46]to us on our level as human beings he sent us a
[32:51]human prophet he used human language to speak with us he involves
[32:55]our emotions when dealing with us and he tries to regulate our
[33:02]life why in order for us to understand his wisdom and his
[33:05]care and his love and to get closer to him so what
[33:08]we can do in rajab to go back to the main topic
[33:11]is to try to use this month to change that relationship and
[33:14]change that perspective in this month I'm going to do extra things
[33:18]in Ramadan I forced to fast there's a kind of pressure for
[33:24]me to read Quran I'm going to do it voluntarily in this
[33:27]month even if it was one time it would be good it's
[33:31]a good change to do so it's recommended to fast in this
[33:33]month there are other things that are recommended as well and that
[33:38]is for example to do certain invocations which is Vick that are
[33:43]not recommended as much in other months one of them is to
[33:47]recite to contemplate over that to recite it throughout the day to
[33:53]think about it that there is nothing in existence except God there
[33:58]is no deity no God to worship except God and we have
[34:00]in our Hadith that whoever listens to something has worshiped it whoever
[34:08]sees something has worshiped it when you give your attention you give
[34:11]your care you give your focus and your feelings to something that's
[34:14]a form of worship you're becoming subservient to it you're following that
[34:19]thing you're allowing that thing to control you therefore it's a form
[34:24]of worship so I'm going to focus this month on saying to
[34:28]remove all deities from my heart whether they're my senses that I'm
[34:31]using to worship those things or my heart internally I want to
[34:38]purify everything if I'm listening to something I want to make sure
[34:41]that I'm listening to something that's good if I'm saying something I
[34:44]want to make sure that I'm saying something that's good I want
[34:47]to cut out my bad habits I don't want to speak negative
[34:49]about people I don't want to backbite I don't want to listen
[34:54]to negative things to wrong things I don't want to watch things
[34:56]that are bad for me so these are things that we have
[35:01]to focus on this month watch over yourself so that when Ramadan
[35:04]comes the month of Ramadan comes I'm already prepared I've already moved
[35:08]up the spiritual ladder now when I fast in the month of
[35:12]Ramadan I'm not only suffering physically in fact I'm receiving that spiritual
[35:15]benefit that I'm supposed to be receiving when I'm fasting as the
[35:19]prophet said that some people when they fast all they get from
[35:22]it is hunger and suffering and pain whereas the prophet and the
[35:29]imams and and the pious individuals they're progressing on the spiritual level
[35:33]when they're fasting they're gaining close proximity to Allah they're purifying themselves
[35:37]and this has to happen gradually it doesn't happen overnight so another
[35:42]thing that we do recommended to be recited a thousand times this
[35:47]month divide it every day I want to say it 10 times
[35:52]I want to say 100 times I want to say it 50
[35:55]times and when you say it contemplate over it if saying it
[35:57]100 means that you're you're not going to be thinking about it
[36:00]you're just trying to finish it then say it 10 times but
[36:03]with contemplation close your eyes sit in a quiet place try to
[36:08]remove everything from your mind except God this is one method to
[36:14]to do in order to practice another thing that's must to do
[36:18]another invocation is it's recommended to be recited how many times how
[36:29]much more 10,000 yes 10,000 times it's recommended you don't have to
[36:37]do 10,000 they say if you can't do 10,000 do a th
[36:40]if you can't do a thand do 100 if you can't do
[36:44]100 do 10 if you can't do 10 do one always use
[36:45]this when it comes toar invocations use this if something is recommended
[36:51]to recite a thousand times always keep in your mind that you're
[36:54]also allowed to recite 100 if you can't 100 then 10 you
[36:56]just you add zeros if you can do 10,000 you can do
[37:00]more you can do 100,000 some people do it that like that
[37:04]but always re always do it based on your own capacity don't
[37:06]look at the number and try to force yourself to get the
[37:12]number no the number is there according to your capacity if you
[37:14]can't do 10,000 you do a thousand if you can't do a
[37:18]th if you're not used to invoking then start small because the
[37:21]Imam says a small amount that's consistent is better than a large
[37:27]amount that's inconsistent if I say I'm going to pray a thousand
[37:30]Reas every day okay the first day I pray them the second
[37:35]day I'm starting to feel that you know maybe I made the
[37:40]wrong decision here the third day you're like you know God is
[37:42]merciful he's not he understands I can't do this I'm just going
[37:45]to stop doing it okay is that better or if I pray
[37:49]Tas every day for a whole year is that better which one's
[37:52]better the consistency spiritually consistency is very important not the amount of
[37:58]that you do but the consistency in what you do this is
[38:04]a spiritual recommendation or instruction that are prophet and the IMs and
[38:09]our give us consistency is key to changing yourself internally don't look
[38:14]at the amount the quantity look at your consistency so if every
[38:17]day you can do an extra it's better to do that for
[38:23]a whole year than to do 100 today 100 tomorrow for a
[38:25]week and then end it consistency a lot of people say oh
[38:29]I'm having like an or Dua list that I want to do
[38:32]throughout the year and then they keep adding and adding and adding
[38:34]to it until they reach a point where they can't do them
[38:39]and they end up leaving the whole list that's the reaction that
[38:42]you get so don't keep adding to your list have a small
[38:44]list but be consistent with it that's what's important so the other
[38:52]recommended thing is again 10,000 is the number but also they say
[38:56]1,00 100 10 or one if you realize they're connected to the
[39:04]Divine aspect of connected to Allah that's where the Prophet said this
[39:10]is the month of God so in this month you want to
[39:13]purify yourself you want to remove all the things that disconnect you
[39:17]and detach you from God so that when sh comes all you
[39:19]can see is him try to change your habits you can't change
[39:24]all of them pick one Habit to change I am someone who
[39:29]has anger issues and I always use this as an example because
[39:32]it's always a problem for most of us and nowadays it seems
[39:37]like people are just getting angry and angry and angrier nobody has
[39:41]any type of Tolerance anymore you go to Super Market you just
[39:46]you know you turn around incorrectly someone yells at you you do
[39:49]something everyone's just screaming and yelling so if you find yourself in
[39:53]that position throughout the day or that situation put that as your
[39:57]goal I'm going to try and this month of rajab for the
[39:59]sake of Allah I am going to control my anger for at
[40:04]least 3 days I want to be patient put goals for yourself
[40:10]and it happens to be that you know if if the month
[40:11]of rajab is not good enough for you to put resolutions then
[40:16]it happened to be that the beginning of the month coincided with
[40:19]the new year right everybody has res New Year resolutions here yes
[40:23]no no okay is that because it's not a Islamic thing or
[40:28]because I don't like resolutions both okay well okay so put resolutions
[40:35]on next day so it doesn't coincide with the first day but
[40:38]it's always good to put goals for yourself even if there were
[40:41]small ones so don't say I'm going to become you know um
[40:44]a saint in one day no I want to remove one bad
[40:47]thing and if you remove one bad thing from yourself you're already
[40:50]above the majority of humankind because most people don't care about improving
[40:53]themselves on that level so if you can change one bad thing
[40:56]inside of you then you're already ahead of so many people you're
[41:01]already successful and you've already paved the way for you to gradually
[41:05]improve and change to the better so start with small goals consistent
[41:07]goals keep that in your mindan sometimes comes and says oh you're
[41:11]feeling very spiritual how about you ask the and then you start
[41:17]reading it you start realizing okay I was I was tricked into
[41:19]this you because Shan does that he comes through Dean through religion
[41:24]to make you leave religion as that one person who I think
[41:29]I've told you the story before that he came to IM and
[41:34]uh actually the IM was telling someone that when somebody becomes a
[41:42]Believer take them up the ladder gradually don't give them so many
[41:46]things that they cannot carry and it'll break them then he told
[41:48]them of the story of the man who converted to Islam there
[41:52]was a guy who was a Muslim like you know we have
[41:55]a lot of the dawa guys right they go they want to
[41:57]convert everyone they but they don't tell them there's like the fine
[42:01]print that they don't mention to anybody Islam is this and beautiful
[42:06]and Allah and and Brotherhood and this and that this guy like
[42:09]oh my god I've never like felt this this beauty in my
[42:14]life Community bonding God one and good and evil it sounds amazing
[42:16]y I want to become Muslim all right come do the shahada
[42:19]does the shahada and this is I'm changing the story a little
[42:24]bit but it's the same lines the IM says this guy he
[42:26]beautified Islam for this individual so basically he did all this stuff
[42:30]he marketed Islam to him right this is the da people whereas
[42:36]Islam is shouldn't be dealt with in this way so this guy
[42:42]becomes Muslim and the guy that converted him he knocks on his
[42:46]door in the middle of the night and that guy wakes up
[42:51]from his sleep he shocked like never never had anyone knocking on
[42:54]this door this early in the morning right it's still dark outside
[42:57]it's not even the morning and the guy he opens the door
[43:02]he's like oh the guy that converted him he's like what is
[43:04]there something wrong did something happen he said no no we have
[43:05]to go to the Masjid we have to do Salah we have
[43:08]to read Quran So This Guy's new he doesn't know anything right
[43:12]he's going to trust what this guy's telling him so the IM
[43:14]says he takes him to the mid it wasn't even morning prayer
[43:19]time for morning prayer yet it was night prayers this guy's like
[43:25]extra vigilant so he takes him there the guy sits down okay
[43:27]now start start praying start reading Quran until the aan comes so
[43:30]the guy thinks okay I got to do this so he starts
[43:33]reading the Quran he starts praying he imitates what the guy's doing
[43:36]thean comes they get up they pray Jama together andan finishes the
[43:42]guy said okay I'm exhausted I want to go back to sleep
[43:44]I'm tired I God knows what time he slept he wasn't planning
[43:48]to get up this early in the morning so he gets up
[43:52]he finish Salat he wants to go home and the guy tells
[43:53]him no no no no where are you going where are you
[43:55]going he's like what what's going what's going on I thought we
[43:57]finish Salat he said yes but time is in just in a
[44:02]few hours so how about you just we stay here we have
[44:05]the Quran is good to read the Quran it's good to do
[44:07]it's good to do this and that let's just stay until it's
[44:11]prayer so the guy you know Under Pressure he doesn't know maybe
[44:15]this is the right thing I got to obey Allah he stays
[44:19]until the time and the same thing happens he finish and and
[44:22]the IM tell the guy tells him um after and prayer hey
[44:27]m is just in a few hours especially if it's a winter
[44:31]night right the difference between and and the time between and is
[44:35]very short only a few hours so the guy stays he prays
[44:40]and as soon as he was done this guy flew to the
[44:42]house he went back home the next morning again before fidget time
[44:51]he hears a knock on the door the guy opens the door
[44:53]and he says he sees his Muslim guy that converted him there
[44:57]conver of him was standing over there he's like what do you
[44:59]want he's like we have to go to the m he's like
[45:01]get out of here you and your religion I don't want to
[45:04]do have anything to do with you the IM says this that
[45:09]the guy that brought him into Islam is the same guy that
[45:11]took him out of Islam why because the guy he can't handle
[45:17]this much take him slowly and gradually so Shan uses this method
[45:21]he throws weight on us in the name of religion in the
[45:26]name of being good and spiritual in order to get us out
[45:29]of spirituality this is one of the tactics that he uses so
[45:34]be careful one of the equations or formulas that our Scholars give
[45:37]us is that only do as much as you can do on
[45:43]your worst day the worst spiritual when you're feeling the lowest spiritual
[45:47]uh feeling that you have what you can do on that day
[45:49]is what you're going to use as your schedule for the rest
[45:54]of the year because you want to be able to be consistent
[45:56]right that's your goal to be consistent then you have to be
[46:01]able to do these things because you have days where you're going
[46:03]to be very low some days you're spiritually high some days you're
[46:07]spiritually low low so you have to be able to maintain that
[46:11]consistency which means on your worst day how much can you do
[46:15]five Salat or five di or five duas yes if that's how
[46:21]much you can do on your lowest day then even if on
[46:24]other days you feel much better spiritually and you can do much
[46:27]more don't do them as part of your consistent program if you
[46:31]want to read an extra chapter on that day okay but don't
[46:34]make your program based on oh I'm feeling very spiritual today I'm
[46:37]GNA make a program for the rest of the year you put
[46:39]du and I'm going to recite it every day and I'm going
[46:43]to recite I'm going to do this I'm going to do that
[46:44]and then as soon as your mood and your spirituality fluctuates and
[46:47]goes down realize you can't do anything and then you break that
[46:53]Inc that consistency then you feel low your mood goes bad you're
[46:55]a failure you can't you know do anything in life you start
[46:58]criticizing yourself and you leave the religion for a long time you
[47:05]just do your now so be careful of this don't look at
[47:08]you know especially of a lot of us you know on the
[47:13]nights of they put the PowerPoint with all these and then people
[47:17]sit here and they feel like they're forced to do this right
[47:20]you're not if you realized each of those is a separate Hadith
[47:27]that the IM gave to a certain individual so it's not like
[47:30]the IM told everybody here's a list do all this stuff no
[47:34]what do the scholars do they looked at a Hadith one person
[47:36]asked IM what to do said okay recite thisas in the of
[47:41]he told him Only this thing another person asked him or another
[47:44]IM he told him another thing so the imams didn't give him
[47:49]the list they gave him one specific act what we did is
[47:51]we got all of these we put them together and it's like
[47:54]we are told to do all of this at once right no
[47:57]if I went to the IM and I asked him what do
[47:59]I do on this night he might tell me to do one
[48:01]thing or two things he might tell me something not even on
[48:05]the list right so we have to keep in mind it's not
[48:07]about how much we do on this night of for example yes
[48:11]it's must to stay awake all night it's must to do Dua
[48:13]must to Quran it's must to be awake and Vigilant as much
[48:18]as you can and you train yourself throughout and throughout Shan to
[48:22]do this to pray more to be more focused in them but
[48:26]again if you can on that night to have one sincere prayer
[48:32]to God it's much better than doing a 100 Focus always on
[48:35]sincerity that's because we're not buying and sell it's not a stock
[48:38]market with God we're not buying and selling we're trying to build
[48:44]this pure sincere relationship God I want to be closest to you
[48:46]I want to do something from my heart but really I can't
[48:51]read the whole Jo I can read two segments five segments with
[48:53]Focus okay then do that that do doesn't mean that you always
[48:58]take the minimum sometimes you got to give yourself a push yes
[49:00]but don't push yourself too much that your break yourself and don't
[49:04]hold back so much that you never progress in your life always
[49:08]look for that internal balance so these are just a few words
[49:11]that I wanted to share with you some things that um might
[49:15]assist us during this month it's a blessed month we ask Allah
[49:17]subhana tala to grant us the ability to get closer to him
[49:22]during these months and to be able to do this in a
[49:25]rational and acceptable way salaat [Music] [Music] muham for [Music] be [Music]
