[0:00]so the question is about the prophetic hadith the very famous report
[0:05]where the holy prophet has said whoever dies not recognizing the imam
[0:16]of his time dies a death of ignorance meaning as though he
[0:21]died in the pre islamic pagan era in the era known as
[0:25]the jahiliyah now there are two claims made here the first is
[0:32]that the hadith is not authentic and the second is that imams
[0:37]have never even said anything remotely close to that the imams would
[0:42]never say that believing in us or recognizing us is a condition
[0:47]of salvation so let's address the first part here the hadith is
[0:53]accepted by both shi'ai and sunni scholars that's important to note not
[1:00]many hadith would tick this box to be unanimously accepted to have
[1:08]consensus among all muslims as to the authenticity of the hadith so
[1:15]for example in sunni sources which are irrelevant to our discussion but
[1:22]again it's important to know that they've mentioned it and they acknowledge
[1:26]the authenticity of the hadith you've got the hadith being reported in
[1:30]sunan al bayhabi sahih muslim abu dawud sahih ibn haban muslim ahmad
[1:37]ibn hambal as well as other sources like al marjam al kabir
[1:41]and others and as i said it's important to note that while
[1:47]they've misrepresented the meaning of the hadith to be about giving an
[1:54]oath of allegiance to the caliph whoever that happens to be and
[2:00]that's created a problem for the sunni side because they've struggled to
[2:05]reconcile between the obvious religious nature of the oath and their dysfunctional
[2:11]political framework and so they've reached the point where you have to
[2:19]give an oath of allegiance whoever happens to be in charge whoever
[2:24]is sitting on that throne so that's created a problem for them
[2:28]but despite all that they don't deny the hadith itself so the
[2:31]problem is in the interpretation of the hadith not in its authenticity
[2:36]and credibility as for shia'i sources the hadith's authenticity is undeniable which
[2:43]proves beyond doubt that the claim about the report's lack of credibility
[2:49]is a blatant lie and it's a testament to his lack of
[2:54]credibility this person making this claim if you don't want to call
[2:58]him an impostor a liar a deceiver then at the very least
[3:03]he's ignorant of the most obvious truths now let's see why that
[3:08]is as i said the hadith is mentioned in shi'a sources by
[3:14]the highest authorities and the most reliable and credible sources i'll mention
[3:22]a couple of those the first is shaykh al sadduk ibn babui
[3:29]in his book he reports this version of the hadith and there
[3:37]are multiple versions by the way which only go to reinforce the
[3:41]credibility of it meaning that the hadith is mentioned by imam saddiq
[3:47]in one case and then it's mentioned by imam ruta and it's
[3:50]mentioned by imam al baqir and so you've got a multiplicity of
[3:54]chains all leading back to the holy prophet let me read the
[4:00]actual text here so meaning second na'ib of the imam muhammad ibn
[4:18]uthman ibn saeed al amri he was the second emissary to imam
[4:22]zaman an incredibly reliable individual goes without saying he said meaning uthman
[4:31]ibn sa'id the first emissary uthman ibn sa'id is saying that i
[4:40]was in the presence of imam al asghari when he was asked
[4:44]this question what was the question he was asked about this hadith
[4:54]that's been reported by his forefathers the hadith is this that the
[5:05]earth the world will not be devoid of a hoodjah a proof
[5:10]of allah a representative of allah upon the creation until the day
[5:18]of judgment the second part of the hadith is the one that
[5:27]we're discussing that whoever dies not recognizing the imam of his time
[5:32]has died a death of ignorance the imam responded this is true
[5:45]as daylight is true in other words it's as true as anything
[5:50]can be recognized as such absolutely yes this is true oh son
[6:00]of the messenger of allah who is the imam who is the
[6:06]hujjah after you he pointed to his son the imam of the
[6:18]time imam al mahdi and he said he is the hujjah and
[6:22]the imam after me he is the imam in hujjah after me
[6:28]then the imam reiterates this point so whoever dies without recognize him
[6:38]has died a death of ignorance then the imam goes on to
[6:42]say that he will go into occultation and those who are ignorant
[6:48]will be lost and perplexed and the rest of the hadith is
[6:55]irrelevant to our discussion but the point is this hadith is authentic
[7:01]and it mentions this portion that is in question that's mentioned in
[7:06]kamal ideen i mentioned it's mentioned in kefaiyat al ether it's mentioned
[7:09]in wassa al shia ll khuril amali as well as other sources
[7:15]another version of the hadith which i want to mention as well
[7:18]is reported by ibn hamza at tusi in his book right so
[7:30]let me read this actual text as well this man says that
[7:40]i performed hajj and i met imam riva while i was on
[7:45]the pilgrimage he was circumambulating around the kaaba i said to him
[7:54]may i be ransomed for you this hadith that's been attributed to
[8:08]the holy prophet is it true the prophet saying that whoever dies
[8:13]not recognizing the imam of his time has died a death of
[8:16]ignorance the imam said yes it is true my father told me
[8:29]he reported from my grandfather al hussain who reported from imam al
[8:39]hussain so just notice how this chain the imam is emphasizing and
[8:52]reiterating the fact that this hadith is authentic knowing that there is
[8:57]going to be deniers knowing that there is going to be doubters
[9:01]the imam is saying this hadith is true i heard it from
[9:04]my father who heard it from his father going all the way
[9:07]back to rasulullah who said whoever dies not knowing the imam of
[9:21]his time has died a death of ignorance this man al jorjani
[9:27]then said to the imam what does that mean to die a
[9:34]death of ignorance in case somebody tries to misrepresent the meaning of
[9:39]the hadith in case somebody comes along and says ignorance means he
[9:44]doesn't know but he's excused for not knowing the imam responded he
[9:50]dies a death of polytheism a death of disbelief however having mentioned
[10:00]these two hadith i want to mention a third one that was
[10:05]selected by al qulaydin for his al kafi this hadith i chose
[10:15]it to be showcased because the chain in this hadith is so
[10:21]clear and unambiguous right it will destroy the argument that's made by
[10:27]this guy so this is in al kafi volume number two page
[10:33]number 19 muhammad i want to mention the chain and then talk
[10:38]about it later ali this person says to imam asadak so now
[10:58]we've got a hadith from imam al hasal asghari a hadith from
[11:01]imam al riva and now a hadith from the sixth imam he
[11:05]said i told him look at how important this hadith is he
[11:12]says i told him tell me the pillars of islam the pillars
[11:25]of the religion that no one is allowed to not believe in
[11:31]them in other words these are the foundational tenets of the faith
[11:35]these are the principles of the faith that no one can be
[11:39]excused for not believing in them what are they he then elaborates
[11:52]he says the foundations that are so critical that if anyone doesn't
[11:57]believe in them their religion is corrupted their religion is invalidated and
[12:08]allah will not accept his actions without these pillars without these beliefs
[12:20]and just to emphasize this point further he says whoever knows them
[12:24]and acts upon them allah will accept his religion from him his
[12:30]religion will be accepted and allah will accept his deeds from him
[12:39]what are these pillars what are these absolute fundamentals look at what
[12:43]the imam says the testimony that there is no god other than
[12:52]allah number one and belief that muhammad is the messenger of god
[13:02]number two and recognizing and acknowledging what he brought from allah what
[13:13]the prophet brought from allah and alms in your wealth in the
[13:24]form of zakat to give in the way of allah this is
[13:27]number three and the authority the authority and the allegiance that allah
[13:46]has commanded us to have to who to al muhammad to the
[13:51]family of he said i asked the imam is there different levels
[14:06]of of allegiance the imam responded with this verse in the quran
[14:19]o you who believe obey allah and obey the messenger and those
[14:24]that have been given authority over you in surat and nisa the
[14:31]imam then he mentioned the verse from the quran and the hadith
[14:35]from the holy prophet what's this hadith whoever dies not knowing his
[14:44]imam has died a death of ignorance the imam then concluded by
[14:48]saying and the world the earth will not be except with an
[14:56]imam it will not exist except with an imam and whoever dies
[15:04]once again the imam doubles down whoever dies not knowing his imam
[15:08]has died a death of ignorance now what's interesting here is that
[15:14]the person making this claim about this hadith not being authentic suddenly
[15:19]pivots to a subject that's completely irrelevant he goes off on a
[15:26]tangent and mentions and talks about how this person was a prolific
[15:33]hadith narrator and how he was known as a liar and a
[15:38]murali and he was thrown out of the city of qum by
[15:42]ahmad ibn muhammad ibn isall ash ali and so on and so
[15:45]forth and how he invented and concocted all of these hadith this
[15:50]is a side note which has no relevance to our discussion i
[15:55]will have something to say about this inshaallah in a different question
[16:01]however as far as this hadith is concerned why do you even
[16:05]mention him because remember these hadiths that i shared with you sahilb
[16:12]niziad is not mentioned there so what's the point here why do
[16:16]you even talk about this person even though i have things to
[16:19]share about him and i am of the opinion that you can't
[16:23]so easily dismiss this individual as a liar as a fabricator right
[16:28]but we leave that for another discussion for now why even talk
[16:32]about him because you are confusing the audience you're making them think
[16:37]that this hadith of whoever dies not knowing the imam of his
[16:41]time has been narrated by sahil ibn ziyad which is not the
[16:44]case right so let's actually talk about this particular hadith which i
[16:50]mentioned has been reported in al kafi right no one who knows
[16:55]anything about rajaal and isnaud will cast any doubt on this hadith's
[17:00]authenticity why let's talk about the narrators of this hadith one by
[17:05]one the first one was muhammad ibn yahya al atar he was
[17:13]among the mashaikh of al qulani and all scholars of rajaal have
[17:21]classified him as thikr he is reliable he is trustworthy that's the
[17:26]first one muhammad ibn yahil atar the second one is ahmed ibn
[17:29]muhammad ibn isa al ashari he was a companion of imam riva
[17:36]imam il jawad and imam al hadid so three imams and not
[17:42]only that but sheikh atusi says in so he wasn't just a
[17:50]companion he was also a faqi and he was the leader of
[17:54]the qumin that's ahmad ibn muhammad ibn isa the third narrator of
[17:59]the hadith is safwan ibn yahya al bajali he was also a
[18:03]companion of imam riva and imam al jawad but it wasn't just
[18:09]that he was also one of the representatives of these two imams
[18:13]who was so close to them that imam al jawad praised him
[18:18]in a manner that is absolutely incredible imam al jawad when saffwan
[18:23]ibn yahya al bajali passed away he said in a hadith may
[18:30]allah be pleased with them meaning saffwan ibn yahya and muhammad ibn
[18:34]sinaan another of the companions of imam al jawad the imam said
[18:37]may allah be pleased with them for i am pleased with them
[18:47]for they never disobeyed me allahu akbar so the third narrator of
[18:51]this hadith is a person who's been praised by imam al jawad
[18:56]as someone who never disobeyed him we come to the fourth individual
[19:01]in this chain who is aisa ibn saree who was also given
[19:05]the kunya of abu yasak he was among the companions of imam
[19:10]asadak and scholars of rajaal also classify him as fiqh meaning reliable
[19:16]so the entire chain of this particular hadith is composed of tuqaat
[19:23]bilamunaza tuqaat reliable individuals whose reliability and whose trustworthiness is not subject
[19:33]to any kind of debate it's unanimous everybody accepts it and therein
[19:38]lies the problem with these individuals who make claims as this person
[19:45]does about this hadith not being authentic you see he slaps a
[19:51]doctor title before his name throws around some names and obviously there's
[19:58]gonna be people who fall for that deception and believe everything he
[20:01]says oh because he's a doctor because he must know what he's
[20:05]talking about right you have a degree in arabic grammar or whatever
[20:10]it may be just stick to that that's my advice to you
[20:14]the hadith says a person is hidden underneath his tongue the moment
[20:23]an illiterate person speaks they expose their ignorance they expose the fact
[20:28]that they're illiterate so be quiet for your own sake for you
[20:33]to come out and make this bold claim that this hadith does
[20:38]not have an authentic chain shows how ignorant and foolish you are
[20:45]he then goes on to say that the imams never made themselves
[20:48]a condition of salvation rather he says all they said was that
[20:53]we are preservers of the sunnah we can help explain the quran
[20:58]so basically they were preservers of hadith they were simply reporters they
[21:03]were like journalists who report a hadith from one person to another
[21:06]and they understood a little bit of arabic so they could explain
[21:09]the quran this and again know i've said this before i'll say
[21:13]it again this is not shia belief you can call yourself an
[21:18]ismaili if you want you can call yourself a sundi if you
[21:22]want you can call yourself a bahai if you want you're not
[21:25]a shia if you say this the entire shia faith is predicated
[21:32]on indisputable statements and facts things like to suggest that the imams
[21:47]of the were normal people they were scholars they were good people
[21:52]they were individuals who reported hadith they were teachers in the hausa
[21:56]right belies the entire belief system in tashayiyah so you're not a
[22:03]shia just call yourself whatever you are don't claim that you're a
[22:07]shia and then spout these false beliefs that have been imported from
[22:13]you know the sunni faith or whatever other religion that you happen
[22:18]to be influenced by and that's the problem with these people they're
[22:22]bending over backwards to impose their own neo salafi views on tashayyah
[22:28]on islam right and in doing so they'll misrepresent the quran and
[22:33]hadith and disfigure the texts beyond recognition however we've already established the
[22:39]fact that he's lying here by saying that there's no authentic chain
[22:43]for this hadith he is lying there's no question about it i
[22:47]mentioned all of the chain in one particular hadith which does the
[22:51]job right he's a liar the authenticity of this hadith and dozens
[22:56]like it cannot be questioned as we've demonstrated and all of this
[23:01]highlights the central position of the ahlul bayt alongside the quran right
[23:07]this is beyond question and that alone is enough to discredit these
[23:12]impostors and their entire agenda without the need to probe their other
[23:17]extremist views and deviant beliefs what's worse and i'll just mention this
[23:22]last point is that when he's asked which qualified scholars follow the
[23:27]approach that he's advocating for he mentions a few obscure names individuals
[23:33]who are either on the extreme fringe or completely unknown within the
[23:37]houses circles and a couple who have been completely discredited and debunked
[23:42]for their heretical and deviant views and beliefs all of which shows
[23:48]that you're either dealing with someone who's completely ignorant or lacks the
[23:53]most basic qualifications to address these issues and certainly cannot take up
[23:59]any position of religious guidance or teaching of any kind
