[0:03][Music] [Music] hey uh [Music] [Applause] [Music] foreign foreign [Music] we all
[2:06]know that the body of the iman the grandson of rasulallah is
[2:13]definitely buried in the land of karbala a few days after he
[2:19]was killed imam zayn al-abidin assad had come together to bury the
[2:26]holy body of the martyrs of the tenth of muharram they buried
[2:28]the bodies of the imam and of the family of the imam
[2:31]and of the companions of the imam salahu by the same time
[2:40]you find that the heads were placed on spears and as was
[2:44]the tradition and the sunnah of benue they would place them on
[2:48]spears and parade them from city to city this of course was
[2:52]a tradition that had begun with yazid's father in making his point
[2:59]of just how dominating he was against any enemy that dared to
[3:04]stand up against him was that not only should that enemy be
[3:07]executed but that you should get their head place it on a
[3:11]spear and go around cities so that people see that head on
[3:15]that spear it is quite disgusting for us to think of the
[3:19]first 50 years of our religion a religion which we pride ourselves
[3:23]on as being a religion where it became normal for people to
[3:27]take heads and place them on spears decapitate them and then show
[3:33]them to men women young old without feeling any guilt whatsoever i
[3:39]did this with ahmad was a companion of rasulullah amongst other battles
[3:54]and yet you found that with ziad son of his father had
[4:00]ordered for amer to be killed when ahmad was killed they took
[4:03]the head and it was the first head in the history of
[4:06]the religion of islam that was placed on a spear and paraded
[4:10]in the streets so if you're a young three-year-old a four-year-old you
[4:14]would be shown this head from a young age this of course
[4:18]is psychologically traumatic on the one hand for a young child to
[4:24]see but on the other it also builds a norm for you
[4:26]a norm where blood becomes normal where seeing heads being paraded becomes
[4:30]normal in turn 10 15 20 years later it's very normal for
[4:37]you then to see heads paraded on the streets of kerabala or
[4:40]the streets of khufa the streets of sham because you yourself have
[4:45]grown up knowing that anyone who's been an enemy of the state

[5:19]the very flesh and blood of his prophet was beheaded in the
[5:25]very streets where his prophet had spread the religion but the reality
[5:28]was that this head was decapitated like the head of other family
[5:33]members as well ali akbar abel abbas allah you would find that
[5:39]they were killed but they were not beheaded when they were killed
[5:42]you never hear that was actually beheaded when he was killed you
[5:47]don't hear that father was beheaded when he was killed you hear
[5:49]that his arms were taken off him and that he had an
[5:52]arrow in his eye but you never hear that he was beheaded
[5:55]um ordered that after all of these had been killed and after
[6:00]the battle of karbala had finished ordered that i want you to
[6:06]go and decapitate their heads so that we place their heads on
[6:10]spears does not matter how young they are or how old they
[6:15]are if it's the head of a six-month-old baby then take that
[6:18]out of the earth and if it's the head of somebody in
[6:23]their 90s because many times we forget when it came to the
[6:29]heads being parade in the streets you normally will hear that the
[6:33]family of imam hussain allah also although dying without having been beheaded
[6:43]had their heads beheaded as a sign and the symbol of power
[6:48]for that state so of the people that many people ask the
[6:51]question about is that okay imam al-hussein body is in karbala but
[6:55]his head is well and that's why you hear many different opinions
[6:58]because the head went from place to place and what sometimes happens
[7:03]is that we don't differentiate between where the head stayed for a
[7:09]day or two or three and where a head was buried forever
[7:14]because you know in the journey from kerbal and coming back all
[7:17]the way to karabella the head stayed at certain places does not
[7:23]mean necessarily that the head was buried at that place because you
[7:27]have what are known as no we don't do we believe that
[7:45]imam al-hussein had rested in halab for a certain time yes we
[7:49]do because all of you have heard the story of the famous
[7:52]monk who was in aleppo that monk who was in aleppo saw
[7:58]the head of imam he came towards the head of the imam
[8:02]he began to even converse with the imam and that's the beauty
[8:04]of the story of the head of imam al-hussein because the head
[8:10]of imam had is maybe when you're trying to prove a point
[8:18]in the face of a different ideology an ideology that says to

[9:15]his body is buried there but our brethren in cairo have also
[9:22]a shrine for the head of imam al-hussein then also you have
[9:29]a shrine for the head of imam al-hussein and palestine also you
[9:36]have a place for the head of muhammad damascus also you have
[9:40]a head a place for the head of somewhere in afghanistan also
[9:44]you have a place for the head of imam and was saying
[9:47]towards quran so you have so many claimants for the head of
[9:53]imam al-hussein anyone who goes on holiday to cairo you will go
[9:58]towards the shrine there is the shrine of say the zainab and
[10:01]the shrine of said the people of egypt are adamant that imam
[10:10]al-hussein's head is in cairo we the people of iraq for example
[10:16]may be adamant that the head of imam was saying is where
[10:18]in karabakh the people in palestine say both of you have got
[10:24]this wrong the head of imam al-hussein is where in many of
[10:27]you would have heard of certain prolific scholars like eben so you
[10:34]have all of these different places as to where imam al-hussein's head
[10:38]lies by the way there's a miracle even within this does anyone
[10:43]discuss or does anyone want yes he'd been mohawk's or grave to
[10:47]be in their city and yet look at the klama imam al-husseins
[10:51]in ours the miracle of the head of imam al-hussein is that

[11:10]you'll see in different parts of arabia different parts of africa there
[11:14]are people who say imam al-hussein is here not just here we
[11:18]want it to be here it's an honor for us that it's
[11:23]here it's a pride and joy for us that it's here but
[11:25]the reality is that we have to investigate the sources because some
[11:29]of these sources may have their own hidden intentions as to why
[11:33]they want the head to be in one place and not to
[11:36]be in the other let us tonight examine where exactly is the
[11:42]burial of the where is his head buried and i'd like to
[11:44]do this in the following stages number one who was in charge
[11:48]of the head of imam and were all the heads treated in

[12:41]are the opinions about the number of hadiths that we have in
[12:43]shiite literature that say he is buried next to his father imam
[12:48]ali alayhi islam in terms of his head whereas his body is
[12:52]in karbala and finally what is the opinion on the head being
[12:57]back with the body in karbala and which conclude with this opinion
[13:02]and what is their reasoning let's examine this and dissect the topic
[13:05]in complete depth who was placed in charge of his head you
[13:10]see you had certain people who were placed in charge of the
[13:15]heads of the family of imam hussain or the heads of the
[13:17]companions of imam hussain they were in charge of the family of
[13:27]imam al-hussein alaihissalam's heads and the heads of who the companions of
[13:32]imam hussain and but who was in charge of the head of
[13:37]the imam there were two one was and the other one was
[13:45]hamid bin muslim they were placed in charge of the head of
[13:50]imam hussain they had a particular role look after this head you
[13:54]bring it into kufa and then we will make a mockery of
[13:58]this head as a symbol of our power many of you know
[14:03]that holy when he took the head he came towards kufa in
[14:06]the evening and so when he came towards kufa in the evening
[14:08]that following day they wanted to parade the head of imam al-hussein
[14:12]during the daytime holy would take the head of imam and hussain
[14:17]look where they placed the head of the imam they literally placed

[14:25]wife would ask what is that that you have placed he said
[14:28]i bought the head of the son of fatima into our house
[14:31]look how normal it became that firstly as a human being you
[14:36]don't just bring people's heads home i think there are even certain
[14:40]mafia bosses who will turn around and say that we normally dispose
[14:43]of these things somewhere in the middle of a forest we don't
[14:46]just bring a head home look what the um world view was
[14:50]that he had brought the head home his wife looking at him
[14:55]saying how could you bring the head of the grandson of rasulullah
[14:59]towards our house and the state then he would go with that
[15:05]head and when he'd go with the head who would he go
[15:07]to he'd go towards ibn ziyad he made a fatal error when
[15:10]he went to ibn ziad what was his fatal error when he
[15:14]went to urban ziad he decided to recite some poetry and in
[15:17]his poetry he said that fill my stirrup with silver and gold
[15:21]for i have bought with me the head of the person who
[15:26]comes from the best father and the best mother yes and the
[15:31]best in them in honor of all those who you are told
[15:35]evan ziad looked at him and he's thinking hold on a minute
[15:39]you bought me this head but what did you just say he
[15:40]said i bought the head of the son of the best father
[15:44]and mother he said but hold on you're just admitting now that
[15:49]his father ali and his mother fatam are the best so yes
[15:51]we admit that but we don't like them they've been said that
[15:55]i'm not gonna fill your stirrup with any gold or silver you're
[15:57]not meant to mention lines like that but for ibn ziyad what
[16:02]was enough for him ibn ziad wanted one thing and that is
[16:04]the head of imam al-hussein next to him as a sign of
[16:08]his power a symbol of his power and he'd sit there poke
[16:12]the eyes of imam al-hussein the teeth of imam al-hussein and then
[16:17]from there they realized that the people of kufa were getting in
[16:21]some sort of uproar how could you have the son of fatima
[16:23]his head being placed over here so some of them begun to
[16:29]cause trouble yes he'd also wanted to parade the head as soon
[16:32]as he could so the head left from there when the head
[16:35]left from there it had 26 stops on the way towards shan
[16:39]it was on a spear and it would stop at different places
[16:43]and that's why sometimes when you hear for example that the head
[16:47]of imam al-hussein was in halab was one of the stops we
[16:50]cannot deny that one of the stops where the head was was
[16:54]in halab does not mean that his head is buried in halab
[16:58]one of the stops was does that mean that his head is
[17:02]buried in raqqa no if they stopped they would place the head
[17:04]there they would leave it there until they would move the next
[17:09]day of course in some cases they had to run before the
[17:10]next day because people realized whose head is that that's the head
[17:14]of the grandson of the prophet and they would pelt them with
[17:16]stones and shimmer and others would say quickly get a move on
[17:20]let us go towards sham as quick as we can eventually they
[17:24]would get to sham from here the question arises the tween or
[17:29]the head of imam al-hussein definitely reaches yazid in chana when it
[17:34]reaches yazid and sham yazid would do two things next to the
[17:38]head one is drink alcohol next to the head of the grandson

[17:48]there the question arose where did that head go if it was
[17:52]there in sham what did yazid do with that head the first
[17:56]opinion is that he has he'd ordered that the head be sent
[18:01]back safely and securely with honor this is the narration of eben
[18:06]saad ibn saad many of you would have heard of his book
[18:08]about the order and the position of the sahaba even that with
[18:15]nobility and honor return the head of the grandson of rasulullah to
[18:22]medina he had a governor in medina his name was amor the
[18:28]son of said they used to call him amr the son of
[18:30]said he said return the head to amr he is the governor
[18:36]of medina am burying him next to his mother father they say
[18:49]the general opinion that the head of imam hussain is next to
[18:54]his mother fatima this opinion is from who from ibn saad ibn
[18:58]saad has a particular leniency to beni a lot of the henchmen
[19:06]of beni he talks about with glory so he obviously is not
[19:08]going to want to make them look bad in any way so
[19:13]what would ibn sa do ibn sad would make sure that yazid
[19:18]would be looked at with honor how do we dispel this myth
[19:22]that imam al-hussein's head is in medina in which way do we
[19:27]dispel it first way we dispel it yes it has no honor
[19:30]or no ability to say please return this head safely to the
[19:33]land of medina nor is yazid interested that you should bury the
[19:39]head next to his since when did you see yazid have any
[19:42]respect for her father for him to have respect for his son
[19:49]the same years himself said there was no news there was no
[20:01]revelation so do we expect that yazid will say please make sure
[20:05]you give him to benihashim and medina let benihash and bury him
[20:11]nicely in general number one yes he wouldn't do it number two

[20:41]be upon him and his family this amerban zahid was originally governor
[20:46]of mecca now governor of medina this person we really expect that
[20:51]this person is going to really feel sorry and take the command
[20:54]and look after the head of imam al-hussein do you know when
[20:58]the family of imam al-hussein returned to medina many of them were
[21:01]crying some were wailing he was like why are they wailing over
[21:04]which issue suddenly i see all these ladies you're wailing today there
[21:09]was a day when we wailed one for one tit for church
[21:14]it happens i now expect that this hammer son of saeed is
[21:16]really going to be the one who's going to look after the
[21:20]head of imam al-assam further than that what is the most obvious
[21:24]contradiction in the whole of this statement what is the most obvious
[21:30]one when you think of the statement bury him next to his
[21:34]mother what's the most obvious contradiction who knows where his mother fatima
[21:38]is buried until today a thousand four hundred years after his mother
[21:45]was killed father i ask you who knows where she's buried we
[21:49]know about everybody else where they're buried everybody who lived alongside rasulallah
[21:54]either jannat or janna or next to the prophet peace be upon
[22:00]his family some went as far as turkey they got killed there
[22:03]some went towards iraq they got killed there some went towards this
[22:07]place and that place except his daughter none of us know where
[22:13]she's buried go to all the sources of literature ask them where
[22:18]is fatham about it she had asked bury me secretly in the
[22:22]middle of the night and i don't want those who have oppressed
[22:26]me to come to my funeral purposely because why because amongst her
[22:32]she please bear with me on this line amongst her and outside
[22:36]of her shia one day will come out a group who will
[22:41]say that fatima just died a normal death if she died a
[22:43]normal death why is she so adamant to be buried secretly it's
[22:45]burying me normally normal died a normal death just bury me normally
[22:49]why do i have to be buried secretly why only a handful
[22:53]number of people because she was making it clear just in case
[22:57]books are written you get confused there's contradictions my grave or the
[23:02]lack of knowledge of my grave will be the symbol of what
[23:05]happened when the prophet died you may hear many hundreds of opinions
[23:09]about what's happened after rasulullah but never forget to tell them where's
[23:13]fatima's grave if it was all smooth after the prophet peace be
[23:19]upon him and his family died i ask you where is the
[23:23]grave of fatima so when we see this first opinion that medina
[23:26]bury him next to his mother who knows where his mother's grave
[23:31]is and believe you me there is a hikmah from allah subhanahu
[23:33]wa on this because for years people would get away with murder
[23:37]with crimes had this not been the case they'd say well you
[23:39]know where all your imams are buried but none of us know
[23:43]where she's buried so the first opinion that the head of imam
[23:47]al-hussein is in medina that's opinion we reject second opinion they say
[23:52]the head of imam and hussain is in sham itself they brought
[23:56]the head of imam hussain to yes he had kept it in
[24:00]why would yazid return anything yes he'd left it in sham the
[24:04]umayyads knew that this was a symbol of their prowess and then
[24:17]you had amongst abdul malik's sons sulaiman the son of abdul malik
[24:20]waleed the son of abdul malik sulaiman the son of malik there
[24:25]is an opinion that he had noticed that there was a box
[24:30]and he didn't know what it was so when he looked he
[24:33]found a set of heads there and he had seen that of
[24:37]these heads one of them was the head of imam hussain and
[24:41]so therefore they decided that they were going to keep those heads
[24:44]over there do we believe that there's a chance that some of
[24:48]the heads were in charm without a doubt we've all been to
[24:53]baba sahir haven't we haven't we gone to the area where the
[24:55]heads were some have the impression that the heads all remain there
[24:59]no the heads were there in sham they kept them there for
[25:04]a certain period but do we believe that these heads remained there
[25:08]in the land of sham we don't believe that on the contrary
[25:12]we don't believe that the umayyads would have kept these heads rather
[25:14]the omegas could have disposed of them as they wanted so that
[25:17]second opinion we reject as well third opinion what is there the
[25:23]third opinion is that he is in palestine someone says why would
[25:29]he be in asgalan one opinion is that when people heard imam
[25:32]al-hussein's head was with yazid the people of palestine remember his father

[26:01]for imam al-hussein in that area where people honor imam hussain because
[26:06]they say that this is definitely where the head was bought that
[26:09]was one opinion a second opinion was no the second opinion was
[26:15]that the fatah meds were involved in having the head in ascalon
[26:21]how the fatimas as you know was an isma'ili shia the ismailis
[26:25]had ruled parts of egypt for a long time and so what
[26:29]you had they had that vast empire when one of the ministers
[26:34]who was an adviser to the father khalifa monta he had seen
[26:43]a dream that the head of imam al-hussein alaihissalam was over there
[26:49]in ascalon and therefore on the basis of that dream he went
[26:54]there and he asked for that area which he had seen to
[26:56]be assumed when they exhumed it they found the head of imam
[27:02]al-hussein in that area so from then they decided the fatimid empire
[27:05]decided that we're going to build a mausoleum in to honor the
[27:12]head of imam al-hussein from there the fatimids therefore one opinion was
[27:17]that they were the ones who established the head of imam al-hussein
[27:21]another opinion however is what that when we go to cairo today
[27:25]the egyptians have a profound love for a little bit salawat allah
[27:30]i've been to cairo on the third of shaban third of saying
[27:38]outside the haram where they say the head of imam al-hussein is
[27:44]on the third of shaban non-shia gather together with candles they light
[27:50]candles the whole area is lit with candles in honor of imam
[27:55]because they say that our biggest blessing is to have imam al-hussein
[28:00]in cairo if you look at the remnants of the fatimid empire
[28:05]in cairo you have on the one hand al-azhar the seminary al-azhar
[28:10]then you have for example sayyid of the descendants of salam and
[28:18]you have imam al-hussein and you have say that i'm saying of
[28:22]the discussion as to how her grave is there we'll come to
[28:25]on another night but imam al-hussein the father there is an opinion
[28:31]that the fatimids had been the ones who had taken the head
[28:36]of imam al-hussein in some opinions they say that when they had
[28:42]seen that the crusaders had come to attack certain parts where the
[28:46]head was placed say for example in damascus or in palestine they
[28:50]said that look they're going to come and attack the holy head
[28:52]so why don't you give us the holy head we will take
[28:57]the holy head and we will place it where we'll place it
[29:00]in the land of cairo and they adamantly believe and this is
[29:06]when we're talking over how many years ago over 800 900 years
[29:11]ago until today around that area there's someone asked hold on how
[29:14]come they have a variety and how comes people hold the daria
[29:17]because there is a difference between the selfie world view and the
[29:21]world view of the non salafi there are certain people who are
[29:25]not shiha they may be labeled sunni but they don't see themselves
[29:29]as salafi meaning they still honor the graves and the shrines of
[29:34]personalities who are the greatest servants of allah subhanahu wa ta'ala if
[29:37]you go to india you go to pakistan you'll see that there
[29:41]are many people whose shrines still bring barakah to the people of
[29:44]that area if you go to iraq you can have on the
[29:46]one side imam al-qaeda on the other side abu hanifa on the
[29:50]other side abdul qadilani or abdullah all of these in one city
[29:57]all of these can be found in baghdad because for many years
[30:00]the muslims had no problem that they would build on top of
[30:06]the grave of someone who had sacrificed for the part of allah
[30:09]the people of egypt you go towards the shrine of imam al-hussein
[30:12]you'll see people holding the shrine of imam al-hussein al-islam saying that
[30:17]this is where the head of the grandson of rasulallah therefore what
[30:24]do we find we find that all of these opinions were given
[30:27]medina damascus you go towards ascalon you go towards egypt we reject
[30:35]the opinions for example when it comes towards egypt or ascalon with
[30:39]all due respect to these other schools and may allah reward them
[30:43]for trying to honor imam al-hussein at the end of the day
[30:49]that's still something meritorious that they tried to honor the grandson of
[30:54]rasulallah better than the way that others had honored him they're honored
[30:57]that he was amongst them but we reject this idea on the
[31:01]basis of a number of points and of them the most important
[31:06]of them is that we have enough traditions that the head of
[31:11]imam al-hussein was seen where there are two opinions and she i
[31:16]thought the first opinion is that imam al-hussein's head is next to
[31:20]the grave of who imam you find this in the traditions and
[31:27]by the way this is very clear in our traditions that imam
[31:30]al-hussein's head is near let's say for example in that land modern
[31:40]day najef or what in the past we would talk of kufa
[31:44]for example they say that is where the head of imam al-hussein
[31:47]is to the extent that there are narrations that our sixth imam
[31:50]tells his companions for example he says to them that there is
[31:57]a big grave in nejaf and there is a small one the
[32:01]big one is the grave of who imam amir al-mu'min is and
[32:06]the small one is the grave where the head of imam al-hussein
[32:10]is now this can be seen in a number of traditions because
[32:14]many people today will go towards karbala but we have traditions that
[32:19]the head of imam al-hussein is a najif and the body of
[32:23]imam al-hussein is in karbala but again many of the ulama do
[32:26]not take this opinion someone says why at the end of the
[32:29]day if it's in our literature why would we not take this
[32:31]opinion surely you would want to take it on the reason they
[32:35]will not take this opinion is because they believe that the true
[32:40]editions concerning negev are related to the fact that imam al-hussein's head
[32:45]as i mentioned earlier rested in that area for a couple of
[32:51]days before it moved on how many of you have been to
[32:53]masjid hannan many of you would have been and those of us
[32:56]who have come with us on ziyarah you've been to masjid hannan
[32:59]measured hanana in kufa is known as because they say that one
[33:08]of the pillars becomes what there is a certain sound that could
[33:11]be heard from the area of one of the pillars on two
[33:17]occasions the first occasion when you had the janazah of imam ali
[33:22]alayhi come past that area imam ali alayhi so he would have
[33:31]to go through where he goes through certain streets in kuwait all
[33:33]of us have been from our hotel in najef we go towards
[33:36]measured kufa they say that the first time there was a feeling
[33:44]where they could feel a sense of even a sound of sadness
[33:49]coming was from where was from the martyrdom of imam ali when
[33:53]was the second time holy on his way towards where on his
[33:59]way towards kufa had placed the head of imam al-hussein and so

[47:04]as soon as she entered her house she said remove the roof

[47:20]the roof from the top of my house and that moment they
[47:23]came and removed the roof and they said to arab why why
[47:28]do you do this her reply is a reply that breaks every
