Do we understand ourselves? #ramadan 2025 Day 13

[0:02][Music] What are the most powerful ways to understanding yourself and others

[0:27]and what is the importance of that?

[0:30]Have you noticed how you sometimes connect instantly with some people and

[0:36]really struggle with others?

[0:37]Have you also maybe noticed how some people seem to get along

[0:41]with almost everyone while others just seem to struggle to connect with

[0:46]even a small circle of friendship.

[0:48]As a Muslim community, we must strive to improve our relationship with

[0:54]each other through understanding compassion so that we can unite as a

[1:00]Muslim ummah to grow but also to serve on the path of

[1:05]the truth.

[1:03]Understanding human psychology is one of the most fascinating journeys in life.

[1:09]Humans are a beautiful creation of Allah subhana tala.

[1:13]One that Allah has chosen to be his khalifa, the representative of

[1:17]him in this world.

[1:19]And obviously the best of that is our prophet Muhammad peace be

[1:23]upon him.

[1:25]But we each have a responsibility in this.

[1:25]And that means we need to be able to understand our own

[1:29]selves, our strengths, our weaknesses, but also connect to get the best

[1:34]out of other people.

[1:34]We are all special and we are complex beings.

[1:39]We're made of body, mind, and soul or spiritual element to us.

[1:43]We are impacted by both nature and nurture.

[1:47]And so understanding the psychology of humans often seems like an ocean

[1:51]that is so deep and wide.

[1:56]But also I do hope that you will find it fascinating and

[1:59]beautiful to dive into.

[2:00]Understanding ourselves means we begin to understand why we think the way

[2:06]we do and why we make certain decisions and not others and

[2:10]why we act in certain ways in in certain situations.

[2:14]And once we each embark on this journey of self-discovery, inshallah, we

[2:19]will begin to be able to tailor our own growth in a

[2:21]genuine way without comparison to others.

[2:25]We will discover how Allah created each one of us in a

[2:31]special and a beautiful way and will inshallah serve us to get

[2:34]closer to him and get the best out of ourselves through that.

[2:38]Understanding human mind and behavior also allows you to understand other people.

[2:43]Why and how people can think, feel, and sometimes act so differently

[2:47]to us.

[2:49]And inshallah through that journey it will we will strive to be

[2:52]less judgmental and more understanding and compassionate towards other people as well.

[2:58]It allows us also to connect with different types of people and

[3:03]have a positive impact on them in a way that is aligned

[3:05]to them.

[3:06]And while I said it seems like sometimes an ocean of knowledge,

[3:10]I wanted to begin this journey for you and seeking to understand

[3:14]one part of maybe what shapes us, what shapes you and I.

[3:18]And that is our personality.

[3:21]Personality is a beautiful and fascinating um world to go into.

[3:25]There are so many different personality profiles or tests out there.

[3:30]The one that I have found to be really useful that is

[3:33]used within psychology and the personal development and actually used within corporate

[3:37]worlds as well is the DISC profiling and it serves as a

[3:42]great way to understanding human behavior but also brilliant at improving communication.

[3:47]In summary to this, inshallah you this will entice you and encourage

[3:52]you to read more about it.

[3:54]But in summary, there according to this profiling method, there are four

[3:59]main types of personalities.

[3:59]The first one are is the D personality, the Dd dominant personalities

[4:04]or the reds if you're using the colors.

[4:07]And these within our society, they are the leaders, they're the strong

[4:11]willed, they're the goal orientated, decisive personalities.

[4:15]The second personalities or the the eyes or the influencers they are

[4:21]or the yellows if you're using the colors are the social butterflies

[4:25]in our societies.

[4:25]They're the outgoing ones, the social ones, often persuasive personalities.

[4:30]The third is the S or steady personality or the green personalities

[4:36]and they're the ones that are more people focused.

[4:38]They're the loyal, they're the patient ones.

[4:40]And actually these are the majority of our society are the S

[4:44]personalities.

[4:44]The fourth is the C or conscientious personalities or the blues.

[4:49]These are the ones that are more reserved.

[4:52]They have a real eye to detail.

[4:54]They are also goal orientated.

[4:56]They are great analysts often very disciplined as well.

[5:02]Something important to remember when we look at all of these four

[5:05]personalities is that there is no such thing as a good or

[5:11]bad personality.

[5:10]Each one of those has its own unique strengths and weaknesses.

[5:14]Weaknesses.

[5:15]Knowing the strengths and weaknesses of each allows us to grow within

[5:20]ourself and communicate to each person in a way that they understand.

[5:25]For example, a dominant personality is focused on goals as we said.

[5:30]So they are brilliant at making decisions, seeing the big picture, getting

[5:35]things done quickly.

[5:37]At the same time, there's another part of them that doesn't actually

[5:41]enjoy small talk.

[5:43]They can come across as being abrupt or rude because they are

[5:46]focused on the end goal more.

[5:47]And even though they may come across, that's rarely their intention.

[5:52]And understanding this means we sway away from making judgments about them,

[5:57]but actually connect with them in the best way possible.

[6:00]And so ultimately understanding the strengths and the weaknesses of each personality

[6:07]whether it's yours or other people helps you to improve those relationships

[6:11]with others.

[6:11]And if we consider that especially when we look at marital relationship

[6:16]or a parent child relationship or colleagues even we can see how

[6:20]far and how meaningful understanding personalities can become.

[6:24]So for example if you're living with an S personality you will

[6:27]know that they will value emotional reassurance.

[6:30]they will give the best in themselves and so we can connect

[6:36]with them at that level.

[6:36]A C personality will require more time in making decision.

[6:39]They will need to know more details about what you are doing

[6:43]and why you are doing it.

[6:44]That's not them trying to be difficult.

[6:47]They just may be thinking differently to you.

[6:51]And in any group, any business, any community, we actually need all

[6:57]of these beautiful personalities to be able to function and get the

[7:01]best out of our collective aims and goals.

[7:04]And there's a beautiful hadith by prophet Muhammad where he says that

[7:08]we the prophets have been commanded to speak to people according to

[7:15]their level of knowledge.

[7:15]And if we can go a bit deeper in understanding this hadith

[7:18]maybe that this knowledge isn't just about the knowledge that they know

[7:25]that that individual knows but also go beyond that to speak to

[7:29]them in a style and an approach that they will understand uniquely.

[7:33]So what can we do knowing this now?

[7:36]Inshallah this has encouraged you to read more about the different personalities

[7:41]not for making judgment but rather for being curious to understand yourself

[7:48]understand others and really work on improving your communication.

[7:51]Uh and personality is a really sometimes simple way that opens up

[7:55]that way that field and it allows you inshallah to grow in

[8:01]yourself improve your connection with others and collectively as a society work

[8:07]best to connect to Allah and our purpose and serve our community

[8:10]in the best way.
