Acts that invalidate the fast: Applying liquid enema or liquid injection - Qazwini

An enema administration is a technique used to stimulate stool evacuation. It is a liquid treatment most commonly used to relieve severe constipation. In today’s age, it’s no longer a common treatment. In Islamic law, there are actually conflicting hadiths on this issue. Hence we have to take these hadiths and reconcile them. There are three categories of hadiths in relation to this: 1. It’s permissible 2. It’s prohibited 3. “If the enema being used is liquid, it invalidates the fast. If it’s solid, it doesn’t invalidate the fast.” The third hadith solves the contradiction. Hence the fatwa of scholars follow the third category. If a fasting person is required to apply liquid enema due to medical reason, then it’s not haram but his fast will be broken and he will need to make up that fast.
