[2:13]yazid's love of alcohol and his drunkard ways no doubt highlighted the
[2:20]state of despair that the religion of islam had faced fifty years
[2:24]after rasulullah had passed away indeed you find that the umayyads generally
[2:31]were known for their love of the drink they would love drinking
[2:36]alcohol in their gatherings and in some cases no gathering for them
[2:41]would be complete without indulging in this scene as one of the
[2:45]greatest sins in the religion of islam because as we know that
[2:49]the religion of islam is not the only religion that prohibits alcohol
[2:53]one can find in the abrahamic faiths the prohibition of alcohol if
[2:58]a person goes to judaism for example and asks them that is
[3:03]alcohol allowed or is it prohibited you'll find that the jewish community
[3:07]will make it clear to you that within their text alcohol is
[3:11]prohibited likewise there are other faiths in the world today that in
[3:16]their original scriptures they will talk to you about the fact that
[3:20]alcohol is prohibited that alcohol is seen as one of the greatest
[3:24]sins that can affect any human being and the reality is that
[3:28]even if i wasn't a muslim if i look at the disadvantages
[3:33]of alcohol in the world today and indeed in human history then
[3:38]i didn't need religion for someone to advise me as to the
[3:43]negatives of alcohol if we look around us in the world today
[3:47]each and every one of us in one way or another will
[3:50]know of somebody who would have been affected by alcohol in a
[3:54]negative way how many times do you hear of people who may
[3:57]be your neighbors who may lose a member of their family due
[4:00]to a car crash when you ask about the car crash and
[4:04]what took place in many cases you hear about driving under the
[4:08]influence driving under the influence highlights to us that a person may
[4:14]have been influenced by the intake of alcohol for example that person
[4:20]may have drunk too much that night and therefore him drinking or
[4:24]her drinking too much that night results in an accident that could
[4:27]be devastating to a whole family because when one family loses a
[4:32]member of their household it takes years for them to recover what
[4:36]then could happen is that a member of their own household could
[4:39]then go into the world of alcohol because how do some people
[4:43]recover from a moment of difficulty in their life when things spiral
[4:48]out of control they resort to the drink they feel that the
[4:52]drink is what takes away all the demons what takes away all
[4:55]the ghosts when the reality is that the drink may increase the
[4:59]demons and may increase the ghosts so you find that unfortunately in
[5:04]the world today there are many who for example die because of
[5:07]a car accident involving alcohol other forms of transport where alcohol has
[5:13]influenced the drivers likewise not only those who die from these things
[5:18]but those who are abused because of the effect of alcohol sometimes
[5:23]you hear that there are certain children who have been sexually abused
[5:27]the abuse has come because in some cases of a perverted member
[5:32]of a society but in other cases because of the influence of
[5:36]alcohol it's no surprise that the prophet sallallahu alaihihim speak of the
[5:42]fact that even an act as sordid and as disgusting as incest
[5:49]can be done by someone who's been affected by alcohol because when
[5:54]you completely lose your senses what limit do you have as a
[5:58]human being reality is that when i am in my senses i
[6:02]may still perform an act that is immoral let alone if i
[6:05]have lost my senses there are times when i am in my
[6:08]senses and i may perform an act that an animal may not
[6:11]perform but imagine i've lost all sense of control how many times
[6:16]do you see in some countries on a friday night or on
[6:19]a saturday night you're not looking at a human being anymore you're
[6:22]not even looking at an animal because an animal doesn't deserve to
[6:26]even be given that particular description when you look at that same
[6:31]person who from nine to five when they sit in front of
[6:35]you on an office desk is the most formal person the most
[6:39]moral person the way they talk to you you must have respect
[6:44]don't look at me in a rude way don't look at me
[6:47]in a perverted way a few hours later at 11pm in town
[6:51]it's the complete opposite the same person who speaks to you with
[6:55]class speaks to you like a human speaks to a fellow human
[7:00]now has completely forgotten what they're doing that night and what's unbelievable
[7:05]is how a night when you've completely forgotten what you've done becomes
[7:10]the best night of the year you find some people they'll say
[7:13]to you that i had an amazing night last night you say
[7:16]really what happened i can't remember so how does that add up
[7:20]to it being amazing they say because it was so amazing that
[7:24]we were all together we had a laugh okay you had a
[7:26]laugh tell me the stories i'm not sure i'm not sure exactly
[7:30]what the stories were but we in the past night were so
[7:35]consumed and intoxicated that i heard that i was making jokes i
[7:40]went up on stage and started dancing and people were laughing and
[7:43]someone's recorded me that really is what is a laugh when you
[7:48]can't remember a night that's what's called a laugh so you find
[7:52]in some cases some people have given into the story that if
[7:56]you consume a lot of alcohol in a night that means it's
[8:00]a great night there are some even if there is no tab
[8:03]of alcohol being drunk in a wedding they cannot have a nice
[8:06]wedding they cannot there must be alcohol there and let's make something
[8:11]very clear here let's not say that non muslims are the only
[8:14]ones who drink alcohol sometimes if you want a good competition for
[8:18]who can drink the most some muslims are the best drinkers as
[8:22]in there are certain flights from the middle east the moment they
[8:25]touch down in a western country straight away there's an order of
[8:29]alcohol they know in their own countries unless they have a private
[8:33]party in the house where they can get alcohol into the house
[8:36]they cannot drink openly in some of these countries the moment they
[8:40]find an area where they can drink there are some people who
[8:44]have got the name of the prophet who can drink more than
[8:46]others who don't have his name you go to certain countries in
[8:50]the muslim majority world muslim majority countries and some of these muslims
[8:55]are the ones who drink more than any other you'd look at
[8:58]them and you'd think you who are named after the holy prophet
[9:01]peace be upon him his family or you who claim to love
[9:05]the ahlul bayt what are you doing drinking in a club on
[9:08]a friday or saturday night believe you me there are people who
[9:11]sponsor majalis of imam al hussain alaihi salaam who are on the
[9:15]front line of the aza of imam al hussain alaihi salaam you'll
[9:19]find these same people are the ones who find it normal that
[9:23]when they party they have to drink you say but hold on
[9:25]how do the two come together as in if you on the
[9:28]one hand claim to love imam al hussain alaihi salaam and you
[9:31]do laana on yazid for example because was a person who was
[9:36]a drunkard then how is it that you then begin to act
[9:40]like the person you're doing on so let's not beat around the
[9:43]bush the reality is that even in the muslim community there is
[9:47]a major drinking problem a drinking problem that nobody wants to point
[9:51]a finger at and that even some people will say bro you
[9:54]know what i know he drinks but he's a hosseini this is
[9:57]the biggest myth shaitaan has thrown at us sometimes when a person
[10:01]does haram the whole year as long as he's a hosseini that's
[10:05]enough for them to get a green card or to get a
[10:07]pass reality is you're a hosseini what is one of the barometers
[10:13]and one of the litmus tests is your relationship with alcohol that's
[10:17]why it flabbergast me in this country when people and other countries
[10:21]when they want to put a prohibition on alcohol straight away there's
[10:25]uproar reality is while you allow poison to be sold in the
[10:29]streets there's always a chance of immorality taking place when you see
[10:34]for example a rape takes place i guarantee you that one of
[10:38]the important areas or one of the poisons involved was alcohol if
[10:43]you see for example pedophilia i'm telling you alcohol if you see
[10:47]for example swearing and cursing at people on the street alcohol alcohol
[10:52]without a doubt when the imams talk about it being the key
[10:55]to vices you see it in front of you whether you're a
[10:58]muslim or not but the question arises how did we reach a
[11:02]stage where islam which prohibits alcohol now had the very people at
[11:08]the helm of the religion as drunkards fifty years earlier in the
[11:13]eleventh year after hijra the man who came with this religion had
[11:17]prohibited alcohol sixty first year after hijra you have a man sitting
[11:23]at the seat of the islamic empire who was known for drinking
[11:28]alcohol how did we reach the stage let's tonight examine alcohol and
[11:33]its discussions within islamic law as well as islamic history in order
[11:38]that we see that how is it that fifty years after rasulullah
[11:41]sallallahu alaihi wa'alehi died the grandson of hinn sits with alcohol next
[11:45]to the head of the grandson of muhammad sallallahu alaihi wa'alehi and
[11:49]i'd like to do this in the following stages number one which
[11:52]prophet of allah subhanahu wa ta'ala was beheaded in sham simply because
[11:59]of alcohol number two how does the quran differ with the bible
[12:04]about prophets and their relationship with alcohol number three how did rasulullah
[12:09]come with a mission that had to prohibit alcohol and why did
[12:15]he prohibit alcohol and not allow everyone to have fun with alcohol
[12:21]number four how about the laws of islam in relation to alcohol
[12:24]if i for example i'm in a business and there are meetings
[12:28]where there's alcohol on the table or i go to a halal
[12:30]restaurant that serves alcohol am i allowed to am i not what
[12:35]are the opinions of the imams and the jurists who teach us
[12:37]what the imams say number five how did the umayyads bring back
[12:42]the drinking culture especially the governor of the third khalifa in kufa
[12:47]how much did he enjoy a drink especially just before salat al
[12:52]fajr after that how did the umayyads continue this trend and how
[12:56]do they always try and protect muawiyah's reputation when it comes to
[13:00]alcohol number six how does the apple not fall far from the
[13:05]tree and how is it that one day knowledge lies on the
[13:09]ground of karabbalah while alcohol and silk sit on the throne in
[13:14]damascus let's examine this and dissect the topic in complete depth when
[13:19]you look at those who are chosen by allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
[13:22]such as the prophets of god you find that without a doubt
[13:26]they are seen as the most moral personalities they are the ones
[13:30]who teach us morality ultimately the person who sits at the helm
[13:34]of the religion cannot be somebody who's known for his immoral character
[13:38]has to be somebody who's known for his reasoning and rationality above
[13:43]his emotion because the reality is that if a person sits at
[13:48]the helm of a religion and alcohol is part and parcel of
[13:52]their character then that person at any second can make a rash
[13:56]decision at any second can completely lose their senses but some of
[14:00]these prophets were not political leaders or did not get to the
[14:04]political helm of them prophet yahya alaihi salaam john the baptist john
[14:09]the baptist was not the political lead of his time he was
[14:13]a prophet of allah comes at the same time as prophet jesus
[14:17]a relationship that we share with the christians and our love for
[14:23]nabi yahya and our love for nabi isa nabi yahya alaihi salaam
[14:29]was known for his piety was known for his morality never would
[14:32]alcohol come near him and the king of his time also knew
[14:37]that this yahya alaihi salaam was known for his piety so the
[14:42]king would use him as an advisor the way that nabi zakaria
[14:45]was an advisor or used as an advisor by the king of
[14:49]his time where was the king of his time in sham the
[14:53]king of his time was in sham nabi yahya whenever the king
[14:57]required any advice nabi yahya would be there to advise him the
[15:01]king on one occasion when his brother had died the king had
[15:06]married who had married according to certain traditions the wife of his
[15:11]brother when his brother passed away he married the wife you found
[15:16]that that wife wanted a particular seat of power for her children
[15:20]she wanted them to one day sit on the throne of damascus
[15:24]sits on the throne of sham in an elevated position but how
[15:28]was she going to do this considering the king his lineage would
[15:31]continue in power not the lineage of her ex husband so what
[15:35]she decided was that she'd make sure that her daughter looked in
[15:39]her finest one day and so that daughter would walk into the
[15:43]palace of shamm one day and walk in in front of the
[15:47]king when that daughter walked in in front of the king the
[15:51]king looked and said that this is the most beautiful that you've
[15:55]ever looked i've never seen you blossom into this beautiful body and
[15:59]this beautiful face the mother turned around and said well you know
[16:03]she's now matured but it's a shame that you cannot get her
[16:07]he said no i want her i said well if you want
[16:10]her then she's there for you he said wait let me ask
[16:14]nabi yahya alaihi salaam let me see what's the ruling on me
[16:18]marrying for example the daughter of my new wife when he came
[16:23]to nabi yahya said to him that this is prohibited in god's
[16:27]law whether it's the mosaic law or whatever god's law is it's
[16:32]prohibited that a person cannot do this now that you've married her
[16:35]mom you cannot marry the girl as well maybe the law was
[16:39]different if for example you were talking about let's say your wife's
[16:44]niece or something along those lines but in this particular situation he
[16:48]said to me he said to me there's no loophole there surely
[16:51]there's a way around it he said there's no way around it
[16:53]at all he came back to the mom and he said to
[16:55]her to his wife his new wife he said there's no way
[16:58]this can happen she said why he said because my prophet yahya
[17:02]said it can't according to the law we cannot go ahead with
[17:06]this she decided the only way that this king would lose his
[17:11]senses if i get him intoxicated isn't it the human being can
[17:15]be a person of great respect the moment alcohol comes into them
[17:21]then you'll find that it slowly begins to devour them one glass
[17:25]of wine may not affect you but when you are in an
[17:28]environment where it's encouraged to drink and merry make the whole night
[17:33]eventually it's gonna come back to haunt you so what happened was
[17:37]she made sure that her husband was intoxicated and she made sure
[17:42]that if you put alongside that intoxication a particular moment where the
[17:46]girl walks in scantily dressed then what's gonna happen there's a chance
[17:51]either he's gonna attack her he's gonna be a predator at that
[17:55]moment or she is gonna stop him and say wait lure him
[18:00]in let him get closer when she lured him in he looked
[18:05]at her said i want you now she said you can have
[18:06]me i don't mind but you have to give me the head
[18:09]of yahya i want nabi yahya beheaded and i want his head
[18:16]placed in a dish a golden dish place his head in the
[18:21]middle of sham and i want that head placed there he said
[18:25]that's what it takes for me to have you she said that's
[18:27]all it takes so at that moment said very well he ordered
[18:32]his soldiers they said to him what is it he said i
[18:34]want yahya to come towards us to do what you want advice
[18:38]from him said no no advice then what do you want we
[18:41]want him beheaded i want him executed and i want his head
[18:44]in the middle of sham they said to him fear allah subhanahu
[18:47]wa ta'ala this is a nabi of the nbiar you are at
[18:51]the helm god has blessed you with a position one of the
[18:54]signs of god you don't behead him you don't parade his head
[18:58]on the street this is something disgusting something disgraceful he said no
[19:03]i sit here in my seat of power and sham and no
[19:07]one comes near the seat of power i want him to be
[19:11]finished narrations mention that they went and grabbed nabi yahya alaihi salaam
[19:16]when they grabbed him he said to him fear allah subhanahu wa
[19:19]ta'ala do not do such a thing he said no i want
[19:22]to he said but allah subhanahu ta'ala will give you better don't
[19:24]do it what did he do when alcohol overtakes you wallah there's
[19:28]no limit to what you could do you could stamp on someone's
[19:31]head and kick his head in until you've forgotten whether he's died
[19:35]or no and you don't even care you can abuse a child
[19:39]without caring about the future of that child you could kill a
[19:42]human being alcohol is a key to so many vices that it's
[19:47]unbelievable how the human being has not learned from everything that they
[19:51]see in front of them in terms of its dangers they beheaded
[19:54]nabi yahya alaihi salaam and they placed his head in the middle
[19:58]of a dish in the middle of sham paraded by everyone you
[20:02]found from here what happened from here straight away there was a
[20:07]feeling that the sky has begun to cry when nabi yahya alaihi
[20:11]salaam was killed that we have a hadith that bring a similarity
[20:16]between nabi yahya and imam al hussain alaihi salaam you found that
[20:19]nabi yahya the skies begin to weep and that he was eventually
[20:23]avenged by nabooshan nazar nabi yahya alaihi salaam therefore what was it
[20:28]that killed him he was a sign of allah on earth but
[20:31]when you had someone at the helm of that particular nation who
[20:36]was a drunkard sitting in sham then that person has no limit
[20:40]if one day he's feeling that he's angry and the drink is
[20:44]next to him there is no limit to what that person will
[20:48]do and that's why for us we say that the prophets of
[20:51]allah faced certain rulers who were drunkards but never themselves drunk that's
[20:56]where we differ with the bible because you know sometimes people come
[20:59]and say that the quran is a copy of the bible all
[21:02]the prophets in the quran are in the bible noah is in
[21:05]the bible lot is in the bible ibrahim is in the bible
[21:08]musa is in the bible isa is in the bible dawud is
[21:11]in the bible sulaiman is in the bible yes they are in
[21:14]the bible but the depiction of those prophets in the bible is
[21:18]different from the quran in the quran dawud commits zina we don't
[21:22]believe this in the bible dawud commits zina in the quran we
[21:26]don't believe such a thing in the bible lot sleeps with his
[21:30]daughters and commits incest we don't believe such a thing for the
[21:33]quran and nabiloth likewise in the quran you found that we don't
[21:39]believe nabil nuh was a drunkard in the bible we see noah
[21:43]faces a moment of difficulty where he becomes drunk and intoxicated we
[21:48]don't believe this the prophets of allah are the greatest role models
[21:52]they know very well what alcohol does to society they know the
[21:56]effects alcohol has they know how much of a disaster alcohol has
[22:01]been and continues to be for even celebrities film stars football players
[22:06]who find it hard to rehabilitate for us to say nabi nukh
[22:10]alaihis salam in the bible was drunk is something astaghfirullah we don't
[22:15]believe in such a thing nabi ibrahim nabi musa nabi ihsan nabi
[22:19]muhammad all of these are ulil azim people of determination people of
[22:25]valor and patience and discipline therefore for us every prophet of allah
[22:30]subhanahu wa ta'ala would speak out against alcohol and the taverns of
[22:34]alcohol why because if they've come for social reform if you want
[22:38]to bring reform in your society how many times do you hear
[22:40]government saying we have a plan for reform for the youth while
[22:44]you have pubs available for everybody there's no youth reform happening i'm
[22:47]telling you there's no youth reform happening when you look at certain
[22:51]places on a friday night there's no youth reform happening exactly this
[22:55]is what rasool allah saw growing up in mecca why because in
[23:00]mecca you had a group of people their life was what their
[23:03]life was alcohol and the head of them was who abu sufyan
[23:08]abu sufyan was the head of those who promoted alcohol in mecca
[23:14]because many of the youth in mecca any society whether youth are
[23:18]introduced to alcohol is a society that you can wash your hands
[23:22]from very soon because when a youth can resort to alcohol then
[23:27]number one that willpower that they're meant to have is gone because
[23:31]now they go into a world where this is the remedy a
[23:35]friday night or a saturday night is not complete unless i drink
[23:39]covid is a disaster unless that pub is open for me that's
[23:43]the most important thing for me make sure that pub and its
[23:46]opening hours are there the pubs in mecca were there there were
[23:50]taverns in mecca and those taverns people would go and sit down
[23:54]abu sufyan would drink and drink and the young muawiyah would enjoy
[23:58]being with his dad the young muawiyah was enjoying being around his
[24:03]dad these guys would all come sit love a drink they go
[24:07]to war that night at badero uhud or khanda they were drinking
[24:12]non stop for them they were drinking non stop whereas opposite to
[24:17]them there was a family who had never had alcohol come near
[24:20]them who abdul muttalib abu talib fatima bin asad khadijam and khwailid
[24:28]these were the bastions of light of purity where alcohol never ever
[24:33]touched them of ignorance and everything that surrounded it never touched al
[24:46]muhammad never it never came near them abdul muttalib never from the
[24:51]day he's born never once that alcohol come near him yes there
[24:55]may have been others i could not deny maybe there were others
[24:58]of the brothers maybe abu lahab intoxicated one day but abdul mutalib
[25:02]alcohol would never touch him abu talib not once did alcohol touch
[25:07]him you had four people like jafar al tayyar and imam ali
[25:11]alaihis salam look at the difference upbringing and imam ali's upbringing alcohol
[25:16]left right and center even muawiyah himself admits that until rasulullah prohibited
[25:24]it we were drinking we're part of our culture was that we
[25:28]were drinking notice how he says until rasulullah prohibited not the lord
[25:32]of muhammad anyway he says what that he used to be around
[25:36]abu sufyan abu sufyan used to drink but some of those who
[25:40]were also there who were known for drinking they slowly began to
[25:45]come towards the religion of islam they were converts but you know
[25:49]when you convert even still there are a couple of old sins
[25:52]you may still have sometimes i tell people when someone converts yes
[25:56]we want them to fully submit but also be patient and with
[25:59]them it's not easy one day just to do a one eighty
[26:02]there are some who end up doing a three sixty coming back
[26:06]exactly to how they were originally why because of our pressure slowly
[26:09]but of the things they found difficult was alcohol they used to
[26:13]love having a drink and now all of a sudden you say
[26:15]to him that alcohol is haram so the quran came down with
[26:19]the ayah surah four verse 43 notice what the quran did it
[26:23]prohibited alcohol in stage by stage not all in one day it
[26:29]began by saying what you who believe do not approach salah while
[26:41]you are what saqqara in arabic when we see someone drunk we
[26:46]say how the saqqara why because you got make sure you know
[26:54]what you're saying you know there are some people who go clubbing
[26:57]in central london but he comes home and prays fajr he's clubbing
[27:01]in central and he'll come home he said bruhako pray fajr you
[27:05]say to him you're from the ummah of muhammad he says yeah
[27:09]bro we had a long night but i've never missed fajr one
[27:11]thing i never miss is fajr no no we don't want that
[27:14]because we don't want you saying bismillah rahman rahim alhamdulillah rabbalaam and
[27:17]then jumping we want you to make sure you know what you're
[27:19]saying don't approach salah while you are intoxicated there's a myth in
[27:23]our communities that if you drink alcohol you cannot pray for forty
[27:27]days this is not true a person drinks alcohol still has to
[27:31]pray salah some people they use this as an excuse that proclaims
[27:34]i drunk i don't pray for the next forty days no no
[27:37]you pray there's no way salah stops salah you could be on
[27:40]your deathbed you still have to pray salah you can be in
[27:43]an emergency you can still even move your eyes for example salaah
[27:46]still has to be prayed but the prophet peace be upon him
[27:50]and his family in reforming society and we're talking fifty years before
[27:54]karbala made it clear that firstly we establish salaah as a means
[27:59]of communicating to allah then we say what else then people started
[28:07]asking him why have you got a problem with alcohol what's wrong
[28:11]surah two verse two nineteen listen to what the quran says quran
[28:29]says that they ask you concerning alcohol and they ask you concerning
[28:34]for example gambling or the games of chance which i'll come to
[28:37]very shortly in the forthcoming nights they ask you concerning alcohol or
[28:43]intoxicants alcohol is one of the intoxicants focus on the word yes
[28:52]it has what it is a great sin but it has some
[29:00]benefits for the people in which way that if someone does business
[29:04]and alcohol not believing the laws of islam then it has benefits
[29:08]for them brings them money their restaurants can have more money if
[29:11]they have alcohol in their restaurants for example that some people may
[29:17]find their profits increase even though it's haram but they find their
[29:20]profits increasing because what there's a manafia there's a manfaa for them
[29:24]or others for example may see a manfaa in other areas let's
[29:27]say so the quran says look we're not denying that there it's
[29:32]a sin but there is also what there's also advantages that may
[29:35]be there one may even look islamically at some of the advantages
[29:39]maybe in the world of medicine for example that a person may
[29:42]use alcohol which is not intoxicated but use it for example the
[29:46]word of medicine let's say where you are able to cure people
[29:49]with certain injuries at certain difficult moments however their sin of alcohol
[30:04]and consumption of alcohol is greater than the advantages because in islam
[30:11]what therefore is an ithem when the disadvantage outweighs the advantage because
[30:15]you know some people will come to you and say say idna
[30:17]you don't understand if i for example have a glass of wine
[30:21]every day i'm not going to become drunk i said i don't
[30:24]deny that but would you accept that there's more disadvantages in london
[30:29]because of the presence of alcohol than advantages maybe the advantages you
[30:33]might say that some people can enjoy themselves okay tick maybe you
[30:36]might say for example other disadvantages maybe but i'll say to you
[30:40]that the disadvantages outweigh the advantages rationally the quran didn't just turn
[30:44]around and say haram the quran said yes that the disadvantages of
[30:58]alcohol outweigh the advantages someone comes and say but sayyidna you know
[31:02]i heard that if you have red wine it's great for your
[31:04]heart imam asad faced this because some people came to him and
[31:09]said you know the quran says it has advantages maybe it's good
[31:11]for our heart if we drink until today you have people who
[31:14]spread this that if you have some wine for example your heart
[31:17]is at more peace even though the world health organization many times
[31:21]dismissed these things we reply anyway that when imam asadak had a
[31:25]person come to him and said mola they tell me drink alcohol
[31:28]it's going to cure you and he replied to him by saying
[31:31]never don't even touch a drop of it those who try and
[31:34]tell you that alcohol has a cure for your health do not
[31:37]listen to them khalid al abdi likewise came and said that i'm
[31:41]in pain i'm feeling unwell but let me drink alcohol it will
[31:44]cure you imam as salaf likewise said never never are we allowed
[31:49]do not listen to those who say that drinking alcohol will cure
[31:53]your pain or give you better health so your father rasulallah the
[31:58]second step people would come to him look at the beauty of
[32:00]it rasulallah never used to say that there is a taboo question
[32:04]you want to ask me about alcohol ask me you want to
[32:07]ask me about your physical relations ask me you want to ask
[32:09]me about any area ask me there's no issue yes they would
[32:14]ask him about the monthly cycle they would ask him for example
[32:18]about the soul they would ask him about every area because a
[32:23]religion that you can't ask questions in is a religion that is
[32:27]doomed to failure a person has to open up and ask eventually
[32:30]what did the quran do the quran came out with the open
[32:34]verse the open statement o you who believe in which surah surah
[32:41]al maeda verse five verse number 90 al maeda is one of
[32:45]the last surahs of the quran whenever you hear surat al ma'idah
[32:48]that's where the verse of gadir is that's where the verse of
[32:50]aliyama kmetur the verse is about the religion being completed it's one
[32:53]of the last surahs all you who believe surely what alcohol idol
[33:12]worship gambling games of chance these are filth from shaitaan so stay
[33:20]away from them if you want to be successful successful to flihun
[33:24]means what it means successful in dunya and akhirah not just in
[33:28]dunya that those who are successful in the hereafter are those who
[33:32]keep away from this someone says but sayyidna you've quoted three ayahs
[33:36]on alcohol not one of them you've mentioned cause there are some
[33:42]people if you go for example on some flights as soon as
[33:45]they leave pakistan or they leave iran or they leave saudi arabia
[33:49]straight away and finish the drink that person you'll find has sponsored
[33:54]many mosques has looked after imam bargas why they donate to these
[33:59]places in some cases to cover for the drinking and their ways
[34:02]which are the yazidi ways what do they do they give a
[34:06]lot of money to mosques because when you give money to a
[34:09]mosque your knee is not the mosque your knees have done so
[34:11]much haram this year i best give a big donation to expiate
[34:14]my sins those same people always say to you quran doesn't say
[34:18]it's haram to drink say what do you mean say when the
[34:21]quran doesn't say for example like it talks of the khansir or
[34:26]the laham of the meat of the dead person for example doesn't
[34:29]say that khamar has been made haram you quoted the ayah or
[34:37]you quoted the ayah for example about yes it's a great sin
[34:46]but it's not saying it's haram it's just a sin it's not
[34:49]exactly like it's haram it's just saying that it's a sin and
[34:52]that you should stay away from it or that it's one of
[34:55]the filth of shaitan but if allah had said it's haram i
[35:00]wouldn't drink but the fact that allah hasn't said the word haram
[35:06]means that i'm still gonna have some drink i know it's a
[35:10]sin but i'll go to hajj and we'll do that clean slate
[35:13]thing where we make an appearance at arafah and then we start
[35:16]again and start again every year and so on there are many
[35:19]muslims who've planned it beautifully i'll go to ziyara once a year
[35:23]nice car wash there i'll go to hajj once a year lovely
[35:27]car wash here because muslims have learned the trade of car washes
[35:30]they'll know now that if you wanna wash away your sins attend
[35:34]the right moments and you wash those sins away al mahdi al
[35:37]abbasi the abbasid khalifa once said the same thing to imam al
[35:41]khalifa al mahdi al abbasi comes to imam al khalifa he says
[35:45]listen in the quran where does it say it's haram to drink
[35:47]alcohol because i've read the ayahs and all of them say filth
[35:51]of shaitan or they say it's a sin but does it say
[35:53]haram where does it say imam al qadam what did he do
[35:58]he bought two ayahs of the quran together which ayah surah seven
[36:03]verse 33 and surah two verse two nineteen which we already quoted
[36:09]surah seven verse 33 we've all read the ayah say my lord
[36:21]surely has prohibited all indecencies the apparent ones the hidden ones and
[36:28]the sins notice on the wording i want everyone to look at
[36:32]the wording what did i say the other ayah said yes here
[36:48]the quran says my lord has prohibited what he has prohibited the
[36:55]indecencies public indecencies like zinah private indecencies the arabs used to sleep
[37:00]or have a relation with their stepmom those are the private ones
[37:04]and the sins therefore there is imam al qadam says when you
[37:08]bring this together and this ayah of tafseer of the quran by
[37:11]the quran you have the tafseer that the hoorum has been done
[37:15]on this particular earth you found therefore that with ahlul bates salawatallahu
[37:19]alaihihim each and every one of them was brought up in an
[37:21]environment rasulullah his mother never touched alcohol his father abdullah never touched
[37:27]alcohol imam alaihi salam his mother father never touched alcohol his father
[37:32]never touched alcohol the problem with sakifa was what sakifa meant anyone
[37:37]could become a leader saqifa meant as long as you have a
[37:41]democracy and you have an election it meant that anybody could become
[37:45]a leader the family where jibrael used to come of house of
[37:48]purity who were originally meant to guide us towards the most moral
[37:53]way now all of a sudden anyone could become a leader and
[37:57]if a person becomes a leader and at the helm he may
[38:01]for example be a decent person let's say but he may start
[38:04]employing people and giving them position from his family the moment the
[38:08]umayyads came into power you found that the umayyads slowly but surely
[38:15]the alcohol came back into the religion of islam because up until
[38:18]that point slowly imam ali alaihi salam and others were giving us
[38:21]rulings about alcohol they were telling us for example that you can't
[38:24]sit on a table where alcohol is served say for example that
[38:28]i go to a restaurant today when i go to a restaurant
[38:31]let's say i'm going to a halal restaurant that serves alcohol fiqh
[38:34]wise can i enter a halal restaurant that serves alcohol yes i
[38:39]can as long as that alcohol is not on my table but
[38:43]of course a halal wise or spirituality wise try and look for
[38:46]a place that doesn't serve alcohol because of contamination that may occur
[38:51]someone says okay sayyidina i don't go to a halal restaurant i
[38:53]go to a normal restaurant that serves alcohol again you can sit
[38:56]on a table where alcohol is not served except i think ayatollah
[39:01]muhammad al ruhani may allah has obligatory precaution on the issue of
[39:06]sitting on a table where alcohol is served because i know that
[39:08]there are many who face this dilemma that if they're working with
[39:13]colleagues and their colleagues for example all want to have a drink
[39:16]there are many muslims by the way who try their hardest to
[39:19]stay away from these things and we give them credit it's not
[39:22]easy there are some who don't care there are some who even
[39:26]drink more than the person they're finishing the deal with but you
[39:29]found that for example with many of the ulama alcohol on the
[39:33]table you sitting on the table is not allowed you have to
[39:36]excuse yourself yes someone might bring in loopholes if i sit on
[39:40]the corner but my table's not touching the table with the alcohol
[39:44]and so on you find that the imams would say that this
[39:48]is not something to be encouraged there is a curse on the
[39:51]one who sells alcohol buys alcohol sits on the same tables as
[39:54]people who are drinking alcohol so there's the prohibitions on all of
[39:59]these but sadly even with these laws it didn't stop the umayyads
[40:03]from bringing alcohol as a norman society and where did we see
[40:08]it as a norman society where was the first place when one
[40:11]of bani umayyad's men became khalifa uthman bin afan was from one
[40:16]side from the umayyads when the umayyads came into power abu sufyan
[40:21]did not need to work hard anymore abu sufyan thought that when
[40:25]muhammad had closed all the taverns of alcohol it was never gonna
[40:29]return then the ball came back into the court of bani umayyah
[40:33]and when the ball came back to the court of bani umayyah
[40:36]uthman third khalifa he comes into power suddenly bani umayyah start coming
[40:41]flocking back one by one from one side marwan ibn al hakam
[40:47]from another side walid ibn al khaba the son of abi muayyat
[40:51]from the other side marwan and his sons and yahya and others
[40:55]muawiyah slowly gets in everybody was in although muawiyah was an appointment
[41:01]of umar ibn khattab but muawiyah's position was strengthened uthman brought back
[41:06]the umayyads not only did he bring back the sons of the
[41:09]ones who are the most famous and notorious for alcohol drinking but
[41:13]what else he put them in power in power and where did
[41:17]he put them in power walid ibn akbar was the one who
[41:20]the quran revealed the surah about this fassik the quran calls him
[41:34]a fassik how does a person who the quran calls a fassik
[41:38]becomes governor of the whole of the islamic empire the quran calls
[41:43]him a fassik and i discussed him in my lectures on the
[41:45]shahad of imam al hassan the quran calls him a fasat i
[41:49]beg you i beg you how would you put someone in a
[41:53]position at the helm of the religion in an important city who's
[41:58]a known drunkard who the quran is called a fasik if anyone
[42:04]wants to know why islam spiraled out of control after rasulullah died
[42:10]is because we bought all of the old mess back into the
[42:14]seats of power the family of purity is alienated while the family
[42:19]of vice is brought back walid ibn aqbal leads salat al fajr
[42:24]when he leads salat al fajr i ask all of you salat
[42:26]al fajr how many ruqa two how drunk must you be to
[42:30]pray it for nobody prays fajr for four turuqa turns around he's
[42:36]like shall i continue who turns around in salah and talks to
[42:39]people yeah and you've got to really be off your head for
[42:43]you to turn around if that was a normal person in kufa
[42:46]okay no problem that's a normal person in kufa but when you're
[42:49]the governor of kufa uthman how would you allow this person and
[42:54]uthman would not give him the punishment what's the punishment for someone
[42:57]who is drinking alcohol in the islamic state there are lashes 80
[43:02]lashes to be given because you could end up leaving your house
[43:05]punching someone leaving your house causing a ruckus leaving your house driving
[43:10]and killing someone alcohol is not something simple it destroys lives you
[43:14]cannot just have it as something normal 80 lashes who took those
[43:18]lashes who administered them imam ali alaihis salam uthman wouldn't administer them
[43:22]imam ali was the one who stood up and said we could
[43:24]not have alcohol in the middle of society it will destroy society
[43:29]he whipped him 80 times and therefore he had made a statement
[43:34]that we cannot have the umayyads and their alcoholic ways come back
[43:38]because people will have rash decisions made what is alcohol prohibits or
[43:43]what it has an effect on covering your reasoning and when it
[43:47]covers your reasoning destruction imam ali even with his own companions the
[43:52]ones who fought with him at saffeen if he saw them drinking
[43:56]there'd be a punishment i'll give you an example najashi was a
[43:59]companion of imam ali alaihi was alongside him at saffeen shahar ramadan
[44:04]him and abu samaq are drunk together in the middle of shah
[44:08]ramadan making non stop noise in the night you see when someone
[44:11]drunk in the middle of street dancing and loud and making all
[44:14]sorts of noises najashi and abu samaq woke up all the neighbors
[44:18]they one of them had fought for imam ali al sufin imam
[44:23]ali was a man of justice whether you are related to muhawi
[44:26]or you're related to my army you've done haram you're to be
[44:30]questioned you have to be penalized and najjashi was arrested imam alaihis
[44:36]salam administered 100 lashes someone said mawla why 100 lashes he said
[44:41]80 is the norm we add 20 because it's shah ramadan and
[44:46]it has to be made as an example this person who was
[44:50]living in kufa originally from yemen his tribe came they said we
[44:53]fought with you at safeen we were your soldiers at safeen now
[44:57]you humiliate our son you take our son and you whip him
[45:02]how dare you imam alaihayalayhi sallam said surah five verse number eight
[45:06]of the quran says don't fear people when you're acting equitably don't
[45:11]fear what the people say when you're bringing justice sometimes we're scared
[45:14]when we want to say something that's been unjust someone's been unjust
[45:18]we're scared if i say that will people like me if i
[45:21]say someone's done dhulm will people like me if i say for
[45:25]example that my own family member has done something wrong will my
[45:27]family go against me imam alai said i don't care if he's
[45:30]my loyal supporter where did this person go where was the home
[45:34]for those who were drunk and wanted alcohol he left imam ali
[45:37]went to stay next to muawiyah why because he knew that if
[45:42]you wanted the path of purity you go towards ali you want
[45:45]the path of smuggling alcohol you want the path of drinking alcohol
[45:51]doctor adnan ibrahim many of you would have seen his youtube videos
[45:55]he completely annihilates muawiyah on his drunkard alcoholic ways doctor adnan ibrahim
[46:02]is not shia he annihilates muawiyah on his drunkard ways watch how
[46:09]many videos are made to defend muawiyah it's as if there's been
[46:14]a blasphemous statement made everybody no more no way how deep he's
[46:19]saying i'm sunni like you but you cannot deny whether you want
[46:24]to read the tariq for example of ibn asa akir you want
[46:28]to read the insab of baladhuri you cannot deny that muawiyah there
[46:32]was alcohol in his circle the apple doesn't fall far from the
[46:36]tree if your mom was a cannibal and your dad was a
[46:40]drunkard what's going to be produced jibrael alaihi salaam what's going to
[46:44]be produced at the end of the day what's produced is the
[46:47]nemesis a person who indulges in alcohol has no issue with the
[46:52]drink of alcohol and it became normal in that circle walid bin
[46:56]akhmah alcohol mu'awiya bin abi subyan and then that's why yazid coming
[47:03]in it was inevitable alcohol was gonna come back for which reason
[47:07]because yazid from his mom's side of the family was not a
[47:10]muslim side his mom maysoon was a christian for the christians living
[47:15]in that area alcohol was a norm i don't want to talk
[47:19]about maysoon and her affair as to how yazid was born that
[47:22]will leave for another occasion but maysoon was a christian yazid had
[47:27]one side of the family that was muslim for example in the
[47:30]face of the people the other side of the family was what
[47:33]was christian that side of the family drinking was a norm for
[47:36]them but if you're gonna take the helm of the islamic empire
[47:41]then you have to surely abide by what the helm requires as
[47:46]in why is it that sakifa for us was an issue someone
[47:48]like yazid could make it because of sakifa because as long as
[47:52]you had the right people in power those people would look after
[47:55]their friends what is the problem everyone had with yazid when mawiya
[48:00]appointed yazid subhanallah mawiya can choose his successor rasoolallah can't choose when
[48:06]mawiya appoints yazid everybody knew yazid not just drinks yazid used to
[48:12]serve alcohol to his monkey not just drinks he was a person
[48:17]where alcohol was part and parcel of his environment for me you
[48:21]have your free will you want to drink drink but don't sit
[48:24]on the seat of rasoolallah or sallallahu the seat of al muhammad
[48:29]alaihi why do think his son mawiya wanted nothing to do with
[48:33]his dad because he knew that his dad had violated the tenants
[48:37]of the religion of islam and in which way did he violate
[48:40]them there were many ways of them the way he beheaded the
[48:44]grandson of rasoolallah sallallaho alaihi wa'alehi but of them not just beheading
[48:49]he wanted to ensure that the grandson was humiliated in which way
[48:54]make sure you parade his head everywhere take his head from karbala
[48:59]place it on a spear and make sure you parade it on
[49:03]the streets of everywhere if ruqaiyah sees her father's head let her
[49:07]cry let her break down let zainab break down and don't just
[49:11]move his head everywhere poke his eyes poke his teeth make sure
[49:17]that something is felt make sure that everyone sees what i've done
[49:21]imam raza alaihi salaam one day is asked if there is a
[49:25]member of our community who drinks alcohol remember the doors of toba
[49:29]are open for all of you lovers of hussain alaihis salam but
[49:32]remember one thing a lover of imam hussain will never let yazid
[49:36]win they'll never imam or brother alaihis salam is asked by someone
[49:39]if a member of our community drinks and they want to stop
[49:42]the addiction of drinking how would you stop them listen to his
[49:46]reply he said remind them of the head of sayyid ashuhada they
[49:52]said in which way he said remind them that the head of
[49:56]imam al hussain was in a bowl in sham yazid was drinking
[50:01]alcohol and pouring it towards the head of imam al hussain surely
[50:08]whenever you look at alcohol you ask yourself that will i let
[50:13]yazid be victorious the one who poured the wine and the alcohol
[50:18]on the head of the grandson of rasulallah sallallahu alaihi wa'alehi i
[50:21]ask all muslims how is it fifty years after rasulullah dies that
[50:26]his grandson's head is in the areas of alcohol and debauchery reflect
[50:32]on it ask where did islam go which innovations came and that's
[50:36]why subhanallah how history repeats itself nabi yahya alaihi salaam was killed
[50:40]by who was killed upon the orders of the king of shyam
[50:44]imam al hussain alaihi salaam killed upon the orders of the king
[50:48]of shyam nabi yahya alaihi salaam his head was in a dish
[50:53]imam al hussain alaihi salaam his head was on a dish nabi
[50:57]yahya alaihi salaam was born from a six month pregnancy nabi yahya
[51:04]alaihi salaam no one was named yahya before him nabi yahya alaihi
[51:12]salaam his killing was avenged imam al hussain alaihi salaam's killing has
[51:19]only been partially avenged not completely eventually it will be completely avenged
[51:24]by imam sahib al aztul wazaman but you find that it was
[51:29]partially avenged avenged by who partially avenged by muqtaarith taqafi because what's
[51:35]the difference between nabi yahya and imam al hussain nabi yahya they
[51:39]took his life they didn't take his daughters lives nabi yahya they
[51:44]took his life they never paraded his daughters on streets nabi yahya
[51:48]they took his life they never slapped his sisters nabi yahya alaihi
[51:52]salaam they took his life they never made an arrow pierce the
[51:56]neck of his six month old baby and that's why when q
[52:00]taqafi he went looking for those who paraded the head of the
[52:03]grandson of rasulallah those who came and drunk alcohol do you know
[52:07]there were people who would sit and drink and drink next to
[52:10]the head of imam al hussain alaihi salaam year rasoolallah prohibits it
[52:16]another year bring it all back muhtar iqabi went looking for those
[52:22]who had seen water taken place who had paraded the head who
[52:26]would encourage people to drink alcohol next to the head of them
[52:29]haram al ibn kahil he caught him when he caught him he
[52:33]asked him what did you do on the tenth of muharram you
[52:36]are of those who paraded the head of imam al hussain what
[52:39]else did you do hanbala said to him that i shot arrows
[52:44]towards the army of hussain because you know the head when yazid
