[14:24][Music] [Music] bman [Music] in [Music] in [Music] in [Music] in [Music]
[16:59]muhamed muhamad [Music] m peace be upon Hussein upon Ali son of
[18:06]Hussein upon the children of Hussein and upon the companions of Hussein
[18:11]allum my dear brothers and sisters we would like to send our
[18:19]sincerest condolences to the IM of our time on the marum of
[18:29]his grandfather abdah Hussein our respected scholar and dear families we welcome
[18:36]you all to the sixth night of mdah Hussein in the spirit
[18:42]of seeking knowledge and understanding especially in these nights let us reflect
[18:48]on the words of IM Al the gateway to knowledge it is
[18:57]narrated on in a lengthy Hadith that heam said oh seeker of
[19:00]knowledge knowledge has many merits if you imagine it to be a
[19:08]human being then its head is humbleness its eye is freedom from
[19:11]Envy its ear is understanding its tongue is truthfulness its memory is
[19:20]research its heart is good intention its intellect is the knowledge of
[19:26]things and matters its hand is comp passion and its f is
[19:33]visiting the Learned these profound words remind us of the virtues that
[19:37]should be Adorn a true seeker of knowledge let us Embrace these
[19:41]qualities as We Gather to honor the legacy of M husin and
[19:47]please help me welcome for tonight's lecture with aluh muham I will
[20:29]the Bel alhamd [Music] last night we began with a story of
[21:10]neb and we began that story and we made our way through
[21:15]the story almost until the very end I wanted to begin tonight
[21:24]with the question of why is it important for me and you
[21:28]to even discuss this issue because to be honest with you it
[21:32]can be a little bit of an uncomfortable discussion and I think
[21:38]one of the natural reactions that we have as a religious community
[21:42]when we see these kinds of things in our society is our
[21:46]initial reaction is that we want to hide away from it we
[21:51]want to pretend like it doesn't exist that it's not going to
[21:56]have any effect within our own communities within our own own families
[22:00]but one of the things that we've seen is that whatever is
[22:06]happening in the Greater Community of the country that you live in
[22:10]gradually those ideas those Concepts they begin to seep into every aspect
[22:17]of the society that we live in even those that are within
[22:24]the religious communities we've gathered on these nights to commemorate the sacrifice
[22:30]of Imam Hussein and in reality if you think to yourself one
[22:35]of the reasons why we commemorate is because we are trying to
[22:38]prepare ourselves for the coming of [Music] IM this is the essence
[22:47]This Is Why We Gather this is why we mourn this is
[22:51]why we cry we are looking at the mistakes that the people
[22:53]of the past had made the mistakes which prevented them from connecting
[22:58]with their and we are trying to prevent those same mistakes from
[23:03]happening to us this issue is one of the issues that if
[23:07]we are not wary if we are not careful it can become
[23:11]one of the means of disconnection from the Imam of our time
[23:16]now last night we began with this story of and we went
[23:23]into how the people of Sodom they had been a good group
[23:28]of people initially and one of the things that the people of
[23:31]Sodom were known for was their great generosity to those in need
[23:38]if you were poor if you were poverty stricken if you were
[23:41]a traveler in need of food in need of a place to
[23:45]stay then you knew that if you went into the cities of
[23:48]Sodom they would have food for you they would have lodging for
[23:52]you they would take care of you at one point Allah subhanahu
[23:55]wa ta'ala he decides I'm going to test the people of Sodom
[24:01]with a little bit of reducing their risk I want to see
[24:07]if this generosity that they have will they at least maintain or
[24:10]as soon as I reduce their risk they're going to change for
[24:16]the worst and unfortunately through the tricks of Shayan they begin to
[24:19]turn away The Travelers they begin to turn away the poor the
[24:22]poor and The Travelers begin to take from their produce that was
[24:28]growing in their farms and on their trees and eventually Shayan comes
[24:33]with the idea that the way in which you can push these
[24:35]people away and make sure no one will ever steal from you
[24:40]is that whenever they come you will attack them you will assault
[24:43]them and so through this methodology eventually the sin spreads within the
[24:49]society and it becomes part and parcel of who they are and
[24:56]it changes even the behavior that they had the ways of dress
[24:58]that they had even to the point that their eating habits change
[25:04]they become very gluttonous that from morning to night they are eating
[25:09]they can't stop eating when it comes to their clothing they begin
[25:14]to dress in immodest ways and so every aspect of their behavior
[25:19]changes after many many years he is preaching to them he is
[25:25]trying to get them to change he eventually comes to the realization
[25:29]that it's not working now one of the practices that had and
[25:35]we see this with many of the but it was particularly important
[25:38]with neb is that whenever Travelers would come from outside of the
[25:45]city you know during that time period it wasn't as if they
[25:48]had Google maps of course many people who were Travelers they knew
[25:53]not to come into the city of Sodom you know today if
[25:56]you were traveling and there was the city of Sodom on your
[25:59]path it would probably have a warning on Google Maps do not
[26:01]enter danger at that time period they didn't have the blessings of
[26:08]Google Maps and so sometimes some Travelers they wouldn't hear about the
[26:13]situation in the city the dangers of the city and so they
[26:18]would accidentally cross paths and they would enter into the town one
[26:21]of the practices of nebil is that whenever he would see these
[26:24]Travelers in order to protect them he would say that I am
[26:30]welcoming you as my guests I'm going to host you and so
[26:33]during that period of time what it meant is that they were
[26:38]under the protection of Nabil Lut even today if you look at
[26:41]tribal areas in the world you look at the pons of Afghanistan
[26:46]you look at other tribal areas one of the codes that they
[26:49]have is that if a guest comes and they are staying at
[26:54]the home of one of the tribal members then they are under
[26:58]the protection of that individual and it's very dishonorable if anyone attacks
[27:04]them steals from them hurts them in any way it's actually a
[27:07]type of Dishonor not only for that individual but for the entirety
[27:09]of the tribe and so as a way of protecting these Travelers
[27:14]na Lut he would quickly invite them to their to his home
[27:18]and they would be protected from the attacks of the people of
[27:23]Sodom now as you can imagine the people of Sodom they didn't
[27:26]like this and so they would get upset at nebil lot they
[27:29]would argue with him they would say oh lot you shouldn't do
[27:31]this this is the last time we're going to accept it from
[27:35]you but every single time neb L would do this and this
[27:38]was becoming a point of contention between the people of lot and
[27:43]himself eventually nebil Lut he looks around he realizes that it's been
[27:50]over 30 years of preaching amongst these people I've spoken to them
[27:55]privately I've spoken to them publicly I've used emotion I've used logic
[27:59]I've used every methodology to convince them that this sin that they
[28:03]are engaged in is one of the greatest of sins but it
[28:07]seems that instead of getting better they are getting worse and so
[28:13]he raises his hands in Dua he says yaah Allah I have
[28:19]done everything I can I've done everything that I can I don't
[28:22]know what else to do it seems like they're even getting worse
[28:25]he says yaah Allah you do something about this situ situation I
[28:29]really don't have anything else that I can think of and so
[28:34]Allah subhana wa tala he decides that the time for the punishment
[28:37]of the people of Sodom has arrived what does Allah do he
[28:42]sends down four of his Mal his angels but whenever Allah sends
[28:49]down Mal one of the things that we notice is that he
[28:51]sends them down in the form of human beings if you were
[28:55]to see them maybe you wouldn't realize that these are angels you
[28:58]would see them other human beings and so he sends them down
[29:03]in the form of Travelers who have come into the city of
[29:06]Sodom they enter upon the city in a place where on the
[29:13]outskirts of that City he was there they come to him they
[29:15]say that we are Travelers we want to be your guest o
[29:19]loot would you please be so kindest to host US Nail he
[29:26]looks at them he says this is probably not the best idea
[29:30]I think you should continue to go you know this city is
[29:35]not very hospitable to guests they insist they say that really we
[29:39]insist can we please be your guests again he tells them please
[29:43]you really don't want to stay here this is not a good
[29:45]group of people again the Mal they insist eventually he sees there's
[29:53]no choice he says let me bring you in but I'm going
[29:55]to bring you in through a back way so no one realizes
[29:59]that you are here he quickly brings them into the town through
[30:01]the paths which were not that busy so that no one sees
[30:06]he brings them into his house he closes the gate to his
[30:08]house he enters into the house and he sees that his wife
[30:14]is looking at the guests now's wife she had originally been from
[30:20]those who believed in his message but as time had gone on
[30:25]she had begun to revert back to her people and so one
[30:30]of the things that was known for unfortunately is that whenever Nabil
[30:33]would bring these guests into his house she would use certain signals
[30:41]to tell the people of Sodom that guests have come into the
[30:45]town guests are now in the house of lam when Lam he
[30:50]sees the wife has noticed she's there he says please I beg
[30:53]of you I know that you've betrayed me many times before but
[30:59]this one time please don't tell the people that we have guests
[31:02]if you do this I'm going to forgive all of your past
[31:06]mistakes all of the things that you've done against me I'll forget
[31:08]all of it but please this one time do not dishonor me
[31:12]in front of these guests now in the midst of all of
[31:18]this he doesn't realize that these are angels these are Mal she
[31:22]promises and immediately she goes and she announces to the people that
[31:26]he has guests people they begin to gather around the gate they're
[31:31]arguing with L we want to come in give us over the
[31:36]guests Nabil Lut is arguing back he's saying that this is dishonorable
[31:39]do not embarrass me in front of these guests and they're arguing
[31:42]back na he doesn't know what to do at this point at
[31:50]one point he comes forward he introduces himself he says oh lot
[31:53]we are actually the Mal of your lord we are actually from
[31:56]the angels of your lord do not have any fear they tell
[32:01]lot go and open the gates he goes forward he opens the
[32:10]gates the people rush in JB he stands in front of this
[32:13]horde this mob of people and he raises his hands and he
[32:17]simply makes a motion with his fingers as soon as he makes
[32:23]the motion all of those people they suddenly become blind they're not
[32:27]able to see and in their fear in their confusion they rush
[32:30]outside of the gate outside of the home but before they leave
[32:35]and this is something which amazes me before they leave they yell
[32:38]out that we will be back by morning time now I don't
[32:43]know about you but if I was in a situation where individual
[32:45]raises their hands they go like this I can't see anymore the
[32:51]last thing on my mind is going to be I'll get you
[32:53]in the morning but these people were so influenced by sin they
[32:58]were so intoxic ated by sin that even though they're now blind
[33:01]they can't even see what's going on their only thought is that
[33:05]we're going to come back in the morning time we're going to
[33:09]get these people the Mal they tell that the time of the
[33:12]punishment has come you need to evacuate the city he makes preparations
[33:18]he gathers his things he and his two daughters they begin to
[33:20]make their way outside of the city as they are nearing the
[33:25]outer limits of the city they begin to feel a Tremor in
[33:28]the ground and they realize that the punishment of Allah has begun
[33:32]and as they continue the punishment engulfs the people of sodam we
[33:36]have a Hadith brothers and sisters it is one of the most
[33:41]severe punishments that when you look at all of the differents who
[33:44]were punished by Allah this is one of the most severe punishments
[33:47]that I have seen that Allah subhanahu wa taala he does several
[33:51]things but the main way that the people of Sodom were destroyed
[33:56]is that the entirety of the city was U rooted it was
[33:58]lifted up into the heavens and then it was thrown into the
[34:02]ocean it was thrown into the sea now Alam his two daughters
[34:08]they make their way back to the city of Al the city
[34:13]where ibim is still propagating Islam and here just by way I
[34:17]want to mention something that the two daughters ofam they marry and
[34:25]from their lineage comes many other an and the reason I mentioned
[34:28]this is that when you compare the religions of Islam and Christianity
[34:33]there's a very big difference in how the daughters of Nabil lot
[34:37]are seen in Islam they are seen as chaste and honorable women
[34:42]in the religion of Christianity when you look at the Bible there
[34:46]is a different version there is something else that is mentioned about
[34:49]them so there is this major difference between the religion of Islam
[34:53]when it treats the Ania the prophets of God and the Bible
[34:58]now here this is the end of the story of Nabil I
[35:03]wanted to open up the second section for tonight the second section
[35:07]for tonight is that I wanted to go through a number of
[35:12]very important issues in regards to this story meaning that when we
[35:15]were reading this story a number of questions may have come to
[35:18]your minds and when we are living in this Society a number
[35:24]of criticisms are going to be asked of you in regards to
[35:26]this issue of homosexual uality so tonight I want to in go
[35:33]through these one at a time we want to tackle these and
[35:35]we want to answer these question number one issue number one today
[35:40]when you look at this group of people this community one of
[35:46]the ways in which they will introduce themselves is that when someone
[35:52]introduces themselves they say that we are for example homosexuals now what's
[35:59]interesting is that when you look at them you can ask the
[36:05]question that why do you identify yourself first and foremost as this
[36:09]because as human beings we are many things someone can say that
[36:16]I am a software engineer I spend 10 or 12 hours of
[36:19]my day programming and then when I come home I go to
[36:23]the gym I'm a bodybuilder I lift weights and then at night
[36:28]maybe I'm also a chef I can cook really well I have
[36:30]this talent for cooking I have all of these different talents and
[36:35]skills why is it that when it comes to this issue people
[36:41]use this as the primary marker of who they are as a
[36:47]human being what's amazing is that when you go back 150 years
[36:51]ago the word homosexuality didn't even exist in the English language I
[36:55]think many of us we assume that this word was something that
[36:58]has always existed it never existed before 1869 when it was first
[37:06]created now you might be wondering but didn't people commit this Sin
[37:09]from a long time ago yes they would commit the sin but
[37:11]they would never make it the primary identifier and marker of their
[37:17]identity as a human being now it's very clever when you look
[37:20]at this because if you can make it the primary method or
[37:26]marker of Who You Are what it means is that you can't
[37:30]change you can't change it's part and parcel of who you are
[37:36]in fact it is the most important part of who I am
[37:40]even though it might be just a small sliver of who you
[37:43]are as a human being when we look at in how he
[37:48]speaks to his people he says something very interesting in the Quran
[37:51]which shows that it is not an identity rather it is simply
[37:57]an action what does NE say in the verse of the Holy
[37:59]Quran the people of L they [Music] say when the people of
[38:11]loot they became tired of all of his preaching and he's telling
[38:14]him that this is a grave sin and they should stop they
[38:18]became tired they said oh loot if you don't stop with this
[38:21]we are going to Exile you am in response what does he
[38:31]say he says he says truly I abore your actions if you
[38:42]go before 50 years ago 60 years ago people committed this sin
[38:49]but they saw it as a simple action they never saw it
[38:52]as the primary identity marker of who they are as human beings
[38:55]and so we have to be very careful that if if anyone
[38:59]is struggling with these kinds of inclinations it's very important that they
[39:04]don't fall into the Trap of thinking that it is the primary
[39:10]identity marker of who we are it's simply an inclination it's simply
[39:13]an action which someone can perform this was issue number one issue
[39:20]number two when we look at the response of loot to their
[39:22]Prophet it reminds us of the response that we get sometimes to
[39:29]today when we want to say that this culture and this action
[39:32]of homosexuality it's a sin it's amazing sometimes thousands of years go
[39:38]by and the response and the behavior of human beings Remains the
[39:42]Same in that verse of the Holy Quran when they see that
[39:52]nebil Lut is preaching and he's saying that this is a sinful
[39:55]action they don't respond in IR rational way they don't argue with
[40:01]Nabil that it's actually a good action what they simply say is
[40:08]that o loot if you continue what you are doing then we
[40:11]will Exile you now today in the modern day world we have
[40:16]a different term that is used what do they say they say
[40:19]that if you continue speaking out against this we will cancel you
[40:26]and today cancellation what it means is is that you may lose
[40:29]your job for being outspoken you may lose your social media accounts
[40:33]for being outspoken in essence you are being exiled within the Society
[40:37]of course like in the past they would kick you out of
[40:41]the Town entirely today they say you can stay but you won't
[40:45]be able to find work your reputation will be shot maybe even
[40:48]if there's articles about you you won't even be able to rent
[40:50]a home when people they look into your name and so what
[40:54]we find is that the issue of cancellation is something that is
[40:58]thousands of years old now what's interesting as well in another verse
[41:04]of the Holy Quran is that it wasn't that didn't recognize the
[41:09]sin and the evil of what they were doing they recognized it
[41:12]when we look at one of the verses of the Quran that
[41:17]the answer of his people was that they said we will Exile
[41:23]you and then their criticism of NAB lot was that they are
[41:26]a people who want to keep pure and there's such a beautiful
[41:33]point in this verse of the Holy Quran because they saw NAB
[41:35]as someone who wanted to keep pure but they saw that as
[41:40]something that was disgusting one of the things that Islam teaches us
[41:44]is that if someone engages in enough sin and it always begins
[41:52]very small if someone engages in enough sin gradually those sins will
[41:57]increase and increase and increase until the scale in our minds of
[42:00]what is good and what is evil it actually flips meaning that
[42:05]we begin to see good as evil and evil as good and
[42:11]the reason for this is that Allah is a Creator he has
[42:13]created us in a way where we justify any action that we
[42:18]are doing so even if you capture a thief imagine that a
[42:24]thief comes to your house and the thief is caught red-handed stealing
[42:27]something in your house you will never find a criminal or at
[42:31]least it's very rare to find a criminal who says that what
[42:35]I am doing is wrong criminals they justify they say that I
[42:40]am stealing because X Y and Z these people are rich I'm
[42:43]poor these people probably stole from others they deserve it we justify
[42:47]every single action that we perform and so this is one of
[42:52]the danger points that when we go into sin eventually the scale
[42:55]flips and we begin to see good as evil and evil as
[43:01]good point number three when you look at the sin of neb
[43:05]Lot's wife was she practicing the sin of homosexuality the answer is
[43:15]no never then why was she destroyed amongst her people there's an
[43:21]interesting point here that if we were to bring it into the
[43:23]modern day era if we were to bring into the year 2024
[43:30]what she would be called is an ally she didn't engage in
[43:37]the Sin but what did she engage in she supported the commission
[43:41]of the sin of her people there's a Hadith by every time
[43:49]I see this Hadith it shakes me the Hadith from ammin it
[43:52]says that whoever is pleased by the actions of a group of
[43:56]people imagine that you see a group of people they are committing
[44:01]a sin and you are pleased within your heart with what they
[44:04]are doing he says that whoever is pleased by the actions of
[44:12]a group of people is like an individual that has committed that
[44:16]sin or has committed that action alongside them isn't that frightening that
[44:23]if in your heart you have support you like that some people
[44:29]are committing a sin is saying that on the day of judgment
[44:32]when people are resurrected you will find that you have been resurrected
[44:35]with that group of people and just imagine on the day of
[44:40]judgment people are going to say Ya Allah but I wasn't from
[44:42]this group of Sinners whatever that sin may be I wasn't from
[44:46]that group of Sinners Allah will answer back to them that but
[44:49]you were supporting that sin in your heart you know sometimes we
[44:56]see people doing something that is islamically not allowed and then we
[45:00]see Muslims they are supporting the sinful action of that person one
[45:04]thing that I've noticed is that sometimes sisters after 10 years 20
[45:09]years 30 years they decide to take off the hijab and in
[45:15]that sensitive moment many times they'll even post on social media that
[45:19]we've taken off the hijab you see that people are and often
[45:27]times supporting they are praising we don't think to ourselves that that
[45:29]praise and that support were helping that person to get further along
[45:36]on that path now of course there's never any room for harshness
[45:39]or being rude or anything like that but at the very least
[45:42]we should not be supportive when we see someone moving away from
[45:47]the path of Islam so here the sin ofab was what is
[45:50]known today as allyship this was number three number four and this
[45:59]is a very sensitive issue should there be Compassion or hatred towards
[46:07]someone who is a homosexual and so we live in a society
[46:12]where it's very openly being practiced and you see that there is
[46:17]a call for supporting of the lifestyle for being tolerant of the
[46:21]lifestyle and so it puts us in this position that as Believers
[46:25]should we have Compassion or should we have a level of hatred
[46:32]in our hearts here I want to take us to the words
[46:34]of Na IIM Alam let us begin there and then we'll continue
[46:41]this journey when we look at IIM at that moment when the
[46:43]Mal they come on their way to going to the people of
[46:49]they first stop at the home of NAB ibraim they stop at
[46:55]the home of Na ibraim and one of the things that they
[46:58]tell him is that we are actually on route to destroying the
[47:03]people of lot the people of Sodom it's amazing when we look
[47:09]at the Quran the first reaction of niim instead of him saying
[47:14]that good destroy them instead of saying that it's been long enough
[47:18]you know where have you been he does something else he turns
[47:21]towards Allah in Dua the Quran it mentions that ibraim he says
[47:35]begins to plead with Allah he begins to ask Allah Ya Allah
[47:40]give more time to the people of Sodom y Allah forgive the
[47:44]people of Sodom Ya Allah give another opportunity to the people of
[47:47]Sodom so here what we're seeing from the prophets of God is
[47:51]that they have a compassion for Sinners yes they recognize the sin
[47:56]but there is a level of compassion they don't want to see
[47:59]anyone destroyed they don't want to see anyone walking on the path
[48:01]of sin ibraim he turns towards Allah pleads for a little bit
[48:08]more time maybe the people of Sodom will change at the same
[48:12]time we have to be very careful that while there should be
[48:15]compassion for people on an individual level if you have someone in
[48:21]the community that is struggling they're struggling with this issue you know
[48:24]sometimes as a religious community if you see someone who is struggling
[48:29]with this problem we reject them we turn against them we're harsh
[48:32]against them this is against the religion of Islam we should be
[48:35]supportive of them I remember there is a brother in the UK
[48:40]who he struggled with this issue and he said that when I
[48:43]was struggling with this issue I didn't know where to turn and
[48:47]he actually ends up creating his own organization by the name of
[48:51]strong support so it helps people that are in the Muslim Community
[48:53]that are struggling with this issue but he says when I was
[48:55]growing up I didn't know where the ter if you go towards
[49:00]the Sheikh and the community he's going to look at you you
[49:02]know with this horrible look he's going to be afraid of you
[49:06]maybe he's even going to mention to others if you tell others
[49:08]Elders in the community maybe your reputation will be ruined they'll behave
[49:13]with you in a very strange way they don't know where to
[49:16]turn and so this issue of compassion is very important at the
[49:20]same time when you look at the words of and all of
[49:24]the prophets these are different parts of the same conversation very clearly
[49:29]he says to his people that I abhor your actions I'm not
[49:35]going to pretend as if I am happy with what you're doing
[49:39]that I support what you're doing I'm not going to pretend as
[49:41]if I'm an ally of the community no we stand against this
[49:45]we believe this is one of the greatest of sins and so
[49:48]here when you see in a society where people are openly practicing
[49:52]sins and they are calling upon you to support them in that
[49:58]sin to be allies of them it's very important that we have
[50:00]a line that if someone is struggling you have compassion you help
[50:03]them to the greatest degree possible but if you see others that
[50:08]openly are promoting the lifestyle they are trying to spread the lifestyle
[50:12]then this is a completely different issue this leads us to the
[50:23]next issue was the sin of how they were forcing and attacking
[50:28]and assaulting people or was it the fact that they were practicing
[50:33]the sin because we were going over the story of one of
[50:38]the things that we mentioned is that it began by attacking Travelers
[50:42]that's how it began and so one of the criticisms that people
[50:46]will mention against the religion of Islam they say that Islam is
[50:54]not against homosexuality what is Islam against it is against against assaulting
[50:59]people attacking people and so this is a very common point now
[51:02]whenever you have something like this what do we do we turn
[51:05]towards the verses of the Quran because the Quran is very clear
[51:12]what the primary sin of was when we look at the verses
[51:14]of the Quran Allah subhanahu wa taala in one of the verses
[51:19]and this verse always gets me because it's as if even Allah
[51:23]is surprised Allah in this verse of the Quran he says Allah
[51:30]is saying that of all of the creatures in the world are
[51:35]you really approaching the males you say you say this when you're
[51:41]surprised at something you're shocked at [Music] something then the following verse
[51:54]it says and you leave what your lord has created as your
[51:56]mates you are truly a people transgressing all bounds Allah is making
[52:02]it very clear that the primary issue that was happening in Sodom
[52:08]yes the sin began as assault but then it spread amongst the
[52:12]people and became a common practice amongst them what Allah is punishing
[52:16]them for of course that is even a greater sin but what
[52:21]he is punishing them for primarily is the sin of homosexuality it's
[52:26]very clear here another verse of the Holy Quran and L when
[52:32]he said to his people do you commit immorality while you can
[52:35]clearly see how evil it is lot is asking this question from
[52:41]his people and then he says do you really approach men instead
[52:49]of women truly you are a people that are utterly ignorant so
[52:56]from these verses it's very clear that the sin of the people
[53:02]of lot it wasn't the issue of what they mention it was
[53:05]simply the sin of homosexuality you know sometimes you have a group
[53:10]of people that are for example thieves their sin is thievery and
[53:14]amongst them you're also going to have people that maybe murder in
[53:17]the commission of thievery and their sin is for example that others
[53:21]maybe they assault in the commission of thievery but what is the
[53:24]main sin that they are engaged in the main sin is the
[53:29]issue of stealing and so it is the same with the people
[53:34]of Sodom and so this is a very common one if you
[53:35]ever see this remember that the Quran has answered this very clearly
[53:40]the sixth issue and inshallah we will conclude it with this issue
[53:47]rather we have two more issues actually we'll push it a little
[53:54]bit further tonight I had a complaint that the sessions are not
[53:57]long enough I feel like the sessions are too long but I
[53:59]think there's a sweet spot the sixth issue is the very controversial
[54:06]question that whenb Lam he had those people behind the gate and
[54:11]they're trying to get inside of the gate the Quran mentions the
[54:16]story that Nabil lud he offers or at least it appears that
[54:20]he offers his daughters to the people that were trying to get
[54:25]into his house what is the verse the verse is and his
[54:30]people came rushing towards him and they had been long in the
[54:33]habit of practicing Abominations he said oh my people here are my
[54:39]daughters they are pure for you now fear Allah and then the
[54:46]verse continues question is throwing his daughters under the bus to protect
[54:51]his guests some people maybe they look at this verse they say
[54:54]how horrible this prophet of God he's trying to protect the guests
[54:58]by offering these Daughters of his he's saying marry them the answer
[55:03]is that people that are into this sin are they even interested
[55:07]in the daughters ofb they're not interested so whatam is essentially telling
[55:13]them is that you need to reform yourselves it's a metaphor that
[55:17]reform yourselves oh people move away from this sin women are purer
[55:21]for you than this action that you are performing and so it's
[55:27]very simple as answer the Nabil Lut no prophet of God no
[55:29]decent human being forget about prophets of God would ever offer his
[55:34]own children as a way of protecting someone that is coming from
[55:37]outside his guests the final issue is the question of whether it
[55:44]is possible for someone to have such an inclination and still remain
[55:53]a Muslim as I mentioned earlier sometimes there are people in our
[55:56]communities that are suffering from these issues they have certain inclinations and
[56:01]they feel very alone it's a very lonely place to be especially
[56:05]when you have sessions when we speak about the sin of the
[56:09]people of Sodom it can be very difficult when it comes to
[56:12]a person that has an inclination like this when you are struggling
[56:19]against this kind of inclination not only can you remain a Muslim
[56:22]in fact the Islam of a person who has this and is
[56:28]fighting against this is perhaps even stronger than one who doesn't because
[56:31]they're struggling they're fighting they're saying that Ya Allah for your sake
[56:36]I'm going to remain on the path that you have taught to
[56:38]me and so this person is even more beloved to Allah and
[56:43]this by the way applies to anyone that is struggling with any
[56:46]of the sins that the one who is struggling with the sins
[56:52]he's beloved to Allah and we should never think that because someone
[56:55]maybe has this inclination Allah hates them Allah is punishing them we
[56:59]shouldn't think any of these things the second question some people they
[57:06]argue that these inclinations are natural now we might ask that when
[57:12]you say natural what does that mean they say well some people
[57:18]they argue that from childhood certain people they had an inclination like
[57:23]this and of course others are going to argue against that going
[57:27]to say that that is not the case let's assume for a
[57:31]moment that that is the case there's no problem here let's assume
[57:35]that someone from a very young age they may have this kind
[57:41]of inclination does that mean that it is okay for them to
[57:46]act upon it here I'm going to mention something and hopefully we
[57:50]can open this up there are many inclinations natural as well as
[57:54]what we would consider to be unnatural that may exist within us
[58:00]but Allah subhana wa taala he says that even though you may
[58:03]have had this from a young age or maybe it came about
[58:07]later you still cannot do it let's give a few examples example
[58:11]number one imagine that you have an individual who wants to get
[58:17]married they have the inclination they want to get married but maybe
[58:21]they have an issue that they are dealing with let's say that
[58:24]they are for example disabled and and for them in that particular
[58:28]situation it is extremely difficult to get married maybe nobody is has
[58:34]been found who is willing to marry them now this individual there
[58:39]is a natural inclination there's a natural desire is it okay in
[58:44]this situation to go towards sin the answer is that Allah he
[58:47]says no it may be a natural inclination but Allah he says
[58:53]that you are supposed to hold yourself back this D is not
[58:56]a Dun where we should expect that everything that we want is
[58:59]going to be fulfilled there are things that we are going to
[59:03]want that is not going to happen this is dun of tests
[59:08]and trials another example imagine that someone has a state of poverty
[59:15]he has the inclination that he wants to have a little bit
[59:19]of money he wants to live a normal life just like all
[59:20]of these people that are living normal lives I want to also
[59:23]live a normal life but because of societal issues there's poverty in
[59:29]that Society is it allowed for him to go and steal from
[59:32]others in order to fulfill his needs again the answer here is
[59:38]no it's a natural desire to feel that you have a little
[59:43]bit of money to meet your basic needs but here Allah says
[59:47]I need you to be patient go through the doors of Halal
[59:50]never go through the doors of Haram so here we have another
[59:52]example example number three is it not a natural inclination for a
[59:59]woman and this is something that sometimes is controversial we don't talk
[60:03]about it it is natural for many women to feel that if
[60:10]they could not wear the hijab then people would for example look
[60:14]at them admire them X Y and Z there's a natural inclination
[60:20]amongst every human being to be seen to be looked at we
[60:25]have the right as human beings it's a natural inclination it's a
[60:29]natural desire here because it is a natural desire is that something
[60:35]where we should say okay the hijab should be taken off and
[60:38]that should be fulfilled the answer again is No so we have
[60:41]many other desires even Beyond this issue that we're discussing tonight where
[60:45]there is a natural inclination there's a natural desire but Allah subhana
[60:49]wa ta'ala he says that look if you want to be successful
[60:56]in this D you need to go down this path these things
[60:58]that Islam has taught us they are things which will take us
[61:02]to a path of Happiness they will avoid the harms and the
[61:05]damages of this dun and the next dun and so Allah he
[61:09]asks us to be patient and to continue to move through the
[61:13]sh inshallah I hope that these were questions that maybe some of
[61:19]you you had and insh we answer some of those questions if
[61:25]there's anything beyond this we do have that portal that is online
[61:28]if you want to ask any of these questions through that it's
[61:30]Anonymous insh we can tackle those on some of the coming nights
[61:36]inshallah I wanted to just mention one of the questions that had
[61:39]come up that goes beyond this topic and that was the question
[61:42]of whether the people of kufa they were Shia who ultimately killed
[61:49]Imam husin it's a very important question because sometimes other schools of
[61:55]thought they criticize the Shia they say that you Shia you mourn
[62:01]over abdah Hussein while it was you the people of kufa who
[62:07]ended up killing your Imam so it doesn't make sense on one
[62:09]hand you killed your Imam and now you sit and You Weep
[62:13]over him I just wanted to answer this very briefly inshallah that
[62:15]when we look at the history of kufa kfans they were known
[62:20]for being amongst many different groups we had amongst them those that
[62:25]supported the the are the supporters of Abu Bakr and Omar we
[62:31]had amongst them those who supported we had amongst them who supported
[62:36]the OMS we had amongst them who were from the they basically
[62:43]hated everyone and we had amongst them those that were devout ideological
[62:50]Shia meaning that they had a belief in the IM of the
[62:53]and then there were also individuals and this was was actually a
[63:00]sizable group who they were not considered to be ideologically Shia but
[63:04]they were considered to be politically Shia it's a very important distinction
[63:08]because Within These two groups there was one that believed yes this
[63:11]is an IM that has been chosen by Allah the other group
[63:15]they said no no no we don't accept Imam Hussein for example
[63:18]or Imam Ali as a divinely appointed IM but we recognize that
[63:24]this is from the family of we recognize that they have more
[63:27]merits than other people we have love for them but just religiously
[63:31]ideologically we don't believe that they are supposed to be appointed by
[63:38]God and so we had all of these different groups within the
[63:42]city of kufa and majority of them when they were weighing who
[63:48]do we support they began to send letters to Imam Hussein so
[63:51]this idea that kufa at that time was a purely City this
[63:56]is not a correct idea you had all of these different groups
[64:01]and of course you had the issue of tribalism where it was
[64:03]very easy to play One Tribe against another tribe and so the
[64:09]OMS were able to use these differences between these groups and they
[64:13]were able to influence them to withdraw their support for the Imam
[64:17]we raise our hands in Dua may Allah subhah wa ta'ala protect
[64:20]us may he accept the tears that we shed on this night
[64:25]the mning that we engage in and may He allow us to
[64:31]be from the closest followers of theam thank you say Ali for
[65:09]the thought provoking lecture just a couple of announcements before we begin

[70:33]salvation of this [Music] um May the peace of Allah be upon
[70:44]you abdah and upon your Noble companions who remained with you [Music]
[71:00]in a strange you were [Music] inal let's let im husin here
[71:19]a stranger you [Music] thirsty you inal Mar you fell inala husin
[71:46]and his Salam to the companions of Imam hin Al IM says
[71:53]peace be upon you best of Companions and Victors peace be upon
[72:02]you for what you endured and thus now reside in a lofty
[72:08]place in love they were the asab of the IM the ones
[72:17]who chose to stay with him until their last breath in love
[72:22]they were companions full of pride in love they were as they
[72:35]stayed near his side and love they were when they replied we
[72:52]will never leave your side H shall we burn shall we die
[73:12]shall we be ripped apart under the [Music] sky from your Camp
[73:25]will never thir depart for your love is that our hearts [Music]
[73:53]H before we continue if the brothers can fix the echo IM
[74:04]Hussein when he embarked on his journey he [Music] said whomever is
[74:23]willing to spare his life for us and his heart was settled
[74:27]upon meeting Allah let him leave with us for I am leaving
[74:34]in the morning in these words the Imam explains the heftiness of
[74:41]the sacrifice in the type of Faith that's needed to be ready
[74:44]for one to be able to go with him to carala and
[74:49]so the vast majority of the Muslims and the umah around the
[74:55]Imam failed and and only those with the purest hearts and strongest
[74:59]of Faith were able to stay on his path and earn the
[75:02]honor of martyrdom by his side and he also said indeed I
[75:10]do not know of any companions more loyal or better than my
[75:14]companions brothers and sisters lend me your hearts and travel with me
[75:20]toala and let's imagine the scene for 9 days Imam Hussein his
[75:28]family and Companions and their families had been besieged by an army
[75:34]of thousands in a scorching Barren desert and for the past two
[75:38]days they had now been without water and on the night before
[75:46]the 10th of muharam the cover of the night had fallen and
[75:50]in several short hours at the break of dawn the battle of
[75:57]ashur will ensue on one side the large army of yazid is
[76:01]rejoicing feasting and sharpening their swords to kill the grandson of rasool
[76:08]but on the other is a much smaller camp with women and
[76:15]children and within that camp you can hear their Serene voices and
[76:19]murmurs and the voice of Imam Hussein and those with him Emer
[76:25]Ed in prayer and supplication and with their prayers we hear the
[76:31]T of the Mal who until today mourn the death of Imam
[76:37]Hussein in the heart of that night Imam Hussein calls his companions
[76:44]and they surround him then he turns he puts out all of
[76:50]the lanterns and darkness covers the setting and the Imam says Darkness
[76:57]has fallen imagine how heavy this must have been for the Imam
[77:04]the scene the threat the danger yet he calls them and he
[77:13]says yeahi Darkness has fallen so flee under its cover from these
[77:18]for these enemies only want me and once they kill me they
[77:25]will not chase after you I'm setting you free of your commitment
[77:27]to me I will not hold it against you on the day
[77:32]of judgment they replied with teary eyes Master husse by Allah we
[77:38]will never leave your side what excuse can we give your grandfather
[77:42]on the day of judgment if we leave you now life without
[77:56]about you Hussein is meaningless Imam Hussein said if you do not
[78:02]leave indeed you will all be killed tomorrow and none will be
[78:08]spared they said to him we would be grateful for that honor
[78:14]one of the companions named abdah saidd by Allah shall shall I
[78:27]be killed then burned then my ashes thrown in the wind and
[78:31]shall this be done to me 70 times I will never leave
[78:39]your side another companion his name is B he says Allah has
[78:46]bestowed us with the blessing of fighting in your defense until our
[78:52]limbs are torn for then your grandfather will intercede for us on
[78:57]the day of judgment then Allah I wish that I would be
[79:14]killed then brought back to life then killed until I am killed
[79:18]a thousand times and with that I would have spared you and
[79:21]your family from being killed then Muslim tells himd how can we
[79:32]abandon you how can we leave you what excuse do we give
[79:38]Allah if we do not stand with you w I will not
[79:43]leave you until I dig my spear in the enemy's chest and
[79:45]I strike them with my sword so long as I can carry
[79:50]it and if I do not keep a weapon in my hand
[79:55]and I will Hur stones at them until I die along your
[80:00]side brothers and sisters some opinions say that night IM Hussein was
[80:08]feeling abandoned and forsaken by this umah that betrayed him and his
[80:13]grandfather but our Imam is full of mercy and kind he wanted
[80:19]to save his companions from the massacre this is why he gave
[80:22]them a final CH chance to leave under the cover of night
[80:26]and leave him alone in carala but when they refus to leave
[80:35]his side it brought comfort and happiness to his heart and when
[80:40]he saw this determination from them he told them to look towards
[80:47]the sky and there they saw the lofy gardens and their place
[80:52]in heaven which they will reside in the fading night were 70
[81:04]night surrounding Hussein to his PL Habib and Z Muslim and [Music]
[81:23]John son wab names never gone he di the Flames he said
[81:39]to them go flee in the night spare your W they said
[81:49]with tears de beloved Hussein we feel no fear we're not afraid
[82:00]of pain as long as we live our life will give to
[82:10]Shield your name to Shield your name shall we be kill shall
[82:22]we be made what good is the world if you're not alive
[82:34]light this flame with your love we Thrive he then stood proud
[82:47]feeling faith and reveal to his cross their lofy [Music] place a
[83:03]narration says that Imam Hussein afterwards sat with say Z and she
[83:10]asked him brother Hussein did you test the resolve of your companions
[83:15]I worry that they might abandon you when they see the blood
[83:19]shed and the clash of the swords he said by Allah I
[83:27]spoke to them and only found in them bravery and resilience they
[83:33]find comfort and Martyr them with me the way an infant finds
[83:38]comfort in his mother's Embrace another narration says that night after these
[83:49]events happened Imam Hussein went walking between the hills at night and
[83:55]and one of the companions na he saw the IM and he
[84:00]was worried that the Imam is walking alone so he begins to
[84:03]follow him IM Hussein hears him eventually he turns around he says
[84:09]yeah is that you he says I fear for you master AB
[84:17]abdah being alone and far away from us in this night then
[84:19]the IM says I came to see these Hills and if the
[84:25]enemies use them to Ambush the to Ambush the tents tomorrow then
[84:30]he comes over to he grabs his arm and he says to
[84:39]him why don't you ride now between these two hills and spare
[84:47]yourself from Death replies he says master abdah my sword is worth
[84:58]a thousand swords and he begins to cry he says I swear
[85:04]by Allah who's honored me with you that I will not leave
[85:08]your side until I die fighting for you right fromal fle [Music]
[85:25]now hide in this land leave mein i' rather be killed I'd
[85:46]rather tomorrow my blood is spilled than to leave you inala [Music]
