[0:01][Music] [Music] alhamdulilla Muhammad I begin in Allah's name the beneficent the

[0:42]merciful and Allah subhana T tells us in the Holy Quran inuh

[1:03][Music] Allah is worthy of praise for giving us this life and

[1:11]giving us the opportunity to represent him and in the 25 minutes

[1:14]that I have to present I'd like to stress the importance of

[1:21]Allah's mercy and gifts and how we pay back this gift for

[1:27]Allah T has blessed us he has made the universe subservient to

[1:30]us he is say in the [Music] Quran do you not see

[1:46]that Allah has made the universe is subservient to you whatever is

[1:59]in the sky and the Earth has made it subservient to you

[2:05]he has made these as gifts plural whether you can see it

[2:16]or not and it is very important for us that as human

[2:19]beings that are intelligent that we are cognizant of this enormous gift

[2:24]inim Allah says Allah has made it known that if you are

[2:39]grateful he will give you more and if you are ungrateful he

[2:44]will punish you that's the rule of God we gathering in this

[2:50]conference inallah it's a blessing it's an honor and we have an

[2:56]intent to socialize to meet to come up with new ideas and

[3:01]of course to make good use of our time during the holidays

[3:04]which is more important for us to indulge in a positive lifestyle

[3:07]than to be merry making and partying that may take us away

[3:11]from Allah subhana so what better than to get to such Gatherings

[3:15]but pragmatically speaking besides the fact that we're making good use of

[3:20]our time in the social Arena and coming to these wonderful conferences

[3:24]with which to meet and to learn and to listen to you

[3:29]know Wonderful presentations by Scholars of various kinds you and I have

[3:36]to have the desire to leave this facility these kinds of facilities

[3:40]in a proactive way to say oh Allah what can I learn

[3:45]from these gatherings so that I continue to perpetuate the goodness that

[3:49]you have created me for and the core principle here is that

[3:53]you and I must consider ourselves liable for doing good for Allah

[4:00]subh tala there's a fundamental principle in the Quran which to me

[4:06]resonates the most powerful message Allah says you are the best in

[4:21]the community you promote good you forbid evil and you believe in

[4:23]Allah so when we leave these facilities we have to ask the

[4:27]question what can I do to promote good and forid evil and

[4:32]how can I enhance my belief in Allah and the Quran is

[4:39]replete with examples replete filled with examples with which to follow so

[4:43]that you and I can get closer to Allah it's not a

[4:45]secret many times people ask how do I get closer to Allah

[4:50]it's not a secret the Quran is filled with examples examples of

[4:55]prophets who struggled constantly to show the evidence of why they were

[5:00]created and they came as our role models to teach us how

[5:06]to proactively present a positive lifestyle even at the cost of losing

[5:12]their lives we commemorate the Shah of IM Hussein for the same

[5:17]reason that he went to promote goodness when the prophet said the

[5:24]interesting part of this Hadith is the second part the first is

[5:31]obvious Hussein Hussein from me but the second part is what really

[5:33]resonates and I am from Hussein Hussein what does that mean it

[5:38]means that Imam Hussein Alam promoted so much good that he kept

[5:43]the message of the Prophet alive forever that constant struggle with which

[5:49]to give your children yourself to maintain the pro the positive trajectory

[5:54]of Allah's uh message is what Allah in the Quran is const

[6:00]conly uh invoking for us to reflect and to do constant constantly

[6:08]asking us to do that so within this time I want us

[6:13]to think before we leave these places and please we must demand

[6:17]it let us not be reactionary Muslims in my opinion I do

[6:22]not seeit as reactionary leaders I do not see Imam Ali alisam

[6:32]as a reactionary leader I see him 24x7 proactionary constantly working to

[6:38]improve the environment constantly working to prepare infrastructures to protect the Hereafter

[6:45]constant there was never a moment where they were waiting for a

[6:49]problem so that they could solve it they were always working to

[6:54]prevent problems and should problems come they would attack it to destroy

[6:59]it we as Muslims unfortunately most of us are reactionary Believers we

[7:06]are in paralysis what I call silent majority if you ever study

[7:13]the Dynamics of social science you'll see that the majority is always

[7:17]silent it's the minority that is vocal now this all Society is

[7:25]a ruled as such it's the minority that's vocal and it's the

[7:28]I mean the minority that's vocal and it's the majority that's silent

[7:32]and the majority is waiting to be dictated unfortunately most of the

[7:43]vocal minorities are usually on the wrong side unfortunately and they dictate

[7:47]they dictate the outcome of legislation unfortunately and we become its victims

[7:54]and then when we start to find that legislation hurting us then

[7:58]we start to cry whereas the vocal minority has already placed in

[8:03]position something that is beneficial to them and you and I are

[8:06]paying the price for it because we are tacitly silent whereas in

[8:13]Islam I have never seen my life or that which I learned

[8:16]ever in that moment where I need to be silent what good

[8:21]is it to be silent and to be reactionary when every story

[8:26]in the Quran is proactionary look what Allah says to Yahya IB

[8:30]zakar he say oh take by the law and move don't wait

[8:40]there is a beautiful story that I'm going to place I want

[8:46]us to embed it and sconce it in our hearts honestly and

[8:51]live by that just this one image that drives me every time

[8:58]I start getting lazy I see this image it just absolutely moves

[9:04]me and I you know images are worth thousands of words IM

[9:21]aliam the first battle that he fought after he became the recognized

[9:28]Khalifa after the third Khalifa you find that he confronted AA as

[9:38]you know AA fought him in Basra and she commanded an Army

[9:45]and the meaning of that word this the meaning of this verse

[9:53]inat came to full fruition in the Battle of Jamal which was

[10:01]in BAS and when im Ali Alam was fighting he was very

[10:04]resistant he didn't want to Counterattack aa's Army because they were at

[10:09]the end of the day proclaiming to be Muslim he wanted to

[10:15]bring peace but the enemy started to shower them Imam Ali's army

[10:19]with enormous amount of arrows enormous amount of arrows so Muhammad hanf

[10:26]was the son of IM Ali alisam as you know and he

[10:31]was standing next to IM aliam and Imam gave him the banner

[10:35]gave him the banner the flag and says Muhammad take this flag

[10:40]and go to the front lines go to the front lines as

[10:47]you know Aisha was on a camel leading this battle which is

[10:50]unbelievable in history it's amazing how we can turn a blind eye

[10:56]to something that is profoundly problematic I mean you're talking about bad

[10:59]War the wife of the Prophet on a battlefield on a camel

[11:09]whereas Quran says and remain in your houses but people just tend

[11:14]to just turn a blind eye you know it's okay it's okay

[11:20]it's okay I'd like to say that on Judgment Day to Allah

[11:25]it's okay but anyway IM Alam says to Muhammad says take this

[11:29]Banner and go to the front lines Muhammad hanfia looks at IM

[11:32]Ali Alam and says my father the sky is black with arrows

[11:41]meaning we are being showered with arrows he hesitated for a split

[11:49]moment he Muhammad hanfia says I felt a breeze Pass Me By

[11:56]and I looked and my hand was empty and I saw my

[12:01]father in the front with the banner that image should be ensconced

[12:06]in our hearts IM Ali Alam commanded his son to go he

[12:13]doubted for a second Imam didn't wait to convince him he grabbed

[12:18]it and ran and he said I saw my father on the

[12:22]front line the Khalifa The IM of the time on the front

[12:26]lines what better role model in Islam can you and I ask

[12:30]for the in such examples and yet we're in paralysis mode making

[12:34]excuses about our problems for our children that our children are indulging

[12:37]in drugs today and there's so much sexual indecency within our community

[12:43]The Dating Game and there's so much apathy in religion that our

[12:49]children are not necessarily praying or fasting we're in paralysis we're saying

[13:00]Imam is replying what are you doing saying have you risen and

[13:06]taken the banner to go forward and establish something or you going

[13:09]to wait for me to come so we wait for you to

[13:12]come can you imagine if our prophets and imams function at this

[13:15]level we would have no Religion Today we'd be sitting ducks dead

[13:20]whereas prophets and imams were movers and shakers and they put their

[13:24]lives on the line so what are we doing honestly besides a

[13:31]attending lectures you and I should hold ourselves liable to say Allah

[13:36]you made me responsible on this earth when you created me when

[13:41]Allah we think here is Adam and all the prophets and and

[13:47]the IMs no we are also on a second and a tertiary

[13:55]level we are also but we don't think that way we find

[13:57]our genius that we have it's for our own Empires and for

[14:01]our own businesses which is good by the way there's nothing wrong

[14:04]with that inshallah we should succeed within our own sphere to be

[14:09]very successful businessmen and very successful entrepreneurs so that we make billions

[14:13]of dollars and inshallah as Sayan mentioned that which is due to

[14:19]Allah will come and finance the rest of the projects but do

[14:22]you think it's about money you know often when I do projects

[14:26]the first thing that is in the people's mind brother was the

[14:31]I said let me tell you there are trillions of dollars available

[14:37]not billions trillions I said where are the hearts where are the

[14:40]minds where are the souls where are the bodies you know one

[14:44]thing I admire about Mother Teresa she was a Catholic nun but

[14:51]she was proactive a man that I know say to me he

[14:54]says I offered her a million dollar I gave her a million

[15:00]doll check you know what she said to me she took the

[15:02]check and gave it back to me she says I don't need

[15:05]your money bring me people to help out with the poverty in

[15:07]India I don't need your million you bring me bodies bring me

[15:13]people who will help me I said Bravo for a woman who

[15:15]thinks that way that she wasn't concerned about the money she was

[15:19]concerned about the action on the ground so are we thinking action

[15:26]do we think about saving the Next Generation the introduction to this

[15:30]presentation was about being green ecos sensitive yes spiritually EOS sensitive too

[15:38]sure we need to recycle as I mentioned the verse right he

[15:53]has made the Earth subservient to you he made it subservient walk

[16:03]on it Allah says use it and eat from it take from

[16:10]it Allah says I made it for you take it I made

[16:15]trees with fruits to come down so you can pluck them Allah

[16:17]says take them use it do you not see that God has

[16:24]made the universe subservient to you subservient whether you can see it

[16:28]or not not Allah says see he has given us he has

[16:38]given us much but Allah says little you are grateful I believe

[16:43]true gratefulness is to indulge in a positive way to say oh

[16:50]Allah you gave me a mind I'm an engineer you gave me

[16:57]a mind I'm strong you gave me a heart strong heart I

[17:00]want to do something for you when you and I take a

[17:05]step towards Allah he will open gates for us and he will

[17:08]say come remember me I will remember you but I'm saying this

[17:17]not to patronize any of you I'm being very honest and the

[17:23]Muslim Community is a beautiful Community but we're not moving at the

[17:27]speed we need to move at with regards to our progression in

[17:31]societies particularly in saving our next Generations for example how many infrastructures

[17:40]do we have in America to protect the education of our youth

[17:44]in America as Muslims many times we say we don't need it

[17:48]we I'm living in a very nice neighborhood I pay 20 $30,000

[17:52]a year in taxes I've got the finest school in America my

[17:56]child goes to the best school I don't need it really did

[18:02]you go to that school and see the kind of immorality that

[18:05]takes place in the school because the schools Across America their moral

[18:11]standards have degraded dramatically in the last few decades dramatically I know

[18:15]because I used to run a school district for 3 years firsthand

[18:18]in one of the finest schools in America in rybrook I used

[18:23]to run their entire technology of the entire school right the entire

[18:29]school and you should see boys girls sittings on the LA sitting

[18:32]on the laps of boys you know kissing each other doing all

[18:35]kinds of saying what's this they said oh you can't say a

[18:38]word their fathers will sue us they can do what they want

[18:43]but it's a finest school they go to the best schools but

[18:46]where's the moral grade if we think that we have achieved much

[18:53]by getting a PhD but we lost IM and became atheists and

[18:56]agnostics in my opinion that's a loss that's agression not progression progression

[19:01]is when our IM increases who are the Believers when signs when

[19:22]they remember Allah their hearts palpitate there's a preparation that takes place

[19:28]parents who have in instilled love of Allah love of prophets love

[19:32]of in their souls and has made them ready and [Music] active

[19:39]those who helped IM aliam for example those who helped Imam Hussein

[19:48]on the battles of their hearts were ready Allah remind them reminding

[19:55]is beneficial the one who will listen to you is the one

[19:59]who is conscious of Allah one who is humble on Earth one

[20:04]who is ready to sacrifice and I'm not saying we're not but

[20:08]I don't think we're very prepared structurally if you look around America

[20:12]even in the most densely populated Muslim communities we don't even have

[20:15]high schools yet and high schools are just beginning to pop up

[20:20]if there was 500 Jews in that community that have a university

[20:25]and we're patting each other on the back for having an elementary

[20:28]school when we are tens of thousands we're snails PS whereas our

[20:36]leaders were the finest proactive leaders did we give back to the

[20:40]community did we establish the N Allah gave us we talk about

[20:45]being green what is being green mean be be econscious don't do

[20:48]don't be one who Wast Allah says eat drink but don't overdo

[21:02]it God doesn't like those who overdo it this principle in my

[21:06]opinion is the solution to diets the 100 million billion dollar diet

[21:09]business doesn't work this one works it's the best formula for diet

[21:19]it's the best formula for abstinence it's the best formula for balance

[21:27]maintain the balance don't tip it it's all that's what life is

[21:33]about what about my balance as a Muslim in a proactive way

[21:35]to do something so you and I may be thinking but brother

[21:40]I don't have many talents what can I do I've been thinking

[21:43]but I don't know you know what do I write a poem

[21:47]do I go on Twitter and do something do it because when

[21:53]you continue to do it Allah starts opening the door for you

[21:56]and tells you okay did you see the results here now do

[22:00]this did you see this now do that there's a brother right

[22:02]now putting together a very nice blog site where he's taking all

[22:05]the news out there just like what n chsky does as a

[22:09]Muslim and he is an expert in media and he's collecting it

[22:12]and boiling down very simplified data points as to what the media

[22:20]really is saying we don't have such this is Think Tank idea

[22:23]an idea of being a think tank let me show you what's

[22:29]really percolating in society see it's a positive move it's a oneperson

[22:33]deal but he's already doing it he's sending me blogs he says

[22:35]what do you think what do you think what do you think

[22:38]I said Bravo he doesn't work in media he's working somewhere else

[22:39]he said but brother I have too much free time I need

[22:43]to do something for Allah I told you some of you may

[22:48]have heard there's a brother in California medical doctor emergency room medicine

[22:52]loves emergency medicine he's in charge of the emergency medical center in

[22:56]California in LA every year twice a year he goes to carala

[23:02]carala twice a year when asked why are you going to carala

[23:08]he said I am going to prepare emergency room medicine in Iraq

[23:12]you know Iraq does not have emergency medical procedures there's no ER

[23:17]in the hospitals in Iraq he says people get blown up IED

[23:23]is constant 3:00 in the morning families are coming with bombs you

[23:27]know having blown up in there you need emergency it's a specialization

[23:30]he says Iraq as rich as it is in its oil revenues

[23:35]does not have emergency medicine now you would think that people would

[23:38]get together and figure out emergency medicine but maybe they're inundated with

[23:42]war so much they have no time so here's a brother in

[23:46]California who has the time and the money and he spends his

[23:48]own money and goes all the way down to Iraq and he's

[23:52]been establishing emergency medical procedures and when I asked him why are

[23:55]you doing this besides the philanthropy and the good thing he says

[24:00]I am preparing for IM mam that when he reappears he can

[24:04]use this to his benefit to establish Islam that's proactivity that's the

[24:09]type of the vision the one Imam Ali grabs that you see

[24:14]he's not hesitating he grabs the banner and he runs to the

[24:18]front lines and he's not waiting so I implore us all please

[24:24]let's not wait when you come to these conferences and you listen

[24:28]to every presentation ask what did I learn from this thing and

[24:31]how can I connect it positively so that next year when I

[24:36]come to this conference I have something tangible cohesive that's in momentum

[24:40]doing something for Allah subhana T because we don't know on which

[24:44]land we will die and you and I will be surprised people

[24:49]ask me brother all these projects you're doing look simple not here

[24:53]to I've got a few more minutes left but when we started

[24:56]the camp 25 years ago we took kids when I left my

[25:01]University I cried I said Allah I grew up in New York

[25:02]you moved me from Africa to America to New York you brought

[25:08]me here with intact parents who protected me from sin that I

[25:11]could have been a drug dealer I could have been a drug

[25:14]addict I could have done many Haram things New York City of

[25:15]all the places you protected me then you sent me to the

[25:21]University to get educated so many possible deaths I avoided you protected

[25:26]me you guided me you taught me my God how much can

[25:30]I pay you back I am not a statistic you and I

[25:38]are not a statistic 7.5 billion people you and I are not

[25:42]a probability to be here in this conference tonight or today you

[25:45]and I were chosen Allah has chosen us and he's going to

[25:51]hold you and me liable on Judgment Day I'm just simp speaking

[25:53]from experience that I said oh Allah I want to pay you

[25:58]back even 1% cuz I never pay you back ever if I

[26:02]worship you and I serve you forever I won't even scratch the

[26:05]surface of the mercy you've given me so we took group of

[26:10]Youth who never prayed we said come on we will teach you

[26:12]Islam how preaching to them no let's be Role Models let's be

[26:18]their friends these little children they need Role Models they need to

[26:21]look up to somebody what do they do on weekends they got

[26:24]nothing else to do then at least that time we didn't have

[26:26]the technology we have today today kids have access to the worst

[26:28]things possible in seconds how do we protect them we're in paralysis

[26:34]mode inshah IMI will fix it when he comes Allah is asking

[26:41]you and me what stopped you from fixing it when we took

[26:43]those kids skiing the first year I remember because I'm a skier

[26:47]took them skiing I got letters from youth who I never saw

[26:48]in my life before they said brother I never prayed before I

[26:52]never fasted I had no idea what Islam is I fell in

[26:53]love with Islam and I'm no never going to give up Islam

[26:57]a letter this was a letter from Allah to me a boy

[27:01]wrote it but I knew Allah was talking to me this boy

[27:06]wrote two-page letter I just saw him he's a surgeon today married

[27:08]with you know with two kids surgeon he's still full of Dean

[27:12]maintaining his Salah sending his children to Islamic school I'm saying Subhan

[27:15]Allah this boy didn't even pray before all it took was that

[27:20]one experience on a ski slope he fell in love with Allah

[27:22]he says I'll never give it up we didn't have to go

[27:25]give them chocolates money nothing we just had to resonate Islam it

[27:28]grew that we started doing camps and every time I'd get letters

[27:32]and notes from people brother my life has changed Allah says did

[27:36]you say this you keep doing it up it came to a

[27:37]point post 911 we were not even getting camps they were not

[27:41]giving it to us because we were Muslims it was a calling

[27:42]from Allah Allah says now have your own buy it Camp even

[27:48]isna which is the largest Sunni group in America could not purchase

[27:51]it we went ahead and we purchased it why we're no not

[27:56]big persons we're not thinking about millions of dollars we don't have

[28:01]money Allah says take a step I will help you when God

[28:07]helps you no one can defeat you and if he doesn't help

[28:12]you who else is there to help you Allah says today we

[28:18]have a $10 million camp and we don't owe a dime to

[28:26]anyone okay my time is up so I'm going to conclude that

[28:31]just a simple I'm I'm a very small person in society and

[28:37]I speak with my heart we took a step and we were

[28:39]capable of building a $10 million institution that generates half a million

[28:44]dollars a year in Revenue that goes towards the education of the

[28:49]Next Generation it goes towards orphanages around the world it goes towards

[28:52]so many projects including interest free loans where we're working now to

[28:56]eliminate student loans because to me that's a scam we need to

[29:01]eliminate these things we're sitting with a lot of wealth are we

[29:03]thinking of putting our pools together and saying let us give a

[29:08]little loan to Allah how many of us are willing to give

[29:12]a little loan to Allah subh and say Allah my $1 solved

[29:19]the problem of many of our next Generations do we do those

[29:22]things so I end with this let us be proactive in verse

[29:27]number 78 Allah here I'm just going to take it 30 seconds

[29:59]you and I are witnesses over the people let me translate Allah

[30:03]says strive hard in the way of Allah such a striving that

[30:07]is due to him he has chosen you he has not laid

[30:08]upon you any hardship in religion the faith of your father ibraim

[30:13]he named you Muslims before and in this that the messenger May

[30:16]listen to this part the messenger may be a bearer of witness

[30:23]to you and you may be bearer of witness to the people

[30:26]we are not spectators in Islam we're not in a Coliseum watching

[30:30]the imams and the prophets do Allah's work uh-uh we are in

[30:36]the Coliseum and the only spectator is Allah subhah wa tala the

[30:41]one watching us he says witness to the people therefore keep up

[30:44]prayer pay the poor rate hold fast by Allah he is your

[30:46]guardian how excellent is the guardian and how excellent the helper you

[30:54]and I are in with the prophets and the imams and you

[30:57]and I better be doing their work or else Allah will hold

[31:01]us liable
