Sustenance is guaranteed but knowledge is not - Qazwini
Seeking knowledge is a greater obligation than seeking wealth. Imam Ali says the Allah SWT has guaranteed our sustenance. We should still work hard, but we must realize that Allah has determined the wealth for us and how beneficial that money is for us. Some people have so much wealth but it has no benefit for them. Singers suffer the highest rates of depression and suicide. They are really wealthy but it has no benefit for them. Imam Ali says in a hadith: “Being exposed constantly to singing (music) leads to poverty.” The type of poverty that Imam Ali is referring to is not just about money. Singers don’t have a good quality of life and have voids in their life. Most singers don’t have a stable life. In the UK, 19% of the population suffer from depression. Amongst musicians in the UK, 71% suffer depression! Hence when Allah says sustenance, this means quality of life. Any wealth that has become a burden for us is not sustenance. Having good children is also one type of sustenance. Working more is not going to increase the beneficial wealth that we have. There are many factors that increase sustenance. One of them is being awake between fajr and sunrise. This is the time when angel Mikail distributes sustenance. Imam Ali then says that when it comes to seeking knowledge, Allah SWT doesn’t guarantee it to us. Knowledge is stashed away with its keepers and we must search and acquire it. We must pursue it.#Hawza #Seminary #Alhujjah #islam #shia #Qazwini
