If one does not learn religion, he’s an A’rabi (Hillbilly!) - Qazwini
Imam Sadiq (a) said that we should be learned in religion. The one who doesn’t become learned in religion, then he is an a’rabi (i.e. a hillbilly). What does a’rab mean here? They are the Bedouins who live in isolated areas and disconnected from knowledge. Hence, they are not neither cultured nor educated (i.e. they are ignorant). Because of their ignorance, the Holy Quran would highly encourage them to become learned. In fact, the Quran specifically singles out the a’rab: Holy Quran 9:97 الْأَعْرَابُ أَشَدُّ كُفْرًا وَنِفَاقًا وَأَجْدَرُ أَلَّا يَعْلَمُوا حُدُودَ مَا أَنزَلَ اللَّهُ عَلَىٰ رَسُولِهِ ۗ وَاللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ (The dwellers of the desert are very hard in unbelief and hypocrisy, and more disposed not to know the limits of what Allah has revealed to His Apostle; and Allah is Knowing, Wise.) On the outside, they are Muslims, but Islam hasn’t really penetrated their hearts. In today’s society, they are similar to rednecks or hillbillies who typically are not educated, less tolerant of people and may even be racist.#Hawza #Seminary #Alhujjah #islam #shia #Qazwini
