[0:14]muhammad in the past few nights we spoke about the mechanisms that

[0:46]enable us to develop taqwa protection from sin and resistance from the

[0:52]temptations of the dunya and we mentioned four altogether we mentioned fasting

[0:59]and basiira and the fear of allah azzawajal and the love of

[1:06]allah collectively these four factors they enable us to achieve taqwa and

[1:13]the end result of taqwa on the day of judgment as we

[1:16]mentioned the holy quran says that whoever fears allah azzawajal and he

[1:22]resists the hawa wa nahan nafsa anil hawa the holy quran says

[1:28]that the end will be jannah paradise for those individuals that have

[1:33]taqwa but the quran also tells us the quran shows us that

[1:36]there are other benefits to taqwa in this life there are other

[1:42]benefits to the individuals that have taqwa for example the quran demonstrates

[1:49]that one of the benefits of taqwa having this ability of taqwa

[1:52]that we spoke about for the last few nights is that allah

[1:54]azzawajal will accept your deeds allah azzawajal accepts the deeds of someone

[2:02]that has taqwa versus the one that does not have taqwa allah

[2:07]does not accept their deeds where does allah demonstrate this he demonstrates

[2:10]it when he tells us the story of the two sons of

[2:15]adam allah says tell them the story of the two sons of

[2:25]adam is they both gave a sacrifice for allah azzawajal allah accepted

[2:38]the sacrifice of ahabil but he rejected the sacrifice of kaabi and

[2:43]the hadith tell us habil he wants and he chose the best

[2:47]sheep that he could find you know the fat one the expensive

[2:52]one the good one and he offered it as sacrifice versus kabil

[2:55]he went and he chose the worst plant the cheapest plant he

[2:59]said because it's going to get burned anyway because that's how allah

[3:03]would accept a sacrifice he would send the fire and it would

[3:07]burn the accepted sacrifice so he he took something chiba was about

[3:12]to die and he offered that as a sacrifice so obviously there's

[3:15]a difference between their sacrifices so allah accepted the sacrifice of habit

[3:20]but not kabhi when kabil saw that he was rejected in habil

[4:15]allah does not accept the act of someone that does not have

[4:18]taqwa so what this verse basically means brothers and sisters is that

[4:24]allah azzawajal in order for him to accept you need taqwa now

[4:28]what does this mean there are two meanings to this the first

[4:33]meaning to this is that our taqwa not only does it prevent

[4:39]you from sins but it also prevents your sins from destroying your

[4:45]good deeds because sins they have the capability to destroy your good

[4:49]deeds you do good deeds and then your sins destroy them the

[4:53]one that has taqwa has taqwa will protect his good deeds it's

[4:57]like a shield protection so that his good deeds his ahmad will

[5:01]not be destroyed by the sins versus someone that does not have

[5:05]taqwa his sins will destroy his good deeds the holy prophet sallallahu

[5:11]alaihi mundy told his companions this he told them whoever says allah

[5:21]will plant a tree for you in jenna whoever says subhanallah allah

[5:25]will plant a tree in jannah whoever says allahu akbar alhamdulillah any

[5:30]of these four thickers allah will plant a tree for jinnah in

[5:34]jannah one of the companions he told the prophet we have so

[5:42]many trees in jannah because we can sit and endlessly say subhanallah

[5:45]alhamdulillah that's four trees say that 500 times a day seven days

[5:51]a week 30 days a month every every month and throughout your

[5:56]lifetime you would have billions of trees in jannah so he was

[6:00]very happy basically expressing that it's so easy to build trees in

[6:05]jannah the prophet then gave him an alert he gave him a

[6:06]warning he told him but be careful not to send the fire

[6:11]and burn all those trees ow and then the prophet read this

[6:19]verse he said allah says in the holy quran do not invalidate

[6:25]be careful not to invalidate your good deeds because even if you've

[6:30]done the good deed you can invalidate it and one way you

[6:34]invalidate it is through sin so that's why taqwa brothers and sisters

[6:38]is so important it's so important one day he took his companions

[6:45]to the graveyard and he started to speak with the dead he

[6:48]started to speak to them to teach a lesson to his companions

[6:51]so he told them he tells them look when you died you

[7:04]no longer had news of what happened to the dunya right i

[7:06]will tell you what happened since you died as for your houses

[7:10]they were sold other people moved into them as for your money

[7:14]it was distributed to other people as for your spouses they moved

[7:19]on and married other people so they forgot about you this is

[7:23]what i bring you from this dunya to you and then he

[7:27]asked this he said this what news do you bring from that

[7:35]world from the underground i brought you news from the dunya because

[7:37]now you're disconnected what news do you bring me from the underground

[7:41]from the from the barzah now of course they can't reply so

[7:45]the imam alaihi he replied on their behalf he told his companions

[7:52]if they were given the ability by allah to speak they would

[7:57]all say the same thing what's the best thing in that next

[7:59]life the best provision for you to take to your next life

[8:07]is the best thing you can take if they could speak they

[8:11]would tell me they would tell us human beings the most valuable

[8:14]entity the most valuable deed you can take to the grave to

[8:18]your grave is your taqwa meaning stay away from haram it's better

[8:22]than any other good deed you could do it's better than salah

[8:26]it's better than salam it's better than hajj it's better than it's

[8:29]better than any good deed you can do why because without it

[8:33]your good deeds can all be destroyed by sins so taqwa is

[8:38]what keeps your good deeds intact he says one day i went

[8:48]to visit ali so we started to speak about deeds you know

[8:50]people doing good deeds some do a lot some don't do a

[8:54]lot so then he says i told the imam you know i

[8:57]feel bad because i'm not a person that does a lot of

[9:01]good deeds i'm lazy you know some of us we're lazy we

[9:03]don't feel like doing the musl right they're boring we have we

[9:07]want to sit on our phones and relax a lot is difficult

[9:12]i've just had food is too long right we're lazy we don't

[9:18]do too many good deeds he said that i am one of

[9:25]those individuals i'm lazy unfortunately so i don't do too many good

[9:31]deeds and imam al-salam told him this he told him he said

[9:39]doing a little with taqwa is much better than doing a lot

[9:44]of good deeds but without taqwa so al-mufatlal asked him what do

[9:49]you mean he told him the imam told him there are some

[9:51]people who do so many good deeds every muslim they do them

[9:56]he's always at the masjid he never misses every muslim he does

[10:01]the recommended prayers direct every recommended act in the book he does

[10:05]it but at the same time the imam says at the same

[10:12]time that he does all those good deeds he does haram as

[10:17]well he does haram he does every hara he does he does

[10:18]nami he lies he looks at haram he listens to music he

[10:22]does every haram with the good deeds this is one individual and

[10:28]then there's another individual who's lazy he doesn't do any good deeds

[10:31]he rarely he just does the wajib and maybe some mustahab but

[10:33]however he does not do haram the imam says this individual is

[10:38]much better than the first this individual is much better than the

[10:41]first and you know this is logical think about it you know

[10:46]with yourself imagine you had two sons the first son is very

[10:52]loving he's always helping you he says nice words he buys you

[10:56]gifts he always extends his hand to help you he's always there

[11:00]right but at the same time he's the biggest troublemaker every couple

[11:02]of days they call from school they found drugs with him he's

[11:08]skipping class he's been arrested you get called by the police come

[11:11]and bail him out he causes you a huge headache but at

[11:13]the same time he's so nice he brings you gifts this is

[11:17]one son and on the other hand you have another son who's

[11:21]cold he doesn't really ask about you too much he's always in

[11:23]his room doing his own thing right he's on his playstation or

[11:27]on his computer he doesn't ask too much about you but at

[11:30]the same time he never gets in trouble never ever he gets

[11:34]in trouble which one is better in your eyes the first one

[11:38]or the second the second one right you'll tell the first one

[11:40]don't bring me gifts don't say no nice things don't help me

[11:46]just please just don't bother me don't cause this headache for me

[11:48]every couple of days they call me and you know you're embarrassing

[11:52]me in front of people i don't want all this good that

[11:55]you want that you're giving me just obey me respect me that's

[11:59]all i want this is exactly how allah azza is allah says

[12:02]instead of doing all these good deeds and with it you sin

[12:06]and sin and sin stop sinning and stop doing those good deeds

[12:08]that's much better for me now of course the best thing to

[12:11]do would be to stop sinning and to do the good deeds

[12:15]but if it was either or allah says it's better for you

[12:17]to stop sinning and doing less good deeds than doing a lot

[12:22]of good deeds what with the lot of sinning why because those

[12:25]sins will destroy your good deeds allah says this in the holy

[12:31]quran he says says on the day of judgment certain people they

[12:41]will be resurrected with so much good deeds a mountain of good

[12:44]deeds they're so happy they're so proud all these hasanat that they

[12:48]did in the dunya now it's the time for hisab remember we

[12:51]spoke about the hisab allah to count all those good deeds but

[12:56]then allah azza instead will come to their good deeds and he

[13:01]will destroy all of it will obliterate all your good deeds do

[13:06]you know how awful your you will feel how terrible that person

[13:10]would feel all those years of hard work allah isn't going to

[13:14]count it for me you know there's sometimes you you do you

[13:18]know you do something in this in this in this in this

[13:22]life that you're supposed to be rewarded for but then you realize

[13:24]that you know you did something wrong right um like there's some

[13:28]tests where they tell you you have to bring a blue colored

[13:30]pen or i don't know what color then you bring the wrong

[13:34]pet you spent so many hours only to know that you've wasted

[13:36]your time you've done the wrong thing so they will feel terrible

[13:40]because they did all that hard work and allah will not count

[13:43]it for them al-imam he speaks about this verse he says that

[13:48]the problem with these individuals wasn't with their good deeds their good

[13:51]deeds were good because there are some people you think that they're

[13:56]very holy on the day of judgment allah will not give them

[13:58]credit because their acts were not really good it was all riya

[14:02]for example riya it's all for recognition and praise and he wants

[14:06]people to speak highly of him that's why he gave to the

[14:11]masjid that's why he's always that's why he's always doing this muslim

[14:13]because he wants the recognition from the people such act allah will

[14:18]not give him any good deeds these individuals also on the idea

[14:21]of judgment allah will destroy all their deeds why because their deeds

[14:26]are flawed to begin with but al-imam al-sadiq says there are others

[14:29]their actions are pure he says they are whiter then he gives

[14:34]a you know an example of why dress people would wear that

[14:37]that day and it was so white so it's wider than ice

[14:41]for example it's pure there's nothing wrong with it so why is

[14:46]allah not counting these deeds why is he erasing them taking away

[14:49]stripping them from these good deeds the imam says because they did

[14:53]not have taqwa in this life they did not have taqwa any

[14:58]time the dunya would tempt them with haram with sins they would

[15:03]indulge they would go after the dunya those sins of theirs are

[15:07]what destroyed their good deeds you know how awful this individual would

[15:12]feel all those times i went to ziyarah i went to hajj

[15:14]i went to umrah i donated i prayed the one hundred like

[15:20]as layla that's coming up in a few nights allah azza will

[15:22]show you at first and then he will strip you out why

[15:25]because you used to do sins you had no taqwa you want

[15:31]me to accept your you have to build taqwa so this shows

[15:35]us brothers and sisters the importance of taqwa someone that does not

[15:38]have taqwa not only is he sinning but he's destroying his good

[15:43]deeds it's like he's done nothing so we have to be f

[15:45]very careful brothers and sisters and like i said let's try to

[15:49]focus on these four factors that i mentioned that enable us to

[15:52]achieve taqwa so that we can resist the dunya we can resist

[15:55]the haram and one of those brothers and sisters sins that have

[16:00]a great damage on our good deeds because there are some sins

[16:04]that have more damage on good deeds than others one of those

[16:06]sins that have you know great damage on our good deeds is

[16:12]backbiting brothers and sisters backbiting is from kaba'ir it's from the kabba

[16:19]meaning the big sins and backbiting is when we mention someone behind

[16:23]their backs in a negative way right we make fun of someone

[16:26]we criticize you know negatively criticize someone in a disrespectful way behind

[16:33]their backs or we expose someone we know someone has a secret

[16:36]and we go and we expose that person secret this is called

[16:38]riba according to the hadith one of the consequences of riba is

[16:45]that it destroys your good deeds it takes away your good deeds

[16:48]there's a hadith from the holy prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam about this

[16:51]and the hadith the prophet says listen carefully he says on the

[16:57]day of judgment allah azza will bring someone to the hisab to

[17:00]hold them accountable for the reckoning and he will give him his

[17:05]book of amal he will give him zamal so this person will

[17:09]take his book of now is this a real book is this

[17:15]a digital book some say maybe it's an ipad for example right

[17:16]who knows maybe it's something that we don't haven't even discovered yet

[17:21]invented yet so it's something that has everything recorded in it so

[17:24]he opens it he starts reading and he does not find his

[17:29]hassanat he goes where's my weight i went to hajj four times

[17:32]it says i didn't go to hajj i went to ziyarah az

[17:35]seven times it says i went once what is this so you

[17:42]start to complain to the angels and you tell them my amal

[17:44]are missing so you want to file for missing amal you know

[17:49]sometimes in this dunya you file for missing credits like some people

[17:53]they didn't get the stimulus this past year they had to file

[17:55]you know to get that missing stimulus or sometimes you know when

[17:59]you fly with an airline they don't credit you with the miles

[18:03]you have to go on their website there's a form you have

[18:05]to file for missing miles right because sometimes they make mistakes and

[18:09]they don't give you what you're entitled to so now you think

[18:13]it's the same thing allah made a mistake allah forgot to put

[18:17]some of your good deeds in your book of so you complain

[18:21]to the angels but the angels tell you allah azzawajal does not

[18:28]forget nor does allah make mistakes this is the dunya used to

[18:32]go and file for missing credit but if you don't see it

[18:36]that means it's not there that means you will not get it

[18:38]so then you start complaining where's all my good deeds i donated

[18:43]during this you know this fundraiser i prayed the one hundred raqqa

[18:47]aslaya qatar why isn't it in my book the angels tell you

[18:49]remember in the dunya used to sit in backbite used to do

[18:53]reba he used to sit and criticize fulan and speak against fulan

[18:56]and gossip and expose and and disrespect people behind their backs do

[19:02]you remember allah azzawajal took your good deeds and he donated them

[19:07]to that individual do you know how terrible that person will feel

[19:11]that oh my goodness not only were they taken away from me

[19:15]but they were given to the person i hated because usually we

[19:18]do riba of the person we envy we have hassa towards that

[19:21]person we have envy so that's why we backbite them not only

[19:25]do i hate him but now my good deeds are being taken

[19:30]to him so be careful brothers and sisters next time we open

[19:32]our mouths and we start doing griba because every word of riba

[19:36]back by that means i am donating my good deeds to whom

[19:39]to the person i am backbiting the prophet says this is one

[19:44]person and then the prophet says another person on the day of

[19:48]judgment allah will give him his book he will flip through his

[19:51]book and he will notice there's so much good deeds he hasn't

[19:54]done there's good deeds wren in this book that he never did

[19:58]wait a minute i went to hajj 15 times i didn't go

[20:01]to hatch 50 donated 20 000 what is this he's happy you

[20:05]know usually when we're missing credit we object but if we're given

[20:08]extra credit we try to stay quiet we don't want to say

[20:12]it right you know there's a story about this with joha he's

[20:15]a fictional character uh in that in arabic that they usually mentioned

[20:21]to teach lessons so they say joha one day he went and

[20:27]he asked his neighbor for a cooking pot he told him can

[20:32]i loan you know can you lend me your borrow your cooking

[20:34]pot because i want to cook he told him yes take this

[20:37]cooking pot he took he took it he cooked some food and

[20:44]then the next day he gave it back so a couple of

[20:46]days when he afford when he gave it back he put a

[20:50]small cooking pot in it he put a smaller cooking pot in

[20:52]it and he gave it so the neighbor he said what is

[20:56]the second one the smaller one he said your cooking pot last

[20:58]night i forgot to tell you it gave birth gave birth to

[21:03]the small cooking pot it's yours so he said really wow he

[21:08]didn't say anything he's getting an extra cooking pot why would he

[21:13]object right so he said thank you so much i got an

[21:14]extra cooking pot johan was smart this was bait for his neighbor

[21:19]a while later he went and he asked him for his biggest

[21:23]cooking pot expensive one that he had it was nice you know

[21:27]there's probably crystals all around it he told him can i borrow

[21:29]this one so this man thought you know what let me give

[21:31]it to him because i'm going to get another baby with it

[21:33]so he took this other cooking pot the big one joha he

[21:37]never gave it back the neighbor is waiting one day two days

[21:41]five days he goes knocks the door of johan where is my

[21:45]cooking pa he tells him oh i forgot to tell you allah

[21:48]died when he told him it died he started to bash him

[21:51]and swear john what do you mean it died this is this

[21:54]is a cooking pot it's not a living thing how can i

[21:58]die he told them when i told you that it gave birth

[22:00]you said nothing but when i told you it died now you

[22:03]want to talk logical this is how we human beings are when

[22:05]it's gained we don't say anything but when we're losing we're so

[22:08]you know loud and we want to object and we want our

[22:13]help so this individual he sees so many good deeds that he

[22:16]has not done he thinks it's incorrectly placed in his book of

[22:22]ahmad but this individual turns out to be fair he doesn't stay

[22:25]quiet so he tells the angels what is this i didn't do

[22:27]these good deeds this must be the wrong book there is a

[22:29]big mix up because there are so many good deeds in this

[22:33]book that you gave me that i never did what is this

[22:37]so they tell him no this is yours how is that mine

[22:39]they tell them allah azzawajal he took the deeds of individuals that

[22:45]used to back by you in the dunya you had enemies people

[22:48]that were envious of you they used to back by you do

[22:54]riba allah took their good deeds and he gave it to you

[22:56]so enjoy the good the hard work of other people other people

[23:00]do the hard work but you're the one that enjoys why because

[23:03]they gifted and donated their good deeds by doing backbiting so the

[23:10]holy quran says if you want allah to accept your good deeds

[23:16]make sure you have taqwa you focus on taqwa don't say allahim

[23:19]some people they'll do the muslim but when it comes to the

[23:25]muharram they will say allah is merciful for giving inshallah i will

[23:27]as forgiveness do not say that because allah may discredit you from

[23:31]all your good deeds and he will not count it for you

[23:35]and the regret will be unbelievable on the day of judgement and

[23:38]that's why i remember it's the month of ramadan right now there's

[23:41]so many mustahab to do right imam ali alayhi as the prophet

[23:44]when he spoke about ramadan in the merits of ramadan i mentioned

[23:50]that sermon in the beginning of the lectures he asked the prophet

[23:54]what's the best thing to do there's so many things to do

[23:57]ramadan has so much musl so much reading quran allah gives you

[24:01]for each verse the tawab of the quran for each two salats

[24:04]as you pray allah multiplies it by seventy so many duas it's

[24:08]must have to give sadaqah so much muslim which one is the

[24:13]best in the eyes of allah azzawajal the prophet told him ya

[24:18]ali the best thing you can do in ramadan is to stay

[24:25]away from haram warah is what is a form of taqwa when

[24:29]you stay away from haram when you have the immunity from so

[24:33]try to develop wara and taqwa in the month of ramadan and

[24:36]it's the best thing that you can do to stay away from

[24:40]haram because that will build your taqwa and ultimately protect your good

[24:44]deeds so brothers and sisters is ramadan let us try to focus

[24:47]on this point if i don't do any good deeds this ramadan

[24:50]accept one thing i am able to eliminate a bad habit that

[24:55]i have a haram habit there is a haram habit that i

[25:00]have this ramadan i successfully eliminated that habit if that's the only

[25:03]thing i was able to do in ramadan you had a successful

[25:07]ramadan even if you did not read quran you did not even

[25:11]come leila but you were able to eliminate haram from your life

[25:14]then you had the best of ramadan so let us all focus

[25:18]on this brothers and sisters so that we can attain taqwa and

[25:23]we can benefit from the numerous outcomes of taqwa we ask allah

[25:26]to forgive us of our sins to grant us the ability that

[25:31]we can attain taqwa and to accept our al-hadawa and alhamdulillah muhammad
