The Benefits of Fasting

There are several benefits that fasting offers:
1. Fasting allows you to taste hunger that creates empathy so that you can help the poor. There is a difference between sympathy and empathy. Empathy means when you try to experience the pain that someone goes through. Statistically, Muslims are more generous in the month of Ramadhan as they are experiencing some level of discomfort and suffering.
2. Lady Fatima said that through fasting, Allah SWT is training us to be sincere (as we cannot visibly show our fasting).
3. The month of Ramadhan is a great opportunity to break us from our daily habits, including the negative habits. In the month of Ramadhan, our schedule changes. These changes are healthy in helping create positive habits.
4. It develops the nafs. This is because when we resist our desires, it empowers our nafs.
