[0:05][Music] in our last lesson we began with the tafsir of the
[0:56]verse of light which basically starts off with allahu nuru-samawati allah is
[1:04]the light of the skies and the earth this verse is found
[1:12]as we said in the beautiful chapter called surat nur the chapter
[1:18]of light which is a chapter that revolves around what around chastity
[1:22]in abstinence from unlawful deeds pertaining to carnal desire we said that
[1:31]when one reads this verse and finds it in the chapter of
[1:40]light suratul he might find the presence of this verse in that
[1:46]chapter quite bizarre because the whole chapter or most of the chapter
[1:51]revolves around what around chastity around abstinence from unlawful deeds pertaining to
[1:58]carnal desire such as adultery or fornication so why would allah mention
[2:05]this this this verse which speaks about allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala and about
[2:11]guidance and about al bait as we shall hear why would he
[2:18]place this verse in surah nur however when we ponder for a
[2:26]few minutes we realize that it's not bizarre to see this holy
[2:31]verse in surat nur and the chapter that revolves around chastity and
[2:35]abstinence from unlawful deeds pertaining to core and desire why we said
[2:44]because one of the greatest tools or strongest tools that we could
[2:52]use to combat our unlawful desires is faith believing in allah believing
[3:00]and believing in the hereafter especially in the consequences the punishments and
[3:07]or the rewards of the hereafter we say this because carnal desire
[3:15]is one of the strongest desires present in the human soul it's
[3:22]one of the strongest desires and when someone doesn't believe in allah
[3:29]or or the hereafter he doesn't believe that there is a punishment
[3:36]for say an unlawful look or an unlawful touch so on so
[3:43]forth he will be closer to committing unlawful deeds to committing different
[3:51]forms of indecencies due to his what due to his lack of
[3:58]faith or absence of faith because we said this this desire is
[4:00]quite strong so when he feels the urge to commit in an
[4:05]indecent deed um there won't be anything stopping him from committing that
[4:15]deed if he doesn't do what if he doesn't believe in allah
[4:22]or or the hereafter in better terms yes he might receive an
[4:30]inner call a call stemming from his human nature what we call
[4:36]fitrah telling him not to do that his intellect also might tell
[4:41]him not to commit such a deed but without belief in allah
[4:46]and or and or the hereafter this person will feel quite inclined
[4:57]towards committing the sin and forgetting the inner call the call that's
[5:04]coming from his father his human nature or his intellect but when
[5:09]you have allah wa'ta'ala in your life as in you believe in
[5:14]god and you believe in you read the advice of allah through
[5:18]the holy quran and you read plenty of traditions from that speak
[5:23]about these topics and why one should avoid a sinful look or
[5:30]a sinful touch so on so forth and when one has belief
[5:37]in the consequences of the hereafter he knows that yes at the
[5:40]moment he might be enjoying that specific act but in the hereafter
[5:47]he will be punished greatly for it this will do what this
[5:49]will help him control his desire it will help him avoid practicing
[5:55]his unlawful desire again we repeat we're not against practicing desire in
[6:01]a lawful manner we're against what practicing it in unlawful manners so
[6:07]when we realize this we realize that there is no bizarreness it
[6:14]is not bizarre to see the verse of light allah exerted all
[6:38]of their effort to create an atmosphere of chastity amongst the muslim
[6:44]community and amongst the world in general for example when we come
[6:50]to rasulullah this was not mentioned last week but i'll mention it
[6:56]now when we come to rasulullah the master of the first member
[7:01]of we see that one of his greatest accomplishments was what was
[7:07]simplifying marriage rasulallah was sent in an era in which fornication and
[7:14]or adultery was why did he spread first of all he forbade
[7:23]such actions he forbade the actions that lead to fornication and adultery
[7:27]secondly he insisted on his companions and the muslims to get married
[7:35]he encouraged them he greatly encouraged them to get married such that
[7:40]he said marriage is part of my sunnah and he who abstains
[7:46]from marriage is not following my sunnah in fact he says falae
[7:53]semini if someone does not want to follow my sunnah then he
[7:56]is not part of my team so he emphasized on the importance
[8:03]of marriage and getting married last but not least he simplified marriage
[8:06]he made it really easy such that a muslim would enter the
[8:14]mosque as he's single and would exit the mosque as he's married
[8:19]without expecting to get married it's not that he would have an
[8:25]appointment with rasulallah i will meet you today at 8 00 pm
[8:31]in the medan mosque and i want to get married and i
[8:32]want you to perform the seerah the contract no the muslim would
[8:37]enter the mosque to pray for example and rasulallah would marry that
[8:44]single muslim man to a muslim lady so he would come into
[8:48]the mosque as he's single and would come out as he is
[8:51]married the prophet simplified it to an extreme this was one of
[8:59]his greatest accomplishments what's quite sad is that today our societies or
[9:06]a bunch of our societies have complicated marriage and that's a very
[9:13]um it's a very sad aspect about our era very sad in
[9:20]a very dangerous aspect if you think about it why because our
[9:23]era is the era of temptations we're surrounded by temptations surrounded by
[9:30]things images or videos or texts that what that call us towards
[9:39]indecency whether we're at school or at our workplace or at home
[9:46]we're surrounded by temptations there are movements that are working day and
[9:52]night to pull humanity towards what towards indecency towards unlawful deeds and
[10:00]so we need to go back to the teachings of rasulallah in
[10:06]order to combat these temptations and these movements once ahem reappears will
[10:18]spread an atmosphere of chastity not in arabia not in the middle
[10:25]east rather around the globe he will overwhelm the world with what
[10:30]with chastity how well number one he will put an end to
[10:39]all of those movements and or websites and or accounts and or
[10:47]applications that are what's spreading indecency secondly he will do what his
[10:53]grandfather did he will be he will revive the teachings of rasulallah
[11:00]which means he will simplify marriage just as his grandfather rasulullah simplified
[11:06]marriage so if we understand these points we'll realize that it's not
[11:15]bizarre when we read surah the verse of light the verse of
[11:21]light in surah nur which speaks about chastity and abstinence from indecencies
[11:27]pertaining to carnal desire then we shed light on the first segment
[11:33]of this holy verse which was allah is the light of the
[11:40]skies and the earth and we send that there are multiple beings
[11:47]that are called light in the quran or the narrations of number
[11:53]one the supreme being the creator allah calls himself light he says
[12:00]allah is the light of the skies and the earth number two
[12:07]calls them lights in azir al-jamirah the ziyada we read when we're
[12:15]visiting all of the imams at once calls itself light it also
[12:22]calls islam light so there are multiple beings that are called light
[12:26]one of them is allah and the rest are creations of god
[12:30]here we said what we said we need to make a distinction
[12:35]we need to differentiate between the word light which is used to
[12:40]refer to god and the word light which is used to refer
[12:42]to a creation of god yes the same word is being used
[12:47]but the meaning will be different the meaning will be different at
[12:53]least from certain perspectives finally we presented multiple interpretations concerning this holy
[13:04]segment allah and we concluded the lesson with the narration by imam
[13:09]which said when allah says he is saying allah allah is what
[13:17]the guide of the inhabitants of the skies and the guide of
[13:25]the inhabitants of the earth allah is the guide of the inhabitants
[13:30]of the skies and the guide of the inhabitants of the earth
[13:37]so here what is telling us is that the word noor or
[13:47]let's say the name when allah says he is nur he is
[13:53]referring to what to his guidance he is the source of guidance
[13:56]now he says allah that there are two words that are omitted
[14:11]in this verse it's as if he's saying allah is present in
[14:21]the verse but it's what it's hidden it's omitted so it's implicitly
[14:30]there but it's not read it's not pronounced and it's not written
[14:33]in the quran make sense here you might ask a question can
[14:39]we do that i mean when we read a quranic verse or
[14:45]a narration or any arabic text is it possible to have specific
[14:53]hidden words within specific statements such that the word will be there
[14:59]but we will not say it or write it is this possible
[15:04]in the arabic language yes it is and in other languages it's
[15:09]also possible you might see it in other languages as well but
[15:13]you definitely see it in arabic here the question will be how
[15:17]will i know that the word is there if we don't write
[15:18]it and we don't say it you'll know from the context from
[15:24]the context you'll know that this hidden word is there i'll give
[15:29]you an example to clarify let us go to surat yusuf all
[15:34]right surat yusuf surat and we're going to go to the part
[15:48]of the story in which the elder son of yaakov addresses his
[15:58]brothers when they're about to return from egypt to palestine and what
[16:03]happens yusuf ali is he performs a particular deed to keep benjamin
[16:11]with him beniyamin who was his brother from his mother and father
[16:17]so when they realize that they can't bring back benjamin to yahuwah
[16:23]what happens the elder brother tells his brothers what to say i
[16:31]won't take too long with this let me just go to the
[16:37]part that we want to analyze in verse 82 of surat yusuf
[16:40]he tells them let me give you a literal translation of what's
[16:50]being said here they tell him he says sorry he tells them
[16:56]tell your father o father ask the village in which we were
[17:06]ask the village in which we were meaning ask them about what
[17:13]happened to us question when he says ask the village what does
[17:21]he mean is jacob supposed to ask the doors of the village
[17:25]or the houses meaning the walls or the ground no he's supposed
[17:33]to speak to people right so when it says if i understand
[17:37]arabic i will know that the word is inside this verse it's
[17:43]part of it it's part of its meaning but it's what it's
[17:48]omitted it's hidden you can understand that the word is there if
[17:51]you have basic arabic um knowledge basic knowledge regarding arabic grammar arabic
[18:02]eloquence etc so wes al-qariyah means what was asked the people of
[18:09]the village make sense so when imam salam says when allah says
[18:15]allah the word ahem exists within the verse it's part of the
[18:30]verse meaning part of its meaning but it's omitted it's hidden so
[18:34]it's as if allah is we have a question here by brother
[18:48]muhammad saying sheikh speaking of light i have seen narrations in which
[18:55]it says from the light of allah i was wondering if you
[18:59]could give an explanation of what this actually means and what the
[19:03]light of allah is subhanallah okay yes muhammad he is the creator
[19:16]of it he is the creator of albert now when the tradition
[19:23]says for example that they were created from the light of allah
[19:30]the tradition is telling us one of the following meanings one of
[19:39]the following either it means that allah is the light and he's
[19:44]the one who created adam when we say allah is the light
[19:48]we mean what he is the guide he is the guide he
[19:52]is not physical light like the light in my room right now
[19:55]or the light at your house he's not physical subhana wata there's
[19:58]nothing in existence like him so he is nude meaning what hadi
[20:04]he's the guide he's the guider so he created them from his
[20:10]light either means that allah the one who is nur created or
[20:16]what is meant is that he created them and made them lights
[20:21]meaning he made them what guides they're also guides right the guides
[20:26]appointed by god so their lights in that in that sense sister
[20:42]zainab you have a question can you please repeat the translation with
[20:44]and without the additional word please what is meant here is that
[21:03]allah is the guide of the inhabitants of the skies and the
[21:07]inhabitants of the earth hence we said that when allah says in
[21:26]inhabitants make sense all right this holy tradition from imam and other
[21:54]interpretations that we presented last week that you can find in the
[21:59]tafsir remind us of uh the traditions that speak about the lights
[22:06]of we have several traditions that speak about their lights and how
[22:11]they were created and what happened after they were created amongst those
[22:16]traditions is the one we will share with you tonight which is
[22:19]a tradition you can find in the book now the author of
[22:35]that book cites another book called the misbaha anwar muslin the tradition
[22:43]is a bit long so i'm not going to mention it mention
[22:46]all of it i will mention part of the tradition uh the
[22:50]part that speaks about the lights of let me send you the
[23:04]first part of the tradition so it says the prophet's uncle addressed
[23:17]the prophet salallahu what happened when allah remember what did we say
[24:02]last week at that phase no one was existing other than allah
[24:07]it was only god and allah wanted to create an albeit before
[24:12]creating anything else he says when allah wanted to create us allah
[24:18]said a word and from that word he created what light so
[24:29]then he said another word and from the second word he created
[24:35]what a soul realize before we continue when the prophet says allah
[24:40]said a word what is meant here is that allah willed to
[24:44]create light and allah will to create a soul it doesn't mean
[24:51]that allah actually created a word for example when the quran tells
[24:59]you if allah wants something to happen he says what kun fayakum
[25:03]be and it is allah doesn't really say kun he doesn't say
[25:12]it what is meant by kun fayakun and it is is that
[25:16]as soon as he wills for something to happen it happens case
[25:21]closed he doesn't even think about it with allah there's no thinking
[25:25]i know that might sound a bit weird but remember we are
[25:30]inferior to god we're his creations we think allah doesn't think he
[25:36]doesn't need to think subhana wata he knows everything everything you can
[25:40]imagine in everything you can imagine he knows it now when he
[25:45]wills for something to happen he doesn't even have to say kun
[25:48]he doesn't have to create the word kon for that thing to
[25:53]happen as soon as he wants it to happen it happens but
[25:59]allah uses these expressions telling us that i say to kind of
[26:08]make us understand his power and that when he wants something to
[26:22]happen it happens instantaneously so allah created what the prophet saws he
[26:26]created light and he created a soul he says [Music] and he
[26:37]mixed those two together the soul and the light and so he
[26:43]created me and he created and hussain peace be upon them so
[26:54]they were what the first creations the prophet says we used to
[27:05]do tasbih we used to say subhanallah when no one was doing
[27:10]tasbih why isn't anyone doing this because no one exists other than
[27:15]that so they were the first to do tasbih you remember last
[27:21]year we mentioned the meaning of tasbih last year we mentioned the
[27:27]meaning of of the short word we say in in salat or
[27:33]after salat which in case you've forgotten i'll remind you the meaning
[27:39]of subhanallah is what allah is exalted or you can say exalted
[27:43]is allah what does that mean you're basically negating all imperfections from
[27:56]allah you're saying allah doesn't hold any form of imperfection so allah
[28:03]is not a human not a body not weak he's not an
[28:08]animal not an insect not unjust not ignorant not stingy so on
[28:15]so forth you have an endless list of what of negative attributes
[28:21]an endless list of imperfections that short word subhanallah when you say
[28:28]subhanallah all of those meanings are contained in that word subhanallah so
[28:39]you're indirectly saying or implicitly saying allah is not a human allah
[28:46]is not stingy allah is not unjust allah is not weak allah
[28:49]is not ignorant so on so forth the prophet says we were
[28:56]doing tasbih when there was not no tasbih there was no test
[29:00]people were not doing testimony because no one was there and we
[29:09]were glorifying allah one of the meanings of is mentioning purity because
[29:17]the word quotes means purity so we were mentioning how pure allah
[29:24]is how pure he is or you can say we were glorifying
[29:33]him when no one was doing takadus the prophet says when allah
[29:41]wanted to start creating the rest of the creations so he wanted
[29:47]to create what the the skies the earth the throne etc what
[29:52]happened he says fatah he expanded my light so he's using the
[30:00]prophet's light part of the prophet's light to create other creations he
[30:03]expanded my light and he created the throne from my light the
[30:13]light of muhammad so the throne the prophet says the throne was
[30:19]created from my light it came from my light and my light
[30:28]is from allah's light here allah's light means what either he's talking
[30:34]about allah's essence subhana he's talking about that light which allah created
[30:39]and then mixed with the soul he says however my light is
[30:51]greater than the throne you see one might think that okay if
[30:53]the throne was created through the light of rasulullah or using part
[30:59]of his life then the throne and rasulullah are equal the prophet
[31:04]says no i'm greater than the throne the throne is what based
[31:09]on this tradition is a product of rasulallah and from his light
[31:26]he created the angels he says the angels came from the light
[31:40]of my brother haley and the light of ali came from allah's
[31:47]light we've already explained this segment so i won't repeat is greater
[31:55]he's better than the angels again he's notifying us don't think that
[32:01]the angels are like adi no hadi is their master he's superior
[32:12]then he expanded the light of my daughter fatima and from that
[32:18]light he created the skies and the earth what we call the
[32:26]universe fast he says the skies and the earth came from the
[32:36]light of my daughter fatima and the light of my daughter fatima
[32:43]came from allah's light let me send you the third portion of
[32:51]the or the second portion of the hadith daughter fatima is greater
[33:11]is better is greater than what than the skies and the earth
[33:26]the light of hassan and from his light he created the sun
[33:33]in the moon so the sun and the moon came from the
[33:38]light of my son hassan and the light of my son hassan
[33:45]came from allah's light hassan of but hasan is better or greater
[33:53]than the sun and the moon who's left the light of my
[34:11]son hussein and from his light he created heaven and heaven we're
[34:20]not talking about the skies we're talking about the abode of peace
[34:24]the abode that the believers will enter on the day of judgment
[34:27]that was created from abu habs these beautiful women in heaven who
[34:39]have unbelievable beauty such that the tradition says if one of the
[34:45]horiyat showed part of her hair to the people of the earth
[34:50]the people of the earth would die these were created from whose
[34:55]light was came from the light of my son hussein and the
[35:09]light of my son hussain came from the light of allah is
[35:20]better or greater than heaven and then the prophet says so now
[35:28]we've realized that what that the universe and other creations in existence
[35:37]like heaven the throne all of those stemmed from the lights of
[35:44]who it's allah with allah's permission of course with allah's permission you
[35:50]know here if a wahabi hears me or not he hears me
[35:53]he might say this is sheikh this is the core of polytheism
[35:58]you've made them creators know hold on we did not make them
[36:04]creators the hadith isn't saying they created these creations it's saying allah
[36:11]subhanahu wa created the universe the throne the horde heaven etc using
[36:17]the lights of salah were causes of these beings these beings were
[36:29]effects stemming from the lights of just as you are a cause
[36:34]of who of your own parents they caused your existence with allah's
[36:38]permission correct they caused your existence in this world they brought you
[36:45]to this world with allah's permission my parents brought me into this
[36:51]world with allah's permission so they're what causes but the cause this
[36:56]causes you allah the creator is who allah the tradition continues this
[37:13]is what we can this is the passage we find in bihar
[37:17]anwar but in other sources such as the statement is a bit
[37:25]different he says so what's the prophet saying you might ask what
[37:37]we understand is the following allah wanted darkness to overwhelm the world
[37:46]why because he wanted to prove a point he wanted to manifest
[37:51]a particular reality so allah commanded the clouds of darkness to come
[37:59]to pass by so that darkness can what overwhelm the world he
[38:06]says and so the skies became dark and the angels were overwhelmed
[38:14]with darkness so the world of angels was overwhelmed with darkness this
[38:25]is where the angels complained to allah they began shouting and screaming
[38:31]as they were doing takdis and tasbih as they were mentioning mentioning
[38:44]his majesty and how he's exalted mentioning his purity they said our
[39:00]god and our master ever since you created us and you've made
[39:09]these shadows they call them meaning shadows you've made these shadows known
[39:15]to us we have never seen any hardship we're telling allah ever
[39:22]since you created us and you guided us they told them we
[39:41]asked you for the sake of these shadows meaning i don't bite
[39:43]salam remove this darkness push this darkness away from us the prophet
[39:54]says let me send you the other part of the tradition before
[40:01]we continue at that point allah removed parts of the light of
[40:32]fatima he removed parts of the light of fatima islam the prophet
[40:37]calls those parts canadian which literally means lamps so small samples let's
[40:44]say of fatima's light salawatu were taken from the light of fatimatazara
[40:53]and were placed where in the midst of the throne [Music] he
[41:00]says at that point the universe the skies and the earth began
[41:08]shining with light due to whose light before we continue one might
[41:15]ask what's allah trying to say what's allah trying to prove is
[41:27]what is the source of light with god's permission of course which
[41:34]means she is the source of guidance just as she is responsible
[41:42]for what for removing darkness from the world of the angels she
[41:47]will be responsible of removing darkness meaning misguidance from the world of
[41:54]the humans when you look at fatima zahara's life especially her last
[42:05]days meaning the last few months she lived after rasulullah's merchandise you
[42:12]realize that she had that responsibility a huge load was placed on
[42:21]fatimatazara's shoulders she was responsible of taking a stance which caused her
[42:25]her life why she was responsible of supporting imam ali and showing
[42:35]the nation muslim nation in all generations to come that truth lies
[42:40]with not with the opponents of ali so that the path of
[42:49]truth may remain clear for all muslims and all free thinkers who
[42:57]want to be guided thus one of the strongest proofs that proves
[43:06]our sect is the sect of truth not the other islamic sects
[43:13]is the stance of fatima after rasulallah the stance of fatim in
[43:23]fact some might might consider this to be the strongest proof proving
[43:27]that we are on the right path who was fatimate imam to
[43:35]whom did she pledge allegiance rasulullah says that if a person dies
[43:42]without knowing the amount of his time he will die death of
[43:47]jahiliyah so he'll be misguided we can't say that fatima died without
[43:50]knowing the imam of her time or else we'd be saying that
[43:56]she died at that but how could that be when she is
[44:00]the mistress of the women of the worlds and according to bukhari
[44:03]she is the mistress of the women in heaven which is the
[44:06]same thing right if she's the mistress of the women of in
[44:10]heaven it means she is the mistress of the women of the
[44:13]world so who was your imam to whom did she pledge allegiance
[44:23]there was a person she was not pleased with she died angry
[44:33]at a certain individual that bukhari mentions explicitly but she did not
[44:42]die angry at haley god forbid she was completely pleased with ali
[44:48]are to make that point from what from those days the days
[44:59]of the angels from you know allahu alam how many thousands of
[45:08]years ago he wanted to make that point but is one of
[45:15]the main guides appointed by god subhana just as she removes the
[45:24]darkness that overwhelms the angels she will be responsible of removing the
[45:28]darkness that overwhelms humanity the lady of light because her light caused
[45:48]what the universe shines here the angel said our god and our
[45:56]master to whom does this shining light belong to whom does this
[46:08]light which caused the universe to shine belong allah the literal translation
[46:23]of this segment is this is a light that i've created from
[46:27]the light of my majesty which means allah is the light he's
[46:36]referring to his essence and allah himself created this light light of
[46:45]fatima or it means allah created the light that rasulullah mentioned at
[46:48]the start of this hadith if you remember the light which was
[46:53]mixed with a soul and from that light what happened fatima was
[47:01]created this light belongs to my she's slave fatima the daughter of
[47:12]my beloved and the wife of my guardian and the brother of
[47:20]my prophet she is the wife of the man who will be
[47:28]the father of my proofs the proofs i will appoint on earth
[47:34]amongst my slaves meaning the father of the imams that they complained
[47:52]to allah when they were overwhelmed with god uh with uh darkness
[47:56]and they did testimonies allah tells them what he says my angels
[48:01]i make you witnesses that i shall or i have sorry i
[48:11]have granted the reward of your tasbih and your invocations your tasbih
[48:15]and your takadis to this lady to her shias and to her
[48:22]lovers the fatima her followers and her lovers all of her shias
[48:31]and all of her lovers who will exist up until the day
[48:37]of judgment when abbas heard all of this from rasulullah he stood
[48:49]and he kissed imam ali between his eyes he kissed his nephew
[48:54]imam ali between his eyes and he said until you are allah's
[49:07]supreme proof over those who believe in allah and the last day
[49:16]one question remains before i look at your comments i know some
[49:20]of you sent me messages one question remains and that is why
[49:26]is abbas telling imam ali alayhi salaam you are the supreme proof
[49:28]of god over those who believe in allah in the last day
[49:32]isn't imam ali the supreme proof of god over everyone excluding rasulullah
[49:39]of course isn't he the supreme proof of god over all people
[49:45]whether they are muslim or not muslim whether they are believers or
[49:48]non-believers he is so why does he say you are the supreme
[49:55]proof of god over those who believe in allah in the last
[49:59]day meaning the day of judgment because who benefits from ali's guidance
[50:10]is those who believe those who don't believe in those who don't
[50:17]believe in allah in the last day ali is a proof amongst
[50:23]them but they don't benefit from him meaning they don't benefit from
[50:27]his guidance they might benefit from his existence yes in fact they
[50:33]do they do benefit from his presence but they don't benefit from
[50:37]his guidance because they don't follow it since the believers the real
[50:42]believers actually benefit from the guidance of ali al-abbas mentions them specifically
[50:47]telling the imam you are the supreme proof of god over those
[50:52]who believe in allah and the last day it this is indeed
[51:11]one of the uh one of the most beautiful traditions regarding the
[51:20]creation of the universe in the creation of it our time is
[51:27]up for today we'll conclude in sha allah next week we'll continue
