[28:55]السلام عليكم ورحمه الله وبركاته like begin first offing my as commic
[29:07]شمه الزه عليه الصلام forit there few i have before we first
[29:23]here and so i have give you a little of behind the
[29:30]scenes how things work for speakers right a lot of speakers that
[29:39]pretty much have everything the way they want to go they know
[29:42]exactly what they doing when they come to an area toite ma
[29:47]to give lectures whatever they got their own ideas in mind right
[29:51]devel a series whatever 10 night 15 whatever it is over here
[29:55]we have nights come deliver them and and what a lot of
[30:01]speakers do and f for them my preference is that although that
[30:08]that is a nice way to go and again i have lectures
[30:11]prepared for these three nights there is a huge issue i feel
[30:16]when you know myself or maybe other speakers when they use that
[30:19]method i know a few of you like a handful of you
[30:22]and i know ones i do know have serious problems but i
[30:25]can't all those specific issues of the people that i know here
[30:28]but those are listen i don't know the ma i don't know
[30:32]what iss you have what you have what things you like what
[30:35]you what toed in what you're not interested in what you heard
[30:40]before what you heard before that you got a satisfactory resp what
[30:42]you heard before which was out مح محد i us get cri
[30:58]feedb after fin aome so sometimes you know we can make pre
[31:05]judgments and deliver these lectures that's fine i prefer as much as
[31:13]possible you know we start tonight with whatever you know i have
[31:16]planned after tonight is done if you feel comfortable i'm you know
[31:23]i'm pretty open you can come to me let me know if
[31:25]this topic the way that we're going to be approaching it tonight
[31:28]you know it's continuous series for these three nights that together in
[31:32]if it's something interesting great either don't say anything at all i'll
[31:36]just keep continuing or just let me know okay this is interesting
[31:38]can you try to hit it from this angle or answer this
[31:43]question and i'll try my best if maybe look we've heard this
[31:45]topic before you know thank you so much for preparing all this
[31:48]stuff but there are some other questions and other issues that we
[31:50]all have in our mind it would be great if you could
[31:54]try to that and i'll see ins possible yeah i'll see if
[31:57]i can prepare some other topics as without that feedb it becomes
[32:02]very very difficult and i did my diligence i did ask the
[32:05]people debor that i do know the ones that attend this program
[32:10]i did reach out but any single feedback that i get from
[32:12]let say some of the volunteers or some of the people that
[32:16]i know here it's always going to be subjective they might think
[32:18]this is the major problem you know for the people who come
[32:22]here or this is a topic that everybody loves but for those
[32:25]you stud psychology we have something called self-image bias whatever i'm interested
[32:30]in i feel like what everybody else interest in i like history
[32:34]all man can you talk history maybe the only who likes that
[32:41]maybe all that you know fanc metaphysics philosoph and all that can
[32:45]you dr that everybody loves that that person could be the only
[32:47]one interested you know lot of speakers they come deliver topic [موسيقى]
[33:13]get question pretty much every i highly i don't know if is
[33:19]this community almost every i go any q that i jump in
[33:23]you know why is typically these secondary questions come because there's something
[33:33]deeper more entrenched some fundamental issue that you and i might have
[33:37]if we can do a little bit of reflection i know i'm
[33:39]asking a lot already but a little reflection if you can figure
[33:44]out something that you think is essentially a point a topic a
[33:48]subject matter that needs to be addressed feel free you know after
[33:50]we done tonight let me know if comfortable you can comfortable you
[33:57]can any ifed right if we go with the topic no matter
[34:09]how i add it there certain things you don't like obviously one
[34:12]guy didn't like the mic placement so he had to change that
[34:14]right away that's fine but if there certain things that i say
[34:18]style whatever it is and you have critical feedback i'm open to
[34:21]that too right i'm not sc you yell youna you c if
[34:27]i do get i i front you back to hotel and c
[34:32]if you you are with right wait for that but the more
[34:36]there a dialog and kind reflecting and shooting ide back to one
[34:42]another this ان hopefully make more enr exp for of صل على
[34:48]محد و محمد okay so disclaimer done you know when we characterize
[35:03]our society when we think about our other people talk about being
[35:06]in the west they call a modern society we in modern world
[35:12]or sometimes you know we live in the first world what does
[35:15]all that stuff mean what does mean somebody says we in modern
[35:21]world is first world there a few different bucy de have rules
[35:36]rule of law and people generally follow it on the road people
[35:40]might run a red light once in a while they might speed
[35:44]they might shift in and out of lanes without using their turn
[35:46]signals and stuff okay they might break a few laws here and
[35:50]there but generally people are pretty organized cha not people don't care
[36:08]about that if there are lanes people are shifting in and out
[36:11]like a racing that's how people are actually driving how people are
[36:17]dings some people because people because we techn we have technology nobody
[36:36]else does whether it's the military stuff whether it's the stuff that
[36:39]you and i have in our hands that we can use for
[36:40]everything all these things that are coming out because our technology is
[36:44]more advanced other people then we're a modern society okay maybe others
[36:51]say no the reason we're modern is because of amount of wealth
[36:55]generally that people have i'm sure even over here every single social
[37:01]class may be people mid mid lower mid lower class but people
[37:07]are muss vast major people major have a basic living difficult some
[37:26]people have what they need to survive and a little bit more
[37:30]sometimes they can have some luxury stuff that's it that's a modern
[37:33]world i think it's something a bit different i don't think any
[37:38]of those three things actually characterize the modern world a first world
[37:42]it's not about wealth not about technology and definitely not about laws
[37:46]and bureaucracy the first world this modern world is characterized by choice
[37:54]the ability to make choices what i mean by every you and
[38:09]i are bombarded with millions and millions of choices every single day
[38:14]from the minute we wake up we have choices right do i
[38:19]wake up assuming you wake up your alarm do i snooze it
[38:23]do i keep sleep do i wake up and do what i
[38:24]have do i sit my 15 do out i out youve day
[38:35]like we autopilot we don't think about these things but deep down
[38:40]we are making these choices over and over and over again other
[38:44]people other parts of the they don't have that luxury they don't
[38:46]have the ability they just have to do things you and i
[38:50]we have all these choices so another example when weing any grocery
[38:58]store right now some of you might understand this example some of
[39:01]you won depends on how old or how young you are and
[39:05]me giving this example show my age so when i was younger
[39:10]you to a grocery store let say you to whatever like pasta
[39:13]spag sau mar something like that so you go to the and
[39:19]there maybe what two three different brands all the same thing two
[39:26]brands and whater then done it now you go that not one
[39:35]small little area that has like three four different types of like
[39:39]sauce there is now like a whole section dedicated to all these
[39:43]different flavors right it's organic or it's not organic it's fro sauce
[39:47]or regular sauce different companies each company has organic or not organic
[39:52]these different kinds ingredients no ingredients this one farm fresh all these
[39:57]things so you're sitting there if you actually take a look next
[40:00]time you know do this go to the grocery store sit there
[40:04]in front of the sauce and see how much choice you actually
[40:07]have maybe some of you again it's easier to make the choice
[40:13]somebody gave you a list or because of economic issues you're like
[40:15]i just have to pick the cheapest whatever it is but some
[40:17]people whether middle or above that they can sit there fold their
[40:23]arms and take a look and i have all these choices available
[40:26]to me i can pi any things and be that you might
[40:34]a that a good thing no not really the issue is that
[40:42]when we sit there how do we actually know what is the
[40:46]right choice to make you might be thinking whoes pasta not a
[40:50]deal i'm giving you a small sample have all choic in fr
[40:56]you how more rel to using things talk about contor ises now
[41:13]obviously elections just happen few months agb was obviously the talk of
[41:22]the town for everybody was on and allers you debates and arguments
[41:35]right but what down to choice which way do we go which
[41:38]way do we vote how are we going to have xyz impact
[41:41]what what is the that we looking for everybody was there arguing
[41:45]about what choice to make even right now if we're talking about
[41:50]how we supposed to think about these choices some of you may
[41:54]not think it's a big deal but as we go forward you
[41:59]see that you know maybe i've been a b too naive in
[42:01]the way that been approaching things maybe i actually haven been giving
[42:04]it as much thought as i should have even for those of
[42:07]us try to be more spirit more religious more we think that
[42:12]a l of our dec are already made for us right so
[42:16]just do whatever the good religious thing is okay many of you
[42:21]have the choice to come to lecture like this probably other centers
[42:25]that have lectures that they offering to how doose what tells me
[42:39]is choice make is place speaker soil speak i like the way
[42:58]they add things is that the peak of how we making our
[43:01]decisions is deeper there sometimes when it comes to as we mentioning
[43:07]about lecture topics that's bring this full circle i have a decision
[43:11]to make to i'm coming here i have to figure out do
[43:15]i add history over here do i add do i talk about
[43:16]philosophy and spirituality do i talk about like what subject matter do
[43:24]i actually figure out isc for chice for me to why without
[43:29]help without a way where you i can communicate and come to
[43:35]mut decision it's gna be very difficult for me now some of
[43:37]you might be thinking he this is this overthinking like is there
[43:42]that much thinking actually involved in this well for many people maybe
[43:46]this is overthinking maybe they're like you know it's not that complicated
[43:49]we know exactly what to do in every situation i don't think
[43:52]that there right and there is wrong i make the decision ح
[44:00]ح ح ح الله على محمد محمد a lot of us think
[44:33]that we are the ones who making these decisions right some we
[44:37]pride ourselves saying we have free will we have free choice i
[44:39]do this i do that this is my decision my choice i'm
[44:43]doing that we say it as a posi thing maybe some people
[44:49]overestimate their act ability and the decs and choices make let me
[44:55]exp these i just mention before about poli right what was the
[45:02]way that a lot of people maybe not everybody here not everybody
[45:06]in us but a lot of people generally in america how do
[45:12]they in every ele how do they frame ise either you bled
[45:18]you demr you republican the way people and ev have them giveon
[45:33]and you false dy where people set up two choices thinking that
[45:40]this is the only thing available because what are they trying to
[45:43]do it might sound easy might sound good for us i just
[45:47]said a few minutes before that having too many choices right get
[45:52]that decision paralysis know doig out give me two things i i
[45:59]know okay there's one that's better than the other good and bad
[46:02]or better worse or this is good but this is better if
[46:05]you frame it like that it makes it a lot easier for
[46:06]me so how about i cut away all the fat all the
[46:11]extra stuff and just give me the easy yes or no good
[46:15]or bad right or wrong just give me that and then i
[46:19]can make my decision very easily that's how a lot of us
[46:22]have been pre-programmed i don't think exactly how we truly deeply want
[46:25]to make decisions but us ex in other life every other dimension
[46:37]every other part of our culture they always seem to to divide
[46:42]things into two different groups either this one that one you have
[46:46]you don't get any other choice think about when it comes to
[46:50]us our religiosity are grou conservative traditional nothing else you get no
[47:00]other i mean everybody else wants to call this thing moderate but
[47:04]i don't know what that is but typically right even if now
[47:07]we think about other people in the community if i were to
[47:09]give you somebody's name hey do you know so and so you
[47:12]know tell me about them oh yeah they're liberal they're very liberal
[47:15]and progressive oh yeah they're too conservative you know too traditional we
[47:19]just end up putting somebody in either this box or that box
[47:21]that's it right that's religious stuff politics obviously we said that right
[47:29]pr you ide ide that one box the other box is so
[47:37]ingrained in our society that it even comes out in pop culture
[47:42]too in pop culture and every you look they don't give you
[47:45]multiple different options and choices either this one or that one right
[47:49]for those you transformers you play assassin creed only two forces play
[48:00]you're either an assassin or a temp that's it right star wars
[48:05]geeks anybody you're jedi or sith there's no in between although if
[48:08]you really know star wars lord there's gre jedi there's dark jedi
[48:11]there's a whole buch other stuff too but generally if you ask
[48:14]people pick one of the other you're either the good guys or
[48:17]the bad guys you're either a hero or a villain you don't
[48:21]get any other options in between and this conversation relative to we
[48:26]thinking and commemorating عليه lived over and over and over again we
[48:39]been fred the hero and there goodes guys and guys in and
[48:49]that is المؤمين عليه السلام فمه عليه السلام her no way you
[49:39]hero box not hero الزهرا عليه not hero def even now bring
[49:49]modern have to be careful this analy because this analy was done
[49:56]by a filmmaker as well and it was a terrible analy didn't
[49:58]work out really well they try to make this comparison so i'm
[50:04]not using their like it but it's a bit different right now
[50:06]if i ask most of you about our stance regarding syria who
[50:12]are the hero and who are the villains in syria right now
[50:17]is it a civ war is it no it's and terror and
[50:22]all that and they the ones doing x z over there is
[50:24]there some resistance group that we supposed to be supporting happ opinion
[50:34]resistance there you have an opinion of the syrian armed forces you
[50:37]have an opinion of those who are fighting against the syrian government
[50:41]you have an opinion there you know who is the hero who
[50:45]are the heroes and who are the vill and maybe maybe i'm
[50:49]taking a guess generally if i ask most people here i'm sure
[50:51]you probably agree on who are the heroes and vill of that
[50:55]story i'm not applying it on purpose and i think you got
[50:58]we ask grou you think ag us way approach things most of
[51:07]you know very very well that that's not the case the way
[51:10]that we look at heroes and villains is not the way that
[51:12]they look at her and vill maybe for a while post october
[51:18]7 whatever in terms of the palestinians in terms of lebanon mayle
[51:24]for people out of nowhere there coly sy the good guys and
[51:37]are the bad guys and stu back here again and i'm many
[51:42]you have a different opinion maor friends and family not sy i'm
[51:49]as example for us think how we come to those dec how
[51:57]we deci are the guys bad guys and a l of that
[52:00]comes down to famous cl word you before iden you can use
[52:06]different words you can identity you can framework you can say orientation
[52:09]you can say a lot of different things but i view the
[52:13]world in a certain way when i look out the world i
[52:15]have certain things in my mind or in my soul i use
[52:19]that i look out the world helps out help deee all tell
[52:33]i xyz group in the whole issue overseas or not it's going
[52:39]to help me decide if if i do support one of these
[52:41]groups am i vocal about or not to i active i activist
[52:45]or not do i say i'm sit home and say nothing all
[52:50]these things come back to something deep down identity cpl and محد
[53:10]محد there ways we can also give examples of this problem this
[53:16]question talking about all these other ideologies that we faced right either
[53:24]anerican not are american have american musl muslim american you so we
[53:31]get put forced to go into one boxes to i say muslim
[53:36]american or american muslim do i even use the word american like
[53:38]do i do that or not do i say something else like
[53:42]should i use my ethnic background inad say pakistani american lebanese american
[53:46]or lebanese shia muslim like what do i actually do how many
[53:49]adjectives do i need to describe me even need to bother with
[53:52]that we had so many problems pronouns now even way we trying
[53:58]describe ourselves becoming a difficult thing used to be easy back in
[54:02]the day but not anymore now more complicated i'm try fig out
[54:06]who i am and based on i am i can make hopefully
[54:11]ان the right decisions that's what i want to do i know
[54:15]that there is good i know that there is bad but there's
[54:18]a lot of in between i need to also figure those things
[54:20]out to and i need some set of principles to be able
[54:24]to tell me how do i delineate and figure all that stuff
[54:25]out qur mycs are easy to make there nothing complicated about okay
[54:41]think a bit more about contemporary issues and i don't think that's
[54:47]so easy right the way that we interact and have to deal
[54:50]with the i don't know if i should say the letters or
[54:54]not you know the rainbow rangers the alphabet army put that way
[54:57]how do you de with them how we that movement do we
[55:02]watch the do we kill with kindness love all love love love
[55:13]love loveing the fire no you guys are going hell the have
[55:16]deal with everybody the have with choice how do i deal with
[55:23]my own sister with love and kindness and hope and all that
[55:28]good stuff i use the hipp islam i call it or do
[55:32]i you know be a bit harsher what do i do i
[55:34]have to be able to figure out how to make these decisions
[55:37]right so many of us we might say that look i have
[55:43]my decision making process but be honest when all these issues take
[55:46]place whether it's with the again rainbow rangers alphabet army whether it
[55:51]was post r being overturned and people were arguing about what's our
[55:54]stance on this right now chice do we force our ide people
[56:15]ادلا اله اللهد محمد رسول الله صلى الله عليهه وسلم ر الرحم
[56:56]ال ك كالذين نص الله فانساهم انفسهم ائك هم فاسقون س اللههم
[57:12]الله ئك هم الفاسقون [موسيقى] wor those of us making terrible decis
[57:34]need think about why other people we self other people make badc
[57:44]why well maybe are might not forten id how do we figure
[57:58]out solution to we la out a problem how do we actually
[58:04]a solution a lot of times when speakers address a problem give
[58:07]us a problem the solutions they offer come from a few different
[58:10]spots sometimes they jump right back into the history okay here is
[58:16]in عليه السلام fed use ex you guys course they the role
[58:29]mods why would we take example but if like me you might
[58:32]say but they were in a different time a different society a
[58:38]different place you know the examples that i keep hearing i don't
[58:40]know if i can connect with that i don't know it doesn't
[58:44]really make sense to me they obviously didn't struggle like i'm struggling
[58:47]here so the way that they make their decisions is not the
[58:52]way that i make my decisions can i really use them as
[58:54]an example like that maybe not okay some speakers exion come up
[59:05]عليه السلام رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم xy come on guys
[59:33]up in so society i can't relate to them i can't connect
[59:37]with them that doesn't work either okay what about all these stories
[59:40]of the sh right people like you and i who went to
[59:46]the battlefield gave up everything right sacrifice patience victory this whole formula
[59:51]they did that but you know they were over there and their
[59:53]family style a bit different is there any way for ex s
[59:58]i'll give you work for i was and for work day and
[60:05]maybe wrong me i don't know i always ended up connecting with
[60:11]pop culture characters more so than i did with all these historical
[60:14]and kind other worldly individuals so i hear all these nice stories
[60:18]about the and that's great but whenever i would cartoon that resot
[60:30]more than would in these historic books now is that a problem
[60:35]with me i got a lot of problems that's one of them
[60:39]definitely a problem but let's be frank if that's the way that
[60:41]some people will connect okay can we use that as an example
[60:47]and what's interesting is all this talk about identity crisis problem of
[60:50]choice how do i know who i really am how do i
[60:55]make the right decision this same problem is ramp every in pop
[60:58]culture in plenty of movies plenty of cartoons anime everywhere if you
[61:03]watch real stuff that's there yeah sometimes they have just pure action
[61:06]movies and comedy all that i'm saying there's a lot of characters
[61:09]a lot of movies where they are pushing out these ideas and
[61:15]it can help sometimes because the analogies actually work pretty well for
[61:20]us especially us as those who whether you yourselves are those who
[61:23]who emigrated over here or like me you were born and raised
[61:26]here el and all that and now have disc culture and you
[61:34]know what do over here you got one ethnicity you supposed to
[61:37]be a muslim but then you raised around other you know non
[61:40]muslims and you're just confused like like i was like i am
[61:42]somee how i de that i some characters like that strug makes
[61:51]sense so what we from is if any character before give h
[61:58]any these characters we can actually take some ideas from that i
[62:04]know some of you may not like that approach again forg me
[62:06]this is an approach that personally for me i found beneficial for
[62:09]others you may or may not find it beneficial let's see give
[62:13]it a night or two we see again you can give feedback
[62:14]that's fine as well how many of you are actually familiar with
[62:20]the background the le the character of superman nobody rais yeah all
[62:29]to raise hands okay it's not blous right you can do that
[62:33]so if you know something about it i'm going to ask some
[62:35]questions at the beginning of the lecture tomorrow night so just be
[62:40]ready to answer if you don't know then ask for those parents
[62:41]here you can ask your kids if they're into it although a
[62:45]lot of the people that i see prob around my age you
[62:46]probably do know more than your kids do about this but it's
[62:50]a very interes character analys one my favor things to doig into
[62:54]character analys if you ask me to analyze marvel dc characters i
[63:00]can do it right i've tau class in i've tau a mini
[63:02]seminar on a character analysis of thanos whether he's actually good or
[63:05]evil we can't do that here we don't have the time but
[63:08]we're going to focus on superman for tomorrow so whatever you do
[63:11]know of him bring that with you tomorrow night insall and we're
[63:15]going to see how if at all i could completely fail and
[63:17]you laugh in my face which is okay too we're to see
[63:21]if there are these points about identity identity loss identity crisis that
[63:24]we can take from that and out conclusion how there you there
[63:44]sacri and those choices i have choose sacri iose earn sacrifice make
[64:06]choice of what like what do mean what i confused and hopefully
[64:11]would victor ان الله صل محمد وال محمد prop محمد صلى الله
[65:00]عليهه was heed i for my pr my i my my nation
[65:36]ف عل عليه السلام الله said her do not myed do not
[65:48]because happ after you يا ب مح مح are my love is
[66:05]a langage every in the can a mother holds her child and
[66:14]kisses a sof cheek a father work kids from his eyes and
[66:17]a friend foring their friend times love knows no seation such that
[66:30]the soul even pass ination narration say wrapped her head in sorrow
