[0:00]i am more in wealth and in sons and followers than you
[0:05]are he went into his garden and he stayed alive unfair up
[0:11]to his soul he said i do not think that this garden
[0:16]will ever wither away and you and i do not think that
[0:21]the hour of judgment will ever come even if i am brought
[0:25]back to my lord i shall surely find there something better in
[0:31]exchange than this what i have his companions said to him to
[0:36]my lord i said his companions said to him during the argument
[0:40]with him do you reject him who created you from dust off
[1:24]the grounds that you'll never be able to find it so his
[1:27]crew and joy were surrounded by ruins and he remained twisted turning
[1:32]his hands over what he spent for his property property which was
[1:36]not falling to pieces thank you thank you hassan for that wonderful
[2:32]recitation a couple days ago i told you that someone had contacted
[2:36]me purely on their own to see how they could help and

[5:08]hanging out in the prayer hall for some q and a some
[5:11]questions so feel free to stop by there and talk to him
[5:16]last night you guys did it and i heard it was rather
[5:19]successful and there's about ten twelve people there so you can ask
[5:22]any kind of questions and you can go from there so it's
[5:25]open to everybody and finally there's a sister who donated the refreshments
[5:33]upfront over the past few days we would like to read surat
[5:37]al fatiha on behalf of the deceased of her mother and father
[5:41]let's go ahead and do that in al fatiha brother vizembezi if
[5:55]you give me three minutes i just have a personal story that
[5:58]i want to share with everybody and then we'll open up the
[6:01]floor the past couple of years you know i take my children
[6:10]to preschool in the mornings you know going back and forth and
[6:15]including my morning routine including working out and you know i go
[6:20]and work out at the ymca everybody's here at the ymca right
[6:24]as a matter of fact it's the one at the jewish community
[6:27]center the one on sylvania you know as part of my routine
[6:31]i go and work out there and then before that i would
[6:34]drop off my kids at tia you know everybody knows that's the
[6:37]local assignment center in alexis road the tia and you know these
[6:42]are all different moral compasses right these are all different faiths across
[6:46]the city that you know have religious affiliations and they follow their
[6:52]their patterns and and whatever they need and and all this driving
[6:56]i do in the morning i i just think to myself you
[6:58]know in the morning i wake up i walk into the ymca
[7:02]i see the cross i see the star of david you know
[7:07]i drop my my kids off at a at a different denomination
[7:10]of our muslim faith and i have no problem with that you
[7:13]know i'm partaking in community centers around the city and that's fine
[7:18]i mean we all do that i think we all have places
[7:20]we go that are different religions and so one of the reasons
[7:24]i got involved with this center was because i said to ourselves
[7:28]well what about our what about our path our path the etiquette
[7:32]and the the the the path of godhead of righteousness it's one
[7:36]that's second to none and when i knew that this organization was
[7:41]forming i said why why should i not partake in it and
[7:45]help and develop it and it was added to the family of
[7:49]faiths and religions i mean we're not saying we're better than anybody
[7:53]and we're not saying we're worse than anybody we just wanna partake
[7:56]and share now you might be asking yourself right now well there's
[8:00]already two ahlu bay centers in town well you can just go
[8:04]there well my answer to that is why not why can't we
[8:08]have a third or a fourth so there's no reason that we
[8:16]can't have a third or a fourth with different products as we
[8:20]describe it we have developing youth that meet different needs i know
[8:25]for example my parents' generation we're not worried about them they're fine
[8:31]but my kids' generation these young boys sitting here in front that's
[8:35]who we're worried about if we're not worried about that i would
[8:37]have never gotten involved in something like this if i didn't have
[8:40]my kids i guarantee it so i'm one of you i just
[8:44]wanted to share that story with you inshallah you know this place
[8:49]will develop to have many activities for our youth camps after school
[8:53]activities study sessions interactions with churches and synagogues and temples that's what
[9:00]we want here and inshallah we're gonna have that we're gonna sit
[9:03]at the table of faiths around the city of toledo so i
[9:14]would like to go ahead and introduce our english speaker who's been
[9:17]joining us for the past four or five nights now thank you
[9:20]so much for your drive here to toledo and being away from
[9:24]your family so without delaying this any further please help me in
[9:32]inviting brother wissam bezzi to the podium for more of his gracious
[9:36]words and the story of karbala the verse states that say o
[11:05]you who believe do not actually before that all you who believe
[11:11]enter the religion of islam wholly and completely this is such a
[11:19]cruel this is such an important verse why because the next directly
[11:26]after that it says this footsteps and it says do not follow
[11:35]the shaykh khan in his footsteps why is this so important just
[11:40]the word footsteps this is gonna complete the journey of what we've
[11:46]been talking about and how this is gonna line up one by
[11:51]one by one by one we've been talking about principles and the
[11:55]way we set our principles into our own identity and we become
[11:59]these qualities so states and talks about these these footsteps and he
[12:10]says these footsteps signify and state that there's a path that the
[12:18]believer is walking there's a path because if there are footsteps it
[12:24]means walking a path and if you stray off the path one
[12:30]way or another these are the sets of shaitan he puts barriers
[12:35]in your path so do not follow him in that way so
[12:41]now if we examine and we go further this is what starts
[12:47]happening to us if you look and if you look at the
[12:50]first step that a person takes it's the most significant step we've
[12:57]been talking about our principles and now i'm gonna explain to you
[13:03]how your principle has aligned it's direct but you understand that there's
[13:09]a gray area around your principle and we're gonna examine this gray
[13:13]area and what does this gray area mean and watch how a
[13:18]person gets straight off the road completely without you even knowing what's
[13:23]happening and we're gonna sync this with horror and how this happens
[13:31]so let's go into the first element we talked about yesterday a
[13:35]concept called cognitive dissonance this is where we justify our actions when
[13:40]they go against our principles meaning that when i have an action
[13:45]and i do something and it doesn't sit with my own principles
[13:49]it generates guilt that's the side effect it generates guilt then i
[13:55]have to justify my own actions to my own self i have
[13:59]to lie to myself or i have to make myself feel better
[14:04]some way because i cannot handle the guilt so i have to
[14:07]change one of the cognitions i have to tell myself something different
[14:13]that's one way the second way is this there was a study
[14:18]that was done and it put people 20 participants and the study
[14:28]as a general you're supposed to just figure out certain math problems
[14:32]within a five minute span so within the five minutes you had
[14:36]20 problems to figure out but the condition was that every time
[14:40]you figure out a problem you get 50¢ that was the conversation
[14:48]now on an average they took the averages and on an average
[14:53]they figured out that around four problems were being solved within the
[14:58]five minutes so now here's what happens when you're done with the
[15:03]problems you walk up and you give it to the experimenter and
[15:06]then you tell him i'm done he gives you compensation and you
[15:10]leave the next step of the study is this what happens now
[15:17]they let you move the equation to yourself they let you once
[15:24]you're done with the ex with what you're doing they let you
[15:28]go back to the back of the room put your paper in
[15:32]a shredder and go up and tell the experiment to how much
[15:37]is that right or wrong you know what they found happened it
[15:43]jumped up to six on an average people were moving the principle
[15:49]just a little bit i'm compensating it's okay i moved to six
[15:59]now they wanted to take it even further they upped the ante
[16:03]and they said now we're gonna give you $10 for each one
[16:06]that you get right and they took it even further with removing
[16:10]the experimenter completely now you go shred your paper you go to
[16:17]the front you pick out the money from a pot that they
[16:21]had set and then move this was the shocking thing about the
[16:26]experiment when they upped the ante to $10 every correct answer the
[16:33]numbers dropped they didn't go up once i was wondering how does
[16:38]that happen money is an element that we all seek how do
[16:44]the numbers drop when they up the ante this was the conclusion
[16:50]of the study when i cheat for a little bit it doesn't
[16:56]generate enough guilt when i take a pencil from someone it doesn't
[17:06]generate the guilt but when i go and take a whole packet
[17:11]of pencils staples and other things i cannot do it because there's
[17:17]a consequence and there's a result that makes me feel guilty it's
[17:23]too much to handle so whenever someone begins something it's the first
[17:29]step in the study it concluded that the first step is the
[17:36]most crucial step that a person takes now look at the quran
[17:41]how it lets you this it's so beautiful once you take in
[17:45]the quran and you understand its principles when i listen to music
[18:37]there's nothing wrong with it it's motivational it takes me to the
[18:41]next step little do you know how people use music as a
[18:47]coping mechanism to deal with their problems just like people use drugs
[18:52]and other things it's the first step the next thing you find
[18:56]yourself weird your friends are not even let's go let's go to
[19:00]the club you don't realize that you're already taking the first step
[19:03]before you even consider that let's go to the club nothing wrong
[19:09]with that there's a lot of girls there so now all of
[19:15]a sudden you find find yourself yourself there music girls and alcohol
[19:24]and for the sisters it's we're good on that but the next
[19:31]step little by little you find yourself in situations that you would
[19:35]say to yourself how did i get here how did i take
[19:39]this path when something comes across you your principle says red flag
[20:27]do not enter too much so next time you're about to send
[20:34]and we're talking about text messages and what facebook the next time
[20:40]you're about to put up something or send a girl a message
[20:44]or the guy sends you know the message the sister sent something
[20:49]back understand you're making the first step you started and it's moving
[20:58]you to the next step and you have no idea it's okay
[21:02]you start rationalizing to yourself the moral factors i'll give you a
[21:07]quick example a brother came up to me and he said to
[21:13]me listen i have a problem and i said what is it
[21:19]i can't even mention the problem that he said then he started
[21:25]telling me about his ways of getting a girl to send back
[21:32]text messages to him he was an artist seriously an artist the
[21:42]way he would do it was spectacular every time he would tell
[21:46]me something i would give him the psychological concept that he was
[21:50]using he had already understood the laws of communication in a certain
[21:54]way but i was thinking and i said to him i said
[21:58]imagine that girl that you're sending that message to is so innocent
[22:05]and you're playing with that person's mind you're trying to pull them
[22:10]away i'm telling you some of us are agents of shaitan they
[22:16]want to pull you off the road they want to take you
[22:20]that that we talk about there is a road that's there and
[22:26]some of you right now you may be like man maybe i
[22:30]shouldn't be doing that understand that's your principle of a muslim that
[22:37]i shouldn't be doing that but there's a gray area around that
[22:40]principle and now what happens you move the principle little by little
[22:46]when they started the studies on this how does a millionaire how
[22:50]does a person take millions of dollars without even finishing an eye
[22:53]do think they started there they didn't start there they started with
[22:58]the smallest little thing and the sheikah will take you from one
[23:02]step to the next one by one by one and the most
[23:07]amazing thing is you don't even realize it's happening to you you're
[23:12]not even aware of the situation so sisters please the next time
[23:18]you get a text or you get an invitation to something please
[23:23]deny sorry brothers please deny hold on to your principles because allah
[23:32]says whomever for my sake and for my face rebuke and put
[23:39]somebody away ambitious desires away from my pleasure allah will lure you
[23:45]with something better with this hadith i talked to one person who
[23:51]had a problem for twenty years twenty years they couldn't remove this
[23:56]hadith i just told them this hadith and every time you could
[24:04]talk i obviously you decoded the problem but every time we would
[24:07]talk he would tell i would ask him did you go back
[24:13]he would say no because now he understands and he's connected to
[24:20]that principle of saying no to that there's a lot more emotion
[24:24]intact so now let's go to har and where he's at and
[24:33]how you can drift so far away but at the end you
[24:38]can still come back but you have to become aware you have
[24:44]to realize what's happening to you now he the most beautiful thing
[24:55]about his story that he wasn't in the camp of imam haseem
[25:00]and understand his story and how good we think we are some
[25:08]raymoyans say that there were 30,000 some 70 there was only one
[25:16]person who made it across one person so if you think it's
[25:23]easy to hold on to those principles understand it's not one only
[25:29]one person came across and said you know what i wanna be
[25:33]in your camp so it's not easy to think that you know
[25:37]what when the imam comes i'm just gonna drop everything and i'm
[25:40]just gonna go if that's what you're thinking you're wrong believe me
[25:47]you're wrong because when your life is on the line not many
[25:51]of us can just drop everything and just go like the companions
[25:55]of imam hussain in the middle of the night when he told
[25:58]them to leave you have no obligations they want me this is
[26:04]the most profound thing for me again see how principles rise they
[26:09]rise when you are challenged and then you understand your hierarchy of
[26:14]principle is it my own life or the truth that i stood
[26:18]up for this the way they respond with them with melchizedek if
[26:23]you would be killed a thousand times we would not leave you
[26:30]wow that's permissible that's someone who cannot be shaken when they can
[26:36]look dead straight in the eye then they will not waver so
[26:42]now had even more baggage how he's the one that diverted imam
[26:49]hussain alaihi salaam from an israeli to kufa to kabbalah so now
[26:57]imagine let's go to the land of kabbalah and horror now is
[27:02]on the other side contemplating look at decision making learn from this
[27:09]it's incredible so the next time you have a fork in the
[27:13]road let's listen to what he had to say and what he
[27:16]had to go through because i'm telling you every single moment of
[27:20]your life that decision you make is putting you in the right
[27:24]or the wrong whether you like it or not you send that
[27:28]text message it's taking you maybe to the wrong way you don't
[27:33]send it you're saying no that love i have strength it's taking
[27:37]you all the other way so now is in the middle and
[27:44]he says his friend looks at him and he says to him
[27:48]he says why do i see you perplexed why do i see
[27:55]you in that sedentive manner you look like you're even shady allah
[28:02]looks at him and he says i'm contemplating reflection reflection is the
[28:09]key when you go to sleep tonight take five minutes and look
[28:15]back at your day and see what did i do imam alaihi
[28:22]salaam says account for yourself before you get accounted for before you
[28:28]get accounted for take your list throughout that day and then start
[28:34]jumping off did i do this right or did i do this
[28:36]wrong so now he goes back and he's contemplating his friend says
[28:44]to him he says if i were to be asked which is
[28:48]the most powerful and one of the most powerful people and warriors
[28:53]in the land i wouldn't hesitate to see you so this person
[28:57]had character he had strength and he had ability but where was
[29:06]it it had drifted away to the wrong side this was the
[29:13]issue and now you see how we can step by step by
[29:18]step by step we go further away from the road and you
[29:23]know what's even worse is when we go away from the road
[29:25]we start feeling like such bad people and what happens it becomes
[29:31]too difficult to go back allah will not forgive me i'm too
[29:37]bad of a person it's too hard that's what happens to us
[29:44]see the mental entrapment that's such blame within your one head it's
[29:49]very bad the guilt is too much now imagine hod's position imagine
[29:59]his position he diverted the person he's about to join how much
[30:05]weight would you feel on your shoulders you would feel like you're
[30:10]shackled to the ground how could you even ask for forgiveness this
[30:16]is a trick right there when we don't know how to go
[30:21]back towards allah this is why dua is so important it's the
[30:26]key it unlocks your heart in certain ways if you know how
[30:31]to utilize it now the first thing harv had to believe in
[30:39]and this is so crucial that there is mercy and he can
[30:45]be forgiven understand that is the most important thing when you stray
[30:51]away from the road it is the most important thing dua qumin
[30:58]what's the first what's the first first verse that imam ali uses
[31:03]what's the first verse how does he start the whole dua with
[31:08]what what concept somebody here to me what concept does yama ali
[31:12]begin a whole dua come on guys have to believe in allah's
[31:31]mercy that no matter how far you stray away my hijab is
[31:35]not intact i need to put on the hijab i start feeling
[31:38]guilty those years i spent what will allah do to me the
[31:49]guilt is too much even when the thought is given to you
[32:19]in this manner we start understanding that allah you always have to
[32:24]believe in his mercy always so no matter how far you stray
[32:28]in the road in a way i see her in the middle
[32:31]of the clock and at 02:00 in the morning you wanna come
[32:34]back and you start feeling guilty and somebody turns over into me
[32:39]understand that there's that there's hope no matter what understand that there's
[32:48]hope so now makes the decision and he says he's contemplating going
[32:58]back and forth he says to his friend he says i'm contemplating
[33:02]between heaven and hell wow what a decision what a decision you
[33:10]have to make at the end of your life you realize that
[33:14]you're on a wrong path all this time you realize that you're
[33:18]on a wrong path all this time and it comes now to
[33:23]the point that you have to make the decision everyone the social
[33:27]standard that sits there imam hussein has 72 companions everyone is on
[33:34]the other side how many of us would have the courage to
[33:40]stay on their boat to the other side with surely death facing
[33:45]you right in between your eyes how many of us would have
[33:49]that kind of ability see principle it's the most powerful thing because
[34:23]your heart now is alive in a different way so what does
[34:26]he do imagine the moment that he kicks his horse just imagine
[34:33]that he made the decision time when look at someone take an
[35:50]opportunity please if you can and you have the courage take an
[35:55]opportunity to wash a dead person and i ask you this this
[36:00]is another challenge take an opportunity to do that and wait when
[36:05]you walk in before you walk in take a comment of how
[36:10]you feel when you step in then take in account when you
[36:31]leave what happens to you this is what happens to us when
[36:38]we come to these realizations i guarantee you your heart is alive
[36:57]guarantee because when you don't have water you will think about it
[37:03]all the time when you don't have life you will think about
[37:07]it all the time in every step you will calculate differently so
[37:27]look at the heart of ibn al qazayim imagine now you're facing
[37:32]a person that you've wronged in so many ways and that decision
[37:36]that you make by hurting him is not just going to take
[37:40]his life that's how you make decisions and this is a crucial
[38:15]point the further you are away from the road the more you
[38:21]have to give up the harder you have to work you start
[38:28]looking at your years and you're saying oh my god i've missed
[38:31]so much you allah please give me some time to make up
[38:36]my prayers you allah let me give me some time to raise
[38:40]my kids properly you allah please please please please now it sits
[38:45]on your heart because you realize that your time that you've taken
[38:50]is not being used in the best of manner so the further
[38:54]you stray away the more you have to give hagar the way
[39:00]he compensates himself he says let me be the first martyr in
[39:05]your camp let my life stand as a witness that i've given
[39:10]myself in sacrifice sure again look at the weight these every moment
[39:17]within karbala is a lesson that transcends any other principle this is
[39:24]why we follow these people because they have the highest level of
[39:28]principles in any human being in any hierarchy so the closer you
[39:35]get to these people the more you are perfecting yourself and the
[39:39]closer you are to the road so number one thing if you
[40:08]understand that there's a gray area around your principle please the next
[40:14]time you're gonna do anything don't justify what you're about to do
[40:19]don't say it's okay allah is gonna forgive me i'll wait on
[40:24]my salah little bit it's okay the quran is telling you hold
[40:30]your principle to the tightest forms because the more you stay on
[40:34]the road the safer you are that's the concept then when you
[40:41]apply these properly what happens to you you become a higher being
[40:46]you're gravitating to the highest levels of principles and understanding any comments
[41:01]questions concerns i'd be more than happy thank you brother wissam and
[41:42]if anybody has any questions for him he'll be here in the
[41:45]prayer hall and you can ask him questions in there so he'll
[41:49]be in there shortly moving along let's meet fatiha on behalf of
[41:55]a brother's father's soul who donated the sweets today next i'd like
[42:13]to introduce sayyid he's not been feeling well lately so let's keep
[42:20]him in our dua and our prayers and inshaallah he'll give us
[42:23]a great majlis i'd like to introduce sayyid bakr al musa wa
