[1:26]i will take you to the following floors when they are ready
[1:43][Music] hey i am [Music] hey [Music] [Music] [Music] what's the longest
[3:02]verse in the holy quran i guarantee you if you were to
[3:05]ask many muslims in the world to tell you what the longest
[3:09]i of the holy quran is sadly many will not be able
[3:14]to answer it's a great quiz question in fact if you are
[3:16]ever involved in these quizzes like our beloved yasser is where you
[3:20]could literally ask what's the longest ayah in the holy quran and
[3:26]you find therefore that if someone was to ask me when i
[3:30]was younger what's the longest verse in the holy quran i would
[3:34]have assumed it would be a verse that discusses god because muslims
[3:39]talk about allah so much and talk about their lord and want
[3:43]to build a relationship with their lord so i would have assumed
[3:45]that the longest i in the holy quran would be about the
[3:46]lord no i would have assumed that the longest i and the
[3:52]holy quran would be about for as an example the holy prophet
[3:57]muhammad peace be upon him and his family most revered within the
[4:01]religion of islam you'd think that the longest verse that would give
[4:05]us instructions about how to relate to the prophet peace be upon
[4:07]him and his family how to follow his example how to understand
[4:14]his teachings would be a verse that discusses parts of his biography
[4:19]no longest verse in the holy quran may be about an act
[4:25]of worship like salah we all know muslims are non-muslims no that
[4:30]muslims love their prayers especially a prayer like the friday prayer five
[4:33]times a day prayer is obligatory is the longest verse in the
[4:40]holy quran about salah no so the longest verse in the holy
[4:44]quran what is it then about why is it as well that
[4:46]many muslims do not know which is the longest verse in the
[4:49]quran yes if you want to ask many muslims what is the
[4:52]longest surah in the holy quran straight away all of us would
[4:56]say suratul makkara yes but if you were to ask many muslims
[5:00]what is the longest verse in the holy quran i think it
[5:04]shows us two things when they cannot answer number one our lack
[5:08]of a relationship with the holy quran you see our relationship with
[5:12]things that we love we know everything about if you tell me
[5:16]for example who's liverpool's longest serving player which player has played for
[5:21]the club the most i will be able to mention you names
[5:22]of players who i know have got many appearances under their belt
[5:26]i'll mention to you callaghan i'll mention to you gerard i'll mention
[5:30]to you others who have got many appearances under their belt longest
[5:35]serving player for your football club many will be able to answer
[5:40]but the quran we're seeking in this month to build the relationship
[5:43]where when someone says to me what's the shortest eye in the
[5:46]quran i'll point to an eye and swallow what's the longest i
[5:48]in the quran i'll point to an eye and swallow and i'll
[5:51]know what that ayah is about as well but more importantly when
[5:56]i'm looking at the longest verse in the holy quran it highlights
[5:59]that even my understanding of the religion and what determines my religiosity
[6:05]is not necessarily what we're taught in our mosques in our mosques
[6:10]what are we taught that a person's religiosity is the beard that
[6:19]they keep is the sib had they have in their hand is
[6:22]the way they dress is their attendance in the mosque all of
[6:29]these are important but what if this is the type of person
[6:31]who for example is not trustworthy a person who accrues a lot
[6:37]of debt a person who ends up scamming a person who ends
[6:43]up stealing the reality is that our conception of religious is far
[6:48]from the meaning that the quran and the teachings and the traditions
[6:55]of the prophet peace be upon him and his family guide us
[6:57]with because when i ask you what is the word for religion
[7:02]in arabic what would you say to me the word for religion
[7:07]in arabic deen deen what does it mean in english straight away
[7:11]what do we say religion but if i for example have given
[7:19]someone a den then what does it mean then means a particular
[7:24]amount that i've borrowed them i've loaned someone true so therefore what
[7:29]does dean have to do with a loan or borrowing or even
[7:34]a debt that we are accountable with a certain debt to allah
[7:39]subhanahu wa ta'ala to fulfill what he's asked us to follow our
[7:45]understanding even of religion the word deen straight away when you ask
[7:50]someone bro are you following the deen he'll say yes bro i'm
[7:54]following the religion but deen in its origin is a debt and
[7:59]i'm accountable to allah as if i'm in debt for the religion
[8:05]that he's guided me with the longest ayah in the holy quran
[8:10]the longest verse in the holy quran talks about how i'm accountable
[8:14]for the debts or the loans that i have with people for
[8:17]it's known as ayat den the verse of loans or the verse
[8:24]of that which you have borrowed or the verse of debt that
[8:29]may be accrued this ayah is longer than some surahs of the
[8:33]quran because when i pick one eye to discuss for this whole
[8:41]episode of in the quran it must have a lot to talk
[8:46]about because if i were to ask you give me an ayah
[8:47]that you've memorized someone might say it's not something that's going to
[8:54]be a 45 50 minute discussion these verses may have one instruction
[9:08]this one has 19 instructions in one ayah there is no verse
[9:15]in the quran as long as the verse not on salah not
[9:18]on god not on the prophet but on debts and loans that
[9:23]you take or you give where's the most trouble in a muslim
[9:29]community is it to do with salah not really most people when
[9:32]they come to pray salah mind their own business you might always
[9:36]have that one naggy person who might come and say well is
[9:39]the imam adil is he someone i can pray behind i'm not
[9:41]sure if i trust him you might have that one most of
[9:45]the time you just get there who's just finished salah and get
[9:48]on with life you're not going to have many problems with psalm
[9:50]even hajj time let's face the facts you get there you're in
[9:54]a group you meet other groups you finish and you move on
[9:57]if ever there was a problem in the muslim community it's the
[10:00]problem when it comes to du un when i've for example either
[10:06]incurred a debt or i have given someone some money and bro
[10:12]they're not paying it back i see sen for example one day
[10:17]sen comes to me he says to me sayidna i have a
[10:23]particular product if you can borrow me some money in our lingo
[10:28]i'll pay it back to you but i need some of this
[10:32]money up front sayidna because the product that i have i may
[10:37]be growing it on a farm so i'm going to have to
[10:40]buy some seeds i'm going to have to buy the right equipment
[10:42]but say it now give me a year and i'll give it
[10:46]back to you a year comes i call that sen i'm like
[10:49]saying you can give it back to me because i recognized that
[10:53]this was a transaction where you needed an upfront payment but you
[10:57]said to me within a year you'll give it back to me
[10:59]can you get back to me you don't know what's happened i
[11:06]tried my hardest and i went here and you don't know this
[11:10]and that and so on so i'm like habibi but you said
[11:15]to me last year he's like bro i'm telling you just give
[11:17]me two weeks and contact me two weeks his phone's numbers changed
[11:22]so where's the sin then when i tell my friend that you
[11:28]know what i had this agreement with hassan where he said that
[11:32]on their farm in cricklewood they're going to grow me strawberries for
[11:38]the year and nothing's happened i'm trying to get my money back
[11:46]let's forget profit on the profit all i want is my money
[11:49]back just give me my money you said to me bro just
[11:52]give me a certain amount so my friend goes to me and
[11:57]get the contract where's the contract i'm like what do you mean
[12:01]contract he's like he's my boy he's like yeah yeah but if
[12:05]you've got a contract obviously the contract is going to be helpful
[12:07]i'm like i've known him for years the quran wanted to address
[12:15]this point that it doesn't matter how long you've known someone they're
[12:18]close to you or they're not close to you make sure that
[12:24]everything is documented when you give somebody any amount otherwise it's going
[12:30]to come back to haunt you because we have some wonderfully generous
[12:35]people in our community that when you go to them and you
[12:40]say listen i'm in a bit of trouble do you mind helping
[12:42]me out they'll give straight away the problem is when you don't
[12:46]give back to them you become the embodiment of this other ayah
[12:49]and the quran which all of you have read you've read the
[12:56]ayah is a verse that says literally if you translate in english
[13:08]they prevent a plate or they prevent something from being given out
[13:12]these are the people who when there's charitable people in the community
[13:17]or helpful people coming to who allah has when they give them
[13:23]something they don't return it so what then happens they block this
[13:26]person from giving to others because what happens with that person he
[13:28]said torba if i ever ever give anyone any money again that
[13:33]person used to give everybody but because of one person's behavior they
[13:39]were like that's it i'm never giving money to anybody again in
[13:43]my life because i gave you that money 10 pounds you said
[13:45]to me that you'll give it to me next week why has
[13:48]it been six months how many people have come to you in
[13:51]your household and your families in the community said to you bro
[13:55]i gave this guy this much i haven't seen any of it
[13:59]back yet some people when these things happen you'll find that they
[14:04]feel very guilty that they've gone through this but the bigger problem
[14:09]is that in our systems even in the madrasa when we go
[14:13]to madarasa on a saturday or sunday there's no discussion of these
[14:16]things when you're young there isn't a discussion of if you're going
[14:21]to give someone some money make sure you follow the 19 instructions
[14:25]in surat al-baqarah there isn't most of the discussions we have when
[14:30]we go to the madras have you done we'll vote properly make
[14:32]sure that the water flows in this direction make sure that you
[14:36]know the following laws these things are good but practically speaking the
[14:41]biggest problem we face and was faced in arabian society one thousand
[14:46]four hundred years ago was in jewish areas then den is a
[14:50]killer you can't sleep when you owe someone money you can't sleep
[14:56]because you know that a that person's always gonna ask you for
[14:58]the amount b that's on the day of judgment dan deen deen
[15:03]religion accountable to allah for what he's blessed me with this religion
[15:07]then accountable to the creation of allah their generosity to me and
[15:13]i'm not ready to give back to them this ayah the longest
[15:18]ayah in the quran was trying to highlight this religion isn't about
[15:22]the prostration mark on your forehead or how many verses of quran
[15:27]you've memorized or how many ziada you've been on while you have
[15:31]hurt another human being who was kind to you when they gave
[15:35]you a certain amount that remains the reason we talk about this
[15:39]more than anything else when you look at this i am idea
[15:45]brother sister surah 2 verse 282 of the holy quran you'll see
[15:48]that this i discusses debt loans borrowing inside out let's begin what
[15:57]did i say there's two things the first thing is clearly we
[16:03]could tell this is a medium verse because most of the verse
[16:07]is not all most of the verses that begin all mankind because
[16:12]mecca you're discussing you're discussing general principles of religion whereas an ayah
[16:22]that says this is what this is an ayah in medina because
[16:25]you're talking to people in medina who are part of a community
[16:28]now of believers secondly i say what allah says when allah says
[16:35]oh you who believe i reply labaik here i am my lord
[16:40]what is it that you want to guide me on oh you
[16:44]who claim to have belief you all claim to be you go
[16:49]around saying i can't do this think it's haram for me okay
[16:54]oh you who claim to have iman is oh you who believe
[17:08]when you contract each other alone for a certain period of time
[17:14]what should you do write it point a the prophet wanted us
[17:20]to be a literate community if you notice here in medina and
[17:27]mecca you can't say everybody was amazingly literate the arabs and the
[17:30]way that they used to preserve religion they used to preserve it
[17:34]through oral tradition a lot of them were fantastic in terms of
[17:38]memory in terms of memorizing poems for example they could memorize your
[17:46]poems from any of the ja heli poetry inside out rasulullah wanted
[17:49]us to be a community where literacy was important where we all
[17:55]knew how to read we knew how to write there are some
[17:59]of the viewers out there who still cannot read arabic when they
[18:01]cannot read arabic does that mean they give up no on the
[18:04]contrary get yourself an arabic shooter and let that arabic tutor true
[18:09]to you before you know it within three months i guarantee you
[18:12]you'll be flying in arabic it's not that difficult the holy prophet
[18:16]peace be upon him family grows up in a community where even
[18:19]when they have captives for more he's like you know what release
[18:21]them as long as they can teach our people how to read
[18:25]or write because literacy is a sign of a community that is
[18:29]full of knowledge full of wisdom and yearning to grow it's a
[18:33]shame sadly our muslim communities and parts of the world people don't
[18:35]read the book the whole year they don't pick up a book
[18:40]to read and this was a religion whose first ayah read so
[18:43]here on the first level factual the importance of writing the importance
[18:48]of learning how to write i don't think there were many by
[18:51]the way solicitors or lawyers at that time in in medina so
[18:55]therefore even that person that's gonna write is gonna have to come
[19:00]from a pre respectable background because a lot of these people were
[19:04]not necessarily proficient writers that's the first thing second thing are these
[19:10]instructions from the door of or the door of recommendation is it
[19:15]wajib that if i go in to a deal with somebody else
[19:20]of a den that i'm gonna incur for example that i'm going
[19:24]to give them a particular loan or they're going to give me
[19:26]a particular loan is it wiser for me to write they say
[19:30]it's not obligatory it's recommended but highly recommended why because if me
[19:36]and yasa enter a contract and one day i say yes can
[19:39]you give me my money back yes it's like where's your proof
[19:41]how many times have you seen people in the community who's like
[19:44]there's no proof and you're like bro even you told me a
[19:45]few months ago that you took my yeah yeah but there's no
[19:47]proof he's got no proof why because they know that in court
[19:54]oral witnessing oral testimony does it really carry much weight it's not
[19:57]going to carry much weight whereas if you've written it down then
[20:00]it's going to carry a lot more weight and if it's notarized
[20:04]and if the solicitor has stamped and it's been taken in the
[20:08]right places then it's going to have a lot more weight so
[20:12]therefore here is it wide for a person why do they say
[20:14]it's not why egypt because of the next ayah the next ayah
[20:19]talks of the fact that there are some people who you're able
[20:23]to trust so in verse 283 what does the quran say the
[20:33]quran says that if one of you trusts another which means that
[20:38]there is that leeway that there are some people you trust enough
[20:42]that you don't write but what's preferred what's preferred is that a
[20:46]person writes who believe you two have entered a contract for a
[20:59]loan make sure that that loan everything is set out in stone
[21:02]everything is written down and when i say everything's written down there
[21:06]are some people just be like uh yes this amount is agreed
[21:10]that's not sufficient write in more depth the fixed time because don't
[21:14]come to me and say he hasn't paid me back i said
[21:16]what did you agree say i just said when pay me back
[21:21]when you can no set a time say for example listen within
[21:23]six months please pay us back if you can try your hardest
[21:28]even if you can on a monthly basis try your hardest let
[21:37]there be a scribe so it doesn't have to be me and
[21:43]you let there be a scribe who writes with justice what does
[21:46]it mean let there be a scribe who writes with justice a
[21:50]scribe who puts everything in its rightful place you get someone of
[21:56]course in today's language we might get our lawyer for example but
[21:59]in those days the instruction was that of the utmost importance is
[22:04]that the kaitib the one who writes the particular contract is someone
[22:10]who understands the importance of justice notice there's a difference between ada
[22:16]when it comes to for example someone who leads salah and the
[22:21]adil or the ad in this verse someone who leads salah you're
[22:24]looking more as someone who's not an open sinner for example and
[22:27]this one this is not the case this is more of a
[22:30]case of a person who understands the importance of justice between two
[22:33]people you know sometimes in our communities we always have someone who's
[22:37]known that people bring him in the middle of reconciliation sometimes people
[22:40]bring them in the middle when there's been a fight between people
[22:43]or people are getting married they bring them in between why do
[22:46]they bring them because someone will say hi then he's a just
[22:52]person either in san monsif he's a person who is equitable in
[22:55]saf adalah these are people who you know when they come there
[22:59]they are the type of people who recognize putting things in the
[23:04]right place excuse me you've taken this amount from this person okay
[23:06]you have when you've taken it how long before you pay it
[23:10]back let's write that down also when you've taken it make sure
[23:13]you're not going to use it for something else is it specifically
[23:16]for this purpose because you know someone might take money from you
[23:18]and you've told them listen um i'm going to take this money
[23:22]because i want to buy a house and then you see the
[23:25]person with a ferrari so when you see him with the ferrari
[23:26]you're like hold on a minute i gave you money to buy
[23:28]a house i got to go far because i got an investment
[23:32]for this ferrari you won't believe yes yes but the agreement here
[23:34]so whoever we get as a catib and that's why if you
[23:39]get a nasty solicitor that solicitor is going to go through certain
[23:42]fine points no one else with but in islam the person who
[23:48]does it must be someone who's just and the person who you've
[24:02]chosen as a scribe should not refuse to record this highlights how
[24:08]meritorious as well as how important it is for a person if
[24:13]they're asked to be a scribe to come and be a scribe
[24:15]because when the ayah said it meant that it is either in
[24:24]the opinion of some allah who taught you how to write use
[24:27]those skills it's a shame that if allah has given you the
[24:32]power of writing you don't write books you don't write novels you
[24:36]don't write articles if allah has given you the power of oratory
[24:41]it's a shame if you don't use it to serve allah or
[24:42]to recite or to lecture or to read quran these are gifts
[24:49]from allah subhanahu wa ta'ala so when the quran said allah subhanahu
[24:57]wa ultimately is the one who taught us how to read and
[25:04]right the second opinion is no it becomes why that one of
[25:06]you in the community when you are told that listen there is
[25:09]this being agreed would you come and be the scribe there should
[25:12]be one of you in the community should come you should not
[25:14]refuse it is important that we all help each other in these
[25:20]things otherwise why if there isn't people coming forward to help of
[25:23]course the moment one comes forward to help it doesn't need the
[25:24]whole community to come and join in of course but if one
[25:28]of us does come forward to help it saves a major problem
[25:31]of community why because sometimes when there's two people in a mosque
[25:34]who owe each other money have you seen the tension when you
[25:36]walk in go in a family where there's two cousins who owe
[25:39]each other see the tension you know you're just saying then you're
[25:42]like those two are never going to sit next to each other
[25:46]ever again because you could tell there's been a major arc between
[25:48]there's made you a major fight between them whereas if we straight
[25:52]away say listen if you two are making agreement you want me
[25:54]to write i'll be there just sort out a time and i'll
[25:57]sort it out for you try and be of those who offers
[26:00]their help then what does the quran say the one who should
[26:10]write for example should be the one who has taken the money
[26:17]you've taken the money you should be the one who writes the
[26:22]terms okay this is helping you you're in a position of difficulty
[26:28]also if it's the other guy he might for example extend a
[26:30]couple things listen we're putting it in your court we're being fair
[26:33]on you we recognize that this is also a difficult moment you
[26:38]know when you have a hajjo where you come to someone and
[26:40]you're like listen i've got hajj i've got hajjad i need 10
[26:45]grand bro i need 15 grand it's a bit of a stick
[26:48]in the face when you're like okay i'll fill out everything you
[26:50]know what no problem write it down yourself because even it's on
[26:54]his own conscience as well is that your handwriting or is that
[26:59]mine is that your email address or is that mine because later
[27:02]on you could not come to me and say i'm the one
[27:05]who changed the words i'm the one who changed the date i'm
[27:09]the one who changed the amount you write i've given you money
[27:15]you write the terms so the quran says and then how they
[27:20]continue well someone who is conscious of allah watching your writing don't
[27:31]change things don't move things you are somebody who's been asked to
[27:37]write and this by the way is for any contract in reality
[27:40]that there is your trust with the people and there is your
[27:46]position with who with allah you could scam the people but can
[27:52]you scam allah you can con the people but can you call
[27:55]allah therefore you write it but don't change anything why first you
[27:59]should have taqwa that when you're writing something like this have taqwa
[28:05]but second yeah and don't be someone who is not grateful for
[28:10]this opportunity this is a huge verse how many times you are
[28:14]seven people eight people they all say one lie don't have bro
[28:15]one lie i can't help you now bro one allah come back
[28:18]to me next year bro well i've just finished 15 businesses now
[28:22]bro i've just opened a new shop bro i've just opened something
[28:26]else that person who suddenly turns around to you and says no
[28:29]problem it's okay don't worry about it you know what come see
[28:31]me in a few days and inshallah we'll discuss it that person
[28:35]do not be someone with such a person who is ungrateful those
[28:44]are far and few between you know there are many rich people
[28:48]in the world who are extremely stingy the more money they make
[28:52]the more stingy they become giving away or they only give away
[28:56]to that which suits their mentality or suits their own not yours
[29:03]is my name on there okay i don't need my name on
[29:08]there is my family's name on there okay i don't need my
[29:10]family's name on there does it look after me in any way
[29:16]can i put it as a tax write-off but then when you
[29:21]find someone who says happy don't worry about it you know what
[29:23]you're our brother and we could tell you on difficulty come home
[29:26]it's okay don't embarrass yourself such people there are phrases in english
[29:31]by the way about such things about you know when someone's generous
[29:35]with you don't don't what's the phrase don't buy the hand that
[29:40]feeds you or you know when someone's generous don't you know don't
[29:44]take too much of their generosity what that means is that when
[29:49]someone you've seen is a kareem to you that person who's carrying
[29:53]towards you don't take advantage of it because you know the ones
[29:58]who weren't generous to you as you with them you're acting in
[30:02]a way as if they are a prophet walking and that blatantly
[30:06]that person said you go away and with the one who was
[30:11]generous with you what are you doing you're making fun of them
[30:15]and you're really taking the mick that person who was generous don't
[30:18]take advantage of it those who were stingy just because they were
[30:21]stingy or rude to you and abrupt don't look up to them
[30:24]walk away from them turn your face away from such people the
[30:28]one who's generous is the one you should be a bit more
[30:30]open with because that person stood up for you and nobody else
[30:35]did so the quran said here don't just fear allah be grateful
[30:38]when you found someone who'll give you a particular loan you went
[30:43]to so and so everyone said to you that person wha allah
[30:45]is the most richest person you go to him he's like i'm
[30:48]sorry you know the business is not doing too well this year
[30:49]we're only on about 19.6 million pound profit while i once in
[30:57]my life i was fundraising for a particular project we went to
[31:00]a house of a billionaire you know what i said to us
[31:05]times are hard i said if times are hard what do i
[31:10]do i dig a grave and just fall inside it what do
[31:13]i do he said to me times are hard we needed a
[31:17]bus to go from one of his receptions to the other that's
[31:21]how big the reception room was we needed a bus have you
[31:25]ever taken a bus in someone's house no don't worry it's only
[31:27]metaphorical we needed a bus the times are hard go to somebody
[31:37]who doesn't have as much money as him he'll say happy and
[31:40]not ju says it softly doesn't make you feel bad imams were
[31:44]known if someone needed help sometimes even from behind the door they
[31:47]give don't worry don't look at us and say allah thank you
[31:51]i want to kiss you okay we know it's hard we know
[31:54]it's hard to ask so therefore the quran said to such people
[31:57]you've taken money i need that money but i could be of
[32:23]a number of categories either i am of this which category safe
[32:28]for example maybe someone who doesn't know much about financial transaction even
[32:31]maybe someone who's a child someone who's a child by the way
[32:38]obviously they may not have expertise on these financial things they just
[32:42]need something that child the welly is mentioned here the welly of
[32:56]a child say their dads died someone might look for their grandfather
[33:00]jitter for example say the grandfather is not there for example hakamashara
[33:05]or the much will appoint somebody to be the weli from this
[33:10]person the government will either look for relatives in an islamic state
[33:12]or the hakama shut up for example let's say if there's an
[33:18]orphan and their dad's left behind 1.5 million pounds does that often
[33:22]know what they're doing with 1.5 million quid no they don't know
[33:24]so what happens then the hakama shadow can look after until the
[33:28]orphan comes to a particular age where they can look after or
[33:30]open their own bank account and look after things so here's hand
[33:33]there's different interpretations so you may find somebody who's okay so you
[33:41]might find someone who for example is in a position where they
[33:46]are let's say weak i don't know maybe someone physically challenged okay
[33:54]so that person may not be of those who understands exactly or
[33:59]be able to write this then you get someone who's a guardian
[34:02]who'll look after them so now what have we done my dear
[34:07]brothers and sisters we have got a case where there's two members
[34:11]of our community we have said to them that the person who's
[34:17]taking the loan writes it down must fear we recognize that sometimes
[34:26]a person may take this on who might be a child maybe
[34:28]mentally handicapped maybe someone who for example doesn't know about financial transactions
[34:33]these are all clear the quran then added another thing what else
[34:44]because i might write this down and then one day you're like
[34:48]remember we have a contract you're like which contract you're like here's
[34:52]a contract i can't remember it you're like bro it's dated 16th
[34:57]of june 2020.
[34:59]it's written clearly here that by today's date for example april whatever
[35:05]2021 you are going to pay me back is that where's the
[35:08]witnesses and the human being will ask for witnesses even if you're
[35:16]rasulullah something from the arab and the arab then later on when
[35:26]the prophet says you know what i'll give you your money and
[35:30]the commodity and then the arabs like i can't remember you ever
[35:34]paying me and people were asked to testify for the prophet and
[35:37]the prophet himself turned around and he's like you know that would
[35:40]i lie the person said well yeah where's your witnesses he's like
[35:45]i'm the prophet of god so where's your witnesses until who came
[35:54]in and they called him the shahada detainers what the man who's
[35:58]one witnessing equals two because he came he said you guys doubt
[36:00]rasulullah rasool allah i believed in him on things i cannot see
[36:08]god the day of judgment prophets who came before you think i'm
[36:11]gonna doubt him about the sale of a camel for example witnesses
[36:15]are vital and so the ayah look we're still on the same
[36:19]ayah we're still going through instruction after instruction look how long the
[36:25]eye is witnesses are vital some get two male witnesses from your
[36:31]community let them come together and let them witness over this you
[36:36]know sometimes you say can you sign here can you sign here
[36:38]two witnesses let's move on because we know very well that people
[36:42]will find a way of saying no one saw this were you
[36:46]there you weren't there so the quran said not only do you
[36:50]both write how much how long the loan is for but you
[36:53]also have two witnesses i ask you how many of us would
[36:57]not have problems in our community if we've done this step by
[37:02]step how many of us just oral verbal and we caused headache
[37:06]after headache what you do is you got your witnesses probably one
[37:33]of the most controversial sections in the quran is when people ask
[37:36]how comes one man equals two woman we always get this question
[37:44]why is it that the testimony or the witnessing of two women
[37:51]is equal to one man and you have a clamor where are
[37:57]the rights for women in islam look at how the woman is
[38:00]looked at this is not a question of rights it's a question
[38:03]of responsibilities there's a difference many people fall in the trap of
[38:08]this question that how comes two witnesses female equals one male the
[38:13]first point that has to be made clear is it's not a
[38:18]question of rights it's a question of responsibility if you want to
[38:21]talk to me about rights of woman in the quran i can
[38:24]give you a hundred other ayahs of rights of woman this is
[38:26]not a right of a this is a responsibility that make up
[38:29]may come remember we said it's not wide to do these things
[38:32]these are only what musta have for example they're not wajib in
[38:41]fact it is a something highly recommended therefore even when you're gonna
[38:47]get the shahood normally who would you get as witnesses you're gonna
[38:50]get two of your friends for example two males in the community
[38:52]hardly ever are you gonna have this situation but it could happen
[38:58]in the area of bearing witness and the area of providing testimony
[39:04]because this surah or this verse i call it a sword because
[39:09]it's so long this verse is a verse that takes us from
[39:14]the beginning of writing to the end of providing testimony the quran
[39:22]didn't straightaway say you get one male witness or two female it
[39:26]said you get two male why because it knew that most of
[39:32]the people involved in finance in medina were what were male someone
[39:38]says she was a great businesswoman number one senator khadija lived in
[39:43]mecca never lived in madina these verses are in medina number two
[39:46]say that khadijah herself never was involved in the transaction her agents
[39:50]were in the transactions number three doesn't represent every female on this
[40:00]earth the responsibility of being called in to a sensitive issue like
[40:08]an agreement between two parties and knowing that one day there's a
[40:12]chance hello can you come to court why how many of us
[40:20]want to go to court people shiver when they hear cool i
[40:21]don't want to go court bro don't tell me don't tell me
[40:25]court the only time you go to cause of your force because
[40:29]you were driving so fast you got a letter says you have
[40:32]to come to court you get there you dress in a suit
[40:33]you never want in your life you act polite the guy still
[40:38]gives you a ban and you move on as you can tell
[40:41]still has affected me in medina most of the financial transactions because
[40:50]this eye is on what what's this i on salah it's on
[40:53]psalm it's on hajj it's on den most of the june most
[40:57]of the loans or the debts that were incurred were they incurred
[41:03]by men or woman men someone says today the head of this
[41:08]investment back or the head of this law firm things have changed
[41:12]completely i'm like no doubt i don't doubt it but even those
[41:17]ladies who work in these places sometimes there are some pressure situations
[41:22]which are hard to face look ladies have been given gifts by
[41:27]allah men have been given gifts by allah but even with the
[41:33]emotional aspect of our makeup as human beings sometimes we still need
[41:37]the support of another human being in a difficult situation be we
[41:40]a man or be we a woman a girl could be on
[41:45]the verge of divorce but she'll still want to call her friend
[41:47]you know what i'm going through a heart would you come and
[41:50]support me a girl may be on the verge of divorce she
[41:53]wants her mom to be with her when they're talking to the
[41:56]imam about the issue notice here that firstly we're not talking about
[42:01]women's rights and islam when a person says what's this quran of
[42:05]yours one man equals two one two women equal one no no
[42:06]no no no firstly this is not about the rights of women
[42:09]it's about the responsibility that comes in a sensitive issue of witnessing
[42:13]and providing testimony later on with this issue in a male-oriented dominated
[42:21]arabia and i would say in this con in this world there's
[42:24]seven continents i would say definitely five of them it's still male
[42:28]dominated many of the jobs and many of the financial issues the
[42:36]responsibility that came with this was a huge burden the responsibility that
[42:43]came with it so then when the scholars were looking at that
[42:48]particular ayah and when they saw the section which said what the
[42:52]section that said my people ask this question what does it mean
[43:19]what does that mean because the first part of the eye is
[43:29]clear the first part of the ayah said that if you can
[43:31]call to witness two witnesses from amongst your men and if there
[43:36]isn't two men then take a man and two women of those
[43:38]you approve so that one of the two woman can x the
[43:44]other what's the x what does it mean when it says ant
[43:49]what is some said so that one of the woman can help
[43:56]the other one if what help the other one if she forgets
[44:06]so in english remind correct so they said tavilla means if one
[44:18]of them forgets the other one will remind because it's a pressure
[44:25]cooker situation but i couldn't understand how the word means forget have
[44:33]you ever had anyone said say to you that you know what
[44:38]i've forgotten you valettic or the latex no i've forgotten you how
[44:43]would you sometimes hear someone say i've forgotten you this method so
[44:50]therefore what could it mean i know that like also refers to
[44:59]meth for example that's deviated astray so maybe here it's the case
[45:23]literally that the pressure is so much in being involved in a
[45:28]context until today there are multi-million pound deals in hedge funds and
[45:33]banks which are big pressure cooker moments it doesn't have your man
[45:37]or oman but in some cases it can be daunting the quran
[45:40]said in your responsibility because it's heavy and because you may be
[45:44]diverted so we'll get a second female alongside you who will help
[45:49]bring you back but this is in the context of finance that
[45:56]the witnessing of one man two woman what happens if you have
[46:03]a case where you have the witnessing of a man against his
[46:10]wife is does she need someone else to support her so it
[46:15]becomes two witnesses against one say there's an accusation of adultery or
[46:20]is it one one go to surah 24.
[46:25]surah 24 surah surah 24 of the quran right at the beginning
[46:33]of surah 24 if you find the page just call it out
[46:35]350 a centum you go there there's an accusation which is leveled
[46:45]here verse number six of surah 24 shows you that not in
[46:56]all instances is the witnessing of the female it requires two females
[47:01]for one male here is one of the examples where it's one
[47:04]male one female actually the female trumps the male how well for
[47:19]those who accuse their wives while they have no witnesses except themselves
[47:26]then the testimony of one of them shall be taken four times
[47:30]by god welch and the fifth one he says what fifth because
[47:42]you know normally for adult you need four witnesses so he's given
[47:45]his four statements yes and the fifth one four for the normal
[47:52]witnesses and then the fifth one is his one on the liar
[47:57]okay verse number eight it shall avert punishment from her if she
[48:12]testifies four times swearing by allah that he is a liar and
[48:18]allah and the fifth oath to be that the wrath of god
[48:26]beyond her if he be truthful he said my missus stabbed me
[48:33]behind my back she's committed zinna behind my back four times like
[48:37]you want four witnesses i say it four times and the fifth
[48:40]is from me she replies by saying and i reply to his
[48:43]four and the fifth is from me nothing happens to her if
[48:48]it's the case that's his witnessing and her she requires two how
[48:51]comes here one one and she trumps his so you don't always
[48:58]have it as a case that one witnessing only here in the
[49:00]verse of finance because it's a pressure situation which many of the
[49:07]ladies were not in let's go back so what does it say
[49:08]and mind you my dear versus i even remember uh i think
[49:12]shaykh may allah bless his soul he used to look at this
[49:15]as a tab body issue allah has dictated this there's nothing else
[49:17]we could say allah knows the wisdom behind this because you know
[49:20]sometimes we want to go into falsehood of every ayah we want
[49:22]to give answers and people once said ammar to give something that
[49:26]suits them and you want something that suits you and she wants
[49:28]something but i cannot give you an answer that suits all of
[49:31]you in life sometimes my lord you said salat in bhagavad gita
[49:38]i haven't got a clue why you said aisha is for i
[49:40]don't know why you said federers too i don't know why taboo
[49:44]but sometimes even in our history the hadith of one lady is
[49:48]bigger than the hadith of a thousand men sometimes when fatherhood is
[49:53]i would say something there's a thousand who don't come near her
[49:56]truthfulness so it doesn't apply to all cases we agree let's go
[49:59]back so then the quran subhanallah one ayah of the quran and
[50:04]i'm midway through and the camera crew are ready after me let's
[50:12]continue when the quran then said those of you who've been asked
[50:17]now to provide testimony come forward don't refuse you're summoned for evidence
[50:30]bless the soul used to talk of the fact that you if
[50:33]you are to bear testimony then you cannot refuse you are asked
[50:39]you have to go okay don't say you know what that you
[50:55]know whether it's a transaction small big i'm too tired to write
[51:00]it right right whatever the transaction is right there's a stress on
[51:04]this don't come and say bro it's just what is this 500
[51:07]quid he's gonna give it back to me six months i don't
[51:09]need five and 500 quid in six months might become the most
[51:11]important 500 of your life right don't shy away or say bro
[51:15]i can't be bothered bro i've known him for years sometimes the
[51:17]ones you know for years are the ones who end up stabbing
[51:22]you okay valikum what does it say here it says this is
[51:32]better this procedure is more equitable with allah it will bring justice
[51:38]this procedure of writing because whether you're just witnessing your one day
[51:43]may have to be a witness in court so you might as
[51:47]well write everything down so that in court we don't have six
[51:49]months court case they'll be finished in one day do you agree
[51:51]and so that's what else so that as well so that you
[51:58]don't forget as well because you may forget at least if you've
[52:00]written everything down it's dated and it's notarized and it's stamped you
[52:03]could not say bro i come in because some of us can't
[52:06]remember two days ago let alone if it's an issue of a
[52:10]fight between two people in the community from three years ago so
[52:12]the quran therefore said what said that this is the best thing
[52:17]for you because it brings you nearness to the confirmation that you
[52:21]won't be falling in any kind of doubt thereafter unless of course
[52:40]give me a hundred thousand pounds and i'll give me a year
[52:45]or two or three until the agriculture or the farm grows i'll
[52:49]give you back the amount there's a form of chicharron which is
[52:54]having here there you know what i bought a car with you
[52:56]how much you said to me saying that twelve thousand pound is
[52:58]the price of the car hey bro is there 12 grand agreed
[53:01]yes even with that it's not a sin if you don't write
[53:05]but it's better if you're right right have been following we have
[53:12]both agreed that this transaction although done on the spot it's not
[53:15]a transaction over an investment for example or something that comes later
[53:18]there and then right sold for this amount okay that make sure
[53:34]you get your witnesses as well on this bro come with me
[53:38]i'm going to buy a car just be a witness that you
[53:41]saw what happened or be a witness to the way the car
[53:43]looked do you agree okay and don't end up doing what and
[53:58]don't end up hurting the one who is a scribe or a
[54:00]witness because you know what happens sometimes you coerce someone into doing
[54:05]it you can't sometimes someone travels all the way to do it
[54:11]you don't pay sometimes you will get death threats is it true
[54:13]that you were involved in this deal and you're a witness if
[54:22]you do this then you go out of the obedience of allah
[54:26]allah when someone bears test you know sometimes you provide testimony of
[54:30]court and then people are like did you hear this guy do
[54:34]not threaten someone don't coerce someone don't mock someone they've been asked
[54:40]to give witness in a court don't start coming and attacking because
[54:45]this becomes a sign of afar someone who goes out of the
[54:49]obedience of allah people in the world of mysticism love this ayah
[55:06]because they say if you have taqwa of allah your teacher becomes
[55:11]allah they say if you want to see the highest level spirituality
[55:16]it is when someone is conscious of allah's presence allah becomes their
[55:22]teacher say allah becomes your teacher doesn't mean that suddenly he'll just
[55:27]be like because you've got you've memorized all the quran you know
[55:30]all the books of fair no rather allah gives you maharifa insight
[55:36]where you see things clearer than others and that's why the next
[55:51]ayah just to continue in kuntum allah suffering what do you do
[55:58]you're on a journey you don't find someone to write everything down
[56:02]to not take note of the pledge then you take something as
[56:05]collateral can be done then you're like bro you know what we
[56:07]can't conclude everything now i can't give you everything now take this
[56:11]as collateral so all of these points were to highlight to us
[56:16]that most of our problems in our communities would not be there
[56:19]if we first wrote everything down if we got witnesses if the
[56:24]witnesses were just in the eyes of allah if we were grateful
[56:26]to allah and if we made sure that whether it's 10 pounds
[56:29]or whether it's a thousand pounds i'm not gonna deny in islamic
[56:33]history sometimes you could do all of that and they still say
[56:35]fedex is not yours it could happen but one thing imam al-hussein
[56:40]always wanted was that those people in my army are not people
[56:43]who owe people money rather the people in my army are people
[56:46]who don't have a single debt on their shoulders to the extent
[56:50]of muslims insisted that a true hosseini is someone even if there's
[56:56]a certain amount left they make sure that in their will whether
[56:59]it's um sad or ibn ziad make sure you pay this off
[57:03]for me before i pass away in this holy month of ramadan
[57:06]we pray for all those who have debts on their shoulders yeah
[57:10]allah bless them and ya allah bless those who are finding difficulties
[57:13]in paying back their debts be it 10 pounds will be more
[57:15]there are many who face this trial of debt and we ask
[57:19]allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to help them in this holy month we
[57:22]continue tomorrow [Music] [Music] [Music] imam hussein development and relief foundation once
[58:24]again are running the ramadan food basket campaign each food basket contains
[58:31]food essentials such as flour rice oil meats vegetables tea lemons and
[58:37]not forgetting dates each food basket is only 20 pounds or 25
[58:42]us dollars i can feed a family of four for up to
[58:46]10 days [Music] you
