[21:55]in welcoming foreign [Music] is [Music] for gathering us here today to
[22:55]commemorate such an auspicious occasion known as the event of mubarak and
[23:02]we thank him for all of his bounties and blessings that he
[23:06]provides for us in every moment and in allowing us to put
[23:12]some time aside to remember this event and inshallah what i hope
[23:16]to do in this speech today is to have a type of
[23:18]reflection we will look at the event of through the lens meaning
[23:38]it is in these gatherings that we can find it is in
[23:43]this time for reflection that we can find something to direct the
[23:47]rest of our lives as we go through the fast-paced changes that
[23:50]we face every day through the sensory kind of bombardment that happens
[23:56]with the internet and our businesses and so on and so forth
[23:59]this time that we need to take out to reflect time that
[24:03]we need to take out to develop ourselves time that we need
[24:08]to take out to help the future generations to learn about the
[24:11]events that we hold sacred and what we learn from those events
[24:15]what we take from those events and then what we are able
[24:17]to apply in our lives of those events now in the holy
[24:23]quran as you all know in surat al-imran ayah number 61 allah
[24:30]says in which translates as then whoever argues with you about this
[24:55]about this knowledge that has come to you say come let us
[25:00]call our sons and your sons and our women and your women
[25:06]and ourselves and yourselves then suffocate ministry and invoke the latin of
[25:13]allah among and as you've all heard in the history the narration
[25:24]that surrounds this event talks about how a group of people came
[25:28]to dispute with the holy prophet sallallahu alaikum about the nature of
[25:35]toheid and his prophecy so they had two problems number one they
[25:40]had a problem with the islamic conception of toheid because they were
[25:47]a group of christians and their version of divinity included the trinity
[25:54]included a different version of what godhead should be like whereas islam
[26:00]propagated to we propagate a unlimited god a god that doesn't allow
[26:06]for even the conception of another being at godhead so this was
[26:13]the first thing but the second thing then was his prophecy because
[26:16]as christians they didn't believe that the holy prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam
[26:21]was a real prophet in order to hold on to their beliefs
[26:26]and to not change to the religion of islam they had to
[26:29]also deny the prophecy and we can see very clearly in this
[26:35]ayah that they had come to dispute with the prophet how can
[26:38]we see that in the beginning of the ayah we have famine
[26:43]whoever comes and dispute disputes with you in the arabic language there
[26:50]are a number of pronouns that are used to signify different groups
[26:53]just like we have in english so for example when we say
[26:57]we we mean a group of people that we are amongst when
[27:01]we say they we mean a group of people that we are
[27:03]not amongst right in the arabic language the pronoun stands for you
[27:12]but you in the singular okay so here as you can see
[27:17]allah is addressing the prophet and says those who dispute with you
[27:24]the origin of the problem between the christians of majiran and the
[27:29]holy prophet was to do with his claims the claims that he
[27:35]was making that allah was one and that he was a prophet
[27:41]and in the verses that are before this ayah so leading up
[27:44]to ayah number 61 allah some very important proofs for how allah
[27:54]is one and one of those proofs is the ayah that precedes
[28:00]this ayah by two eyes ayah number 59 is talking about the
[28:06]creation of isa and he says that the likeness of isa is
[28:09]the likeness of ada allah created adam out of clay and then
[28:16]said to him be and he was so as it pertains to
[28:23]godhead the difference between the divine and creation is that creation goes
[28:29]through this limitation where they have to be brought about they're a
[28:33]contingent being that doesn't exist except for when they are given existence
[28:38]and so isa or jesus couldn't be a god because he had
[28:44]to be created anything that is created by definition cannot be a
[28:48]god so this point here and the argument that was brought to
[28:55]you brought against the holy prophets was to do with him it
[29:00]wasn't to do with his ummah the contingent that came from the
[29:07]madram the delegation that came from the juran were not interested in
[29:10]anybody else over there they came to debate with prophet they came
[29:14]to debate with his claims and this is why in the event
[29:21]of when we read that after the the conclusive kind of discussions
[29:25]and proofs that were brought by the holy quran we finally reached
[29:31]this point where there was no point in arguing anymore proofs had
[29:35]been had been brought to such an extent that any reasonable person
[29:38]should have agreed with the proofs that were brought by the holy
[29:43]prophet sallallahu alaikum but when proof was not enough that is when
[29:47]we have this stage the stage of and in that stage the
[29:54]stakes are raised quite significantly why are the stakes raised because it
[30:02]is now time almost to put money where your mouth is now
[30:05]we're going to have a situation where those who have been lying
[30:09]not those that have been sincere in discussion but those that have
[30:14]been lying about the truth they are now to come together and
[30:22]they are to invoke the latin and in doing that the stakes
[30:31]are raised okay now there is a kind of danger that faces
[30:38]you if you are not telling the truth but it's not just
[30:42]that it's a difference when you and i have a dispute and
[30:45]we raise the stakes between us but it's a completely different matter
[30:49]if we bring our children into it a completely different one and
[30:54]we bring our wives into it this has we've moved from having
[30:59]a dispute to now it being something quite serious even if we're
[31:04]to bring adults into it we don't bring children into it and
[31:08]this is why you see in the ayah the first thing he's
[31:11]mentioning is now the tone changes it's not a joke anymore all
[31:24]of us get together and then we're going to supplicate for the
[31:27]mercy of allah to be removed from one of these two parties
[31:31]and in this event the most beautiful thing is that because the
[31:37]argument was with the prophets the allah doesn't involve anybody else because
[31:50]the dispute is not with them the dispute is between the prophet
[31:55]and the contingent so all he brings to the event of is
[32:00]a person who is considered of himself i is somebody who shares
[32:07]in the resala because the debate is with the one who has
[32:13]brought these claims so the holy prophet should have just gone himself
[32:17]if it's just him right the debate is within but he brings
[32:24]imam ali and this is an indication for us that imam ali
[32:27]share shares here in the claims that are made he shares here
[32:32]in the very claim of tawheed and he shares in the very
[32:37]claim of [Music] and he is therefore included in then obviously when
[32:45]it comes to the women the woman that is brought up the
[32:52]family of the prophet is [Music] distinguishing her as the one who
[33:01]mattered from within the family of the prophet sallallahu alaihi and then
[33:06]the name they are both brought to this event as very young
[33:11]children not as young not as older children as very young children
[33:16]to this event and of course this is why you see in
[33:20]the narration of the event that the christians when they see this
[33:23]they decide to back out of the event because it showed that
[33:29]the holy prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam was serious because he brought his
[33:35]own family he brought his own children he brought his own daughter
[33:38]and of course he brought me in and all of that comes
[33:50]out of the pronoun all of this discussion of who is being
[33:53]addressed here if you ask why didn't the prophet bring the other
[33:57]companions even the good ones the good companions why did he not
[34:01]bring them because the christians were not interested in them if the
[34:05]holy prophet had brought them for mubarak it wouldn't have proven anything
[34:09]yeah what they wanted was to raise the stakes what was being
[34:13]shown here is there is a raising of the stakes and of
[34:15]course not from the side of the christians from the side of
[34:19]allah raise the stakes right raise the stakes so this is the
[34:27]first aspect that i wanted to talk about now the second thing
[34:32]in this ayah is the this part of the ayah here where
[34:41]allah says so we will put the distance of allah on those
[34:50]people who are lying now there is a difference between asking allah
[34:56]subhanahu wa for something to occur and making it occur there's a
[35:02]difference between the two okay when you ask somebody to do something
[35:06]you don't make it happen you're asking them to make it right
[35:10]so for example if i say if i ask somebody for a
[35:15]glass of water i'm not making the water come here right but
[35:18]i'm asking somebody else to make it happen but here in this
[35:24]ayah there's a very interesting word that is chosen by allah what
[35:28]allah says is okay supplicate in what way we will supplicate in
[35:42]a way that we will ensure or we will make the those
[35:51]people who are lying and this is interesting here because the dua
[35:56]that would have had to be made at this moment of course
[36:01]with the infallibles of course who whose are obviously accepted but the
[36:04]dua that would have had to be made would have been a
[36:08]dua that must have been answered with with extreme speed in order
[36:15]to make it happen there's no distance between asking for it to
[36:19]happen and it occurring so it had to be a dua that
[36:23]would be very quickly answered and we know what that is in
[36:31]the books of our supplications for this day there is a dua
[36:36]okay but that dua is a dua that you all know because
[36:41]you recite it at another time over here there is a dua
[36:46]that is recited in the month of ramadan it is called if
[36:53]you have seen it i'm sure in your programs or if anybody
[36:57]stays right to the end they've probably done it at least once
[37:00]okay is an extremely powerful law and i want to read the
[37:12]narration that precedes in the manuals of for you to see this
[37:18]its relationship with shah ramadan its relationship with mubarak and why it
[37:25]is the dua of mubarak so you'll see here let me read
[37:29]it for you another dua for the time before fajr which we
[37:33]narrate with our chain to my grandfather to my grandfather abhija so
[37:39]this chain goes back to atusi through his chain and so on
[37:45]so for sorry he gives a chain using this wording from okay
[38:04]so this uh companion he has written the dua down already and
[38:11]he has sent it to the imam asking for its correction okay
[38:16]that shows us that there was definitely a kind of importance given
[38:22]to the correct wording of god yeah if it didn't matter whether
[38:26]a word was slightly off or not then why send it to
[38:30]be corrected right the companion here wanted the exact version he wanted
[38:36]the exact version of the dua so he sent it to him
[38:41]saying yes meaning that here he'll correct it for him at the
[38:58]time before the call to pray to fajr prayer in the month
[39:03]of ramadan okay so now you know why you recite to ayah
[39:05]in the mouth of god because we know that imam al-baqarah needs
[39:08]to recite this to heart before fajr in the month of ramadan
[39:23]so he's narrating from his grandfather imam if people knew the greatness
[39:32]of these requests with allah and the speed of his answer to
[39:35]the one who supplicates with it they would have fought over it
[39:41]even with swords okay so the power of this dua is such
[39:47]that people if they knew about it they would fight over it
[39:51]with swords okay now for us this doesn't make too much sense
[39:54]because we just would walk to the back and pick it up
[39:58]or go to house.org and kind of find it we wouldn't have
[40:01]to hopefully inshallah fight with swords about it but of course in
[40:06]those days when you had a manuscript of a dua it was
[40:10]just available it was in someone's house and they're not just gonna
[40:14]give it to you right so people would have sought this to
[40:19]ah like a quest yeah so that you are even with swords
[40:24]to go out and get it and find it so that they
[40:26]can use it just like you know you seek an item that
[40:28]will be of such use to you that you will go through
[40:31]all lengths to get it okay say for example you're you're building
[40:38]a type of prototype of a certain machine that's going to make
[40:41]you thousands and thousands of pounds right then you need one part
[40:46]and it's not an amazon but there's some guy in i don't
[40:50]know manchester and he's got it but only for pickup right it's
[40:54]a no-brainer you have to go and get it that's how it
[40:59]is right the same thing here the dua is so powerful and
[41:02]how many are there that need to be answered quickly right there
[41:06]are so many hajjaj that we want answered quickly so we would
[41:12]sometimes seek out this kind of dua even with with swords and
[41:16]imam continues saying and god selects for his for his mercy whom
[41:20]he wills so the people that attain that that's that is the
[41:25]topic also said so this is a continuation the fifth imam alaihi
[41:34]islam also said the greatest name of allah is within it because
[41:38]the greatest name of allah is within this dua and of course
[41:43]the theory of the greatest name of allah again is to do
[41:45]with the quickness of the answer to the prayer the greatness of
[41:48]the greatest name of allah ensures a quick response so now the
[41:54]imam gives advice he says so if you supplicate with it then
[41:58]ardently supplicate something came with meaning don't just you know listen to
[42:04]it or say it quickly or something like that if you're going
[42:06]to use this to hard and use it properly yeah pray supplicate
[42:14]ardently as it is amongst the hidden knowledges the art itself is
[42:17]the most human knowledge and keep it secret don't just give it
[42:26]to everybody keep it secret from who keep it secret except for
[42:30]the for from those who are worthy of it the hypocrites the
[42:37]liars and the designers are not worthy of it the imam even
[42:39]specifies you not to share this with others and then he completes
[42:44]what he's saying with this statement which will link it back to
[42:48]what we're talking about it is the dua of mubarak okay so
[42:57]has all of these qualities in terms of the speed of the
[43:04]answer of this to our in terms of the greatest name that's
[43:07]included within this this is what this is what makes it the
[43:10]you are but rather to put ie there the answer to the
[43:30]prayer is so quick that it is as if it happened immediately
[43:36]so this is the this is the challenge here that is presented
[43:40]of course as you know the dua of mubahila was not used
[43:43]on because if it was used we would not have christians from
[43:45]najan right the event of mubarak ended in a kind of agreement
[43:50]where the christians of nadran went back now there are two more
[44:01]things or two more concepts that i want to speak about uh
[44:03]inshallah in the few moments that we have left and they're both
[44:08]to do with the end of the ayah the first is to
[44:10]do with the concept of and the second is to do with
[44:16]what is somebody who is a liar okay so all of these
[44:20]things and all of these points are to help us go into
[44:24]this ayah a little bit more just in terms of reflecting on
[44:28]the holy quran in order to reflect on the quran sometimes we
[44:32]need a bit of material so we take the material and then
[44:37]we take the ayah and then we spend time thinking over the
[44:39]ayah and over the material this is one of the simplest ways
[44:43]to think of the ayat and then if you go back from
[44:46]this ayah and you go back and look at the arguments that
[44:49]are made and think about the arguments and then you can internalize
[44:54]the arguments those can also become your arguments your arguments for why
[44:59]you feel doheed for example is how you would like to construct
[45:03]your personality or what you'd like to construct your personality about so
[45:07]the first thing is to do with with love because latin is
[45:14]one of those issues that confuses many people many times people ask
[45:19]how could the master mean do something like that or the vision
[45:22]of the mean that i have is something that they wouldn't do
[45:26]obviously this ayat really contradicts that vision because it says it will
[45:32]get together all of us and have love but in order to
[45:37]understand we have to understand latin from the quran itself because the
[45:42]word curse doesn't do justice to what is meant by love cursing
[45:46]or for example putting some kind of evil eye or magic on
[45:53]somebody to cause their destruction is not what is meant by allah
[45:56]latin in the holy quran is an existential principle it is something
[46:03]that allah does existentially it is not something that he targets for
[46:07]example people and distances them from the meaning of lan as it
[46:16]pertains to allah is becoming distanced from his mercy okay and of
[46:21]course if you think to yourself without me continuing what kinds of
[46:25]people will be distanced from allah's and what can they do to
[46:32]be distanced from allah's mercy then the concept becomes very clear somebody
[46:36]is an oppressor will they be distanced from allah's mercy yeah not
[46:53]in the case that allah targets each one and curses them right
[46:59]in the sense that existentially their act of oppression will distance them
[47:04]from allah and that distancing allah attributes to himself why does he
[47:12]attribute it to himself because he's the creator of the system anything
[47:16]that occurs within the system is attributable to allah yeah so when
[47:24]we look at the letter of allah as it pertains to allah
[47:30]and how he does he does latin in a very existential way
[47:33]it is a principle that governs the world and at the same
[47:39]time then the love of those people who ask for the loss
[47:45]that is a supplication that goes along with the very way that
[47:51]the world works so the those people who if you pronounce that
[47:59]or suffocate for latin they suffocate from latin in the same movement
[48:03]that occurs for those people now of course then the discussions come
[48:08]as to who who can say lang how much latin should you
[48:11]do who should the land be upon these are all of course
[48:16]secondary discussions we have in our hadith you shouldn't become allah in
[48:20]a if you do latin on somebody who doesn't deserve it it
[48:34]will not be answered it is a supplication you're asking for something
[48:37]upon someone who doesn't deserve it it is not something that will
[48:40]be answered okay so latin even when it is supplicated for it
[48:46]is it is only going to occur for those who deserve it
[48:50]and of course in the holy quran allah distinguishes people who do
[48:54]deserve it so for example one of the one of the groups
[48:59]of people that have had when they say their hearts are covered
[49:10]that's in one reference when they deny that which they know to
[49:16]be from allah they know it's from allah but yet they deny
[49:20]it that is a type of oppression okay that oppression there is
[49:26]a distance from allah that comes from it and we'll see here
[49:30]there is a very close connection between lying and land when a
[49:35]person covers up the truth then they are distanced from that truth
[49:40]that's something that is very obvious and this here you'll see latin
[49:45]is used in this context here especially another reference is when people
[49:51]hide the truth of revelation again here a very clear type of
[49:57]lying when people disbelieve and they die in the state of disbelief
[50:01]this is another incident of course the incident again in another reference
[50:07]in sula in surah al-imran is when people disbelieve after belief while
[50:13]witnessing the truth of the prophets or any prophet that was uh
[50:18]referred to in this verse and so on and so forth people
[50:24]there's latin for false testimony there's land upon iblees there's land upon
[50:29]those people who accuse uh good women of fornication so these are
[50:35]all instances you can see online the instances of lying or many
[50:40]of them are instances of lying and another instance as well is
[50:45]when people annoy allah and prophet so just a quick word on
[50:52]online as well because i know the time is is already almost
[50:56]possible lying here so the last part of the sentence is that
[51:00]you will ask for or supplicate for that or put lang on
[51:03]those people who are not telling the truth okay and lying is
[51:09]considered to be the source of every evil path okay now obviously
[51:17]we have lying in terms of what we say sometimes so that's
[51:20]usually what we refer to as lying but lying is the denial
[51:27]of any truth when a truth comes to you and it is
[51:31]the truth and then you somehow cover up that truth or ignore
[51:34]that truth or push aside that truth that is lying even if
[51:39]you're not lying about it okay when the truth is recognized and
[51:44]covered up that is that is aligned and of course that is
[51:48]very similar to the lexical meaning of kuffar as well kufur or
[51:53]we translate as unbelief but the meaning of kuffar in arabic in
[52:02]arabic language is to cover up so there's a truth that you're
[52:05]covering up that that's what this belief is this belief is not
[52:09]honest disbelief disbelief is a type of lie yeah so as it
[52:17]pertains to lying because it is something that doesn't just apply to
[52:23]the tongue but applies to the whole personality becoming a truthful person
[52:28]is considered to be a path in life to weed out all
[52:35]covering up of truth within the very person is a path that
[52:43]a person can take to get rid of all kind of denial
[52:47]of the truth and denial of the truth sometimes is not to
[52:50]say it's not true but it's sometimes ignoring the truth it's sometimes
[52:55]when you know what's true you know what's the right thing to
[52:59]do but you just ignore it and you don't take that path
[53:03]so the people that do follow the path of truth they are
[53:06]then included among a group a group which is known as the
[53:10]truthful yeah the the people who are true they are true to
[53:18]what they are true to the truth and that is what takes
[53:21]them to the level of the saudi and of course conversely if
[53:27]somebody takes the path of lies takes the path of covering up
[53:32]the truth then they become of the kadhi being those people who
[53:35]are of the lions and i just want to end here with
[53:40]a verse of the holy quran that should hopefully link up this
[53:44]whole discussion where allah says who is more oppressive than somebody who
[53:56]lies about allah okay the event of mubahila is to do with
[54:04]a group of people who lied about allah lied about what they
[54:08]understood of tohit and because they lied about allah they became of
[54:12]a group of oppressors because they are of a group of oppressors
[54:17]existentially they had the law of allah and that manifested in an
[54:25]event in which the holy prophet sallallahu alaihi as well as his
[54:32]family are encouraged to come and supplicate for that existential effect this
[54:36]is the event of mubarak and of course we take from it
[54:40]many many lessons and at the forefront of that as well we
[54:45]also celebrate the um or the kind of merits of as being
[54:55]included in that select group that was part of the delivery of
[55:01]the message of the holy prophet salallahu we pray to allah that
[55:12]he accepts our efforts that inshallah if anybody is sick that he
[55:18]helps them through their sickness anybody is in difficulty that helps them
[55:21]through their difficulty if anybody is in struggling in any way that
[55:26]allah helps them through their struggles and difficulties and he blesses this
[55:31]community and he blesses all of us with happiness and joy and
[55:35]fulfillment and all of the other beautiful things and he unites us
