[1:01]la rioja beem sala allah muhammad wa ala muhammad chapter 12 of
[1:12]the holy quran Surat Yusuf is nothing short of a masterpiece of
[1:17]course the entire Quran is a literary masterpiece but specifically chapter number
[1:29]12 so let's Yusuf which is chronologically arranged the story of Yusuf
[1:36]and serves as a model for a number of Islamic principles and
[1:46]values such as patience forbearance much of the artistic commentary that's found
[1:55]on the Quran pertains to this chapter principles of management leadership and
[2:01]governance are also to be found in this chapter and Allah subhana
[2:07]WA Ta'ala says raka dhalika McKenna Lucifer fill our McKenna comes from
[2:16]the verb Tim Kean which means to empower to give power to
[2:25]someone or to establish and the verse or the word appears a
[2:28]number of times in the Holy Quran for instance in chapter 22
[2:36]allah subhanho wa taala describes the believers they say that power when
[2:41]someone is given power power reveals your true self power reveals your
[2:51]true nature so a forgiving person by nature will remain a forgiving
[2:58]person even if they attain power a generous person can remain generous
[3:04]or maybe become more generous when they attain power so power tends
[3:09]to reveal what is truly on the inside so Allah subhana WA
[3:18]Ta'ala says in chapter number 22 alladhina in Mecca now fill out
[3:23]of a promise alotta who are to zakat there are people that
[3:28]are driven out from their homes so they have been oppressed meaning
[3:32]that they have been stripped of any sort of power but if
[3:35]we gave them power if we gave them authority and influence a
[3:41]calm of salata were are to zakat they would establish the prayers
[3:46]they would not abandon the prayers and they would give charity they
[3:49]would not take from people likewise the Quran shows us the contrary
[3:58]in Chapter number six there's a general address that says enemy arrow
[4:03]can elect Nam in public a member mannan mecanim fill a l've
[4:07]malum noumic in Lacombe have they not seen have the people not
[4:15]seen how we have destroyed and annihilated and it's not so much
[4:19]that God has destroyed or annihilated them but themselves through their own
[4:23]practices their self destructive practices have destroyed themselves have annihilated themselves and
[4:32]these were people who were the Quran says mccannon finale mallum Nomad
[4:37]kinloch Oh Oh yoo-hoo the verses are speaking to those people had
[4:42]more power and more authority than you have in another chapter Allah
[4:49]subhana WA Ta'ala says in chapter number 46 describing the tribe of
[4:55]odd the tribe of odd were an Arabian tribe and their prophet
[4:58]that was sent to them was the prophethood and who hasn't as
[5:03]an entire chapter dedicated to him in the Quran he says laqad
[5:07]McKenna whom FEMA in mechanic's on fee meaning that they that we
[5:13]gave them power we gave them authority in a way that we
[5:19]did not give you power and authority but they misused it these
[5:22]were the great people of odd and let's see Lambeth knew ha
[5:28]Phil Balad for answers aramid artillery mother their city went by the
[5:32]name of Iran and let's see lam yasha through - ballade Allah
[5:36]says there was nothing right the city that they had built and
[5:41]there are some descriptions of what that said it looked like towers
[5:45]and and and and pillars made of all sorts of fine materials
[5:51]and they themselves were according to the Quran a very very great
[5:57]people they were larger than life but they misused their power they
[6:07]misuse what God gave them and so it all came crashing down
[6:10]so there are there is good empowerment in the Quran where Allah
[6:15]subhana WA Ta'ala says we give people certain power and they make
[6:20]good use of it and some people would give them power and
[6:23]they abuse it likewise when you look at some families a father
[6:31]one father he may use his influence to influence his children in
[6:36]a positive way and one father may use his authority strong hand
[6:43]his children and to break them and he misuses it and you
[6:49]see the jails and the Penitentiary's today are full of men and
[6:53]women whose parents either the mother or father and most of the
[6:57]time it's the father unfortunately who misuses the relationship there they're an
[7:04]authority figure but they misuse it so with great power comes great
[7:08]responsibility and that's why we have to ask ourselves that if we
[7:15]want God to empower us if we want God to establish us
[7:18]you want the right people to come in your life you want
[7:24]more money a bigger paycheck you want a better position at your
[7:28]work in your career you want your business to expand and do
[7:34]well the question is is if God empowers you and God establishes
[7:37]you in the earth are you going to be like the people
[7:43]of odd or are you going to be like the people who
[7:44]he has described such as Yusuf raka dhalika mcanally use of Apple
[7:52]ROV Yetta Baba omen hahaha that he had exercised his influence and
[7:56]authority in such a way that he can travel the entire land
[7:59]the land of Egypt and live wherever he wanted to and he
[8:05]would be welcomed and he would still retain his power and his
[8:09]authority the Prophet Yusuf Ali said I'm one thing that was particularly
[8:18]is that he spent a lot of time in seclusion and solitude
[8:21]some of it was involuntary but some of it was voluntary so
[8:29]the times that were involuntary was what when he was thrown down
[8:32]when he was tossed into the well by his brothers who sold
[8:38]him out out of jealousy that was not voluntary it's not something
[8:42]that he willfully participated in there are narrations that teach us the
[8:48]duaa the supplication that the Prophet uses supplicated by when he was
[8:52]in the darkness of the well in order to be saved but
[8:59]he spent time in seclusion in that and and and when you
[9:01]find some of the greatest leaders some of the greatest world leaders
[9:05]and some of the most influential people they spent time in a
[9:13]solitary state in seclusion so that they can reflect they can contemplate
[9:19]the Koran constantly challenges mankind to reflect and think and contemplate a
[9:27]fillet asada Barone if I lie at a factor own do they
[9:30]not think do they not ponder do they not contemplate and sometimes
[9:35]in order to do that you need to get away from distractions
[9:39]you need to put the devices away sometimes you know they did
[9:46]research that shows that when you get a notification on your phone
[9:54]when you get pinged and it happens on a continuous basis the
[9:59]chemicals that are released by your brain are the same chemicals that
[10:04]are released when you take certain drugs it's the same feeling that's
[10:09]why a lot of people the first thing that happens when their
[10:11]phone pings when they get a notification is they have to check
[10:16]the notification there was someone who is saying one time he was
[10:20]recommended that you know what do what do most people do the
[10:22]first thing that when they wake up in the morning is they
[10:27]check the notifications on their phone and they start scrolling through social
[10:32]media through snapchat and Instagram and Facebook and and everything else and
[10:34]whatsapp and opening up the videos and listening and they spend twenty
[10:39]thirty minutes sometimes an hour in bed doing that he says well
[10:42]what you're doing when you do that he says you're you're inviting
[10:47]all of those people into your bedroom first thing in the morning
[10:52]imagine inviting those people first thing in the morning before you've even
[10:56]washed your face or brush your teeth you're interacting with the outside
[11:00]world so he was encouraging the habit of not going to your
[11:05]phone first thing in the morning so sometimes we need to be
[11:09]in seclusion and in isolation and this is exactly what our prophet
[11:13]muhammad sallallahu alehiwassallaam did he would seek seclusion he would seek to
[11:24]be alone in the cave of hella and that's where he received
[11:31]his wisdom that's where he received his inspiration if you read the
[11:35]description of Jesus Christ in the Bible the Prophet ISA aleihsalaam he
[11:38]would spend time alone in the wilderness even some of the more
[11:45]influential leaders there's a narration that's narrated from our 7th Imam al
[11:52]imam moussa hidamari salaam and we history describes him as having spent
[11:56]a long time a very long time in jail in prison and
[11:58]there's a debate about how long he spent exactly but there's a
[12:06]narration that the imam ali salam this was his attitude when he
[12:09]was in the darkness and it wasn't just the prison you know
[12:14]like a penitentiary you see today it was a it was a
[12:16]Pomona it was a pit in the ground and no light would
[12:21]enter narrations say that he would come close in order to to
[12:25]attain some of the light and the guards would use their weapons
[12:32]to push him back into the darkness and in those moments his
[12:36]door his supplication to God was oh Allah I have been waiting
[12:41]for a time for you to place me in solitary confinement so
[12:45]I can build my relationship with you I've been looking forward to
[12:51]this being alone so sometimes being alone not loneliness but being alone
[12:58]is good for you some influential leaders modern-day influential leaders that's where
[13:05]their greatness came from it came from solitary confinement now they say
[13:11]that Abraham Lincoln used to spend a lot of time in the
[13:13]wilderness with his axe and that's how he got the name Honest
[13:18]Abe that's where his honesty came from if you read the Autobiography
[13:22]of Malcolm X which I recommend some of you are familiar with
[13:25]his life maybe you've seen the movie but if you read his
[13:27]autobiography where did he become enlightened it wasn't when he was on
[13:34]the street it was finally when he was in prison when there
[13:38]was there was no more bad activity to engage in so he
[13:43]said he writes in his autobiography that I went to the prison
[13:46]library and I read every single book that was there any book
[13:51]that I can get my hands on he came out a completely
[13:53]different individual he began to grow he realized that he had this
[13:57]hunger inside of him for literacy and for learning and for enlightenment
[14:05]but because he was out in the streets all he could do
[14:07]was hustle and make money but he found his true purpose once
[14:14]he was alone in prison so sometimes we're trying to find ourselves
[14:18]by surrounding ourselves with people sometimes you need solitary confinement to find
[14:23]yourself to dig deep to figure out who you truly are on
[14:26]the inside and that's the story of Yusuf what that begins to
[14:33]create once you reflect is a concept today known as self-awareness when
[14:37]they talk about emotional intelligence EPU and there's a number of books
[14:43]that have been written on the subject of emotional intelligence and the
[14:47]multiple intelligence theory self-awareness is a big part of emotional intelligence knowing
[14:54]yourself knowing your habits knowing your triggers knowing when you get angry
[15:01]or what causes you joy and happiness knowing yourself and this is
[15:08]why the hadith of Rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam says men are fond
[15:15]of say sorrow Fariba he who knows himself meaning he who develops
[15:20]self-awareness he will know allah subhana wa ta'ala sometimes we're looking for
[15:25]God thinking that we're gonna find God in a book that we
[15:30]read or out in the wilderness you know backing in in California
[15:33]there's a number of national parks and it's known that Yosemite National
[15:41]Park is where where a theists go to feel spiritual I spoke
[15:43]to a doctor one time a highly accomplished doctor he said he
[15:47]was born into an Orthodox Church he says but I'm kind of
[15:52]agnostic atheist and if I if I want to know that there's
[15:56]a sense of a God I go to your simony Park so
[15:58]people they go out into the wilderness they search but they never
[16:02]search within themselves all of it resides within you because you are
[16:06]God's greatest sign there are a few verses of poetry that are
[16:14]attributed to amirul mumineen attesa Monika German severe whoa freaking power alum
[16:19]will Akbar oh do you claim that you're a tiny speck when
[16:23]the entire universe is in folded in you so sometimes really need
[16:32]to look inwards I was listening to someone one time he said
[16:36]that a group of he was telling a story that's it's a
[16:39]fictional story but it makes a lot of sense it's like a
[16:44]like a sobs fables you know he said a group of devils
[16:45]got together a group of shayateen the Quran talks about when the
[16:51]shayateen get together and they begin to conspire with one another so
[16:56]they were asking among themselves that how do we strip humanity of
[17:00]joy and happiness so one of them suggested let's bury it deep
[17:06]down into the ocean so they said no human beings their technology
[17:09]is getting better and better they're reaching the darkest parts of the
[17:13]ocean so they said okay where else can we hide it they
[17:18]said well we'll hide it on top of the highest mountain and
[17:19]they said no well human beings have been you know recently conquering
[17:24]what is it Mount Everest people have reached the top of Everest
[17:28]they'll find it there so one of them came up with a
[17:32]good idea he said we'll bury it deep within their hearts because
[17:35]that's the one place where most people they don't look so they
[17:39]go to the deepest parts of the ocean and the highest parts
[17:41]of the mountain but they don't look within themselves so what you
[17:45]need for a joy and happiness is not located out there it's
[17:51]located within but because we're so distracted by the outside world we
[17:55]think that our happiness comes from the outside world it doesn't come
[18:00]from the outside world happiness is a choice it's a state of
[18:02]mind and not every day you're gonna be happy joy is different
[18:09]than happiness so someone was saying recently that every day you love
[18:14]your kids but every day you don't like your kids in our
[18:18]days when you don't like your kids but you still love your
[18:20]kids and love comes from joy liking comes from happiness that was
[18:27]the point so in order to reach those high levels of mataf
[18:30]of recognition and if you want to recognize Allah subhana WA Ta'ala
[18:34]you look within see self-awareness is even important from a medical point
[18:41]of view and a mental health point of view some mental health
[18:45]disorders some mental health challenges sometimes people say well this person has
[18:53]depression or this person has schizophrenia or this person is they're affected
[18:58]by by a certain condition and they're in denial which is true
[19:05]but denial is only short-term when it's long-term it's not denial it's
[19:10]lack of self-awareness denial is something which is temporary if you're familiar
[19:16]with when they talk about in psychology the five stages of grief
[19:18]when you lose a loved one or when you know when the
[19:22]doctor gives you a diagnosis and says you have six months to
[19:25]live or three months to live what are the five stages it
[19:32]begins with denial that's the first one the they call it the
[19:35]kubler-ross model it was designed by Elisabeth kubler-ross who is a psychologist
[19:40]in the 1960s number one is denial you tend to deny it
[19:45]first when you hear the news of someone path you deny it
[19:47]the second is anger I believe and then after anger comes bargaining
[20:00]you to bargain if I'm a good person is this gonna be
[20:02]reversed can I get my can I earn my life back and
[20:06]then the fourth is depression and then the fifth finally is acceptance
[20:09]those are the five stages denial the first one is temporary it's
[20:17]always temporary finally you get to a point where you realize that
[20:20]no this person has really passed away they've departed or I'm really
[20:24]facing this challenge and I need to stop denying it I need
[20:30]to move on to another emotion so denial when it comes to
[20:33]mental health illness as well is something which is temporary if the
[20:37]mental health illness proceeds for a long time it's no longer denial
[20:43]now it's a lack of self-awareness so we need to start knowing
[20:46]ourselves man arafa neva taka talla for Abba and this was a
[20:51]story of the prophet youssef now I want to share with you
[20:53]three things that the Prophet use of Ali said I'm saw within
[20:55]himself number one Yusuf was a man of confidence he was very
[21:03]confident in his ability and he says in the Quran when his
[21:09]time came Carla Alenia allah azza in an utterly in DeHoff even
[21:13]Adam when finally his time came after he had successfully interpreted the
[21:20]dream of the king and the king was happy with him he
[21:27]stepped up to the plate he had the confidence to step up
[21:29]to the plate and say College ali allah azza in illa allah
[21:35]make me in charge of the storehouses where you keep the food
[21:39]that you harvest your treasury in the half even Adam I am
[21:44]a good keeper and I am knowledgeable in these affairs so this
[21:47]shows us that Yusuf number one had confidence even though he had
[21:52]just come out of jail he was straight out of the prison
[21:54]he was straight out of the can but he had enough confidence
[21:58]in his ability so how do you gain confidence how does a
[22:01]person become confidence is it a commodity that you could just walk
[22:04]into the supermarket in io7 third roll up grab a can of
[22:08]confidence doesn't happen that way number one confidence happens through a skill
[22:12]set that you built I'll give you an example they say that
[22:16]the most feared thing I don't know how accurate this is but
[22:19]they say that the most feared thing is public speaking standing in
[22:23]front of people and speaking it's what terrifies people the most one
[22:26]of the things that terrifies people the most well how do you
[22:31]become confident in public speaking if you ask anyone who is a
[22:33]public speaker or a public presenter about their first time I can
[22:38]tell you for myself my knees were shaking like this I was
[22:41]standing behind a podium like this one but your confidence builds the
[22:45]more you do something so you commit yourself to a skill set
[22:52]confidence doesn't also come from knowledge confidence is also related to wisdom
[22:57]there's a difference between knowledge and wisdom so you have information and
[23:02]then you have knowledge and then you have wisdom there's a difference
[23:08]between knowledge and wisdom knowledge I'll give you an example to show
[23:13]the difference between knowledge and wisdom knowledge is if you ask is
[23:16]a tomato a fruit or a vegetable what's a tomato is it
[23:22]a fruit or a vegetable not two fruit it's a fruit it
[23:25]has citric acid so knowledge is knowing that tomato is a fruit
[23:30]wisdom is that you don't put tomato in a fruit salad I
[23:34]mean in today's world with vegans and everything you put anything in
[23:38]anything but normally when you think of fruit salad you don't put
[23:43]tomato even though it's a fruit so wisdom is knowing where to
[23:46]apply the knowledge wisdom is know is is knowledge in application knowing
[23:52]where to put everything in its space why is this important because
[23:58]sometimes when it comes to our personal decisions don't just base your
[24:03]personal decisions off of knowledge base it off of wisdom sometimes I
[24:12]get the question is something halal or Haram and although something being
[24:16]Haram is a good enough reason to stay away from it sometimes
[24:20]people require a little bit more convincing or they ask you something
[24:25]hollande and if the answer is yes that's knowledge but knowing whether
[24:30]that thing is right for you at that moment that requires wisdom
[24:34]so one of the examples that I get a lot and I'll
[24:39]just say it I might get heat for this but people ask
[24:40]especially young men asked me these days or tattoos halal or Haram
[24:46]there's an answer for that the reality is there's an answer for
[24:49]that but if you're going to base your life only off of
[24:53]something and it's very convenient because a lot of the times that's
[24:56]the only I won't say that I can't judge people's intentions so
[25:01]what what I tried to tell why did what I try to
[25:05]get people to understand is you need to base yourself your decisions
[25:07]more than if something is just halal or Haram maybe it's helada
[25:12]but it's not the right thing for you to do because it
[25:17]doesn't match with your image your public image that is wisdom that's
[25:21]basing your decision off of principles now if it matches your public
[25:26]image go ahead do whatever you want but it's not the wise
[25:32]thing to do in life what's gonna move you forward is not
[25:34]just knowledge wisdom is gonna move you forward there's a very successful
[25:39]entrepreneur some of you have probably heard his name Ray Dalio he
[25:44]wrote a book called principles Ray Dalio when he was 26 years
[25:47]old started the most successful what was to become the most successful
[25:51]hedge fund management company in the United States Bridgewater investments the man
[25:57]is a multi billionaire and in his book principles he says people
[26:01]you know he says people think that I'm smart he says I'm
[26:03]not very smart he says what what causes my success is not
[26:10]the information that I have it's the foundation and the principles of
[26:14]how I make decisions when I don't have information which is wisdom
[26:20]it's looking beyond just the information so confidence is also related to
[26:31]that so having confidence part of wisdom is confidence so how do
[26:36]you get confidence number one is by increasing your self-image so how
[26:40]do you increase your self-image there was an author who is a
[26:46]plastic surgeon in the 1940s his name is Maxwell Maltz and he
[26:49]wrote a book on psychology psycho cybernetics plastic surgeon writing a book
[26:56]on psychology and the reason he wrote the book is because he
[27:01]says that when I would work on people when I would change
[27:02]their nose or their ears or their smile or other parts of
[27:06]the body generally they would feel better about themselves most patients they
[27:09]would feel better a portion of them they didn't feel better about
[27:12]themselves at all so it began to interest me did I do
[27:16]the surgery wrong what's going on and he realized that those people
[27:20]that it didn't change theirs their their image at all didn't change
[27:23]their happiness it had nothing to do with their outer appearance and
[27:26]everything to do with their inner appearance so he said these people
[27:30]they didn't require an outside facelift they required an inside facelift he
[27:34]said some people would come to me and they would say doctor
[27:38]I want you to fix my nose and he would tell them
[27:39]there's nothing wrong with your nose it's an average-sized nose or my
[27:42]ears say there's nothing wrong with your ears its average size looks
[27:48]good against his judgment as a surgeon because he can make money
[27:50]off of it but he says that you don't need a facelift
[27:53]you need a spiritual facelift you need an inside facelift that's self-esteem
[27:59]number two it comes from your association the people that you hang
[28:03]out with they affect your self-image and your self-esteem like nothing at
[28:07]all and the Prophet use of a laser on teaches us an
[28:12]example about that when he was given the choice to associate with
[28:15]people who were enticing him to do evil or be by himself
[28:22]his respond was cholera BCG no AHA boo Aleya mamaia on any
[28:25]ill a that I would rather be in prison I would rather
[28:29]be alone I would rather be in solitary confinement then be with
[28:33]people who are going to corrupt my character and corrupt my decision
[28:36]there's a verse in the Bible that says bad company corrupts good
[28:41]character you may have good character but if you're surrounded by bad
[28:44]company it's gonna corrupt your good character likewise it corrupts your self-image
[28:49]it corrupts your self-esteem so whatever you put in the brain and
[28:56]I mentioned the other day in computer science the principle of GI
[29:00]geo garbage in garbage out if you put nonsense data into a
[29:04]computer nonsense data is also going to come out of it GI
[29:07]geo that was a phrase that was repeated in the early days
[29:11]when it came to computer programming and computer sciences and your brain
[29:15]is a multi trillion-dollar supercomputer there was a professor by the name
[29:20]of dr.
[29:21]Charles Herrick of the University of Chicago and he did this study
[29:23]many years ago about a hundred years ago he revealed that the
[29:26]brain the human brain has about 10 to 14 billion nerve cells
[29:31]just in the cerebral cortex and they're not arranged haphazardly they're all
[29:39]arranged systematically more than any other supercomputer that you can think of
[29:44]so if a computer garbage in garbage out what happens to the
[29:48]brain garbage in garbage out and that comes from your association so
[29:52]number one is confidence number two is competence what is competence competence
[30:01]is knowing that you can deliver and that comes from that comes
[30:04]from his statement college a niala fahza Anil of the indie half
[30:08]even Adam like I said there's a difference between knowledge and wisdom
[30:13]there's an abundance of information out there you can google anything and
[30:18]get information about anything but what people are starving for in today's
[30:22]day and age is not just information they want the truth the
[30:26]truth is not just in firm the truth is higher than information
[30:31]the truth is higher than even knowledge so truth becomes manifested through
[30:37]people people who actually have fruit on the tree in the area
[30:40]that they claim to be an expert in that's called competence you
[30:45]build competence over time I want to share a narration with you
[30:49]this is from imam al-ghazali sallam he says Monrovia Abbey laquifa Wadley
[30:55]a balaji nya a person who is lifted a person who is
[30:59]exalted to a position without having the requirements without having the competence
[31:05]they will fall what we are balaji nya even though they don't
[31:10]commit a crime even if they don't do anything wrong so sometimes
[31:14]we promote people I have a lot of fruits but no root
[31:21]there's a lot of fruit on the tree but there's no roots
[31:24]that are inside the ground that happens when we begin to idolize
[31:32]people that's idolatry idolatry is being attracted to the roots that has
[31:38]no fruit when we idolize people because of their presentation skills because
[31:42]of their voice because of this because of because of their appearance
[31:46]because of their attitude and the way they walk and the clothes
[31:49]that they wear Monrovia Monrovia ability fire will the ability nya those
[31:55]those very same people when we lift them and when they exalt
[31:59]them they will come crashing down and this can happen in any
[32:01]field even in the field of Islamic education so competence competence is
[32:07]very important and the third is trust Amana Trust is the glue
[32:15]that brings relationships together and when the King found that Yousef was
[32:21]trustworthy he said Allah in Nakano mana Dana McKinnon I mean that
[32:25]number one you are McKean going back to that idea of established
[32:30]and empowered we've established you we've established your position we're empowering you
[32:36]and you have proven yourself to be a mean trustworthy these are
[32:41]character these are three characteristics of a leader confidence competence and trust
[32:46]rasool allah sallallahu alehiwassallaam was known as assad apple ameen the truthful
[32:53]one the truthful trustworthy one moosa aleihsalaam was described in the following
[32:58]way in the higher ominous Geritol Cahuilla I mean when the daughter
[33:03]of tribe saw his conduct she went back to her father and
[33:08]she said Oh father the best type of person that you can
[33:10]employ as someone who is going strong and Ameen someone who is
[33:14]trustworthy and then they got married because she saw those characteristics within
[33:21]him jibra eel is also described as a ruffle I mean NASA
[33:28]knobby he ruefully I mean so being a person of trust so
[33:31]when we think about leadership we need to think about qualities that
[33:35]are rooted in the Quran and of course the chapter so let's
[33:41]use of there are many many more lessons to be derived out
[33:44]of that but those are the ones that I want to share
[33:47]with you and tonight we are in a night that we commemorate
[33:52]a person who brought all those characteristics together in the persona of
[33:56]one human being one who has confidence one who was competence one
[34:01]who was strong one who was trustworthy one who was established firmly
[34:09]rooted one who you can say his existence was engineered and designed
[34:18]to serve a specific purpose on the Day of Ashura and we
[34:22]understand that from the conversation that his sister zeyneb alehissalaam had with
[34:29]him the night of Ashura when she saw him standing outside of
[34:33]the tent tomorrow Allah will fadhl al-abbas and she was older than
[34:41]him in age and she engaged him in conversation she told him
[34:46]the story of how he came to be she told him the
[34:52]story of his mother Amal benin a lady that was hand selected
[34:55]handpicked from the background that she came from I mentioned the hadith
[35:01]yesterday the Prophet says after Allah no become final Erika the SAS
[35:08]that she was picked for a specific purpose because she came from
[35:13]a family that were known for their courage their valiance their bravery
[35:19]so that she can produce sons that would stand by the other
[35:28]sons during the time of calamity during a time when they were
[35:33]needed the most and she has this conversation with him as his
[35:38]sister she reminds him exactly why he was chosen an abode for
[35:43]Abbas Ali Salaam did not shy away from his responsibilities on the
[35:49]day of ashura his brother imam hussain ali saddam he placed him
[35:56]right at the center the camp of the Imam had a right
[36:01]flank it had a left flank and it had a center and
[36:06]he placed his family at the center and the standard-bearer at the
[36:10]center was about fadhl al-abbas alayhi salam standing there like a WatchGuard
[36:18]defending his brother defending the womenfolk an imam hussain ali salaam on
[36:22]the day of ashura he needed all of the strength that he
[36:24]could get to witness what he was witnessing and so after the
[36:32]companions had gone out into the battlefield narrations sell us that the
[36:36]first from the men of banu hashim was a lien in a
[36:38]kebab so even after a lien an equitable fadhl al-abbas was one
[36:43]of the last to go out into the battlefield and he went
[36:49]out into the battlefield and his initial request from the Imam was
[36:52]to go out and bring some water back to the children not
[36:55]to go out and fight but to bring some water the Imam
[36:59]could not even imagine losing his brother but after much negotiation the
[37:04]Imam turned to him he said to him and Tehama ulama he
[37:10]will allama 2min body he says you are my standard bearer you
[37:13]are the one that carries my flag if you are to fall
[37:17]who is going to carry my standard after you but I will
[37:23]follow Abbas he insisted to go out into the battlefield to fetch
[37:26]some water so he mounted his horse like the Prince that he
[37:31]was with full courage and bravery and valiance he went out towards
[37:39]the battlefield and he specifically directed himself towards the river and nobody
[37:44]can fight a mirror nobody can fight Apple fadhl al-abbas face to
[37:51]face so they try to deter him from getting to the water
[37:54]but he began to scatter them left and right until finally the
[38:02]path was made for him to kneel into the river natural alchemy
[38:04]to place his hands in the water to draw some of that
[38:10]cold water to place into the canteen to take back to the
[38:13]children and he placed his hands into the water and the narration
[38:17]says Fatah vicara Appa shell for sane Ali Salaam he remembered the
[38:24]thirst of his brother hussain ali salaam an imam al baqarah alayhi
[38:27]Salam says at that moment he says canif album me al abbas
[38:30]Kasauli at El Djem remaineth Lama he says from thirst al abbas
[38:37]himself his heart was like a beat it was like a burning
[38:40]piece of charcoal he was burning on the inside imagine what a
[38:48]drink of water a sip of water would have done to him
[38:51]how it would have brought back his strength he began to speak
[38:56]to himself yon f swim in battle Hosseini hooni wa ba hula
[38:59]Kunti and sakuni huddle for saying wha reddleman Unni what s Lavina
[39:04]buried al merini how own F's herself how can you get yourself
[39:10]to drink from this cold water while your brother Hussain is thirsty
[39:19]in a state of thirst so he let the water go from
[39:21]drinking it he poured he filled the canteen and he took the
[39:28]canteen he mounted his horse in order to go back to the
[39:30]camp of Imam Hussain so that he can deliver water to the
[39:34]children who had been thirsty for a number of days to his
[39:36]brother Omar Abdul sad began to turn to the army he began
[39:43]to tell them what is wrong with you do you know what
[39:47]will happen to the sons of Hashem if they are able to
[39:49]regain their strength through this water attack him so they began to
[39:53]surround him but Abu fadhl al-abbas was valiant his resolve was strong
[40:01]he knew what his mission was so he began to head back
[40:03]and as he began to head back the narration says that one
[40:08]of the enemy soldiers who was hiding behind a palm tree he
[40:11]came out from behind the palm tree and he struck a will
[40:15]fadhl al-abbas on his right arm immediately severing it i will fumble
[40:19]abbas alehissalaam began to recite verses of poetry that even if you
[40:27]cut off my right arm I will still continue to defend he
[40:31]defended himself in any way that he could with his left hand
[40:36]until someone else came another one of the enemy army came to
[40:39]him and struck him on his left hand also severing it at
[40:43]this moment I will follow Allah Abbas was defenseless he saw that
[40:47]his only chance was to deliver the water was to run back
[40:49]to the camp so the narration says that he grabbed the the
[40:54]handle of the container with his teeth and he began to run
[41:00]in the direction of imam hussain ali salaam he began to run
[41:03]but at that moment the arrows began to rain down from him
[41:08]from every side from left and right finally he was struck down
[41:10]he continued to struggle he continued to want to move forward but
[41:16]then finally one arrow fell into the canteen and the water began
[41:19]to gush forth from it at that moment i will father abbas
[41:24]realized that he would not be able to continue his mission so
[41:27]he laid in his place as he laid in his place the
[41:32]enemy soldiers began to surround him from every direction they began to
[41:36]rain down upon him with their arrows with their spears with their
[41:40]weapons finally one of them came and took a flagpole and struck
[41:47]a willful abbas on his head at that moment imam hussain ali
[41:50]he said i'm seeing his brother begins to flee out into the
[41:53]battlefield when the enemy soldiers see imam hussain they began to scatter
[42:00]left and right imam hussain tells them in a net of a
[42:04]road walk at castle vihari in a nut of her own rocket
[42:09]Eltham a blue where are you going now that you have broken
[42:11]my back where are you going now that you have killed my
[42:16]brother Imam Hussein comes to his brother I will from the lab
[42:18]bus he finds him bleeding from head to toe staying in his
[42:24]place during his last moments he places his head in his lap
[42:26]he begins to caress him he begins to remove the dirt from
[42:31]his face he began and I will father Abbas alehissalaam narration says
[42:36]that he removed his head from the lap of person he placed
[42:38]it on the floor again Imam Hussain placed his head in his
[42:43]lap again he removed it for a third time he did the
[42:45]same thing he says why are you removing your head oh brother
[42:49]a bus it is your brother for saying here who is now
[42:51]taking care of you he said say the about Abdullah you are
[42:57]now taking care of me you are now caressing me but who
[42:59]will be there for you when you are lying on the plains
[43:03]of Karbala and Nana na na na you had your own Imam
[43:09]Husayn alehissalaam came back he pleaded with his brother to come back
[43:12]so that he can bury him next to the other martyrs that
[43:15]had passed away I will father Abbas knowing that he had not
[43:21]taken water back refused so he remained in his place in na
