[0:09][Music] alhim Mustafa Muhammad B [Music] it's been narrated that the prophet
[1:19]Muhammad s alai wasam once asked his companions and the prophet peace
[1:29]be upon him you find he would look for opportunities to to
[1:35]teach but his teaching was not just him giving instruction and giving
[1:45]teaching sometimes he would prompt his companions he would Prime them he
[1:48]would ask them a certain question to understand their level of understanding
[1:56]not every student understands the lesson the same way some who spend
[2:03]more time than others with the teacher receive more benefit receive more
[2:09]guidance receive more wisdom they say it's the uh what's the saying
[2:13]the squeaky wheel gets the oil you find that teachers especially they
[2:19]love the students who are paying attention who are showing up who
[2:25]are learning who are asking the right questions versus sometimes a student
[2:29]who they just want to get by with the bare bones minimum
[2:33]I remember growing up sometimes if the subject was intriguing and interesting
[2:37]I'm I'm talking about myself personally you know we would we would
[2:42]put in time time after school put in time trying to really
[2:46]understand the subject matter versus if something was dry or if it
[2:52]didn't really appeal sometimes you Tred to just get by with the
[2:55]barebones minimum you would think what's the least passing grade or the
[2:59]least passing score that you can get and you'd be fine with
[3:02]that so the prophet peace be upon him had different types of
[3:07]students he had the students like who he was able to teach
[3:14]and open up for him 1,000 doors of Knowledge from each one
[3:17]of those doors another thousand doors of knowledge versus the ones who
[3:21]they were there for some sort of benefit they weren't really there
[3:26]to be enlightened or to learn or to be taught in any
[3:29]way a group of them the Quran describes they would come to
[3:42]the prophet sometimes they knew that the Muslim Community was thriving that
[3:46]they had resources that they could take care of them that there
[3:50]would be benefit to the poor and they would claim their Iman
[3:55]and Allah tells them do not claim Iman for Iman is something
[3:59]that develops gradually in the hearts say we have become Muslim and
[4:08]it costs nothing to become Muslim and your Islam your shahada your
[4:11]testimony of Islam will not be rejected it is not permissible for
[4:15]any one to reject the Shah of another once a person says
[4:28]it is not for any one of us to reject so one
[4:33]day the prophet was sitting with his companions and he asked them
[4:37]he said what is this phrase which appears in the Quran in
[4:47]two verses one we are familiar with because we recite in means
[5:01]what what is the definition of it the word in the Arabic
[5:08]language is a handheld something which you can hold on to means
[5:15]the most reliable handhold something that you can hold on to which
[5:19]is reliable in terms of your faith and it's actually uh the
[5:30]title of a book on jurist Prudence written by Muhammed studied in
[5:34]our it's also the name by the way of a journal which
[5:40]was written by two Muslim Scholars jamaludin afani and Muhammad Abdu who
[5:46]were in Paris France in the year 1884 and they would write
[5:51]an Islamic Journal named so the most reliable handhold the prophet asks
[5:56]his companions what is it what does this refer to the thing
[6:01]that you can hold on to your faith that you will never
[6:06]lose that will never let you down so they began giving different
[6:09]answers one person said well it's fasting one person said it's your
[6:16]prayers one person said it's Hajj one person said it's charity they
[6:24]began to give different answers and the prophet responded he said while
[6:28]all of those have their own merits the most reliable handheld is
[6:36]to love for the sake of Allah subhah waala and to loathe
[6:39]also for his sake not for your own sake to remove yourself
[6:46]your nefs your ego your desires from the equation completely when it
[6:50]comes to serving when it comes to giving when it comes to
[6:53]doing realizing that this service is purely for Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
[7:00]even our own desire sometimes we have our own desire which gets
[7:07]mixed in and we must ask Allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala to keep our
[7:12]our our desires our wants what we want what we do in
[7:15]complete sincerity to him so that there is no nothing that is
[7:21]mixed in you know all of us are familiar with the story
[7:25]of how IMI he struck down in battle no person no muslim
[7:36]wanted to fight this man they were terrified and so when the
[7:42]prophet called upon the companions which one of you will go out
[7:45]to fight this Warrior nobody stood except for a young man at
[7:51]the time so the prophet told him to sit down he said
[7:56]sit down Ali who will stand who will fight he stood again
[7:58]he said sit down Ali give others the opportunity give others the
[8:01]chance and when he found that no one was going no one
[8:05]was willing so he sent him into the battlefield and long story
[8:08]short they have their exchange of words they have their exchange of
[8:14]fight when the dust settled the Muslim said when the dust settled
[8:18]we found Ali standing on top of this man and before he
[8:26]dealt the final blow this man insulted Ed him in some way
[8:31]he either said something or you he did something to insult him
[8:35]so the companion said Ali moved he went around he did a
[8:40]full circle around and then he came back and he struck the
[8:43]final blow and when he came back they inquired they said you
[8:48]know what what was this you know you walked away in a
[8:51]circle and you came back he said when he insulted me when
[8:56]he insulted me I became angry myself took it a bit personal
[9:04]he said I I became angry myself so I had to walk
[9:06]away to clear my mind so that I was not dealing the
[9:15]final blow while I was angry for myself and I was offended
[9:17]for myself I wanted this to be purely for the sake of
[9:24]Allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala I didn't want any of my own desire or
[9:27]my own loathing or whatever it was to be mixed with my
[9:33]intention I wanted it purely for the sake of God purely for
[9:35]the sake of Allah so to love for his sake to also
[9:41]loathe for his sake the Quran tells us so what does it
[9:53]mean to love for the sake of God and how does God
[9:58]love us what is the effect of God's love when he loves
[10:00]us first of all we say that Allah loves his creation if
[10:08]he had not loved his creation he would not create them in
[10:14]one Hadith attributed to them he says Allah subh says about himself
[10:31]that I was a hidden treasure and I wanted to be known
[10:38]I desire to be known so I created Humanity to know me
[10:41]not for my benefit but for their benefit when they benefit through
[10:45]my love they become better they become greater they become a manifestation
[10:53]of greatness man who has desire who can be overcome by his
[10:57]desire who can choose to do evil but chooses to love and
[11:03]do good regardless Allah subhana wa ta'ala tells us of the categories
[11:08]of Those whom he loves whom does he love God loves the
[11:17]people ofan is to do good kindness we have commanded man to
[11:34]do good and be kind towards his parents why his mother carried
[11:42]him even though it was so difficult on him she paid the
[11:45]price she sacrificed her well-being and you know in those days it
[11:51]was very common for women to die it was much more common
[11:52]for women to die during child birth correct it was much more
[11:59]common than it is today we have commanded man to to be
[12:05]kind and according to our narrations in Hadith alian is one of
[12:14]those things which enters the grave of a Believer see we have
[12:18]this concept known as the embodiment and the physical manifestation of your
[12:26]Deeds see our Deeds what we say what we do you know
[12:32]sometimes we say something and we've completely forgotten about it that we've
[12:36]said it it's disappeared but that act of speech does not disappear
[12:43]entirely it remains in existence scientifically speaking everything that we do everything
[12:51]that we say we are not creating anything new any new energy
[12:54]we are simply transforming science tells us of the law of conservation
[13:00]of mass and energy these were two laws that were sort of
[13:06]discovered separately but after Einstein's theories they were brought into one Theory
[13:12]the conservation of mass and energy which states that the energy and
[13:15]the mass in this universe stays consistent we cannot create it nor
[13:19]can we destroy it we can only transform it you see when
[13:24]you consume energy you consume calories right you need to consume calories
[13:30]which is energy in order to produce your own energy produce your
[13:36]own Deeds if I stopped consuming calories I would not have the
[13:39]energy to produce any speech to produce any actions correct and eventually
[13:43]I will deteriorate and wither and die when I consume calories what
[13:52]is a calorie a calorie is a unit of measurement of energy
[13:57]correct and it's the amount I was paying attention in class okay
[14:01]it's the amount of energy required to raise one liter of water
[14:07]by 1° Centigrade correct 1 KCAL right 1,000 calories right by 1°
[14:15]Centigrade correct muham Muhammad I I really struggled with science but where
[14:25]it counted alhamdulillah I made it count and I learned so if
[14:28]I don't consume a calorie right you notice as soon as you
[14:33]consume calories you notice that food has a thermogenic effect and some
[14:38]people feel it more intensely that I feel I feel the thermogenic
[14:40]effect of food very intensely as soon as I begin to eat
[14:46]or drink the body temperature goes up because now there's energy in
[14:50]the body this energy I have not created from myself nor can
[14:53]I destroy it I can only transform it so the energy that
[14:58]you bring in you can choose to transform for Good Deeds or
[15:01]you can choose to transform into evil and it never disappears this
[15:05]is why the Quran says that on that day every soul shall
[15:18]see what it has produced from Good and Evil as means it's
[15:24]present in front of you and the one who has produced evil
[15:30]will wish that there is a distance between him and his evil
[15:33]but he cannot get away from it in this world you can
[15:36]get you can say something and you can get away with it
[15:38]you can do something and then you can get away with it
[15:43]but for how long do you get away from with it how
[15:44]long do you disappear from it there are certain Deeds that the
[15:50]torment and the punishment is happening now but you do not feel
[15:54]it this is why the Quran says two two things one is
[16:07]happening currently one will happen in the future what is happening currently
[16:11]when they consume the wealth of the orphans back then and even
[16:14]today it's an issue where orphans who they're placed under somebody's care
[16:18]the person who is caring for them they use their wealth for
[16:24]their you their own business their own means god almighty says those
[16:28]that engage in this type of behavior when they are consuming that
[16:32]wealth they are consuming fire in their stomachs so that fire is
[16:36]there but we cannot see it it does not become manifest until
[16:41]later this is why we are told our Deeds according to Ali
[16:47]bringing it back to this is what we were talking about Allah
[16:49]subhana loves according to aith in is one of the Deeds that
[17:02]enters the grave with us and it takes a physical manifestation our
[17:09]Salah zakat our Ouran our righteousness and the last is the belief
[17:18]in the guardianship of the the Hadith says that these are not
[17:23]just acts and deeds that we do we fulfill in this Dunya
[17:28]in this life and they're done no they will enter the grave
[17:31]and they will take a physical form and they will protect the
[17:39]M The Believer from all directions front back side to side top
[17:44]and bottom and that whenever the Angels who are in charge of
[17:47]holding him to account whenever they want to punish him these Deeds
[17:53]they stand in front of a man like a soldier blocking off
[17:56]that evil blocking off the punishments so if your Salah is strong
[18:02]you'll have a strong Soldier by your side if your Salah is
[18:04]weak and you don't pay attention to your Salah and you forgo
[18:08]it you'll have a soldier but he'll be missing a leg and
[18:11]he'll be missing a arm and he won't have any you know
[18:16]bullets in in the chamber the good that you do it takes
[18:24]a physical manifestation in the grave and it protects you it's something
[18:28]which is very significant and Allah subhana wa tala says he loves
[18:34]what is another category of Those whom he loves he loves those
[18:41]who repent and those who are pure he loves those who repent
[18:51]who turn back to him and you know in order to turn
[18:53]back to Allah it means that you must have been going in
[18:58]the wrong direction so if you're going in the wrong direction you're
[19:01]not damned for life there's a way for you to come this
[19:03]is the whole point ofba is to turn back to repent he
[19:11]loves the person who realizes I've made a mistake and now I
[19:18]need to turn back and again I am personally I am reminded
[19:20]of the words of IM in Dua abam he says oh Allah
[19:28]if you were to punish me then in that punishment is the
[19:35]pleasure of your enemy and if you were to reward you reward
[19:37]me in that reward is the pleasure and the satisfaction of your
[19:44]Prophet peace be upon him and I know that the pleasure and
[19:47]satisfaction of your Prophet is more beloved to you than the satisfaction
[19:50]of your enemies and his enemies really a treasure chest and repentance
[20:01]and I mentioned the Hadith yesterday of the companion who would ask
[20:06]the Imam he would say why is it that you spend so
[20:09]much time in Weeping narrations tell us that he would Weep the
[20:15]Imam would weep in prostration and of course the closest we are
[20:19]to God according to the Hadith is in what time in suud
[20:25]in prostration so prolong it one Hadith says that if the M
[20:29]knew what kind of blessings what was happening to him when he
[20:32]was doing suud he would never lift his head from the ground
[20:36]he would keep it planted permanently for the rest of his life
[20:39]if he knew what kind of blessings he was receiving so are
[20:46]we familiar with the blessings that we receive so people ask you
[20:53]know your God the Islamic God does he love because the Christian
[20:59]God right is love God is love we do not say God
[21:04]is love but God is loving it is one of his attributes
[21:05]he shows us love he is loving where is his love he
[21:09]says here I love those who stay clean those who stay pure
[21:19]our faith our religion is about purity it's about cleanliness this is
[21:25]why alhamdulillah you come to the Masjid here every every day and
[21:32]as much food there is served the night before you come here
[21:35]and it's alhamdulillah clean as a whistle it's clean every single day
[21:39]we are intentional about this cleanliness is a part of Faith the
[21:45]prophet peace be upon him he would spend you know where he
[21:49]would spend a lot of money on perfume and oils some reports
[21:53]would say that when the prophet would walk someplace people would come
[21:58]a few days later and they can still smell the scent of
[22:02]his fragrance he says the people of this is the whole point
[22:13]behind why we fast we fast to attain ta and Allah says
[22:25]if I've given a person tawa then I have given him an
[22:32]abundance of good the person who holds back Allah says the person
[22:44]who has tawa Allah will create a channel for him an opening
[22:48]for him sometimes you have the opport someone has done wrong to
[22:54]you and you have the opportunity to do wrong to them in
[22:56]the same way but you hold back you hold back because whatever
[23:01]people do they may cross the boundary you say I'm not going
[23:05]to cross the boundary they may oppress me I'm not going to
[23:08]oppress them in the same way not because they're not deserving maybe
[23:11]they're deserving of that sort of treatment but because I know Allah
[23:17]is watching over me my role my responsibility is towards Allah not
[23:20]towards this person anything I do is for the sake of Allah
[23:26]this is what it means to forgo an ignorant an ignoramus comes
[23:34]to you with their words and you can tell an ignorant person
[23:39]not by the lack of their knowledge the the the the the
[23:47]lack of their knowledge or the existence of their knowledge the way
[23:51]that IM aliam describes an ignorant person is not through their knowledge
[23:55]it's through their aggression he says you might find a knowledgeable person
[23:59]who is who has a lot of knowledge but because they are
[24:04]aggressive they are like the ignoramus they are like the Jah and
[24:06]you might find the person who is a j they don't know
[24:10]a lot but because of their patience they are they are like
[24:14]a scholar and like a a knowledgeable person this is what he
[24:18]says in ta to hold back Allah says I will create a
[24:23]channel for you don't worry some early Muslims they they misunderstood this
[24:29]verse they thought that it meant that we will sit in our
[24:32]homes and we will worship and Allah will send for us our
[24:36]risk and our sustenance and when the prophet heard about this he
[24:39]said no not at all you must go and you must work
[24:44]you must produce Halal income and Allah will bless it again IM
[24:50]in Dua Abu Hamza among the what he asks for in his
[24:56]Dua oh Allah give me forgiveness give me mercy give me compassion
[25:05]give me your love give me your guidance but also give me
[25:09]that which is meant for me that which is pure that which
[25:16]I don't need to overextend or reach my hand into somebody else's
[25:18]pocket in order to take how many of of us here we
[25:31]can testify to this that we have received some form of risk
[25:34]that we did not even expect to happen all of us every
[25:40]single one and risk is not just money it's Health it's well-being
[25:44]it's opportunity it's the opportunity to perform Hajj and and Z how
[25:49]many of us we've performed Hajj or or Zar and we did
[25:53]not even expect to go and maybe it only happened a week
[25:56]beforehand many of us here and inshallah for those who have not
[26:02]experienced it you will experience it how many times did you want
[26:11]something and you didn't get it and Allah gave you something a
[26:13]million times better than what you wanted something that you had not
[26:17]even thought about you had not even imagined Allah takes it and
[26:21]puts it in your lap this is the effect of tawa Allah
[26:26]says not just the effect of tawa but I love those people
[26:34]of tawa he says Allah loves the people who come together and
[26:48]they stand side by side shoulder by shoulder fighting for his cause
[26:53]as if they are a concrete structure have you ever tried to
[26:59]you know push down a concrete structure or fight a concrete structure
[27:06]you cannot Allah loves Harmony between people he loves peace and prosperity
[27:10]between people when people of different nationalities can come together and stand
[27:16]together and build a community like this one Allah loves to see
[27:23]this site Allah loves when we can come together and we are
[27:27]not separated by our differences our differences unite us our love for
[27:31]Allah our love for Islam our love for Ramadan our love for
[27:36]all that is good unites us Allah says I love to see
[27:38]a group of people like this and there are many other categories
[27:49]of Those whom Allah loves these are only a few of them
[27:54]now when God loves us and when we love God how do
[28:00]we express it how do we express our love for him he
[28:06]teaches us exactly how to express our love for him say to
[28:10]them if you claim to love Allah many people claim to love
[28:14]Allah say to them if you claim to love God a sign
[28:26]of your love to God is to love the messenger of God
[28:33]Muhammad s alai Al wasam to follow him in his commands Fellowship
[28:44]to follow do you find out of the companions anyone like who
[28:49]did not violate the commands of the Prophet peace be upon him
[28:54]did not doubt the commands of the Prophet not once not a
[28:58]single time Ali was a scholar during the days of the prophet
[29:02]he was a scholar but he never answered anybody's questions when the
[29:08]prophet was there he could have he could have answered the questions
[29:11]in the same way that the prophet did but he did not
[29:17]he stayed silent out of respect for so when you love God
[29:24]you will feel God's love when you follow the commands of God
[29:31]brothers and sisters not picking and choosing many people they pick and
[29:35]choose and the Quran speaks of those who would pick and choose
[29:38]who are the nation of people that would pick and choose the
[29:43]ones that came before the B is what was convenient they picked
[29:48]for themselves what wasn't convenient leave it for the next Generation even
[29:52]if it was not part of their faith they would they would
[29:56]find another group of people and say we want that to be
[29:58]part of our our faith and so they would adopt it as
[30:02]part of their faith and they would make up laws for themselves
[30:04]and the Arabs learned this practice as well they started to make
[30:10]up laws fors and attribute them to Allah subhanahu wa taala a
[30:25]sign of their belief God tells the prophet if you want to
[30:32]test their belief let them come to you in judgment after that
[30:37]whatever you say to them they find no difficulty in themselves to
[30:50]accept your judgments to accept your rule and they are fully submissive
[30:56]in themselves not not only do they not say oh but what
[31:01]if if this if that even inside they have none of that
[31:06]so what becomes the effect of God's love this is special Allah
[31:13]says we are truly lucky and fortunate if we fall into the
[31:21]category of people that that he loves I'll present to you one
[31:24]Hadith and this is a Hadith that many of us know from
[31:29]he says the following he says that and I'll I'll just say
[31:34]it in English he says that no servant draws close to me
[31:39]with anything more beloved to me than that which I have made
[31:44]obligatory upon him the way that my servant draws close to me
[31:48]if you ask how do I become closest to God how do
[31:54]I gain proximity how do I gain nearness to him he says
[31:59]no servants becomes close to me with anything more beloved than what
[32:06]is waj the prayers the fasting the zakat the righteousness holding your
[32:11]tongue back not backbiting not hurting not stealing he says if he
[32:19]really wants to be beloved and gain proximity to me let him
[32:22]do that which is obligatory and then he draws closer to me
[32:27]with what with the the voluntary acts after each prayer the voluntary
[32:35]acts of s all of these you draw closer and closer to
[32:42]him until I love him I begin to love him more and
[32:50]more intensely see our love can decrease or it can intensify the
[32:55]Quran says those who believe their most intense love is reserved for
[33:04]Allah they love their spouses they love their children they love what
[33:08]Allah has given them but their most special intense love is reserved
[33:11]for him he says he draws closer to me and I begin
[33:18]to love him and when I love him what is the effect
[33:24]of God's love he says when I love him I become the
[33:28]hearing by which he hears the sight by which he sees the
[33:34]tongue by which he speaks and the Hand by which he strikes
[33:38]Allah says the more I love a servant I will become his
[33:44]eyes I will become his ears I will become his tongue I
[33:47]will become his hand these are superpowers you know growing up we
[33:52]would watch cartoons like Superman and and things like that and you
[33:55]say oh they they have superpowers they can do extraordinary things think
[33:59]of this superpower that Allah becomes your vision and he becomes your
[34:03]hearing and he becomes your tongue you begin to speak only that
[34:07]which pleases God you begin to look at only that which pleases
[34:09]God you begin to hear only that which pleases God you begin
[34:14]to do only that which pleases God he says the closer he
[34:17]becomes to me the more I love him and this is something
[34:20]which can be afforded by all is not just uh something reserved
[34:25]for a certain class of believers Every Act that we have whether
[34:31]obligatory or voluntary are accessible to all in return what does he
[34:40]want what what kind of love and affection does God want he
[34:44]wants us to love him yes he wants us to love the
[34:49]prophet but more than that and this is something specific to our
[34:53]Prophet Muhammad sallahu alai Al wasam I want you to love the
[35:08]closest of kin so love is part of our faith it's part
[35:11]of our school of thought our religion is not just one that

[36:46]I will be there with you I will be there with you
[36:48]at that time number one number two I will be with you
[36:56]upon the that very narrow path above the Hellfire that all of
[37:01]us must walk and for some people it's like a what do
[37:03]they call it the Rope the suspended rope that goes from one
[37:07]building to another tight rope one building to another you see how
[37:12]they have to balance and sometimes they fall off for some people
[37:14]it will be a beautiful path he says I will be there
[37:18]holding your hand you don't have to worry about it this is
[37:19]number two and number three I will be there at the pond
[37:26]to quench your your thirst will take the water he will give
