[0:03][Music] Yeah.
[0:20]Allahbar.
[0:22]Allahbar.
[0:46][Music] Allahill a shadow doan.
[0:57][Music] [Music] Sh.
[1:22]Allah.
[1:22][Music] All I could ill.
[2:22]Alhamdulillah.
[2:24]Alhamdulillah.
[3:06]Sharham Ali Muhammad Ali Muhammad.
[3:38]When My dear brothers and sisters, we live in a world of
[3:54]constant trends.
[3:53]Every few months, few years, we see something becomes trendy and everyone
[4:05]starts blindly following these trends.
[4:09]Whether it is whether it has to do with clothing, whether it
[4:15]has to do with technology, whether it has to do with beliefs
[4:20]and conversations and thought process.
[4:24]You see, many people are very quick to follow trends.
[4:30]Just a few days ago, for example, one popular trend was this
[4:37]um changing your image into a cartoon.
[4:41]You see, probably almost everyone that you know on social media did
[4:45]this.
[4:46]Now, trends are not always bad.
[4:49]Sometimes it could be positive, sometimes it could be negative.
[4:55]However, most of the trends that follow that people follow could have
[5:03]a negative impact and negative consequence.
[5:08]For example, some of the trends that can become harmful.
[5:12]One is the hyper consumerism and the brand worship.
[5:18]You see some people every week they have to go to the
[5:21]mall.
[5:22]Why is there something that you need?
[5:24]No, it's just I have to buy this because my friends are
[5:29]buying this.
[5:30]I have to purchase this item not because I need it, but
[5:33]because I see other people having it.
[5:36]I just have to fit in.
[5:39]I have to feel a sense of belonging.
[5:41]I have to be accepted by my peers and by people around
[5:43]me.
[5:44]So therefore, I'm going to go and spend X amount of dollars
[5:50]just because this is the thing that everyone else is doing.
[5:53]Maybe it's not the thing that is good for me or the
[5:56]thing that I need, but it's something that other people are doing.
[5:59]A lot one place that we find a lot of trends is
[6:05]online on social media.
[6:06]What are people talking about?
[6:08]I'm going to come and talk about that.
[6:11]Even though that's something that is maybe not the healthy thing to
[6:14]do, not the right thing to talk about, it's probably inappropriate.
[6:17]What are people posting online?
[6:19]Therefore, I'm going to come and post that as well.
[6:24]And there's it becomes a type of addiction with some people because
[6:28]there's a need to feel a sense of belonging.
[6:33]There's a need to fit in.
[6:34]And believe me, those people who do that, they keep trying to
[6:39]get they keep trying to fit in and fit in and do
[6:40]so much.
[6:41]In the end, they lose their followers or they're not going to
[6:46]fit in or something is not going to go their way.
[6:48]You want acceptance, seek acceptance from Allah subhanana wa ta'ala.
[6:52]He's the only one who will accept you for who you are.
[6:56]You don't need to change your ways for Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
[6:59]to accept you.
[7:02]While when it comes to others, when it comes to fitting in,
[7:04]when it comes to trends, or when it comes to following what
[7:09]is trendy and what is acceptable, you're always going to find people
[7:14]that disapprove of you.
[7:14]We see trends when it comes to media and entertainment.
[7:18]Sometimes there's there you see this with promoters, people that are are
[7:23]famous online or people that have accounts.
[7:26]You see, they're willing to post things or do things or say
[7:31]things that are harmful that take away from their own dignity and
[7:35]values, but they're willing to do it just so they could be
[7:38]on top of the trending list.
[7:38]Just so people could say this person is popular, this person is
[7:45]accepted.
[7:46]And a lot of what is being posted is immoral, inappropriate.
[7:49]It goes against the human dignity.
[7:51]You know, I see a lot of youth sometimes they do certain
[7:58]things that even they don't feel comfortable doing.
[7:59]But why are they doing it?
[8:03]They're doing it because they want to be accepted.
[8:06]And this is as a result of pure pressure.
[8:07]This is as a result of having and associating with bad friends
[8:12]and having that need to fit in.
[8:14]But Allah subhana wa ta'ala says we have dignified the human being.
[8:19]You don't need to do something that takes away from your own
[8:25]dignity and to to fit in when Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala has
[8:29]already honored you and dignified you.
[8:32]Another trend that you find for example as soon as the month
[8:40]of June begins they call it pride month and unfortunately you see
[8:44]some Muslims on their account what do they do?
[8:49]They come and they put the flag because they say, "Oh, I
[8:51]have to fit in.
[8:52]I have to be accepted.
[8:52]I want to show that I'm tolerant.
[8:55]I want to show that I'm okay with other people.
[8:58]They're supporting me.
[8:58]Therefore, I have to support them." Doesn't work that way.
[9:02]My dear brothers and sisters, you are not required to compromise your
[9:06]beliefs and your values to fit in.
[9:10]We don't ride any bandwagon that's going.
[9:12]You have to make sure that whatever you're putting yourself in, whatever
[9:17]trend you're following, whatever you're posting online, whatever you're talking about, whatever
[9:24]you're wearing is something that is pleasing to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
[9:30]before anyone else.
[9:30]Now, this brings us to one idea that a lot of people
[9:35]have in mind is as long as the majority are doing something,
[9:38]then that makes it okay.
[9:42]meaning whatever the majority are doing then that's the right thing to
[9:49]do because the majority are doing that well this logic is a
[9:53]logic that goes against the Quran and it goes against the and
[9:57]it goes against the intellect Allah subhanaha says in the Quran if
[10:05]you obey people the majority of the people if you follow them
[10:10]what are they going to they're going to bring you away from
[10:13]Allah subhana wa ta'ala.
[10:16]So there should never in anything that you do in your life,
[10:19]whatever it is, whether it comes to clothing, whether it comes to
[10:22]what I post online, whether it comes to how I spend my
[10:26]time, whether it comes to anything, the excuse should never be because
[10:29]the majority of people are doing it.
[10:31]Just because the majority of people are doing it does not mean
[10:36]it's correct.
[10:35]Does not mean it's good for me.
[10:39]And here this is something that we have to be very careful
[10:42]with.
[10:43]You see this argument is used with many of those who did
[10:48]not follow the they say the majority did not follow then that
[10:50]means the is that way.
[10:51]No that's not the truth.
[10:54]Allah subhana wa ta says just because the majority are doing something
[11:01]that does not make it right.
[11:03]That does not make it okay.
[11:08]And this is one following the majority.
[11:11]Another is to please grab a someone grab a chair please for
[11:16]the Hajj.
[11:15]So the the the to follow the majority we should not follow
[11:22]the majority.
[11:24]That's number one.
[11:22]Number two we should not be imitating other people.
[11:27]Some people they have this need this desire to always imitate what
[11:36]other people are doing.
[11:36]No.
[11:36]If you're a mman, if you're a believer, if you're a Muslim,
[11:40]you're a follower of faith, you be the trends setter in your
[11:44]community, you be the trends setter in your society.
[11:46]You don't have to always follow what other people are doing.
[11:50]The prophets of Allah, were they trendsetters or were they followers?
[11:55]No, they were trendsetters.
[11:56]And that's why many people in their communities and societies went against
[12:01]them because they could not handle what they are doing.
[12:04]But you see the kufur when the prophets when prophet N and
[12:09]prophet and prophet hood and all of the prophets they would speak
[12:12]to their people and they would say nope we want to remain
[12:18]idol worshippers and what was their excuse?
[12:22]They [Music] say we saw our ancestors and we are following this
[12:32]even though they know it's wrong because the Quran says meaning their
[12:38]souls accepted the message of the prophet but their desires rejected.
[12:42]Why?
[12:43]Because they wanted to imitate others.
[12:45]In this case, they wanted to imitate their forefathers.
[12:52]And this is a very big challenge.
[12:54]And I I give a lot of credit to individuals and you
[12:57]see this with converts or reverts or people that make a change,
[13:03]a switch in their life.
[13:03]I give them a lot of credit.
[13:05]Why?
[13:06]Because they're not blind followers.
[13:08]Because they're not just saying, you know what, I'm going to do
[13:10]this just because my family is doing this.
[13:13]I'm doing this just because my parents or my ancestors are doing
[13:17]this.
[13:16]In fact, not only are they not blind followers, they're actually going
[13:20]against what their parents and what their grandparents and what their ancestors
[13:25]would teach them.
[13:28]And this is a sign of strength.
[13:30]This is a sign of im.
[13:31]And this is a a sign of strong willpower.
[13:34]And I tell this to Muslims all the time.
[13:36]My dear brothers and sisters, whether you're a follower of the al
[13:39]whatever, do not say I'm a Muslim because my parents are Muslim.
[13:43]Allah is not going to accept this on the day of judgment.
[13:45]You need to be a Muslim because you came to the conviction.
[13:51]You have the conviction and we should not be of those people
[13:54]who are following and imitating.
[14:02]We should not be from those who just follow people.
[14:08]Now someone might come and say what about we do we we
[14:11]we follow scholars we emulate scholars isn't this imitation isn't this following
[14:17]is following but is not following when it comes to when it
[14:22]comes to your beliefs when it comes to your sense of beliefs
[14:27]the belief in the Quran the belief in the day of judgment
[14:29]the belief in the prophet I cannot say I'm following Islam because
[14:32]of the pro because of these people or because of my family
[14:37]No, is when it comes to Islamic law.
[14:42]For example, how do I pray?
[14:42]I need someone to teach me how to pray.
[14:44]How what are the rules of fasting?
[14:45]I need someone to teach me the rules of fasting.
[14:48]What are the rules of Hajj?
[14:49]I need someone to teach me.
[14:50]I emulate a scholar.
[14:53]when it comes to these issues, the issues of the the branches
[14:58]of faith, not the so we mentioned sometimes um we have to
[15:04]be careful just because the majority are doing something that does not
[15:08]make it correct and we should not be blindly imitating.
[15:13]We're talking about people who are following trends, trends in the community
[15:17]and society that are always happening.
[15:19]Some people they're very quick to follow a trend.
[15:21]And my dear brothers and sisters, sometimes being alone and living a
[15:27]lifestyle that you are doing things alone and you're not following blindly,
[15:32]this is much better for your and for your than following people
[15:39]and ending up losing, ending up doing something wrong.
[15:44]In a from he says He says, "Do not feel like you're
[15:54]a stranger when you're on the path of the hak because there
[15:57]are not many people with you.
[15:58]There are not many people on the the majority of the people
[16:04]they'll follow the majority.
[16:04]They'll follow the bandwagon.
[16:05]They'll go where there is haram, where there's entertainment, where there is
[16:10]wrong.
[16:11]But only small number of people are going to deviate from the
[16:15]wrong and remain on the h.
[16:18]And this is what we ask Allah subhana wa t'ala for every
[16:20]day in our prayers.
[16:22]My dear brothers and sisters, every day we do this dua.
[16:25]The number the first dua that we all perform every day in
[16:29]our salah.
[16:40]Alhamdulillah.
[16:41]Guide me to the straight path.
[16:43]What am I saying when I'm doing this dua?
[16:45]That means I don't know.
[16:49]I need your guidance.
[16:49]Maybe I see the majority of people are doing something, but this
[16:52]is probably not the I need your guidance to guide me to
[16:58]the straight path and keep me on the straight path.
[17:00]And here we see every day we're tested with this.
[17:04]Do I make a decision that follows the majority even if it's
[17:11]wrong or do I become a lonely person?
[17:13]Maybe I'll become a lonely person.
[17:14]Maybe I won't have friends.
[17:17]You know, he says the hak did not leave me any friends.
[17:20]There was there was the hak did not leave me any companions.
[17:25]This is why he was left alone.
[17:27]There was other companions.
[17:27]One of them was Abu Al- Gafari.
[17:30]Abu Dafari, this great companion of Allah.
[17:33]He was one of the first seven to join the the religion
[17:38]of Islam.
[17:39]He was with the prophet.
[17:40]You know what happened to Abu Alfari?
[17:43]Abu Alfafari he ended up dying all alone in Rabada.
[17:47]He was excommunicated from the Muslim community.
[17:48]He was pushed out.
[17:52]Why?
[17:50]Because he dared to say the truth in a time that people
[17:54]were afraid to say the truth.
[17:55]In a time that everyone was compromising the truth and afraid to
[17:59]speak out he spoke out.
[18:06]This is why he tells Abu he tells him he tells him
[18:18]oh Abu you're going to live alone.
[18:21]You're going to die alone and you're going to be resurrected alone
[18:24]and you're going to live a life that you're all alone.
[18:28]But on the day of judgment, you go to heaven alone as
[18:30]well.
[18:31]Why?
[18:32]Because Abu Dafi, he was a person that did not follow the
[18:39]masses.
[18:37]He did not blindly follow what everyone else is doing.
[18:41]And he spoke the word of truth.
[18:43]And this is why Allah also says about him, he says there's
[18:48]no one more honest than Abu than Abu Dar because he was
[18:51]he was a person that always remained with the truth but he
[18:56]paid the price.
[18:57]He paid the consequences.
[18:59]He was excommunicated from the community during the during the reign of
[19:04]the third Khalifa.
[19:03]He kicked him out of Medina and he tells him where is
[19:09]your favorite place to be?
[19:09]He tells him Medina next to Allah.
[19:11]He tells him, "Where's the worst place that you want to be?"
[19:15]He tells him, "Rabbada." Rabba is a a desert between Mecca and
[19:18]Medina.
[19:19]So Abu, he was excommunicated to die in Raada.
[19:23]And none of the Muslims were allowed to come and say farewell
[19:27]to Abu Dar and Hassan Hussein.
[19:30]They came out and they bid farewell to this great man.
[19:33]We ask Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to make us from those who
[19:40]do not follow and imitate others blindly.
[20:05]Aliham.
[20:07]Alhamdulillah.
[20:09]Alhamdulillah.
[20:36]Aliham.
[20:41]Muhammadu Muhammad.
[21:11]Hussein Hussein Ali Muhammad Musham My dear brothers and sisters, when it
[21:39]comes to when it comes to imitation and following trends, sometimes it
[21:48]could become very dangerous and it could become something that is that
[21:55]is wrong especially when we are imitating that which is that which
[22:00]is wrong.
[22:02]This is why one of the one of the acts that are
[22:09]considered to be haram in our faith is meaning imitating non-believers.
[22:15]Imitating non-believers, especially when it comes to a practice that directly goes
[22:22]against my belief, directly goes against my ideology.
[22:27]Now, if I'm imitating them in something that does not contradict directly
[22:32]contradict my faith and my belief, there's nothing wrong with that.
[22:36]But when it comes to when it comes to um a practice
[22:42]an act that will directly go against my faith now I have
[22:45]to draw a red line.
[22:48]That's it.
[22:47]I cannot imitate that because the moment I step across that line
[22:52]then that means I'm telling my own beliefs and my values.
[22:54]I don't care about these beliefs and values.
[22:56]So this is why my dear brothers and sisters, we have to
[23:01]be very careful.
[23:00]And there are a lot of practices.
[23:03]People always come and ask me, can we celebrate Halloween?
[23:08]Can we light up our house in Christmas?
[23:12]Can we do this and that?
[23:13]If you're doing it because it's a you're just doing it for
[23:16]fun, you know, you want some candy on Halloween, then there's nothing
[23:22]wrong with that.
[23:22]But some people they religiously abide by all of these holidays but
[23:26]then when it comes to Islamic holidays the birth of the prophet
[23:30]the day of the of Eid they're nowhere to be seen.
[23:36]Uh you know and I've someone told me in our subdivision the
[23:39]the most decorated house and during Christmas is a house that Muslims
[23:48]live in.
[23:45]So, so you see this is a reality and now you want
[23:50]to decorate.
[23:51]There's nothing wrong with decorating but decorate as well during our holidays.
[23:54]Right now we just had the Eid.
[23:57]Did anyone of us for example put lights up and mashallah we
[24:00]have alhamdulillah.
[24:02]So, so that is the holiday that we have to celebrate.
[24:04]Be follow your own trends.
[24:08]I don't need to go out of my way to follow others
[24:10]especially if it is following something that goes against my beliefs right
[24:14]now.
[24:15]for example, kids come in February 14th, they're like Valentine's Day, October
[24:20]31st, Halloween, St.
[24:21]Patrick's Day, Christmas, all of these events.
[24:24]Now, you want if you're not celebrating it because you actually believe
[24:28]in some of that, then there's nothing wrong with that.
[24:33]However, um if you're actually believing it and you're ignoring your own
[24:38]beliefs, then it becomes a problem.
[24:40]In a hadith from Imam, he says, In aith he says Allah
[24:50]revealed to one of the prophets, one of the many prophets.
[24:52]He tells them do not dress, do not eat, and do not
[25:06]live your life in the way that the enemies of God live
[25:11]their life.
[25:12]So now you know in some cultures they say it's haram for
[25:14]example to wear pants or something.
[25:16]No this is this is not what the are doing but if
[25:20]there is something that is if there if there is something that
[25:23]is truly going against our against our belief and against our practices
[25:29]then that is something that we have to be very very careful
[25:35]with.
[25:35]So here in another verse Allah subhana t says in the [Music]
[25:44]Quran the kufur they want you to do kufur so that you
[25:49]and them could be together so both of you reject the truth
[25:51]but if you're a person with the then you have to hold
[25:55]on to the h and being with the huck my dear brothers
[25:59]and sisters is not always easy so some of the dangers of
[26:02]blind following and blind imitating and following trends.
[26:06]One, it it leads to the loss of identity.
[26:09]You don't have your own identity anymore.
[26:11]Now you're celebrating someone else's Eid and you're dressing like everyone else
[26:15]and you're where's your identity?
[26:16]Where's your Muslim identity?
[26:18]And second, it creates confusion between right and wrong.
[26:23]Maybe the adults, they know where the huck and the battle is,
[26:25]but when your kids, you're you're sending them the wrong message.
[26:27]Now, they're not going to know where huck and battle is.
[26:33]And probably one of the consequences is that we lose the protection
[26:36]from Allah subhana wa ta'ala.
[26:37]The moment you fall in, the moment you fall in oppression, then
[26:41]Allah subhana wa ta'ala does not answer the duas.
[26:45]And my dear brothers and sisters, we live in a time especially
[26:51]when it comes to politics.
[26:51]We are the minority.
[26:52]You see right now those who are standing with the hak those
[26:57]who are standing with the truth just by defending gaza in Palestine
[27:02]you're already singled out you're already seen and portrayed as if you
[27:07]are in the wrong my dear brothers and sisters the suffering is
[27:14]continuing and until today we see a school was attacked in Gaza
[27:19]and Lebanon and in Syria and Yemen and all over.
[27:23]We have to continue doing dua.
[27:25]My dear brothers and sisters, we pray that Allah subhana wa ta'ala
[27:28]relieves the Muslim world and all of the of the suffering that
[27:34]is going on.
[27:35]Alhamdulillah.
[27:36]Let us raise our hands in dua.
[28:14]Alhamdulillah.
[28:15]Then
