[1:07]own sadaqa allahu allahu allah Reem or salli ala muhammad wa ala
[1:14]muhammad what is the science behind the effectiveness of the prayer what
[1:24]is it that makes the prayer work what is it that decides
[1:32]whether our prayers are answered or not answered and when you look
[1:36]at that question it may seem as an oxymoron putting the word
[1:39]science and prayer in the same sentence because you may think that
[1:47]science is one language and prayer belongs to another language it belongs
[1:52]to the language of a faith and ritual and religion and those
[1:56]two languages are separate from one another they're two completely different subjects
[2:03]that's why sometimes people who are confused and don't understand the reality
[2:08]they'll say things like I don't believe in religion I believe in
[2:10]science and the reality is is that they are two languages that
[2:16]are not separate from one another they are intertwined if you're able
[2:23]to understand the subtleties in the two so when it comes to
[2:28]prayer in order to understand the science what makes it tick what
[2:34]makes it heard how to properly pray I want to cover for
[2:41]short areas number one answering the question of what is prayer number
[2:46]two what does the Holy Koran tell us about prayer number three
[2:54]the science and the application and the practical side of Prayer and
[2:58]number four the prayers has taught to us by say the Shahada
[3:01]ib abdullah al imam hussain ali salam and his son al imam
[3:12]zain al-abideen alayhim as-salam so number one what is prayer if you
[3:18]look at the word salah the literal meaning of the words allah
[3:23]in arabic is a supplication a dua to ask someone of something
[3:28]however the meaning over gradually over a period of time the word
[3:39]salah became the definition for the ritual practice that is practiced by
[3:43]muslims you know the five daily prayers that's sort of prayer that's
[3:47]sort of salah so in essence it's a way of making a
[3:56]requests and normally that request comes through the form of speech a
[4:02]spoken word so there is formal prayer and there is also informal
[4:05]prayer if you look at the the christian faith there are prayers
[4:15]that are common so christians who pray for instance some of you
[4:18]may be more familiar with this there's a daily prayer is the
[4:23]lord's prayer now i haven't memorized it but it begins with I
[4:27]believe our Father heaven and then it contains an element of give
[4:31]us our daily bread and it's a prayer for protection it's a
[4:36]daily prayer in the Catholic faith there is the Hail Mary and
[4:40]if you've done wrong and you've come to confess your sins the
[4:43]priest will tell you say five Hail Marys or say 10 Hail
[4:48]Marys it's a prayer for intercession in which Mary the mother of
[4:52]Jesus Miriam the mother of the Prophet ISA alaihi Salam is mentioned
[4:59]in the Islamic viewpoint there's different types of prayers so you have
[5:04]your ritual prayer and then you have any general dua that is
[5:08]spoken anything that you ask from Allah subhana WA Ta'ala and the
[5:17]Quran tells us of one of the first acts of Prayer one
[5:20]of the first acts of supplication which was spoken by the Prophet
[5:26]Adam on behalf of himself and hawa it says in surah al-baqarah
[5:31]bismillah r-rahman r-rahim allah they said Carla rabbana in novel Amina and
[5:36]for sana o Allah we have oppressed ourselves well and tougher lana
[5:42]watter homina lan akuna minal Huzur in and if you do not
[5:49]forgive us truly we will be from the losers so some people
[5:51]ask you know when it comes to prayer what do I ask
[5:58]for where do I start a great place to start to answer
[6:04]that question is the Quran the Quran has a number of prayers
[6:06]the Quran has a number of supplications this verse that I just
[6:09]mentioned it's a supplication that Adam spoke there are other supplications that
[6:17]are in the Quran robbing Allah - a fitna in nests inna
[6:20]allatheena oh allah don't hold anything against us if we are forgetful
[6:24]out of forgetfulness or out of a mistake I mentioned the other
[6:31]day that there are of the Prophet Ibrahim when he prayed for
[6:35]the safety and the sanctity of the city of Mecca the Haram
[6:42]the Kaaba well Karla Ibrahimovic al-haddad balada Amina that's a prayer to
[6:48]pray for the safety of your city of your neighborhood of your
[6:51]community so that when you walk out in the streets you feel
[6:56]safe you're okay with your family going up that's a prayer so
[6:59]a number of prayers if you don't know what to say start
[7:03]with the Quran look at what the Quran says there are a
[7:05]number of beautiful prayers and supplications that come directly from the Quran
[7:09]prayer is also a creative act and every time you speak and
[7:17]I mentioned this yesterday the principle of be impeccable with your word
[7:21]every time you speak not only do you describe your reality you
[7:25]create your reality and that's why people live at the level that
[7:28]they speak so if you're always speaking negative then you're gonna live
[7:34]a negative life but if you're always speaking positive and being inspirational
[7:39]and uplifting well that's also gonna reflect in your life as well
[7:42]so we live at the level that we speak so you see
[7:45]most people today they speak defeat into their life they don't speak
[7:48]victory into their life they speak about their problems but they never
[7:54]speak about any solutions and that's why their problems remain because if
[7:58]that's all that you're speaking then that manifests itself in your life
[8:03]so prayer goes beyond just a formality sometimes people are intimidated by
[8:09]a prayer because they think it's some formality and yes the ritual
[8:12]prayer is a formality you know you you have to be in
[8:16]a state of purity there's a certain time for it there's a
[8:18]certain place for it but any words that are spoken from the
[8:23]bottom of the heart constitute a supplication and a prayer and that's
[8:27]why you find in common language people say they pray for a
[8:30]miracle when you pray for a miracle when you find yourself in
[8:36]a situation where you're not necessarily going to stand and do although
[8:39]and face the fibula and make sure that your place is pure
[8:43]you just start praying for a miracle whatever comes to your heart
[8:48]it's very interesting on that fact you know when you when you
[8:55]study theology and when you study basically the the the proof of
[9:00]the existence of God of Allah subhana wa ta'ala there are a
[9:06]number of arguments the ontological argument the teleological argument a number of
[9:09]arguments that philosophers have come up with an amount of sadiq ali
[9:15]salon has a beautiful hadith where he says the following he says
[9:19]do you want do you want proof of the existence of a
[9:24]god he says if people are in a ship in the middle
[9:27]of the ocean and then it gets punctured by a hole and
[9:35]it starts to sink who do those people call out to do
[9:38]they call out to the Flying Spaghetti Monster who do they call
[9:42]out to they call out to God do they call out do
[9:47]they say Oh mother nature saved me Oh father time saved me
[9:50]the same people who will deny God put them in a situation
[9:55]where they're praying for a miracle who do they pray for they
[9:58]pray for God they pray to God they pray to allah subhanaw
[10:00]taala so the words that you speak and that's why there's truth
[10:06]to the statements be careful what you wish for what you wish
[10:09]for what you speak about can very well come true because every
[10:14]word that you speak is a seed that you plant and that
[10:16]seed that you plant can grow into a tree or it can
[10:22]germinate into an entire orchard so be careful of the words that
[10:26]you speak this is part 1 part 2 what is the Quran
[10:31]tell us about prayer the Quran says the following the believers and
[10:36]there are three attributes here number one bismillah ar-rahman ar-rahim and this
[10:42]is in chapter number 23 salat al mu'minin bismillah ar-rahman ar-rahim had
[10:47]a flaw al mu'minin and ladina whom peace Allah to him huh
[10:51]Sharon so number one is that in their prayer they have who
[10:58]schewe they are humble when it comes to their prayer and the
[11:03]word joshua coming the route husha husha a means to lower when
[11:08]something is lowered there's another verse in the Quran wha-ha-ha a swat
[11:14]ruler Ruffman valid pilatus mal Allah Hamza that on the day of
[11:25]judgment I mean think of how descriptive the Quran is in terms
[11:29]of the day of judgment it says that all of the voices
[11:34]shall be lowered and you'll hear nothing except for soft sounds whenever
[11:38]you get a group of people together in a room what tends
[11:40]to happen it's very noisy now this group of people is very
[11:48]well behaved at HMDA live i've been to as just to share
[11:52]with you i was at a community one time where the voices
[11:54]were so loud that I could not hear my own sound go
[11:58]from my mouth to the microphone so I thank you for your
[12:00]well behavior but what happens everybody's voice begins to raise everybody engages
[12:09]in conversation but what happens when someone grabs their attention the voices
[12:15]go low a number of years ago I was in Rome visiting
[12:20]the Pantheon I don't know if you've had this the chance to
[12:22]do this but it's one of those areas where obviously a lot
[12:27]of tourists go and visit and I remember walking into this this
[12:31]great building and on the inside it's it's marvelous and it echoes
[12:36]so the smallest voices become magnified and because everybody's speaking there's the
[12:42]people that are the caretakers standing there in the corner and through
[12:46]a microphone they have to tell people every two minutes to be
[12:48]quiet they say and then everyone's quiet and then all of a
[12:53]sudden you start to hear whispers and then the decibel meter starts
[12:56]to go up until it hits about a hundred decibels and then
[13:01]they have to say it again and it goes down look at
[13:02]how descriptive the Quran is that on the day of judgement imagine
[13:07]a plane of billions of people everyone that lives on earth now
[13:11]everybody that gets resurrected so billions and billions of people their attention
[13:16]is taken to the point that you hear nothing no conversation you
[13:22]only hear soft sounds whether to smile Allah hamsa so hush AHA
[13:27]to bring down so the Quran says the first the first behavior
[13:34]of prayer is alladhina whom feel salat iam hush your own that
[13:39]their humble that their lowly their humble I'll talk about what that
[13:43]means the second is in Chapter number seventy alladhina whom Allah saw
[13:49]lied to him - a moon that a moon refers to people
[13:54]who are constant so you don't just pray once and expect all
[13:59]of your answers to come within a day your constant you constantly
[14:03]pray you're consistent with it even if you don't get what you
[14:07]want most human beings because we live in an instant gratification world
[14:10]and on-demand world we have a very weak faith muscle so we
[14:14]expect to get every time we push a button but that's not
[14:17]how Prater works prayer is not just the button that you push
[14:22]it's a muscle that you develop so those who are constant this
[14:26]is number two number three when ladina whom allah saw lied to
[14:35]him you have your own people who are people who are mindful
[14:38]when it comes to their prayers so those are three one is
[14:45]humble the second is constant repetitive and the third is mindful contrary
[14:51]to that there's also a type of Prayer which in the Quran
[14:54]describes as nothing but noise but some people their prayer is nothing
[14:58]but a physical activity it's just to get the blood flowing in
[15:02]their body in their brain it's just a way for them to
[15:06]make noise he says when he describes the pagan Arabs why mechanis
[15:10]Allah to whom and LBT Allah Mooka and what does dear that
[15:13]their prayer the pagan Arabs they would come and visit the Kaaba
[15:18]as well but what did their prayer consist of whistling and clapping
[15:21]imagine people in al-masjid-al-haram whistling and clapping they were just making noise
[15:29]to them that was their salat that was there that was their
[15:34]prayer so this is what the quran tells us about Prater so
[15:37]what does that mean in terms of application how does that become
[15:40]relevant in terms of application well number one when you look at
[15:49]the attribute of Hacha own humble humble reflects an attitude one of
[15:59]the commandments of locum on the wise to his son was to
[16:04]walk in a state of humility and be humble so humble reflects
[16:14]an attitude and your attitude determines your altitude so what's the attitude
[16:18]that you have do you expect good things to happen in your
[16:24]life when you expect good things to happen in your life good
[16:26]things happen in your life when you have optimism instead of pessimism
[16:35]great things start to happen in your life and the word the
[16:38]term for that the phrase for that in Arabic is personal one
[16:44]to have optimism and if you study some of the supplications of
[16:47]our Imams they talk about having optimism when it comes to receiving
[16:51]forgiveness from God having optimism and hope in the mercy of Allah
[16:55]subhana WA Ta'ala al imam zain al-abideen Alif sallam he says in
[17:02]the treasure that is abu hamza samadhi when i arabiya adam befuddle
[17:06]ik Haribo minka lake Mouton NJ's omoi wa antum in Asahi I'm
[17:16]an ox and a beaker one my lord that I am running
[17:19]from you towards you and when I run towards you I'm banking
[17:28]on and I'm hoping that you would deliver on the mercy that
[17:33]you have promised the people who have optimism towards you even though
[17:38]when you look at my statements it's full of mischeif it's full
[17:47]of disobedience so my statement is not going to earn me your
[17:52]rewards it's not going to earn me your forgiveness I haven't done
[17:57]anything but what I do have on my side is I have
[18:04]hope I have optimism there's a narration and this is more of
[18:09]a figurative narration but it you know it's found in our hadeeth
[18:12]books regardless it describes what happens on the day of judgment that
[18:16]everybody begins to see the the reality and the consequences of what
[18:24]they did in this life and so when you when you see
[18:26]everything in front of you there is no arguing anymore it's normally
[18:31]when there's no evidence that you begin to argue but when the
[18:33]evidence is there you don't argue anymore so people are split some
[18:39]people are directed towards the heaven some people are directed towards the
[18:42]help and the narration says there's one more person and because of
[18:48]his balance sheet he's directed towards the Hellfire and as he is
[18:53]walking towards the Hellfire he turns around and he addresses Allah subhana
[19:00]wa ta'ala and he says the equivalent of this is not what
[19:05]I expected I expected more out of you I I was optimistic
[19:10]I was hopeful when it came to your mercy when it came
[19:12]to receiving and attaining your forgiveness and the narration says that because
[19:16]of that he is directed towards the heaven it's metaphorical because on
[19:22]that day nothing nothing changes in reality but it's a metaphorical hadith
[19:26]we have a number of metaphorical hadith that because of his optimism
[19:32]and because of his hope and when you when you begin to
[19:35]study the science behind hope you realize and I'll talk about this
[19:42]that how hope affects people's health and unfortunately in a lot of
[19:45]medical circles a lot of medical professionals they tend to strip hope
[19:49]from people when they give them the diagnosis even though it's very
[19:53]well-intentioned so Hasharon refers to your attitude attitude do you have when
[20:00]you ask God for something do you actually expect it to come
[20:03]true or is it hey you know I'm just gonna kind of
[20:06]try this and let's see if it works most people have that
[20:10]sort of attitude but when you have a hopeful expectation of something
[20:15]coming to life this is number one number two is the second
[20:21]attribute that amoun people who are constant people who have a habit
[20:33]of repetition and when you repeat something it creates wonders some of
[20:38]you are probably familiar with the 10,000 hour rule there was a
[20:42]there was a book written recently a very popular book and what
[20:44]the author says is when you look at the most successful people
[20:48]in different fields the reason why they're successful isn't because they have
[20:52]a magic pill or anything like that they don't have a magic
[20:55]formula they practice their trade for 10,000 hours they were repetitive whatever
[21:01]you repeat you become good at that's why sometimes you see like
[21:07]they have videos on YouTube of skilled workers if you've ever get
[21:11]if you've ever gotten caught in that YouTube video cycle like most
[21:14]people do skilled workers people who work at insanely fast speeds they
[21:18]don't work like that from day one they work like that because
[21:22]they've worked on it for ten and fifteen and twenty and thirty
[21:24]years of their life it's repetition so what's the science behind that
[21:29]why does the Quran talk about repetitiveness and being constant when it
[21:33]comes to your prayer if you look at the brain and if
[21:39]you're familiar with the field of neuroplasticity what's neuroplasticity neuroplasticity is the
[21:44]theory that suggests that our brains as adults are constantly growing it
[21:49]doesn't stop growing and that there are ways to create neurological pathways
[21:55]in the brain and this even has physiological effects to it in
[22:03]fact there's data if you look it up there's data that proves
[22:07]that [Music] neuroplasticity therapy can help people who have suffered from a
[22:17]stroke and even mild concussions it can help people who have taken
[22:23]on certain addictive disorders because what it allows you to do is
[22:29]to create new pathways in the brain and so you help the
[22:35]brain heal itself and develop new habits it's called neuroplasticity one of
[22:41]the ways that you can use neuroplasticity towards your advantage is through
[22:44]repetition anything that you do repetitively that's why you see people who
[22:49]are very very skilled they don't put as much effort into the
[22:56]skill that they're doing anymore why because the brain sort of goes
[23:00]on autopilot because it has so many neurological pathways that it's on
[23:04]autopilot but if you haven't created those neurological pathways in your mind
[23:09]then there's no autopilot so when you're repetitively saying something this is
[23:13]the way that you can use neuroplasticity towards your advantage through repetition
[23:19]so for instance there's a lot of truth to repeating positive affirmations
[23:23]on a daily basis if you have positive affirmations if you tell
[23:27]yourself that you're worthy that you're loved that you're confident that you're
[23:31]strong that you're capable that you're smart that you're intelligent that you're
[23:37]loved that you give love if you repeat that to yourself on
[23:39]a daily basis try it and some of you are thinking and
[23:43]and and there's some people out there that are very skeptical of
[23:45]this they say no that's just positivity motivation mumbo-jumbo okay well try
[23:50]the opposite go out for a year and repeat negative affirmations to
[23:54]yourself wake up in the morning and 10 times a day say
[23:57]I'm stupid I'm stupid I'm stupid I'm stupid see what happens to
[24:00]you after a year so you create these neurological pathways in your
[24:07]mind and then you become it your behavior becomes that's why the
[24:11]Quran says that they are constant and they are repetitive when it
[24:14]comes to their prayer not just they pray one time have you
[24:18]noticed that when we do tests to be hot it's not just
[24:20]that we say so one time you say it 30 sometimes allahu
[24:24]akbar the same thing subhanAllah the same thing because the more you
[24:29]repeat it the more it becomes part of your subconscious mind and
[24:32]the more what you're saying manifests itself in reality this is number
[24:40]two number three is you half alone they're mindful what is mindfulness
[24:46]now I know there's this new age thing called mindfulness and now
[24:50]it's a very cool thing they're writing books on mindfulness and podcasts
[24:56]and blogs but mindfulness is really a concept that has existed for
[25:01]thousands of years what mindfulness just means is that your presence so
[25:04]if you're sitting in a lecture hall you're present if you're praying
[25:08]you're presence if someone you love is speaking to you your presence
[25:12]your mind isn't somewhere else your body isn't somewhere else just to
[25:19]be present and and part of that is just common courtesy being
[25:24]present but there's a lot of power to that and what I
[25:27]want to talk about when it comes to mindfulness is not being
[25:34]distracted by anything else not mixing positive emotions with negative emotions when
[25:39]you're praying what kind of emotions are in your heart when you're
[25:45]praying to allah subhanho wa taala what kind of emotions are supposed
[25:48]to be in your heart there are positive emotions and they are
[25:53]negative what are some positive emotions hope love generosity kindness those are
[26:00]positive emotions what are some negative emotions fear greed superstition jealousy so
[26:08]imagine standing in front of God and praying and being mindful what
[26:12]that means is that you focus on positive emotions you don't allow
[26:16]any negative emotions to come and distract you because positive emotions and
[26:21]negative emotions cannot exist in the same place at the same time
[26:25]so you cannot have faith in allah subhana wa ta'ala but also
[26:28]fear him now I'll talk about what fear means because the quran
[26:30]tells us to fear but I'm talking about fear that something's not
[26:37]gonna come true you can't have faith in fear at the same
[26:39]time you can't be generous in the same way you can't be
[26:44]generous in greedy at the same time you can't love and hate
[26:46]at the same time it just doesn't exist in one place and
[26:52]that's why the Quran says in chapter 33 Magi Allahu Allah Allahu
[26:55]Liman Albani fie Jaffa that God has not created two hearts for
[27:02]a man inside his chest not literally two organs one time someone
[27:05]came up to me and said you well what the Quran is
[27:07]wrong because some guy was born with two hearts this is what
[27:11]happens when we look at the Quran on a very surface level
[27:13]beyond that what the commentators have said is that is that two
[27:21]conflicting emotions cannot exist in the heart at the same time so
[27:25]you can't be greedy and generous at the same time you can't
[27:29]have love and hatred at the same time they talk about a
[27:32]love-hate relationship that doesn't exist at the same time you can't love
[27:36]something and hate something at the same time there's different stages so
[27:42]when it comes to when it comes to your when it comes
[27:46]to positive and negative emotions there's there's a lot to be said
[27:49]but I just want to focus on this positive emotion and this
[27:54]one faith versus fear when it comes to our salah and when
[27:57]we stand in front of allah subhana wa ta'ala how we need
[28:02]to be single-minded when it comes to our faith see one of
[28:06]the one of the effects of faith and fear is physiological there
[28:12]was a professor by the name of Norman Cousins he was a
[28:19]professor of psychiatry and behavioral science at UCLA and by profession he
[28:24]was a journalist it wasn't dr.
[28:26]he was a journalist but he started researching the biomedical field and
[28:30]then he himself became sick with an autoimmune disease so he had
[28:37]done some research and so he decided that when he became sick
[28:40]with the autoimmune disease that he wasn't gonna take negativity from anyone
[28:43]not from the doctor not from people at home so he sort
[28:48]of just put self aside and he talks about the treatment and
[28:51]how he cured himself of his autoimmune disease he says number one
[28:54]I took large doses of vitamin C so he did something physical
[29:00]he said number two is that I began to cure my autoimmune
[29:05]disease through positive emotions such as faith he says I began to
[29:10]change my behavior any time someone would want to say something negative
[29:16]or sympathize put that aside he said I began to intentionally laugh
[29:20]I began to engage in humorous acts so I could laugh and
[29:23]the type of autoimmune disease that he had was so painful it
[29:28]was causing him so much pain that he couldn't even sleep so
[29:30]he said what I would do and this is documented he wrote
[29:33]a book he wrote a number of books one of his books
[29:37]is called anatomy of an illness you can look it up he
[29:39]said I would turn on candid camera shows who doesn't like candid
[29:43]camera shows and when they everybody likes the candid camera show and
[29:48]he says that I would engage in 10 minutes of belly laughter
[29:55]I would laugh as much as I could he said every day
[29:59]and I began to notice a formula in a pattern every 10
[30:01]minutes of belly laughter that I would produce would afford me two
[30:05]hours of painless sleep and so he became more interested in this
[30:13]he started doing more so he says it he cured himself from
[30:14]his autoimmune disease many years later him and his wife both faced
[30:19]heart disease and they were able to cure themselves again so he
[30:22]started to do research he says that when you have hope and
[30:25]when you have faith and when you have positive emotions physiologically it
[30:29]begins to cure you in a way that some modern technique some
[30:34]modern medicines can never do so they've started to do research and
[30:37]one of the pieces of research we found that when a person
[30:40]laughs or when they have positive emotions such as hope and such
[30:46]as courage and such as victory the spleen begins to produce red
[30:51]blood cells that if a person is suffering from cancer it goes
[30:54]straight to the cancer cells and it kills them without the need
[30:58]for chemotherapy because chemotherapy kills the malignant cells and the good cells
[31:03]but this type of therapy what he called laughter therapy would go
[31:08]straight to the cancer cells and kill them literally it would heal
[31:11]them the opposite is also true have you seen when people are
[31:18]terrified of illness when they're terrified of sickness when just the sound
[31:22]of sickness makes them tremble what eventually happens to these people they
[31:28]get sick and die most of them you probably have examples within
[31:31]your own extended family I've seen it myself with an extended family
[31:34]people who are terrified eventually they become sick because they allow fear
[31:39]to take over faith and a positive emotion and a negative emotion
[31:44]cannot exist in one place at the same time that's why the
[31:51]Quran talks about mindfulness being single-minded when you focus on your relationship
[31:58]with allah subhana wa ta'ala and no one else only with Allah
[32:01]subhana WA Ta'ala and this begins to shed light and explain on
[32:07]what happened to Phil around during his final moments what happened finally
[32:12]when the sea was closing when he saw that that's it I'm
[32:15]wrong and they're right and of course for Alan throughout his life
[32:20]he saw himself as a god he read his story in the
[32:22]Quran he saw himself as a God he was untouchable finally when
[32:27]the waves came crashing and he knew he was gonna die the
[32:30]Quran quotes him he says Allah amento anhu la ilaha il-allah be
[32:37]a Manette's be he been you astray he doesn't say la ilaha
[32:42]illallah he says la ilaha il-allah be a Manette's be he be
[32:45]no Israel meaning whatever those guys are doing whatever God they believe
[32:52]in I believe into no faith no single mindedness he was still
[32:56]thinking about other thing he was still thinking about his kingdom because
[33:00]if he was sincere he would have said la ilaha illaallah but
[33:03]he said the god of been wa it whatever they're worshiping is
[33:07]now good for me and there's a narration attached to this the
[33:10]narration if I'm not mistaken is from the 8th Imam al imam
[33:14]ali abnormal sabah is this is the reason because he did not
[33:17]call out for God himself he was not sincere he was not
[33:26]single-minded and that's why we need to reflect and say well the
[33:29]prayers if you if you if you think about it think about
[33:34]some of the things that have come true in in your life
[33:36]because of Prayer one writer who's a secular writer he doesn't even
[33:42]mention God when he talks about this but he says that during
[33:44]those times that you asked for something and it was granted reflect
[33:49]on the state of mind that you had think about it most
[33:53]likely the state of mind that was that you were in the
[34:00]state of tomorrow what is tomorrow tomorrow is an on your knees
[34:05]type of dedication not just I asked but I'm on my I
[34:09]beg I don't find hope in anything else I'm single-minded in my
[34:16]purpose there's nothing else that's distracting me so when you look at
[34:21]it from a psychological point of view when you look it from
[34:25]a physiological point of view when you look at it from a
[34:29]a spiritual and an emotional point of view it makes sense why
[34:32]the Quran uses specific words when it talks about effective prayer not
[34:38]just people who are praying and saying words like the people who
[34:42]were whistling and clapping but people who had the right attitude optimism
[34:46]belief people who were constant they were consistent no matter what they
[34:53]were going to pray affirmations and number three is single mindedness mindfulness
[35:01]and being single-minded in your purpose an imam zain al-abideen a leaf
[35:07]sallam has a beautiful way of expressing this and Abu Hamza Samadhi
[35:11]alhamdulillah Halevy la carrera won out the outer layer ah who let
[35:16]me establish aha if I ask anybody else if I'm not say
[35:22]if I'm doing minded and I asked somebody else and I asked
[35:24]you it's not gonna take place but if I only ask you
[35:28]it's going to take place just one final point I mentioned when
[35:35]it comes to fear because some of you might think okay well
[35:37]fear Quran talks about fear in the offal la Habana me that
[35:43]fear can be a positive emotion as well the type of fear
[35:46]that's a positive emotion that that's a positive driver is not fear
[35:52]of Allah subhana WA Ta'ala it's not fear of him as a
[35:56]boogie monster it's not that fear what religious scholars have said fear
[36:00]of God when you talk about fear of God it's our the
[36:04]fear of our own capacity for our self destructive nature because we
[36:08]have a self destructive nature so fear is not fear of God
[36:15]it's fear of our own self destructive nature and so putting all
[36:19]this into context it makes sense when you study the life of
[36:23]an imam say the Shahada ABI Abdillah al-hussein Ali Sarah and the
[36:30]words that he chose to speak how precise he was in his
[36:33]dua in one of the coming nights and shall I will share
[36:37]with you some of the words of there are Arafah a very
[36:41]very special supplication that belongs to imam hussain ali Sara but there
[36:47]was a special dua that the Imam spoke on the day of
[36:52]ashura allah humma antithetical occurred what intellij offical amoeba Oh Allah you
[36:59]are the most trustworthy one when it comes to difficult challenges and
[37:05]ordeals entourage ah if you could lean mostly but you are the
[37:08]one that I plead with you are the one that I turn
[37:13]to in times of calamity in times of challenges I don't turn
[37:20]to anyone else the door I says that that every mishap every
[37:24]challenge that comes my way and Zelda who bacall to who awake
[37:27]Robert and mini alaikum man see walk that I prefer you I
[37:35]prefer coming to you o Allah over everyone else there are some
[37:38]people that can that would be able to support you here and
[37:41]there but I know that you are the number one choice you
[37:45]are at the top of my list so I am single-minded in
[37:49]my purpose when it comes to my relationship with you I don't
[37:52]believe that if God isn't gonna give it to me I'm gonna
[37:56]go to someone else and they can give it to me and
[37:57]that's the mindset of many people today that's why a lot of
[38:03]people lose their spirituality and lose their religion but God didn't give
[38:08]it to me it's a very very transactional mindset I gave this
[38:10]to God God didn't give it to me I'm gonna go give
[38:14]my product elsewhere and perhaps I'm gonna get it elsewhere Imam Hussain
[38:17]says no not at all what about 10min de LICA and Mansi
[38:28]walk I have a desire to share everything that I have with
[38:30]you and only with you and no one else this was the
[38:35]single-mindedness of imam hussain ali salaam and this is why allah subhana
[38:38]wa ta'ala gave imam hussain what he gave him this is why
[38:44]imam hussain today owns the hearts of millions of people worldwide because
[38:49]he was single-minded in his purpose and people follow you as a
[38:53]leader as a father as a mother as a big brother as
[38:57]a community leader when you're courageous when you're single minded not when
[39:03]your dual minded a jack of all trades master of none and
[39:06]that's very real when it comes to your faith in your relationship
[39:13]with Allah subhana WA Ta'ala tonight is the night that we commemorates
[39:16]the martyrdom of the ambassador of imam hussain ali salaam muslim evening
[39:20]and just to give you a very short synopsis most in arabic
[39:23]it was obviously the cousin of imam hussain ali salam and he
[39:29]was a very very trusted man when the letters began to arrive
[39:33]to Imam Hussein from Kufa to invite him to come in and
[39:41]lead the community there he sent his emissary Muslim banoffee narrations and
[39:46]that said that he also sent a couple of people but they
[39:47]did not make it and with much difficulty Muslim arrives to the
[39:53]city of Kufa and when he first arrives he stays in the
[39:58]home of Elmo terribie nebia obeyed Ithaca fee who later revolts who
[40:02]is in prison during the time of Ashura but then comes out
[40:09]of prison and then he revolts when he arrives there the governor
[40:13]of Alcoa is an even Beshear man even Beshear some describe him
[40:20]as a passive person that he said that as long as the
[40:27]politics remain you know untouched then it's okay let Muslim be here
[40:33]but some of the Umayyads there they were concerned for the situation
[40:38]so they so they wrote a letter to they wrote multiple letters
[40:40]to use either in Malawi and Damascus Yazeed sends a letter to
[40:44]obeyed Allah have been za2 at that time was the governor of
[40:47]Basra he says go to Kufa right away and take care of
[40:50]the situation so related na hai bin zayed he gets up and
[40:55]leaves he has a number of people with him and he doesn't
[41:00]really have any supporters but he's a master of disguise so narration
[41:03]says that he cloaks and he covers himself in a way so
[41:07]that people think that he is the Imam and that he is
[41:09]arrived and he enters the city of Kufa and in not mana
[41:14]bin Bushido doesn't recognize him in the beginning but he tells him
[41:17]I'm here to take things over you're officially resigned so he takes
[41:22]over when he takes over he understands that Muslim if na ki
[41:28]is in Kufa so it's not safe for Muslim to stay in
[41:31]one place so he begins to move around he goes to the
[41:33]home of Hani urban Ottawa one of the trusted companions to make
[41:38]a long story short there was so much pressure and there was
[41:41]so much alienation that Muslim him now he found himself a number
[41:48]of days later alone because people had been threatened that whoever supports
[41:52]him shall be beheaded shall be taken into custody shall be held
[41:58]responsible so most everyone was fearful and so Muslim this trusted ambassador
[42:04]after arriving into the city and having thousands of supporters he finds
[42:10]himself alone Waheeda and Farida walking in the streets of Kufa alone
[42:15]thirsty with no one to help him until finally narrations say that
[42:23]he arrived at the doorsteps of a very righteous woman by the
[42:28]name of towel and he asks her because of his thirst he
[42:31]asks her for a drink of water and she provides him with
[42:36]a drink of water and after he's done he does not leave
[42:42]her doorstep so she turns to him she says ya Abdullah this
[42:45]is this is not an appropriate situation I am a woman and
[42:50]you are here you're a foreigner you're sitting at my doorstep and
[42:54]I've given you what you wanted why are you lingering around why
[42:58]are you still here he says my lady I have nowhere to
[43:04]go and he introduces himself he says I am Muslim I banoffee
[43:09]I am the ambassador of her sainted Nadi I am here to
[43:15]fulfill the mission and he informs her that people have sold me
[43:18]out people have abandoned me there is no one who is supporting
[43:20]me anymore so she brings him in she provides refuge for him
[43:25]narrations say that he spent the entire night in worship entire night
[43:32]because he knew what was going to happen and when the morning
[43:36]arrives she had a son who was working for the army of
[43:42]a bay de la Habana so he informed the soldiers of the
[43:46]whereabouts so the soldiers come to the door of Dawa narrations say
[43:54]hundreds maybe thousands of them were there but there was a very
[43:58]very narrow alleyway so it was difficult for them to get to
[44:02]the home so Muslim if not appeal he comes out and he
[44:06]confronts them and he knows just like his master say the Shahada
[44:14]ABI Abdillah and her saying that no way to die is to
[44:17]get being arrested is not the way to go and so he
[44:22]fights and now says that he engages in battle with them right
[44:25]there and because of his bravery he begins to subdue the enemies
[44:31]one after another after another after another until finally they begin to
[44:35]surround from the rooftops narrations say that they they found a way
[44:42]to dig a hole behind him and that he fell into the
[44:44]hole and finally they were able to capture him and the person
[44:49]that captured him was Mohammed Abdullah Shah and finally they brought him
[44:54]as a captive to the governorship the palace of governorship of Obeidallah
[45:01]hidden is yogge and he says I have a number of requests
[45:03]now by that time he is bleeding and they wanted to give
[45:08]him water so they brought for him a cup of water and
[45:10]the blood from his mouth began to spill into the water so
[45:15]he could not drink it because it had blood in it so
[45:18]they poured it out they brought him more water again the blood
[45:20]began to pour in it he poured it out they brought it
[45:22]again his blood began to pour into it until finally he realized
[45:28]that it is my destiny to also die thirsty they said do
[45:32]you have any requests a narration says that he spoke to one
[45:38]of the soldiers in the corner he says yes I have three
[45:39]requests number one I have a loan that I want you to
[45:46]pay off of 700 dollars I want you to pay that off
[45:50]I have money in Medina please ask for it to be paid
[45:55]off number two I want you to give my body a proper
[45:57]burial after you do what you do this is my second request
[46:03]and number three I want you to send message to my master
[46:05]for saying and tell him that the people of Kufa have sold
[46:09]us out and they have changed their minds do not come here
[46:12]for if you come here surely you will meet your demise of
[46:17]course they did not grant him his request the money issue they
[46:20]did not care about but the second to request they did not
[46:25]grant narrations say that they took him up to the rooftop and
[46:28]to make an example out of him they assassinated him they executed
[46:31]him they beheaded him and they pushed his body off of the
[46:35]rooftop then they took his body and they dragged it in the
[46:40]streets of Kufa to make an example out of it narrations tell
[46:44]us that the news arrived to imam hussain ali salam during one
[46:51]of his stops on the way and when imam hussain ali salam
[46:54]received the news of the assassination of muslim Abenaki he turned to
[46:58]the womenfolk he turned to the tent of the woman and he
[47:03]said bring for me Hamidah the daughter of muslim when they brought
[47:06]for him Hamidah he embraced her he wiped his hand above her
[47:12]head since she had become an orphan then he directed her to
[47:14]go to her cousins who would now become her sisters and her
[47:17]family members in nara la plana Ilayaraja own was a al-amin ladina
[47:23]walamu am own caliber young pala boon voila October 2 lil Mucha
