Shaykh Azhar Nasser gives us a narration from the Holy Prophet Muhammad (A.S) which is found in Bihar ul-Anwar of Allamah Majlisi, Volume 52 and page 190 about the 'end of time'.

This narration can be found in other Sunni sources too and the descriptions of the Hadith are consistent with what the Ahlulbayt (A.S) have told us as well.

At the end of the lecture, Shaykh gives us another narration from Imam Ja'far as-Sadiq (A.S). The narration gives us a sense of hope. And it is a narration in which the Imam speaks about the pious and righteous youths that will emerge before the reappearance of Imam Mahdi (A.S) and before the end of time.


Hadith of the Holy Prophet:
ثواب الأعمال: بهذا الاسناد قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله: سيأتي زمان على أمتي لا يبقى من القرآن إلا رسمه، ولا من الاسلام إلا اسمه، يسمون به وهم أبعد الناس منه، مساجدهم عامرة، وهي خراب من الهدى، فقهاء ذلك الزمان شر فقهاء تحت ظل السماء، منهم خرجت الفتنة وإليهم تعود.

About Abu Hamza Thumali (r):

His name was Thabit b. Safiya and was known as Abu Hamza Thumali. He was a contemporary (companion) of Imam Ali Zaynul Abideen(a).

Commenting on the worship of his master he said,
“I have never heard that there is a person more ascetic than Ali b. al-Husayn, who caused to weep all those were in his presence when he talked
about asceticism and preaching.”

He has related that during the month of Ramadhan, Imam as-Sajjad (a) spent a greater part of the night in prayers and when it was the time of beginning of the fast he recited the following dua'a. This Dua has been recorded in the book Misbah and also appears in Shaykh Abbas al-Qummi's Mafatihul Jinaan

Ayatullah Khomeini (r) mentions about this Du‘a:

"Read the invocation of Abu Hamza Thumali as uttered by Imam Sayyid as-Sajideen Zaynul `Abideen (a). Reflect upon its subject matter and think for a while on their words. Nowhere are we required to make a rapid reading of this lengthy supplication without pondering over its meaning. You and I are not blessed with the spiritual state of al-Imam as-Sajjad (a) to be able to recite the whole Dua' in a sustained ecstasy at one time. Try to read one third or one fourth of it every night with feeling and meditate upon its words.”

یہ دعا نہایت عمدہ اور فصیح الفاظ میں عظیم المرتبت مضامین پر مشتمل ہے جن میں سے صفات خداوند، اسم اعظم، قبر کی تاریکی و تنہائی، قیامت کی ہولناکی، گناہوں کے بوجھ کی سنگینی، پیغمبر اکرم ؐ اور آپ ؐ کے معصوم خاندان کی اطاعت و پیروی کی ضرورت کی طرف اشارہ کیا جا سکتا ہے۔ اس دعا میں خدا کی بارگاہ میں راز و نیاز کے طریقے، توبہ اور تقوی و پرہیزگاری کے آداب و رسوم کی طرف اشارہ کیا گیا ہے۔

یہ دعا ماہ رمضان میں سحر کے اوقات میں پڑھی جاتی ہے اور اس مہینے کی سحر کی دعاؤں میں طویل ترین دعا ہے۔

اس دعا کی مختلف شرحیں لکھی گئی ہیں جن میں شیخ محمدابراہیم سبزواری، مولی محمد تقی بن حسین‌ علی ہروی اصفہانی اور آیت اللہ جوادی آملی کی شرح کا نام لیا جا سکتا ہے۔

The meaning of the Supplication of Arafah is truly heart-touching and there are many lessons to be learnt through this Supplication. As the Day of Arafah is only 6 months from now, we should start to read the translation of this beautiful Dua to help us prepare to know what we are going to supplicate to Allah SWT on that special day. The first lesson from this Supplication is we should always praise Allah SWT for His bounties He has bestowed upon us and we must be pleased and remain thankful to Him always. Secondly, a Muslim should always be aware of Allah's magnificent attributes, particularly His Oneness as he or she must know that God is completely Independent and there is no similarity between Him and His creatures. Finally, we must resist and fight against the oppressors in order to deliver the oppressed people from bad conditions and provide them with a better life.

The supplicatory prayer of Imam al-Husayn (A), the Chief of Martyrs, on the `Arafat Day is one of the famous prayers. Bishr and Bashir, the sons of Ghalib al-Asadi, narrated that they, once,
accompanied Imam al-Husayn (A) at the `Arafat Night when he left his tent with submission and reverence. He walked slowly until he, accompanied by a group of his household, sons, and servants, stopped at the left side of Mount `Arafat and turned his face towards the Holy Ka`bah. However, despite this difficulty, Jameel has successfully managed to overcome two lifesaving bone marrow transplants. Eve of Destiny (Laylatul Qadr) is the night, which is the most blessed and excellent of all nights. A prayer during this night is superior to the prayer of a thousand months. The destiny for the year is decided on this night. The Angels and Roohul Ameen (a highly dignified Angel) descend on this earth, with the permission of Allah (SWT) & call on the Imam of the time, and what is ordained (by Allah) for everybody is presented before the Imam (May Allah SWT hasten his reappearance). Dua Kumayl - Brother Murtada Qurish with English Subtitles

Kumayl Ibn Ziyad was a prominent companion of Ameer al Mo'mineen, Imam Ali Ibn Abi Talib (as.) and this sublime Dua was first heard from the beautiful, though anguished, voice of Imam Ali.

According to Allama Majlisi, Kumayl had attended an assembly in the Mosque at Basra which was addressed by Imam Ali in which the night of the 15th of Shaban was mentioned. Imam Ali said- "Whosoever keeps awake in devoutness on this night (15th Shaban) and recites the Dua of Prophet Khizr, undoubtedly that person's supplication will be responded to and granted."
When the assembly at the Mosque had dispersed, Kumayl called at the house where Imam Ali was staying, and requested him to inform him of Prophet Khizr's Dua. Imam Ali asked Kumayl to sit down, record and memorise the Dua which Imam Ali dictated to Kumayl.

Imam Ali then advised Kumayl to recite this Dua on the eve of (i.e. evening preceding) every Friday, or once a month or at least once in every year so that, added Imam Ali,
"Allah may protect you from the evils of the enemies and the plots contrived by impostors. O' Kumayl! in consideration of your companionship and understanding, I grant you this honour of entrusting this Dua to you."

The supplication of Arafah by Imam al-Hussain (A.S) is the most important Shi'a supplication that is recited on the Day of 'Arafah. This supplication contains some of the highest theological and spiritual teachings
It was first recited by Imam al-Hussain (A.S) along his companions on the Day of 'Arafah, in the desert of 'Arafat out of their tents. Bishr and Bashir, two sons of Ghalib al-Asadi, have narrated that: during the last hours of 'Arafah, we were with Imam al-Hussain (A.S). Among a group of his family members, relatives and his Shi'a, the Imam (A.S) came out of the tent, and with the utmost humility and obeisance, he stood on the left side of the mountain, turned his face toward the direction of Ka'bah, raised his hands toward the sky in front of his face and started this supplication.
