[0:14]foreign allah [Music] jose [Music] [Laughter] [Music] [Music] [Music] for the hastening
[1:30]of the reappearance of our master our leader our imam the avenger
[1:36]the savior allah once again we find ourselves marveling at the words
[2:15]of the captive woman who even under the lashes of their whips
[2:24]spoke words that not only humiliated yazidis but left him flabbergasted yazid
[2:37]was drunk with power victory youth and alcohol the intoxication the inebriation
[2:46]was overwhelming and yet even he could understand that [Music] is mopping
[2:59]the floor with him and he couldn't even raise a hand he
[3:06]couldn't even speak back and while the words of zainab alaihissalam flew
[3:14]right over his head meaning that he couldn't fathom what zainab was
[3:21]talking about the truth of the matter is that even we don't
[3:26]understand what's the what zainab was talking about zainab was expressing [Music]
[3:38]divine will [Music] using language spoken word that is inherently deficient our
[3:52]languages even the most comprehensive even the most deep and meaningful and
[4:02]one with the largest vocabulary the arabic language is intrinsically incapable [Music]
[4:11]of comprehending things that relate to allah subhanahu wa zainab in these
[4:24]short words is articulating what is essentially impossible to be articulated using
[4:31]words letters and syllables but the more time progresses the more humanity
[4:46]understands that zayn was truly onto something she says to him kit
[4:53]kaidak cade in the arabic language is a scheme a in other
[4:57]words she's saying you can pull any trick from your sleeve that
[5:02]you want do whatever you want spare no effort not you not
[5:26]anyone else can take away the love of the albeit the love
[5:31]of hussain from the hearts and so once again we find ourselves
[5:39]marveling at these words thinking zainab was on to something because let's
[5:46]face it brothers and sisters the shia world the followers of abba
[5:51]abdullah hussain have gone through tragedy after tragedy tribulation after tribulation challenge
[6:02]after challenge you see now it's a worldwide pandemic but it's not
[6:08]like two years ago it was any easier was it five years
[6:12]ago ten years ago because there always has to be something that
[6:18]at least attempts to separate us from the remembrance of abba there's
[6:24]always something either it's a tyrant like he used to amputate hands
[6:36]and it got to the point where he would kill one out
[6:39]of every 10 individuals who wanted to visit the shrine of imam
[6:41]hussein so it's either a tyrant that goes back a thousand years
[6:48]or a tyrant that lives in this day and age where the
[6:51]followers of the bait in certain countries aren't allowed to commemorate the
[6:56]tragedy of imam hussain either that or it's a systematic campaign of
[7:03]elimination against the followers of the bait by means of you name
[7:13]it bombing their hussein imambargas and mosques if you don't remember then
[7:18]maybe you're too young or your memory is too short go back
[7:23]just 10 years ago and you'll remember the bombings that happened in
[7:27]pakistan year after year the bombings that used to happen in afghanistan
[7:32]year after year and the constant onslaught and massacres against the shia
[7:38]in iraq and elsewhere it just wouldn't stop every single year we
[7:44]had to commemorate the tragedy of imam hussain as well as those
[7:49]who were slain and the way of commemorating the imam the only
[7:54]difference was the geographic location and the name of the perpetrator the
[7:59]one constant was the victims it was the xi'an it was those
[8:05]whose only crime was crying out hussain it was those whose only
[8:09]crime was saying ya father that's it the victim remained as a
[8:17]constant the variables were the perpetrators the tyrants the kings the terror
[8:25]groups you name it so there's always something whether it's a tyrant
[8:33]or terror groups bombings and today it's a global pandemic so the
[8:41]challenge was always there we never in our long history of commemoration
[8:47]had a period in time a substantial sizable period in which our
[8:54]path to the commemoration of imam hussain was completely unobstructed and so
[9:02]it's a new challenge yes but does that mean that the shia
[9:07]of the other bait will stop you will never recognize just who
[9:23]we are yayazid you'll never understand that this family isn't your average
[9:36]family you'll never understand that our god himself took it upon the
[9:49]divine deity to glorify them and to ensure that they exist for
[9:54]as long as we exist so alhamdulillah brothers and sisters what a
[10:04]great privilege it is that we're alive first of all we're healthy
[10:11]second of all we are still on the path of the bait
[10:18]and so we will commemorate no matter what until kingdom come as
[10:27]they say if it's not in the mosque it's in a school
[10:29]if it's not a school it's out on the on the in
[10:33]the street if it's not in the street that it's in our
[10:37]homes there's nothing absolutely nothing that can stop us from doing this
[10:41]and it's not like our the enemy hasn't tried and so what
[10:55]we say is [Music] the truth has been delivered by god's emissaries
[11:08]and messengers and the truth is that this is not going anywhere
[11:14]the style may change some of the practices will have to adapt
[11:18]but ultimately you can never take out the love of hussein from
[11:24]our hearts the enemy should know that and so stop stop trying
[11:30]we should also not take it for granted brothers and sisters because
[11:35]right now right now in some countries like bahrain saudi arabia malaysia
[11:42]you have followers of the debate who aren't allowed to do this
[11:46]and it's not because of the pandemic they're not even allowed to
[11:48]hold commemorations in their homes it's a purely sectarian issue right you
[11:55]have i was reading a tweet earlier today of someone who was
[12:01]imprisoned in bahrain for five years and he said that while i
[12:08]was in prison we uh we would go through these phases where
[12:12]we want to commemorate the tragedies of the muslim but the prison
[12:16]wardens the guards they wouldn't let us do that and so we
[12:21]will we would abstain from food we would go on a hunger
[12:24]strike do you know how many times within five years he says
[12:30]we went on 25 hunger strikes to put pressure on the prison
[12:33]authorities to allow us to commemorate the tragedy in the corners of
[12:41]our prison cells we're not bothering anyone we're not hurting anyone so
[12:46]don't take this for granted brothers and sisters many of you live
[12:52]in countries where alhamdulillah you have the freedom to practice your faith
[12:56]to commemorate the tragedies of the rebate to engage in your rights
[13:00]and rituals freely granted now because of the pandemic there are some
[13:07]restrictions and that's fine but generally do not take this for granted
[13:09]inshaallah what i wanted to do over the next few nights perhaps
[13:17]the entirety of this series or at least a part of it
[13:21]is provide a commentary on something that you might find rather surprising
[13:30]you've all heard and i'm sure many of you are familiar with
[13:37]and it is a ziyara which needs no introduction [Music] i really
[13:45]don't need to talk about the merits and virtues and rewards of
[13:48]reciting the ziada many of you alhamdulillah already recited on a daily
[13:54]basis and if you don't my sincere recommendation is that at least
[14:03]during muharram and safa or at the very least during the 10
[14:05]days of muharram you would recite the ziada daily even if you
[14:11]can't do it the way it's been prescribed by repeating certain statements
[14:16]a hundred times at the very least to recite them once and
[14:21]do a ziyara every single day but that's not what i want
[14:26]to provide a commentary on rather i want to zoom in all
[14:28]the way on the very last part of the ziara those of
[14:31]you who are familiar with the ziada will know exactly what i'm
[14:36]talking about what's the last thing you do you fall into prostration
[14:39]you perform what in that sujood there are two supplications two prayers
[14:49]that you make the entirety of the ashura contains about 14 supplications
[14:55]which would make an excellent resource and incredible material for a lengthy
[15:02]and in-depth discussion but the two supplications i want to focus on
[15:08]are the ones recited during the prostration at the end of z
[15:12]you'd be surprised how much can be extrapolated from these two supplications
[15:17]what do we say when we fall into sadhut the first thing
[15:22]you say is you thank allah [Music] basically that translates to oh
[15:45]allah thank you but not just any thanks hand the status the
[15:56]level of those who are thankful to you people come in different
[16:02]flavors different colors different stripes and different statuses right you have those
[16:06]who are truly thankful to allah and then then again you have
[16:10]people like me those who are truly grateful to you i thank
[16:16]you the way they thank you hamlet for the fact that i
[16:32]am afflicted by them i am mourning the fact that i see
[16:43]myself as one who is in mourning for husain someone who is
[16:48]musab musab in the arabic language means one who is afflicted one
[16:53]who's injured one who's in pain there's a difference between people when
[17:00]you attend a majlis fatiha or as a lebanese would say an
[17:06]right a gathering to commemorate someone who's deceased a loved one there's
[17:15]a difference between the people that you find in that gathering right
[17:19]there is the family members of the deceased and then again you
[17:26]have friends of friends of the deceased you might have an employee
[17:32]of a family member of the one who has passed away the
[17:39]way this person engages with the tragedy is obviously very different to
[17:47]the way the son the father the brother the wife the husband
[17:51]of the deceased engages with the tragedy right we can all relate
[17:57]to that in this sajdah we say oh allah thank you the
[18:06]way those who are grateful to you express thanks to you for
[18:12]making me among those who are afflicted among those who are like
[18:20]the family member of the deceased that's how i'm mourning then to
[18:27]top it up you say alhamdulillah also means an affliction a tragedy
[18:38]praise be to allah thanks me to allah for the great affliction
[18:45]that i'm going through now parenthetically let me mention something which is
[18:57]important who narrates i don't want to delve too deeply into the
[19:09]chain of narrators the authenticity and that sort of stuff because we're
[19:12]beyond that as far as as authenticity goes is as authentic as
[19:21]they come has been narrated by our most qualified and most illustrious
[19:30]and most celebrated scholars of hadith and the greatest jurists of the
[19:37]sheri faith we're speaking about we're speaking about we're speaking about we're
[19:49]speaking about we're speaking about even we're speaking about people whose integrity
[19:56]whose credentials whose qualifications are beyond the discussion of ignorant folk like
[20:08]me but how did we receive this ziyada to begin with it
[20:13]is narrated by imam muhammad ali listen carefully to this imam al-baqar
[20:21]says that i heard my father meaning imam imam is saying who
[20:30]heard his father meaning imam hussain who heard his father amir al-mu'min
[20:38]who heard rasulullah say that i heard jibril say that i heard
[20:45]god say that if you wish to visit abba was saying on
[20:52]the day of then you recite this meaning that this isn't a
[21:01]regular run-of-the-mill hadith this is what we technically refer to as hadith
[21:09]because it's attributed to allah and it's in a category of its
[21:20]own all of the narrators of the ziada are infallible so this
[21:27]kind of contextualizes it also take note of the fact that was
[21:33]originally prescribed for the day of so if you find yourself thinking
[21:42]we're talking about affliction we're talking about me being in a state
[21:48]of utter mourning and you may not be in that sort of
[21:51]mindset mindset that's okay because we're talking about this ziyada being recited
[21:56]on the day of when every shia is in mourning [Music] try
[22:07]and memorize these because we have a lot of work to do
[22:12]with these statements over the next few nights then you say this
[22:21][Music] first prayer and the second prayer bitly hussain was saying let's
[22:40]take the first portion here actually before that let's take a step
[22:45]back these prayers are to be recited in a state of prostration
[22:55]remember why a state of prostration because sujud my dear brothers and
[23:02]sisters listen carefully we're trying to build a case for something extraordinary
[23:13]is considered an incredibly important part of salat perhaps the most important
[23:22]the number of traditions we have about the importance of it about
[23:26]the benefits of sujud about the rewards of are just beyond the
[23:32]scope of this discussion for instance we have traditions that state allah
[23:37]subhanahu wa ta'ala says to the angels that if my slave knew
[23:42]what he or she was getting as a result of them being
[23:47]in a state of sujud they would never lift their heads up
[23:50][Music] in other words at that point when you're in sujud god
[23:56]only knows what you're getting how you're being blessed how this act
[24:04]is translating into indescribable unfathomable rewards in the afterlife number one number
[24:12]two hadith says a man came to see the holy prophet the
[24:21]prophet said to him what do you want what do you seek
[24:28]fakala rasool allah i'm just going to cut to the chase i
[24:34]don't want to waste your time i don't want to waste my
[24:39]time i want paradise give me one thing a shortcut to paradise
[24:44]for me says the holy prophet paused for a moment as if
[24:50]he's getting ready to say something truly important you want paradise help
[25:05]me help you by extending the time you spend in prostration [Music]
[25:21]i believe this one is in the blessed book of al-khafi almost
[25:26]authentic collection and canon of hadith the imam ali says the closest
[25:40]person is to his lord to his creator is in the state
[25:46]of prostration allah what is to do it and then we kind
[25:52]of fast track our sujud when we're praying as if we have
[25:59]something more important to go back to subhanallah and if that makes
[26:07]you think well why why is sujud so special you need to
[26:12]think about the fact that in sujud you are essentially placing [Music]
[26:20]the most noble part of your entire body the most important part
[26:26]in your body which is your forehead on dirt not just the
[26:33]forehead but the tip of the nose because it's mustahab something that's
[26:38]called uh is to make sure that when you're in the state
[26:47]of prostration not just your forehead not just your face but your
[26:54]nose is also rubbing against the dirt if you've noticed some people
[26:59]have they take two turba that's why they do it because it's
[27:01]recommended for both the forehead and the nose to be at the
[27:09]same flat level so to have two is recommended why because what
[27:15]you're saying to allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is i am nothing the
[27:23]most noble part of my body my face is touching the dirt
[27:28]touching the earth in an expression of utter helplessness i've been nobody
[27:39]brothers and sisters this world is what a few days ultimately no
[27:45]matter who you are no matter who i am no matter how
[27:50]many titles accolades credentials qualifications degrees you hang on the wall no
[27:56]matter what people call you at the end of the day as
[27:58]the holy prophet salallahu alaihi says [Music] this whole world is about
[28:07]an hour because at the moment of death when you're lying on
[28:11]your hospital bed looking down the abyss of the unknown and the
[28:19]angel of death clenches his proverbial claws to extract your soul at
[28:27]that moment your whole life is just a flash no matter how
[28:34]many fancy places you've been to how many meals you've had how
[28:37]many encounters how much pleasure how much pain none of that matters
[28:41]it's just it's just a flash right that's how you and i
[28:46]think of last year just think of last muharram it's just a
[28:49]flash it's just a distant memory right our whole lives will be
[28:56]just a figment of our imagination and a distant memory when it
[28:59]comes time for us to part from this world so it really
[29:05]doesn't matter if you're a doctor if you're a professor if you're
[29:08]an entrepreneur if you're a ceo if you're a if you're on
[29:12]him none of those things matters because at some point you and
[29:17]i within days because even if it's a few years you can
[29:21]break it down into days within days you and i will be
[29:26]six feet under the ground maybe we'll have our names carved on
[29:30]the tombstone and maybe some family members will come and pay us
[29:35]a visit every once in a while the day of ashura is
[29:37]called papristan day people go there and they do their ziyada of
[29:41]their dead ones in some cultures it's the first of muharram but
[29:44]that's about it and then your own grandchildren or great-grandchildren won't even
[29:49]remember your name let alone remember to actually think about you and
[29:55]to send your good deeds and so in this world that is
[30:07]so transient as the beautiful hadith puts it the imam says [Music]
[30:17]this whole world deceives hurts and passes that's basically this whole life
[30:28]in a nutshell so if this is what life is which it
[30:35]is and if life is only a flash which it will be
[30:37]and if we are all going to end up in a whole
[30:41]one day soon which we will what does it matter then what
[30:49]you're saying in sujood is ya allah i am nothing oh allah
[30:57]i don't own anything i don't have anything all these fancy schmancy
[31:03]titles all the things that i was proud of all the things
[31:07]that i boasted about god forbid you address a doctor with their
[31:11]first name or aalim with their first name god forbid people take
[31:17]away your achievements from you none of those achievements will help you
[31:21]when you're lying in your grave true so if that's true and
[31:27]we all acknowledge and recognize it to be we have to turn
[31:33]to allah subhanahu wa ta'ala oh allah i'm a nobody that's basically
[31:40]what you're saying in that's what you're saying to allah in fact
[31:48]the fact that you are here the fact that you're commemorating who
[31:53]do you think gave you that did you make the decision to
[31:59]do this do you think that we can take credit for loving
[32:01]imam and hussein it is allah subhanahu wa ta'ala who swayed our
[32:09]hearts towards he's the one who breaks our hearts he's the one
[32:13]who makes us remember him it is imam hussain himself when you
[32:17]woke up and you decided to attend the medjlist or you decided
[32:19]to watch this megalist it was imam hussain who said it's the
[32:22]first of muharram you don't want to come to me everything we
[32:30]have is from them it's from allah subhanahu ta'ala through his vice
[32:35]chairs which is why you need to constantly remind yourself i am
[32:40]nothing i'm a nobody [Music] brothers and sisters unfortunately we don't spend
[32:55]time in what matters we squander our lives and we waste our
[33:00]time on the most petty trivial things and the most important thing
[33:06]you and i can do is to learn the knowledge that was
[33:11]left to us by the holy prophet and his immaculate family right
[33:16]learn their hadith is heard crying you wish to evaluate our followers
[33:32]you want to know who's better than the others the one metric
[33:36]to do that is to see how much of our words and
[33:39]how much of our knowledge do they possess and how much of
[33:45]our traditions do they narrate how much do they understand what we
[33:54]left them these treasures of knowledge like al-khafi like bihar like the
[34:02]great canonical texts of our ulama raja listen carefully has an entire
[34:10]chapter in his book 110 volumes his magnum opus there is a
[34:23]chapter called means it's the vicar that they've made an acronym for
[34:38]it and the acronym is just like best mala is an acronym
[34:44]for what bismillah allah compiled a list of traditions from the holy
[34:55]prophet and the holy household about the merits and virtues of saying
[35:02]and i'll mention more hadith about it as we move along because
[35:07]this is important why is it important because itself contains so much
[35:11]much of our spirituality can be derived from the number one and
[35:17]number two because the traditions tell us it is one of this
[35:53]statement is one of the treasures of paradise not the treasures of
[35:57]this world but of paradise that's one hadith the other then i'll
[36:02]come back to it a little later the second hadith is he
[36:10]says when you are faced with problem after problem affliction after affliction
[36:22]challenge after challenge the way out is earlier i didn't finish it
[36:32]the holy prophet says that it is one of the treasures of
[36:36]paradise one of the benefits of saying this is it helps you
[36:41]relieve yourself of 99 afflictions in this world the least of which
[36:51]is anxiety and sadness and all of these new diseases that we're
[36:57]suffering from nowadays mental health and others people have physical diseases they
[37:07]go to the doctor and the doctor says you stress too much
[37:10]it's because if you're stressed that you have hypertension it's because of
[37:14]your stress that you have heart disease it's because of stress that
[37:18]you have this that and the other the holy prophet says the
[37:24]messenger isn't giving you a prescription that you can just go and
[37:28]get from the chemist and eat and relieve yourself of your stress
[37:33]and anxiety and depression the prophet is treating the underlying cause the
[37:40]root cause of depression and anxiety and as we'll discuss it more
[37:46]it'll become clearer inshaallah so going back to the hadith about the
[37:49]merit and virtues of hawk [Music] says that if you are facing
[37:59]too many problems back to back now when the holy prophet says
[38:04]that it's one of the treasures of paradise immediately you and i
[38:08]because our brains are wired like this what do we think of
[38:13]when i say treasure we think of gold we think of silver
[38:16]we think of gems we think of stuff like that right that's
[38:20]it's basically because we are so materialistic and life and popular popular
[38:28]culture and the media and movies and series and cartoons and novels
[38:34]and books of all different kinds and flavors basically have engineered our
[38:39]brain to be like this to become materialistic subhanallah they told um
[38:49]if you kill hussain will give you the dominion of which nowadays
[38:56]if you told someone that if you do this i will appoint
[39:01]you as the prime minister of the country you don't get as
[39:07]many privileges as you would get by becoming the emir of an
[39:11]entire region 1400 years ago because having the dominion of rey meant
[39:16]that you owned everything you didn't just get a salary and were
[39:22]able to make some decisions which were executive in nature no no
[39:26]you literally owned the riches all the taxes that were paid to
[39:32]the governor were owned by the governor he could do whatever he
[39:35]wants with it so the second they told him all you got
[39:38]to do is kill hussein and what we give you in exchange
[39:49]is the domain of all of present-day iran he said you know
[39:59]what emiliani give me one night to think it over and of
[40:02]course you know that the second the person says give me a
[40:07]night to think about this he's done that's it he's lost the
[40:15]game you don't think about something as heinous as laying a hand
[40:19]on the son of rasulallah that was his price tag it was
[40:29]this you know the money he had to be enticed with but
[40:33]then you know what really pains me is when i think of
[40:39]the fact that 30 000 people came to karbala did they each
[40:44]get the dominion of ray did they or were they promised to
[40:49]become kings of like a large region of land to get the
[40:54]taxes of this city or that region or this country no subhan
[40:57]many of them had much smaller price tags many of them were
[41:03]promised just a handful of dates just a handful of dates to
[41:09]shed the sacred blood of abdullah subhan allah but then if you
[41:16]think about it those who know know that whether it's the dominion
[41:23]of or a handful of dates it's exactly it's exactly the same
[41:26]right now says in the last part of his famous sermon known
[41:38]as the the very last thing the imam says is this he
[41:47]says i swear in the name of the one who split the
[41:59]atom and created the soul [Music] is worth less than the saliva
[42:16]that's extracted when a female goat sneezes [Music] my god if i
[42:30]were given the seven heavens and everything that's underneath them seven heavens
[42:33]is the imam speaking about the universe is he talking about seven
[42:38]parallel universes is he talking about some kind of multiverse god only
[42:44]knows he says by god if i were given all of this
[42:47]in exchange for what allah and ah so that i would oppress
[42:56]an end that i would take not kill the ant but take
[43:06]away what the ant carries which in this case is described as
[43:13]the leaf of a grain not the not even the grain itself
[43:19]if i were told you get all of this the kingdom of
[43:22]the heavens and the earth in exchange for this by god i
[43:26]should i wouldn't do it and so the question we need to
[43:30]ask ourselves brothers and sisters is what's our price tag do we
[43:35]have a price tag right because if you have a price tag
[43:38]even if it's the highest price it doesn't matter it's the same
[43:44]as having the smallest price tag at the end of the day
[43:49]this world is transient that's the central message of imam you can
[44:16]do whatever you want you can never take this away ever because
[44:21]allah subhanahu wa ta'ala was the one who makes every shia feel
[44:28]uneasy with the beginning of muharram every shia is like i don't
[44:35]feel comfortable i don't feel comfortable sitting at home that's why you
[44:39]have this massive global debate right now between the three to 500
[44:43]million adherents of the shia faith about should they attend the gatherings
[44:49]of lamentation and mourning should they do so in a communal fashion
[44:52]should they do it at home what should they do this that
[44:54]and the other this constant struggle because we feel uneasy how could
[45:00]i sit at home how could i not commemorate and so the
[45:07]best way to do this is to go back just a few
[45:09]generations ago how our forefathers how our ancestors commemorated the tragedy of
[45:15]abdullah by holding these intimate family gatherings where the children wouldn't just
[45:23]be spectators they would be active participants let your kids take part
[45:28]in the lamentation you as a father as a mother be the
[45:31]reciter be the speaker be the eulogizer have one of the kids
[45:39]recite to look mia afterwards do it together as a family i
[45:41]say this to all the people watching this online we're not news
[45:47]to this this isn't novel this isn't something we've never experienced before
[45:51]we did this for generations on end but you know what it's
[45:56]a good thing that you feel uneasy it's a good thing that
[46:00]you feel uncomfortable because wallahi it means that you are of legitimate
[46:05]birth because it means that allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says you want
[46:14]to know whether allah subhanahu wa loves you there's a simple litmus
[46:17]test that you can perform at home if allah wishes good for
[46:22]a slave of his husband that's why i've said this before others
[46:32]better than me have said it before i've said this before and
[46:37]i'll say it again go back to your parents and kiss their
[46:40]feet and thank them for raising you with the lot of love
[46:44]of abba abdullah in your heart i don't know honestly i don't
[46:57]know what is it about you or this sinful slave that is
[47:05]me that imam hussain happens to love which is why he invited
[47:09]us all together to commemorate him to mention him to offer condolences
[47:14]to his mother father you know how it's tradition in many cultures
[47:23]in many communities around the world where i'm sure you've heard this
[47:29]before they say that any gathering for the eulogizing of imam and
[47:35]hussain is attended by fathamatuz i haven't seen a hadith to that
[47:41]effect but i have seen a hadith where a person by the
[47:44]name of jaffa ibn afan he's a man who was a poet
[47:54]imam assad i was sitting down with a group of companions who
[47:59]were mostly from kufa min al-khufi from iraq so as the imam
[48:04]is sitting down with them this man jaffa ibn afan walks in
[48:09]the imam called out his name he said i am at your
[48:19]beck and call may my soul be ransomed for you tell me
[48:22]what do i do imam said to him i've heard that you
[48:33]recite well for imam and hussain that you read poetry for abba
[48:38]abdullah you you eulogize him is that true he said yes said
[48:44]to him would you recite a few verses of poetry so he
[48:48]began reciting poetry we have another hadith where the imam said to
[48:51]him stop stop he went and he put up a curtain to
[48:54]separate the men from the women so the women could more comfortably
[49:00]cry and commemorate abdullah and his tragedy he put him behind the
[49:06]curtain and they started reciting there are so many a hadith like
[49:11]this by the way which describe the way the imams of the
[49:14]other bait used to commemorate the tragedy of abba abdullah and there
[49:19]are so many valuable lessons in those hadiths but this is only
[49:24]one of them so foreign started reciting mawlana the imam cried the
[49:31]narrator of the hadith says everyone who was in that gathering started
[49:35]crying for the imam then when he finished the imam said to
[49:37]him the angels attended this gathering and the angels cried more than
[49:52]we cried because the angels recognized hussein the angels know who hussein
[49:56]is they cried more than we did you have just secured your
[50:05]position in paradise with this recitation of yours then the imam gave
[50:10]a golden rule that we can all apply again going back to
[50:15]the point about holding gatherings and majalis in our homes the imam
[50:19]said if you so much as right one line of poetry one
[50:26]verse for hussain if you so much as recite something that makes
[50:32]people cry for hussain if you cry or make other people cry
[50:39]paradise is all but guaranteed for you allahu akbar the imams of
[50:46]the arabic would eulogize the master of martyrs the imams would cry
[50:51]imam says to be honest with you the first night is usually
[50:58]one of the hardest nights because you don't know where to begin
[51:00]from you don't know whether you should talk about how for 34
[51:11]years al-imam sajad cried for his father how for 34 years the
[51:15]imam would walk in the marketplace and if he ever saw a
[51:20]butcher about to slaughter a sheep he would run to the butcher
[51:24]and say to him did you quench the sheep's thirst or not
[51:27]before you slaughter it did you feed it any water so the
[51:34]butcher would say abner we as butchers we never slaughter a sheep
[51:41]without first giving it water the imam would then walk backwards until
[51:46]he would rest his back on the wall and say um [Applause]
[51:56]my father was slaughtered the way a sheep is slaughtered but you
[52:01]know the difference between him and your sheep is that they never
[52:05]gave him a drop of water imam said abedin whenever he was
[52:12]offered any food no kane could he wouldn't eat the food until
[52:16]it was mixed with his tears if he was offered any drink
[52:19]he would cry and cry and cry until the drink would attain
[52:25]the taste of his tears to the point that he cried for
[52:28]thirty-five years one day they say father hussain maybe it was sakina
[52:33]or one of the other daughters of imam and hussain because they
[52:37]were all named father she came to abu hamdeth we're afraid for
[52:44]my brother i'm afraid that he would die from crying from the
[52:47]tears the tragedy would you have a word with him would you
[52:51]speak to him what should i tell him my mistress abu hamza
[52:58]said she taught him what to say [Applause] death to us is
[53:12]a habit and martyrdom [Applause] is an honorific title that we receive
[53:20]from allah the holy prophet was martyred all the way to the
[53:28]11th imam we're not new to martyrdom maybe you could tell him
[53:32]that console him were afraid he would die he went to imam
[53:38]he told him what he was taught yes you are right that
[54:06]being killed is a habit of ours and it's an honor to
[54:11]be martyred in the way of allah have you ever heard that
[54:21]prior to the day of ashura that our women would be taken
[54:28]as captives from one town to another town that has never happened
[54:36]to us what are you talking about every time i see my
[54:40]aunts every time i see my sisters i would women them running
[54:53]from one tent to another another hadith says that the imam responded
[54:58]like this had 12 sons he lost one of his twelve sons
[55:11]his son was missing yusuf was missing he wasn't even dead and
[55:16]yet he cried i know what did i see i saw 17
[55:34]of my brothers and my uncles and my nephews and my father
[55:53][Applause] oh you
