[0:10][Music] [Music] Billman for [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] is [Music] [Music] ahed
[1:57][Music] very good job salam alaikum everyone uh we have some poetry
[2:37]reading by Sister isra gazi let's welcome her after muham muham muham
[2:53]muham patience is a virtue it sounds just as sweet but she
[3:07]is breathing patience and in her heart there is no defeat the
[3:12]very light of the heavens was adorned when patience herself was born
[3:16]from the flower of Eternal Purity who cried heavy tears at her
[3:21]daughter's afflictions for verily she would face tragedy after tragedy but like
[3:25]a pillar of Faith she stands grounded unshakable willing to demand Justice
[3:30]from her oppressors from every oppressor do we follow the ways of
[3:34]her would the crown of patience be proud of those who serve
[3:39]do we care for the orphans she carried do we pray for
[3:45]the martyrs she buried is carala just a name and do we
[3:47]shout in vain do we stand with the heroes of today do
[3:52]we allow oppressive regimes to remain as we stand in silence patience
[3:57]is not silent patience does not heed paat stood firm in the
[4:01]court of yazid praying yaah Allah please let the people know and
[4:07]let the record show that beauty was all I saw as my
[4:09]family was slain upon the hot Plains of carala they were rushed
[4:15]towards their graves with such honor and this is the lofty status
[4:18]of a martyr to shake the very core of an unjust Reign
[4:24]to create spaces in remembrance of her brother Hussein May every breath
[4:28]be a Magus and every home a Hussein to breath the life
[4:30]ofd the grandson of muham for patience was born and patience never
[4:43]died and because of patience our hearts remain alive with Hussein patience
[4:49]veiled by her sun and her Moon the very mountains were created
[4:53]for us to look to and remember patience Muhammad Muhammad muh muhamad
[5:16]after the day of as they asked Z about the calamities and
[5:23]what they had to endure and she replied saying I saw nothing

[11:21]Muhammad his holy progeny the pure The Good the immaculate I wish
[11:27]each and every one of you my brother brothers and sisters and
[11:30]my dearest scholar say Salah a real sincere condolences and Salam as
[11:42]we pass through these 10 days of as I have the honor
[12:01]of having my mother with us today here at Mecca and I
[12:06]will tell you that she is not only a blessing and our
[12:07]family but she will be a blessing to Mecca as well and
[12:12]I know that she's so very dear to Sayad and UHA andala
[12:18]kazini family they consider her their mother as well and so we
[12:22]honor and we pay our respect to her today as she visits
[12:29]with us inshallah she will be a Bara tonight for everyone's generosity
[12:37]so let us begin the Journey of zanab I want us to
[12:44]all you know we we we've come through these 10 days and
[12:49]for those of you who may not know as much about muharam
[12:51]I don't want to overp speak because many of you know the
[12:57]story so very well but for those who may be new to
[12:59]the concept of Ashura just to bring us all in alignment that
[13:05]while January is the first of the solar calendar muharam is the
[13:11]first of the hijri calendar it's the first month of the Islamic
[13:17]calendar and while the Gregorian calendar goes by the sun we go
[13:22]by the moon and so I just find it somehow almost odd
[13:29]that I'm January December 31st the world is shouting and screaming and
[13:34]celebrating and the world is lit up while for Muslims the first
[13:43]month of muharam is tragic and full of tears and full of
[13:47]sorrow and full of heartfelt grief that comes from a place that
[13:55]we don't experience any other grief like this in our lives the
[13:58]grief is so very deep it's so very much a part of
[14:03]our souls and for those of you who may be a little
[14:04]unfamiliar and even if you're online listening we welcome you to the
[14:08]word ashur its root comes from the number 10 meaning that it
[14:15]is the 10th day of the month of muharam and the 10th
[14:17]day is the day of the actual tragedy but not to take
[14:23]away from the journey from the first day that Imam Hussein leaves
[14:27]Medina since since you've been listening to the malalas for the past
[14:33]10 nights today is the 11th night and since you have been
[14:36]listening and crying I wanted to shine a little bit more light
[14:42]on the life of Lady Zab so I want you for a
[14:48]few moments to just kind of reflect and let's look back let's
[14:51]look at the life of this Noble say DEA let's talk about
[15:00]her birth I want you to seriously enter with me a moment
[15:05]in time over 1,400 and 65 years ago it's a long time
[15:12]ago yet she's so relevant as we stand her and honor her
[15:16]tonight and I want you to enter a scene of her birth
[15:21]enter it in your minds and enter it in your heart and
[15:24]enter it with your soul and as you enter this moment of
[15:32]her birth I want you to imagine the most glorified faat zahar
[15:37]her mother the daughter of Prophet Muhammad in those days the fathers
[15:45]did not enter the rooms when the mothers delivered their babies so
[15:49]sayada zanab is born and she's then handed over to her father
[15:56]Imam Ali Imam aliam takes this beautiful baby zanab not yet named
[16:04]and imagine this moment that we all have on our lives when
[16:10]we're parents and that baby comes to you and I will cry
[16:12]a lot through this I can't help it and and I'm I
[16:16]know you will too but it's okay they deserve our tears in
[16:22]that moment when the mother gives over the child to the father
[16:25]and lady fatimat says to IM Ali her her husband what should
[16:33]we name her and Imam Ali says I will not precede the
[16:39]messenger of God enter Prophet Muhammad Imam Ali had already read the
[16:53]Adan in her right ear and the aama in her left ear
[16:59]so this baby that is with Imam Ali hears the voice of
[17:01]the commander of the faithful first aan in her ear what a
[17:08]lucky baby she is to be held by him to have him
[17:13]as her father and Fatima as her mother and the prophet comes
[17:16]of course Imam Ali is giving this precious baby their first baby
[17:22]girl over to Prophet Muhammad he takes baby zanab and he holds
[17:30]her close to his chest and as he holds her she is
[17:36]able to hear his heartbeat because he holds her and he coddles
[17:42]her like this to his chest and we know babies can hear
[17:47]they can hear the heartbeat of their mother Allah has made the
[17:50]Perfect Design he's placed her mother's arms in a certain place to
[17:53]cuddle a baby and hold her so Prophet Muhammad is holding baby
[17:59]Zab and and he begins to tear and he begins to cry
[18:02]and Fatima is looking on wondering why is her father crying imagine
[18:11]that baby zab's ear is on the heart of the prophet of
[18:18]God the last and final messenger of God the heart that beats
[18:24]with Revelation that has been imbued in it the holiest heart and
[18:30]all of human humanity is what she's listening to imagine imagine that
[18:35]she's listening to the heart of divine revelation and the direct words
[18:39]of God inscribed on the heart of her grandfather imagine then that
[18:50]Imam Ali says to Prophet Muhammad Salam then what will be her
[18:56]name and Prophet Muhammad responds and says I will not speak I
[19:04]will not preedee my Lord and he waits Archangel J Gabriel alisam
[19:13]Jabra descends down and he joins them in the room and the
[19:18]prophet is still tearing and crying and he's holding this beautiful baby
[19:23]and jabrail the Archangel Gabriel gives his salams and his congratulations and
[19:31]he says that Allah most high says her name will be zanab
[19:45]profound the word the name zanab the feminine of zann it wasn't
[19:53]a new name in the Arabian Desert there were zabs before zanab
[19:57]but none of whom were named by God zanab when you break
[20:03]down the root word of the name in English it doesn't know
[20:09]Justice you can't find the right English word for it but let's
[20:13]just find a metaphor like the apple of her father's eye the
[20:18]the decoration of her father because Zan is to decorate to to
[20:26]Zan to decorate to make something beautiful and E his father zanab
[20:31]comes together as the daughter of Ali and throughout her life she
[20:40]will also be known as the one who was the daughter of
[20:42]Ali often referred to by her father for her eloquence for her
[20:46]dedication for her steadfastness and we'll talk a little bit more about
[20:50]that but then Fatima enters again and asks her father oh Father
[20:57]why is it that You Weep as you hold Zena and he
[21:02]reveals to Fatima to zah imagine that you have a newborn mother's
[21:09]just imagine fathers with new babies and the prophet reveals that he
[21:14]has received the prophecy of what will happen to zab's life and
[21:18]he cries for her and he cries with them knowing that her
[21:26]life would have to endure tragedies beyond belief Bel some of the
[21:32]most horrific human tragedies ever to fall Upon Our Humanity let's fast
[21:40]forward and let's move now to not just her strength but how
[21:50]she attained her strength her lineage let's talk and think for a
[21:54]moment as you think about her grandfather you think about who her
[21:58]grand grand father is we often refer to Prophet Muhammad the prophet
[22:06]of God the messenger of God but what we sometimes fail to
[22:11]realize it's not just the messenger of God it is the Seal
[22:19]of prophethood for all of humanity and we know this it's proven
[22:23]because there's not been another Prophet to follow him nor has there
[22:28]been another Revelation that has come after him so Muhammad is not
[22:38]just Muhammad Muhammad is Adam and Noah he is Moses and he
[22:42]is Jesus and he is Muhammad and he is everything in between
[22:48]he is the culmination and the ultimate chosen for the Seal of
[22:56]prophethood he is loving he is merciful he is the embodiment of
[23:02]God's word in the Holy Quran and she's raised by him what
[23:11]should we expect from zanaa let's look to her grandmother Khadijah we
[23:18]often forget Khadijah we don't speak enough about her yet without her
[23:23]greatness Islam would not be what Islam is a woman by some
[23:31]projections 15 years the senior of prophet Muhammad Khadijah stands as one
[23:38]of the most noble figures in human history and in all of
[23:43]Womanhood kadesia stands in her nobility in her generosity in her trust
[23:52]in her first to receive when he receives Revelation the first to
[24:00]believe in him unequivocally Khadijah her DNA runs through zab's veins through
[24:13]her arteries through faat zah let's turn to Fatima the mother of
[24:18]zanab Fatima is Fatima and there is no description other than Fatima
[24:27]is Fatima as the book says about her the prophet of God
[24:35]himself the Seal of nabua says that she is the Lady of
[24:38]all of the worlds of paradise and Paradise faat Zahra holds not
[24:48]just on Earth but in heaven the most esteemed position what would
[24:56]we expect from zanab if her mother is Fatima what do we
[25:03]expect of zanab when Hassan Imam Hassan is her brother when Imam
[25:09]Hussein is her brother and you know they were birthed in Medina
[25:14]we should not forget these three [Music] children some estimates say one
[25:23]to five years after went to Medina regardless of that time Medina
[25:33]became the first Islamic State ever created and so we're talking about
[25:46]the founding family of Islam the founding family of Medina we're talking
[25:53]about a family who is couched in Divine guidance so what do
[26:01]we expect from zanab when her older brothers are Hassan and Hussein
[26:05]and what do we know of them that they are shab that
[26:11]they are the Youth of paradise the only two people to get
[26:18]that title and what of her father what of her father for
[26:26]a moment when the wall of the cabba the sanctuary of God
[26:30]on Earth opens for his mother in his holy birth to be
[26:37]there inside the ca no other human being has that status none
[26:41]whatsoever and as those of you returned from Hajj saw and witness
[26:46]and those of you who've gone to Hajj that crack in the
[26:48]wall remains as a testimony to Imam Ali's greatness no matter how
[26:55]much they try to seal it it continues to not be something
[26:58]that that comes together perfectly because it stands as a witness the
[27:02]ca is witnessing for Imam Ali his greatness so this is F
[27:11]this is zab's family so what should we expect from zanab now
[27:16]it's easy to say well she had all of the fixings of
[27:23]a Divine family that raised her to be a soldier for Islam
[27:30]this is true but she still had a free will the the
[27:35]prophet Muhammad prophets before him they're human beings they're not superum they're
[27:41]human and this is something we must remember they still have to
[27:49]develop their spiritual quotient they still have choices to make during the
[27:55]treat of hudia one of the lessons that I love so much
[27:59]much in leadership is this when Prophet Muhammad went to sign that
[28:04]treaty so that there could be peace between the meccans and Medina
[28:09]he did not use his name messenger of God and Imam Ali
[28:15]did not want him to sign this treaty without using that title
[28:20]Prophet Muhammad said sign it without my title that's a choice the
[28:28]prophet made to bring peace peace to the region my point is
[28:30]somehow we have it in our heads that all their decisions are
[28:36]made for them that is not true they have to make hard
[28:41]choices they have to choose between right and wrong and evil and
[28:47]good kadala is not just a war a political war while it
[28:55]was political in its nature the umya dynasty was a war against
[29:07]the prophet's family between Pure Evil and pure good and had it
[29:12]not been for the war between evil and good we would not
[29:18]be standing here commemorating this that's true of many wars that happen
[29:25]but this one is unique what what makes kabala unique as we've
[29:31]examined over the past 10 days is that it is the story
[29:39]unlike any other story in our human history and this is true
[29:44]I agree there have been massacres of millions but the massacre of
[29:54]a holy prophet's family that has women and and children that has
[30:02]components of family and marriage and siblings and so on and so
[30:10]forth that in and of itself is unique to karbala I will
[30:16]take a moment to say that I do believe inshallah and I
[30:20]think you share me in this belief that that battle for evil
[30:25]and good this is the battle in Gazza and I do believe
[30:31]with all of my heart that goodness will always win goodness must
[30:35]always Prevail on Earth so back to our beautiful zanab let's fast
[30:45]forward to when she's a little bit older when we think about
[30:51]zanib we think about her in kabala but we don't understand that
[30:55]zanab was a scholar zanab re received her teachings from her brothers
[31:00]from her father from her grandfather she was a scholar of the
[31:05]highest level of Scholars she was a teacher she held classes for
[31:12]women she was inspirational she taught Islamic law all of this zanab
[31:22]did the women of prophet Muhammad's family fa zah Z they didn't
[31:25]just sit idle and wait for their father and their brother others
[31:28]to do all of the work they participated and you should too
[31:33]you should participate in your communities you should bring the knowledge that
[31:39]you have forward knowledge does not belong to men only Allah created
[31:44]our brains to have equal functions and sometimes in our human development
[31:51]you even have an edge say DEA in carala as hard as
[32:02]it was and as difficult as the scenes are we say she
[32:10]stood Valiant she did but let me ask you a question serious
[32:15]question and take yourselves to those moments and to that horrific scene
[32:21]the scene of a mother losing her two boys an and Muhammad
[32:29]were her children can you imagine a mother Zab the mother having
[32:35]had to lose her two boys teenagers she loses her nephews she
[32:43]loses the husbands of the widows that she has to care for
[32:49]she loses her brother Al Abbas who for that family standed stood
[32:57]as the staunch defender of the family she loses her brother Hussein
[33:03]as we all know but not that that isn't enough she then
[33:11]as we know is taken into captivity sometimes I think to myself
[33:17]what what can be worse what she saw and had to endure
[33:25]or moving from whatever sense of Freedom she had and the women
[33:32]and the children had and the protection they had in Medina to
[33:37]being in captivity to be in captivity we're talking about chains we're
[33:45]talking about the prophet's family his women who had to be paraded
[33:51]from carala to kufa and why to kufa to to poke Imam
[33:59]Ali in the eye which they will never do and to parade
[34:05]the heads of the martyrs and the family to try their very
[34:11]best with her propaganda to kill the message not just of Hussein
[34:15]to Kill The Message of Islam to put an end to it
[34:20]because it's a battle between good and evil and power versus piety
[34:24]power and piety collided in karbala so when we think of zanab
[34:32]and we think of her in captivity and we think of her
[34:37]and the women of karbala and the children mounted on these unsaddled
[34:43]animals you know how brutal that is how much pain that is
[34:47]how much suffering that is the grief alone do you know when
[34:53]we lose somebody what happens in our brains I teach grief I
[34:57]have a special to an end of life do you know that
[35:01]the very first thing your brain does is it acts like a
[35:04]shock absorber and it denies it goes through denial no that couldn't
[35:08]have happened no no way no way even when you know it's
[35:14]coming at the moment of death and you're seeing your loved one
[35:17]take their last breath your brain denies it it's it's a gift
[35:24]God has given us so that we can cope with what's ahead
[35:30]of us can you imagine that they had no time to deny
[35:34]anything no time for grief and I would say not even time
[35:43]for anger the natural phases of grief they have stages of grief
[35:47]they didn't even have that because they were in survival mode but
[35:55]as they're taken into captivity and they lose their hijabs in order
[36:02]to make them feel that they've lost their honor they stripped them
[36:07]of their hijabs and they parade them through the streets and the
[36:10]propaganda machine which lasted 90 years propagated that these were the enemies
[36:18]these were the enemies of Islam let me ask you a question
[36:24]if you saw a parade like that with women and children in
[36:27]chain paraded through your city's streets would you really think that they
[36:33]were the enemies or would your mind start to wonder who did
[36:38]this to these people and who are these people do you know
[36:43]that the people of kufa did not even know that this was
[36:45]the prophet's family this is how disgraceful the propaganda machine is and
[36:53]in many ways continues to be this day no doubt do you
[36:56]know that on the day of ashur 80% of the Muslim umah
[37:02]is celebrating they're having a holiday do you know that do you
[37:05]know why because again the big hoax is that Moses parted the
[37:14]sea and the Jews went to Salvation and Pharaoh was drowned so
[37:18]it's a day of fasting and celebration while the other 20% us
[37:25]we are crying we are grieving we are grieving so so deeply
[37:30]that we can hardly breathe and we are renewing our commitment to
[37:35]Justice 20% renewing the commitment to justice so when I say the
[37:44]propaganda is still here it's still here I dare say I dare
[37:52]say that to be a follower of a b is a privilege
[37:59]if you're born into it and you accept it because you're born
[38:04]into it go back and do your homework you should earn it
[38:10]you should study you should understand why you are a follower of
[38:15]that it's logical that it makes sense that history tells a certain
[38:19]story and that it is obvious Imam Ali was the rightful Khalifa
[38:25]obvious that he was the successor of prophet Muhammad but you have
[38:29]to dig don't just take this and swallow this as sweet tasting
[38:33]medicine that doesn't make you a true follower of Al B brothers
[38:40]and sisters the commitment to B to social justice to what they
[38:42]stand for to what they sacrificed that sense of nobility to be
[38:49]that follower of a b this is something very very very special
[38:57]and it's a gift that's been given to you learn it study
[39:00]it dig deep into it and be revived by it it is
[39:06]a compass for how we live our lives it's our moral compass
[39:11]it's what gives us courage but let's follow say zanab from kufa
[39:19]to the Sham to Damascus now you might wonder like why was
[39:26]she in Damascus because the umya dynasty after the death of Imam
[39:31]Ali muaah came to power as you know when he established the
[39:35]Sham Damascus as his headquarters and for 90 years the headquarters of
[39:41]the Muslim umah was there in Sham in Syria so as she's
[39:47]paraded and they're paraded into this Palace of yazid and you all
[39:56]know the story you all know what she did and what she
[39:58]said but I want to reflect for a moment and the most
[40:05]profound statement that keeps ringing in the ears of everyone and happens
[40:09]to be on the shirts here in Mecca that I saw no
[40:12]Beauty yazid thought and she schooled them this is why Z she's
[40:20]one of my Shero she schooled yazid so badly I tell you
[40:26]we should all be in that moment when the when lady Zab
[40:31]the daughter of Ali and Fatima and granddaughter of prophet Muhammad Salam
[40:36]stood in the face of evil the very face of evil stands
[40:44]Purity and she looks the evil in the face and she says
[40:47]and I'm paraphrasing because the the speech is long you should look
[40:50]it up you should read it if you're not familiar with it
[40:54]do you think these chains do you think to chain us is
[40:59]is going to dishonor us you've Dishonored yourself and she goes at
[41:06]him and at him and the public is listening and the public
[41:09]wakes up because they're like in a stuper because everybody drank the
[41:13]Kool-Aid they drank the propaganda and they understand who zanab is and
[41:18]they realized what yazid did that was the beginning of the end
[41:25]that was the beginning of the end although the dynasty continued on
[41:32]for years after that that really was that was the beginning of
[41:37]the end you know metaphorically let me just say this it's true
[41:42]in Wartime back then they did heinous things beheading and the tragedies
[41:47]of Imam Hussein and when we hear these stories we cry so
[41:52]that the depth of the grief is something that's not normal it's
[41:57]not understood in in in words it comes from a place someplace
[42:03]else I don't know where it comes from but in many ways
[42:09]metaphorically she beheaded him because she hid him where it hurts the
[42:18]most because what she did was she declared his lo How Low
[42:25]he is of a human being she brought him so far down
[42:33]that he could not even get up get up again she tko'ed
[42:37]him as we say in a way that slammed him without Revival
[42:44]he might have been breathing but he was a breathing dead person
[42:50]after Zena this is the truth she heads back to Medina now
[42:55]remember IM Z is the IM and I'll have to conclude because
[43:01]we're out of time we have to go to Salah but I
[43:02]just want to finish by saying this she had to protect IM
[43:08]Zid IM Z abidin could not speak because they would kill him
[43:14]so her very role to defend him to defend Islam she's still
[43:21]carrying it she's still carrying through with it she's the trustee of
[43:25]her mother and delivers the kiss on the neck and the chat
[43:27]she's the trustee of her father she's the trustee of her grandfather
[43:35]she is the trustee of Allah's message on Earth this is zanaa
[43:39]but she was so powerful in Her speech and in her teachings
[43:45]and in teaching what happened the eyewitness zanab and the women and
[43:51]the children the witnesses she built a counter propaganda but this propaganda
[43:57]was sacred because it was the truth and because she did that
[44:03]and because her words had power because she had the eloquence of
[44:07]her father because she has the grace of her mother and because
[44:10]she has the stature of her grandfather Zena is summoned back to
[44:17]the Shem do you ever wonder why you go visit her in
[44:20]the Shem have you ever thought about how she got back there
[44:25]do you know that zab's death is a mystery we don't really
[44:30]know how she died some say she died one year later some
[44:34]say she died a couple years later we don't really know but
[44:38]what we do know allahar truly God is the best of planners
[44:45]because he planted zab's grave in Damascus where the Palace of the
[44:52]umid is located and millions upon Millions upon Millions of people visit
[44:58]zanab every single year do you think anyone's visiting MAA and yazid
[45:05]and the Palace of the umad I don't think so in fact
[45:08]you won't believe what happens in those places it's not very attractive
[45:16]so in conclusion whether it's a male or female brother or sister
[45:22]I often say and I mean this from the bottom of my
[45:27]heart we should aspire to walk like zanb we should aspire to
[45:30]speak like zanb we should aspire to work like zanb we should
[45:33]take care of the orphans and the widows like zanab she built
[45:38]the institution for the widows and the orphans we should do what
[45:43]she did and we should speak out when things are wrong and
[45:47]we should hold steadfast to all that is good and we we
[45:54]should reject all that is evil in our everyday lives in every
[45:57]minute of every day of our lives and we should bless this
[46:05]Earth and bless each other with nothing but goodness we should quiet
[46:10]our tongues and put our hands and feet to work this is
[46:12]what zanab wants when we cry for them it's because it comes
[46:19]from a place of love but when we serve them it means
[46:21]that their message will continue on to Eternity I believe in this
[46:27]I wish to thank thank you sayalah for having me it's been
[46:31]a while since I've spoken I want to appreciate everyone that's helping
[46:35]Mecca this is a longtime dream and I think that the time
[46:42]is right we have the right scholar we have a beautiful Community
[46:45]here I love the diversity of this community young families it's kind
[46:51]of like building Medina but we're called Mecca and I'm going to
[46:55]ask you I'm going to make an appeal give as much as
[47:01]you can to help this project get off the ground it's amazing
[47:04]and it's a miracle in and of itself that the land has
[47:08]already been purchased and paid for what's left is going to be
[47:13]easy but don't miss the opportunity to help however you can help
[47:16]whatever it may be put your hands in it and build a
[47:19]community and let's keep these magalas moving in a way that is
[47:26]positive and healthy and inshallah next year or the year after we
[47:32]will be in the new place and we'll be having the malal
[47:36]of IM Hussein and and so much more I thank you for
[47:43]your time I know it's Salah time thank you so very much
[47:45]for the opportunity to speak with you and forgive me for anything
