[1:20]chapter number 12 in the Quran so that you've Yusuf is said
[1:26]to have been revealed when a group of Jewish scholars asked a
[1:30]group of mekin idolaters to ask the Prophet Muhammad upon some details
[1:36]of the life of Yusuf and the response was this revelation which
[1:47]by the way when you read is the only chapter which relates
[1:52]a story of any figure in a chronological form so you notice
[2:01]the stories of the other prophets such as ASA or Ibrahim or
[2:06]Musa there is mention in different chapters however with so let's use
[2:11]of it is one remembrance and it is remembered in a chronological
[2:15]fashion as well in the same way that a story is mentioned
[2:20]and it is unique chapter 12 is unique in this regard so
[2:24]the reply came in the form of a revelation and this corresponds
[2:31]with what you read today in the Bible in the book of
[2:34]Genesis chapters 37 to 46 and it was common for those who
[2:42]were skeptical about the message of Islam in the beginning to ask
[2:47]the prophets certain details about figures from the past such as yusuf
[2:52]or such as ibrahim and sometimes you find some verses which begin
[2:59]with the word yes Allu naka meaning they ask you and usually
[3:06]these come from either from within the outside the Muslim community that
[3:09]they are asking the Prophet about certain details or sometimes from within
[3:14]the Muslim community some of the Companions of the Prophet would ask
[3:19]certain details about certain things which were revealed in the Quran and
[3:26]what is interesting is even though the Prophet revealed to them these
[3:32]details many of them still did not want to accept Islam and
[3:40]the message of Islam and the Quran says well jihad will be
[3:44]Hamas they ferrata and for him that truly on the inside they
[3:49]had yaki and they they knew that there was conviction they had
[3:52]conviction they knew that it was the truth well jihad OB ha
[3:57]was safe and essa and for him however they fought against it
[3:59]even though deep down they knew that it was the truth for
[4:03]whatever reason sometimes were revealed the truth but we don't accept it
[4:07]because because for instance our ego does not allow us to accept
[4:13]it such as such was the case with many of those who
[4:14]came in contact with what sort of loss of Allah how do
[4:19]you know why he was sent him and what's interesting is that
[4:23]some made the claim during that time that the Prophet was taught
[4:27]he was M'Lynn he was taught by people of earlier traditions and
[4:32]this is where the revelation came and if you study if you
[4:35]look at Orientalism and and Orientalism is is the study of Near
[4:42]East religions and something which has been around for the past few
[4:45]in the late 70s there were a number of oriental scholars that
[4:50]through their own study came to a number of conclusions one group
[4:56]of orientalist came to the conclusion that everything that the Prophet Muhammad
[5:01]SAW Nalani who I do send I'm said was taken from scholars
[5:04]of Christianity and Judaism and so he came up with his own
[5:10]religion where he took pieces from here and from there and he
[5:13]put that together and came up with the religion of Islam now
[5:18]we're not gonna sit and refute everything that they said because that's
[5:21]an entire lecture series in fact some of them themselves they walked
[5:25]away from there early earlier suggestions they abandoned their own thesis because
[5:30]they saw that it was false number one we talked about the
[5:38]Prophet being illiterate meaning what meaning that he was not taught and
[5:42]it's important to understand this that that teaching literacy reading writing in
[5:46]today's world it is an obligation upon every parents to send their
[5:54]child to school if you don't send your child to school you
[5:56]can get in trouble in those days this wasn't the case so
[6:00]we when we look at it in retrospect we need to take
[6:01]it into consideration that learning to read and write was a privilege
[6:09]it was not a right that's why many people did not read
[6:12]and write so it's not considered something against the Prophet that he
[6:18]did not read and write in fact when we it is actually
[6:24]considered for him that he did not read and write meaning that
[6:27]he did not take his teachings from anybody else because the idea
[6:31]the opinion is that he read and he wrote and he read
[6:34]this in earlier scriptures and he just put something together on his
[6:38]own well taking into consideration that was illiterate this is impossible where
[6:43]would he read if he did not know how to read what
[6:47]scriptures would he read so that de monks that claim that the
[6:52]Prophet had taken his faith from other people even with all of
[6:59]that they would still ask the Prophet questions and so it is
[7:02]said that chapter number 12 so it's Yusuf is one of those
[7:07]cases where they asked him about some of the details of the
[7:09]life of Yusuf and he related through the revelation when you look
[7:15]at the personality of the Prophet Yusuf as is related in the
[7:21]Quran number one yusuf represents a figure of divine beauty he was
[7:26]known as a figure of divine beauty not only in the way
[7:31]that he looked his physical appearance because his physical appearance was remarkable
[7:37]when he the Quran says that when he walked among the women
[7:41]that is Olathe the woman who had made advances on him that
[7:49]had tried to seduce him and make advances on him when he
[7:53]resisted those advances and people began to point fingers at her and
[8:01]blame her she invited them and when he walked amongst them what
[8:04]did they say they said paulina hasha allahi maja de Bashara in
[8:08]ha de la manna kun cream this is not an earthly being
[8:14]Bashar is someone who is created of the earth this is not
[8:19]an earthly being truly this is Melek meaning that he is an
[8:24]angel he's come from the sky but not not only physically was
[8:27]he what did he portray physical beauty but also he portrayed spiritual
[8:32]beauty and he was a model for patients at times of adversity
[8:38]now how did he exhibit that patients what was his character what
[8:44]was his behavior number one we find that Yusuf took a proactive
[8:48]instead of a reactive response what does that mean you know for
[8:53]most of our lives we don't take a proactive response to our
[8:57]life we take a reactive a response to our life meaning what
[9:03]meaning that we wait for tragedies to happen for us to react
[9:06]instead of focusing on what can I do right now in my
[9:11]life so that I prevent bad things from happening and by the
[9:14]way bad things happening is it's inevitable it doesn't mean that if
[9:19]we take a proactive approach that everything is going to be fine
[9:23]and dandy but you can become a more effective person if you
[9:26]learn to be proactive rather than reactive for instance very very simple
[9:31]example of being proactive rather than reactive some people they don't care
[9:35]about what they eat they don't watch what they eat they'll eat
[9:38]everything and then finally when they end up in the hospital they
[9:46]realize that now it's time to change and maybe that works maybe
[9:48]you know our bodies are very work in a very spectacular way
[9:53]or our bodies can always rebuild themselves when we give up bad
[9:57]habits such as smoking or eating our body can always rebuild itself
[10:01]but that's a reactive approach a proactive approach is when you don't
[10:07]engage in unhealthy behavior in the first place so that you don't
[10:11]have to go to the doctor specifically for that that is a
[10:16]proactive approach and if you list the things in your life that
[10:18]you can take a proactive approach instead of a reactive approach it'll
[10:22]amaze you how many problems and how many obstacles you can overcome
[10:28]this works for students as well some students they know that their
[10:31]teacher may be lenient with them so they don't study for the
[10:33]test they get a bad grade and then sometimes the teacher feels
[10:37]bad for them and says okay I'll give you extra credit after
[10:39]this that's a reactive approach a proactive approaches study in the first
[10:43]place and get a good grade so that you don't have to
[10:47]go through the headache your parents don't have to go through the
[10:50]headache your teachers and principals don't have to go through that headache
[10:54]so we anticipate things before they happen and this requires foresight in
[11:01]the case of our faith Allah subhana WA Ta'ala tells us it
[11:06]is clear in the Quran those who do good what they're out
[11:08]come we'll be and those who do bad and evil what their
[11:13]outcome will be family a myth Aladar rotten hi Yama Yama Yama
[11:21]: or rotten shunran yaaaah he who puts out in the amount
[11:24]of a mustard seed of good it shall return to him meaning
[11:29]sometimes we look at these deeds and I spoke about this immortal
[11:32]yesterday in passing but these minor deeds that we do these good
[11:35]deeds you never know how it's going to return to you either
[11:39]in your life or in the afterlife or in the lives of
[11:43]your children and your grandchildren or all three of them sometimes just
[11:47]because we receive a reward in this life doesn't mean that God
[11:50]is not going to reward us in the next life and the
[11:54]same way sometimes we do things which cause torment and punishment for
[11:58]ourselves in this life and also in the next life this is
[12:01]apparent from the verses of the Quran Allah subhana WA Ta'ala says
[12:05]in the ladina calluna my Elliot Emma Goldman in Nemea kunlun of
[12:10]people Tony him Nara or saya slowness are two things one in
[12:13]this life they are consuming fire in their stomachs and one is
[12:18]in the hereafter say alone that is a verb which is in
[12:20]the future tense saya slowness ira so there is torment meaning that
[12:26]what's the tournament in this life you know they're not going to
[12:28]feel the burning in their stomachs but that money that they take
[12:31]from the orphans unjustly and this was a problem which persisted before
[12:34]before you didn't have social security services that looked after children if
[12:38]they lost their parents normally children and even in today in many
[12:42]Islamic countries children when they lose their parents they go into the
[12:49]care of family members and sometimes and many of you have probably
[12:52]seen this sometimes those family members they don't look after the children
[12:55]the orphans in the way that they should I've seen this with
[13:00]my own eyes in some countries where you have a large number
[13:05]of orphans in MI Kuna people Tony him nama meaning that money
[13:10]that they take they're not going to see any blessing from it
[13:12]and on the day of judgment they shall be punished for it
[13:15]so number one is having foresight how do we become proactive and
[13:20]will come later as to how Yusuf was proact when it came
[13:24]to his challenges that he faced instead of being reactive one part
[13:28]of being proactive is to anticipate results before they happen and number
[13:33]two is to understand consequences now sometimes consequences are a result of
[13:41]natural law for instance if somebody decides to throw themselves from a
[13:48]top of a building what's the consequence the consequence is that they
[13:52]are going to fall once they choose to throw themselves off that
[13:55]building they're not subject to their own choice anymore they can't say
[13:59]stop and stop themselves now they are subject to what to the
[14:04]laws of nature so the laws of gravity and we can't at
[14:07]least not yet with all of the advancements that we have we
[14:13]haven't figured out a way to suspend the laws of gravity completely
[14:16]in our natural state but to understand even even though sometimes we
[14:22]talk about consequences in a way that it's not in my control
[14:25]because consequences are from natural law however that choice to step off
[14:32]of that building was your choice and that's why when we talk
[14:35]about punishment when we talk about the philosophical basis of understanding punishment
[14:39]when it comes to consequences yes maybe the consequence is not within
[14:46]your control however the choice that led to the consequence is within
[14:50]your control that's why we talk about the punishment or the reward
[14:54]for the choices not only for the consequences so for instance when
[14:58]you come across the narration that says men son men send a
[15:03]son attend husana fella who I drew hawa a gentleman Amina B
[15:06]ha ni omen p.m.
[15:09]woman Sanderson attend say yeah finally here is Roja whoa is Roman
[15:11]I mean a B ha ni omen Fiamma he who introduces a
[15:16]good practice within a community within a society shall reap the rewards
[15:20]and the rewards of everybody who practices that practice until the day
[15:24]of judgment and likewise the opposite he who introduces an evil practice
[15:29]that's why we have to really be careful of what we do
[15:34]and we'll come to this is when people say do whatever you
[15:37]want as long as you're not hurting anybody YF eclis this does
[15:40]not make sense philosophically this does not make sense those who introduce
[15:45]an evil practice shall also reap the rewards until the day of
[15:49]judgment now you may say it was out of my control it
[15:53]was out of my control that this person on the other side
[15:57]of the globe did evil because of me no you had the
[15:59]choice initially to introduce that practice of good or evil even when
[16:05]it comes to good imagine if someone does something good and says
[16:07]no I don't want anybody to do good anymore because of me
[16:09]it's not your choice you did the good and now people aren't
[16:15]following in your practice that's why it's about the choice more than
[16:19]it is about the consequences but that's why we have to understand
[16:22]the relationship between choices and consequences we have to have foresight and
[16:26]we have to know that everything that we do today has consequences
[16:29]when you pick up one side of the stick you also pick
[16:35]up the other side of the stick and this leads us to
[16:36]the second point is do anything that you want as long as
[16:41]you don't hurt anybody how many times have we heard this whatever
[16:44]you want go ahead do whatever you want you're not hurting anybody
[16:50]now first of all if we're to address this question ethically and
[16:54]philosophically who determines what is hurt and what is not hurt if
[16:57]I choose for instance to get on a motorcycle without a helmet
[17:03]and I say I'm not hurting anybody many people they they have
[17:09]this attitude I'm not hurting anybody well I may be a professional
[17:12]rider I may be careful and I may not hurt myself but
[17:17]what about the person who is an amateur rider who may look
[17:19]at me and take after my example so how do we how
[17:23]do we even determine what is hurt who determines what is hurt
[17:27]is it the individual or is it the society because if it's
[17:30]the individual that determines what is hurt then the world will be
[17:34]run by everybody's whims this person has an opinion who is different
[17:36]from that person's opinion who is different from that person's opinions there
[17:41]will be as many definitions as the word hurt as there are
[17:46]as people the opinions the society define what hurt is know because
[17:51]sometimes society in itself an entire society is doing wrong look at
[17:55]Nazi Germany everybody was doing one thing does that mean that it
[18:00]was right so how do we determine what is hurt instead of
[18:05]thinking about don't hurt anybody or do it as long as you
[18:11]don't hurt anybody instead of following those kinds of ethics and those
[18:16]kinds of philosophies we need to follow principles when we follow principles
[18:20]we make sure that we're doing the right thing why because principles
[18:24]are universal we mentioned this the other day principles are universal principles
[18:30]are also time-tested for instance something cannot be a principle if it's
[18:37]not time-tested even if a lot of people practice it if it's
[18:40]not time-tested it does not become a principle so some principles are
[18:44]like what the Quran speaks about principles justice justice is a principle
[18:52]truthfulness honesty those are all principles that's one thing another thing is
[18:59]when we're talking about hurt yes sometimes we don't hurt others but
[19:03]we may hurt ourselves this is what the Quran refers to as
[19:09]Volman Neffs sometimes we engage in Vollmer Neffs for instance the people
[19:17]of Musa after they crossed the ocean after they were they were
[19:25]saved from throne after they followed moosa' within a few days they
[19:30]abandoned worshiping God and they began to worship idols the Quran says
[19:34]they came across a group of people they saw them worshipping idols
[19:37]they told Musa let us have an Idol like them so that
[19:42]we can worship them within only a few days within only a
[19:48]few weeks they went when Musa left in order to receive the
[19:51]when he went to receive the revelation from Allah he came back
[20:00]and he saw them worshiping a calf AG and he said to
[20:02]them you comb in the column and first a combi Tejada come
[20:08]alleged that oh people you have you haven't oppressed me Moussa sane
[20:12]you have an oppressed God you have oppressed yourself because you have
[20:17]decided for yourself that you shall abandon and even when we decide
[20:20]to abandon if we are following if we are followers of God
[20:24]if we're not followers of God this is a different discussion but
[20:26]if we are followers of God we have to understand that when
[20:30]we when we engage in laulima Neffs when we oppress ourselves that
[20:36]is also not acceptable because our everything that God has given us
[20:41]which is our body which is our heart which is our mind
[20:42]our intellect all of that is an Amana it is a protection
[20:46]we have to make sure that we are protecting it from home
[20:49]we have to make sure that we are protecting it from oppression
[20:56]another point is the point of leadership each and every single one
[20:59]of us in some way or another is a leader a leader
[21:04]isn't simply a person that sits on the pulpit or the person
[21:07]that leads the prayer or the person who has a designated title
[21:11]some people they pride themselves on their title the more acronyms they
[21:20]can rack up on the title the more authority that they have
[21:23]this is not true leadership leadership is a position of influence and
[21:29]every person has the capacity for leadership when you look at the
[21:33]first two people that God created Adam and hawa one of them
[21:39]was the leader so it doesn't necessarily mean you have to have
[21:42]a big group in order to be a leader the leader is
[21:47]the person who is of authority and influence and it is a
[21:51]leader can also be the first person to do anything that's why
[21:55]when you talk about companies for instance they say that this company
[21:59]is a leader in the field of Transportation or it's a leader
[22:04]in the field of medicine meaning that this is the first company
[22:11]to explore certain avenues when we consider this we stop thinking in
[22:15]terms of do some do whatever you want as long as you
[22:20]don't hurt anybody why because we take into consideration the fact that
[22:24]people are watching us when you look at a family the father
[22:27]is usually the leader but doesn't have to be the leader sometimes
[22:30]the mother can be the leader sometimes the son or the daughter
[22:34]can be the leader the person who is paving the path of
[22:36]influence the one who others are following in their example that is
[22:41]the leader so when we take that into consideration we stop thinking
[22:45]so much about what I want and what is good for other
[22:48]people because you start thinking well other people are watching me other
[22:52]people may pick up this habit and maybe I stay safe by
[22:56]not putting on my helmet but if somebody else is watching me
[22:59]I can endanger that person's life even if I have good intentions
[23:06]and that's why understanding our capacity for leadership is also important Allah
[23:10]subhana WA Ta'ala tells the women of the Prophet in the Quran
[23:17]he says bismillah ar-rahman ar-rahim yawn ISA and Nabi may yet even
[23:21]could not be fahisha t-mobile Jana yah Allah Allah adabo my vain
[23:27]Wakana dhalika ala llahi Asiri a woman of the Prophet whichever one
[23:31]of you comes forth with an evil deed she shall be punished
[23:36]twice and also the opposite is true what my approach men Cornell
[23:43]allahi what are Sunni what time I finally honey ha ha ha
[23:45]moral attained that whenever you do good we shall also reward you
[23:54]twofold why because you are in the spotlight because other woman they
[23:57]look up to you as role models that's why there needs to
[24:02]be an emphasis on leadership on what we do you can't say
[24:05]I'm going to do something and it's not going to hurt anybody
[24:11]other people are looking up to you now the question is if
[24:14]other people are not looking up to you does it make it
[24:18]right you still have the relationship between you and Allah subhana WA
[24:21]Ta'ala you know Yusuf it has said that one day it was
[24:23]asked to Jakub that why was why is use of your favorite
[24:32]son why did you favor Youssef over his brothers and his reply
[24:36]is one day I gave a task to all of my sons
[24:40]to take an animal a small animal and to go and slaughter
[24:43]to find somewhere where God where nobody can see them and to
[24:49]slaughter it so they all came back and they had slaughtered except
[24:54]for Youssef he said why didn't you slaughter Youssef he said you
[24:57]told me to go somewhere where nobody can see over me and
[24:59]everywhere I went I saw that God was watching over me so
[25:04]I couldn't complete it so knowing that God is watching us every
[25:07]time and people are watching our example and sometimes were confused on
[25:11]how to teach with our example sometimes you just have to set
[25:15]the right example you don't have to say anything there's a story
[25:17]which most of you or all of you have probably heard from
[25:21]the life of imam hassan and imam hussain ali who must salaam
[25:24]when they were younger and they came across a man who was
[25:28]not performing because we'll do it properly so they decided that instead
[25:32]of telling him because even though they were the grandsons of the
[25:35]prophet but they they were children at that time you know it's
[25:37]it's tough for a child to teach an adult by telling them
[25:41]to do something even if they're right maybe that adult will not
[25:44]take it I'm supposed to learn from a child we all have
[25:48]egos or protective of our egos so what did they do they
[25:52]came up with a plan that one of them was going to
[25:53]perform the will go in front of the other he was going
[25:56]to make a mistake in the other would correct him and they
[25:57]would do it in full view of this man and so that's
[26:01]what they did and that's how they taught the man how to
[26:05]correct his way of doing what Allah so people are watching us
[26:09]so Yousef going back to the story of Yusuf Yousef he was
[26:17]proactive in that he could have blamed everybody however he decided to
[26:22]work within his own circle of influence and this idea is that
[26:24]each and every single one of us in order to be proactive
[26:29]we have a circle of influence we work from the inside out
[26:31]instead of outside in what does that mean each and every single
[26:35]one of us we have a circle of influence there are things
[26:38]in our life which we can influence outside of that circle of
[26:42]influence so if you imagine two concentric circles one Circle and then
[26:46]a larger circle which is outside the smaller circle on the inside
[26:49]we'll call the circle of influence the larger circle on the outside
[26:55]we'll call the circle of concern so the circle of concern is
[26:57]things which we are concerned about what they're not within our influence
[27:01]such as what you may be concerned about things which are going
[27:03]on in the world right now politics halfway across the world things
[27:07]which you know you cannot influence so what do you do you
[27:14]work effective people instead of always worrying about the things that are
[27:18]outside of their circle of influence they worry about the things which
[27:21]are inside their circle of influence and they work inside out and
[27:24]they expand their circle of influence and this is exactly what the
[27:30]case with Yousef was how outside of his influence was what people's
[27:35]behavior his brother's behavior zuleyka what she did to him that wasn't
[27:40]his choice that was something that was her choice what was in
[27:45]his circle of influence his choices how he was going to respond
[27:49]his attitude his behavior all of that are within our choices sometimes
[27:54]people make the claim that this person makes me angry do you
[27:59]know what that means that means that you have no control over
[28:01]your emotions do you know how ridiculous that sounds when you say
[28:04]this person makes me angry no you decided to be angry maybe
[28:10]they had certain behavior you can't change their behavior but you it
[28:13]was your choice that made you angry that's why when we talk
[28:16]about happiness you may hear this all the time that they say
[28:20]happiness is a choice it truly is a choice being miserable is
[28:24]also a choice we always we always have the ability to control
[28:30]what's in our circle of influence Yousef he took a proactive approach
[28:37]he controlled what was in his influence when she had tried to
[28:40]seduce him and advance towards him he didn't say I can't handle
[28:44]myself I have to engage in sin he could he handled himself
[28:49]he ran away and when it became apparent that she was the
[28:53]perpetrator all she wanted him to do was admit that it was
[28:57]his guilt and he was looking at two options admit his guilt
[29:03]which was wrong because he didn't he didn't commit it or choose
[29:09]prison What did he say Karla obesity No aha boo I am
[29:16]in my own any la I would rather take prison for these
[29:19]many years rather than accept their judgments everything was his choice even
[29:26]though the consequence was what prison and he unjustly went to prison
[29:30]but he understood that he needed to work within his own circle
[29:36]of influence he did not want to violate his print again this
[29:38]goes back to principles he did not want to violate his principle
[29:41]of truthfulness and when we when we know what we stand for
[29:45]when we have principles and when we know what we stand for
[29:48]they say that when you don't stand for anything you will fall
[29:53]for anything however when you actually stand for something and most people
[29:56]they they don't know what they stand for because they've never asked
[29:59]themselves what are my principles and what are my values have you
[30:01]ever asked yourself this what are my principles what are my values
[30:04]it's all in the Quran if you read the Quran those are
[30:09]that's where we derive our principles and our values from the Quran
[30:13]says that no matter what happens on the outside well no matter
[30:19]what people do to you you always have the choice to do
[30:21]good when I Angela Magna comes Anna Anna Coleman Anna and lady
[30:25]Lou I do know a club with taqwa do not allow those
[30:31]evildoers people who do evil towards you do not allow them to
[30:41]get inside your head do not allow them to change your course
[30:44]of action to deviate your course of action and to deviate you
[30:47]from the path of adalah justice Angela when I am under Commissioner
[30:57]Anna Coleman Anna and Lodi Lulu who are chromoly taqwa meaning that
[31:02]you always have a choice you can't say this person forced me
[31:05]to do this or this person forced me to do that you
[31:09]always have a choice let's take the sin brothers and sisters understand
[31:11]our prosperity our success our happiness our our joy that's something that's
[31:17]that that has to be there that has to come from within
[31:19]it has to be a choice we cannot always depend on other
[31:24]people to make us happy that has to come from within and
[31:27]that's why we talk about proactivity vs.
[31:29]reactivity what are some of the things that I can control my
[31:34]behavior what I say my tongue you know it said that when
[31:46]the prophet muhammad sallallahoalyhiwasallam when when his son ibrahim passed away ibrahim
[31:54]was around the same same age of imam hussain ali sena some
[32:03]narrations tell us that one day the Prophet had both Ibrahim and
[32:07]Hussein on his lap and Jabra L can to the Prophet he
[32:13]said Jana so Allah God has decreed that one of these two
[32:17]shall not live and you have the choice which one shall not
[32:24]live and which one shall continue and you know when we think
[32:27]about it we say this is an unfair choice when we think
[32:31]about it with our own minds because we're always thinking about what's
[32:34]fair and what's unfair the prophets they didn't think in the same
[32:37]way do you notice that the prophets they thought on a different
[32:40]level the Imams they thought on a different level because their attitudes
[32:43]that were different they looked at things differently so the Prophet said
[32:47]if this must be a choice then keep her saying with me
[32:51]because I cannot stand to see her saying my dear her saying
[32:56]to be taken away from me even though Abraham was also very
[32:58]dear to him so when Ibraheem passed away it is said that
[33:01]they were walking in the funeral procession and some people they noticed
[33:04]that the Prophet was not weeping you know when when when a
[33:09]loved one passes away we weep we tend to weep they saw
[33:10]that the Prophet was not crying he was not weeping so they
[33:14]asked him to City Auto so Allah don't you feel pain in
[33:17]your heart and he pointed to the mountain he said that if
[33:22]this mountain knew the pain that was in my heart it would
[33:25]crumble if it knew what was in my heart and then the
[33:29]Prophet said one of his famous narrations he says in an allotted
[33:36]matter well pal by liason he says that sometimes our tears they
[33:40]are drawn sometimes you see something and you can't control your tears
[33:44]have you ever seen a scene in a movie for instance we're
[33:46]in a play and you can't control yourself even though you know
[33:50]that it is fiction it's not real life but you begin to
[33:52]cry you weep or you've seen someone take advantage of somebody else
[33:56]and you cry you weep even if you don't know who that
[33:59]person is sometimes it's involuntary well if paddle ballet is and sometimes
[34:04]your heart breaks as well and you can't control it he says
[34:08]however and his hadith however he says we never say that which
[34:11]displeases our Lord meaning what meaning that sometimes you can't control where
[34:18]your heart goes or when your tears flow but one thing that
[34:24]you can always control is your tongue you can always control what
[34:29]you say and some people unfortunately when tragedy strikes they lose it
[34:34]they begin to swear some of them begin to disbelieve how many
[34:37]of you you know people who they disbelieve they begin to utter
[34:41]words of disbelief and co4 just because something bad has happened in
[34:45]their life and then they apologize and regret and say it wasn't
[34:47]in my control what you say is always in your control every
[34:55]single moment is always in control so understanding and taking ownership this
[34:59]is what Imam Hussain was about the message of Ashura is about
[35:05]being responsible and if and if we truly want to model what
[35:08]Imam Hussain are they said I'm did we would take we would
[35:13]take become accountable for our lives become responsible for our choices and
[35:16]for our consequences see going back to the story of Yusuf what
[35:20]does he say he says and I mentioned this in passing the
[35:25]other day finally when he meets his family he says what by
[35:27]the asana be it a Hajj and him in a Sydney he
[35:30]says God has been gracious to me after all these years that
[35:35]he brought me out of the prison he didn't say God put
[35:37]me in prison I blame God God brought me out of the
[35:43]prison what God accented orogeny - Sydney why ja I become in
[35:45]LED women body and as Irish I found obey Nene were they
[35:50]in equity God has been so gracious to me that he brought
[35:53]me out of prison that he brought my family from a far
[35:55]land away and that he brought them even after the shape on
[36:03]got between me and my brothers never once did did Yusuf blame
[36:07]his brothers even though his brothers were at fault they threw him
[36:11]in the well which caused him to be sold into slavery which
[36:13]caused him to be in the home of the minister which caused
[36:18]him to be in jail for more than a decade which caused
[36:21]him all of that distraught and all of that tragedy he never
[36:29]once blamed anybody it was his language it was his attitude what
[36:32]but I Sena me it's a legend he made a Sydney Rajah
[36:36]become another bad women body unless of a Chicano vania vania T
[36:39]so this is the language of someone who is responsible someone who
[36:44]was accountable likewise Imam Hussein honey sanam he didn't complain and say
[36:47]I was just bail I was just dealt a bad card if
[36:51]only my brother god forbid if only my brother had negotiated better
[36:57]if only my father had fought harder if only my grandfather had
[37:00]done this did you did you ever see this language from Imam
[37:03]Hussain Hani Salaam did you ever see him say if only I
[37:08]had a thousand more supporters hey rather he said there are no
[37:11]companions as good as my companions imam hussain ali salaam he took
[37:17]ownership even if even though the decay of the muslim ummah was
[37:23]not his fault however he still took ownership and sometimes things brothers
[37:28]and sisters happen in our lives it's not our fault that's understandable
[37:32]but sometimes we still take ownership because it's the responsible thing to
[37:38]do it's the proactive thing to do and if we really want
[37:41]to lead our communities and our children in the right direction we
[37:46]have to learn proactivity and taking responsibility and taking ownership sometimes of
[37:50]consequences which are unintended an imam husain honey Saddam could have said
[37:56]fine I will pledge allegiance to you as Eid and that'll be
[38:00]the end of it however that wasn't the right thing to do
[38:02]that wasn't the model of leadership that he wanted to keep behind
[38:08]for generations now we honor Imam Hussain and we'll talk about this
[38:11]time tomorrow is why is a show not relevant and why do
[38:16]we honor him to remind ourselves because he made a choice that
[38:19]perpetuated for eternity for hundreds of years for thousands of years he
[38:23]could have laid back and said it's not my fault and if
[38:29]he would have done that we would not know anything about Islam
[38:31]today or we would have a very very warped version of Islam
[38:36]we don't we don't even want to think about what it would
[38:39]have been however Imam Hussain Hani Salaam and he understood fully his
[38:44]choices and the consequences of those choices tonight is the night brothers
[38:49]and sisters we remember Ali Akbar the first from among the family
[38:55]of imam hussain ali salam to go out into the battlefield and
[39:00]narrations tell us that an enol akbar was very similar in his
[39:05]demeanor in his character and the way he walked in the way
[39:10]he spoke to his grandfather rasool allah khanna Ashkenazi help and Oaxacan
[39:16]woman the can be rasul allah an imam hussein says that when
[39:20]we could not - Tecna if we longed for to see Rasul
[39:26]Allah Nirvana in our jihad al Holland we would look into the
[39:29]face of this young man because he he was so similar to
[39:35]the Prophet in his demeanor in his characteristics and he was a
[39:40]young man who knew full well what was going on he wasn't
[39:44]confused from the first day he knew what was going on he
[39:46]was well aware and narrations tell us that when Imam Hussein and
[39:54]his family were headed towards Caribana one narration says that imam hussain
[40:01]as he was riding on the horse for the camel that was
[40:04]taking them in that direction he he kept falling asleep and waking
[40:11]up and every time he would say how would i well out
[40:13]for water in love in love now how would i well out
[40:16]for water in love in la la la la he would do
[40:20]test beer and so on even in October he saw that his
[40:22]father kept saying la haula well I pour water in La Bella
[40:26]so he turned to his father he said but uh he says
[40:30]I see that you are you are frequenting the saying now how
[40:34]now well quwata illa billah' he says it's something wrong imam husain
[40:37]honey Salam he says no I'm just seeing a vision that we
[40:42]are going towards that final destination of ours so an enol acabar
[40:46]imagine the conviction he had in his heart he said Abbot ah
[40:51]my dear father our last night a little hot are we not
[40:54]on the path of truth Imam Hussain replied yes Bela yes we
[41:00]are so Anil Kumar said and then Landru body in the land
[41:06]no body it does not matter what kana ll mote I'm walking
[41:09]I'll mow to our leader it doesn't matter whether death befalls us
[41:14]or we fall upon death why because we know of our consequence
[41:18]we know our destination it doesn't matter what happens in between it
[41:23]doesn't matter that we have to fight because we know what our
[41:28]destination is this was a young man of conviction this is a
[41:30]young man who understood the concept of action and consequences and on
[41:34]that day when imam hussain ali sahib calls and a helmet nasa
[41:39]and your honor and a helmet morena in your honor and the
[41:42]you know i come on is the first to go out into
[41:46]the battlefield imam hussain ali sallam he prepares Ali Akbar and as
[41:49]he is sending him out into the battlefield he turns to Ramona
[41:55]bin Assad and he says oh I'm on my Allah I be
[41:56]review in the same way that you are attempting to believe me
[41:59]may Allah send you someone who will who will kill you in
[42:05]your sleep because of how you are believing me and then he
[42:09]recited the verse in the la dama wuhan brahim Alana Alana mean
[42:16]the rear to Muhammad by Allah who sent me on a knee
[42:18]mush had Ally him oh Allah I bear witness upon them burrows
[42:27]alayhim wala Ashkenazi honkin Oaxacan want the Canberra Sulak oh Allah I
[42:32]bear witness upon these people that this young man who is going
[42:34]out to the battlefield is the one who is most similar to
[42:37]rasulallah and when we were longing for us or allah we would
[42:42]look to the face of this young man and in an echo
[42:45]bar he went out into the battlefield he introduced himself the first
[42:49]member of the family to go out he introduced himself he said
[42:52]anna ali abdullah hussein Abner Ali nanu our ability I will have
[42:58]been a be available come be safe hot I Anthony Varma Holloman
[43:02]hashemian Allah we Talal I Akuma FINA blood I I am Ali
[43:08]the son of Ali the son of Hussein the son of Ali
[43:14]we are closer to the Prophet than these people and by God
[43:18]the one whose father is not known shall not rule above us
[43:21]meaning Yazeed the one whose father is not known and he went
[43:25]out into the battlefield laila the mother of Ali Al Akbar she
[43:30]was in the tents and she was Stan she was sitting in
[43:32]the tent however she was looking from inside the tent towards the
[43:36]face of Abu Abdullah Hani Salaam because he was watching his son
[43:41]in the battlefield all of a sudden the face as he was
[43:44]fighting valiantly in the battlefield the face of abar abdullah began to
[43:50]change Leyla she looked about Abdullah she said saya di ba abdullah
[43:53]hello sleep I wanna DB che as something happened to my son
[43:56]now I have noticed your facial expression has changed she says no
[44:03]he says to her no nothing has changed except for the fact
[44:06]that a warrior has come out into the battlefield and I fear
[44:08]for the safety of my son he says go inside and do
[44:12]do for your son that he returns for I have heard were
[44:17]sort of la say that the supplication of a mother is accepted
[44:19]for her son so she went she kept inside the tent and
[44:24]she turned to allah subhana WA Ta'ala she began to make the
[44:28]door Yared the Yousefi Alya coupe oh he who brought back use
[44:34]of the boob oh the one who removed the calamity from Ayub
[44:37]although the layaway lady bring back to me my son it was
[44:41]only a few months later that alina akbar he comes back to
[44:44]his father he says say the about abdullah he begins to complain
[44:49]he says say the about abdullah al hospital and he was left
[44:52]alone hadith eh hey Denis I am so thirsty I do not
[44:56]have that much energy to go out anymore into the battlefield imam
[44:59]hussain alayhi salam he shows him the narration says he reveals to
[45:04]his son his tongue which was like a dry piece of wood
[45:09]when a Lena like policies how thirsty his father was he returns
[45:13]back into the battlefield he begins to fight with full force with
[45:17]full bravery at that moment I want many Nana said that he
[45:22]was upon his horse out into the battlefield one of the one
[45:27]of the soldiers from the enemy army he launches he launches a
[45:31]spear which lands into the chest of onion and a kebab all
[45:34]of them they begin to surround a Lena a kebab they begin
[45:38]to strike him the strikes begin to come from all around him
[45:42]the blood the narration says the blood begins to gush from his
[45:47]head it falls upon the eyes of the horse and the horse
[45:49]instead of bringing him back to the camp of her saying it
[45:54]takes him towards the camp of a lot of Mossad all of
[45:56]a sudden the enemies they begin to surround him from every corner
[46:02]from every direction they begin to rain down upon him with arrows
[46:05]and swords at that moment he calls upon his father say the
[46:08]about Abdullah Imam Hussain Ali Salim rushes out into the battlefield he
[46:16]sees his son in this case he sees his son on the
